(00:00):
I feel like after getting educated through other people's
podcasts and through books and just through listening to
experts, I'm like, OK, There's just certain things that I feel
like are non negotiable for me to do with my body and also some
things that I would literally never put near my body again.
(00:20):
What's up guys? It's Kayla Rose, and welcome
back to a very sexy skinny dipping summer.
Today's episode is a little bit different.
I feel like obviously I'm kind of in the Wellness category, but
I don't often talk about my personal opinions around
different Wellness things, mostly because I'm not a fucking
(00:43):
expert. So it keeps me away from it.
But I realize you guys want to know, like, what do I do for my
health and kind of my beliefs? And with all of this being said,
every physical body is so different, so I'm never going to
sit here and be like, this is what you should do for your
body. No, I'm not a fucking doctor.
(01:03):
And even if I was a fucking doctor, a lot of the doctors
that are, you know, trained through the current medical
system, if they don't have discernment, you know, I don't
even know if I trust them, But Ido trust doctors who have gone
through the medical system, who have discernment, who, you know,
believe in holistic practices. Those are my favorite kind of
doctors. But I personally am not a
doctor, not an expert on health. And I feel like even my
(01:25):
assistant listening to this right now because she actually
is incredible with health coaching and everything like I'm
like, please don't judge me Chloe, I love you.
Also just going to plug her pagebecause she is the best recipes
ever. Not so Paleo.
I'm going to drop it below, but she is the best recipes on her
page. You should definitely check it
out. Health Queen.
Love her, but I'm not an expert, but I do have opinions because
(01:48):
I'm a curious person who loves to learn about things.
So I've listened to a lot of podcasts, I've watched a lot of
YouTube videos with experts. I've read books and these are
just kind of my health beliefs that I've personally come to and
my health personal preferences. Like I said, everybody is
different, So what works for me may not work for you.
(02:09):
I'm not saying for you to take this advice and in fact, if you
did take any of this advice, I really do encourage you to have
discernment for you and your ownbody and do the research
yourself. I think researching is lost art,
especially with Chad GBT coming in.
But the truth is like Chad GBT low key makes it easier than
ever to actually find information, which is amazing.
(02:30):
So I would do research yourself for anything that you may apply
to your own life before moving forward.
But let's get into it. OK, I'm Kayla Rose.
This is skinny to Bing. Make sure to just hit the follow
button, hit the subscribe button.
If you're on Spotify, go ahead, comment below if you resonate
with any of these things or if you disagree, 'cause let's
create a world where we can havelike healthy disagreement over
(02:52):
things because that opens up conversation.
And as we open up conversation, that actually leads to more
truth and more integrity, so andmore alignment.
So I think it's important for usto be able to disagree with each
other. So I'm totally open to having a
conversation as long as it's respectful.
And yeah, let's strip down and dive in.
Share this on Instagram, tag me at Sunday's KK at Skinny Dipping
(03:15):
Diaries because it really does help me and the podcast and the
community. If yeah, you share it just
boosts it and shows people that you like listening.
So yeah, let's turn plan and dive in.
I'm excited. OK, number one, I have 8 things
written down. We'll see if other things come
up. But number one, healthy eating
is so important. Like for me, I've always eaten
(03:36):
really clean, but I've learned, you know, through especially
talking to people with mental health struggles around eating,
that healthy eating is important, but stressing out
about what you ate or what you will eat and having a
perfectionist mindset around it is more unhealthy than just
eating the goddamn burger. And for me, I'm just going to
(04:00):
talk with I 'cause I don't know everybody else's life or their
body. But for me personally, I noticed
it is actually worse on my stomach to be stressed, which
creates cortisol in my body, which really, you know, being
stressed over what to eat or when to eat or if what I'm
eating is healthy enough for me.I like to eat healthy, but I
(04:22):
also like to have balance and realize sometimes I just need to
feed myself and I need to not stress out about what I'm
feeding myself because the emotional stress is causing more
inflammation than the actual food sometimes.
And that emotional stress leading to that inflammation,
you know, inflammation is what causes disease and sickness and
just your gut not being so happywith you.
(04:43):
So for me personally, I like to eat healthy, but I've learned to
create this balance where I actually have trained my taste
buds to like eating healthy. But I still will always eat the
dessert. I'll always eat the burger and
I'll make sure that I'm fed. And for me personally, like I
struggle with eating in the morning sometimes I think a lot
(05:04):
of people aren't hungry in the morning and you know, that can
lead to stress. But also I think it's just, you
know, our body needs some time to wake up.
But I know that I need to eat protein before I have caffeine.
