I was led to write this piece approximately 3 weeks ago. I did not even give it a title because I was not inspired to attach one to it. And then...
I sat in on a community meeting this past Tuesday, July 15th. What I witnessed was truly astounding and as I was preparing an episode for tomorrow-it dawned on me that the untitled piece from several weeks ago was ideal for what I witnessed.
"The Heart Don't Lie"
lays out what happens when persons are only concerned with their selfish desires. Supposed friendships are easily cast aside and the needs of others are quickly discounted. As I stated-I witnessed it with my 2 eyes and heard them with my own big ears.
Neighbors were so intent to express their dismay and divulge what was in their hearts that those who feared and allegedly despise any form of censorship lined up in droves to express their supposed individual thoughts.
It was more than apparent that there was collusion at work.
Their prepared dissertations ventured into comments about confederate monuments, the renaming of military bases and a number of other things that strayed from the issue at hand. Their banter became increasingly disturbing because it seemed to be directed towards the Black attendees-none of whom were instrumental in bringing the issue to the Homeowners Association (HOA). However, a number of the Black residents were in support of the petition because of the incessant playing of specific political programming at the clubhouse and the fear that several verbal altercations were the precursor to actual physical assaults.
I know that alleged friendships have ended due to the rhetoric that was dispensed. However, I remain hopeful that there will be a softening of hearts and that the words of the 2nd highest commandment prevail...LOVE THY NEIGHBOR!
OUR SPIRIT...LIVES!
PEACE!
