Rebel (00:09):
Hey, welcome this Gay Day. Lu. Escape D is a podcast
where we talk about the realworld in the real world, aka,
life and then roller skatinglife. I'm rebel. I'm shove, and
together we're shovel.

Shove (00:26):
Can you dig it? I can. So this week shove doesn't want to
be here again, but I'm makingher How do you feel about that
vein? I'm just really tired. AndI have a giant knot in my neck
and my back hurts. And I'mreally tired.

Rebel (00:46):
I get that this morning.
I've I had one of those daysthis morning, too. I was really
struggling to get out of bed.
And I was literally like, Idon't know that I am ever gonna
get out of bed and be happy whenI get out of bed again. And that
made me really sad.

Shove (01:04):
Yeah, here we are. Yeah.
I had to take a nap for a littlebit because I was like, I'm
gonna die. I wish I took a nap.
I'd probably be in a better moodnow. Yeah.

Rebel (01:13):
Well. So last week, we did a lot of fun stuff. Right?
Bam. We did. Yeah, we went tosee Taryn. Tina. Oh, yeah.

Shove (01:26):
Yeah, that was last week.
Oh, man. It was really cool, huh? Whoa, that is so crazy. It
was Wednesday that we haddoesn't it feel like already
Monday a year ago? Yeah. Idon't. Yeah, I don't know. I'm
tripping out. Yeah. It's been acrazy week. Yeah. There's

Rebel (01:43):
been so much stuff that's happened. But I had a friend
break their arm. Yeah. spent along time in the hospital just
hoping that they were okay.
Yeah. And we worked and we wenton a Skate Adventure on Sunday.
And we also skated and Saturday.
Saturday went somewhere. I've

Shove (02:04):
never been we went to Balboa. Yeah. At the blacktop
and Newport. It was really cool.
It's so beautiful. It's like ahuge area you can skate on right
next. Oh, so you just keptsaying Oh, Balboa beach. I
thought like Balboa was a placeso about a place but it's a city
of Newport. You know, a SignalHill is like Signal Hill, but
it's also low. Okay, so Baba isVal is Balboa but also Newport.

(02:27):
See? I don't know jack squat.
But we'll see.

Rebel (02:33):
Yeah, it's Baba. So Baba Peninsula is technically Newport
Beach. But it's Balboa Hmm. Iused that was my first job was
on Balboa Peninsula. I

Shove (02:46):
worked at a silver store.
I loved it. He's always talkingabout the silver story. Like so

Rebel (02:52):
much fond memories, but also like, what a random job.
Yeah. So we did a lot this lastweek, but it was still fun. So
it feels like a million years.
But also yesterday, since thelast time we hung out with you.
And talked about how much weloved and hated Valentine's Day.
Which guess what we're doingtomorrow?

Shove (03:14):
I'm celebrating Valentine's Day for real? Yeah.
But we know I don't actuallyknow are doing it's a surprise.
Shiva surprising me. So I'mreally excited. Yeah, all she
knows so far is that we're goingto LA for this light. Cool, I
guess I guess you could call itmuseum. It's like one of the
places where each room is like, decorated differently, like over

(03:35):
the top colourful. So like, kindof why I chose our black and
white outfits. And I know thatwe're gonna match. Yeah, because
we're gonna stand out with allthe pop art. I'm really excited.
And there's also a reservation,so do not take your time. Do not
be late tomorrow. I literallyI'm finding more out as we're
talking right now, cuz I didn'tknow actually some of them.

(03:57):
Yeah, you need to be ready at11:30am Oh, that's later than I
thought we're gonna start.
That's cool. No, I want to sleepin we haven't had a chance to
sleep in. So I'm 7:30am you needto be ready. I will be ready.
Wow, amazing day 1,000%. He'sdoing a bunch of stuff. I'm
gonna do a bunch of stuff that Idon't like to do, but I know

(04:17):
rebel likes or loves. Becauserebel, I keep telling him, I'm
gonna go for rebel and she's notready for it. And she's like, I
don't even know what that means.
And I'm like, You do like 12Days of Christmas and spoiling
me and you're like, do all thislike stuff and like, you give me
back massages. And you're like,Oh, let me just like, make sure
you do all this stuff and giveyou all the things you love. And

(04:39):
like you're the romantic and I'mjust like, I'll do it really
rarely, but I'm just like, yeah.
Like you did things that I lovethat you're like, whatever about
all the time, and for me, I'mjust like, let's do this one
thing, so that we'll both enjoy, but I'm gonna do things for her
that I know she'll enjoy andthen I'll be like, I'm doing
this because I love her. I'm soexcited. I am. I've never had we

(05:03):
haven't ever had a day like thisbefore. Yeah, I don't know if
our relationship will surviveit. That's a lie. Like, wait,
this is actually your way happyand I hate this all I do I love
you and I do. Opposites attract.

(05:26):
Oh my gosh, you're gonna belike, actually, I hate all of
these things. I'm like, damn, Idon't know you. And you can be
like, Yeah, this isn't gonnawork. That would be so weird.
Yeah, that's definitely not thecase. It's get a skate date. It
turns into skate pal. Thatsounds like I don't know, some
sort of like tech device. Skatepal. Yeah, like the skate pal.

(05:49):
Good for like, it's already anapp as soon as someone is
already there. Yeah, I made thatskate pals

Rebel (05:55):
game. I mean, I just feel like if there was ever like an
AI that somehow supported you asa roller skater, it would be
called skate pal. Anyways, soum, today Oh, before we tell you
actually, we could tell you whatwe're talking about. Today,
we're going to talk about socialmedia and like being on

(06:16):
different parts of social mediaand like virtuality and like
trends and stuff like that. Andthen we're also going to talk
about wide trucks. So get readyfor that. But before we fully
jump in, we're going to respondto some comments that we got
this past week. Y'all pleasecomment on our YouTube channel

(06:36):
so that we have things there.
It's fun to

Shove (06:39):
have to It's just we don't have to worry about
commenting. It's just if there'sa comment, we'll comment on it.
There's no comment we do that.
It's casual, but rebel trying tobe pushy, like last season.
We're not gonna be pushy withour listeners. Okay. Okay.

