Today’s guest is someone I’ve known for a while from my roller derby days, where I was usually skating away from her in terror and I’m super excited to welcome Chanie Hyde to Sisters in Stoke.
A digital marketer by day, dancing clown by night. Chanie has already lived about 80 different lives in her short 40 years, with no sign of stopping any time soon.
She's been a travel writer, budding TV star, local roller derby legend, and competitive eater. She is an Australian national hide-and-seek representative showcased in the Australian Sports Museum under the hallowed grounds of the MCG, to name a few.
Never one to say no, the eternal "Jack of all trades", Chanie lives life with a "try everything once" mentality (almost certainly fueled by hopefully soon-to-be-diagnosed ADHD).
Unsurprisingly, she has broken more bones than five people on average would break in a lifetime; if rehab were a competitive sport, she'd be on the podium.
A self-described "calculated loose cannon," it might surprise you to learn that Chanie preaches the benefits of rest and self-care. It's all about balance, metaphorically, of course, as anyone with that many broken bones probably lacks it physically.
We talk about taking risks, trying new things, defining what success means for you, dealing with fear, ADHD, neo-burlesque, self- expression, backing yourself, diversity and inclusion in the performance space, being aware of your privilege, allyship, celebrating your body, having fun, making space for joy, learning to set boundaries and more.
This episode will leave you pumped and wanting to try something new. I hope you enjoy this conversation as much as I did!
