Speaker 1 (00:00):
Good morning. This is send seven world news in seven minutes.
I'm Stephen Devincenzi. Today is Wednesday, the third of December
twenty twenty five. Starting in Asia today in India, Apple

(00:22):
will not comply with new regulations to install a state
controlled cyber security app in most new phones. According to
a report by Reuter's news agency, India has ordered that
the app called Sanscha Sadi or Communication Partner, should be

(00:43):
pre installed in new phones, and they say that it
is intended to track stolen phones and block them. Reuters
has reported that Apple is planning to ignore the order.
In Lebanon, Pope Leo finished his first trip abroad yesterday
after also visiting Turkya last week. In Beirut's Central Martyrs Square,

(01:09):
the Pope gave a speech in English to religious leaders.

Speaker 2 (01:13):
For many years, and especially in recent times, the eyes
of the world have been fixed on the Middle East,
the cradle of the Abrahamic religions, observing the arduous journey
and the unceasing quest for the precious gift of peace.
At times, humanity looks at the Middle East with a

(01:34):
sense of trepidation and disheartenment in the face of such
complex and longstanding conflicts. Yet in the midst of these struggles,
a sense of hopefulness and encouragement can be found when
we focus on what unites us, our common humanity and

(01:55):
our belief in a God of love and mercy.

Speaker 1 (02:02):
Europe. In Spain, authorities are searching for wild pigs which
could be infected with African swine fever. Police and soldiers
have joined park workers in attempting to identify wild pigs
that could be infected. The aim is to ensure that

(02:23):
the disease does not cross into farmed pigs, as it
can be fatal to pigs although it doesn't hurt people.
Spain is the biggest pork exporter in the European Union
and the second biggest in the world. In Ukraine, yesterday
there was a day of mourning in the central city

(02:44):
of di Nipro after a Russian missile attack on Monday
killed at least four civilians and injured over forty. Yesterday,
Russian drones killed civilians in the southern region of Rossan
and eastern region of Donetsk, according to local bus authorities. Yesterday,
Russia's Defense Ministry released a video which claims to show

(03:06):
its soldiers in the center of the city of Pokrovsk.
Russia started its offensive to conquer Pokrofsk sixteen months ago
and the city has been largely destroyed. There are almost
no civilians left in the city. Yesterday, Russian President Vladimir
Putin met with US diplomats. Before the meeting, Putin told reporters,

(03:30):
quote Europe is preventing the US administration from achieving peace
on Ukraine, and quote Russia does not intend to fight Europe,
but if Europe starts, we are ready right now. Bulgaria's
government has canceled a planned budget after tens of thousands

(03:52):
of people joined protests on Monday night. There was some
violence between police and protesters after protesters attacked the offices
of the governing GERB and DPS parties. Protesters say that
the budget plan was an attempt to hide government corruption,

(04:12):
as well as also raising taxes. Bulgaria will officially change
currency from the LEV to the Euro on the first
of January. The LEV has been pegged to the euro
since twenty twenty. In Italy, the high fashion brand Prada
has bought the other Italian high fashion brand, Versace for

(04:35):
around one point three billion euros. Africa, the Democratic Republic
of Congo's Health ministry has declared the end of the
most recent Ibola outbreak after forty two days without recording
a new case. Nigeria has said that it is giving

(04:57):
protection to Guinea Bissau opposition presidential candidate Fernando Dias at
the Nigerian Embassy in Bissau. Ten days ago, there was
a presidential election in Guinea Bissau in which either President
Umero Susoko Imbalo or opposition leader Fernando Dias were expected

(05:19):
to win. However, before the results were announced, the military
took power in a coup. Embalo is believed to have
fled to the Republic of Congo. In Cameroon, the opposition
leader and democracy activist Anisette Ikane has died in a
military prison, a month after being arrested on accusations of

(05:43):
insurrection and rebellion. Ikane's son said that his father was ill,
but that he wasn't given the medical treatment he needed
when in prison. They have been protests in Cameroon since
the presidential election six weeks ago, which were largely regarded
as fraudulent in favor of President Paul Bier, who has

(06:05):
been in office since nineteen eighty two Americas. In Honduras,
the result of the presidential election is still not clear
because of system failures making the counting process very slow,
and because the votes counted so far show an extremely

(06:28):
close result. Yesterday, with over sixty percent of votes counted,
the centrist Liberal Party candidate Salvador Nazreala had won thirty
nine point nine percent of votes and the conservative candidate
Nazrie Aspura had won thirty nine point eight percent of votes.

(06:48):
Honduras has a one round system, so whoever gets the
most votes will become president. United States President Donald Trump
said yesterday that their could be attacks on drug gangs
on the land of any country, and said that attacks
on Venezuela could start very soon. The US government has

(07:12):
defended a decision to repeatedly strike a suspected Venezuelan drug
smuggling boat in September, after criticism from human rights groups
that it was a war crime because the people on
the boat no longer posed any threat to the US
and also in the US billionaire Mike Dell from Dell

(07:36):
Technologies has pledged to make possibly the biggest single donation ever.
Dell has pledged to put two hundred and fifty dollars
in twenty five million children's accounts, making a total of
six point two five billion dollars. A big thank you

(07:56):
to Concepcion in Colombia for becoming our newest supporter. If
you enjoy this podcast and you'd like to have access
to our transcripts, vocabulary lists, worksheets and world news quizzes,
you can become a supporter at senseven dot org. We
give ten percent of our profit to the world's most

(08:18):
effective charities. Tomorrow you will be with Julia Martin. Have
a great day.

Are You A Charlotte?

Are You A Charlotte?

In 1997, actress Kristin Davis’ life was forever changed when she took on the role of Charlotte York in Sex and the City. As we watched Carrie, Samantha, Miranda and Charlotte navigate relationships in NYC, the show helped push once unacceptable conversation topics out of the shadows and altered the narrative around women and sex. We all saw ourselves in them as they searched for fulfillment in life, sex and friendships. Now, Kristin Davis wants to connect with you, the fans, and share untold stories and all the behind the scenes. Together, with Kristin and special guests, what will begin with Sex and the City will evolve into talks about themes that are still so relevant today. "Are you a Charlotte?" is much more than just rewatching this beloved show, it brings the past and the present together as we talk with heart, humor and of course some optimism.
