in one cute little
longshoremen Hall in Wilmington,
Shove (00:50):
and a pandemic happened
and when you do when there's a
pandemic, you start a podcastbecause you can only do things
with these.
Rebel (00:56):
Yeah, you put lots of
toilet paper in your cart, and
you do podcasts.
Shove (01:04):
Oh my gosh. Anyways,

Rebel (01:09):
Welcome to the episode of
the podcast. I was it was so
good. And guess what my name isRebel.
Shove (01:18):
I don't know my name
anymore. I remember I named
chef.
Rebel (01:23):
And together we are
shovel.

Because guess what? snitches?
It's October.
Rebel (01:36):
Yeah. And so the answer
is yes, we can dig it. Yay. So
digging graveyard digging intoour favorite month. It didn't
used to be my favorite month andthen I started dating this one
and now it's my favorite month.
Yeah, and I
Shove (01:51):
had the best week ever.
Wow. I got promoted at Moxie.
You are now looking at thedirector of merchandising.
Rebel (02:03):
Wow.
Shove (02:06):
Yes. And then I also got
a new gig with a certain company
that I've worked for before.
That sounds like it's gonna beepic and awesome. But I'm also
like terrified that it's notgonna go through because it's so
amazing. And it's all aboutblack women and empowerment for
black women. And I'm like, Iliterally cried when I found out
that they had chosen me sohopefully it falls to you or
(02:27):
else
Rebel (02:30):
he goes through not
follow through follows through
it's Oh follows Yeah,
Shove (02:35):
yeah. So yeah, so that
happened. And then I went
Rebel (02:40):
oh my god, literally the
best week ever. And then I got a
tattoo. Oh my god to top off thebest week ever. Yeah, so
Shove (02:49):
it was a really epic day.
I also thought I wasn't Emilygetting my hair done, but ended
up being something that was alsocool. I got to sit down with a
hairstylist I know. And she'sopening a new salon in Long
Beach. And she was talking abouthow she wants to like give
causes and kind of like mentorpeople. And I was like hell
yeah, even though I have like ayear and some change to finish
school. It's always good tostart those connections and to
(03:11):
expand your learning because thecosmos school they just teach
you how to pass the test. Andthey don't teach you natural
hair and I'm super excited to bea sponge and soak in all of her
knowledge.
Rebel (03:23):
Oh my god, you're a
sponge.
Shove (03:25):
I'm a sponge,
Rebel (03:26):
you're a sponge. That's
exciting. I also had a good week
because I got to go toDisneyland. And because I got to
hang out with you. You hang outwith me all the time. I know but
that just means that every weekis a good week
Shove (03:42):
I will say something that
is cool about October I'm having
trouble with my girlfriend andit's starting last year she
finally started watching scarymovies with me and last October
was finally my favorite againand it wasn't my favorite with
her left first because shedoesn't like spooky things and I
was like you know like no one'sperfect right? And then you
(04:02):
never have someone you're inlove with it's perfect and like
Rebel was pretty close toperfect, but the lack of spooky
scary skeleton love was scaryskeletons. It broke my heart and
it was like so hard to not beable to watch scary movies with
her. Like I had to wait till shewas like off at a speech
competition or gallivantingaround town I don't know doing
(04:24):
stuff that she wasn't home andthen I could like binge watch
all the spooky stuff. And Istill can't watch slasher stuff
and like the really gory stuff Ilike because she freaks out but
I can still watch scary movieswith her now and she's starting
to get like more open to thingsso we're going back to are
watching something scary everynight in October and I'm super
excited.
Rebel (04:42):
Yes, that is definitely
something that we're doing and
everyone don't hate me but itwas my first time watching
Elvira last night and one I amobsessed to we had this very
like true conversation like whyis it that the only cosplay That
people do is that one outfitbecause she has so many amazing
(05:03):
outfits. Like I definitely wantto cosplay her. But like at the
end like in her Vegas show upspoiler alert. Actually, I'm
probably the last person onearth to watch it so not spoiler
alert
Shove (05:13):
also pray to the
goddesses because oh by right?
Or at least square I'm not sureshe's a lesbian,
Rebel (05:21):
but she said she was a
queer relationship with her 19
years.
Shove (05:26):
Yes. So, wait to come on
over to the team.
Rebel (05:30):
We love it. We love to
see it. Yeah, so today we are
going to talk about tattoos. Andthen we are going to make a very
exciting announcement in thereal world and we can't wait to
talk about it. So it's gonna bean exciting episode. Get ready,
buckle your seat belts and puton your spooky hats because here
(05:55):
we go.
Shove (05:55):
Wait, first of all, I
just want to say I don't know
what we're talking about in theworld world. So I'm super
excited. So I also I'm gonna belike, yeah, I'm buckler, my
belt, because I'm like, what arewe talking about?
Rebel (06:10):
It's something that we've
been planning and has been in
the works for two years.
Shove (06:15):
Right? We're gonna do
we're gonna do an ad. We're
gonna do an ad shoves. Okay meanHalloween collection. More.
Today I'm going to talkespecially about the new
baseball tee I have, which iswhy I have a black eye right now
because the baseball hit myface.
Rebel (06:33):
Oh my god.
Shove (06:36):
Head on over to the
YouTube channel and see how good
I am at special effects makeup.
I knocked this baby out inapproximately four
Rebel (06:43):
minutes. Yeah, it was
really fast. Oh, real does look
bad. It looks really real. Ithought you were using a filter
when you pulled up your phonebecause I didn't look at your
face. I just looked at thescreen and I was like, Oh my
god, that filter is so intense.
And then I looked at your faceand I was like, Oh my god, she
has a black guy.
Shove (06:57):
Happy Halloween y'all. So
yeah, this is this is my new
design and it's pandemicrollers. Um, yeah, I love it.
