Speaker 1 (00:00):
Hello and welcome to
Simply Edifies podcast.
Our goal is to encourage womenas we navigate the messiness of
life through biblical studies, personal stories and practical
tips that bolster our walk withJesus daily.
Thank you for joining us in ourepisode today.
Speaker 2 (00:18):
Hello and welcome
back.
We have taken a long break fromrecording episodes, kind of not
intentionally.
We've just kind of gottenreally busy with some other
projects that we've been workingon and just life in general.
Summertime is always reallybusy, especially with the kids
(00:39):
doing summer camps and VBS andall of the things with church
and it just gets a little crazy, not to mention our time
difference yes, that makes it alittle bit difficult sometimes I
don't know how many times shesaid, hey, let's get together
today.
Speaker 3 (00:59):
And I'm like, I'm,
I'm at something, and she's just
getting up for the morning andwe're in the middle of something
.
It's just, it doesn't alwayswork out very well, true, true.
Speaker 2 (01:10):
So anyways, this
podcast is just going to be a
short little intro to what wehave been working on, and that
is a devotional called Issues ofthe Heart.
It is a 31-day Bible study thatwe have compiled together and
(01:35):
written and, as the titlesuggests, the devotions have to
do with root heart issues.
A lot of times when we're doingI don't know, when we're going
through a hard time, sometimeswe look at like all of the
surface problems like you know, maybe this person over here was
(02:00):
causing an issue with me and sowe kind of like deflect blame
sometimes on our surroundings orthe circumstances or the people
in the situation, and it'sreally hard to take a good look
at our own hearts in thosesituations and say, well, what
(02:22):
is my condition in thissituation?
What is my role, what is, whatpart does my attitude play in
this situation?
So these are just very shortdevotions, one a day for a month
, that kind of deal with some ofthose issues yeah, we've never
really been very good at onlyaddressing surface stuff.
Speaker 3 (02:47):
Even in our just
normal conversations we talk
about the weather and our youknow what clothes we're buying
or whatever, but it always seemsto come down to just spiritual
things and like deeper spiritualthings, like we just don't stay
on the surface very much.
(03:08):
And that's one thing I'vealways loved about our
friendship and some you know thegood friendships I've had in my
life that is like a homework ofthem is the fact that we just
dig in deep.
And I think that Christianwomen especially just need that.
We need.
Christian women especially justneed that.
(03:30):
We need.
We have that desire in us, butthe resources aren't always
there and the French, like noteverybody wants to have that
conversation, not everybody.
Some people are very content tokeep things on the surface.
It's just important to havethose times where we do a really
deep look at what is the actualroot of what's going on and
(03:51):
what's the heart, what's theheart issue and, um, some of the
divisions I was kind oflaughing as I went back through
them because some of them werethings that we actually a while
ago and compiled them.
So there are times where I'mtalking about my kids when they
were toddlers and now they're myoldest is 11 now but you know,
(04:12):
these things are just asrelevant, you know, when my kids
were, when we were in thosetoddler years which we've talked
about many times.
They were just as relevant thenas they are now, because those
heart issues just don't change.
Times change, situations change, but the heart of the issues
don't.
Speaker 2 (04:30):
Right, especially
when talking about relationship
issues in general.
Really, when, when it comes to,you want to get to the root
issue so you're not constantlyrepeating the same problems over
and over and over again in yourlife.
You want to get to the root andyou want to be able to say well
, really, you know, when I takea closer look, I realized that I
(04:54):
had pride, I had stubbornness,I had, you know, covetousness, I
had whatever, and that did playa role in in that issue.
And to be able to humbleourselves and just not have
those same repeating offenseswill just, in the long run, make
(05:14):
our overall relationshipsbetter.
Speaker 3 (05:18):
Yeah, we do.
We spend a lot of time justcleaning up, cleaning, uping up,
putting a bow on the surface, but it's kind of.
It's kind of like when you wipedown the cabinets and never,
never, clean what's inside andeventually it all comes spilling
out.
It's always when company's over, you know.
(05:40):
But people will find out whothe real you is, one way or
another, yeah if there's acouple of times my kids have you
know, opened the drawer thatthey weren't, you know,
someone's over and I'm like notthat drawer, like nobody needs
not that cabinet right.
