Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning. This is Send seven World News in seven minutes.
I'm Stephen Devin Cenzi. Today is Wednesday, the twenty fourth
of September twenty twenty five, starting in the Americas today

(00:21):
in the United States. Yesterday was the first day of
the General Debate of the United Nations General Assembly. United
Nations Secretary General Antonio Guterres spoke about recent cuts to
international aid and the effect that this is having on
the humanitarian situation around the world. He also spoke about

(00:45):
countries invading each other, about a disregard for truth, about impunity,
and about climate change.

Speaker 2 (00:55):
The pillars of peace and progress are backley and they're
the ways the impuri the inequality and indifference, sovereign nations invaliance, hunger,
weaponized thruth, silence, rising smoke from bomb daovsitis, rising anger

(01:16):
in fractured societies, rising seas swallowing postlines.

Speaker 1 (01:21):
Also at the United Nations General Assembly, Brazilian President Luis
Inacio Lula da Silva said that Brazil had shown that
democracy can beat autocracy. Katar's Sheik Altani criticized Israel's missile
strike on Qatar this month. Lithuanian President Ekeitanas Nolseda spoke

(01:44):
mostly about Russia's aggression and warned against the appeasement which
led to World War II. Turkish President reciptyab Urdugan spoke
about supporting Syria's new government, congratulated Armenia and azerbai Jan
for making a peace deal, and referred to Israel's actions

(02:04):
in Gaza as barbarity and madness. Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto
said that Indonesia was ready to send twenty thousand peacekeepers
to either Gaza or Ukraine. United States President Donald Trump
criticized the United Nations itself, criticized European countries for allowing

(02:28):
mass migration, said that the Mayor of London, Sadik Khan,
wants to impose sharia law on London, and said that
climate change was quote the greatest con job ever perpetrated
on the world end quote. South African President Cyril Ramaposa
called for reform of the YUN Security Council, noting that

(02:52):
Africa and South America are not represented at all, and
South Korean President Li Jai Mung said that he wanted
to see a new era of peace with North Korea.
In the United States, President Donald Trump has told pregnant
women not to take paracetamol, also known as acetaminophen and

(03:16):
commonly known as the brand name Tylanol in the United States.
Trump said that women taking Tylannol during pregnancy may make
it more likely that their baby develops autism. The American
College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists have rejected Trump's claim and

(03:37):
called his statements highly concerning and irresponsible. The Society for
Maternal Fetal Medicine has said that paracetamol is an important
intervention to reduce fever during pregnancy, which can be harmful
to both mother and baby. Trump also claimed that vaccines

(03:58):
are related to autism and said that they are pumping
babies full of vaccines.

Speaker 3 (04:05):
And they pump so much stuff into those beautiful little babies.
It's a disgrace. I don't see it, and I think
it has I think it's very bad. They're pumping. It
looks like pumping into a horse. You have a little child,
little fragile child, that he had a that of eighty
different vaccines, I guess eighty different blends, and they pump

(04:28):
it in.

Speaker 1 (04:29):
The World Health Organization and various country's health bodies have
also rejected Trump's claims. The United Kingdom's Health Secretary, Where's Streeting,
was asked about Trump's claims on a daytime television show
after presenter Lorraine Kelly said that her program was receiving
calls from women who were scared about using paracetamol, and

(04:52):
Streeting said that people should not listen to President Trump
for medical advice.

Speaker 4 (04:58):
It's got to be really clear about this. There is
no evidence to link the use of paracetamol by pregnant
women to autism in their children.

Speaker 2 (05:09):
None.

Speaker 4 (05:10):
Don't pay any attention whatsoever to what Donald Trump says
about medicine.

Speaker 1 (05:16):
Argentina has temporarily suspended export taxes on grains products made
from grains, beef and chicken. The suspension will last either
until the end of October or until exports reach a
total of seven billion dollars. The decision is generally being
described as a way of Argentina receiving more foreign money quickly.

(05:41):
Reuter's reported yesterday that Chinese buyers had already made significant
purchases of Argentinian soybeans since the tax suspension was announced Europe.
In Denmark, police have said that two or three laved
drones were operating on Monday night close to Copenhagen Airport.

(06:05):
The airport was shut for hours. Danish Prime Minister Meta
Fredrickson said that this was a serious attack on Danish
critical infrastructure and said that investigations were continuing into who
was responsible and when asked if it could be Russia,
she said it was possible. In Norway, Oslo Airport was

(06:27):
also closed for three hours after two drones were seen there.
Ukraine can win the war with Russia and can win
back all of its territory, according to United States President
Donald Trump, who wrote this yesterday in a post on
his truth social platform. Asia Taiwan, the Philippines and China

(06:55):
have been hit by super typhoon Ragasa, which is the
most powerful trope called cyclone this year until now Yesterday.
Many businesses in Hong Kong remained closed to avoid damage,
and Hong Kong International Airport is closed for thirty six
hours from yesterday until tomorrow morning, the longest the airport

(07:16):
has ever closed. Ragasa is expected to lose strength before
entering Vietnam tomorrow. The Philippines' former president, Rodrigo Dutterte, has
been charged with crimes against humanity at the International Criminal
Court in the Netherlands. Dutete is accused of being responsible

(07:37):
for murders during his self proclaimed war on drugs during
his time as mayor of Davao City and later during
his time as President Africa. Three West African states which
are run by military juntas have said that they are

(07:57):
leaving the International Criminal Court Mali, Niger and Bukina. Fasso
said that the court is a tool of neo colonial repression.
And in Kenya, the Turkana ethnic group of people is
genetically adapted to live in a difficult environment. According to

(08:18):
a new study, Turkana County, where the Turkana people live,
is in northwestern Kenya, which is extremely hot and dry
and has limited vegetation. The new study showed that Turkana
people had genetically adapted over thousands of years by natural selection.

(08:39):
Researchers showed that Turkana people's bodies are especially well suited
for responding to dehydration and to eating meat and blood.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
