Welcome to Snuggle Cozy Stories for kids. This episode is

(00:27):
thanks so much for listening. I'm Tom, and I'm so
happy you've joined us here for story time. Our friend
Chloe will be reading to us on this occasion, and
I think I might take a nice little nap while
I listen along. Maybe I'll even stay asleep for hours

(00:48):
on end. However you plan on listening, I think you'll
love our story. It's about a toy ballerina who has
one very special wish, and we'll witness everything that happens
when her wish comes true. We'll witness it in our imaginations,

(01:12):
of course. So let's get them warmed up with a
nice stretch of our arms and legs, and then a
big breath in through the nose and back out through

(01:33):
the mouth. Perfect. I'll make way for Chloe now as
we begin our story in the town of Sleepyville, where
everyone is tucked in bed ready for sleep.

Speaker 2 (02:07):
In the city of Sleepyville, there was a long, snoozy
street on the long snoozy street, there was a hush house.
In the hushed house, there was a peaceful bedroom. And

(02:33):
in the peaceful bedroom, a little girl called Sara Fina
was sleeping in her bed. Before this story keeps going,
there are three important things I need to tell you.

(02:56):
The first thing is that sleepy Ville is a little
bit different from where you or I live. In Sleepyville,
after the sun sets, every house is visited by a

(03:16):
fairy who carries with them a bag of magical dream dust.
These fairies sprinkle the dream dust over everyone who is
sleeping in the house to give them wonderful dreams. The

(03:41):
second thing you need to know is that on the
night when our story takes place, the fairy in charge
of sprinkling magical dream dust in Saraphina's bedroom was a
fairy called Alouette. Alouette was like all fairies, kind and

(04:12):
friendly and hard working and brave, but she was also
a bit different from other fairies. She had terrible allergies.
Whenever she was near a cat, Alouette sneezed and sneezed

(04:40):
and sneezed. The third thing you need to know is
that Serafina had a big, fluffy white cat called Rufus,
who liked to sleep snuggled at the bottom of Seraphina's bed.

(05:01):
Now that you know these three things, let's get back
to the story. Where were we? Ah, that's right, a
girl called Sarafina was sleeping in her bed, and a

(05:24):
big fluffy white cat called Rufus was sleeping too, curled
up in a quilt by Saraphina's feet. The clock chimed,
the bedroom window opened. The fairy Alouette flew inside, clutching

(05:52):
her bag of magical dream dust. Sarafinus was the very
first house Alouette was visiting that night, so the bag
of magical dream dust was filled to the brim. She

(06:12):
flew inside, dipped her hand into the bag of dream dust.
Then her nose crinkled, her throat itched, her eyes started
to water. Was there a cat in this room? Alouette

(06:37):
sneezed three times in a row. She sneezed the dream
dust in her bag all over the room. Some of
the dust settled on the bookshelves, Some of the dust

(06:58):
drifted onto the wardrobe, quite a lot of the dust
landed on the carpet, and the last of the dust
fell onto Serafina's music box, which stood open on top
of the toy chest. Oh dear, said Alouette, that was

(07:26):
rather a lot more dust than necessary. I suppose Serafina
will have extra sweet dreams tonight. She was right by
the way. Serafina dreamed she owned an under the sea

(07:47):
ice cream shop where she sold delicious ice creams in
clamshell cones to all kinds of wonderful sea creatures. Then
Alouette fluttered out the window and onto the next house.

(08:12):
All was quiet in Seraphina's bedroom until the ballerina who
lived in the music box. Her name, by the way,
was Camille, said, Oh dear, I'm absolutely covered in dream dust.

(08:35):
Oh yes, perhaps I should have told you this fourth
very important thing in Sleepyville. Toys can talk. At least
they can talk as soon as the children who own
them have gone to sleep. And because Sara Fina was

(09:01):
sleeping so soundly, all the toys who lived in her
bedroom could now talk as much as they liked. Camille
looked down at the sparkly dust that covered her shoulders
and arms and her fluffy pink tutu. She knew that

(09:27):
this magical dust gave people very sweet dreams, but she
wasn't a person. She was a toy, and toys don't sleep,
which means they don't have dreams. Would the dust have

(09:54):
any effect on her, she wondered. None of the other
toys in Sarafina's bedroom could answer Camille's question, not the
teddy bear, or the wind up bird, or the floppy
bunny or the wooden fox. At last, they all decided

(10:23):
to ask the porcelain doll, who lived on the top
shelf of the bookcase, what she thought. The porcelain doll
was the oldest toy in the bedroom. She had belonged
to Sarafina's mother, and before that to Serafina's mother's mother,

(10:48):
which is why all the other toys thought she might
be able to answer Camille's question about the dream dust.
But the porcelain doll generally kept herself to herself and

(11:08):
only very rarely came out of the clear box she
lived in. The wooden fox climbed to the top of
the bookcase and knocked on the front of the doll's box. Slowly,

(11:30):
the porceland doll opened her box and looked down at
the rest of the toys gathered around. The toy box.
Camille asked her question once again to the porcelain doll.

