Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning. This is send seven World News in seven minutes.
I'm Stephen Devin Chenzi. Today is the tenth of September
twenty twenty five. Starting in Asia. Today, Israel has conducted

(00:22):
an air strike on Katar for the first time ever.
Israel said that it targeted members of Hamas who were
meeting to discuss ceasefire negotiations. For more than ten years,
Hamas's political headquarters has been in Katar. Israel has assassinated

(00:43):
many of Hamas's leaders over the last two years in Gaza, Lebanon, Syria,
and Iran. However, this is the first time that Israel
has ever targeted Katar, which has been used as a
place of negotiations. The time of recording this podcast, it
is not clear who has been killed or injured. However,

(01:06):
Al Jazeera has reported that Hamas has said that its
leadership survived the attack, but six people were killed, including
the son of hamas political chief, Khalil al Haya, and
one Katari security staff member. Many countries, including some traditional
allies of Israel, have said that this was a violation

(01:30):
of Qatar's sovereignty. This is the second time that Katari
territory has been fired upon this year after Iran fired
missiles at a US air base in Qatar. In June,
Nepal's Prime Minister K. P. Shama Oli has resigned after
days of violent anti government and anti corruption protests. Nineteen

(01:55):
people are reported to have died in protests on Monday,
which started after a social media ban. Sharma Oli's house
was set on fire yesterday after he announced his resignation.
The houses of some other politicians were also set on
fire yesterday, and demonstrators ignored a curfew. Africa. In Ethiopia,

(02:22):
Prime Minister Abi Ahmed spoke at a ceremony yesterday to
officially open the Ethiopian Grand Renaissance Dam, Africa's biggest hydroelectric dam.
During his speech, Abbi said that Ethiopia will not limit
the water flowing in the Nile to Egypt and Sudan.

(02:44):
Egypt says that the dam violates water treaties and international law.
South African President Cyril Ramapousa has said that his government
is trying to negotiate with the United States to remove
some recent tariffs. Ramaposa said in parliament yesterday that South

(03:04):
Africa should be exporting finished products rather than raw materials.

Speaker 2 (03:10):
And we want to be able, and that's what we
are insisting one that even as we may well want
to export critical minerals, we want them to leave the
shores of South Africa as finished products so that we
beneficiate what we will finally sell to them. So that
is the type of discussion that we are heaving with them.

Speaker 1 (03:35):
Also in South Africa, the US based supermarket Walmart has
said that it will open its first ever shop in
Africa later this year. Walmart has said that the shops
will sell fresh food, household items, clothes, and technology, and
some products will be sourced locally America's. In the United States,

(04:01):
the family of billionaire media businessman Rupert Murdoch has reached
a settlement about the future of their companies after Rupert's death.
Rupert Murdoch is ninety four and a few years ago
he tried to change the terms of his inheritance trust
to give full control of his companies to his son Lochlan,

(04:27):
who has similar conservative views to him. Three of his
other five children disagreed with the plan and took Rupert
and Lochlan to court. Now, the other children have agreed
to a deal in which they are believed to receive
over a billion dollars each. The popular comedy drama series

(04:49):
Succession was based on this fight within the Murdoch family.
In Mexico, at least ten people have died when a
train crashed into a bus. The bus moved onto the
tracks at a level crossing. The bus driver survived and
has been arrested. In Argentina, a local election result has

(05:14):
generally been seen as bad for the government of President
Kaber Milay. In the provincial election in Buenos Aids Province,
where almost forty percent of Argentina's population live, only thirty
four percent of votes were for Milay's Liberty Advances party,

(05:34):
with around forty seven percent of votes for the Perinist
Kishnarist left wing Coalition Europe. In Ukraine, a Russian air
strike has killed at least twenty four people who were
waiting to collect pensions, according to local officials. Interior Minister

(05:57):
Irjor Klimenko said that Russia dropped a guided bomb on
the village of Yarova in Donetsk Region. Photos from the
area show a destroyed postal service vehicle which was apparently
distributing pensions in the Russian occupied area of Donetsk Region.

(06:18):
The Russian installed government said that Ukrainian fire had killed
two civilians on Monday. In Norway, the governing Labor Party
has won the most seats in the parliamentary election. Jonas
Gara Stour will continue as Prime Minister, leading a center
left coalition. In France, President Immanuel Macron has appointed Sebastia

(06:45):
Lecornu as Prime minister. Lecornu is the fifth prime minister
in the last two years. As government's struggle to stay
together in an extremely divided parliament and in the United Kingdom,
an artwork by the street artist Banksy has appeared on

(07:07):
the side of the Royal Courts of Justice in London,
but has immediately been covered up by security guards. The
graffiti shows a judge using his hammer to hit a
protester holding a sign. Analysts have suggested that the art
is criticizing inequality in Britain's justice system or the mass

(07:32):
arrests of pro Palestine protesters. Since the group Palestine Action
was designated as a terrorist organization a few weeks ago,
it is not clear if the mural will be removed.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
