Rebel (00:00):
What's up everybody? Oh
my god, it's a holy crap. Did
(00:04):
you forget we existed?
Shove (00:06):
I forgot this podcast
existed.
Rebel (00:08):
I mean, it's skate date.
How can anyone forget itexisted?
Shove (00:13):
Um, I feel like people
have been commenting about how
they miss it. So, rebels whenlike, we got to come back.
Rebel (00:21):
I mean, we were talking
about it. And we knew that we
were going to come back inJanuary. It was just like we
needed that push. So everyonewho sent us a message or has
commented something. You helpedmake this happen. We're back.
Shove (00:36):
Yeah, thanks a lot. And
I'm skiing.
Rebel (00:39):
We really thought we were
going to be more put together we
thought we were going to havelike a whole like new music, new
intro, new setup everything. Andthat is coming. But if we waited
for that to happen, we wouldnever record
Shove (00:56):
who knows. By time you're
listening to this. It might be
new music.
Rebel (01:00):
I know. That is very
true. Anyways, wait
Shove (01:02):
a minute. I'm shove I'm
rebel. And together we are
shovel. Can you dig it?
Rebel (01:11):
I can.
Shove (01:12):
Oh my god, we still got
it.
Rebel (01:13):
Oh my god, we still got
it. Welcome to skate day. Skate
Day is a podcast by rollerskaters talking about roller
skating, but also talking abouta bunch of other stuff about
Shove (01:25):
roller skate. It's about
roller skates. I'm out of Oh my
god. It's been too long. I gotnervous. Oh my god, you got
nervous. Like we're on the firstdate. Again. So skating is a
podcast brought to you by rollerskaters. And it's roller skate
adjacent because we covereverything from the real world
(01:48):
to the real world. So when we goon to escape D, you're not just
going to talk about skating, you're going to talk about
what's going on in the world.
passions were going through. Wereally helped this a season
three and I really, actuallythis
Rebel (02:02):
is season four. Oh my
god, we stopped to mid season
three.
Shove (02:06):
That's why I felt like
that. Yeah, it's been a year
y'all. Sorry. I just want to saythat like, I'm really hoping
that we go into like, now yousee us in our living room, not
in our garage. It definitelylooks brighter. It looks more
inviting. It's in our home. It'smore comfortable for us. What am
I gonna be real? Yeah, one of mygreat hopes is that it's not as
(02:28):
structured necessarily thisfirst episode. We're just really
just catching up with y'all andkeeping it casual. But I don't
know, I just really want to belike, really open with y'all
even more so than we were.
Rebel (02:42):
Yeah, I totally agree. I
feel like we're very ready to
just be real and raw. And Iknow, we were already real and
raw before. But just we'veachieved a new level of not
caring what anyone thinks aboutus. So you're gonna get the very
unfiltered shove and rebel.
Yeah, like,
Shove (03:02):
for you listeners that
have been with us from the
start, you went through thewhole pandemic with us. So thank
you very much. For coming out ofit. A lot of things have changed
anything. I was starting myantidepressant journey, when you
last heard from me. Now I feellike I'm really in the thick of
it, like a lot of things aboutme have changed and for the
(03:23):
better. So I'm hoping that willone of the main reasons as many
of you probably know, from what, especially if you watch the
podcast on YouTube, I was goingthrough it, sometimes it didn't
talk at all. Sometimes I lookedlike I wanted to push myself a
rebel in the face. I never wouldwell, I want to put trouble in
the face. But I felt like therewas just like, the mental
(03:45):
illness was really kicking medown mixed with like the
pressure of like, working inschool and then the podcast and
then we were going hard inRebels YouTube, it was just
like, it was a thing. Yeah, itwas a lot. Yeah. And then on top
of that pandemic, and like justlife, so I feel like now me and
rebel talked about it. And Ifeel like I'm in a good place to
(04:06):
be bad. And I'm really thankfulto have a supporting partner
like rebel that can listen to meand hear me because I know she
really loves the podcast and itwas hard for her to give it up.
But even girl even you got alittle too busy. I want to stop
anyways. Yeah, I
Rebel (04:22):
got really busy for a
second.
Shove (04:23):
Thank you very much for
like being patient with me and
giving me that space and time tobe able to find myself back so
that way like I really want todo the podcast again. Because it
really felt like I was like itwas like pulling teeth for a
while.
Rebel (04:37):
It was I mean, yeah, of
course of course I would do that
for you. Like that's not even aquestion but I appreciate you
like saying that because yeah, the podcast is my baby. I love
it very much. And she was evenlike, Have other people do it.
I'm like, that's not the point.
Like the point is not to haverebel with other people. The
point is to have us like it'sour podcast. I would
Shove (05:00):
have been a fun podcast.
I wouldn't have been skating butit
Rebel (05:02):
would have been fine. But
it wouldn't have been spot as it
would not have been skate bait.
Shove (05:07):
Yeah, I've tried to go
back to old times today. And I
was like, are we really doingthe podcast today? Just because
I was tired. And she knows. Youtold me things besides you.
Makes me happy and I was like,or that she loves and I was
like, dang, what's so Bowie'schopped liver now?
Rebel (05:24):
Meanwhile, I'm like,
literally cuddling Bowie. I was
like, no, he's just a part ofme. But oh,
Shove (05:31):
it's January. Yeah,
Rebel (05:33):
it's almost your
birthday. Your birthday is
literally all of January. Butalso, it's in like, what? Three
days? Four days? It's on Sunday.
