Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning. This is Send seven World News in seven minutes.
I'm Stephen Devin Cenzi. Today is Monday, the eighth of
December twenty twenty five. Starting in Africa. Today. In Benin,

(00:22):
there was an attempted kudita yesterday. Yesterday morning, a group
of soldiers attacked the residents of President Patrice Talent and
some other areas and took control of the state broadcaster
and declared that Talon had been removed from office and

(00:43):
that they were now in control of the country. However,
a few hours later, Interior Minister Alassan Celu declared that
the military had recovered control of the situation and that
the coup attempt had failed. Benin is generally considered to
be relatively democratic compared to other countries in Africa, and

(01:07):
President Tallon has said that he will not be a
candidate in next year's presidential election. In Mozambique, over one
hundred thousand people have been displaced by fighting over the
last few weeks. According to the United Nations, Islamist jihadist
groups have been fighting the Mozambique government in the northern

(01:30):
region of Cabor de La Gado for many years. However,
a UN report says that the violence has spread to
other areas in the last few weeks Americas. In the
United States, the Vaccine Advisory Panel has voted to remove

(01:51):
the recommendation for all children to receive the hepatitis B vaccine.
Health Secretary RFK Junior recently changed the members of the panel,
choosing many members that are often considered vaccine skeptical. The
World Health Organization recommends that all babies receive hepatitis B vaccinations.

(02:13):
Doctor Cody Meisner was one of the only members of
the panel who voted against the change, saying that the
change would cause harm. And I will just say we've
heard do no harm is moral imperative. We are doing
harm by changing this wording, and I vote no. In Honduras,

(02:36):
the results of the presidential election is still too close
to call, more than a week after voting took place yesterday,
With about eighty eight percent of votes counted, Conservative candidate
Nazrie Aspura was just slightly ahead of centrist liberal candidate
Salvador Nazula, with both candidates having received around forty votes.

(03:02):
In Argentina, land space used for growing pistachios has multiplied
by five over the last five years. According to pistachio
industry data, almost ninety percent of the world's production of
pistachios comes from just three countries, the United States, Iran,
and Turkya. Reports say that farmers in Central Argentina have

(03:25):
been deciding to dedicate land to pistachios due to a
rise in global demand, partially driven by Dubai chocolate, which
is milk chocolate mostly filled with pistachio cream asia. In India,
a fire in a nightclub in Goa has killed twenty

(03:46):
five people, according to local officials. Goa Chief Minister Pramod
Sawanta said that the night club was operating without correct licenses.
Indian media has reported that twenty of the victims were
staff and five were tourists. Also in India, the government

(04:06):
has reversed an order that all new smartphones must have
a state security app pre installed. Last week, both Apple
and Google said that they would refuse to follow the order,
and there was also political opposition within India. In Afghanistan,
the Taliban have said that five civilians have been killed

(04:28):
by Pakistani fire across the international border. Both Pakistan and
the Taliban have accused each other of breaking the ceasefire,
which was agreed In October in Iran, the organizers of
a marathon have been arrested after images showed many women
competing without wearing a headscarf. In Iran, it is illegal

(04:53):
for women to be in public without wearing a scarf
over their hair. Various reports say that more women are
ignoring this rule since protests in twenty twenty two, after
Massa Amini, a twenty two year old, died in police
custody after being arrested for not wearing a headscarf. In Indonesia,

(05:15):
the death toll from floods on the northern ireland of
Sumatra has risen to over nine hundred in the last
two weeks. Europe, Spain, the Netherlands, Ireland and Slovenia have
said that they will not participate in the Eurovision Song
contest because Israel has been allowed to participate again in

(05:38):
twenty twenty six. On the contrary, Germany said that it
would not participate if Israel had been banned. Spain, the Netherlands,
Ireland and Slovenia said that Israel shouldn't be allowed in
the competition because of the numbers of civilians killed by
Israel in Gaza, and they also said that Israel had
broken Eurovision rules on neutrality. In the United Kingdom, Prime

(06:03):
Minister Sir Kiirstarma, Ukrainian President Voladimir Zelenski, German Chancellor Friedrich
Mirtz and French President Immanuel Macron are meeting today to
discuss Ukraine and ongoing peace negotiations with Russia. Macran said
on Saturday that what is at stake in Ukraine is
the security of all of Europe. In Greece, eighteen migrants

(06:27):
have died after their boat capsized close to the island
of Crete, Greek authorities have said. In France, over three
hundred works of art in the Louver Museum's Egyptian department
have been damaged because of a water leak. The museum
has said. In October, pieces of France's crown jewels were

(06:51):
stolen from the Louver. And in Italy, the mayor of
a town has apologized to the widow of singer Luciano
Pavarotti after a statue of Pavarotti was surrounded by an
ice rink. Mayor of Pesaro, Andrea Bianci, originally encouraged ice

(07:13):
skaters to give a high five to Pavarotti. However, after
Pavarotti's widow, Nicoletta Mantovani, complained. Mayor Bianchi admitted that it
was a mistake. A big thank you to Arturo in
