In Micah 6:8, the prophet declares, "He has shown you, O mortal, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God." This verse encapsulates God's expectation for righteous living: justice, mercy, and humility.
Jesus, in His earthly ministry, emphasized the importance to always do right, teaching that righteousness comes from the heart (Matthew 5:20). He instructed His followers to love their neighbors as themselves and to even love their enemies (Matthew 5:44), showing that doing right transcends social and personal boundaries.
The Apostle Paul also urged believers to walk in the light of God’s truth. In Romans 12:17, he writes, "Do not repay anyone evil for evil. Be careful to do what is right in the eyes of everyone." Paul stresses that when you always do right you are a great witness to others and a reflection of Christ’s love in the world.
Ultimately, the charge to always do right is not merely about outward actions, but about honoring God in all things. As Jesus said in John 14:15, "If you love me, keep my commands."
