Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning. This is send seven world news in seven minutes.
I'm Stephen Devinchenzi. Today is Friday, the twenty fifth of
April twenty twenty five. Starting in Europe today. In Ukraine,

(00:22):
Russia used missiles and drones to attack towns and cities
across the country yesterday, resulting in at least thirteen deaths
and leaving another forty people in hospital. Russia's attack on
Ukraine's capital, Kiev was the biggest attack in twenty twenty five.
President Vladimir Zelenski has said that Russia used a ballistic

(00:45):
missile made in North Korea yesterday. Zelensky cut short a
visit to South Africa to return to Ukraine. Poland sent
planes into the air in precaution for if missiles crossed
into its territory. Talking to journalists yesterday, during a meeting

(01:05):
with Norwegian Prime Minister Jonas Garda stord Us, President Donald
Trump said that he was putting a lot of Prussia
on Russia and said that Russia was making a concession
by not conquering all of Ukraine. White processions, has Russia
offered up thus far to get to the point where

(01:26):
you're closer to peace?

Speaker 2 (01:27):
Stopping the war stopping taking the whole country pretty big consers.

Speaker 1 (01:35):
Writing on social media, the United Kingdom's former Prime Minister
Boris Johnson, who traditionally had strong ties with Trump, criticized
the United States proposed peace deal in this post that
I will read in full quote putin indiscriminately Butcher's more
Ukrainian civilians killing and injuring one hundred in Kiev, including children,

(02:00):
and what is his reward under the latest peace proposals?
One The right to keep sovereign Ukrainian territory he has
taken by violence and in breach of international law. Two
the right to control Ukraine's destiny by forbidding NATO membership.
Three the lifting of sanctions against Russia. Four an economic

(02:22):
partnership with America. Five the chance to rebuild his armed
forces for the next attack in a few short years time.
As for Ukraine, what do they get after three years
of heroic resistance against a brutal and unprovoked invasion. What
is their reward for the appalling sacrifices they have made

(02:42):
for the sake as they have endlessly been told, of
freedom and democracy around the world. Apart from the right
to share their natural resources with the United States, they
get nothing. What is there in this deal that can
realistically stop a third Russian invasion? Nothing. If we are
to prevent more atrocities by Putin, then we must have

(03:04):
a long term, credible and above all properly funded security
guarantee for Ukraine, a guarantee issued by the UK, the
US and all Western allies. In the Vatican City, the
funeral of Pope Francis will take place tomorrow. Over the
last three days, tens of thousands of people have passed

(03:25):
through Saint Peter's Basilica to see the Pope lying in
state Asia. India has closed its border with Pakistan and
both countries have expelled some diplomats during a diplomatic feud.
After an attack left twenty six tourists dead in Indian

(03:46):
administered Kashmir, India has blamed Pakistan for giving a safe
place for terrorists. Yesterday, Indian President Narendra Modi addressed a
crowd in Bihar state and spoke in English, something which
he doesn't do very often. Modi said that India would
punish the terrorists and their backers.

Speaker 2 (04:08):
I said to the whole words, India will identify treks
and funny, how it tarries and their backers. We will

(04:31):
pursue them to the Anadar everyone who believes in humanity
with arts.

Speaker 1 (04:44):
Palestinian Authority President Mahmud Abbas has said that Hamas should
release the remaining Israeli hostages held in Gaza and give
up their weapons in order to secure a peace deal
with Israel. The The Palestinian Authority is the governing body
controlled by the Fatah party, which currently controls most of

(05:06):
the West Bank and used to also control Gaza before
Hamas won the two thousand and six election, which was
the last time there were elections in Gaza Americas. In
the United States, President Donald Trump's personal cryptocurrency named Trump
rose in value by fifty percent after the announcement that

(05:31):
the top two hundred and twenty owners of the coin
would be invited to a dinner hosted by President Trump.
Democrats have said that Trump pushing his own cryptocurrency while
president is corruption. Ecuador's election body has denied a request
for a recount of the presidential election from opposition candidate

(05:55):
Luisa Gonzalez. The authority said that Gonzalez did not show
so significant evidence of fraud. Foreign observers have also said
that the election was free and fair Africa. In Courte Devois.
Opposition leader Tijian Tiam has said that he will continue

(06:17):
to fight for his chance to enter the presidential election
later this year. A court ordered that Tiam should be
removed from the electoral register because he was a citizen
of France at the time of registering. Tiam says that
he renounced his French citizenship in February. Talking to the

(06:38):
Associated Press yesterday, Tiam said that the Ivorian government was
trying to stop him from running.

Speaker 2 (06:45):
It's not for government to decide who runs opposition parties
or who gets to run against them, and that's what
they're frying to do.

Speaker 1 (06:54):
The Democratic Republic of Congo government and the M twenty
three rebel group have agreed to work towards peace after
months of fighting. In January and February, the twenty three,
which is supported by Rwanda, captured the two large eastern
cities of Goma and Bukavu. And in Australia, a company

(07:18):
says that it has successfully tested a male contraceptive. Apart
from condoms, most contraceptives are based on the woman's body,
such as the contraceptive pill or implants that stop a
woman from producing eggs. The new contraceptive is a gel
implanted in the man's genitals which stops a man from

(07:42):
being fertile for two years. The company says that it
is non invasive and reversible. That's your world news for
this week. If you enjoy this podcast and you'd like
