(00:27):
it's Tom. I'm so glad you're here for story time,
whether it's for a nap, for bedtime, or just to relax.
I think story time is one of the very best
parts of any day, and hopefully you agree. Our friend
Elizabeth is about to read us a nice cozy story.
(00:52):
It takes place in a big, beautiful pond, and it's
about a kind little frog who go on an adventure
to find the golden lotus at the center of the
pond in the hope that it will grant her a wish.
I hope you're looking forward to it as much as
(01:13):
I am. And remember it's a chance to get some rest.
So snuggling comfortably wherever you are. And I'd like you
to imagine a warm, sleepy feeling that starts at the
(01:34):
tips of your toes. Imagine it traveling all the way
up your body, helping everything it touches to relax, first
your legs, then your hips, and your tummy, your arms, shoulders, neck,
(02:05):
and when that warm, sleepy feeling reaches the top of
your head, you're ready for a lovely long rest. So
now let's follow our imaginations to the edge of a
big pond. Water laps at the sides as frogs ribbit
(02:31):
and chirp from hidden corners. This is where our story begins.
Speaker 2 (02:54):
In a beautiful place where the weather was warm. There
was a huge pond with deep green water that reflected
the open sky. All around the edge of the pond
(03:15):
were mountains and trees, and the whole pond was dotted
with beautiful lotus flowers. Lotus flowers are like water lilies,
except they are bigger and brighter. They rise above the
(03:41):
water on elegant stems, and their petals are tinged with pink.
In the center of a lotus flower is a head
like a little cup with a flat lid, where the
lotus flower stores its seeds. At the edge of the
(04:08):
pond there lived many, many frogs, including one little frog
called Katak. Katak was the smallest female frog in her hometown,
(04:28):
but she was also the kindest, and the thing she
wanted the most was to have tadpoles to look after
and sing to sleep every night. But every tadpole season
(04:49):
came and went, and Katak had no tadpoles. So every
night she would make a wish the tadpoles. She'd settle
down in the warm, shallow waters and blow her wish
into a bubble. Then she'd let it float down into
(05:15):
the deep pond. One night, when Katak was sleeping, she
felt the water rippling softly around her, but she didn't
wake up. Instead, she slipped into a wonderful dream. In
(05:41):
the dream, she was swimming confidently into the deep part
of the lake. Her frog legs glided through the cool water,
and her breathing was deep and strong. Then she came
(06:03):
across a golden lotus. It rose out of the pond,
taller than any other lotus. Katak looked at it with
wide eyes and felt a magical tingle in her toes.
(06:26):
The lotus sang to her in her voice softer than
a feather, and told her that if she came to
eat the golden lotus seeds, she would be given a
great gift. Katak woke from her dream full of excitement.
(06:51):
It was still dark, but out in the distance, in
the middle of the great pond, she could see if
aimed glow of gold. Katak's heart filled with joy. The
golden lotus was real and would help her have the
(07:15):
tadpoles she wanted. She could barely contain her excitement. She
had to set off and find it. The next morning,
Kattak packed a small bag full of her favorite flies
(07:37):
in case she got hungry. Then she told her neighbor
that she was going away and swam to the edge
of her hometown. The Great Pond stretched ahead. She knew
the water would be deep, so she took a deep
(07:59):
breath and headed out into the pond. She felt the
water change from warm to cool, felt soft and silky
against her skin. She took soothing breaths in and out,
(08:26):
and before she knew it, she was swimming in the
Great Pond, as if it had always been her home.
Katak had been swimming for some time when she came
across her first lotus. It had leaves that were spread out, green, flat,
(08:52):
and glossy on the pond's surface. She felt a wave
of gratitude. Her legs were beginning to get tired and
she needed a place to rest, so Kadak swam to
the leaves and pulled herself up onto it. When she
(09:17):
was settled, she looked around her and gasped. In front
of her, as far as she could see were hundreds
and hundreds of lotus plants in all shapes and sizes.
(09:39):
Here and there pink flowers rose between the leaves. Kadak
thought it was the most beautiful sight she had ever seen,
so she let it fill her with happiness. Them Katak
(10:00):
noticed something incredible. On the leaf next to her was
an electric blue dragonfly. She was lying in the shade
of a lotus flower. Her transparent wings were like lace,
(10:24):
but there was something wrong. Her wings seemed weighed down
by something. Katak was wondering what had happened. When the
dragonfly spoke. She told Katak that her wings had gotten
(10:46):
wet and she couldn't dry them in the shade. She
needed help. Would Katak push her leaf into the sun
so her wings could dry. Katak felt so sorry for
the beautiful dragonfly that she agreed immediately, even though her
(11:13):
legs were tired. She slid back into the water and
swam to the leaf. She pushed her little frog legs
against the leaf and kicked her back legs out. Slowly
but surely, the leaf moved and the dragonfly hummed as
(11:37):
she came out of the shade. Then her wings hit
the sunlight, and a thousand shades of purple, green, and
blue glittered on them. Kataks smiled at their beauty. The
(11:59):
dragon fly shivered her wings, and Katak forgot how tired
she felt. She had to keep going. She asked the
dragonfly if she knew the way to the golden lotus.
