Exciting changes are brewing at Small Lake City podcast! We're thrilled to announce our first-ever live podcast recording happening Friday, September 19th at Flanker at Gateway Downtown. The event kicks off at 8 PM and will be followed by an incredible after-party right at Flanker. Space is limited, so grab your tickets through the link in our show notes. While we're keeping our special guest under wraps for now, trust me – you won't want to miss this historic night.

For those looking to show some Salt Lake pride, we've just launched a collection of Utah-themed stickers featuring local favorites like funeral potatoes, dirty soda, and "the whale." They're perfect for water bottles, laptops, or anywhere you want to display your Utah connections. We're running a buy-three-get-one-free special, so now's the perfect time to stock up. Keep an eye on our Instagram for more merchandise dropping soon!

This weekend's episode features a fascinating conversation with Liddy Huntsman, daughter of former governor and presidential candidate John Huntsman Jr. Liddy shares her unconventional journey from growing up in the governor's mansion to breaking family expectations by pursuing comedy in New York, living in Haiti, and ultimately returning to Salt Lake to run for local office. It's a candid look at finding your own path while maintaining deep connections to your hometown. The episode offers unique insights into Salt Lake's political landscape through the eyes of someone who's seen it from multiple perspectives. Listen wherever you get your podcasts and let us know your thoughts!

Want to connect with other Small Lake City listeners? RSVP for our live event, follow us on social media, and don't forget to check out our conversation with Marcio Buffalo, now head brewmaster at Mountain West Cider. Thanks for being part of our community – we can't wait to see you in person!

Speaker 1 (00:00):
What is up everybody and welcome back to another
Tuesday update.
It is me, eric Nielsen, thehost of the Small Lake City
podcast, and I have a ton ofannouncements this week, so
buckle up.
First, and the one I'm mostexcited about, is we are having
the first live Small Lake Citypodcast recording.
It's going to be Friday, september 19th at Flanker at

(00:23):
Gateway Downtown, starting at 8PM.
Um, there's a link in bio toRSVP, as well as in the show
notes for this show.
You are going to be pumped whenI announce who the guest is,
but make sure to RSVP, tell yourfriends.
And the best part is there'sgoing to be an amazing after
party at Flanker itself.
So I'm excited you should beexcited and excited to see all

(00:55):
of you there.
Uh, I wish I could fiteverybody, but unfortunately we
are limited.
So make sure to get ticketsearly.
Come, hang out, make somefriends, have a great cider.
Listen to the episode I recordedsemi-recently with Marcio
Buffalo, who is now the headbrewmaster at Mountain West
Cider.
So definitely check that out.
Also, in case you haven'tchecked yet, launched a bunch of

(01:17):
stickers on the website, fromfuneral potatoes to dirty soda,
the whale and more.
So go check those out.
It's buy three, get one free.
So if you need to get some foryou, your friends, your family,
your mom, your sister, your dog,for your laptop, for your water
bottle, your car, whatever itmight be, there's definitely a
sticker there for you, so makesure to check that out.
Also have some more merchcoming up soon, so make sure to

(01:40):
check here and Instagram forthose announcements.
Also just released this week'sepisode.
Apologize for being a coupledays late.
Got an opportunity to go downto Southern Utah last minute and
go to one of my favorite places, so I took that up and
unfortunately didn't have timeto edit this weekend.
But that is now live whereveryou like to listen to podcasts,

(02:02):
but also want to announce thisweek's guest.
So this week's guest is someonewho was born and raised in Salt

(02:45):
Lake, moved away and hasrecently come back.
They come from a prettyprominent family in Salt Lake
and, ironically, was one of mysister's best friends in high
school and I was really goodfriends with her younger brother
in high school as well.
Her name is Liddy Huntsman yes,the daughter of presidential
candidate and former governor, john Huntsman Jr.
And she has now moved back toSalt Lake and running for local

(03:08):
office because she wants to beable to make a impact on the
community that she knows andloves.
So it's a great conversationabout not only her life of being
in high school while her dadwas a governor and living in the
governor's mansion, but takinga detour from what the family
typically expected of her beinga black sheep moving to New York
to do comedy, marrying someone, moving to Haiti for a few years

(03:31):
and now moving back.
So there's a lot that we cover,a lot of different facets to it
, but it was a greatconversation and catching up
with her.
So that will be releasing thisweekend wherever you like to
listen.
So have a great week.
Come to bookish tonight, markyour calendar for the live event
and look in the show notes forlinks for both of those, but I
will see you with Liddy Huntsmanthis weekend.

Cardiac Cowboys

Cardiac Cowboys

The heart was always off-limits to surgeons. Cutting into it spelled instant death for the patient. That is, until a ragtag group of doctors scattered across the Midwest and Texas decided to throw out the rule book. Working in makeshift laboratories and home garages, using medical devices made from scavenged machine parts and beer tubes, these men and women invented the field of open heart surgery. Odds are, someone you know is alive because of them. So why has history left them behind? Presented by Chris Pine, CARDIAC COWBOYS tells the gripping true story behind the birth of heart surgery, and the young, Greatest Generation doctors who made it happen. For years, they competed and feuded, racing to be the first, the best, and the most prolific. Some appeared on the cover of Time Magazine, operated on kings and advised presidents. Others ended up disgraced, penniless, and convicted of felonies. Together, they ignited a revolution in medicine, and changed the world.
