Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning. This is Send seven World News in seven minutes.
I'm Stephen Devin Chenzie. Today is Friday, the twelfth of
September twenty twenty five. Starting in the Americas. Today. In

(00:21):
the United States, a search is continuing for the person
who shot and killed the political commentator Charlie Kirk. Kirk
was a thirty one year old right wing activist, speaker,
and podcaster who often spoke at universities. Yesterday, investigators said

(00:41):
that they had found the rifle used to shoot Kirk
and released photos of a suspect. President Donald Trump has
said that he will award Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom.
During a video statement soon after the announcement of Kirk's
Trump spoke about Kirk as a patriot, said that he

(01:05):
was a martyr for truth, and also criticized the radical
left for spreading hate.

Speaker 2 (01:12):
For years, those on the radical left have compared wonderful
Americans like Charlie to Nazis and the world's worst mass
murderers and criminals. This kind of rhetoric is directly responsible
for the terrorism that we're seeing in our country today,
and it must stop right now. My administration will find

(01:36):
each and every one of those who contributed to this
atrocity and to other political violence, including the organizations that
funded and support it, as well as those who go
after our judges, law enforcement officials, and everyone else who
brings order to our country. From the attack on my

(01:56):
life in Butler, Pennsylvania last year, which killed their husband
and father, to the attacks on ice agents, to the
vicious murder of a healthcare executive in the streets of
New York, to the shooting of House Majority Leader Steve
Scalise and three others. Radical of political violence has hurt
too many innocent people and taken too many lives.

Speaker 1 (02:21):
In Brazil, a majority of Supreme Court judges have found
President Jayir Bolsonaro guilty of attempting a kudta to stop
the transfer of power after he lost the twenty twenty
two presidential election. Out of five Supreme Court judges, three

(02:42):
have voted to convict Bolsnaro, one voted against, and one
has not voted yet. Bolsonaro and seven others could face
decades in prison. Bolsonaro has continued to say that he
will run again for president in twenty twenty six, despite
him being barred from holding public office until twenty thirty

(03:04):
as a result of a case in twenty twenty three
in which he was convicted of spreading misinformation about Brazil's
voting system. Africa, Gharana is accepting West Africans deported from
the United States, President John Mohamma has said. Mahamma said

(03:26):
yesterday that fourteen people had already arrived in Ghana, including
people from Nigeria and Gambia. In Sub Saharan Africa, twenty
million more children have been given school meals over the
last two years, according to the World Food Program a

(03:47):
rise of nearly one third. The WFP report said that
the fast rise shows governments are relying less on foreign
aid and that they recognize the importance of school meals
as a good investment in both children's health and their education.

(04:07):
Libya's coast guard fired at a Norwegian ship, according to
Norway's Foreign Ministry. Norway said that on August the twenty fourth,
the Ocean Viking ship, which helps migrant rescue operations, was
fired at by the Libyan coast Guard, putting lives at risk,

(04:28):
and has told Libyan authorities to take precautions to make
sure it doesn't happen again. Asia and Oceania in Nepal,
the army has deployed in the streets of Katmandu as protests,
riots and violence have continued despite the resignation of Prime

(04:50):
Minister K. P. Sharma Oli earlier this week. Thirty people
are believed to have died in protests since Monday. The
army has said it is in talks with protest groups.
In Indonesia, the death toll from flooding on the island
of Bali has risen to fifteen, with another ten people missing.

(05:15):
In the whole world, it is now more common for
children to be obese than to be underweight. For the
first time. A study by UNSEF found that nine point
two percent of children are underweight and nine point four
percent are obese. The countries with the highest obesity levels

(05:38):
in children are mostly Pacific Island countries like the island
of New where thirty eight percent of children are obese,
the Cook Islands with thirty seven percent obese, and Nauru
and Tonga both with thirty three percent of children obese.
Outside of the Pacific Islands, Chile has the highest childhood obesity,

(06:01):
with twenty seven percent of Chilean children recorded as obese. Europe,
Poland's foreign Minister Radoslav Sikorski has said that Russian drones
entering Poland on Wednesday was not an accident. Speaking on
Polish radio, Sikorski said, quote nineteen violations of our airspace.

(06:27):
Several dozen drones identified, a few shot down, the action
lasting seven hours the whole night, so we cannot say
it was an accident end quote. Germany's Defense Minister Boris
Pistorius said in parliament that the drones were deliberately sent
to enter Poland. UK Defence Minister John Healy said Putin

(06:52):
is testing us.

Speaker 3 (06:53):
Russian's actions are reckless, They're dangerous, They're unprecedented. We see
what Putin is doing yet again. He is testing us
yet again. We will stand firm.

Speaker 1 (07:09):
Sweden yesterday promised another seven point five billion dollars worth
of military aid for Ukraine over the next two years.
And in France, the Notre Dame Cathedral has broken records
for the number of visitors nine months after reopening after

(07:29):
being closed for five years because of a major fire.
It is expected that between twelve and thirteen million people
will visit Notre Dame this year, making it the most
visited monument in France, with almost double the visitors of
the Eiffel Tower. A big thank you to Aishah in France,

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