(12:19):
The dragonfly told Katak that the golden lotus were straight
ahead and thanked her for all her help. Full of inspiration,
Katak swam eagerly in the right direction. She felt so
happy helping the dragonfly that she barely noticed how many
(12:44):
lotus flowers she had passed. She came across a tiny
little water beetle floating on the surface. He seemed very weak.
Katak swam over to him. He told her that he
(13:04):
was hungry and hadn't been able to catch any flies. Well,
Katak's heart melted. She immediately took out her bag of
flies and gave them to the beetle. The little beetle
(13:25):
ate eagerly, but he looked at her with worried eyes
when he finished. Wouldn't she be hungry? Later, but Katak
shook her head. She could always catch more flies, so
the little beetle thanked her and told her that she
(13:49):
was still heading in the right direction for the golden lotus.
Katak kept swimming. The day was starting to fade. As
Kassak swam, the pale orange of the sunset danced and
(14:10):
rippled on the water's surface. It filled her with joy,
but at the same time, she began to wonder where
she would sleep tonight. She was thinking about stopping on
a very large leaf when she noticed a fish beneath her.
(14:38):
Was a beautiful fish. She had pearly white scales that
were dotted with splotches of golden orange. Her fins flowed
like floating silk, but she was strung. Her tail was
(15:04):
caught in a tangle of weeds. As soon as Katak
saw this beautiful fish, she knew she had to help,
so she dived beneath the water and swam quickly to
the fish. She pulled the weeds apart using her legs,
(15:29):
and the fish wriggled free. The fish swam and shimmied
in a graceful circle. Delighted to be free, she thanked
Katak with her soft watery voice. The fish asked if
(15:52):
there was anything she could do to help Katak. So
Katak explained about the golden lotus. The fish nodded, then
she offered Katak her tail. Katak held onto her beautiful tail,
(16:14):
and the fish swam into the darkening pond. Kadak felt
the water flow all around her body. What a wonderful
feeling to move so quickly. Her little heart was filled
(16:37):
with gratitude for the fish. Then she noticed a faint
golden glow up ahead. It was a long, thick, golden
lotus root. As they came closer, Katak realized that soft
(17:02):
music seemed to be coming from it. Finally the fish stopped.
Katak thanked the fish and swam to the surface. There
in front of her was the golden lotus. It rose
(17:29):
magnificently into the air and seemed even more fantastic than
in Katak's dream. She was full of excitement. She hopped
onto the nearest leaf and spoke to the lotus. Then
(17:52):
the lotus spoke back. Her voice was soft and glittery,
and she told old Katak, but she was so happy
to see her. Not many beings answered her dream and
came to find her so as a reward, she had
(18:15):
prepared an excellent gift. Katak hopped with excitement. She was
going to get her tadpoles, but the lotus shook her
beautiful head. She could not give Katak tadpoles. Katak stopped
(18:42):
hopping and looked very confused. The lotus continued, tadpoles always
grow into frogs, and all frogs must leave homes sooner
or later. Katak nodded that was true. However, the lotus
(19:12):
had seen how kind and caring Katak was and had
a better plan for her. Katak blushed and explained that
she just felt happy when she could help others. The
lotus twinkled that was why she wanted to give Katak
(19:38):
a power to help anyone she wanted. The Golden Lotus
released a golden seed. It drifted towards Katak. Then the
lotus explained she was a dream lotus. Her job was
(20:02):
to look after all dreams of the world, but she
needed help. If Katak ate the seed, she would have
the power to hop into any dreams that had turned
bad and make them good again. The lotus explained that
(20:27):
she had been looking for a creature full of kindness
and bravery, and she knew that Katak was the one.
The seed came to a stop right in front of Katak.
(20:50):
Attack took a deep breath in and knew the lotus
was right. Then a tingle of excitement began to bubble
inside her as she imagined all the ways she could
help bad dreams to be good. The seed glowed brighter,
(21:17):
and Katak made her decision. She put out her frog
tongue and ate the seed. Then she felt her whole
body glowing warmly. Her skin was turning golden and glistening,
(21:43):
and she felt happier than she had ever felt. Night
had fallen on the pond. Katak looked at the lotus,
who smiled their work was about to begin. Katak gazed
(22:10):
at the pond and saw all the lotus flowers opening.
Inside the heart of each one was a tiny golden dream,
ready to be looked after or helped if ever it
(22:32):
went bad. So Katak began her work that night. In
the morning, when the dreams had been dreamed, she hopped
into the golden lotus and nestled herself in its soft petals.
(23:01):
In this beautiful cocoon, she found that her body relaxed
and her eyes became heavy, her breathing slowed, and before
she knew it, she fell into a deep, RESTful sleep.
(23:33):
So before you drift off to sleep, be sure to
ask a little Katak for a good dream. And if
you ever have a good dream, remember to thank her
for all her kind works. U. L.