Or days away? Which you'll bewatching this after her
birthday.
Shove (05:46):
Yeah. Which means don't
worry, you'll get an update. So
should we tell them like thebirthday plans?
Rebel (05:52):
Oh, I definitely think we
should do that. But we should
also let them know how oftenlike skate days can happen and
go over the boring stuff boringstuff first, and then we'll go
into everything else.
Shove (06:02):
Okay. Okay.
Rebel (06:03):
So how often are we going
to put out skate date now?
Shove (06:06):
I'm bi polar. I'm by
sexual and the podcasts will now
be bi weekly.
Rebel (06:15):
Yes. So every two weeks
there will be a new podcast out
and we'll be putting it out onWednesdays at noon ish. Because
Clairol straight skates hasTuesdays at noon ish. So
Wednesdays at noon ish everyother week. No fresh, but it's
gonna be every other week. Yeah,I think that's all the
(06:37):
information they need to know.
Our email is still alive andwell.
Shove (06:40):
It is skate date.
podcast@gmail.com
Rebel (06:43):
is a thing.
Shove (06:45):
Anyone ever emailed us?
Rebel (06:47):
I check it periodically.
It does go into my inbox. Wellmeet your SC dear escaped
date@gmail.com I don't thinkwe've gotten an email in there
for a while.
Shove (06:59):
Did we have three emails?
I vaguely remember.
Rebel (07:02):
We had dear escaped
data@gmail.com We had Skype
date. podcast@gmail.com I thinkthat was it. And then we have
shuffle gets married@gmail.comBut that's different. There's
something give that away topeople. I mean, everyone knows.
What are they gonna do email meon a different? Like, it's
(07:22):
literally it all just goes to myinbox?
Shove (07:24):
Yeah, since the last
rebel asked me to marry her
back. Yeah, I knew what's gonnahappen. I got a very beautiful
ring out of it. Thanks. Thanks.
Thanks. Yeah, I know. We'rereally excited. We had an
engagement party. Yeah. A lothappened. You saw rebel skated
behind? Lizzo. Yeah, it broke myheart. But I was like, hoppy by
proxy.
Rebel (07:48):
And shove was for like
two seconds on the Lizzo. H live
SB HBO special Ryan with a pinkface mask on. So cute because we
were performing at the AMA's thenext day. Yep. That was why
Shove (08:04):
things have been
heightened pink. Yeah, I had a
photoshoot recently, but no onewill know about it until
February and I love talkingabout it. You know, NDAs are a
theme.
Rebel (08:14):
I also did something that
same weekend of the AMA's that
I'm not allowed to talk about.
Yeah, so like, so that's cool.
We're doing some things. We'redoing things we did. We did the
year.
Shove (08:27):
I got my first promo box
this year. It was a nice oh,
Rebel (08:31):
gel like three pairs and
I cannot believe I am the
sneaker head. i It is me. Shegot her shorts, though. I did.
They're very beautiful. It wasjust like one of those girls
like oh my
Shove (08:44):
god, who am I right now.
But anyways, um, yeah, it wasawesome. We are now in January.
So Happy New Year first happyCapricorn season every Capricorn
season. I almost want to belike, the highlight of what I'm
calling this year is 2020. Me?
Rebel (09:04):
Yes. What does that mean?
Well,
Shove (09:07):
it means me, me, me, me,
me. And by me, me, me, me, me.
It means you you, as in takecare of yourself. Invest in
yourself. Be selfish, not to thepoint where you're like throwing
other people in the box. I thinkwe're so afraid like selfish is
such a bad thing. But a lot oftimes we end up being martyrs or
like suffering and stunting ourown personal growth because
(09:33):
we're too busy worried aboutother people. How are we going
to make our job money? Rather, how am I gonna make myself
money? I come up with all theseideas to help other people be
successful. But I never come upwith ideas to help my own
business be successful. Like allthose things, like there should
be like 5050 Like it's split,you know? I mean, we're
(09:54):
podcasters
Rebel (09:55):
we're podcasters we're
back to it.
Shove (09:57):
Our new roommate river I
know last time you were like
y'all don't have a roommate theywere
Rebel (10:02):
now now we have a
slightly more visible roommate.
Shove (10:06):
This is river moseying on
in the back wave. They're pretty
awesome. Yes. Ran away. Sosometimes I think Bowie loves
them more than us. But no,that's okay. It's okay. I feel
like their siblings are like,BFFs. Yeah, they're like cousins
(10:28):
for sure. But yeah, so alwaysYeah, so it's 2020 me?
Rebel (10:33):
Yeah. 2020 me, I think is
just such a beautiful concept.
And every time I think about it,I feel warm and fuzzy inside
because I also spend a lot oftime just doing a lot of things
for other people and puttingother people's just wants or
(10:54):
expectations above my own dreamsand my own, like, what I want.
And so it's cool to like, feellike you've been given
permission to be selfish and topursue things and then just say,
like, Fuck you, if you sayanything to me about it.
Shove (11:16):
No, it's not true. It's
just like, I keep I've been
talking about it since likeNovember, I played like vague
posts about it on Instagram. Butto everyone I crossed paths with
since like, November, I've beenbringing it up to them like next
year, like it's the year like Ijust like my intuitions been
just like buzzing they can likefeel this like fire within me to
(11:36):
just be like, now's the time, which was like another reason
why it was like skate day wascoming back. The way I'm
presenting myself on socialmedia is changing the
investments I want to do in theskate community are changing.