Rebel (06:54):
I like the structure but okay, so, the first one you can
respond to? You want to read itis right there. Um, it's from
this person.

Shove (07:07):
With two C's bunny thick bunny says, I love you guys.

Rebel (07:12):
Yet. That's funny. Yeah, I'm thick with three C's. Yeah,
thick with all the C's. So thenext comment is actually an
Instagram DM that we receivedand it's by grace WZ our wizard
dreams and they say dear skatedate, love, love, love the pod

(07:35):
and wanted to contribute to thenew obsession segment while so
while working from home. I liketo listen to YouTube blogs and
pods. And one of my recentobsessions is Fundy Friday, the
host Jen does their makeup whilediscussing a variety of
fundamentalist families realitystars, groups and cults. There

(07:56):
they snarling Lee deconstructand discuss fundamentalist
Christianity and other adjacentreligious sects. Anyway, I think
the channel might appeal to youboth and wanted to share they're
also on Instagram. Not sointeresting. Their minds will be
looser and yeah, I know but Ilove that they like specialize
it in like fundamentalistfamilies, reality stars, groups

(08:18):
and cults and make Fundy Fridaycould add it to my repertoire.
Yeah, we should check it out.
For sure. I think I would likeit. But I also think I'd be
triggered by it. So I don'tknow. Maybe I'll let shove watch
it first. And then she can tellme if I can watch it without
having a little bit of a panicattack.

Shove (08:34):
I love Colts. It was like what made me fall for this one.
This is she was like I was gonnacall it once and was like, Tell
me more. Now. I think I loveyou. You're definitely gonna be
my girlfriend one day. You knowwhat's so funny that I did talk
about that on our first date.
You talked about everything'syou overshare everything? No, I
don't over share everythingbecause they're literally
wouldn't be would it be possiblefor me to overshare 27 years of
life while I was on one firstdate. You weren't diagnosed or

(08:58):
medicated? So maybe, I don'tknow. I didn't do much talking.
That's

Rebel (09:09):
the main thing that I remember is you totally beating
my asset pool. And then alsowhen they brought me a tequila
and tonic instead of a gin andtonic, and I was like, Oh, I
guess I'll just drink it. And itwas so gross.

Shove (09:28):
Yeah, anyways, so and I remember talking about, like,
the cult I was in and then Iremember being like, maybe I
shouldn't know talked about thaton a first date.

Rebel (09:40):
Anyways, so um, yeah, so those are comments. Today we
have a little bit of an ad. DDaddy, Daddy, Daddy dad, and it
is shove so why don't you goahead

Shove (09:59):
Wow. Oh, I didn't even know I had today. Thanks me for
writing it down and pointing outa notebook. So I could tell the
people, all the lovely news. Myshop is a failure. So I'm
putting everything on failure isnot a failure. Okay, so I have
decided that my life and mymental health is not does not

(10:20):
have the room to ship things outanymore, personally. So it's
moving to dropship. But untilthen, all of my stickers and
prints will be 60% off atcheckout, you'll see it's taken
off so I'm just doing a blowoutsale and getting rid of
everything. Holy macaroni. Yeah,so head on over to fat soon

(10:43):
fetal dot. Yeah, so she washaving a big sale. So you should
go shop her shop becauseliterally you could get like, so
much stuff for like, actually, like so. So, so cheap. Yeah, I'm
like, not even kidding. She'sjust going to look at anymore.
It's depressing. Yeah, she'slike, I don't want to run a shop

(11:03):
anymore. That was a manic thing.
Maybe? Maybe not. I don't know.
But I think it was. Yeah. So itwas a manic thing that I had to
pain for for a very long time.
Yeah. So that's our ad. So nowlet's go into the real world.

Rebel (11:36):
In the real world, we talk about all the things that
we want to talk about. And todaywe're gonna talk about social
media and and how weird it is,and the evolution of it. And
like, how weird it is. Okay, sowhat I really wanted to talk
about is, how weird is it thatlike, in our, like, adult
lifetimes, or whatever, like, there have been so many

(11:57):
different, like, primary socialmedia platforms, and we've been
on so many of them. Like, I justthink that's so crazy, cuz we're
old. No, I know. But like, we'rethe first generation that's been
on like so many social mediaplatforms. For us. It didn't
exist, right? Like theyliterally started with our

(12:18):
generation. And so it's justlike, so wild to have
experienced all of that. Yeah.
Like you literally started as aTumblr queen. No. What? Oh,

Shove (12:30):
MySpace, you started on MySpace. My wait was Tumblr
before MySpace or after MySpacesimultaneous? Well, before my
you had, oh, my God was theblog. One. Was it called
blogger. I think it was calledblogger. So you had like the
blogging one first, but I wasn'ton that. But I had friends on
there. Then MySpace became likea huge thing. So I didn't even

(12:54):
have a computer yet. So Icreated my MySpace page on my
friend's computer. And then Iwould check it after school all
the time. And then like the thatyear later on, my dad finally
got a computer for the house.
And I became obsessed. So I wasa MySpace scene queen for a
really long time, right afterhigh school. And I don't like I
think like I was in groups, butit was more like subculture

(13:17):
subculture. Like, so bad. TheKKK color kids of color. Oh CME
Group on MySpace. So it was allblack sea kids. And it was like,
we're it was okay. It was adifferent time of the year was