And because of that, you know, Iused to have like avocado toast
with eggs and that was like my go to meal and I just like got
(05:25):
so sick of it. And I honestly got the egg ick
and I was like like, I don't really like eggs anymore, even
though they are a good form of protein.
I've realized, OK, I was not eating breakfast because I felt
like I had to have protein in mybreakfast.
And then I was just ending up like forgetting to eat or
getting anxious about it. And the truth is I've been just
(05:46):
feeding myself like this sourdough English muffin from
the farmers market with this like whipped local honey
cinnamon butter that me and my boyfriend made.
And it's been so simple in the morning.
And the truth is, it's been better for me to just be like,
I'm not going to stress out about having protein in my meal
and eating healthy because rightnow I'm in a season where I just
need to kind of eat. And knowing that there will be
(06:09):
another season again that I go into eating really healthy
breakfast and I go through that cycle again.
And just honoring whatever season and chapter and cycle
that I'm in is really important for me.
And what it's made me realize isjust like, eat the damn toast
rather than overthinking about it.
For myself personally, it's likerather than overthinking and
then not eating, 'cause I need protein and I want it to be
(06:29):
healthy and everything. Perfectionism being controlling.
No, just eat the goddamn toast. Feed yourself, girl.
I get hangry. So I realized that healthy
eating is so important and it's something I value and something
I always consciously choose whenI can.
And at the same time I realize it's not worth stressing over
(06:49):
what I'm eating, so I just don't.
And yeah, OK #2 you couldn't payme to take birth control again,
is what I wrote down. This is for me personally.
And, you know, everybody is so incredibly different.
I'm not going to sit here and tell you that birth control is
the devil like some other Wellness people will.
(07:09):
I'm just going to tell you what it did for me personally.
For me personally, it killed my libido.
Libido being, you know, your sexual desire.
And I lost my period about 7 years into taking my birth
control. I was pretty irresponsible with
it and would like skip periods. So definitely on me for that.
I need to take accountability for that aspect.
(07:30):
But it did ruin my libido, whichis it's known to do for so many
women and so many people who take birth control or have a
period. And yeah, I absolutely murdered
my libido and I didn't want to have sex with my partner and it
was my birth control because I've been off it three years now
and she's finally back, baby, after healing my hormones for
(07:53):
three years. Like I have my libido again,
like I'm sexually charged again. And it feels so good because I
wasn't for so long and kind of felt like I was broken and it
really was just my hormones justbeing so suffocated and so
suppressed by birth control. Because the truth is, what I
have learned from the book The 5th Vital Sign is that your
(08:15):
birth control actually creates like a fake period.
It's not your real menstrual cycle.
It's a fake forced period. And for me personally, I never
want to cut my body off from my natural rhythms ever again
because I've realized that my menstrual cycle is so the way
that my soul communicates to my body and it is a spiritual
(08:37):
experience every month going through the four phases, Truly
as a woman, I've realized it allows me to up level and
alchemize so much faster becauseI am on my natural menstrual
cycle and I am synced up with the moon.
We love the wind. I love the wind so much, but I'm
synced up with the moon. I ovulate on the full moon, I
(08:58):
bleed on the new moon. I've been the opposite way
before. But I think depending where
you're at in life, it changes. And right now I ovulate on the
full moon, which I have a lot ofenergy during those times.
But for me personally, like I love being in tune with my
natural cycles and my natural rhythms and I feel so much
healthier. My body off of birth control and
my libido has returned. But with that all being said,
(09:21):
there is nuance to all of this because I do believe in birth
control when it comes to the societal structure and actual
legislation. Like I personally don't want to
take birth control for me and for my body.
I do believe everybody should have accessibility to either
affordable or free birth control.
I just definitely stand by that it should be a choice and that
(09:44):
choice should be protected. And that birth control is
ultimately down to the individual who is taking it.
I don't personally like it. You couldn't pay me to take it
again. But I do feel like our rights
around having birth control should be highly protected.
And also everything around birthcontrol should be studied way
way, way, way way more because they know.
They know these things happen. You lose your libido, your
(10:07):
emotions are suppressed. Yeah, they know these things,
but they just give it to you without explaining it to you at
all. They gave it to me when I was 17
without telling me at all what the effects could be.
So that's not cool. That's not cool.
We don't like that. But yeah, those are my thoughts
on birth control #3 these are mygo to supplements because
(10:31):
everybody's always asking what are my go to supplements?
I've realized for myself personally that tinctures work
best for me. I do not like pill supplements.
They make me feel nauseous, theymake me feel sick, and they've
shown to not even have a good absorption rate in your body.
