If you're a hairstylist lookingfor these things, then this is

(00:23):
the podcast for you.
Together, we'll avoid burnoutand step into being the smartest
, wealthiest stylist that we canbe.
Welcome back to the smart, wealthy stylist podcast.
Today's episode is going to beabout course creation and how to
create your own online course.

(00:45):
I know, for me and so many otherhairstylists, we have something
that we want to share or we hada problem that we just couldn't
find the answer to, and so weproblem solved and we created
the answer to our own problem.
Well, when you are solving yourown pain points, you can

(01:08):
probably imagine that someoneelse is probably having the same
pain points that you are.
So something that is reallycool in today's day and age is
that we have the opportunity tobe able to share our expertise
or share our resolution of painpoints to other people.

(01:28):
Through online courses, subscriptions, classes you name
it.
You can create something tohelp someone else while also
making more money for yourselfand helping you reach your goals
financially.
It's such a neat conceptbecause by creating a course,
you own it and it's somethingthat you are pouring your heart

(01:52):
and soul into and you aresharing it, and you can change
others lives with the programthat you designed to change your
own life.
It's a powerful, beautifulthing, and I actually just
finished up my own smart, wealthy stylist course.
It's called the untangled path, and this one is specifically

(02:14):
finances.
On the untangled path I haveseven stepping stones and one of
the biggest one is finances, and this is what I've been
really really, really focusinghard on recently, because we're
trying to get out of debt andyou know I want to maximize my
time behind the chair.
So by doing that, I was able tofigure out plans and systems

(02:37):
that I put in place to maximizemy time behind the chair.
I no longer worth nights andweekends.
I was able to raise my pricesand become a six figure stylist
and I am a solo, sweet owner.
I have a salon in where mygarage used to be.
My husband turned our two cargarage into a salon for me, so I

(02:59):
have all the overhead of asalon, but it's just me.
So if I can do it, anyone cando it.
You know I've I've paid off$45,000 in debt since October
and you know we're still on thatpath, and it's just crazy to me
to think that there are so manyhairstylists that don't know

(03:22):
their numbers.
You know they're just out therefloating around and just hoping
that they make it.
There's no retirement, noinvesting, no, nothing going on.
So I want to encourage you guysthat if I can do it, so can you
and anyway.
So I've been working tirelesslyon this course, just making
sure it's perfect.

(03:42):
I did a pilot program with somestylists so I could finalize
some things, answer somequestions, fine tune and tweak
some things, and I'm just reallyexcited because it's a full
aspect of all different thingsthat I have collaborated
together that will all impactyour finances positively.
Those topics are how to reflectand set goals, how to untangle

(04:08):
your finances, how to establisha budget, how to implement
systems, how to set your pricesperfectly, how to niche down and
only see your dream clients andhow to use social media as a
tool.
So each of those topics has awhole lesson on it and then at
the end of it, you know you'remanaging your time better,

(04:29):
you're making more money.
You're using social media as atool.
You are taking a paycheck, yourdebt is paying off faster than
ever.
It is such a powerful thing totruly know your numbers and just
get it all laid out there, andI have two different options.
I have one, which is where youcan actually have the workbook

(04:49):
and the budgeting tracker sentdirectly to you during this
presale time.
The course actually startsSeptember 1st, but during the
presale time, whenever you dothat, I will mail you the
workbook and the budget trackerdirectly to you.
Or you can go ahead and do thedigital download and it's $50
cheaper.

(05:10):
So it's $350 if you want theactual workbook or $300 if you
want to just do the course andthen you get put into a support
Facebook group.
That way, everyone can kind ofbe a sounding board for each
other.
I can be involved in yourquestions and you just have a
lot of support within that group.
So once you buy the course, you're put in the group and you

(05:30):
can stay as long as you want.
You don't ever have to leave, just unless you want to.
So I love the support aspect ofit.
So when it came to doing acourse and creating the course,
I had absolutely no idea whereto start.
So the very first thing I wouldsay is do you solve a pain

(05:51):
point for someone?
So, whether it's colortechnique, helping stylists at
pricing, how to presentthemselves on social media,
whatever it is that you know howto do, that you have people
come to you all the time and say, hey, what do I do in this
situation?
Or hey, what do you recommend?
That is something that youcould do, a course on, something
that you could create an onlinecourse or a workbook or a class

