Speaker 1 (00:01):
Good morning. This is send seven World News in seven minutes.
I'm Stephen Devincenzi. Today is Monday, the fifteenth of September
twenty twenty five. Starting in the Americas today, in Brazil,

(00:23):
former president JayR. Bolsnaro has been sentenced to twenty seven
years in prison after being found guilty of attempting to
abolish Brazilian democracy by preventing the transfer of power after
losing the twenty twenty two presidential election. The sentence also

(00:43):
reflects that Bolsonaro planned to kill his rival Luis in
Nacio Lula da Silva and Supreme Court Judge Alexandra de Morees.
Over the last few weeks, there have been some protests
in support of Bolsonaro by people who see this trial
as being politically motivated. However, this weekend there were also

(01:06):
some celebrations at the prison sentence by Brazilians who say
that democracy has been saved. In the United States, the
main suspect in the murder of right wing influencer Charlie
Kirk has been identified as Tyler Robinson, a twenty two
year old from Utah, the state where Kirk was assassinated.

(01:30):
Utah Governor Spencer Cox said that a family member had
told investigators that Robinson had become more political recently and
had discussed why he didn't like kirk Cox said that
Robinson was clearly a leftist. In Paraguay, the Mexican politician

(01:51):
and alleged leader of the drug cartel La Barredora Ernan
Bermudes was arrested in a joint operation by Mexican and
Paraguayan authorities. According to Mexico's Secretary of Security, Bermudees was
himself previously the Secretary of security for the state of

(02:13):
Tabasco Asia. In Myanmar, more than ten students were killed
in an air strike at a boarding school, according to
local media reports. Myanmar has been in a civil war
between the military and various ethnic groups and pro democracy

(02:33):
groups since the military removed the democratically elected government in
twenty twenty one. Israel destroyed at least thirty residential buildings
in Gaza City this weekend after telling everyone in Gaza
City to leave. At least fifty two people were killed
in strikes across the Gaza Strip yesterday, according to Al Jazeera.

(02:56):
At the United Nations this weekend, one hundred and forty
two countries voted for a resolution calling for a two
state solution between Israel and Palestine. The resolution also condemned
Hamas's attack on Israel on October seventh, twenty twenty three,
and condemned Israel's continued assault on Gaza. Just ten countries

(03:20):
voted against it. Israel's representative at the UN, Danny Danon,
said that the resolution was one sided.

Speaker 2 (03:29):
This declaration is one sided. He does not designate hamas
At a terrorist organization, and it dares to equate the
release of Israeli hostages with the release of convicted terrorists.
Shame on you.

Speaker 1 (03:47):
Nepal's President ram Chandra Pudel has appointed the former Supreme
Court Chief Justice Sushila Kaki as Prime Minister after the
resignation of KP. Sho Oli last week during protests. Khaki
is the first female prime minister of Nepal. In Turkya's

(04:08):
capital city, Ankora, tens of thousands of people joined protests
this weekend against the persecution of the government's political opponents,
like eklam Imamoglu, the mayor of Istanbul, who has been
in prison since March on corruption charges. Europe Romania said

(04:31):
yesterday that a Russian drone had entered its airspace. A
few days after, Poland said that nineteen Russian drones entered
Poland and some of them were shot down by NATO planes.
This weekend, NATO made a new plan to boost defensive
security on its eastern borders. Polish Foreign Minister Radoslav Sikorski

(04:55):
told Reuters this weekend that NATO needs to show Russian
President of Vlad Putin that there are limits. We need
to collectively show Fortune that there are limits to his
hybrid war.

Speaker 2 (05:11):
Where we will stop him.

Speaker 1 (05:12):
Because remember, this is not an isolated incident, It's part
of a pattern. Ukrainian drones hit one of Russia's largest
oil refineries yesterday, starting a fire, according to Russian officials.
In Georgia, thousands of people joined anti government protests this weekend,

(05:34):
calling for new elections. They have been almost continuous protests
in Georgia since elections last year, which opposition groups say
were rigged in favor of the ruling Georgian Dream Party.
In Spain, an explosion at a cafe in Madrid has
killed one person and injured twenty one. Emergency services have

(05:57):
said that the explosion was probably caused by a gas leak.
In the United Kingdom, over one hundred thousand people joined
a nationalist and anti immigration demonstration on Saturday called Unite
the Kingdom. A smaller anti fascist protest took place at

(06:17):
the same time, and there was some violence between the
two groups and police. Africa. In the Democratic Republic of Congo,
at least one hundred and seven people have died after
a river boat caught fire and sank, According to Reuter's
News agency, South Sudan's first Vice President, Riek Macha, has

(06:43):
been charged with treason, murder and crimes against humanity. Macha
has been first vice president since twenty twenty, when a
peace deal was made with his long time rival, President
Salva Kiir. During this year, there had been tensioned between
Macha and Kiir again, with Kia accusing Matcha of supporting

(07:06):
rebels that are fighting the South Sudanese Army and in Nigeria.
The world record for the biggest dish of joloff rice
might have been broken. Celebrity chef Hilda Bachi used four
thousand kilos of rice, five hundred cartoons of tomato paste,

(07:27):
six hundred kilos of onions, and one hundred and sixty
eight kilos of goat meat in a giant pot being
stirred by several people with giant spoons. However, it is
not clear if the Guinness World Record was broken because
the pot broke when it was being lifted by a
crane to be weighed. None of the food was lost

(07:51):
and it was distributed to the audience. Jolof rice is
a common rice dish across West Africa. A big thang.

Stuff You Should Know
Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