This is a comfy t. This is a 2xand it fits so yay. Also, I
would like to say that not thateverything in my store is 10%

letting you all know that Shovejust in case you didn't know
because some people don't knowthis, but Shove is an incredible
artist on things. Like she'ssuch a good artist. She paints
things like a lot of thepaintings in our house are by
(07:39):
her and she does a lot ofgraphic art. And she's always
coming up with these reallyamazing ideas. And she's been
working on this pandemic rolleridea for a while and it's
finally come to fruition andit's so beautiful and so cute.
And so relatable and I love Idon't love the Coronavirus, but
I love the germ on your shirt.
And I also think like her spookyfans like her for spooky fat
(08:02):
femme fatale femmes I don't knowwhat they're called, but
whatever they're so cute andthere's four of them and I think
that there's some of the bestwork that you've done and
they're only available for verylimited time during spooky
season so you got to get spookyskater roll out Spooky Scary

Shove (08:29):
all those cute baby
Rebel (08:30):
thanks.
Shove (08:31):
Alright, let's head on
over to the
Rebel (08:34):
real world.
Shove (08:49):
I totally tried to do
like a scream and I realized
that's how I like a baby who amit
Rebel (08:52):
sounds. It sounded more
like ah, then like.
Shove (08:59):
It was like, you know,
the old Aliyah song like, I've
been watching you like a hawk inthis guy.
Rebel (09:08):
Yeah, that's definitely
what it sounded like. Alright.
Okay, so in the real world, thisis where we talk about whatever
we want. It's the real world. Sothings we talk about whatever we
want. I mean, we really do butthis is like the it doesn't even
have to pertain to anything. Wejust choose a random topic or
whatever topic the y'all want.
And then we just like talk aboutit. So today, we're talking
(09:29):
about something that actuallyquite a few people have asked us
about, and that is tattoos.
tattoos. We were definitelyinspired because she got a
tattoo recently so
Shove (09:45):
I am rebel was inspired
because she said, Hey, what are
you talking about the skate daytoday? And I was like, No one
wants a spooky skeleton movie.
And then she was like, Hey, wegotta do we gotta do it. And I
was like, whatever. And she'slike tattoos. I was like, Yeah,
sure. Whatever.
Rebel (10:00):
Yeah, so actually I
decided about it at noon today.
Shove (10:04):
Wow. Well, I
Rebel (10:06):
was gonna change it if
you didn't like it. Oh, it's
okay. I plan it ahead of time.
Well here we are talking abouttattoos. And now we're gonna
talk about tattoos. So, I wasthinking that maybe we could
talk about our first tattoo. Andthen like, we could move on from
there. Not that we're gonna talkabout all of our tattoos in
succession, but like, No, no,that would take way too long. I
was literally be like thelongest episode ever, and you
(10:28):
would be like, kill me.
Shove (10:30):
But let's jump in. What's
your first tattoo?
Rebel (10:33):
So my first tattoo, you
can't even see it anymore,
because under other tattoos, butI really wanted to. My first
what I wanted for my firsttattoo was I wanted a watercolor
map of the world on my back. Idesperately wanted this tattoo,
(10:58):
I printed it out on a paper, Iput it on my wall for like, a
year or something like that, because that's what I heard that
you're supposed to do before youget a tattoo is like print it
out and have it on your wall foryears. So you know if you're
going to hate it or not, whichactually thank God that I did
that because like, I would nothave fucking wanted that tattoo
right now, but that's also like,I'm a very different person
(11:22):
today than I was when I got myfirst tattoo. So I got my first
tattoo, I was living inAmsterdam. I was 22 years old or
something like that. And Icountry drop. Well, it's just
like where I was. Okay, soanyways, I was there and I was
(11:47):
like, I really want a tattoothat's like, really significant
to me. And like, you know, allof that. And like, if that's
what you want with your tattoos, that's so great, and like, good
for you. But like, I realize nowthat I'm not that person, but I
thought I was that person, or Ithought I had to be that person.
So I got this tattoo that hadfive birds outlined and then the
(12:13):
word fearless on my arm and youcan still see that I have the
word fearless right here. Andeach of the five birds
represented like five thingsthat like were traumas that I
had experienced, like deeptraumas, like there was like one
for the cult that I was in andthen there was one for like, you
(12:35):
know, just a bunch of stuff thatI had gone through, and a car
crash that I got into that likeI ended up declaring bankruptcy
and just like so five, like verysignificant things in my life.
And I was like, I'm fearless.
Because if I could get throughall of that, then I can get
through like whatever comes myway. And like yeah, so it was
very significant to me at thetime and the birds like we're
kind of like secondary outlineso it looks like they were in
(12:58):
flight.
Shove (13:01):
Want to know how original
that was? The fact that we have
a print hanging in our bathroomright now where the girl has the
same exact
Rebel (13:08):
Yeah, but it wasn't that
she doesn't have the word
fearless on it
Shove (13:12):
but a girl that also was
severely Christian and did the
same work that you did did havethe same are in same spot but
different font.
Rebel (13:22):
Yeah, but she didn't have
the birds so she didn't have the
Congo. Yeah, so I get it. It wasa shitty tattoo, but it was
Yeah, it was my gateway and nowall the birds are covered. You
came and tell that I had birdsand now she has most tattoos.
Now I have like epic tattoos. Sothat was my first tattoo. Yeah,
Shove (13:42):
my first tattoo. shitty
drying I didn't know it's like
same thing because you know whenyou're young, I was 18 I was 19
actually. And that was like,Yeah, I love my parents house
but I'm also working. I payrent. I can do what I want. So
already It was like obsessivehair scenes I had like once I
(14:04):
turned 18 like I had only twoAngel bite snake bites. I had my
brain and my lip Ray and thenhad my septum. I didn't have my
regular nose his nose nostrilsyet. And I had my ears stretch
to an inch so I was likeobsessive a lot. And I was like
time for a tattoo. I'm seeingtime for a tattoo. So I took
(14:27):
this drawing and it was twotattered hearts and with wings
of course because seeing kidright. And then the hearts had
like nails hammered into it andthen and cuts because I was you
know, used to trigger warning.
cut myself so I figured it'd becool to have the sloshes say art
saves but it was service throb.