(06:02):
But you know you wouldn't knowfrom the outside that there was
all the chaos that's lurkinginside um and I.
I recently this came up in um, aclass I was in and I just, oh
man, I thought this was soperfect and just so convicting
at the same time.
It says, um, this people drawwith nigh unto me with their
(06:22):
mouth and honor withth me withtheir lips, but their heart is
far from me.
That's Matthew 15, eight, and Ithought, man, I mean, that's
just, that's still so true today.
And we can all, if we've been,if you've been in church, if if,
even if you've only recentlycome to church, you can pick up
(06:45):
the lingo really fast, you know, and you can figure out what
makes you like, fit in to anextent.
But God, just that's not whereGod's heart is.
That's not what he wants fromus.
He wants our hearts, not ourlips and our lip service.
He wants true followers of himwho are willing to, you know,
dig deep and make changes wherenecessary and face the hard,
(07:09):
face the hard truth and cleanout the cabinets clean out the
cabinets is a good way to put it.
I have a couple cabinet projectsthat I've been like putting off
all summer, thinking like it'sgoing to magically take care of
themselves.
Speaker 2 (07:25):
So yeah, just a tip
there.
I have been paying my childrento do such projects for me.
I have too, but they don't evenwant to see the cabinets.
They're like no mom, mom, that, that's too much for me.
Speaker 3 (07:40):
I wrote, I wrote them
out, I wrote a whole list of
jobs that they could earn likeextra jobs outside of their,
like expected chores and likeyou know.
They could earn so much moneyfor each project and I guess I'm
gonna have to like up the antebecause it's not happening like
that's.
Speaker 2 (07:57):
It's too little of
money, mom, you gotta pay me
more.
It would be worth it to behonest yeah, yeah.
So that's one of the things thatwe've been working on and we
are getting ready to roll thatout.
You can be looking for thatvery, very soon here.
Um, we're to kick it off with agiveaway, with some good stuff,
(08:20):
and then the other thing thatwe have been working on is
another podcast.
However, it's for the youngones, the children.
It's going to be called SimplyGrow, and our kids are going to
(08:40):
be involved in it and it's, Ithink it'll just be a really
cute but effective way to get alittle bit more Bible into your
kids or grandkids or nieces andnephews life.
Um, they're not going to besuper long podcast, but they're
(09:01):
going to hit on like some bibletruths, some bible uh stories,
some verse memorization tips andeven a little bit of like a
missionary blurb in there too.
So even some jokes.
You may have even some jokes.
So, um, you can be lookingforward to that as well.
(09:24):
Yeah, all of these things, these projects we've been
working on, we're excited tokind of start rolling them out
here in the near future thebeginning of our kids podcast.
Speaker 3 (09:35):
We are doing, um,
pulling things from proverbs,
from our proverbs study that wehave available on amazon, and so
if you guys have purchased thator done that we used to from
the from long ago when we firstrolled out that book um, if you
so you might hear some familiarthings and that's from that's
(09:55):
where we're getting some of ourcontent at the beginning.
And so that devotional book forchildren is also on Amazon
right now.
It is, and which is nice, because for years we had a local
businessman who printed offbooklets for us and they were
(10:17):
nice.
They were booklets these are alittle bit more, you know, a
sturdier, more professionallooking, I guess you could say,
version of them, which is prettyexciting to see too.
Speaker 2 (10:32):
It is.
Yeah, so our devotion will beon Amazon and you can just look
up issues of the heart, uh, bysimply edify and it should come
up and you should be able tofind it there.
But we will be putting out thelinks and stuff on our Instagram
(10:53):
and Facebook pages and, like Isaid, we rolling it out with a
giveaway here soon and you canjust be looking for that and
we're excited to just get yourall responses about it and
hopefully it is an encouragementand it helps you in your
spiritual walk, because that'sreally all that our prayer is is
(11:15):
that you know we can just helpyou grow in Christ and just get
closer to him really.
So, like you mean, like simplyedify right.
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (11:30):
Like that.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
So, anyhow, that's
all we wanted.
Speaker 3 (11:37):
To come on and say
and hopefully it won't be like
three months before we haveanother podcast episode roll out
.
Speaker 2 (11:43):
But no, we'll pick it
back up here soon.
Speaker 1 (11:49):
Anyways, see you next
time we are honored that you
chose simply edified to be apart of your day.
