(00:23):
the podcast for you.
Together, we'll avoid burnoutand step into being the smartest
, wealthiest stylist that we canbe.
Hello, welcome back to thesmart, wealthy stylist podcast.
Today's episode is going to beover.
Why can't I stick with anything?
You know having a lack ofmotivation and whether it's

(00:46):
financial, physical.
You know goals you've setbehind the chair.
Why can't you stick with it?
Why can't you find themotivation to just keep going
and reach those goals?
I've came up with a list ofthings that I personally
struggled with and then, afterdoing quite a bit of research,
found out that so many otherpeople struggle with that also.
You know, there could be anumber of reasons why you

(01:08):
struggle to stick with certainthings.
It could be due to a lack ofmotivation or interest, a fear
of failure or success.
There's underlying mentalhealth issues, or simply not
having a clear enough goal orplan in place.
It may be helpful to identifythe specific reasons why you
have difficulty sticking withthese things and then work on

(01:31):
addressing those underlyingfactors.
Also, setting smallerachievable goals and celebrating
progress along the way can helpbuild momentum and increase
your chances of success.
So, for me, the biggest one waslack of motivation.
I always felt, like you knowthese early morning workouts, i

(01:56):
get up at four every day.
There has been, you know, maybethree weeks since January that
I have taken off to just reset, sleep and get rest, because I
know that rest is equally asimportant for your body as
working out and being productiveand all those things.
So when it came to lack ofmotivation for me, i had heard a

(02:17):
quote that said dedication overmotivation, and what that meant
for me was that, by decidingwhat you want to do and sticking
with it, you're deciding foryourself to dedicate whatever
your goal is and reaching it.
You can reach your goal and onthose days that it gets super,

(02:37):
super hard and you just reallydon't want to, you have to say,
okay, this is my why, this iswhy I have to do this and I am
choosing myself and I'm going toreach my goal.
I have decided and dedicatedmyself to this journey and it's
not about motivation, becausemotivation goes away.
There's a lot of times whereyou aren't going to feel

(02:58):
motivated.
That's when your big why comesin and you have to say this is
my why and I am going to reachmy goal because I'm dedicated to
myself and I'm dedicated to myvision.
You have to figure out whatyour why is and stick with it.
And on those hard days, speakpositive to yourself and choose.

(03:18):
You Choose to finish what youstarted and when you feel like
you just can't do it anyway, having your why is so super
important because it will pullyou through all the different
phases of your journey.
It's exciting in the beginningand you're going to reach your
why and you're just super pumped.

(03:40):
It goes into wow, this istaking a long time.
This is a lot harder than Ithought.
It would be a lot easier togive up, but as long as you have
a strong why.
For me, my whole debt payoffjourney and stuff this started
back in October of last year.
In the beginning, i didn't havea choice.

(04:02):
I'm like this is what I have todo.
I don't have another option.
As you move along, you think,oh, i could go buy this or that.
I'm telling you.
I'm like, no, i'm not going todo that.
This is.
I have made a decision formyself and I have to stick with
it, period.
And if you find weak points, like maybe your journey's to pay

(04:26):
off debt too, cut up thosecredit cards.
Hide it.
You know, do things to notenable yourself to fail.
I even went as far to deleteall my automatic payment
information on all online things.
I deleted my Apple wallet, youknow.
I knew that my Amazon creditcard was a huge weak point for
me because it just made it sosimple to just buy whatever.

(04:48):
So I deleted that out of mywallet, i canceled that credit
card and after I had paid it offand I was just like, no, this
is the end, i'm done with this.
This is a weak point for me andI'm moving on.
So moving on to the next onefear of failure or fear of

(05:10):
success.
You know, not everyone's justafraid, but a lot of people are
like, okay, well, what if I dosucceed?
and I have all the you know allthese people looking at me or I
, you know I am debt free.
And then what?
I've always just been enslavedin debt?
or what if I do reach my peakphysical self and I don't know

(05:31):
what to do with that.
You know what if I succeed andthen I fall back?
or fear is just a tactic of thedevil?
He wants to steal, kill anddestroy your life, and I think
that fear is always so loud andso amplified in our minds
because the enemy wants to keepus condemned and imprisoned.

(05:52):
And the first thing that you cando is recognize your fears and
then write them down.
And then, next to those, i wantyou to write down the very
worst outcome.
So maybe your fear is becominga hairstylist educator, and you
know that's your goal.

(06:13):
You really want to educateother stylists, but your fear is
that you're not going to givethem what they want, or you.
The content is not as good asthey were expecting.
Well, what's the worst thingthat could happen?
They could not recommend you totheir friends or they could

(06:36):
just not take another class fromyou.
But what's the best outcomeUnderneath the worst outcome?
I want you to write the bestoutcome.
Your content's amazing.
They tell all of their friends, you gain a huge online
following.
You supplement your income.
You can quit working behind thechair because you're making so
much as an educator.

