Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning. This is seven World News in seven minutes.
I'm Stephen Devin Cenzi. Today is Friday, the sixth of
September twenty twenty four. Starting in Europe today in France,

(00:23):
Michel Barnier has been appointed as Prime Minister by President
Emmanuel Macron. France has been in a state of uncertainty
since Macron's snap general election in June and July, which
did not produce a clear result. The left wing alliance

(00:45):
New Popular Front won the most seats, but was far
short of a majority, with Macron's Ensemble Party and the
far right National Rally Party both close behind. Michel Barnier
is from the center right Republican Party, which came fourth.

(01:07):
In order to continue as Prime minister, Barnier will need
at least some members of the New Popular Front or
National Rally to vote for him in a confidence vote.
In Germany, a man was shot dead by police in
Munich yesterday close to the Israeli embassy. The police said

(01:31):
that there was an exchange of fire between the man
and police, but only the gunman was killed. Police have
said that the man was a citizen of Austria and
suggested that he may have been an Islamist terrorist. Spain's
capital city, Madrid, will ban rented electric scooters, according to

(01:58):
Mayor Josse Luis Martin Mea Martinez al Meha said that
the licenses for three scooter companies would be canceled in
October because of a failure to control the circulation and
parking of the scooters. Paris banned scooter rentals last year

(02:22):
Asia and Oceania. Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has said
that Israel's army will not leave the border between Gaza
and Egypt. Hamas have said that for a ceasefire deal
to be agreed, Israeli forces must leave the border area

(02:43):
between Gaza and Egypt, known as the Philadelphi Corridor. However,
Israel has said that doing this could allow Hamas to
bring weapons into Gaza or allow Hamas members to leave Gaza.
Netanyahu said in a press conference yesterday that leaving the
Philadelphia Corridor would not help Israeli hostages.

Speaker 2 (03:06):
I'm willing to make a deal. I made one already,
one that brought back one hundred and fifty hostages, one
hundred and seventeen alive, and I'm committed to return the
remaining one hundred and one. I'll do everything I can

(03:27):
to get them, but leaving Philadelphia does not advance the
release of the hostages.

Speaker 1 (03:34):
New Zealand's Maori population have a new queen. King Tuyetia
died last week and yesterday his daughter was crowned Queen
Unga way Hono. Indonesia has deported a Filipino former mayor
who is accused of having corrupt links to China, Alice

(03:59):
Guaor is under investigation for corruption in the Philippines Africa.
In Uganda, Olympic marathon runner Rebecca Chiptegi has died in
hospital after being attacked by her former boyfriend a few
days ago. Chiptegi participated in the Paris Olympics last month.

(04:24):
In is Swatini formerly known as Swaziland, one of the
daughters of former South African president Jacob Zuma will marry
King Munswati, the third nomseebe Zuma is twenty one and
will marry King Mumswati, who is fifty six. King Umswati

(04:45):
already has fifteen other wives America's. In the United States,
a fourteen year old boy has been arrested after a
shooting in a school in Georgia. The boy killed two
teachers and two students, with nine others injured. Also in

(05:08):
the United States, the former deputy chief of staff to
New York Governor Kathy Hockel has been charged with spying
for China. Linda Sunn and her husband are accused of
acting as agents for China in exchange for millions of
dollars and other gifts. In Brazil, a massive wildfire has

(05:34):
been burning close to the capital city, Brasilia. The fire
has covered Brasilia in smoke. Officials have said that the
fire may have been started deliberately. Also in Brazil, people
are almost evenly divided between those who support the banning

(05:55):
of social media platform X and those who don't. According
to a recent poll of one thousand, six hundred Brazilians,
fifty one percent said that they do not agree with
the banning of X and forty eight percent said that
they do agree with it. However, when asked whether they

(06:16):
agree with X owner Elon Musk or Supreme Court judge
Alexandre de Morius, fifty percent agreed with Morius and only
forty four percent agreed with Musk. And dogs can remember
the names of toys years after not seeing them. A

(06:37):
new study has shown that dogs can store the names
of objects in their long term memory and showed that
they could remember the name of a toy even if
they hadn't seen it for two years. A big thank
you to Oscar Javier in Spain, Catherine also in Spain,
