and list building.
(00:43):
How you can use your content inyour SEO to help you grow your
email list.
And then in time, we're going tostart talking about sales
funnels and how we create one inwhat we do and how we know if
the sales funnel that we'vecreated is working and is
profitable because I want tohelp you not only grow your
business, but I want to help youscale your business and hit all
(01:06):
of your goals.
So with that in mind, we'regoing to jump in.
Today's episode is SEO for solopreneurs.
So if you're like me and you'reyou're on your own, you don't
have a big team.
Maybe you hire a VA or.
Maybe you have somebody fromFiverr or Upwork or something
like that, that helps you.
(01:26):
You are a solo preneur.
My friend and most of uslistening to the podcast are, so
I wanted to dig into that alittle bit and talk about it.
I also want to let you knowabout a really special, exciting
training class.
I have not taught this class ina couple of years.
That is going to happen nextweek.
That's January 13th through the17th.
(01:47):
It is free.
I'd say five day website, traffic booster class.
It's going to be held in aprivate Facebook group.
You can get registered for thatat the link in the show notes.
And you can come in, join me,get a little more of my teaching
style.
Kind of see how things work, howall of this works, the changes
with Google, et cetera.
And then if you're ready.
(02:08):
Um, I would love to have youjoin me in simple SEO content.
We'll kick off the new year andwe'll get your website found on
Google and I'll show you how toput together a plan that will
get traffic to that website.
That is what we're going to workon.
So if learn SEO or get trafficto my website or show up on
Google are some of your newyear's resolutions for your
business.
(02:28):
I'm going to help you do that.
So make sure you get signed upfor that class next week.
All right.
Let's jump right in to SEO forsolo preneurs.
So I got this question recentlyand it's like, how does SEO
differ for solo preneur versus abig business?
And the reality is it's aboutthe same, but as solo preneurs,
maybe we don't understand whatSEO is or how it helps us.
(02:53):
As much as a large business doesbecause we're business owners,
but we're also having to learnthe marketing side and the
accounting and the finance andall the different things.
In addition to running ourbusiness, creating our products,
servicing our customers, etcetera.
Whereas in a large company, generally they're big enough
(03:14):
that they have specialists ineach area.
So the person that I would workwith when I was at the agency,
Who was the marketing rapper, the SEO rapper, digital rep.
It depended on the company forthat brand, had a background in
marketing.
They understood all of that.
So if you're sitting here andyou're like, I'm not really sure
what all of this is.
(03:34):
I don't quite understand, but Ihear it's important.
It's okay.
All right, I'm going to walk youthrough this.
I'm going to make it easy tounderstand.
So SEO.
Is very simply.
Uh, way for your website.
Your podcast, your social mediacontent.
To be connected to the audiencethat you're creating it for.
(03:56):
That's really truly what it is.
And I want you to think of itthat way.
SEO stands for search engineoptimization.
It is you working with thesearch engine to help them
understand what your content isabout so that they're more
likely to show you two morepeople.
It's really, truly that simple.
So, what I want you tounderstand is like, it's just,
(04:17):
it's the visibility.
It's, what's going to get yourcontent, whether it's your blog,
post your YouTube video.
Your podcasts, your socialcontent, whatever content it is,
you're going to optimize it.
For that channel.
Now, what we do for SEO is goingto be different depending on the
channel that we're working on,but it's all going to be
(04:39):
relatively similar.
In each case, we're going to usekey words and those key words
are going to be used in specificplaces, dependent upon the
channel.
The keyword you choose.
I will be different depending onthe channel that you're using it
for.
But I want you to reallyunderstand that when you do SEO
(05:00):
on a website, on a podcast, on aPinterest pin, on a YouTube
video, on a social post, you arekind of adding fuel to the fire.
You're helping.
That post take off that video, that blog post, that podcast.
You're helping your idealcustomer find you and find the
(05:22):
information that they need.
So what's really, reallyimportant.
It is not something extra.
It's not a nice to have.