(14:49):
So it says art says but sevenstraw was like the one of the
best albums that like helped meget through life. It was by it
is by oak tap. definitely lookhim up if you like metal and
female vocals it's like crazyjust like lyrics and stuff and
like, especially when you havelike trauma in your life, a lot
of it can be very like good kindof lyrics that you can belt in
(15:14):
your car and like cry or justfeel like I'm not freaking
alone. And I know that kind ofpain, like oh seven straw was
it. So I was like, that's when Iget and when I'll just get like
art says I'm also an artist. SoI got that tattooed and saw my
upper shoulders on my back. AndI remember I was like wearing a
tube top to top. Wow, tube top.
And I was on the computer, theold big old PC that we had back
(15:40):
in the day is like 2007 and myback was to the front door of
the apartment I lived in with myparents and my dad walks in and
I'm like, Oh shit. Like, don'twait, you're a bad bitch. You're
a bad bitch. Your boss bitch.
They can't tell you nothing. Andmy dad doesn't say anything. I'm
like, Okay, now I'm more scared.
This didn't say anything. Andlike almost a week went by. And
(16:00):
I was like cutting vegetables inthe kitchen, like helping with
dinner. And my dad goes. So whatthe fuck made you do that? I'm
just like, well, because Iwanted it. I literally said,
Well, you know, I wanted it. AndI'm over 18 and I paid for it.
And my dad just shook his head.
(16:21):
Then after that, it was just allshe wrote. But I did keep it
like places you couldn't see it.
So I had the other back, I hadother tattoo in the middle, my
back and then I did like myupper arms. Because I was like,
I don't know where my future isgonna be I don't want to ruin my
chances at a job I did get myfirst tattoo that was visible,
was the one for my mom when shedied. And then I was like now
(16:43):
I'm just gonna tattoo anythinglike even finger tattoos.
Rebel (16:50):
So, I am here trying to
translate. And remember what my
tattoo exactly means in English.
Because I have a really storythat I don't even know that I've
told you. Okay, so my secondtattoo not and I, I'm not going
through them. But this has aninteresting story behind it. So
(17:13):
my second tattoo is right hereon my left arm and it's in my
upper arm. And what I wanted wasbecause for me my like, and this
is why I always like talk aboutliving in Amsterdam is because
it was really really formationalto me, like it was a really
important time of my life.
(17:34):
Because that was the time when Iwas kind of coming out to
myself. And it was like just areally big deal I was I was
coming into my own outside ofeveryone's expectations of me
because I was such a peoplepleaser. And I was trying to
figure out who I was like in adifferent country, you know,
(17:55):
just like totally different. Andagain, I had decided to go Okay,
I guess I just need to give atrigger warning for this
episode. So trigger warning forsexual assault, I had decided to
go to Amsterdam, because I wasraped. And then I broke up with
my boyfriend of four years. AndI was like, I need to just get
(18:19):
out like I need to leave andfigure out what the hell My life
is because I was like realizingI was gay. And I was sexually
assaulted and so like it wasjust like not happening for me
and so that's one of the reasonswhy I did the like study abroad
thing. But then I left hellaearly and I stayed longer so
that I could just like figuremyself out. So I really wanted
(18:41):
to get a tattoo that was thatkind of said so there's this
phrase that says pain demands tobe felt and I had struggled my
whole life with allowing myselfto feel the things that I was
going through I'd always kind ofglazed over everything that I
went through and just kind oflike not let it impact me and I
(19:04):
was really trying to like letmyself feel because I felt like
nothing like I felt like afucking plastic bag. You know,
not to be Katy Perry or anythingbut like, I felt just like a cam
that had been like, emptied andwas like flying through the road
on the freeway that kept gettinghit by cars like that's how I
felt and so I was trying to getmyself to feel and so one of the
(19:28):
things that I wanted to dothrough like the healing process
was to get a tattoo that hadsome similar meaning to like
this idea of like pain demandingto be felt and like through like
experiencing and actuallyfeeling the pain like that there
would be something good thatwould come on the outside of it.
So that's what I wanted to saybut I wanted a Dutch phrase that
(19:53):
said that idea and so I talkedto my friend and nuke for like
literally months about Like whatthe Dutch phrase translation of
that idea or that concept wouldbe, and finally she came up with
this phrase and it was sorry ifI butcher it out moolah, Kayden
and Stan Fondren, which meansfrom difficulties comes
(20:16):
miracles, but it's like a phrasethat they say, or like a phrase
that someone's that or somethinglike that. And so I was like,
I'm gonna get that tattooed onme. And, and the reason why I
had to like I had to pause andlook it up for a little bit
because I like, don't everremember exactly the words
because I know the meaning to melike what it means to me, I know
(20:38):
that and that's like, what Icare about. So anyways, so all
that to say the real story then,so I went to get the tattoo,
right. So I gave the phrase tothe guy and I had like, shown a
text message from a nuke, andlike, showed it to the guy who
like did it, whatever. And thenI go to school the next day, and
(20:59):
they didn't spell it right. Theymissed. I can't remember what it
was that they missed. Oh,they, they missed like a T or an
N in the own Stan. And I myfriend rake I was like, they
spelled that wrong that ismisspelled. And I was like, No,
(21:20):
they fucking did it. And I lostmy mind. I was so embarrassed,
and I was so pissed at thatfreaking tattoo artists like you
don't know how to spell. I wasso mad. And like, I looked back
at the text message and thething that I had shown him and
it was spelled correctly in thatand so I was just like really,
really pissed. So I freaked out.
(21:41):
I literally never tell anyonethis story because I'm like, so
embarrassed to be one of thosepeople who like had a misspelled
tattoo told me that it wasmisspelled. And then I went back
and he like, like fudged it inthere and I like hated it for so
long. And now I don't give afuck. But yeah, so I have a
misspelled Well, it's fixed nowso I thought that was a story
(22:02):
such a nightmare I have Yeah,it's a total nightmare. And I
was like, Oh my god, and Ithought I was never gonna get
any more tattoos. Yeah, anyways,
Shove (22:13):
I had I was a you know,
like you've heard about movies
and seeing kid I think raver Iwas super golf. I was also super
pumped because like a punk goth.
