Ally Domercant (00:00):
Welcome to the Snapshot Testimony podcast. I'm your host, Ally Domercant .
In this podcast, I ask my guests to share one
pivotal moment that helped shape their faith in Christ. Today,
you'll hear from the one and only Cece Winans. She's
the best selling female gospel artist of all time. And
as you'll hear, a favorite in my own family in
this episode, she brings us into a faith defining moment
(00:22):
in a hospital waiting room where a doctor came out
and told her family they should come and say goodbye
to her brother. His heart was failing. Instead, they asked
the doctor, can we pray for you and ask you
to go in and check him one more time? What
followed was an absolute miracle and I think you'll be encouraged.
I also know that for many, this kind of story
(00:42):
can be a point of pain. If you felt like
God didn't give you the miracle you prayed for, I
asked CeCe about that and no surprise she's been in
that position too. Here's a snapshot testimony from Cece Winans.
Thank you so much for being on the Snapshot Testimony podcast.
(01:06):
I'm sure you have many moments that you can go
to over the course of many, many years walking with
the Lord, but is there one you can tell us
about today that stands out that you've really seen the
hand of the Lord?
CeCe Winans (01:18):
Oh, definitely. I was just talking about it today and um,
earlier interview, talking about the resurrection of my brother who
we lost in the operating room. Um, he had a heart,
heart issues, and the doctor came out to the waiting
room to tell us that he was going to. Wake
(01:40):
him up so that he can say goodbye to all
of us. Um. His heart had exploded on the operating table,
and my father asked the doctor if we could lay
hands on him and pray, and would would he be
willing to go back in and literally give it another try,
you know? And so so the doctor didn't realize what
was going on, but my father laid a hand on
(02:04):
the doctor, and we all begin to pray in the spirit,
praying in tongues and just praying over the doctor and
anointing him and just asking God for mercy. And the
doctor went back in, and the next words we heard
was that Ronald was on his way to recovery. And, uh,
it was a it was a miracle. And later on,
(02:25):
that doctor gave his heart to Jesus. The nurses that worked. Yeah.
It was it was just it was life changing for me.
Ally Domercant (02:33):
Wow. How many years ago was this?
CeCe Winans (02:36):
Oh, so many years ago. Um. Trying to see how
many years. Because Ronald lived another eight years and, uh. Yeah,
it was it was just amazing. So it's probably been
over 20 years now. Wow.
Ally Domercant (02:55):
Now, when you when you walked back in there, did you,
did you have that surge of faith that said, God,
I really believe I'm going to see a miracle? Was
it a did you have that kind of faith or
was it just like, God? Whatever, whatever you choose to do,
I'm going to be okay with oh no.
CeCe Winans (03:10):
No, no, no, we were fighting. We weren't going to
be okay. But we I mean, we would have been
okay because God is God. Sure. Um, because everything we
pray for don't always come on our way. But it
was a fight in us. We we realized that we
couldn't doubt at all. Um, we wouldn't even let people
in the room if they weren't in faith. Wow. Yeah,
because his life was really dependent on our faith. We
(03:33):
had the people of God praying all over. And when
my father asked him to do that, we prayed. And
we said he will he will come out. Okay. And, um,
and I learned that God, he does respond to our faith.
He responds to our faith. And and because Ronald, the
(03:53):
whole situation was just a miracle when he took himself
to the hospital, he didn't even realize, but his heart
had exploded. Um, he was torn. I don't have all the.
His aorta was torn, and the doctor was like, we
don't even know how you walked in here, you know? Um,
and he he just was complaining of, like, shortness of breath, uh,
but got in there and realized how bad it was.
(04:16):
And the doctors were like, no way is he going
to make it, you guys, are he. Y'all just need
to say goodbye. And that was it. And Ronald, at
that time, I think Ronald was in his 40s at
that time. Um, and so we witnessed a true miracle. Yeah.
And it shapes you in a way that I don't know,
(04:40):
nothing else does.
When you've experienced that and I say that because eight
years later, Ron went on to be with the Lord.
Because when the doctors told him that they wanted to
go in and do some more work. Um, and, and again,
God blessed them to live. And he lived his life.
(05:00):
And then Ronald got to the point where it was
time for him to go in and do the work.
But he told my mom and dad, he was like,
you know what? I really don't want to do that.
And if it's God's will for me to go home,
I'm ready, you know? Um, but we came back and
Ronald went into the hospital and his temperature had dropped.
And we stood on that same faith we stood on.
(05:21):
I just knew Ron was going to still be with us,
you know? And it didn't happen the way we wanted
to happen. God decided to take him home, but it
didn't shake my faith because I already know that God
is more than able, you know what I'm saying? And
that's we. We all were never exempt as believers, were
not exempt from trials and tribulations or hurt and pain.
(05:42):
But we go through them differently because we serve a
God who's more than able to do the impossible. And
that's never shaken, right? You know, it's shaped my life
where I understand that even when things don't turn out
the way I wanted to turn out, it's my obligation
as a believer to believe.
Ally Domercant (06:03):
How do you stay in that posture? Because it's interesting
how with the same brother, with the same relationship, you
saw the miraculous healing, the intervention in a supernatural way,
and then eight years later, praying with the same faith
and and having God say, no, it's time, time for
him to come home to me. How do you stay
in that posture of faith, believing God for a miracle
(06:27):
every single time you pray. Praying not just expected prayers,
but praying in faith that this is the same God
now as he was then.
