Welcome back to Small Screen Couch Commentary with Alex and Billy! This week, we're diving into House of the Dragon Season 2, Episode 5, titled "Regent." Get ready for our discussion on the latest episode!
At King's Landing, Criston Cole's army returns triumphantly, parading Meleys' head and attributing the victory to Aegon. However, the gravely wounded king is discreetly brought to the Red Keep, leaving the public unaware of his critical condition. Grand Maester Orwyle does his best to treat Aegon, but his condition moving forward is uncertain. The council at King's Landing is now left with no "leader" as someone tries to step up to the head of the table, but another is ultimately appointed by the other members.
Meanwhile, Corlys and Rhaenyra privately mourn Rhaenys before returning to their duties. Rhaenyra faces a council that dismisses her authority, but she reasserts herself, demanding answers. She plans to name Corlys as her Hand, seeking stronger allies.
Jace takes it upon himself to negotiate with House Frey, promising control of Harrenhal without Rhaenyra's consent. Alex expresses his concern for a secret meeting with the Frey's. Longtime Game of Thrones fans will know why. Meanwhile, Daemon struggles with his leadership at Harrenhal, and is still under some influence that continually make him have hallucinations. Alex and Billy both agree this story line needs to have some sort of finality soon and they debate whether Daemon is still one of their favorite characters.
With both sides of Team Black and Team Green preparing for their next moves, who will come out on top in the next battle and the ensuing war? Tune in to hear Alex and Billy's full breakdown, laughs, and wild theories on Small Screen Couch Commentary!