I am I was pretty grimy punk fora long time. You know, good old
gutter punk. So I had thementality of like, you know,
(22:35):
punk rock, have your homiestattoo you in their backyard
garage, wherever. So most of mytattoos are done like
underground. Like, just ThugLife, punk rock, baby. And it
was like all by people that likeI met were like, super chill.
And I was like, we've gottendrunk on the show before so and
they'd be like, I'd have to talkto you. And I'm like, yeah, and
(22:58):
then like, work together. I gettattooed. If I here's $40 here's
$50 i don't think i think likeonce I paid $100 so it was like
perfect because I was a poorpunk. And they were punks just
doing things illegally, and itworked out fine. I don't regret
any of my tattoos. Like thinkthe tattoos and I'm like about
are the ones that like my Fridaythe 13th tattoo because like, I
(23:22):
don't talk to any of the peopleI thought it with. Like I
actually have two matchingtattoos. Do you have any
matching tattoos with people?
It's not me. Alright, so I firstimagined that two was my David
Bowie tattoo. I had an anchoredon my finger already. And then
(23:43):
on my other finger while myfriend was getting a David Bowie
lightning bolt on her her ringfinger and I was like, Oh my
God, we should both get it. Thatis just like, oh my god, let's
do it. So I got at the same timeas her and I definitely don't
talk to that person. Ever sincelike I had a traumatic
experience. And it was somethingthat I helped her out with. So
and then when I went through it,she wasn't there for me. And
(24:06):
that kind of like ended ourfriendship and whatever is what
it is. And so sometimes I lookat it, I do think about her and
I wonder where she is I do hopeshe's doing well, because she
did have a lot of issues and Itried to help her with them the
best I could. But then I haveanother one I got Friday the
13th at an actual tattoo shopbecause that's the only time I
can afford it. Also rememberwhen Friday 13th tattoos were
(24:26):
actually $13 or 30 or 31. Andnow it's like $100 Yes, like
this is not afraid and you'relike this No. So anyways, but
yeah, I digress. So stupid handI wanted a perfume bottle. I
should just got it. But then mythree friends were like the
(24:46):
witches of Forestry. They'relike, Oh my god, what if we all
get the matching tattoo? Stupidhand with like crossing fingers
which I don't even think arecrossing the fingers the right
way. Like it looks weird. Andthen it's like has this little I
don't even know what it lookslike they don't look at it and
then we got MC on it and then sowhen we stopped trying to two of
them like my friend was like I'mgonna say is Mariah Carey well
(25:08):
we had started this blog godsare very same called the modern
craft so it was like moderncraft lb because we're like the
witches the forestry and we allhung out as people would cause
the craft so it was like a longbeach lifestyle vlog I did this
like thing on it called likebitch on a budget where it was
like DIY stuff. And then like wedid cocktail nights at the stash
(25:29):
bar in Long Beach giveaways likeall kinds of fun stuff like
yeah, the modern craft and thenlike all the shit I did and
footage got deleted when Istopped being friends with
Lamine girl Sarah and like, iswhat it is but I kind of saw cuz
I like wanted to get some ofthose videos from memories and
it's all wiped away but whateverfriendships and and stuff gets
(25:51):
weird any loose things. And hejust stuck with a tattoo that
says MC on it.
Rebel (25:57):
I feel like you know, Oh,
well.
Shove (26:01):
Yeah. Oh, well, I guess.
At least now they're blended inbefore I was like super obvious.
And
Rebel (26:06):
my gosh, MC it's your
name. And then Courtney.
Shove (26:10):
Oh, gosh. Whoa. I just
feel like if you ask me Well,
that's how he was right now. Icouldn't even tell you. That's
how like, I just like blockthings out. I'm like, we're on
your arm. It's like all my armbut like,
Rebel (26:24):
I have a tattoo that I
feel like not that I regret but
just I feel like I wasted moneyon and it is can you even see it
still? Or is it covered already, but stupid squiggly? squiggly
line guy tattoo on it was aFriday the 13th tattoo to know I
think it's coming out right on.
Yeah, so all these stupidtattoos I got covered because I
wanted a sleeve on this arm andI didn't want them to be part of
(26:46):
it. But I got like these twopeople like kissing and it was a
single line drawing and I reallylike that type of tattoo. But it
just like didn't form with mytattoos. So I just kind of was
like ash cover it up.
Shove (27:01):
Yeah, tattoos either.
Like, not everyone. They'regonna hurt me or hurt. Yeah,
tattoos hurt. Because you'regetting stabbed with 1000s of
needles, some hurt more thanother it's like the placement of
it. It's how much meat you goton your bone. how thick your
skin is like, then on top ofyour hands of course it's gonna
hurt way more Rebel has a handtattoo. And then other places is
nothing I've fallen asleepduring tattoos
Rebel (27:25):
multiple times. I also
think it's your pain tolerance.
Like Yeah, I both of us, right?
Both of us have a really highpain tolerance levels higher
than mine. Mine is mine isreally high. Like I get tattooed
all the time. And I'm like, literally almost every time I
fall asleep and because I'm justlike, at Rock speed asleep. But
what's your most painful tattoothat
Shove (27:50):
you've ever gotten the
back of my thighs. And that's
why they're not done.
Rebel (27:54):
I think was the most
painful tattoo I got actually it
was I think when it went it wastattooing on my sternum right
here for my like piece or myboobs? I actually think that
might have been more painfulthan the back of my hand. I'm
not sure I it's additive, but itwasn't super bad. I literally
went to our tattoo artists. Itwas like hey, am I gonna die?
