When I reached out to today’s guest, it felt like a shot in the dark.  After all, she’s pretty busy travelling the world having her own adventures and encouraging other women to do the same.  When she got back to me almost immediately with a “Hell yes!” I screamed out loud and did a happy dance that left me a gasping mess.

Kanoa Greene is proof that athleticism, strength and confidence can come in all shapes, sizes and colours. An internationally celebrated fitness trainer, yoga instructor and outdoor adventurer, she is creating space for plus size and marginalised bodies in the outdoors by redefining what plus size bodies can do, how they are perceived and where they can go.

This is really a story about being the change you want to see in the world.  Kanoa saw how plus size bodies were excluded from the outdoor space, both practically (gear sizing, access to equipment that fits, training that can be adapted for different levels of abilities and experience) and emotionally (what we’re exposed to via social media, fatphobia, the narratives that exist around what plus size bodies can/can’t do) and she became a woman determined to change the story.

We talk about vulnerability, shame, managing burnout, dealing with fear, being a role model, diversity, inclusivity, how to change the narrative, the power of being outdoors, surfing, skiing, rock climbing, yoga, how adventure helps us grow, getting comfortable with being uncomfortable, embodying the change you wish for, body positivity, self-love, self-compassion, dealing with negativity and MORE.

I was left wanting to go do ALL THE THINGS after this conversation with someone who is truly a beacon of light and positivity, and I know you will be too!