Just all these little thingsphysically, like now, I started
going to the gym a few weeksago, and not like cardio, trying
(12:00):
to get skinny and all thesethings. But more like, man I
miss when I used to like weighttraining or like, do CrossFit
and I felt strong. And I missedthat feeling of like strength
and like, the power that I felt.
And now since I've been back, and I've been hitting the
weights, it's just like thisfeeling that I just feel like
even when I walk out and walkaround for the day, and I'm just
like sore, but I'm also like, Ijust feel differently. My
(12:21):
posture is better. Everythinglike I just want to like invest
into myself physically, mentally, everything like I'm
finishing school in a couplemonths, finally. Oh, yeah. And
March. Come on. Let's get herealready. Yeah, they'll be happy
birthday rebel and Happygraduation show. Well, yeah. But
I would like to say if you'reout there watching this or
(12:43):
listening to this, really thinkabout the things you've been
putting off. And now's yourchance, like, Why have you not
been taking those steps to makeit happen? And what is making
you like, feel really tiredevery day? Like, what is it that
straining and taking from youand taking from you, and maybe
cut off a little bit of that?
(13:03):
What's taking from you becausethings can't really take from
you unless you're giving itright? So I need you to like
take that back and give it toyourself. So that way your own
dreams can come true. I justreally, really hope that like
everyone kind of works on that.
And as I started like talkingabout it around New Year's, I
already saw a few people startedusing like 2020 Uni and I was
(13:25):
like, yes, it's happeningbecause it's not like, This is
mine personally, like no oneelse use it. It was something
that like I'm excited about I'mspreading the words to people
but I want everyone to use it intheir day to day life and not
just like say it and post aboutit. But like live it.
Rebel (13:43):
Is there like a hashtag
that people can use. I just
started spelling
Shove (13:47):
out because it's like how
do you spell it? Some people
have been putting in like thenumbers 2020 Dash mean, or you
just spell out like 2020 meet.
Evelyn was cute. And she saidlike the EU should be back up
should be a three
Rebel (14:02):
to zero to M three. Yeah,
that's cute. Yeah,
Shove (14:06):
so that's cute. Whatever
Rebel (14:08):
I love. I've already
started taking on the 2020. Me.
I started taking classes that Iwas have been wanting to take
for a very long time tick tock, goddaughter. They got me. I'm
using this like whatever appthing that gives me credits to
(14:30):
take random classes and randomplaces. Yeah, we're not going to
mention it. We're not going tomention it because they did not
pass. Bullies trying to drink mydrink. Okay, so last night I
took a striptease class.
Yesterday during the day I tooka flexibility class. Yes, did
you have something to say aboutthat? And then I took a
(14:51):
burlesque class and is that allthe classes I've taken? I feel
like it's
Shove (14:58):
as you mentioned, the mu
Muay Thai mood.
Rebel (15:01):
I also took a white Thai.
Thai, I think is how youpronounce it, I am unsure. And I
hated that one. But just becausethey made me work out. Like they
made me run around in a circle, and I was like, I hate this.
Shove (15:17):
Yeah, we're kinda I like
I like the pain. I told it to
hold Healy today. My Derby wife,I took her to the gym with me
because she was like, Oh, I'mlooking for a gym. I was like,
oh, use my free pass. Let's go.
And she was like, reallysuffering in the beginning. And
I was like, hey, you know, we welike to suffer so many ways or
hurt ourselves in so many ways.
(15:40):
Why as well hurt ourselves in away that, like actually advanced
us.
Rebel (15:45):
Oh, my. Wow, then
Shove (15:48):
she went harder. Ah, you
gotta manipulate the emos in the
language they know. Yeah, um, Idon't know, like, but yeah, my
birthday is coming up. I'm gonnabe 36 years old. I since I've
last talked to y'all, I foundout that like, along with a
(16:10):
really old skate injury I havein my right knee, I also have
really bad arthritis has gottenworse and worse. So it's like
bone on bone. It's just like, well, it was really, really bad.
And then I got a shot. And ithelped. But then I kept
overworking it. So it was like, still, sometimes I would feel
the pain. And now I feel likethe shot is starting to wear
(16:33):
off. But that's why I'm tryingto like weight train and build
muscle around it. So it won'thappen as much. Just getting
older, I'm gonna start talkingmore about stuff like that,
because there's just littlethings that like, your body
changes, and it gets harder, especially like being a skater,
and just existing in the world.
And like the pressures of beinga feminine body and getting
older and all those things. Fornow I'm good because you know,
(16:55):
black, don't crack. haven'tworried about that yet. But give
me four years when I'm 14, Imight be like, Oh, I'm dealing
with some stuff. But anyways,I'm like, super excited for my
birthday. I like to celebratemultiple times.
Rebel (17:12):
So what are we doing for
your birthday?
Shove (17:14):
Well, first of all,
today, I was talking to my boss,
I had to give him a ride to gopick up the work van. And he
asked me, What are we doing?
What are you doing for yourbirthday? And I told him all the
things that I'm about to tellyou. And he said, Wow, just
really going hard. And I said,Yeah, I kind of like to go hard.
Because when you're someonethat's tried to analyze
themselves, you really take moremeaning and to every year
(17:36):
especially like the happier youget every year that you're like,
hey, like it's a realcelebration of life to like, I'm
still here. So you really wantto like treasure that in a way.
So yeah, I'm going all out. So Ihave two of our closest friends
rebels best friends who didn'tget mad at me for me not saying
that.