(28:17):
And she was like, it's gonna bespicy, which I love is her
description of like how spicymeal spicy and it was spicy for
sure. But it definitely wouldnot take it back for the world
because this is one of myfavorite tattoos is this one on
my hand? And it was one ofshoves least favorite tattoos
that I got on my body. Yeah, especially
Shove (28:35):
when you didn't have the
leaf on it and just looked
random and like i don't i'm justi'm like about him tattoos. I
love them. Because their handsare so beautiful. And it's like
I know it's bizarre and I knewif I would have said like I
don't like it she would have notgotten it and I'm believe that
you should get whatever you wantbecause it's your body and no
one should give has a right totalk you out of it. So just
(28:57):
because like I'm like about itdoesn't mean that she should
love it any less.
Rebel (29:02):
You still hate it.
Shove (29:04):
It's okay.
Rebel (29:05):
I love it. I don't have
any regrets. Like
Shove (29:07):
I know it's beautiful.
Rebel (29:10):
I'm aware that it's
beautiful. Yeah. What's your
favorite tattoo on your body?
Shove (29:15):
Oh, no, it changes.
Rebel (29:17):
What if like right now
you had to just have one
Shove (29:21):
on the one of you on my
thigh.
Rebel (29:24):
Oh, shut up. That's cute.
Shove (29:27):
Look. me anyways, yeah,
so I don't know like I feel like
everyone just has tattoos. NowI'm like, it's that funny thing
where it's like you're almostcooler if you don't touch it
this way. Or like, it's reallytrue that like, I feel like for
(29:48):
me growing up there was morechances of you having tattoos
that were like, just for yourather than for the world to see
or like more meaningful thanjust tattoos for the sake of
having tattoos and Definitely ashift and I think both I think
both are valid because like, yeah, like even right now for my
back, it's like, I just wantedto be pretty, I just want to
love my back again and I wantsomething to be nice. All my
(30:10):
other tattoos have a meaninglike something special to me and
something that I'm connected to.
And a lot of time I'd be like, was very like a pure it's like
no, you should get a tattoounless it means something like
that stupid like don't just getsomething that's not like unless
it's the filler like just tohave it because you think it's
cool. And then I was like, Youknow what, like, it's artwork
like To each their own. Don'tjudge people. I do think it's
(30:31):
funny that people only gettattoos where people can see um,
now so like, it's like, we'llhave a full suit and set for why
it's hidden. And it's kind oflike interesting because then
it's like, you're literallygetting I'm just for people to
see and it's like, I don't know,I mean, it's full time. I
shouldn't judge people so I knowif me right, but it's just how I
feel.
Rebel (30:53):
Yeah, that's I think
that's interesting. I definitely
don't give a fuck what otherpeople think about my tattoos.
Yeah. I mean, I obviously carewhat you think. But like for me,
like doing this arm piece, likethis sleeve has been the most
amazing thing because it's mademe like, Oh, I love my arm. And
(31:14):
I never really had any feelingsabout my arm. You know, like, I
was like, whatever. It's an armlike it's fine. You know, like,
Yay, I can like I like have anarm but like now I like see
myself in the mirror. And I'mlike, you are so stunning. Yeah,
your arm like I just think thatevery single time I look in the
mirror and so I don't care atall and most I went from like
(31:37):
super extreme. Like, everysingle tattoo I got for a long
time. Like every single one hada meaning like every single
tattoo on this arm has like avery deep meaning. And then I
just totally Boomerang do theother side. And now I'm just
like, fuck it. I just want todecorate my body. I love it.
(31:57):
It's my favorite.
Shove (31:58):
Yeah, and I totally like
get that now but I used to not
like understand it and now I'mlike, Okay, I see it now.
Rebel (32:05):
I just feel like we're
getting old and who the fuck
cares you know even like, likeat this point and people being
like area. Like Yeah, I'm gonnaget old so why not decorate my
body and love it now so
Shove (32:17):
Winston Churchill quote,
and I'm gonna totally butcher
email, but it was like, whenyou're in your 20s do you care
what everybody thinks whenyou're in your 30s? No one you
don't care what anyone thinks.
And then when you in your 60s,you realize that no one thought
of you at all.
Rebel (32:36):
Oh, I saw that quote.
That's a good quote. Yeah, Idefinitely think that if there's
anything that I've learned fromteaching Communication Studies,
it is that everyone just thinksabout themselves and no one else
and like I remember like when Ifirst started teaching, like I
struggled with that so hard likeI would make the smallest
(32:58):
mistake in class and I'd be likeoh my god these students like
they think I'm so stupid they'regoing home and like thinking
about me that I was like, bitchwhat they don't have time and
space to think about you likethey leave the classroom and
they forget you exist like theybarely remember to do their
homework they're not think abouta stupid mistake you made true
true and the same is true forlike all of life. Anyway, so we
have a tattoo artist that wefreaking love her name is
(33:22):
Tatiana ash. She with Melissaaka Axl honey opened up a honey
which is a tattoo studio. Femaleowned, so cute. like pink and
like pastel and like just it'sso cute. And that's where we go
and get our tattoos. A lot ofpeople ask us that's why I
(33:46):
volunteered that information.
But our tattoo artists Instagramhandle is at tats underscore in
an underscore ash. Anyway, soyeah. But don't Buck up all her
time because then I won't beable to get tattooed. Just
kidding. Go and get all thetattoos because I shouldn't
(34:07):
spend any more money on tattoos.
Shove (34:09):
She goes by tats that she
has two kids
Rebel (34:14):
and her name is Ashe
Valentine which is not the
cutest name anyone has everheard to be like Schmeling, I'm
literally gonna change my lastname we should change your last
name when you get married.
Valentine Valentine Gosh,
Shove (34:27):
no, we'd make her change
her name do we change both of
our first hands a shovel? Oh mygosh, both shovel Valentine.
Let's do it. That's
Rebel (34:38):
fun. You're listening.
Good laugh he does laughing yourname. He's too cool to listen to
tattooing or whatever.
Shove (34:46):
Just takes her money and
run.
Rebel (34:48):
Yeah. Anyways,
Shove (34:53):
also she's a roller
skater too.
