Speaker 1 (00:01):
Good morning. This is send seven World News in seven minutes.
I'm Stephen Devinchenzie. Today is Friday, the thirty first of
October twenty twenty five, starting in Europe today. In the Netherlands,

(00:22):
the general election on Wednesday has resulted in another highly
divided parliament, with five parties gaining between eighteen and twenty
six seats and another ten parties gaining at least one seat.
Because seventy six seats are needed for a majority, at
least four parties will need to form a coalition. The

(00:45):
party with the biggest increase of seats is the liberal
D sixty six party, which won twenty six seats. The
far right Party for Freedom also won twenty six seats,
which is less than what they won in the last election.
Some analysts have said that it will probably be easier
for parties to form a coalition this time as they

(01:08):
can exclude the Party for Freedom. In Ukraine, in the
town of Pokrovsk in Ukraine's Donetsk region, there are many
reports of Russian soldiers now within the city. Russia has
been trying to conquer Pokrofsk for fifteen months and the
city is largely destroyed. The Ukrainian military has also reported

(01:31):
that some Russian soldiers aren't dressing as civilians in order
to move into the town, which is a war crime
according to the Geneva Conventions. In the Ukrainian Defense Ministry's
daily update of Russian military losses, it generally reports that
around one thousand Russian soldiers are killed, captured or severely

(01:53):
injured every day. The total Russian casualties that Ukraine reports
since Russia invaded twenty twenty two is one point one
five million. In France, police have arrested five more people
suspected of being involved in the robbery of crown jewels
from the Louver Museum two weeks ago. The Greek airline

(02:17):
Aegian Airlines will become the first European airline to fly
directly to Iraq's capital city, Baghdad, with the first flight
scheduled for December sixteenth. Americas, across the Caribbean, people are
recovering from the damage caused by Hurricane Melissa over the

(02:39):
last few days, possibly because of people being well notified
and prepared. The death toll in most countries is relatively low,
with only four deaths being confirmed in Jamaica, despite widespread
destruction and flooding. The Dominican Republic and Panama both also
reported four deaths, with twenty five deaths being reported in Haiti.

(03:02):
Reuters spoke to this woman in Jamaica who said that
it was the worst experience of her life yesterday.

Speaker 2 (03:09):
It was horrible, horrific, terrifying, the worst day of my
entire life, the worse experience of my entire life. To
see my place being flooded out, it was serifying for
me and my child. The water level reached me to
my waist. I was stuck in my holes. They had
to break into my home to save me.

Speaker 1 (03:32):
In the United States, a man who spent forty three
years in prison before the murder charge against him was
dropped is now possibly facing deportation. When he was nineteen,
Subramanian Vedam was charged with murdering his friend Thomas Kinzer,
despite there being no witnesses. Recently, the conviction was overturned

(03:56):
after evidence about the bullet used was inconceit distant with
a gun owned by Vedam. However, after being released from prison,
Vedam was immediately arrested by immigration and Customs officials, who
are considering deporting him to India because of a drug
charge when he was a teenager. Verdam was born in

(04:18):
India but moved to the US when he was nine
months old. Africa. In Tanzania, protests continued yesterday, one day
after general elections, which have been widely criticized as being
not free and fair. There were unconfirmed reports of deaths

(04:39):
in the capital, Dara Salam. The Internet continued to be
blocked for a second day yesterday. The United Nations Security
Council will vote today on a resolution about the Western Sahara,
which is a large territory in West Africa which is
claimed by Morocco and also the Araui Republic. Morocco controls

(05:02):
about seventy percent of the territory and Sarawi nationalists control
the other thirty percent, which is closer to Algeria, who
supports the Saraui nationalists. The plan being voted on today
would support making Western Sahara an autonomous region within Morocco,

(05:23):
Asia and Oceania. In South Korea, Chinese President Shijingping and
United States President Donald Trump met yesterday. China agreed to
allow the export of rare earth minerals, and the US
has agreed to cut some tariffs just before the meeting.
While talking to journalists on a plane, Trump said that

(05:47):
he had ordered the United States to start nuclear weapons
testing again for the first time in over thirty years.

Speaker 2 (05:55):
We have more nuclear weapons than anybody. We aren't do
testing with years many years ago, with others story testing.

Speaker 1 (06:04):
I think it's appropriate that.

Speaker 2 (06:05):
We do answer.

Speaker 1 (06:06):
And In Australia, messages in a bottle written by World
War One soldiers have been found on a beach in
Western Australia. The two letters were written by Private Malcolm
Nevill and Private William Harley, who left the messages in
a bottle in the sea in August nineteen sixteen while

(06:28):
they were on the way to France. Nevill was killed
a few months later, but Harley survived the war. The
finder of the bottle dead Brown was able to find
the great nephew of Nevill and the granddaughter of Harley,
who now have the messages listeners. Tomorrow we will release
the first part of a two part interview with Andrew Rivkin,

(06:52):
who self describes as a former Russian propagandist. I absolutely
loved this interview, so I really hope that you will
listen and let me know what you think. Part one
will be released tomorrow Saturday, and Part two will be
released next Saturday. A big thank you to Brigitte in France,