Rebel (17:56):
Because they're my best
friends. Yeah, I'm
Shove (17:58):
not allowed to say that.
So Heather, okay, Project pinup.
So a lot of y'all know her. Shewas one of our first sponsor. It
was yeah, it was very cute. Andwe have Jessica catastrophe.
Rebel (18:12):
Who's never sponsored us.
No.
Shove (18:16):
I won't mention her
business just
Rebel (18:18):
getting hers or
businesses full Sun Studio.
Yeah.
Shove (18:22):
And you've if you read
Dog Days at all the roller skate
magazine, you've seen herartwork for
Rebel (18:27):
sure. She's a very good
illustrator. Yes. Graphic
Designer, illustrator. Yeah,she's
Shove (18:31):
done all the branding for
the queer is yeah, like,
Rebel (18:35):
like all the branding.
Yeah. Skates injuries of
Shove (18:37):
the course. Anywho. We
talked to them, like every day
on the app, Marco Polo, which isinsane. Like we talked to them
all the time. And they're flyingout from Chicago and from
Phoenix, and they're gonna bewith us for four days. And we're
super excited. And this tinylittle living room and my best
the best, the best friend of Mr.
Healy will be staying to thenights here too. And day one,
(18:58):
we're gonna go on a scavengerbar crawl Gavin and
Rebel (19:04):
have our call last year I
won. So everyone wants to know
the last time we did it. I'mreally good at scavenger hunts,
and then add some alcohol on meand I'm Extra Extra.
Shove (19:16):
I'm not gonna participate
in it. I just like to be
entertained. It's really fun.
It's
Rebel (19:22):
really fun. Anyways, I
collected like Kuwait,
literally. Oh, yeah. When like10 panties and bra. Yeah,
Shove (19:29):
because it's like 100
points. If you didn't give a
stranger's underwear. It's like200 If you get their bra,
because bras are more expensive.
And like, what's the chance ofsomeone giving them either like,
nice bra. They got like three?
Yeah, she was like they'rehanging from a purse.
Rebel (19:43):
It's actually really
gross if you think of.
Shove (19:46):
And so we're going to be
doing that and then we'll come
home and we're super rowdy andthen we'll be hungover the next
morning and then Heather's like,I want to make records for you.
Rebel (19:54):
So yes, there's like our
best friend and also our mom.
Shove (19:58):
Yeah, she's the mom. We
all wish we had And then we
wouldn't be so damaged. Shewould have helped us not have so
much trauma. Yeah. And thenwe're gonna just have like a
children and we're gonna do someshopping and take them all to
Long Beach spots. And then we'regonna have like a summer party
(20:18):
and I said, I only want to watchJohn Hughes movies. And rebel
was like, What's John Hughes?
Because I don't know directorsnames and I was like, John
Hughes, like I know a lot of ourlisteners are young. So John
Hughes is amazing. Amazing. Nowthat I know who he is, think
Brett, if you never watched like80s movies, please do so because
they're epic. Do a wholemarathon. Not Pretty in Pink 16
(20:39):
candles, breakfast clubs, evenseeing animals. Elma Elmos fire
even though that's why, like myleast favorite. It's still
pretty good. Alan came on later,I think but like Breakfast Club
is like one of my all time forus.
Rebel (20:55):
It's a good movie. I just
love Molly Ringwald also. Yeah,
Shove (20:59):
I had I had a friend
Priscilla that used to one day
she was like, You look likeMolly Ringwald. And I know
that's weird. Because like guyyou're black. But like you're
something like your face Yourlips. Like you get like y'all
look alike. And I was like,You're freaking weird. And then
one time I saw a picture of herand I was like, oh, at the time,
but this was way thinner. Idon't know. She's plus size.
(21:20):
Now. When I like see her with atan. Maybe I'll see it more.
Yeah, and then Sunday, we'redoing drag brunch because the
gays Yeah,
Rebel (21:30):
but before that we're
gonna do like crafts and like,
hang out and go shopping andshow Heather and Jess around
Long Beach. So I'm excited aboutthat. Yeah, potentially go
skating. If it doesn't rain.
Shove (21:42):
Yeah. And then drag
brunch on Sunday, because that's
what the gays do to celebrate.
I've never actually gone to adrag wrench for my birthday. Oh,
really? Yeah. It's my firsttime.
Rebel (21:51):
Oh, that's so I have. So
I feel every year. I'm like, You
know what I want to do? I knowyour address since we've
Shove (21:59):
been together. It's been
to drag brunches for your
birthday. When I've gone toother people's birthdays, drag
brunch. Yeah, we've lost so manydrag brunches. Yeah, that's just
a part of our culture. So I'mlike super excited to be like, I
get to be like, Oh my god, I getto walk up there with the drag
queen and your outfit is out.
There. The drag queens are gonnadrag me and I'm so ready. And
you're so ready. They Yes. It'llbe perfect. Yeah, I'm in a dress
(22:23):
insane. Because that's why now.
Yeah, I'm already extra. And soeverything will be super extra.
And then Monday will be the lastday we might go to the movies.
Because that new movie, Megan'scoming out and she
Rebel (22:36):
loves a scary movie has a
doll phobia. Like nobody really
is hearing. And I watched thatmovie. And I'm like, and she's
like,
Shove (22:45):
Yeah, so I'm ready. I'm
ready to get shook. Want to be
shook it shook it. I want to dieon my 36th birthday. No.