(06:14):
.
However you want to do it, youcould solve that pain point for
them.
And that was another thing.
Like, if people ask youquestions regularly, they see
you as an expert or they see youas someone who they trust and
they know that you're going togive them the best information.
Another great thing is, once youkind of know what your pain

(06:38):
point is going to be, you canlike watch those hairstylists
supporting groups and alldifferent things and look what
the community's asking, see whatthey need and see if what
you're wanting to teach a courseon has some market value, like
if people are needing help withit, like a lot of people, you're
probably gonna have a reallygreat chance of success and you

(07:01):
can look up courses that peoplehave already launched that are
doing really well.
This is called market research, and by doing market research,
you're basically justsolidifying that what you have
is a sellable thing.
A lot of times, people have anidea and it's just not
marketable.
And that's not to say that youshouldn't do it.

(07:23):
Maybe there's a small group ofpeople that really need help
with what you're doing, and Ithink that that's valuable.
So now, are you gonna make $5million from it?
Maybe not, but are you going tomake some passive income from
it?
Yeah, probably so.
Every little bit helps, and Iknow a lot of my friends and

(07:45):
people who have asked me aboutcreating online courses and all
these things.
They're worried aboutoversaturation.
And especially once you startlooking into creating online
courses, all of a sudden yourInstagram is filled with all of
these course creators and allthese people who are creating
programs and all this stuff, andyou're like, okay, well,

(08:07):
everyone's already doing it, soI'm not gonna make any money.
There are 2.4 billion peopleusing Instagram alone.
There is plenty of education tobe spread around.
I would not worry aboutoversaturation.
I would just utilize thatpositive mindset.
Niche down on what you'retrying to teach and run with it,

(08:27):
create an outline and reallyjust dig in to that pain point
that you're solving for peopleand it'll be great.
And I was talking with one ofmy friends who's also creating
an online course and I wastelling her, with my specific,
what I'm doing with SmartWealthy Stylist.

(08:48):
A lot of hairstylists don'twanna know their numbers.
They don't care to know thatOnly 5% of the industry truly
knows their numbers and that isliterally shocking to me, but I
was one of the 95% just not toolong ago.
So I just want to encourage youthat, even if you think that

(09:11):
it's not gonna be profitable, gofor it anyways, because that's
what I'm doing.
I just thought this probablyisn't gonna be the most
profitable revenue for me totake, simply because I am
talking about something thatpeople don't wanna talk about.
It's a sore spot, it's a majorpain in their side.
It's something that's hard forpeople to talk about.

(09:33):
It's personal.
Nobody wants to be open and sayI have all this credit card
debt or I'm doing this, this orthis.
They don't wanna talk aboutthat.
They want to keep it all sweptunder the rug and just move out
their day.
So whether I make a lot ofmoney off this or not is
irrelevant.
If I make one or two livesbetter simply because I gave

(09:57):
this course to them, I gave themthe opportunity to truly
untangle and unpack all of theirfinancial burdens and put it
all out there, then it was allworth it.
So, when it comes to the actualcourse creation part, after
you've kind of, you know, figured out what your pain point
is and how you solved it, andthat you find out oh well,

(10:19):
there's a market for this.
There's some people that Icould help with this.
If you've never taken an onlinecourse or you are just
completely overwhelmed or noteven knowing where to start, I
would recommend taking an onlinecourse.
Become a part of a community,ask questions.
I have another course calledthe Untangled Path Business, and

(10:42):
it has a community with over3,000 people who are also
working on their businessescreating courses.
You know all the things.
There is so much greatinformation on there, but you
know, just learning how tooptimize your business and
learning how to use social mediaas a tool is vital for the
survival of your online course.
That course is $497 and it'sjust amazing to see how much I

(11:11):
have learned in such a shortamount of time.
I've taken lots of businesscourses and things.
This is the very best one thathas all of the information and
just a huge, amazing community.
So if you're not sure aboutcreating an online course you
don't really know what to do,what it looks like, how it feels
I highly recommend taking mycourse and then go from there.