(13:39):
2007. I thought it was fun.
Yeah, it was ironic.
So yeah, and in that, I feltlike it was like, Yeah, we got
around, like, the hair themakeup rawr rawr. Um, yeah, it

(14:04):
was a thing going on, likeMySpace, like, follow chains and
stuff. Man, that was a littlething. Yeah, but then Tumblr was
like, the first time I think, like, I was like, Oh, shit,
like, a lot, a lot of notes, lots of notes. I remember they
were called notes. So like, likes and reshares. And, you
know, I did like the artsy nudesand like the poetry and like,

(14:26):
talk, like, go into Tumblr andread their Tumblr where I'm
like, Oh, you are crazy. You'vebeen crazy. Because since I was
like, a live blog, and I wasbrutally honest, and just like
the ups and downs and like kindof seeing the flow, and like,
how things are repeating. Like, when I look back at it, it's
like, Ooh, this is hard to lookat. I actually got locked out of

(14:50):
my Tumblr, but I can still likelook it up because I remember
the name and so I can read it aslike just someone looking at it.
And I'm just like, She's crazy.
You're just putting everythingout there for the world. Didn't
you have when we first starteddating? Didn't you still have a
Tumblr that you were using? Istarted another one. And then I
decided my heart wasn't in itthough. Because by then,

(15:11):
Instagram had my heart.

Rebel (15:16):
Instagram really had still in your heart for sure,
for sure. Mm hmm. Did you feellike, I don't know. Like, do you
feel like there was kind ofsomething that that was sparked
in you when you were on MySpace?
And that kind of stayed withyou? Or do you think,

Shove (15:37):
well, Myspace? I think the reason like that never blew
up. And I was never like, oh,never see, like, as much as
like, oh, cinquain cuz I waslike, in the same boat wasn't a
scene queen. I was just a scenekid. And that was mostly because
I didn't know who I was yet. Itwas more like, I got to look
like all these other people.
Like, I yield my eatingdisorder, because there were so

(15:59):
many, like, teeny tiny seeinggirls and like, so I would want
to look like them. So like, itwas like my inspiration like
making my big hair and likehaving a pale face and like not
eating and being like, lookinglike unhealthy fit in with
looking seen. And like it wasmore like just repeating like,
oh, they did their makeup thisway. So I'm gonna do my makeup
this way. Um, they do that. Soit was kind of like a way to

(16:21):
like the bad social media whereit was like, I just want to look
like everyone else. By timeTumblr came around, it was more
like creative for me.

Rebel (16:32):
I wasn't really like I was definitely on MySpace. And
that was for sure. My firstsocial media. I mean, I had a
Blogspot. And like, I was onBlogger, but it was kind of just
like, you know, touching go,whatever. But I on MySpace, it
was definitely more like, justlike friend centric. It was

(16:52):
never reaching outside my socialnetwork that I knew in real
life. And I never was on Tumblrfor real, like, I think I maybe
had one. But I was never likefully in to it. And I think that
that's because the time that Iwould have been into it. I was
in the cold where I wasn'tallowed on social media or

(17:13):
anything like that. And then Ihad a Facebook, and I remember
being like, oh my god, I have somany like, friends. I had like
3000 friends. And that was a lotback then. And but it was never
I think it's same concepts. LikeI didn't really know who I was.
And so how can you possiblyreally be a leader when you

(17:37):
don't really have your own?
Like, anything to? I don't know, like, what are you posting if
you don't really know what youlike, or want or anything like
that. So I think that'sdefinitely where I was. And then
yeah, I don't like it's soweird. There's like a gap for me
between

Shove (17:54):
Did you ever like, get a partner out of MySpace?

Rebel (17:59):
No. So um, for me my space. I never really met
anyone. I met people like, onchat rooms. Like in chat rooms.

Shove (18:13):
Yeah, I met like, three boyfriends off of MySpace. I
forgot aim. Does that count as Imean, it's not a social media.
But remember a messenger though?
No, we got to take it way back.
Okay. Before, but internet waslike a huge thing. And like a

(18:36):
lot of people had computers, especially if you were in
poverty, as I was like, it wasrare to have a house computer.
So our social media where youwould like chat with strangers
and go into rooms was the partyline. So the party line, we had
the loop, I think it was calledthe loop. And the number would

(18:58):
be written on desk in school, orlike in the bathroom. And it was
this number you called and youput in a number and you had like
your mailbox, it was totallyfree to. And different numbers
were different rooms like numberthree might be the punk room
number four would be like theMexican room. Number five would
be the black room. And it waslike almost everyone in Compton

(19:21):
knew in kind of surroundingareas knew about this and it was
like mostly it was always kindof crammed down because like, we
assumed it was all teenagers.
But definitely there were likefor sure. I definitely like did
some shady shit with someone Iwas like you're not a teenager
like me. But like you would meetup not like you would meet up in

(19:41):
the chat room and you just talkto people but you weren't like
live chatting. You like puttheir number and like everyone
would be leaving things like hitme up number blah, blah. And
then so someone would just slideinto your inbox and then say
something and then you wouldkeep talking voicemail to
voicemail And then you could belike, Oh, okay, let's meet up.
And then you had a private chatand you just talked together and

(20:04):
you decide if you wanted to givethem your phone number to, like
have a normal conversation ornot. And then you'd sign on to
the party chat, it would leave, check your mailbox. And like,
sometimes someone would leave asong for you. And you wouldn't
know who it was. Or if theydidn't say so you don't mind.
And if that was like, theoriginal, like, social media, oh

(20:24):
my god, imagine if nowadays, people had to do that for
social. Yeah. And then it's likewhat you were talking about,
like I did Yahoo chat rooms. Sothat was going to internet cafes
and like, or if you did at home, and you would just go into chat
rooms and chat with people.
Yeah, I don't remember if it wasYahoo chat rooms, or just chat
rooms in general that I used togo into, but just random chat

(20:47):
rooms, but like, it's dangerousas all those words. So that was
it, like built up on like, andit was interesting that way. Now
it's like another kind of dangerwhere it has that as well. But
now it's like, investingyourself and how many likes you
have and followers you have? Andlike so that's what's reliant?