Rebel (22:55):
So yeah, I'm really
excited about our outfits for
the whole weekend. And eventhough I don't really have
anything picked out, except formy drag brunch,
Shove (23:05):
I only have my dog. But
Rebel (23:09):
we went to the plus bus
the other day, and we got a
bunch of really cute stuff. Igot my first IV Park. Okay, and
it's latex and it's blue.
Shove (23:18):
You probably like plus
plus what's that? So plus, plus,
don't worry if you're not inSouthern California, like in the
LA area, you can still shoppingI still shop online and they do
a lot of live sales onInstagram. So they do a really
Rebel (23:29):
good job of like, showing
you what it looks like rail,
Shove (23:33):
they hire models, and
then they haven't tried on
they're really like honest aboutthe fit and what they think it
could fit or fits too small. Andit's female owned. And it's kind
of like consignment store thriftstore like there's there is
forever 21 stuff in there. Butlike mostly it's high end, but
then it also has like a fashionbrand company and it had a hand
(23:57):
up quote Pinup Girl Clothing.
That's what this romper is ithad selkie all these amazing
things and it was just like IvyPark like rebel just said. And
it was just like super cool tosee because like you walk in and
everything's a size 12 and uplike up to like a 7x a twice. 32
like super awesome and so it wasjust like wow, like to have a
(24:19):
problem of like things being toobig and not like everything
being too small was so nice.
Like usually you're stuck withlimited options. So even though
it was kind of a drive it wasstill only 40 minutes which
isn't that bad and it was like areally cool experience the
people that work there a greatand what's super awesome is
we're gonna co host a
Rebel (24:41):
Skate Night a fat vape
Skate Night Yeah, they
Shove (24:44):
throw events usually like
they'll be like that baby blank
so they had like a thoughtthey'd prom. They had a beach
day. Yeah, the beach partiesalready have a bunch of the
beach parties. I definitely wantto go like now that I'm like,
gosh, I'm more comfortablearound them now because the
first time was like, okay.
Rebel (25:01):
No awkward the first
time. Yeah, like, we don't know
you.
Shove (25:04):
Yeah, but we've been
around them so many times that
like, yeah, so I feel like now II'm like, Oh, I look forward
like next summer I do want totake the drive out and like, go
to the beach parties and dothose things because they're
really fun. And so I reallyjust, I really just, like,
respect to the work they'redoing. Like they're like, the
sense of community and likegiving people like that bodies,
(25:25):
opportunities. Not only like forstylish jobs and like modeling
but also like a sense ofcommunity with having these like
gatherings. So the fat babyskate party or escape that
behave escape party will bemoonlight, and it's on the NG
it's on January 28. To date Imade up no 2028 Okay, so yeah,
(25:48):
so we're super excited aboutthat.
Rebel (25:50):
Yeah, I'm really really
excited. Yeah, and the people
who work there just so awesome.
And I don't know, the mission isawesome. It's really good.
Anyway, so yeah, so we have ouroutfits for that. So we're very
excited. It's gonna be reallyawesome. fun packed weekend.
Yeah.
Shove (26:06):
For rollerskating some
amazing things. One like me and
rebel were three inch widetrucks now. Oh, yeah. Like whoa,
why are we so anti like il
Rebel (26:19):
x what? Hi. And now we're
like, yeah, I have a wide truck
and a narrow truck Park setupnow because I like going back
and forth between the two
Shove (26:30):
homes. Anyone out there
heard of the LA Roller Girls?
Because maybe someone is nowaffiliated with them?
Rebel (26:39):
Is it I am an LA roller
girl slash la roller gay.
Exactly. I'm so excited. It'sliterally been my dreams since I
discovered that they existed.
Yeah,
Shove (26:51):
la Rollergirls have been
around forever. And they've been
around since pre COVID. Andbefore like the roller skating
like take off. They were
Rebel (26:58):
the ones who did like all
the roller skating
Shove (27:01):
gigs before. Anytime you
saw a roller skater on TV and a
music video at a concert.
chances were it was la RollerGirls. They did a lot a lot. A
lot of still do a lot. Yeah.
Like they were out like Who wasit? What singer was it? They ran
a Janet Jackson concert. Yeah, that's right. And then like one
(27:22):
of them skates for Usher. Yeah,it's like wild. It's insane. So
I open up opportunities forrebels. Super awesome. I got an
opportunity through rebelthrough LA roller. So super
awesome.
Rebel (27:37):
Yeah, so that's been very
exciting.
Shove (27:39):
Yeah. What other skate
milestones? Oh, we traveled so
much. Last year, when
Rebel (27:43):
we went to Bali. We went
to Bali. It was so wild with a
group of roller skaters. It wasso fun. We really skated in
Bali. And we did all sorts ofadventuring. And we went in a
waterfalls and we hung out withmonkeys. And we did a lot of
delicious, so much deliciousfood and drink delicious coffee.
(28:03):
And we're actually going toCosta Rica next year. So if you
want to come with us to CostaRica, you should sign up. I'll
put the link down below.
Shove (28:11):
Yeah. And that's links
also in our bios on our social
media. Yeah, we went to skatelove Barcelona. Oh,
Rebel (28:19):
yeah. Just skate love
Barcelona. And then we traveled
to multiple countriesafterwards.