Rebel (34:54):
Yeah, she's super
awesome. And she has a super
light touch and she specializesin like black and gray and like
linework and stuff you anyways,so do you want to add anything
else to the tattoo world?
Shove (35:09):
Just do it.
Rebel (35:10):
Just do it. swoosh it,
but don't get a swoosh cuz i
mean if you want to get a swooshwhatever
Shove (35:30):
Welcome to the well world
Rebel (35:31):
the wheel world is where
we talk about things
rollerskating related and guesswhat y'all are the very first
people to find out about thisunless I just like couldn't hold
it in anymore I posted on myInstagram tomorrow future rebel,
I don't know. Anyways, so guesswhat? I have been waiting for
the last two years to finallyfind a place of venue. Yes, a
(35:55):
venue to hold this event thatI've been wanting to hold. And I
finally found a location and itis happening. Guess what I'm
doing, baby.
Shove (36:07):
It's not that exciting to
do that. People way too excited.
Just kidding. me. Oh my god, tone tone tone tone.
Rebel (36:13):
Okay, okay, I'm hosting a
queer prom on roller skates.
Okay, November 13. At pigeonsroller skate rink in Long Beach,
California. I am hosting a queerprom and the theme is glam rock
code tour is on rollerskates.
And it is going to be freakingawesome. The tickets are going
(36:38):
to be going on sale at the endof this week. And they're going
to be on sale on my websiteCheers. Aquarius calm. And all
the proceeds for the event aregoing to be going to the center,
which is a place that helps theLGBTQIA plus community in Long
Beach. And it is going to be anight of roller skating of a
(37:02):
costume competition to or notcostume but like an outfit
competition to crown promroyalty. And there's going to be
a prize for the people who win.
And there's going to berollerskating and there's going
to be dancing and there's goingto be music, and it's gonna be
(37:24):
so amazing. And there's gonna belots of tool and disco balls and
glitter.
Shove (37:30):
And maybe there will be a
dance off for prizes.
Rebel (37:34):
Maybe there will be
events for a prize, and it's
going to be so fun. And thereason why I'm hosting this
event is because as a person whowent to a Christian school, I
didn't get the chance to go witha person that I would have liked
to go with to a prom. And so Iknow that lots of other queer
(37:57):
people also had this experience.
And you didn't even have aproblem. We had a problem. Did
you dance? No, it wasn't aproblem. It was like a formal
but it was prom that we went toa show was she's from Footloose.
Yeah. Anyways, whatever. Wetried that argument, by the way,
it doesn't work. I'm David dancebefore the Lord there. Like
(38:20):
that's nice. Okay. So yeah, so Ididn't have the opportunity. And
I know lots of queer people alsodon't have that opportunity. And
so I wanted to create anopportunity specifically on
rollerskates because I thought, what could be better than a prom
on rollerskates nothing, unlessyou added some glam rock couture
(38:41):
to it. So get out your leatherjackets, get out your tool, get
out your sequence, get out yourextra ness, get out your
lightning bolts, get out yourbright, like flashy outfits, get
ready because it's gonna beamazing. November 13. Mark your
(39:02):
calendars.
Shove (39:07):
Also there is a cap so
yes, there is a cap. And there's
something very important thatRebel left out. Please, please,
unless you see something thatsays tickets still available and
it's closer to the date. Do younot buy a ticket if you are
straight, and I know you mightfeel offended by that. Please do
(39:29):
not. Yes, allies will bewelcomed. But if a queer person
that really wants an opportunityto come to this because they
were deprived of having a promor had to pretend to be
straight, to have fun at theirprom, they need to have this
opportunity to come beforesomeone that is straight. So I
(39:53):
know it might sound fun. I meanI guess I'll put them on
rollerskates but this is not thetime I come The love of Riot
girl and punk rock and Riot girlshows. And to this day like,
very fan like presenting fanpositive shows, they say all
fam, and females come to thefront push everyone aside, and
(40:17):
in the queer community, itshould be the same, we have to
put the marginalized queercommunity first. So if you are a
queer person, a non binaryperson, a trans person, you get
first line. And I need ourallies to understand that and we
love you. And we would love tohave you there. But unless you
see, yo, we still have ticketsavailable, they haven't sold
(40:41):
minutes, like the last week ortwo. And you're like, man, I am
a straight ally, and I want togive back and I want to show up
for them, then that door is openfor you. But please let queer
people have first choice.
Rebel (40:56):
If you are a straight
partner of a queer person, you
can come Yes. So like, it's notlike queer people at the door
and no one else like if you're,if you're a straight partner of
a queer person, or like astraight, like date of a queer
person, like, obviously, you cancome like, hands down. Also,
(41:19):
there's going to be an option ifyou're a straight person, and
you want to sponsor someone fromthe queer community to go,
there's going to be an option onmy website where you can buy
tickets for people who can'tafford to go because I know that
they're going to people whocan't afford to go because the
tickets are probably going to beabout $50 a piece, just because
(41:40):
it has to cover the event. And Idon't have any money. But I'm
going to put as much as I caninto it. But so it's going to be
about $50 apiece. And so if youare a person who wants to
sponsor a queer person to go,you can do that through my
website as well.
Shove (41:56):
Yes. So when we say
nonprofit, it means that it will
have to cover whateverdecorations and everything.
Thank you pigeon who is donatingthe ring for free that night,
which means that a lot of thismoney will make it to the
longbeach Center.
Rebel (42:12):
Yes. And I really really
want to donate as much as I
possibly can. So it's not likeI'm going like crazy extravagant
with like spending money ondecorations. We want the focus
to be on your rack. Wow. Yeah,on your outfits and like I'm
just gonna buy like a shit tonof tool and make it look like so
DIY dope, AF like, it's gonna beawesome. Yeah. So if you're a
(42:33):
person who wants to donatetowards the queer prom, or like
has something like if you're anorganization or a company that
has something that can help makeit happen, please reach out to
me. My email is queer girl, straights, gates@gmail.com that
would be awesome. I'm definitelylooking for people to volunteer
their time and also to volunteerlike whatever products their
(42:56):
company makes like if you're asmall business or a skate person
and you want to donate for we'redoing giveaway bags or donate
for the prizes. Also, pleasefeel free to reach out to
Shove (43:07):
me if you want to just
donate anything please Venmo
queer girl
Rebel (43:11):
skates and write queer
prom in it so that I know that
it's not that it's not just likemoney.