(11:50):
The porcelain doll closed her eyes and thought at last.
She opened her eyes again once she told the other toys,
very long ago, when she was only a young doll,

(12:13):
a fairy had accidentally sprinkled magic dream dust on the
toys in Seraphina's mother's bedroom. Camille and all the other
toys were eager to know what happened. Did that toy
have a dream? No, the porcelain dolls shook her head.

(12:41):
Toys don't sleep, which means they don't have dreams, at
least not in the way that people do. But toys
do have wishes, and when magic dreamed us falls on

(13:03):
top of a toy, it brings their wishes to life
for just as long as a dream. Camille's eyes went
bright with excitement. For as long as she could remember,

(13:23):
Camille had only ever had one dream. She dreamed of
being able to dance like a real ballerina. Until now,
she had never been able to. She was glued very

(13:48):
tightly to the bottom of the music box, and she
could only ever spin round and round in a circle.
Her arms were stuck in one position up over her head.

(14:10):
Her legs were stuck in one position too, with her
left leg very stiff and straight, and her right leg
kicking outwards with one perfectly pointed toe. She loved to
spin in a circle whenever Seraphina turned the key in

(14:35):
the music box, but she wished she could know what
it felt like to really dance. Would her wish come true?
She felt a strange tingling started at the top of

(15:02):
her head, then crept down her spine. It spread out
along her arms and all the way to the tips
of her fingers. It traveled through her belly and down

(15:26):
her legs and all the way to the bottom of
her feet. As soon as the tingling stopped, Camille found
she was no longer stuck to the base of the
music box. She pointed one toe and then another. She

(15:56):
waved her arms, she flapped her hand, and she twisted
her head from side to side. It was so wonderful
to move anyway she wanted. The other toys in the

(16:17):
bedroom were overjoyed. The teddy Bear helped Camille down from
the music box on top of the toy chest. The
rest of them gathered around. Even the porcelain doll clambered

(16:38):
slowly down from her place on the top of the
bookshelf to join in the excitement. Camille felt a little
bit shaky at first. She wasn't used to moving around.
She had to take some deep breaths, yes, in and out,

(17:05):
in and out before she felt steady. But once she
did feel steady, there was no stopping her. She leapt
high into the air. She skipped across the rug. She

(17:28):
played a game of marbles. She tossed a red rubber
ball back and forth with the wooden fox. Then the
teddy Bear had a wonderful idea. He opened the toy

(17:51):
chest and brought out all of Saraphina's instruments. There was
a toy piano, a xylophone, a tambourine, and a little drum.

(18:13):
The toys gathered round. The wind up bird pecked its
beak on the keys of the toy piano. The floppy
bunny played the xylophone, The wooden fox shook the tambourine
between its paws, and the teddy bear beat the drum.

(18:39):
Camille closed her eyes and listened to the cheerful jingle
jangle of the music. She paid attention to the way
her fingers twitched in time to the melody and the
way her toes wiggled to the beat. Then she flung

(19:03):
her arms wide, leapt into the middle of the toy
room rug and danced. She did pirouettes and arabesques. She
dwelled and swelled, She turned cartwheels and even did a somersault.

(19:31):
She danced so much that she kicked up some of
the magical dream dust that had settled on the carpet.
The dust flew onto the window sill, and then something
rather magical happened. The window flew open, A night breeze

(19:58):
blew in, and it carried with it what looked like
a piece of paper. The paper settled on the floor,
and the toys gathered around to examine it. It was

(20:18):
more than just a piece of paper. It was a ticket,
it said, Sleepyville City Ballet Admit One the porcelain dole

(20:38):
pulled out her reading glasses and examined the date.

Speaker 3 (20:46):
This ticket is for a ballet concert that is happening tonight,
she said, But how would Camille get to the ballet concert?