Shove (28:24):
So now I can say skated
in Bali. I've been to Bali. We
went to Spain. We did Amsterdam,Amsterdam, then we did. Dublin
Ireland. Yeah. And we met upwith skaters in Dublin is super
awesome. It was so awesome. Wehad such a good time to the
largest skate park in theNetherlands. I was huge show bag
(28:47):
was amazing. And I went threemonths without roller stadium
and didn't didn't, didn't put myskates on for the first time.
Until we got to the Airbnb inBarcelona. Oh my god, and I am
literally I was terrifiedbecause I like my knee was
damaged. Or Bali. Like it seemslike off the plane. It was like
my knee was just jacked. And Ihad to literally like skate in
(29:09):
the little dining area to like, get my balance back. And I was
like, okay, I'm good. And then Ijust gave my fucking ass off.
And I was like, yeah. Which iswhy rebel had to push me in a
wheelchair in Ireland
Rebel (29:23):
in the airport. No, at
the at the time to get to add
Schipol Yeah, I couldn't shecouldn't do it,
Shove (29:30):
couldn't walk and then
she like got a wheelchair and I
was so embarrassed. And I waslike, what I shouldn't be up.
She was like, You shouldn't beembarrassed, like, you need
this. But my pride was likegetting to me. And then I was
like, you know, this is great.
She's just pushing me around. Ihad my little suitcase next to
me on its wheels.
Rebel (29:46):
Yeah. Some terrible
airport food.
Shove (29:49):
Yeah, but yeah, man.
Arthritis sucks.
Rebel (29:53):
Yeah. Yeah, so we did
that I traveled to Chicago for
24 hours to surprise I just sickcatastrophe for her birthday.
And that was the wildest 24hours because get this. It was
we went to the Lizzo concert.
Then we did the AMA's. Then Idid this other gig. And then the
next day I went to Chicago andturned around and came back and
(30:16):
the next day was Thanksgiving.
We hosted a Thanksgiving
Shove (30:19):
brunch, Yasmin, and then
we just booked or we just booked
our hotels rooms for rollingcalm, so
Rebel (30:29):
on. Oh, and we went to
Moxie skate camp. Oh, yeah.
Lobby went to Moxie skate camp, east and west.
Shove (30:36):
Yeah. Last year, we was
my first time coaching and going
into camp. It was so fun, but sotiring, because it was camp
West, quad or spring cup. Andthen camp ease and by camp ease.
I was just so tired and peopledown like, physically, so
exhaustively in my voice, and itwas like just raining the whole
(30:57):
time at camp. And like, I'm justlike, at least I'm more prepared
for it this year, because thesame thing is happening where
it's like camp, quad bleedingcup, and then camp again. Yeah.
But at least now I know what itlike really self care that week,
and I shouldn't be in school. Soby then, so like, oh, that
(31:17):
should be added rest. So we'llsee.
Rebel (31:20):
Yeah, it was really
exciting. I got to go and do
like social media. And so thatwas fun. So I'm hoping that I
get to go and be a coach nextyear.
Shove (31:29):
Yeah, I'm pretty sure you
all did you get this service.
Today. Yeah, some people votedfor not voted, but like
recommended people they wouldlove to see coach. So we're like
trying to like put our feelersout and see like, who who's
interested. Because one thing Iwould say as being the only
beginner coach, it was liketeaching beginner like skating
(31:51):
and like not even like the onlylike, Girl park when I was
teaching. Well, I did too. I didbeginner toe stop tricks, and
how to go down around forbeginners. But like my classes
were full, like so full ofpeople. And it was like, for me,
I it was easy, but I didn't feellike people were getting the
(32:11):
full experience they could havebecause they needed more
attention and more attention.
And like, I was giving everyoneindividual attention, but they
only got to do like two or threeruns. Yeah. Because like the
line would be so long. So that'swhy I'm glad like if you do end
up coaching because I
Rebel (32:28):
was like, I'll do
beginners. I was like I could do
beginners I could do Park Icould do dance, whatever. Yeah,
Shove (32:34):
that's like one thing I
noticed was a big ticket
takeaway. Just talking to peoplewas like, Oh, I wish there was
like, even more beginnerclasses. And I was like, Yeah,
we should make this happened. SoI'm excited cuz I feel like camp
just gets better and betterevery year from what I've been
hearing. And yeah, we got a goodteam. So it should be fun.
Rebel (32:49):
That's yeah, that was
that was a really, that was so
fun. I had such a good time. Andthen what else happened the last
year? I don't know. I don't evenknow. Last year was last year
was so wild. But anyways, here'sto yeah, here's some moving
upward and onward. Bully isstill extra loud. If you hear
(33:11):
snoring, you can't see him. Soif you are watching, you can see
him. If you're listening. Wealso have a skate date podcast
YouTube that this visual goes upon so you'll be able to see it
there. And yeah. So what else dowe need to update the people on?
(33:34):
Or what do we talk about?