(11:35):
You know, see, okay, this ishow the slides work.
This is how they did theirvideo.
You know all that stuff and itwill teach you how to utilize
every single tool available toyou on the internet social media
websites.
You know having a positivemindset like literally
everything is covered in this.
I'll read you all of themodules just so you guys get a

(11:56):
feel for what all is covered inthis course Introduction to
digital entrepreneurialism, howto set up automations, sales
process optimization, emailmarketing, branding, content
strategy, seo, training, successmindset, platforms to market on
business tools, passionbuilding and master resale

(12:17):
rights.
So it's just a really amazingcourse that covers every single
aspect of business and growingyour business, and so then, once
your course is created, youhave every single tool to make
it successful.
I'm a firm believer in doing thework first.
You know putting out, learn allthe learning that I need to do

(12:40):
in the forefront before I justjump in and sell.
I know some people are like I'mjust going to create it, throw
it out there and see whathappens.
If that's you, you do you boo.
But I like to learn and figureeverything out first.
That way it's easier for me tohandle it as I go.
And then, after you've takenthat course and like, truly know

(13:02):
what to expect, you'll have aclear vision on how an online
course works and then how youcan create your own for your own
special niche.
So when creating an onlinecourse, the very first thing
that you're going to do is tochoose the topic of your course.
So, like I said, this isrevisiting that pain point.
And then you're going to docustomer research.

(13:25):
So that's where you're doing.
You know, testing the market, seeing if there's a need for it,
what ages are they, where dothey live.
You know, really finding outwho these people are that you're
going to be selling this courseto, and then select the format
of your course.
Are you going to do an onlinecourse?
Are you going to create aworkbook?

(13:46):
Are you going to do in-personclasses?
You know how are how are yougoing to sell your course?
And then you can test if yourcourse is going to have a high
market demand.
You can, you know, askcustomers, you can post in
Facebook groups and you know allthese.

(14:06):
There's so many differentplaces.
There's reddit threads, youknow.
Dig deep and really look intothese community groups because
then you can really grasp at Isthis going to do well, or is it
totally crickets?
Is there no one who'sinterested in this?
And then after that you canpre-sell your course.
So if you have a launch date, you can pre-sell your course and

(14:30):
then use the money that you aregetting during your pre-sale to
continue to build your course, and it gives you a little bit of
a push to get your coursefinished.
Not everyone does this.
I think it's a great tool.
I'm not doing this.
I'm actually just pre-sailingmy course, simply because then I

(14:50):
know how many books to order tosend out for if people want the
actual physical copy of thebooks.
And then the next step is tooutline your course.
This is where you're going toset up your modules.
So, like I said earlier for myUntangled Path Finance course
and the Untangled Path Businesscourse, they're each broken out

(15:12):
into modules.
Within those modules you'regoing to have those questions
specifically around that topic.
So you're just going to outlineit out like what all you're
wanting your modules to say.
You know, break it down step bystep.
If you're teaching a technique, you're going to break it down
step by step and then teachwithin each step that you have.

(15:34):
After you're done with that, you're going to set your course
pricing and set sales goals.
When you do that, you canfigure out you know how many
people you're going to need inyour chair or not in your chair.
In your, how many people you'regoing to need to sell your
course to to reach your moneygoals.
So say, you're going to need$50,000, you know you could sell

(15:56):
your course at $25, but you'regoing to need a whole lot more
people to reach your sales goalsthan if you had your price set
at $500.
You also have to factor in yourvalue and stuff.
But by setting your prices youcan say okay, well, if I set it
at this, I'm going to need25,000 people to find my website

(16:19):
and I'm going to need 50% ofthose to convert into sales,
which is insane.
That's probably never going tohappen, but if you need, if
you're selling it at $500, youcould say, okay, well, even if
10,000 people got in front of itand only 1% converted, I would
still meet my sales goals.
You know, like however you wantto see, that that's how you're

(16:39):
going to set your prices, whatyour sales goals are, and then
that will tell you how manypeople that need to see your
product and then how many peopleneed to be converted into sales
.
And then you choose the rightcourse platform.
There's so many differentonline course platforms.
I use Wix websites and theyactually have a course creator