It really is critical to youronline success, whichever
channel you're on.
So I always talk about choosingone channel and prioritizing
that so that you don't overloadyourself.
(05:42):
You don't get overwhelmed.
So, what you want to think aboutis.
Where do my people spend theirtime?
What do they do?
Do they read blog posts?
Do they listen to podcasts?
Are they active on social?
Like what's the main channelthat you want to be active on
and have that be your primary?
I generally recommend a blog tobe your primary.
Because that it really, inseveral ways, it helps you, it
(06:06):
can be the core of everythingthat you do.
The blog gives you the contentfor Google.
When you do blog SEO, then youhave the visibility for that
blog.
So you get more people coming inand listening to it.
If you do a podcast, like I do.
Then that blog post can actuallybe your outline for your podcast
(06:26):
episodes.
So right now I'm looking at myblog post on my website and I'm
using it as my guide for what isit that I want to make sure I
touch on during this particularpodcast episode?
You also can then use that blogpost for your social media
content.
You can pull snippets out of itand use that.
(06:47):
You can share it on Pinterest.
You can.
Create a YouTube video.
There's so many things that youcan do.
So I always recommend you startwith a blog simply because
Google is the biggest searchengine.
You're going to have the biggestpotential reach.
By really using SEO on Googleand really creating great
content for your ideal customer.
(07:08):
So, what are you going to do ifyou're starting with a blog
post?
You're going to want to choose akeyword that your blog or your
website has a really good chanceof ranking on page one for if
you're not sure how to do that.
I've got tons of resources.
I'll link a couple of them inhere for you.
On like SEO keywords and how tofind the right ones, then you're
(07:29):
going to want to use thatkeyword, not only in your title
and in your copy and in yourheader tags, but you're going to
want to use it in all of theother places that Google is
going to look.
And if you're not sure whatthose are.
That's okay.
Go to the freebies tab on mywebsite, etched marketing.com
forward slash freebies and getthe beginner's guide to SEO.
It's a step-by-step guide.
(07:50):
It's going to show you what allof these things are, what they
look like in Google.
And it's got a checklist so thatyou can make sure you've done
what you need to do for yourwebsite or blog.
Then, if you're going to createa podcast episode from it and
you want to learn aboutpodcasts.
SEO.
Go get the beginner's guide topodcast SEO, and that's going to
help you understand what to doto help your podcast episode,
(08:14):
get more visibility.
Now, your podcast keyword andyour blog post keyword are
probably not going to be thesame.
And that is okay.
Because what you can rank for ina podcast app is going to be
different from what you can rankfor on Google the guides,
explain the differences betweenthe two.
You're going to want to use yourGoogle keyword for your podcast.
Show notes, blog, post page.
(08:35):
So I refer to that as yourpodcast show notes.
Rather than doing a show notespage.
I do a blog post and I embed thepodcast video or audio clip
right in that.
Um, blog posts so that it'sright there.
It's got all the information.
And then I also do thetranscript of it at the bottom.
So you're going to do SEO.
(08:57):
On your website.
And on your podcast.
If you have a podcast, then ifyou're posting to Pinterest,
you're going to create pins andyou're going to optimize those
pins again, using keywords thatare going to help you get found
by your ideal customer.
If you were active on Instagramor Facebook, the same thing,
you're going to want to usekeywords related to that content
(09:19):
piece in your caption so thatpeople can find it when they're
searching.
You really want to think aboutyour ideal customer and what
words do they use, because thewords they use are going to be
critical that you use them.
It's critical that you use thekeywords that they use when
they're searching, becausethat's the only way you're
(09:40):
really going to show up whenthey're searching.
Searching.
So I'm going to show you how todo all of that.
You've got the blog post herethat walks you through it.
You also have, hopefully nowdownloaded the beginners.
Guide to SEO.
And if you have a podcast, thebeginner's guide to podcast,
SEO, those tools are going tohelp you so much.
What I want you to do also issign up for next week's free