Shove (33:35):
Um, I think that's it for
now. It was mostly just so like,
we're just gonna
Rebel (33:42):
wait, I have something to
tell the people. Of course, no,
it was a big thing thathappened. I finally boundary set
with my family. It was actuallynot like a fun thing that
happened. But basically whathappened was when shove and I
(34:03):
got engaged, like we had knownthat my parents were not
supportive of gay marriage, andit had not been an issue before
because they had always treatedus normally. Right. Like, it
didn't feel weird or differentor anything. And like when my
mom had told me that, like if wedidn't get if we were to get
(34:26):
married, that we wouldn'tnecessarily be like, like that
they wouldn't come to thewedding. And that had been
really sad for me, but it wasn'tuntil we did get engaged. And
then I went to my parents house,it was like going to tell them
and they literally like couldn'teven say congratulations. Like
they literally changed thesubject. Like no one listened to
(34:48):
me when I was telling them aboutthis very important thing. And
like I had gotten there rightafter shove had proposed and I
was wanting to tell them abouthow I was going to propose back
and like a All this stuff and Iwas so excited. And I was making
all these plans and like forthem not to listen to me at all,
I was like, actually shocked bythe amount of intolerance that I
(35:11):
experienced. And so as time wenton, like, I just realized how
hurt I was. And I also realizedhow much I was like, You know
what, like, it totally sucks, actually, that you actually
don't accept me for all of who Iam, like, you keep saying you
love me. But you only love partsof me, you only want me to show
(35:33):
up in the way that you expect meto show up, which is the way
that you experienced me. And Ijust felt like it wasn't fair to
me to be hiding part of myself.
And so as the year went on, Ijust didn't show up to things
because I was having a hardtime. Like, why would I show up
to someone's birthday? If theywouldn't show up to the most
important day of my life? Youknow, I mean, like, why would I
(35:56):
make the effort to come out forMother's Day or Father's Day
when you don't want to come andcelebrate my literal wedding?
You know, like, I don't know, Ijust like had a hard time with
it. And I just couldn't put itaside. So long story short, my
mom was like, Are you coming toThanksgiving? And I was like,
(36:20):
actually, like, I'm really hurt.
Mike, let me tell you all thethings that have hurt me and why
I feel this way. And then my momdid not respond well to that. So
because she didn't respond wellto that. I set that boundary and
was like, well, then I'm notlike, I will not be talked to
(36:43):
you that way. And you won'tdisrespect my fiance that way.
And then have me like, show upat Thanksgiving, like
everything's fine and dandy. Andthen there was still no
conversation had between thenand Christmas. And they were
like, are you coming toChristmas? And I was like, are
we going to have a conversationand there was no response. So we
(37:05):
didn't go to my parents housefor Thanksgiving or for
Christmas. Actually, we didn'tgo to any family, any blood
families anything. No. And wejust did our own thing for the
whole year. And it felt it feltI have mixed feelings about it.
I definitely felt happy that Idid not feel any negativity like
(37:31):
that, that we didn't. Like, ourrelationship is very healthy,
and like the people we surroundourselves with are very
supportive of us and everything.
And the family we've created forourselves is so beautiful and
wonderful. But it's also justlike the rejection of all of it.
I think I've experienced a lotof rejection this last year,
it's been hard for me to handleand so like, you know, we made
(37:53):
it almost all the way throughChristmas without me crying.
Almost. And then I lost it atlike 9pm
Shove (38:01):
because your mom was
petty in st you sound like nine
something pm and like, oh, yeah, talk to me. A lot.
Rebel (38:10):
Yeah, so yeah, so that
was wild. So I set boundaries,
and I stuck to them. And I amproud of that. But that's like a
big thing that's happened in mylife. So I that's one of my 2020
mi things is I'm really tryingto like listen to my heart and
soul about what is healthy forme. And like, understand that,
(38:34):
like people try and projectguilt as a defense mechanism and
also as a method of attackingother people. And so to
recognize guilt for what it is,which is just an emotion that
comes and goes you know, andsometimes it has meaning. And
sometimes it doesn't. And soI've been really trying. I've
(38:56):
been working with my therapistreally hard, everybody. Good
job. Yeah,
Shove (39:00):
I needed it. Friday.
Boom. Thanks.
Rebel (39:04):
And then today I dressed
up like a sriracha bottle.
Shove (39:07):
Yeah, she was wearing all
red sweat suit in a bright green
beanie that was lifted up. Soshe did well because the raja
bottle oh my gosh, Anyways,y'all, it feels good to be back.
And we all go back to havingsome sort of structure. I won't
always just be like this. Butyou know, we're just easing and
(39:29):
you know, it's a first date.
We're trying to get to know eachother again.
Rebel (39:31):
Yeah, I mean, I feel like
not that we're different people.
We're definitely not differentpeople. But we have evolved I
think a lot as humans. Andtogether we've grown we've had a
lot of experiences and I knowthat you've grown to and you've
evolved and so I'm excited tosee where this kind of journey
together takes us
Shove (39:52):
if rebel actually
remembers us little people
because she just had a tick tockgo viral with over I see a
million views on how to skate.
And well, I think just to coolfor us no,
Rebel (40:07):
I'm not I'm definitely
not. And I was very shocked by
that. And there are so many I'mjust not even I can't even go in
the comments. There's so many Ijust can't even do it. So we're
gonna just Yeah.
Shove (40:20):
Oh my god. Also, by the
time you watch this, I mean, or
listen to this. I hope if youhave not, I need you to run not
walk to YouTube land to querystring. Oh,
Rebel (40:33):
my goodness, yes. You run
a run to choreograph straight
skates
Shove (40:38):
and watch the Lizzo
tribute video for my birthday.
And it was a lot of work. Andrebel is an editing genius. so
talented. And it's super cheesyand fun and I don't know it was
(40:59):
just really nice to do somethinglike
Rebel (41:01):
creative creative and and
flex my creative editing muscle
like that in a while. Yeah, and
Shove (41:07):
I haven't like pushed
myself out of my boundaries in a
while and it was definitely partof the whole 2020 me that made
me like want to do it is like goahead and be like super vain and
release a fucking video. That'slike all you like putting
yourself out there for yourbirthday. Like yeah, let's
(41:27):
already extra Let's go nextlevel extra. Let's do it. It's
gonna be fun. I don't know like,I hope you see it. I hope it
makes you laugh. I hope youenjoy it. Yeah, it's a it's a
party. It's a party.