(17:03):
on there.
You can use their platform andit's included in my website fee.
There is also Kajabi.
There's ThinkEthic, there'sTeachable.
I mean there's so manydifferent ones and you could
just kind of play with those andsee which ones in your price
point and all those things.
You can create stuff on Canvaand then just sell those

(17:24):
downloads.
There's so many ways to go aboutit.
There's not a right in a wrongway, but by educating yourself
and figuring out exactly what itis that you're wanting to do
can then lead you into where youwant to go, and then you will
launch and advertise your course.
After launching and advertising, it will get in front of the

(17:44):
right people, people willpurchase your course.
And then the last step is tocollect feedback and
testimonials.
Whenever people give you theirfeedback, you know if you need
to tweak the course or not withtestimonials.
That's great advertisement.
You can put your testimonialson your course website so people
can say, wow, you know, thisperson's life was changed in

(18:06):
this way.
That's what I'm dealing with,or whatever it is that these
people are telling you how it'schanging their lives, how it's
bettering them.
People trust reviews.
They want to see how it'sbettering other people's lives.
Can they trust you?
You know they want to see theproof.
They want to know that theirhard earned money is going into

(18:29):
a meaningful thing.
And then one step further, youknow, after you created your
course and all those things, youcan actually do what's called
master resale rights.
So the business course, theuntangled path business course
that's what this is.
I have a master resale rightsto this business course.
The roadmap company actuallycreated this course and then,

(18:52):
whenever I purchased the course,I have master resale rights.
So I've already sold it onceand I already made back my
investment because you sell itfor $497.
And it's just such a coolopportunity because and it was
so eye-wining to me because nowI could create online courses
for hairstylists that are kindof generic and then they can

(19:13):
take that course, change it tospecifically meet their needs,
and then they would get themaster resale rights when they
purchase that course from me andthey can sell it to whoever
they want.
No, I don't get a cut off of it.
This is not MLM, this is notaffiliate marketing, this is not
commissions.
You are literally just buyingthe rights to sell that digital

(19:33):
product.
So what a cool opportunity.
So I mean, if you're a techsavvy person, you could always
create online courses for otherhairstylists to sell and give
them the master resale right tothat, and I would love to create
that for people too.
I think that that would just bea really neat opportunity.
So definitely don't sleep onthose kind of things, because

(19:57):
it's great passive income.
That's not hard to do.
I just love the tech age thatwe're living in.
I am not a tech savvy personand I know I've said this a
hundred times, but I'm just nota tech savvy person.
But it's not that hard to do ifyou google it or youtube it or

(20:17):
watch a, you know, some sort ofinstructional video and most of
these things, these educationplatforms that you would post
your course to have so much freeeducation on them that will
teach you how to do anything, even like on canva.
You know, facebook, instagram.
There are helps, tips, tools, like in your menus, in your back

(20:40):
office.
There is so much free help thatyou can get just by looking
around.
And if you don't feel likethat's enough, find a mentor, or
ask someone who creates coursesregularly or, you know, hire a
virtual assistant, like theoptions are endless.
So don't get discouraged.

(21:01):
If you think I'm not tech savvy, I can't do these kinds of
things, I truly believe that youcan, because I am not either
and I'm doing the dang thing.
So, anyways, I hope this washelpful and just go along and,
you know, figure out what you'rewanting to do.
Let me know.
If you create a course, I wouldlove to check it out, or if you

(21:24):
have any questions, I would loveto answer them.
I hope that you get creativeand that you can add value to
the community and help someoneelse solve their pain point.
And, you know, be thinking.
Maybe something that you'redoing or some problem that
you've solved is something thatliterally hundreds, if not
thousands of other people aredealing with.

(21:45):
You could be sitting on a goldmine.
So be encouraged today, and Ihope that you're on the lookout
for something that could helpyou make passive income and help
others have a better life.
So I'll talk to you soon.
I'll see you next week.
Thank you for listening intoday.
If you have a burning questionor a topic you want me to cover,

(22:07):
leave a review and ask thequestion in the review.
This is the best way to getyour questions answered.
Just remember you are a smart, wealthy stylist and you are
capable of anything you set yourmind to.
I'll catch you later.