(21:07):
And that's when we're talkingabout like, my sweet friends and
Facebook friends and humblernodes and Instagram likes and
follows. Yeah, yeah. And Tik Tokso wild. Yeah. So then it was
just kind of like, well, thenSnapchat was like, in between
Facebook and Snapchat felt likea party line to me. But with

(21:31):
videos instead of voicemails.

Rebel (21:34):
Yeah, I never was like trying to get a claim on
Snapchat. Not that I've everbeen trying to get a claim. It
was points, remember? Oh, yes.
Do you and there was also like, streaks that you would get?

Shove (21:47):
Yeah. And then it was like, then everyone remember,
everyone had like a VIP snap?
Oh, yeah. Oh, my God, when youfound out you could send someone
money. And then I was like, okay, like, but I don't know,
Snapchat was fun, because it waslike filters. Because I was
like,

Rebel (22:06):
Yeah, that was what it was all about. I think Snapchat
was the introduction of like, the wild filters, or at least
the flame that catch that caughton to society. Cause like, no
tick tock. And

Shove (22:17):
it's to me like Instagrams, the biggest monster
because it sees other thingsthat are thriving are that
people like, and then they justkeep adding it to their app?

Rebel (22:28):
Well, because Instagram is literally Facebook. Yeah,
mega, whatever. Ubers. Well, Idon't know. I think that that I
think Metaverse is going to bethe next big thing after Tik
Tok. And I think that that'sgoing to be really fascinating
and weird. And I don't I don'tunderstand it yet. But

Shove (22:45):
yeah, and like you're now you're moving a lot of your time
and energy to tick tock.

Rebel (22:51):
Yeah, I so I just feel like I'm at home there. I don't
know how to describe like, solike, I saw tick tock this
morning that someone was like, there's a I've been watching a
lot of like, big time Instagram, like influencers, meaning like
people with like, millions offollowers or, you know, 1000s of

(23:13):
followers or hundreds of 1000s,whatever, come over to tick tock
and fail. And the reason why isbecause tick tock like isn't
about an aesthetic, like, ticktock is literally about having a
personality, and like, and likebeing entertaining, and like
keeping people around becausethey want to be friends with
you. Like they want to knowabout you. Because tick tock

(23:33):
really is like you post so manytimes a day, because like,
that's what the algorithm like.
So a lot of the content is justlike, blah, blah, blah, blah,
blah, blah, blah. And then youjust like post it. And I feel
like I feel seen when I'm onthere. Like it just feels like
the stuff that I would say in myInstagram stories. I'm now just
turning into tiktoks and likeputting it on there interesting.

Shove (23:58):
That probably better for me because like for me, I was
like, don't ask me about any ofthe features and how to record
or do anything in there. Likeall put some little edits up
there and upload it and that'sall I got. And to know, like how
far my tic TOCs come is like, Idon't know, let's unbeknownst to
me, it's just like, it's it'sdoing well, it's there. Like,

(24:21):
I've literally been paid to do atick tock before and I'm like
really like tick tock. I don'tknow anything about it. And then
I'm like, wait, maybe myfollowers like count because I
feel like on tick tock. You haveto have a million followers.
There's nothing on Instagram,you have like 10,000 It's a huge
deal. But if you have like10,000 on tick tock that's like
nothing like I don't it's weird.
It's weird. It's really weirdbecause the Tick Tock algorithm
is a interest based algorithm asopposed to a like,

Rebel (24:52):
like, it's not like the way that you are receiving
things in your for you pageisn't based off of who you
follow. It's based off of whatyou're interested in. And so
that's why it's so different.
Like, you can get a bunch offollowers and, or people can
follow you and they're not justgonna see your stuff in their
feed, they're only going to seeyour stuff in their feed if

(25:12):
you're also putting out stuffthat they're interested in. So
it's like really interesting andtotally different. The way that
it's the way it works is justdifferent than other social
medias. So it's less pressure. Ithink, like, I don't feel bad if
I put up something that doesn'tmean anything, because nobody's
gonna see it. And I'm like, okay. Yeah, I get that. But

(25:33):
yeah, so I don't know. So I'vebeen doing Tik Tok a lot
recently, and I've been having alot of fun with it. I also just
think that like, how for now, Ithink tick tock is where it's
at. I don't know how it couldpotentially, like, monetize, or
what it could potentially leadto. But I just feel like there's
a lot of potential there becauseit still is so new. Like, it's

(25:56):
only a few years old. Still, youknow,

Shove (25:59):
we thought about a big we forgot about a big one that's
big for you. Well, YouTube. Oh,yeah. And we also forgot about
Twitter. And, like, read Redditand stuff. Yeah. But

Rebel (26:11):
there's, I mean, there's so many so much. We're just
gonna talk about like, whatYeah, yeah, YouTube is a big one
for me, for sure. And I loveYouTube, I love long form
content, I love creatingsomething and feeling like I'm a
TV show host, which is basicallywhat YouTube is, you know, it's
like little, little TV showsthat you're creating, and you

(26:33):
like, put up content every weekat a certain time, and people
go, and they watch your contentthat you've created. And I love
it, it's created a community forme in a way that I've never
successfully created a communityfor, like, I definitely feel
like YouTube is the place thatI've been the most successful
and that I've thrived the most.
And I love it there. And I willprobably stay there for a very

(26:56):
long time. Because I feel likeYouTube is one of those ones
that aren't gonna fade away. Ifeel like it's gonna kind of be
a pillar for a while, in thesame way that Google is like a
pillar of a search engine. Sobut that's just my personal
opinion. But yeah, I really likeYouTube.