(06:56):
You know, whenever you look atwhat's the worst that could
happen and what's the best thatcan happen, usually the best
ends up happening, not the worst.
Or maybe it's as simple asyou're wanting to do a price
increase but you're scared thatall your clients are gonna leave
you.
You know you could write afraidto do a price increase The

(07:17):
worst outcome.
Your clients leave The bestoutcome.
They have no problem payingwhat you're worth.
They are supportive.
They still refer their friendsand family to you.
You know, and maybe I know, forme, when I finally implemented a
price increase in my business, the people that left just made
room for people who trulyappreciate me and my business

(07:39):
And I ended up having evenbetter clients than the ones
that left And I doubled myincome.
So you know, i mean that fearwas irrelevant And that was a
huge fear of mine.
I mean that was absolutelycrippling to me.
I mean I had hives before.
I told my clients and I stillget a little fearful of telling

(08:00):
my clients in person like, hey, just so you know there's gonna
be a price increase.
I had to restructure again.
This is where I'm at, and notover explaining, because a lot
of times I'd be like, yeah, youknow the cost of goods is this
much and da, da, da, da, da, da,da, da da.
No, no, you just say I have todo a price increase.
This is what it's gonna be, andif that's not in your budget, i

(08:22):
have some stylist that I canrefer you out to Period.
You have to be confident behindthat statement because you know
you're giving into fear whenyou're over explaining.
The next one is mental orphysical health issues.
Depression, anxiety and ADHDcan all cause a lack of

(08:44):
motivation, and do not be afraidto reach out for help.
Sometimes our bodies just can'tregulate the way that they were
meant to.
You know, in today's day andage we're infiltrated with
chemicals and you know all ofthese electric devices and
there's literally preservativesand chemicals in everything that

(09:06):
we eat.
Unless you're buying or growingyour own food, buying from the
farmer's market, buying organic,i mean, we're just infiltrated
with it.
It's just the day and age thatwe live in.
All of that stuff can mentallyand physically set our bodies
off.
Maybe it's a genetic thing,maybe it's.
You know there's so manydifferent factors that go into

(09:28):
mental and physical health Andyou know there's past traumas or
you just have to figure out.
What do you think is causingyour lack of motivation.
Do you feel like it's a mentalproblem Or do you feel like it's
a physical problem?
You know, physical wise chronicinflammation, blood sugar

(09:49):
problems, hormone issues thosecan all cause lack of motivation
also.
But a statistic that I saw thatwas absolutely shocking was
that 14.8 million people a yearsuffer from at least one
depressive episode annually.
So don't think you're alone ifyou're feeling depressed or that

(10:09):
you're having mental healthissues.
This is a worldwide thing.
There are so many peoplestruggling with it.
But, you know, i think thestigma around getting a
therapist is totally out thewindow these days And there are
so many people that are willingto help and, you know, are there
with arms wide open, ready tohelp you work through your

(10:29):
problems and figure out whatexactly the root cause of your
problems are.
And I know that.
You know, for me, i have beenstruggling with just being tired
.
I, you know, i've been workingout since January.
I still wasn't losing weightAnd so I went to the doctor and
I found out that I they thinkthat I have insulin resistance.

(10:51):
Well, insulin resistance is,you know, there's not really a
true treatment for it, butthere's lots of medications that
you can take to try to helpwith it.
And so they put me on somethingand you know, i've only been on
it for like five days and I canalready tell a difference.
I sleep better.
I was actually able to take anap midday And, if you know me,

(11:15):
i cannot nap.
I try to take a nap and I justcan't, and so that was so nice.
I took two naps this weekendand you know I can feel like my
body is working for me.
My inflammation's already less.
So I truly think it was aphysical thing.
My body wasn't doing what it'ssupposed to be doing.

(11:37):
So you know, if you needmedication, get on some
medication.
I am all for healing naturally,if possible through food and
supplements, and I've been doingall that for a really long time
and I still just was havingsome struggles And I think that

(11:58):
hopefully this will be my curefor that And, you know, actually
seeing some progress in my bodyafter working so hard for so
long, i think will be monumentalin my mental health journey as
I see my physical healthimproving.
Another point is you identify asquote unquote I am unmotivated,

(12:22):
or I just can't find motivationor I can't stick with anything.
The words that you speak haveso much power over your life,
and how you think about yourselfgoes a really long way.
If you identify with I justhave no motivation, you will
become that You have to changeyour thoughts to.

(12:45):
I am motivated, i can do this,i am able and I am capable.
I will reach my goals.
And so whenever you think aboutyourself and who you are and
what your goals are, you know, just speak kindly to yourself
and speak kindly about yourselfto others.

