Shure MV7 & C922 Pro Stream (00:00):
Hi there and welcome back to the
simple SEO podcast.
I am Rachel Lindteigen, and I'mso excited to have you here with
me today.
Today, we're talking aboutsomething a little bit different
because I've gotten a lot ofquestions from you about
podcasts and how in the world doI name one?
Especially if I want to thinkabout SEO and how I might be

(00:23):
able to use that.
To get more traffic to mypodcast.
So one of the first things Iwant you to think about when you
are deciding that you're goingto create a podcast is to really
think about.
What you might want to name it?
Super helpful.
Right?
But what I want you tounderstand is that podcast apps

(00:43):
are search engines.
The same way that Google is asearch engine that helps people
find websites.
The podcast apps are searchengines that help people find
podcasts.
So when you are naming yourpodcast, you want to think about
the kind of terms or the kind ofkeywords or words that your
ideal customer might search forany podcast app.

(01:06):
When they were trying to findsomething to listen to.
So with that in mind, I named mypodcast simple SEO because I
know people are going to searchfor things like SEO, easy SEO
search engine optimization,Google SEO, et cetera.
And so I want.
My website or my podcast to showup in the podcast app for terms

(01:30):
that are related to SEO searchengine optimization, et cetera.
Now when someone searches.
They will find my podcast.
So that's the first thing I wantyou to really think about when
you're trying to name yourpodcast is what is your niche?
Who are you helping and whatwords might they be searching on
a regular basis?

(01:51):
And.
I know, normally we talk aboutchoosing a keyword.
That's not super broad andsomething that's more niche and
more narrow.
But when we're talking aboutpodcasts, we can actually look
for keywords.
That are bigger that are morecompetitive.
Things that we would never useon Google.
We can actually potentially usein a podcast name.

(02:14):
So I want you to think aboutthat now, when we're choosing a,
a name for our podcast, thereare some things that we want to
avoid doing.
We don't want to choose a namethat is super close to another
podcast or a name that anotherpodcast is already using,
especially within our niche.
We want to be able to stand onour own and be a little bit

(02:36):
different.
We also don't want to use one.
That is used by a, anotherpodcast that is not currently
active because the reality isthere are a lot of podcasts that
people start and they fade outand they don't use, but you
always run the risk of themdeciding to prioritize it and
come back.

(02:57):
Pod fade is real.
A lot of people start podcastsand they stop after 2, 3, 4
episodes.
Now, if you go in and you seethat, yes, there was a podcast
with the name that I want.
I knew it was five years ago andthey only ever published.
Two or three episodes it'spossible.
You might be able to use thatname, but I want you to really

(03:17):
think about that because whathappens if they decide all of a
sudden to come back and nowthey're using that same name?
And now you're fighting for aname that you've spent time
building.
Like it's just better to chooseone that somebody else doesn't
already have.
The other thing I want you toreally think about.
Is don't get super clever orsuper vague.

(03:38):
If you want to be discoveredorganically, you want podcast
SEO to help you get found bymore listeners than you need to
really keep it simple andstraightforward and use the
words that your ideal customerwould use and use the big ones.
Use the ones that people wouldsearch for a whole lot.
The other thing I want you tothink about.

(03:59):
Is don't ignore your audience.
If there's a way that you cantie your audience right in there
to help them self-select and seethat.
Oh, this podcast really is forme.
That's going to be beneficial.
So mine is simple SEO and it'sSEO tips and keywords and
helpful information.
For course, creators and coachesand online businesses.

(04:21):
Those keywords are all going tohelp my audience understand and
be able to say, I have an onlinebusiness.
I'm a coach.
I create courses.
I want to learn about keywordresearch.
I want SEO tips.
I want organic traffic.
Those are all keywords that arein my title because it's got the
longer title.
So simple SEO is what I tellpeople, listen to the podcast.

(04:44):
It's called simple SEO, butthose other keywords are in
there to help.
The podcast app, understand whoto show that podcast to so that
when people are searching for.
Marketing tips or organicmarketing or.
SEO for coaches, things likethat.
My podcast will also come up.
So I want you to really thinkabout, is there a way you can

(05:05):
weave your niche into yourpodcast name because that will
be beneficial for you.
And your audience because it'llmake it easier for them to find
you now, how do you know ifyou've chosen the right name?
What you can do is really thinkabout it, talk about it.
How does it flow?
Like, hi, this is so and so, andyou're listening to the X

(05:27):
podcast name.
Does it flow?
Do you feel awkward or stupidsaying it.
Do you feel like it works?
The other thing you can do iscreate mock up artwork.
Does it fit on a small littleimage?
Because remember in the podcastapp, you don't have a lot of
room to be able to showanything.

(05:48):
So it needs to be able to fit ona small little image.
And still say what it is sopeople can read it.
And then just kind of see howdoes it work in it?
You know what.
If you're not loving it.
You can change it.
You can adjust it just becauseit feels like it might be good
from an SEO standpoint.
Doesn't mean it's going to feelgood from a business standpoint.

(06:09):
And it's really important thatyou like your podcast name, you
feel comfortable saying it.
And you find that it works.
If you find yourself.
Stumbling over it or gettingcaught up on it.
Like don't name your podcasts, that okay.
And then.
If you do create a podcast ormaybe you have one now and
you're like, oh my gosh, I neverthought about SEL.

(06:30):
When I named my podcast, I neverthought about any of these
things.
I don't represent my niche.
My name is super clever.
It doesn't make sense.
It doesn't tie to my business.
Change the name.
Change the artwork updated inthe podcast apps.
It's no big deal.
You can make changes.
So don't feel like you've got tostart over.
You've got to try again, justgive it a new name.

(06:52):
And go from there.
It really is not that hard.
So if you've been thinkingabout.
Wanting to create a podcast oryou have a podcast.
And it's just not growing.
It's not doing what you want itto do, then make sure you get
the podcast SEO guide.
It's also going to help youfigure out how to name your
podcast, because it's going tohelp walk through like where SEO

(07:15):
matters.
How it matters and your kids.
It's and all of that.
So it might actually be helpful.
There's also a blog post onthis, on the website.
So if you have questions, youknow how to find me, you can DM
me on Instagram.
Um, and then just.
Stay tuned because the podcastSEO class is going to launch
probably in the next month ortwo, it's going to be really
fun.

(07:36):
So if you're working on yourpodcast, you're trying to plan
what you're doing or you'rethinking I want to create one,
but I haven't done it yet.
Don't worry.
We'll walk you through how to doit.
And then we'll, uh, Moreimportantly, help you get your
podcast optimized so that youcan start getting more people
listening to it, because thatreally is the bigger challenge.
Starting a podcast is easy.
Continuing a podcast, optimizingit and getting traffic to it.

(07:59):
Getting downloads.
Is the harder part, but gettingit started is pretty S pretty
simple and straightforward.
We'll get you started.
We'll get your podcast going andthen you can get more downloads.
Um, I went from 3000 little over3000 downloads in 2023 to over
15,000 downloads in 2024.
And I'm continuing to grow in2025.

(08:21):
And I want to be able to helpyou do the same type thing with
your podcast.
All right.
I will see you back here nextweek.
Bye.
For now.