Shove (27:15):
I feel like the social media, it's like fun. And then
like, there's a purpose for meto use it now. Like, I love
being able to spread a messageto people or just being that
representation. But I'm like, Idon't know, like, I know, like,
I should care and like, followthese things and try to trend
more and things like that, because it gives me a bigger

(27:35):
platform, but at the same time, like, I just do it. I'm just
doing things whenever I feelcreative, make it fun. Don't
make it too serious. Like ifit's how you want to, like get
that bank then yeah, you got tobe serious about it. But at the
end of the day, it's just socialmedia. It's not real life. Don't
give in to like having to be onyour phone on social media. When

(27:56):
you have real friends rightthere. It's okay to not be glued
to your phone like it's okay.
Yeah. And I feel like that'sdefinitely been a trend for you
recently, where you're just kindof like yeah, met on social
media. Past like year, do youthink that there's something
that happened that caused you tofeel that way? Probably. Do you
know what it is? Probably somesort of trauma? Yeah, for sure.

(28:21):
Trump probably got attacked onsocial media, and then my eye
twitch. And I was like, fuckeveryone. Yeah. You don't
deserve to see me, like on hereanymore. I don't know. Like, no,
I think like, I do remember whatit was. I did shrooms for my
birthday last year. And one ofthe things that like started

(28:46):
giving me a bad trip wasthinking about I was thinking
rebel was recording it forsocial media and like putting it
and I remember thinking like, why is she recording right now?
Like, this is like not the time?
Why is the camera always onwhy's everything have to be on
social media. And then Iremember being like, Bitch,
you're tripping. It's kickingin, like camera's not on right

(29:08):
now or even set up. And thenthat was like the underlining
thing I kept thinking about. Andthen when I came out of it, I
was like, I don't want my lifeto be just social media. I want
to be able to let things go andlive in the moment and not like
everything needs to be like,Look at me in my Instagram
stories, or let me post this andpost that. Like something can be

(29:28):
just for me. And there are somethings I want to share with the
world because it is so special.
And I want to have thosememories. But for the most part,
like I'm just like, I'm good onit. Like I don't need it to be
like, I don't need to be on andhave like my phone on all the
time.

Rebel (29:45):
Yeah, I definitely feel like recently I've been more
into social media than I hadbefore. But in a different way.
I feel like I put a lot lessvalue in it. Like, I'm not
concerned if my following goesup or down. And I'm not really
paying attention to numbers, because what I've learned over

(30:05):
the past couple years is thatnumbers don't matter. And they
don't contribute to like successor money necessarily. I mean,
they do, they're a factor. Butlike, if you're good at content
creating, like, I don't know, Ijust I have seen it in a totally
different light. And the lightthat I've seen it in is like,

(30:29):
oh, like, I want to go intomarketing. Like, I'm already in
marketing. I am in the field ofmarketing. And I'm in the field
of like, content creating andthat kind of stuff. And that's
something that I really, reallyenjoy. And totally seeing it
through this like work baselens, as opposed to like me
trying to succeed at it in apersonal way is so much more

(30:55):
interesting to me. And so muchmore healthy for me to like,
nowadays, I'm doing a bunch ofcontent creating, but it's not
for my personal stuff. It's likefor, like people that I work
for, and that's been like, there's no, there's no me
attached to like value, like theMy identity is not in tied to

(31:20):
the value of said piece ofcontent. And that feels really
great. And like allows me to becreative, without having to feel
like I need to check and see ifit's doing well. And if it's
doing well then I'm like, I'minteresting to people or not or
whatever, you know. Does thatmake sense?

Shove (31:39):
Yeah. Okay. I'm over social media as we move to the
next one. Sure. Okay. Now we'rein the wheel world, the wheel

(32:03):
where it was where we talk aboutroller skating, and today we're
going to talk about why Chuck's?
Why truck hype, conch,

Rebel (32:11):
that kind of white truck, I mean, if you want a double,
double wide we could talk whytruck? No, we're talking about,
like, when you have a rollerskate, there are trucks on your
real estate and the trucks areattached to the plates and the
trucks are what your wheels areattached to. And so there are

(32:33):
narrow or like standard trucksand then there are a wide
trucks. Yeah,

Shove (32:39):
like we're talking about the the hangar parts
specifically. They a lot. Rightnow, there's not too many that
are meant for roller skates, like for every roller skate,
like there's a Sure Grip one butit's super fucking tall. So if
you want to like skate, likeyou're in platforms, that can
work for you. A lot of peoplelike to be more agile and lower

(33:01):
to the ground. And for that, like a lot of times plates will
be a little heavy or like thepenny trucks you can't really
find at the moment because theydiscontinued them. Oh, like I've
seen them on eBay, eBay orthey're like resell they're like
super, super expensive. Yeah, like super expensive. I looked
into that. I was looking at themfor a while and I was like, why
are these all so much money?
Yeah, and then it's just likethere's the ridge ones but I've

(33:25):
heard mixed things about them.
And the thing is like rages alsolike for skateboards, pennies
from the skateboard. Then youhave the disco tracks but then
there's like a lot of mixedreviews on those are too many
positive ones. So like we don'tknow or we don't talk about it.
And then there's amongst youwhat trucks which like is hard

(33:46):
to come by right now but comingback soon. And like I have those
right now on my lollies, but Idon't have them on a park setup
yet. I have mine I have whattrucks on a park setup and I
freaking love them. Yeah, boileralert. She put them on our

(34:07):
skates and then use them forever.