Rebel (41:40):
Yeah, I'm very proud of
us and our creative team.
Literally just me and rebel didit all literally, I was the you
were like the creative director.
I was like, the director, editor, camera woman.
Shove (41:57):
And when I tell you that
the budget for this movie was
$0.02 I think I spent a total of$200 for everything like things
I didn't have. Okay, maybe 200 Idon't even know if it was $200 I
don't think we're talking aboutlike we died blankets for an
hour. Yeah, but I had a by theDiana by the blanket. I had to
(42:19):
buy the bathing suit. I designeda freaking baby. Oh
Rebel (42:21):
my god. You did design a
bathing suit to look like
Shove (42:25):
Liz's baby. I had to buy
a red cowboy hat. You Yes. I had
to pay for the $30 to get intoJoshua Tree. Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
I
Rebel (42:35):
forgot that we I gotta
bail filmed out. Yeah, the
wedding. Yeah, but
Shove (42:40):
gloves already had the
dress. You bought the cake?
Yeah, it was a piece of cake. Itwas 50% off. It was expiring
that day had a candle. So therewere like things that like
definitely like if that's it. Soyeah, let's say like almost $200
so that it's beyond a lowbudget. That's why it will be a
no budget film. Yeah. But youknow, it's fun. It kind of
Rebel (43:04):
us who are paid actors,
and we aren't going to be paid
for it because it can't bemonetized. Doesn't get taken
down. No,
Shove (43:11):
I only hope not. Yeah.
And I really hope that she seesit. I hope so too. Even if she
does. I just felt like I'm gonnaconvince myself that she's seen
it. I think she will just didn'ttalk about like the internet.
She does like the internet. Shelikes the social means. Yeah, so
we'll see.
Rebel (43:28):
I think your best chance
of her seeing it is putting
parts of it on Tik Tok
Shove (43:32):
that, like at this point,
I now am like, you know, the six
degrees of separation. I amlike, two degrees of separation
of Lizzo through multiplepeople. It's gonna happen. It's
gonna happen one day, it's gonnahappen it's gonna happen. I
don't care if it's just passingby. Hey, girl, hey, girl, and
then I cry in the bathroom. It'sgonna happen. To many people
(43:56):
have been women fasting thismorning in my fasting Womb of
fasting. Like from the womb fromthe womb. Just a little a little
a little beam of an idea and adream and hopes and then that
grows and grows and grows andthen I give birth to it into
reality. Yes. That was abeautiful visual.
Rebel (44:19):
Hope you did not picture
that. Wow, sorry, I
Shove (44:23):
should have came with a
trigger warning.
Rebel (44:24):
Anyways, anyway.
Shove (44:28):
Anyways, I'm your two
favorite podcasters just getting
where we're bad. It feels goodto be back.
Rebel (44:36):
We miss you.
Shove (44:38):
We didn't miss you. This
was really fun. I'd be like the
new setup. I hope
Rebel (44:41):
you like how casual we
are. keeping it casual
Shove (44:44):
dress like this super
casual. Didn't just put makeup
on.
Rebel (44:49):
It put makeup on just for
this podcast.
Shove (44:51):
I did pull this wig out
of a pile and had to vigorously
brush it. So it was a lot ofwork.
Rebel (44:58):
Let's say you did it. You
did it. I did it. She's
literally wearing falsies foryou. We're here. We're queer.
Shove (45:04):
Get used to it. Just
kidding already. Anyways, it's
been raining all week. So wehaven't really skated. But we
hope probably where you are asthe same deal, but I hope so
bummed
Rebel (45:19):
because I was like, Oh,
no year like, I'm gonna skate
more often. And then it's beenso rainy. Yeah, like,
Shove (45:24):
so. Our skate date is
more like a skate maintenance.
Date.
Rebel (45:29):
Escape maintenance day.
Those are real though.
Shove (45:33):
They are you know, yeah,
that's a
Rebel (45:35):
skate. Skate adjacent.
Just
Shove (45:37):
like this podcast. Oh.
We've been together too long.
Rebel (45:41):
Together. How long have
we been together? We've
Shove (45:44):
almost five years.
Rebel (45:46):
On 222 22 No. 222 23 on
330 23. Technically, 318 23. We
weren't together even 3023
Shove (45:59):
people are like, stop
with the numbers rebel.
Rebel (46:02):
Sorry. Stop it. Stop that
right now.
Shove (46:05):
All right, y'all were
just like dragging this along
and just want to hang out long.
Anyway, just remember, you won'thear from us next week. You'll
hear from us the week afterthat. Because just like shove
the podcast is bi weekly that is
Rebel (46:19):
and share the podcast
with your friends because it
probably won't pop up inpeople's algorithms because
we've been gone for so long.
Yes.
Shove (46:27):
Hey, even if we're just
talking to each other in this
empty void, and no one'slistening. Well, it's good to be
here with you, man.
Rebel (46:33):
Thank you. Feels good to
be here with you. All right.
We're did we have an outro? Idon't even remember our outro
Shove (46:41):
is, but bye.
Rebel (46:46):
Bye, everybody. Don't
forget to subscribe to our
youtube please.
Shove (46:52):
Yeah, yeah. Let's go
Okay, bye.