So for me personally, I use tinctures and that's the way
that I get any supplements. I am a believer that you know a
(10:53):
lot of things you should be ableto get from your diet.
But I think because of society and the way food is transpired,
it's OK to take some supplements.
But for me personally, I don't like to overdo it because I
think that's not healthy either.Kind of being addicted to that
and needing that and not being able to be like, OK, what does
my body need? But I have a couple things that
I love to take and I take them very intentionally.
(11:16):
And I think having three things is like the perfect number.
I think anything more than 3 is a little too extreme.
I love colidosol silver. This is my go to for immunity.
Don't ask me why. Don't ask me to tell you about
the science. I don't fucking know.
But Colidosol silver, the liquidtincture, you hold it under your
tongue for 30 seconds. Literally.
I don't know if I've got I don'teven I want to knock on wood,
(11:38):
but I don't think I've gotten sick since I've started taking
that. Like it is so incredible for
your immune system. It's also incredible for like
wounds. I've heard if I feel like I'm
getting a little scratchiness inmy throat, I'll like let it sit
on my lymph nodes in my throat and I feel like it literally
does de inflamed them. So that's my go to.
(11:58):
I also take Kick ass immunity which is a tincture that you can
probably get at any health food store near you.
Kick ass immunity is my fave when I feel something strongly
coming on. I'll take that like multiple
times a day if I wasn't in the sun so much.
I actually have amazing vitamin D levels from being born and
raised in Hawaii. But if I wasn't in the sun as
(12:19):
much, the number one thing I would recommend for people to
take is vitamin D supplements ofsome sort.
A tincture would be my preference.
But I definitely think that vitamin D is huge just for your
mood. And if you struggle with
depression, you should definitely be taking vitamin D.
It's just so big with our emotional regulation and our
mood and how we feel about ourselves.
So get on that Vitamin DI, don'ttake it.
(12:40):
But if I wasn't in the sun all the time, I would.
The other thing that I really like is having Real Salt with
your waters. I do salt with like lemon, but
my friends been having me like take little shots of salt
because we don't realize that we're sweating out so much
sodium in our body that we're losing so much sodium every time
(13:01):
that we work out and we're trying to hydrate ourselves with
water. But we what we need to hydrate
ourselves with sometimes is actually electrolytes like
sodium. So I think Real Salt is the best
way to go. None of like the shitty
electrolyte packets with all of the junk in it.
I just like Real Salt. I think it's literally the
company's called like Real Salt or Celtic salt is good too.
(13:22):
I also think for me, I like using herbal teas.
That's what I've been getting into recently and that's been
really helpful as well as like my saffron drink that I talked
about last week. I absolutely love.
It's a Ken Euphorks drink and for me, saffron just really
boosts my mood. So I think saffron is absolutely
incredible if you're looking forsomething with your mental
health. And in the past when I've been
really low with my mental health, something that I'll take
(13:43):
is like Altheanine, which helps with anxiety.
And also I'll take 5H HTP or HTP5.
And I do this because it really helps with the serotonin
production in your body. So yeah, for me personally, when
I've had low seasons where I feel like I'm in a dark night of
a soul, I will take those and those are pills.
(14:03):
But right now I'm not really in that period.
So I'm just taking my go to tinctures, mainly my TS and my
colitis silver and my salt. OK #4 Skin care is what we put
in our body. This has to do with your skin
and my health beliefs around your skin.
For me, I feel like the way thatI eat really impacts my skin,
(14:23):
how glowy it looks, how clear itlooks.
And yeah, I just noticed that skin care is also what we put in
our body. And my facial girl always says
that. And also vice versa.
What we put in our skin goes into our body.
So I'm not using anything like super chemically to put on my
face. I know it's different if
(14:43):
somebody has certain kinds of acne that maybe, you know, it
does get cleared up with more scientific type medical skin
care. But for me personally, because I
don't struggle with that, I really like to keep it super
simple. I use Evan Healey right now and
they're just an amazing natural brand that I absolutely love.
And yeah, I don't know, I try not to have like, I'm not like
(15:08):
super strict about it, but I trynot to have like super gross
additives in my food at all. So it's like, why would I put
all of that in my skin if it's just going to go in my body?
That's kind of where my head is at with all of that.
OK #5 is my fave saltwater sunshine movement is the Holy
Trinity. Saltwater sunshine movement is
(15:32):
the Holy Trinity. This is where I feel the
healthiest, the most glowing, the most beautiful.
This is where my gut feels the best.
It's like saltwater and sunshineis literally everything.
When people are like, what's your health routine?