Rebel (34:09):
I was so scared. I was so scared. I don't know why I was
so scared. But I was I wouldfall over why do you like them?
No. So the reason why I likethem now is I feel like they
ground me a bit. But then alsothey allow me to like jump
higher and be more aggressivewhile I'm skating because

(34:31):
landing is easier. I also likethat they're allowing me to try
not that you can't you cantotally grind and like go on
ledges and like do all that kindof stuff with narrow tracks. But
I have always been nervous havethat and I know that why trucks
makes it easier. So now that Ihave wide trucks, I feel

(34:55):
confident enough to try thosethings. And I've been really
enjoying trying Those thingseven though they're very scary
to me, and I still totally suckat them, but it's cool. So yeah,
that I really like that.

Shove (35:08):
Well, something that's been, this is not my obsession
for the week. So I don't haveone of those. But it'd be my
obsession, I guess. But I haveto squeeze it in here has been
like watching these skaters haveshredded and been like, Fuck
white trucks, like for so longthat like our narrow rider dies.
And then like, they see theirfriend with white trucks. And

(35:31):
then they're like, fuck weleveled up or like, then they
try their skates on. And thenlike, immediately you see them
with it. It's been happening.
Like, in the last week, I'veseen three people turned away
trucks. And it's like, insane.
I'm just like, it's like, Ithink we hate on things. Because
we're like, well, we don't seethem, or we haven't tried them
yet. And then we try it. We'relike, Damn, it was actually

(35:54):
cool. I always be like, Oh, whydrugs? Oh, it's so stupid. Also,
you're gonna trip yourself.
Like, why would you do that? SoI was like, no, not all never
have those. And then I startedlike, the scene. I'm like, maybe
you try them. I don't know, seehow they feel. And my first time
I put them on my feet. Iremember like, just standing
there and being like, I feellike I'm in shoes. Like, what?
It's so sturdy.

Rebel (36:15):
I definitely was anti wide trucks at first to for no
reason. Like, there was no,there was no legitimate reason
for me to be anti white trucks.
And the only reason I can thinkof which is so not even valid at
all whatsoever, was that I waslike, Why would you make it
easier for you to do thesetricks? Like you should be able

(36:36):
to do them? Like, what like, what is that even thought
process?

Shove (36:42):
It's like the call thing because it's like super cool to
be like, I can do all thesegrinds, and I'm on narrow
tracks. It's like Damn, that'sbad. But like, also, because you
can do all those things on notricks, and you're working
harder because you're in theredrugs. When you put the wide
ones on, you're gonna fuckingfool sin.

Rebel (37:00):
Yeah, yeah. Like I don't know why I would be like against
leveling up. But yeah, soanyways, old rebel. No. New
rebel. Yes. So we love the widetracks. i It's yeah, I love
them. Now you

Shove (37:15):
just need to get your kingpins shaved down,

Rebel (37:17):
I definitely need to get my gang been shaved down because
I've been trying things onrails. And I keep screeching to
a halt by my low hangingkingpins, but like, so why
trucks aren't technically madefor roller skates. And so you
kind of have to, like adjustsome shit on your skates. And

(37:39):
you're like DIY thing, which ispart of the roller skate
experience. But you also canlike fuck up your skate or fuck
up the trucks or

Shove (37:48):
Well, yeah, a lot of time the pivot arm will like pop out,
or it will be like, you'll belike, Oh, that's a little
wobbly. And you just slam yourfoot down and goes back in. And
that's just because the shape ofthe pivot arm of a lot of these
is going to be different.
Because for it to be able to fitwithin the kubot, the pivot cup
that goes into your truck. Theshape really matters. So the

(38:08):
length tends to be shorter forthe skateboard or there'll be
flat on the top. It's just adifferent angle because going
into a different part. Becausewhen you buy these skateboards,
rucks, because it's a wholetruck as the hanger attached to
the piece of metal which getsscrewed into the board. So now
we're popping off that piece ofmetal which made it attractive

(38:29):
now it's just a hanger. And thenwe're like, Yeah, let's just
shove this random shaped thingand to this plate that's for
something different. And that'shella sketch, but it works.
Yeah, but that's why it's sohard to have like, these hangers
that fit and every freakin platebecause people are just thinking

(38:50):
oh, it's just a truck, a truck,a truck, a truck, and it's like
no, it's a hanger and the hangerhas the arm and the pivot arm
the pivot arm is what'simportant that's why I can't
necessarily just take a truckfrom I can't take a hanger from
like a reactor Neo and stick itinto a reactor pro because as a
different type of pivot arm

Rebel (39:13):
Yeah, yeah, this is very important information that I did
not know when I first was tryinglead tracks and I was like, I
just don't understand and I feltvery overwhelmed by like all of
this now which is also

Shove (39:28):
why you see way more people with like the shirt, not
the sugar. The what it's a platethe sunlight plates, is because
it's like easier for like someof the trucks or just go into a
sunlight plate than it is forthe reactor plates. And
unfortunately, a lot of us Parkskaters have reactor plates.

(39:48):
Yeah, and now I know why becauseI was like carrying that on the
East Coast that a lot of peopleare like oh team Avante like
they hate the reactor fleets.
But out here almost everyonerides reactor fleets. And then
we're like, oh, now we havethese white trucks, but they're
not fitting, none of the whitetrucks fit in the reactors. So
then you have to switch tosomething. So then people are
switching to Avanti for a lot ofthem. And then a lot of them are

(40:09):
like, Oh, the sunlight fits. Soit's like you have to end up
changing your whole setup justbecause like have your trucks.

