Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning. This is Send seven World News in seven minutes.
I'm Stephen Devin Cenzi. Today is Monday, the seventeenth of
November twenty twenty five. Starting in the Americas today. In Ecuador,

(00:23):
there was a referendum yesterday asking various questions, including whether
foreign countries should be allowed to host military bases in Ecuador.
President Danielle Noboa wants the United States to have a
military presence in Ecuador, which he says would help internal security.

(00:44):
In Mexico, over one hundred people were injured this weekend
in gen Z protests against corruption and the continuing violence
from drug gangs. Chile held a general election yesterday. At
the time of recording this podcast, votes have just started
being counted. In the United States, President Donald Trump has

(01:09):
cut tariffs on some food imports, including tomatoes, coffee, bananas,
and beef. Since becoming president this year, Trump has imposed
a ten percent base tariff on imports from all countries
and various other tariffs for different countries. Some media analysts
are saying that his reversal on some food tariffs is

(01:33):
a sign that Trump is recognizing that his tariffs are
causing inflation, which he has always said they would not.
Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong told ABC Australia that the
lowering of tariffs on beef would be good for Australian farmers.

Speaker 2 (01:52):
We welcome the lifting of these tariffs. You know, that's
a good thing for Australian bak producers. We maintain a
clear consistent baziz. We do not support terrace. We believe
in being able to access each other's markets. We think
that's in the best interests of consumers as well as
of producers.

Speaker 1 (02:14):
Africa, the Democratic Republic of Congo and the M twenty
three rebel Group have signed a preliminary peace deal in Qatar.
The M twenty three group, which is supported by Rwanda,
took control of a large part of eastern DRC earlier
this year, including the two major cities of Goma and Bukavu.

(02:37):
Ethiopia has confirmed an outbreak of the Marburg virus, although
only nine cases have been found. Marburg is taken especially
seriously as it kills more than half of people who
become infected. It is transmitted through bodily fluids Asia China

(02:59):
has sent its Coast Guard to the waters around the
Sengkaku islands, which are uninhabited islands administered by Japan but
also claimed by China and Taiwan. There has been tension
between China and Japan since last week, when Japan's new
Prime Minister Sanai Tagaichi said that Japan may respond militarily

(03:23):
if China attacked Taiwan. In Japan, a poll by Kyodo
News found that about forty nine percent of people agree
with responding militarily if China attacks Taiwan, with forty four
percent disagreeing. In India, the police have said that an

(03:44):
accidental explosion has killed at least nine people and injured
twenty seven more in Indian controlled Kashmir. Policemen, government officials
and forensic staff were killed when the confiscated explosives detonated.
In the Philippines, there were large protests this weekend against

(04:04):
allegations of corruption in state funded flood management projects Europe.
In Ukraine, Russia used hundreds of drones and missiles to
attack various regions, including the capital Kiv this weekend. At
least twelve civilians were killed and many more were injured

(04:26):
in attacks on Kiev, Kasan and Saparisia regions. Ukraine has
used long range drones to hit more Russian oil infrastructure
over the last few days, including the Ryasan oil refinery,
which is one of the biggest in Russia, and the
oil depot in the port of Novorosiskue on the Black Sea.

(04:48):
Some analysts have said that the attack on Novorossisk suspended
about two percent of the world's oil exports and that
this was responsible for a more than two percent ride
in the global price of oil. Russia's Defense ministry released
video this weekend of North Korean soldiers helping to d

(05:09):
mine Russia's Kursek region, where Ukraine held territory. Between last
year and this year, North Korea sent around fourteen thousand
soldiers to fight for Russia against Ukraine, and Ukrainian and
South Korean military intelligence says that more than six thousand
were killed. Portugal, Spain, Ireland, and the United Kingdom were

(05:32):
hit by Storm Claudia over the last few days, with
three deaths recorded in Portugal and severe flooding in Ireland
in the UK. In Spain, former head of the Spanish
football Federation Luis Uruyalies has said that he doesn't regret
kissing captain of the women's team Jenny Ermoso at the

(05:53):
awards ceremony after Spain's women's team won the World Cup
in twenty twenty three. Talking to the British new newspaper
The Sunday Times, Rubialis continues to claim that the kiss
was consensual, despite being convicted of sexual assault. Rubielis has
recently released a book called Matar Rubialis or Killing Rubialis,

(06:15):
in which he claims to have been the victim of
woke ideology. In Germany, an auction of Holocaust items has
been canceled after criticism from Holocaust survivors. The items to
be sold included letters written by prisoners. Polish Foreign Minister
Radoslav Sikorski said that German Foreign Minister Johann Vadepoul had

(06:40):
agreed with him that the auction should not happen. And
also in Germany, hundreds of sheep passed through the city
center of Nuremberg yesterday. Around six hundred sheep made the
ten kilometer journey to their new fields from one side
of Nuremberg to the other. Shepherd Thomas Gagstatter said that

(07:03):
Nuremberg is the only major city where sheep cross the
central square. A big thank you to Jordana in Slovenia
and Booma in Germany for becoming our newest supporters. If

vocabulary lists, worksheets, and world news quizzes, then you can

ten percent of our profit to the world's most effective charities.
There was a bonus episode released this weekend. I had
a great talk with Bri about Canadian politics and other things.

(07:45):
Go to the previous episode to listen to that. Tomorrow
you'll be with Niall Moore. Have a great day.

Are You A Charlotte?

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