(13:05):
I, you know, i do hairstyle andwhen people are in my chair and
they, you know, they're friendswith me on Facebook and they
kind of see that I get up earlyand I do all these things and
they're like how do you do it?
You know, and my answer isalways, you know, dedication
over motivation.

(13:25):
I am just, i am dedicated tomyself and the goal that I have
in place and this is what I haveto do to get there.
And they're always like wow,you know.
So just speaking kindly aboutyourself to others is also such
a powerful thing And I don'tknow why in this culture, we do
this whole like negative runaround thing.

(13:47):
You know, if someone gives you acompliment, you're like, oh
yeah, well, you know I'm reallynot that motivated and I'm just
kind of winging it and, you know, own it.
When someone gives you acompliment on you know seeing
those early morning workouts orseeing the inches fall off, or
you know, seeing you succeed inyour business and leveling up

(14:07):
your game behind the chair, don't blow it off.
Take those compliments and sayyou know, thank you, i've been
working really hard at that andI'm just choosing to do better
for myself.
And when you own thosecompliments, they truly take
root in your soul.
You're giving yourself a pat onthe back through other people's
kind words.

(14:28):
Don't downgrade yourself anddon't just identify as who you
once were.
Identify yourself as who you'regoing to be, who you are
becoming, who your end goal is.
Identify as that Because, atthe end of the day, we all want
to be better And I know, for me,i you know.

(14:50):
Every day I say to myself I amincreasing in abundance, success
and wealth and in love, and Iinspire those around me to do
the same.
That's my daily mantra that Isay to myself, because I am
believing that I am expanding inall of those things and that I

(15:12):
inspire others to do better forthemselves too.
And by believing that sayingfor myself, i can see it taking
effect in myself and how I talkto others and how I accept
compliments, because I used tobe one of those people that
would just be like oh yeah, youknow, i know, look at you.
You know, turn that complimentaround on someone else.

(15:34):
No, own it.
Let it take root in your souland truly own who you are
becoming.
Every day is a step closer towho you wanna be And start
speaking to yourself.
Whatever it is that you'rewanting to do, you know, i am
debt free.
I am successful behind thechair.

(15:54):
My podcast is a success.
This book I'm writing is goingto be a New York Times
bestseller.
You know, whatever your dreamsare, whatever your aspirations
are, whether it's behind thechair, in your personal life,
whatever it is write it down andidentify as that.

(16:16):
And, last but not least, you arenot aiming high enough.
So as humans, we typically willnot set our goals high enough.
You know, for me, whenever itcomes to goal setting, i had to
be taught how to set goals, because I had never really done
that before.

(16:37):
I didn't know what that lookedlike.
And if you go back to my goalsetting podcast episode.
I walk you through how to dothis.
But you know, just saying I'mdebt free, that's not a big
enough goal.
You need to get specific andyou need to aim super high.
And yes, it's a longer timebefore you get that return.

(17:02):
But if you set your goal wayhigher than what you think like
you need to set it at least 10times higher than what you think
you're capable of you will Findmore motivation because your
goals are further away.
Now some people Thrive betteron like setting smaller goals

(17:23):
because then you reach your goalfaster.
That's not a problem.
You can set milestones alongthe way, but make sure that your
goals are big.
I am writing a book.
It's called stupid brokestylist.
Our journey to smart, wealthystylist.
And and My mom was like so whatare you, you know, hoping for

(17:45):
your book?
and I said you know what?
let's shoot for a New YorkTimes bestseller.
And I'm not even gonna say that, i'm not gonna believe that
that's not gonna happen.
Why not set my goal that high?
There are a ton of beauty forbeauty professionals in this
world and maybe it will helpjust enough people that it will
become one.
Why not, you know, and with mydebt payoff journey on my

(18:08):
goal-setting Episode, when Iwent through and did that
exercise, my goal is I amdebt-free, with a hundred
thousand dollars sitting insavings.
Why is that not impossible?
You know I, i am going to makethis happen.
Will it take a long time?
Yes, you know, i've paid off.
We're up to like forty fivethousand dollars that we've paid

(18:30):
off in debt since October.
So I am checking off those milemarkers.
Every ten thousand dollars Wecheck off a mile marker.
You know, this is our journeyand we are paying stuff off and
I'm just so excited, you know.
So Set your goals for the moon.

(18:50):
I mean set your goals out ofthis world.
Just Don't be reserved.
You are worth it and I knowthat your goals are just as
important as my goals, whateverthey may be.
I Truly believing you and Ibelieve that you can reach them.
And You know when it comes timeto actually grinding and doing

(19:14):
the work, and you know thatday-to-day mundane thing, choose
dedication over motivation.
What's your why?
stick to it.
You owe it to yourself toovercome those fears and truly
conquer whatever it is that youwant to do for yourself and for
your life.
So, to wrap it up, i'm going togive you five actionable steps