Rebel (40:19):
Yeah, literally. Okay, my whole setup for Park skating
changed recently, I went fromhaving narrow trucks, the NIO
reactor plate and the CIB slideblocks to I switch to the
sunlight play the what trucksthe wide trucks and then I got a

(40:40):
big foot slide block. And I waslike, Well, this is an entirely
different state now. So I guesswe'll just see. And I was even
like, I don't even know whatparts I like or don't like,
because I can't narrow down whatis making it feel how because
the lighter are no, no, no, theydon't feel lighter. Because you

(41:02):
still have a block. Yeah, andthe block is like big, but I
love it. So I really like my newskate setup. The only thing that
is kind of like hard to get usedto is that it's definitely
higher. It's taller than it wasbefore. Because the sunlight is
like a tad bit taller, I think.
Or at least that's myperception. I have no idea if

(41:23):
it's actually taller or not thenthen the reactor. Do you know if
it is or not thought about that?
I think it is because but thenagain, I don't know because I
switched my reactor into onto mylike lollies. And I was skating
in those the other day and I waslike what is happening? This is
so weird. These are not theplates that I usually have on

(41:48):
these skates at all whatsoever.
Ah.

Shove (41:52):
Yeah, I felt like I would recommend wide trucks for even
people are like my balance isreally bad. And I want to be
more sturdy. I know someone thata large guy. He's a fat fella.
And he's really tall. And hepreferred he got the white
trucks just for like, going downthe street, like just skating in

(42:12):
the neighborhood because hefeels more sturdy on them. And I
think that's another thing thatcould be valid for people is
like, you don't necessarily needthem for Park skating. It could
help you if you're just like, that balance isn't there and I
need extra security.

Rebel (42:26):
Yeah, definitely provides extra security, that's for sure.
I put them on and I was likewhat I'm just like here. It's
like, I don't feel like I'm in abanana out at all. But
definitely not good for danceskating. No. So if you're a
person who likes dance, skatingdo not get wide trucks. It is a
terrible idea. If you're evenconsidering dance gating do not

(42:49):
get wide tracks. And I wouldeven be I would be wary when it
comes to trail skating, becauseit is definite. Whereas it does
give you that like stability. Itis really easy to trip yourself.
Yeah, so like when you'reskating with your feet next to
each other, or you're crossingover anything like that. You

(43:11):
just have to kind of like adjustto it and make sure that you're
adapting your stride and likethe way that you skate to the
fact that you have wide tracksbecause I definitely even on the
ramp like have already trippedmyself

Shove (43:27):
and it's like because the the skate just interlock so
easily. It's like they hook onto each other and you just can
freakin Yeah, you just kind ofget used to like shit so have
your feet Yeah. Or where you'reat you know that spatial
awareness. Awareness after withthat I do not have Yeah, yeah,
so that's my thought about whytrucks do you have any other

(43:49):
thoughts about why trucks I justcan't wait for my new park
skates to show up so I can throwin the sunlight plate and
finally have my white trucks onthere and really experience the
full like Park setup. You'regonna love it. Love it. And
those skates are gonna be socute. Oh my god. Yeah, y'all are
gonna die. Y'all are seriouslygonna die. Well, that's all we

(44:12):
have for the wheel world.

Rebel (44:13):
Yeah, but let us know what you want us to talk about
in the wheel world because we'llalways take your opinions into
consideration and let us know ifyou have tried wide trucks and
what you like or don't likeabout them. All right, let's
move on to the next segment

Shove (44:47):
Alright, this next segment is called Trick of the
Week. Our Trick of the Week isby little space cow girl and
many dice to quad and it Is thisso this is a parody of a female
skateboarder. Okay, so basicallythe same song and she had like

(45:12):
pink, a pink hoodie on andjeans, but her name is Stephanie
nerding. She owns a skateboardcompany. And she she shred she's
a good skateboarder. But whatshe did is like, she was like,
did this roller she held up adeck and she's all Jackass sent
me this board. And then she goesto shred at the skate park. But

(45:33):
it's like, obviously, like shehas like a stunt devil like it's
a it's like a guy skateboardingand like learning these like
insane tricks. And then so andit cuts to her face. And she's
just like having fun. And sheeven like flips up in the
beginning. So Kayla made thesame video pretty much but she
had her boyfriend, do allepilator, who has recently

(45:55):
started skating and their skatesetups are very similar. So it
was perfect. So they both wearpink shirts, and then jeans. And
for her she even like shows inspace. Like they cross each
other and look at each other.
Like what's up at it? Becauseshe's like, so creative and so
good with any kind of real Iswear or skate content at social
media. Yeah, so like, it'shilarious. And it was like,

(46:17):
she's not trolling this girl.
She's just like, I'm gonna do askate version of that. And it
came out so good that I saw herpost. The original creator of
doing this, like she evencommented on it and was like,
amazing or something like that.
You know what's so funny though?
I still wear that Kayla can dothose tricks. No, she can't. Oh,

(46:41):
it was just like because it wasjust a parody. Yeah, no, it's
because he can do them evenfaster and harder. So the whole
thing is about like, yeah, shecan do strikes but he can
execute it like hardcore cuzhe's been bleeding for so long.
Yeah. And you know, wheneverbleeders were on rollerskates
all sudden, they're just likeshredding it so crazy. So I love

(47:04):
it. Kayla, you're so good. Ihope you're watching this.
You're so good. None of ourfriends. I know. None of our
worldspace cowgirl they did inthe beginning. And then they're
like I see you in real life. Idon't need to listen to watch.
So funny. They also watch yourYouTube it's like there can only
take so much.

Rebel (47:22):
Yeah, very true. Very. I did it. I don't. I don't blame
me there. But yeah, so if youdon't follow a little space cow
girl you definitely should. Hername is Kayla. She's a shredder
she lives in Vegas. And she isawesome. So thanks for being our
Trick of the Week. Yeah. And ifyou're wondering how these trick
of the weeks get chosen, it's meand shove we just choose random

(47:45):
we see something called Unreallike

Shove (47:48):
it's not like people are submitting themselves or
anything like that. Or eventhese people don't even know
that that the Trick of the Week.
And so they're like, did theyjust call me a trick? Yes, you
are the Trick of the Week of theweek labor of the month, treat
the week.