Speaker 2 (21:02):
It was happening all the way over in the Sleepyville
City Ballet concert Hall. Meanwhile, Camille had never even left
Sarafina's room. The breeze rippled through the room again, and

(21:24):
it lifted the paper ticket a few inches off the floor. Suddenly,
Camille knew just what she needed to do. She hopped
lightly on to the top of the ticket and sat

(21:45):
on it like it was a magic carpet. The breeze
lifted the ticket and Camille higher and higher into the air.
Camille and the ticket drifted together out of the window.

(22:08):
Camille waved goodbye to all the toys in the bedroom
and promised she would be back soon. Riding on top
of her ticket, Camille flew over the streets and rooftops
of Sleepyville. As she came close to the center of

(22:31):
the city, the buildings grew taller and grander. At last,
she was floating above the concert hall. Below. She saw
people dressed in fancy ball gowns and elegant tuxedos streaming

(22:55):
into the concert hall. She heard the lively chatter, and
from deeper inside the building, the strains of the orchestra
instruments being tuned. Camille's paper ticket floated above the heads

(23:17):
of the crowd through the lobby, where a chandelier sparkled
into the concert hall and up to the balcony to
a front row seat that had a perfect view of
the stage. Heavy red velvet curtains were drawn shut over

(23:44):
the stage. Camille wondered what was going on behind the curtains.
She imagined ballerinas and ballerinos stretching their arms and their legs,
lacing up their point shoes, applying their makeup, and climbing

(24:08):
into their ornate costumes. The lights dimmed, the concert hall
went dark, and the audience went silent. The red velvet
curtains drew open. A spotlight illuminated the stage. Camille's heart

(24:41):
fluttered as she watched the dancers. She had never experienced
anything so beautiful in her life. She loved it all.
She loved the way the dancers fluttered and leaped and

(25:04):
pirouetted across the stage. She loved their glittery tutos and leotards.
She loved the way the music from the orchestra could
sometimes be very sweet and soft and could sometimes be

(25:25):
loud and soaring. She loved the way the audience stood
in their seats and clapped at the end of the show,
and the way the dancers all came out to curtsy
and bow while people in the very front row threw

(25:46):
flowers up onto the stage. After everyone else in the
concert hall had stood up from their seats and left,
Camille states where she was. She didn't want her night

(26:06):
at the ballet to be over, and as the hall
grew very quiet around her, she had an idea. She
wondered if she would be brave enough to do what

(26:26):
she was planning. But there's something about a special wish
coming true that can make even the tiniest toy ballerina
feel braver than usual. So Camille plucked up her courage

(26:52):
and walked right up to the stage. She used one
of the velvet chords dangling from the curtains to climb
up onto the stage itself. She breathed in, deeply, catching

(27:14):
the scent of furniture polish that drifted up from the
stage floorboards. She pointed her toe, she stretched out her arm.
She started to dance, all alone in the empty theater.

(27:44):
But Camille wasn't quite so alone as she thought. The
orchestra conductor was still packing away his sheet music when
a movement on the stage caught his eye. He looked

(28:10):
at the little toy ballerina dancing so beautifully and smiled.
He beckoned the other musicians to come out from backstage.

(28:32):
One by one, they picked up their instruments and began
to play. The music filled Camille's ears and echoed out
through the empty concert hall. She could feel its vibrations

(28:58):
in the floorboard. Every time her feet landed on the stage,
it sounded exquisite. She found herself leaping higher and spinning
more wildly than she had ever dreamed possible. The noise

(29:28):
of the orchestra caught the attention of one of the
stage hands, and she walked back into the hall to
see what was going on. When she saw Camille dancing,
she ran to turn on the spotlight. Camille gasped. Now

(29:58):
the stage was bathed in dazzling golden light. The dancers
too heard the music and saw the lights coming from
inside the hall, and they crept back inside, filling the

(30:19):
front row seats. When Camille finally finished her dance, they
all applauded. The prima Ballerina plucked a single petal from
her bouquet of roses and presented it to Camille. Camille

(30:49):
took about her wish really had come true. Back in
Seraphina's room, Camille told all the other toys about her
magical night. She knew she would remember it forever, but

(31:22):
her arms and legs were tired now, and she longed
for the comfort of her beautiful music box. She climbed
back in, ready for the morning when Sarafina would wake

(31:45):
from her sleep, ready to turn the music box key
and admire Camille as she danced.
