Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning. This is sen seven World News in seven minutes.
I'm now more. Today is Tuesday, the second of December
twenty twenty five. Today we're starting. In Africa, Guinea Bissau

(00:25):
has been suspended from membership of the African Union because
of the military coup that took place last week. In
a statement, the African Union's Peace and Security Council said
that it has quote zero tolerance on unconstitutional changes of
government and would ban Guinea Bissau from all activities of

(00:49):
the African Union until constitutional order is restored. It is
unclear yet what effect this pressure will have on Guinea
Bissau's new military rulers. In Algeria, leaders from across Africa
have gathered in the city of Algiers to discuss a

(01:11):
resolution to demand justice and reparations for victims of colonialism.
Algeria itself was ruled by French colonialists for more than
one hundred years until it fought a war of independence,
finally winning its freedom in nineteen sixty two. In a

(01:31):
speech to African leaders in Algiers, the Algerian Foreign Minister
Ahmed Attaff said that Africa is entitled to demand the
official and explicit recognition of crimes committed against its peoples
during the colonial period. The South African President Cyril Ramaphosa

(01:56):
has dismissed United States President Donald Trump's threat to exclude
South Africa from next year's G twenty summit in the
US state of Florida. President Trump has recently claimed multiple
times that there is a genocide of white farmers in
South Africa, even though there is no evidence of this.

(02:20):
President Ramaphosa called Trump's claims quote blatant misinformation and said
that South Africa is and will remain a full, active
and constructive member of the G twenty Americas. In Haiti,

(02:43):
heavily armed gangs attacked the central Artibonite region over the weekend,
including the towns of Bersi and Ponsonde. An official in
Ponsonde confirmed that at least twelve people have been killed,
including a mother and her child, whilst hundreds have been

(03:04):
forced to flee. In the United States, President Donald Trump
has confirmed that he has spoken with Venezuelan President Nicholas
Maduro on the phone. Tensions between the US and Venezuela
have been rising recently as the US continues to send

(03:25):
military planes, ships, and troops close to Venezuela, which President
Maduro has warned is a sign that the US is
preparing to attack his country. President Trump was asked what
he and Maduro spoke about during their phone call, but
he did not give any details. However, the fact that

(03:49):
there has been direct communication suggests that the US and
Venezuela may be looking for a diplomatic solution to the
current crisis. Asia. Israel has conducted raids into southern Syria.
Syrian state media said that thirteen people were killed in

(04:12):
the raid. Israel's military said that they were fired at
when they were attempting to arrest militants in the village
of bate Jan, which is close to the Israeli controlled
Golan Heights. Since the end of the regime of Bashah
al Assad last December, Israel has occupied a few hundred

(04:34):
meters of land inside Syria to the east of the
Golan Heights, including a few villages. In Hong Kong, officials
investigating the fire that destroyed three apartment buildings and killed
at least one hundred and fifty one people have found
that the netting that surrounded the buildings did not meet

(04:59):
fire say ffety standards. Hong Kong's Chief Secretary Eric Chan
said that the unsafe netting showed that companies working on
the building quote just wanted to make money at the
expense of people's lives. In Australia, the Therapeutic Goods Administration,

(05:23):
which regulates medicines, has warned that popular weight loss drugs
might cause people to have suicidal thoughts. Drugs like ozepic,
Wegovi and Mountjaro have become widely used in Australia and
other countries because they are very effective at helping people

(05:45):
lose weight. However, Australian officials have noticed that an unusually
high number of people who use these drugs experience worsening
mental health, becoming depressed and even attempting suicide. Meanwhile, yesterday,

(06:07):
the World Health Organization published its first official advice on
these weight loss drugs, calling for more access to them
around the world to help the more than one billion
people who are now very overweight. Europe, Ukrainian President of

(06:29):
Vladimir Zelenski has met with French President Emmanuel Macron in
Paris to discuss Europe's approach to ending the war in Ukraine.
In a press conference, both Zelenski and Macron emphasized that
there could be no peace still without Ukraine's direct involvement.

(06:52):
A British member of Parliament, Tulipsidik, has been sentenced to
two years in prison by a court in Bangladesh. Sadik
is the niece of former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina,
who was recently sentenced to death in Bangladesh for allegedly

(07:12):
ordering security forces to shoot protesters. Sadik is accused of
corruption for allegedly asking her aunt to secure her a
piece of land for her family near Bangladesh's capital city, Dhaka.
Sadiq says she is innocent and questioned why she has

(07:34):
not been contacted by Bangladeshi authorities about this case.

Speaker 2 (07:39):
I'm absolutely battled by the whole thing. I've still had
no contact whatsoever from the Bangladashik authorities despite them spreading
malicious allegations against me for a year and a half now.

Speaker 1 (07:53):
And in France, thieves have stolen ninety thousand euros worth
of snails from a farm near the northern city of Reems.
Edible snails, known as es cargo, are an expensive delicacy
in France, and December is a particularly busy period for

(08:14):
snail farms because people treat themselves at Christmas. The French
police are searching for the snail thieves. That's your world
news in seven minutes. If you enjoy this podcast, please
tell your friends to find Simple English news daily in
their podcast app. I'm nile More. Tomorrow you will be

(08:37):
with Stephen Devinchenzi. Have a great day.

Are You A Charlotte?

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