Rebel (48:01):
All right, well, let's go into our obsessions All right,
our obsessions is whatever we'retotally obsessed with this week,

(48:23):
so I'll go first. I am totallyobsessed with stupid remaking
stupid viral videos on ticktock. I feel like I should have
picked something different cuz Ididn't realize we're going to
talk about this in the actualreal world. So actually, okay,
okay. Okay, I changed it. Myobsession this week is Fletcher

(48:47):
radio. Okay, so if you don'tknow who Fletcher is flesher is
You're welcome. Yeah, seriously.
Okay. Shove introduced me toFletcher radio and Fletcher and
I'm obsessed the ultimate womenlove women content. It is she is
she just a single? Is she a bandis she I don't even know. I
literally don't even know butI'm obsessed with her music. And

(49:09):
I'm obsessed with everythingthat surrounds that and creates
like this like, queer genre oflike, women music. I don't even
know if that's what it's called.
It's definitely not called thatbut it's amazing as core. It's,

(49:30):
oh, okay, Liz core. I'mdefinitely going to take that
one down. I love that. I'mobsessed with all of the music.
I can't handle it. I love it somuch. Give me a song where you
talk about women being God andI'm in give me a song or you
talk about like, like all thecrazy ups and downs of being

(49:52):
like a queer woman in love withanother woman. I'm here for it.

Shove (49:58):
slaughter me, take me I'm done. That's my obsession. This
like when we first starteddating, she was obsessed with
rainbows. Like it was like, youknow, I'm gay because of the
rainbows rainbows everywhere.
Rainbows on my face rainbows onmy clothing. You know, I was no
actually obsessed with rainbows.
No, but like, not like cheesybut like incorporating it into

(50:22):
things not like the cheesyrainbow. Okay, like it was still
tastefully done. But it wasstill like, I'm gay type of
deal. And now it's more like oh,that that's definitely less
like, just like style wise musictastes like things like the up
and before I felt like you werelike a fresh baby gay man
chopped and gave away chopped ina lesbians body. And now you're

(50:45):
just like, I am a stylishlesbian. Like you've evolved.
I've evolved into my fight.
Yeah, because it was like fromcoming out to being like to
everyone in your life. Like thisthis confident, like, powerful
force to be reckoned with.

Rebel (51:00):
Yeah, that's so crazy. I definitely feel so much more
myself now and feel powerful inmyself. And I would even say
that I feel more confident likenot wearing makeup and like just
being myself fully in a way thatI never ever ever was before.
Not that that has anything to dowith being a grown gay or not.

(51:25):
But

Shove (51:26):
just an old lesbian hating on young queers. I'm not
hating on pretty sure that likemost of the music I listened to
is made by young queers. No.
Verbal. There was this teacher, she was like, she hated me
because I was young, gay and oldlesbians always hate. Okay, I
stand by that still. I stillthink that that teacher hated me

(51:47):
because I was a young. What doyou think all those means? A
young lesbian? No, but I dothink that there's like a flash
of jealousy. I think there'swhat age do you think you'll be
when you start like being tooyoung queer people? Never.
Because I'm aware of it. Shesays that now. But maybe when

(52:10):
I'm 70 I guess. That's, youwanted an age. So I guess I'll
give you that age. Because Idefinitely don't see it being
when I'm still in like my 50s.
Like, I don't know. I feel like70 that. That sounds like a good

(52:30):
age. You start hating everythingyourself. Yeah, I feel like
you're jealous of any youngperson.

Rebel (52:36):
I feel like the young queers would fall right in line
with all the other things that Ihate if I was 70 not saying
anything about being 70 I justfeel like yeah, I'm not. Yeah,
you're 70 I'm sure you'reawesome.

Shove (52:47):
When you're 70 I think you earned the fucking right to
like, hate on whatever. Like, old and bitter if you want to be
because it's like my own. You'relike, why am I appeasing anyone?
I don't like you get away fromme. You don't need to read.
Yeah, life's short. I don't havemuch.

Rebel (53:06):
But then also like, Okay, so my dad is 66 He turned 66
today, and I don't think my dadis old. So I'm like, oh, and
four years. I don't know thatyou'd be old. I'm thinking maybe
76 is old. Maybe? Like 76 islike, that's old? I don't know.
No, no, I feel like 80 I feellike when you're 80 you're

(53:28):
definitely old. Like there's noquestion about it. You're old
when you're when you're 100 yearold. For sure. For sure. When
you're 100 year old rebel

Shove (53:37):
once a sliver a really long time and I'm like, please
just don't stop. Stop it. I dowant us to live for a very long
time. But you know, I havemakeup on my eye and it burns. A
girl can dream. Okay, so myobsession. Yes. Is not this one.

(54:02):
My obsession is like I don'treally have one currently, um,
this last week has been a blur.
I am still obsessed witheuphoria, because I thought it
was over. And then I was like, wait, no. Was it the shortest
season ever? It's just thatwe're still in the new season.
And because we're noobs and wentbinge watch it. Yeah. And like,

(54:23):
yeah, it's like now I'm livingfor Sunday night. I learned
that's pretty much it becauseI'm just like working and all
that shit. So I don't know. Ithink I'm gonna have a better
obsession next week. Because Ifeel like I'm gonna live life
and do things. Yes. I don'tknow. Maybe an obsession. Okay.

(54:46):
I'll just be online more. AndI'll be on my phone and then I'm
back. I'm obsessed with thisnow. That's usually with them
sessions. Oh my god. I haven'tbeen online that much. So
