Someone once said that “a man that’s never experienced the brutality of war, can never truly understand the meaning of peace”. While that might be debatable, one thing is for sure. War changes you. For Mark Nichols, at least one aspect of his experience in combat has changed him for the better. It helped him see the true meaning of life. It all clicked for him when he stepped off the plane with his unit upon their triumphant return from the Gulf War we know as “Desert Storm.” Seeing his comrades reunite with their loved ones and experiencing the intensity of that emotional moment changed his life forever.