CeCe Winans (06:36):
Mhm. Well, I stand there because the Bible commands us.
He tells us that when you pray and not doubt,
you will have what you say. And we know as
believers the ultimate is, is to please God, the ultimate
is to trust him. You know what I'm saying? So
I can pray with that same fervency because I trust
(06:56):
him with the outcome, whatever it is. But we he's
shown us in Scripture that we play a very crucial
part in the outcome. And a lot of times we
don't go for it because of fear or we feel
like it might not happen. No no no no no.
What do you have to lose? You have nothing to lose.
So I, I whenever somebody's life is dependent on something,
(07:18):
I want to be a person of faith, that they
can depend, that I'm going to believe even if the
outcome comes out different. Because, you know, we win either way,
as believers, we win either way. But as a believer,
it is my job to believe it is my heart
to trust them completely so that God can do the
impossible through us, because he chooses to do the impossible
(07:41):
through us, you know? So I want to make sure
that there's nothing in me that's hindering him from doing
what he wants to do.
Ally Domercant (07:48):
Sure.
How does that posture affect how you when you lead
in worship, whether it's in front of a live group
of people and you're looking at them face to face,
or you're in a studio and you see no one
but you know that the Lord has used your music mightily.
How does that sense of faith spill over into your music?
CeCe Winans (08:07):
It's spillovers to everything, you know. It's spillovers to me
being a grandmother.
Ally Domercant (08:13):
Oh, yeah.
CeCe Winans (08:14):
You, you you walk in the authority of Jesus. You
realize that it has nothing to do with you. You're
just a vessel, you know? But God is always on
the move. He's he always wants to heal. He always
wants to deliver. He always wants to set people free.
And so I have to understand that as his as
his ambassador. You gotta. You gotta live. Ready? You gotta
(08:39):
live it in expectancy. You have to live with the
joy of the Lord. And it's a pleasure. It's a privilege.
It's an honor. Um. I'm not my own, you know.
I'm not my own when I'm in public. And I'm
not my own in private. I belong to him. And.
And that's my posture. My posture is a posture of faith.
My posture is a posture of victory because that's who
(09:01):
I serve. You know, he never has a bad day.
Ally Domercant (09:05):
You can.
CeCe Winans (09:06):
Go out my, you know, even.
If it doesn't turn out the way I want it,
he's still in control. And and and he knows. He
knows what's best for us, you know. And so you
have to come to that resolve when you come to
the that resolve that he is who he says he is,
then you can live from a place of rest. Even
(09:26):
when you're going through trials and tribulations. You live from
a place of rest because of who he is.
Ally Domercant (09:33):
Yeah.
Now you've got some exciting things coming up. You've got
a tour you got in. How do you keep going
with all you mentioned? You're a grandma, you've got grown children,
you've got a lot happening in your life. How do
you keep fresh doing all that you're doing?
CeCe Winans (09:52):
I believe he is who he says he is. I
was thinking about this other day and part of me
wanted to get tired. I'm like, oh, wait a minute,
you actually told them you would do this too?
Ally Domercant (10:05):
Now you got to do it.
CeCe Winans (10:07):
And then I said, you know what, Lord? All I
have to do is show up. Because it's you that
do it. You know what I'm saying? We we get
we get tired, we get nervous. We get scared when
we think it depends on us.
Ally Domercant (10:24):
Right?
CeCe Winans (10:26):
But soon as we come to and sometimes you have
to slap, I have to slap myself out of it.
It's like you have nothing to do with this. He's
going to deliver. You just show up. He's going to
give you strength because you're doing it for him. You
know what I'm saying? He's going to take care of
your kids and everything else that's happened. Your grandbaby, this
is you just show up, and that's all we have
(10:47):
to do is show up prepared, show up filled with
the word of God, show up with praises on my mouth,
and God is going to do the rest. Yeah. So
that's how I keep going. Because I live. I live
in his face, you know, I stay in the world.
Ally Domercant (11:02):
I love that expression.
CeCe Winans (11:03):
Yeah, I.
Live in his face because you're always reminded that you're
not alone. You're always reminded that if he's for you, really,
who could be against you?
But we have to live in his face. We have
to live in his presence in order to stay motivated.
Ally Domercant (11:20):
Yeah, yeah. Well, thank.
You so much for, for just for so many years
of faithful ministry and for music that blesses me. And
I told my mom this morning that I was going
to be talking to you. I grew up listening to you. Yeah.
And so my mom was so excited.
CeCe Winans (11:39):
I love it, I tell them, you know, that's when
I knew I was getting older. You know, you start
out I started out as a teenager, I was 17.
I've been in the industry for over 40 years.
It starts with, um, would you, you know, sign my autograph.
It's like, okay, I'm signing an autograph. Then it's like,
Will you sign it for my mom? It's like, okay,
now I was excited for my grandma. I'm like.
Yeah.
Ally Domercant (12:01):
But you don't look like you've aged at all. Which
is just, I guess that's good. Clean living in his face.
That's the fountain of youth, right?
CeCe Winans (12:11):
That's it, that's it. Tell her.
I said hello and thank you for sure.
