Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning. This is Send seven World News in seven minutes.
I'm Stephen Devin Cenzi. Today is Monday, the ninth of
September twenty twenty four. Starting in the Americas. Today in Venezuela,

(00:23):
security forces have surrounded the Argentinian embassy in Caracas, where
six Venezuelan opposition politicians have been seeking asylum since March.
Argentina's embassy has said that it is under siege and
that the electricity supply has been cut. Venezuela has said

(00:46):
that the Argentinian embassy is being used by fugitives that
plan terrorist activities and attempts to murder President Nicolas Maduro.
On Friday, Argentina's Foreign Minister Diana Mundino called on the
International Criminal Court to order an arrest warrant for Maduro. Yesterday,

(01:09):
Venezuelan opposition leader Edmundo Gonzalez arrived in Spain, where he
has been granted asylum after a court in Venezuela issued
an arrest warrant for him. Rights groups and many governments
say that Gonzalez was the real winner of the presidential
election in July and not Maduro, as was declared by

(01:32):
Venezuela's Electoral Council in the United States, presidential candidates Vice
President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump will have
their first TV debate tomorrow night. It will also be
the first time that they meet each other. At the moment,
most opinion polls are showing Harris slightly ahead of Trump

(01:57):
in terms of vote share. However, when considering the US
electoral College system, which decides who wins an election, polls
are too close to show a winner. Dick Cheney, who
was the Republican Vice president to President George W. Bush,

(02:17):
has said that he will vote for Democrat candidate Kamala Harris.
About Trump, Cheney said, quote, he tried to steal the
last election, using lies and violence to keep himself in
power after the voters had rejected him. He can never
be trusted with power again. End quote. Reacting to the

(02:41):
endorsement of Dick Cheney and his daughter, former Republican Congresswoman
Liz Cheney, Harris said that she was honored.

Speaker 2 (02:49):
I'm honored to have their endorsement, and I think that
what they both as leaders who are well respected, are
making an important state that it's okay and it's not
important to put country above party. We love our country
and we have more common than what separates us Africa.

Speaker 1 (03:14):
In Algeria, election authorities have said that President Abdul Madjid
Tibun won ninety five percent of votes in Saturday's presidential election.
Human rights group Amnesty International said last week that Algerian
authorities were repressing human rights and freedom of expression. Before

(03:36):
the election. Twenty six candidates submitted paperwork to become candidates. However,
only two were approved to challenge Tibun. In Nigeria, at
least forty eight people have died in an explosion caused
by a fuel tanker crashing into another truck in Nize State.

(04:00):
In Sudan, head of the World Health Organization, doctor Tedros Adenom,
has said that the world needs to wake up and
help people during the humanitarian crisis caused by civil war.
During a visit to Port Sudan yesterday, Adonom said that
the international community must respond to the suffering.

Speaker 3 (04:23):
Sudan Is are suffering through a perfect storm of crisis.
Over five hundred days of conflict, the largest level of
displacement in the world finding in some parts and risk
of this in others. Twenty five point six million people,

(04:45):
over half of sudan Is population are expected to face
high levels of acute food in security.

Speaker 1 (04:54):
Europe. In France, there were left wing protests this week
against the appointment of center right politician Michel Banier as
Prime minister. Supporters of the New Popular Front say that
a left wing politician should be prime minister, as the
NPF won the most seats in this year's parliamentary election.

(05:18):
Also in France, the Paralympics finished this weekend. China won
the most medals with two hundred and twenty two, followed
by Great Britain, United States, Brazil, and Ukraine. Romania and
Latvia both said that Russian drones entered their airspace this weekend.

(05:39):
Romania's Ministry of Defense said that it had sent fighter
jets towards a Russian drone that entered its airspace, while
Russia carried out attacks on civilian targets and port infrastructure
on Ukraine's side of the Danube River. Latvian President Edgars
Rinkovich said yes that a Russian military drone crossed from

(06:03):
Belarus into Latvia, where it crashed Asia in Palestine's West Bank,
a Turkish American woman was shot dead by Israeli soldiers
on Friday during a protest. The United States has asked
Israel to investigate, and Turkish President Recip tayeb Erdlugan called

(06:26):
the shooting barbaric. Yesterday, three Israeli border guards were shot
dead on the border between Jordan and the West Bank.
Israel's military said that a Jordanian man was shot dead
after firing at the border workers. In Israel, there were
massive protests on Saturday against the government's failure to recover

(06:50):
the remaining hostages that are being held by Hamas in Gaza.
In China, the Philippines and Vietnam, typhoon yeah Ugi has
caused widespread destruction. In the Philippines, at least sixteen people
are known to have died, with four people reported dead
on China's island of Hainan. Yagi is currently over Vietnam,

(07:15):
where schools and airports have been closed. Today, Yagi is
expected to cross into Laos and back into China. However,
it is not expected to be as strong and in Japan,
there is a rising demand for services that quit people's
jobs for them. Japan is known both for its strong

(07:39):
work ethic and for people being shy. This combination has
led to people finding it difficult to tell their companies
that they want to leave. There are now around one
hundred companies that quit people's jobs for them, so that
the employee doesn't have to tell their employ face to face.