Shove (43:19):
Yeah, so you might be
saying, but shovel. What the
hell is glam rock? Well, Rebelwas talking about different
ideas about prom and I was likeNo, no, no, no, no, hon This is
a queer prom it must be extraapp and we're like what what
should we do and then it's likeMet Gala and then she started
talking about met girl ideas andI was like it's just not hitting
(43:40):
it's not ending it's not it'snot shovel enough. And then I
was like, wait. Babe loves glamrock.
Rebel (43:48):
I love glam rock.
Shove (43:50):
I was like, but it's
prom. So I said babe, what about
glam rock, Qatar, and she was
Rebel (43:56):
really he really was
Shove (44:01):
so glam rock couture
think Vivienne Westwood think of
David bow we think toolssequins, studs, leather, leather
and silk glitter over the toptease your hair big make it a
foe Hawk shave your head.
Whatever you think like we wentover the top couture we don't
(44:22):
want necessarily pretty we wantpunk rock. Yeah, mixed with
pretty like everything. Theweirder the better. You've
probably beginning to get thisdone. I want you to hit up
thrift stores. I want you to DIYyour own stuff. I
Rebel (44:37):
want something that you
should spend a bunch of money on
an outfit for like get findrandom like fabric and tie it
together. Like get a dress andpin stuff on to it like go crazy
with safety pins, glue onsequins, you know, like do that
Shove (44:57):
if you've ever wanted to
be extra, a F and E See me and
Ravel and I just like alwaysafraid to like leave the house
like that. This is youropportunity to wear the most
outrageous thing, or that youcan skate in. And just be like,
I'm gonna go here and no one'sgonna look at me weird.
Rebel (45:15):
Yeah, it's gonna be
amazing. And, like, I think
especially something that Ireally want to focus on too, is
I really want people to feelempowered to dress. However, in
whatever expression when itcomes to gender expression that
they feel comfortable with, orthey want to like, this is
really, I really want this to bea gender affirming experience
(45:38):
for you. Like, if you're aperson who always felt like they
had to wear dresses, like fuckdresses, like wear whatever you
want, and whatever you havedreamed of, or whatever you're
like, scared of like, this is asafe event. And this is a safe
space for you. And that'sliterally what it's created for.
(46:00):
Like it's literally created forthat. So feel empowered,
Shove (46:05):
let your freak flag fly.
Ha,
Rebel (46:09):
can you tell I'm so
excited. I'm so excited. This is
like, I've been dreaming of thisliterally since before the
pandemic like I had told Pidgin, like two and a half years ago,
like, Hey, I have this idea forlike, a queer prom on
rollerskates. And I reallywanted to happen and no, nothing
had gone through like nothingworked. And this is this is
(46:32):
happening. So yay, excited.
Anyways, so that's a real world.
And if you have any questions, you can throw them down below,
and I'll answer them.
Shove (46:41):
Let's just say that's the
real world. Oh, that's
Rebel (46:44):
the wheel world. My bad,
my bad. Alright, let's go on to
find your skate date.
(47:04):
So in find your skate date, whatwe do is, we connect you to
skaters in your area, or skaterskind of near you who would be
willing to travel to your area.
And what we're doing is we'reconnecting people who just need
like skate friends, skatebuddies, skate romance. And so
if you want us to help you findyour skate date, send us an
(47:27):
email to deer skatedate@gmail.com. And we will read
your bio, if you send us aphoto, we'll post it on our
Instagram and help find youescape date there. So today's
skate date is
Shove (47:44):
Dylan. Dear shovel, I
found you both over locked down
here while I was looking intorollerskating. I apologize for
that. Just kidding. I'm glad youfound us. And you both make me
want to get better so bad.
However, I still stick to thewall at the rink here. So it's
not about being afraid to fallas a person who is into horse
(48:07):
riding. I am so okay to fall.
But it's more of a controllingmy body and coordination thing.
He both make it look soliberating. And I want to be
there. I want to bomb heels withgay abandon. I just wanted to do
it with skill, you know. And sowith that being said, I'd love
(48:29):
to keep up to keep learning toskate with someone who is
patient, but who will push meand yell at me, et cetera, et
cetera. Make sense? Probablynot. I don't know. lol. Anyway,
I'm at queer rat fan onInstagram. So, so that's some
skate part of skate date. out ofthe way, the date bit. I'm
(48:52):
hacking queer, awkward andPaulie. If you like the goofy
goofball, crochet nerd that yousee who is a weak anchor. Please
say hi, I love you. Much loveDylan.
Rebel (49:06):
Oh my god, I just looked
up their Instagram and they are
so cute. Queer rap fan, highlyrecommend reaching out to them.
I don't know where they'relocated. But they look awesome.
So maybe just reach out to themand be like, let's be ski
(49:28):
buddies. Even if it's virtual. Ithink that's awesome.
Shove (49:30):
It is awesome.
Rebel (49:32):
And if you want us to
talk about you on Find your
skate date, just email us atdeer skate date@gmail.com
Shove (49:39):
gear.
This is so random but like I amwearing the most uncomfortable
bra in the world right now. AndI'm like Staring at myself in
(50:00):
the camera and I'm like, itlooks so bad.
Rebel (50:02):
Okay, well, I think that
it probably doesn't look as bad
as you think.
Shove (50:08):
No one's gonna buy this
shirt. Because my saggy boobs.
Oh
Rebel (50:10):
my gosh,
Shove (50:11):
well,
Rebel (50:13):
what section are we on
now?