I'm like saltwater and sunshine. If I'm sick, I go to the
saltwater and I physically like inhale the ocean.
I know that might be so silly, but I'm like trying to clear my
nasal cavities. And then sunshine is so
(15:54):
incredibly healing. Like I said, the vitamin D
before is such an important vitamin for you to get.
We love sunshine. Sunshine is so incredibly
healing. And then of course, movement.
Movement just has been proven and shown scientifically to
boost your mood. And it's a healer for anxiety
and a healer for depression. They've just shown that.
(16:14):
So salt water, sunshine and movement are my go TOS.
Number six, that wind came back.Number six of my health personal
preferences, Protein before caffeine.
I don't always do it, but I knowthat my body is happy when I
listen. Protein before caffeine, it's
true. It's so incredibly important to
(16:38):
make sure you're setting your gut microbe up, to make sure
you're setting your gut microbiome up for the day in the
healthiest, best way. Yeah, take care of yourself
because 90% of your serotonin isactually created in your gut,
serotonin being your kind of happy chemical.
So when your gut is happy, your mind and your mental health is
also happy. It's all connected #7 of my
(16:59):
health personal preferences is that I've noticed that my blood
sugar really deeply impacts my mood.
So if I like forget to eat and then my blood sugar drops, it
makes me crazy. Like if it feels like I'm
getting hijacked, like Kayla is no longer in the room with us,
like when my blood sugar drops, I literally feel incredibly
(17:19):
hijacked. So for me, like having really
healthy snacks like chomps around, which is just like
protein or like the Maui venisonsticks are so incredibly good.
I know they're expanding. They're not just here, they're a
lot of places. All the butterflies.
Sorry I got distracted or havinglike some sort of protein bar I
feel like is really great. I just need to like have snacks
(17:41):
around me. I love chips and salsa.
I don't know, I just need to feed myself like every three
hours pretty much. And I just notice how my blood
sugar impacts me and also impacts my period.
So I've noticed that if I let myblood sugar be super up and down
spiking during the month, my period's a lot worse and my
luteal face is a lot harsher with my emotions.
(18:01):
But if I stay consistent for a couple months, taking care of my
blood sugar and eating high protein and just really feeding
myself and not letting my blood sugar drop like that, what I've
realized is that my period is better, my luteal face is
better. I don't feel as anxious.
Yeah, it's just overall a lot better my entire health,
(18:21):
including my menstrual health when my blood sugar is taken
care of. And I just try to keep it
balanced and, and I have to juststay conscious and mindful and
feed myself often so that that doesn't happen.
And #8 is that blue light is damaging.
You can pull up a million studies to prove this.
And of course, like, I don't do great with this all the time.
(18:41):
But I do have really good blue light glasses.
I think it's called solar ray light.
And they're red, blue light glasses.
And you need to do your researcharound blue light glasses and
make sure they actually work because the cheap ones don't
actually work. Like, do your research, get ones
that actually work for you because, yeah, it's impacting
your sleep. And it's impacting your brain
(19:03):
and I mean your brain and your sleep.
Those are like the two most important things for your
health. Honestly, I love this little
short episode with you guys. The video kind of cut off my
phone died. But I love you guys so much.
And let me know your thoughts onthis.
I mean, if you guys have any questions too about like other
personal preferences I have. Oh, this is another personal
(19:24):
preference I have that I absolutely love is I'm trying to
switch out all my clothes that are like nylon and polyester
like that is literally plastic going into your skin anytime you
wear that honestly. And I've been trying to buy way
more like organic and there are good like organic bamboo and
organic cotton cheaper underwears on Amazon.
(19:46):
So I think there is an affordable way to do that.
I think there is, you know, a common misconception that it's,
you know, super expensive to shop organic, which it is for a
lot of brands, but not always. And you can always buy second
hand, do a little deep pop, but just making sure something's
like 100% cotton or silk or yeah, I just think that it's so
(20:11):
incredibly important or bamboo. And I just love wearing brands
that feel good to my skin and good to my body.
And that's just like another health shake I have.
But also I'm not like super strict about any of these
things. I think the key is to have these
values and have these standards and follow them, but also not to
(20:31):
stress out about them or not to make it your whole personality.
Like these are just things that I personally live by and I'm not
going to judge anybody if they don't do it.
And that's just like something that I live by is like
everybody's personal preferencesfor their health and their body
is 100% their choice on what they should do.
So these are mine. I hope you guys enjoy them.
I'm going to go pick up some Masha right now for my retreat.
(20:55):
That's where I'm off to. And I'm going to go on a little
solo sunset date. So happy skinny dipping summer.
Bye, guys.
