Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning. This is Send seven World News in seven minutes.
I'm Stephen Devin Cenzi. Today is Friday, the twenty fourth
of October twenty twenty five. Starting in Africa today, Code

(00:21):
Divois holds a presidential election tomorrow. President Alassan Juatera is
seeking a fourth term in office, which he says is
legitimate because of a new constitution resetting term limits in
twenty sixteen. One of the challengers is Simon Bagbo, who

(00:43):
was the first Lady of Courd Dibois as the wife
of former President Laurent Gobagbo. In Uganda, a crash between
two buses has killed forty six people on a road
close to Campala. Investigators said the crash happened because one
of the buses was trying to overtake other traffic. America's

(01:09):
Argentina has mid term parliamentary elections on Sunday. The Liberta
Avanza party of President Xavier Milay is aiming to take
control of parliament, where at the moment opposition parties have
most seats. Opinion polls are generally showing a close race

(01:31):
between Malay's right wing Liberal party and the main opposition
Kiirshnrist Peranist Party. In Mexico, a bio lab is being
built in order to produce screw worm flies, which cannot reproduce.
Screw worm is a parasite which mostly lives in cows

(01:53):
and has caused the United States to ban imports of
cattle from Mexico in a similar way that has been
done with mosquitoes. The biolab in Mexico will produce screw
worm flies that cannot reproduce. In the United States, more
than half of people believe that President Donald Trump is

(02:17):
using the law to attack his enemies, according to an
opinion poll by Reuters. The poll of four three hundred
people across the US found that fifty five percent of
them thought Trump was targeting his enemies using law enforcement.
During the last month, the Justice Department has brought criminal

(02:40):
charges against three of Trump's enemies, the former director of
the FBI, James Comy, Trump's former national security advisor, John Bolton,
and the current Attorney General of New York, Letitia James,
who successfully won a fraud case against Trump last year.

(03:01):
Also in the United States, Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth
said yesterday that the military had conducted strikes killing five
drug smugglers in the Pacific Ocean. Human rights groups have
accused the US of extra judicial killings in this recent
pattern of attacking suspected drug boats. Colombian President Gustavo Petro

(03:25):
has said that the attacks are murder Asia and Oceania.
Thailand's army said yesterday that about seven hundred foreign people
have crossed from Myanmar into Thailand since the Burmese military
took control of a major scam center a few days ago.

(03:49):
The Thai army said that most of the people were
from India and China, with some others from Pakistan, Indonesia,
Vietnam and other countries. In New Zealand, around one hundred
thousand public sector workers went on strike yesterday, and estimated
sixty thousand teachers and forty thousand nurses joined protests for

(04:14):
more funding for public services Europe. In Ukraine, civilians have
been killed in various drone and missile attacks across the
country over the last few days. On Wednesday, a Russian

One adult was killed in the attack, but the children
were in an underground shelter. Yesterday, two journalists were killed
in the eastern city of Kramatorsk. According to their employer,
Freedom TV. The United States has put sanctions on two
major Russian oil companies. A statement from the Treasury Department

(04:58):
said that these sanctions were a quote result of Russia's
lack of serious commitment to a peace process to end
the war in Ukraine end quote. Earlier this week, President
Trump said that a planned meeting with Russian President Vadimir
Putin has been postponed. We canceled the meeting with President Putin.

Speaker 2 (05:19):
It just it didn't feel right to me. It didn't
feel like we were going to get to the place
we have to get, so I canceled it.

Speaker 1 (05:24):
But we'll do it in the future. According to Russian
state media, Putin called the sanctions unfriendly, but said that
they would not damage Russia's economy. Ukraine has been conducting
a long range air strike campaign against Russia's oil production,
and yesterday Ukrainian officials said that they had hit the

(05:46):
Ryazan oil refinery. In Hungary, Prime Minister Viktor Orban accused
the European Union of wanting to place a puppet government
in Hungary yesterday during a speech to supporters. Urban also
said quote. This is why they want to squeeze Ukraine

(06:08):
into the EU at any price, to bring war into
Europe and to take money to Ukraine. In the United Kingdom,
a government minister has confirmed that one of the first
migrants to be returned to France as part of an
immigration agreement has already come back to the UK again

(06:31):
on a small boat. In July, Prime Minister Sir Kiir
Stamer and French President Emmanuel Macron agreed a deal in
which some people who arrived on small boats from France
to the UK would be deported back to France and
the UK would take the same number of different migrants

(06:52):
in return. Josh McCallister, Junior Children's Minister, told Sky News
that the Iranian man would be returned to France again.

Speaker 2 (07:02):
That this guy came across originally shouldn't have been coming across,
was smuggled across and paid a lot of money to
do so, was then returned to France. Has done the
same again. He has paid again and he will be
returned again. We will make sure that happens.

Speaker 1 (07:18):
And in the Vatican City the heads of the Catholic
Church and the Church of England have prayed together for
the first time since the Church of England broke away
from the Catholic Church In fifteen thirty four, Pope Leo
hosted Britain's King Charles and the two prayed together in