Shove (50:15):
Dear shovel? What's wrong
with my boobs?
Rebel (50:18):
What happens in your
shovel?
Shove (50:21):
where we answer your
questions and give advice
Rebel (50:24):
and there's nothing wrong
with her boobs.
Shove (50:26):
And we have no right
answers no wrong.
Rebel (50:29):
We just have answers. We
just have opinions. Yeah,
really? I don't even think wecould call them answers. Okay,
so in order to ask a deer shovelquestion, just send a deer
shovel and then whatever yourheart desires in an email to
deer skate date@gmail.com. Sotoday's deer shovel says, Hello.
First off, I'd like to say Iabsolutely adore your podcast.
(50:50):
I've listened to every episodeand legit find it to be the
highlight of my week. You tooare bringing smiles and joy to a
world that is severely lackingin both. So thank you. Now for
the question. I'm a huge foodie.
And with the holiday season soonapproaching, I can't help but
ask who is the chef of thehousehold? What are some of your
favorite dishes slash foods? Andif you could eat one meal for
(51:13):
the rest of your life, whatwould it be? I love this
question. Sorry. I don't have amore serious question. But I
figured it can't hurt to have afun one once in a while. Much
love to you both Liza. Not Lizathe
Shove (51:27):
right way. No. Yeah.
Okay.
Rebel (51:29):
I love that question. And
if you have a question that's as
simple as that we would love toanswer it as well. So
Shove (51:36):
levels cooking makes her
sick. Like she's made herself
sick multiple times. Like it'snot a joke. She thinks
expiration dates aren't real. Idon't think they're real. If
there's things missing, she'lljust decide on something random
to replace it that does not go
Rebel (51:52):
because if you already
started cooking, like I'm not
going to give up on that wholeamount of time that I already
started cooking.
Shove (51:58):
She can follow recipe,
okay? But if it's Thanksgiving,
a miracle happens. And she'slike, I don't know. A master
chef. Would Wolfgang Puck overhere?
Rebel (52:13):
No, I don't know what it
is literally. I host this
Thanksgiving brunch every year Ihaven't for a while but like I
host the Thanksgiving brunch andI make everything from scratch
and it's all so delicious. And Idon't know why I'm so good at it
Shove (52:26):
whenever she tells me she
cooked for me and there's
leftovers I'm always scared. Iwon't eat it so
Rebel (52:32):
yeah, but now Yeah, so
basically so Shove is the chef
for sure for sure for sure. ButI don't know sometimes I have to
fend for myself.
Shove (52:43):
Yeah, because like
cooking was fun during the
pandemic when I like it's slowlyhappening but like the time of
the pandemic when I was workingfrom home and not in school and
had all this extra time it waslike hell yeah let's cook
everything but now I'm likeyou're tired like you don't want
a long day and I like the lastthing you want to do you know?
But
Rebel (53:00):
now because it was the
deal was I clean she cooks and
now I just clean
Shove (53:07):
yeah by cook here in
there.
Rebel (53:11):
And it's very delicious
whenever she does She's so good
at cooking like her dad's achef. Like Chavez incredible a
cooking cleaning sweet one timeshe made this thing there was
nothing in her house like therewas nothing always there was
about there's no food in ourhouse and I was like there's
nothing I'm so hungry. And shegoes into the kitchen and she's
there for like an hour and thenshe comes out with this like
(53:34):
ball. It's like a ball and thenyou want to say a bun and it was
like bread on the outside and itwas this delicious food inside.
And I was like there was nothingin the kitchen. How did you do
that? Anyway So that's just oneof the things that you can do
Shove (53:52):
like cooked up fake me
feet and vegetables and cooked
it with marinara sauce. And Iput it I made dough from scratch
and then I wrapped it to theside and then I washed the egg
wash on top so it was nice andshiny and crystal mountainside
so I
Rebel (54:07):
literally still crave it
to this day like it's so it was
so good. Anyway, so that's alittle taste of what chef can
do. Yeah also like to make likechili Reno's and oh, that's
really good to potato tacos.
That's also really good. Shealso makes really good is it
chili? Killa so you make reallygood No, I've never made this
Oh, that's just something I like
Shove (54:30):
my favorite food even I
don't eat all the time because
then it wouldn't be my favoriteis Indian food I love love love
love some most us and wowchicken masala is really good.
And what is the aloe Gabi?
Rebel (54:47):
Yeah, she's like
obsessed. My favorite food is
sushi.
Shove (54:53):
She never gets tired, so
Rebel (54:55):
good. And I am like a
real sushi person. Not that
you're all fake. Sushi peoplebut like, I like like actual
sushi. I like sashimi. I likeall different types of sushi.
Like the only one I don't reallylike I don't really like. I
don't really like octopusbecause kind of rubbery, but
like, I'll still eat it like Istill like it. I mean like I
(55:18):
love it. Oh, albacore tuna.
Shove (55:23):
If I could eat one meal
for this my life That's a hard
one. I don't think I'd survive.
I could eat like a genre. genre, genre. genre. genre, but like,
maybe, um, I think I could doMexican food for the rest of my
life.
Rebel (55:45):
I feel like you could eat
cheeseburgers for us your life.
You love cheeseburgers.
Shove (55:48):
That would get old rail.

Mexican food or Asian food.

something. I know it sucks. Butlike you have to choose
something.
Shove (56:10):
All right. Um, curry has
a different kinds of curry. So
it's kind of like you'retricking yourself.
Rebel (56:15):
You know what? I would
choose chicken and rice.
Shove (56:19):
I would choose potatoes
because you could cook them
however you want.
Rebel (56:22):
Oh, that's smart potatoes
is a good one. But I would still
I would still probably choosechicken and rice because I feel
like you could add so manydifferent flavors to both of
those things. That it might notalways feel like the same thing.
Only gray so much. Yeah, maybeyou would choose like chicken
and potatoes or like noodles orsomething.
Shove (56:44):
All right. So food.
Rebel (56:46):
Yeah, so that's our
answer. If you have a question
