I'm Dr.
Makeba, and I'm thrilled to beyour guide on this metamorphic
path toward embracing yourpurpose, trusting your intuition
and igniting your inner light.
In this episode, my friendTamasia Johnson and I talk about
(00:46):
the power of obedience and whyit's so important to use your
gifts and follow your lightedpath.
Take a listen and let me knowwhat you think.
Hello, hello, hello I am Dr.
Makeba and I am all for love.
My mission is to help soulssearching for answers, find love
(01:08):
and light by illuminating theirlight path, using the power of
reiki and my spiritual gifts.
And I'm so happy to extend thatto this platform Now, my goal
here is to bring people, myfriends, onto the stage so that
they could share their specialgifts too.
(01:29):
We talk about all things human, what it is that makes us human
and things that get us throughthis journey called life.
It's not easy, but we want it tobe fun and insightful as we go
along.
so today, I'm very happy towelcome Tamasia Johnson.
Tamasia's superpower is that sheis the right hand that helps
(01:53):
people make it happen.
She helps to bring ideas, desires, and goals to life on
that journey from point A to B,whether it's a weight loss
journey, marketing, a businessidea, purchasing a home, she
really helps people.
That's where she comes in andshe is helping me.
(02:14):
I love it.
Come on Tamasia say hello.
Tamasia (02:18):
Where shall we start?
Dr. Makeba (02:20):
Tamasia, we talked
about in your intro, your
superpower is helping people andI'm really interested in how you
got into that.
Tell us a little bit about yourjourney.
And why it is that you feel it'simportant to help people in this
way.
Yes.
Tamasia (02:41):
I wanna start this off
by saying that for a long time,
I fought against it, I wentagainst the natural and, and
felt very frustrated, like, whydo I always have to be the
person to help people get thingsdone right?
When I got over that, I realizedthat.
When things get caught, thingsget missed, right?
(03:03):
Goals don't get accomplished.
Ideas don't get realized.
Lives don't get changed.
Things don't get done if youdon't have a person or a team to
get you from what's in yourheart to see it in real life, to
get you from, not feeling likeyourself, to feeling like you're
a best self from not knowing youcan do it, to be like, oh my
God, I did it.
(03:25):
And so a lot of the areas I'vefall in now have come from
personal experience.
One I don't know that you know,is that I used to be 245 pounds.
Used to really struggle.
I used to have really longnatural hair.
I used to be very on the inside, the same, but on the outside,
not the same.
(03:45):
Right now, I'm like a sizeeight-ish.
Right.
Okay.
18.
even that transition with all ofmine, I get really excited if I
can do it, I wanna helpeverybody else do it too.
So I just noticed the, the valuein being able to do that and,
and learning to be obedientwhere it don't always make
(04:06):
sense.
just gotta, go with it.
And, that's, that's how, and it,and it puts me in a place of
gratitude.
Right.
To be able to go from beingfrustrated, like, wow, I gotta
be the person to be like, wow,if I didn't step up.
Maybe this person wouldn't beoff medication.
(04:27):
This person wouldn't haveconfidence.
This person wouldn't be able to,communicate their message to the
world to be able to change livesso when I think about it from
that standpoint, I'm like, okay, yeah, I understand the
assignment and I just need to gowith it, even though I don't
always understand.
Yeah.
You know?
Dr. Makeba (04:47):
For sure.
I love that.
I love that.
And of course, that's the topicfor this conversation today is
being obedient and using ourgifts.
And so recognizing that that'syour superpower is super
awesome.
I'm happy that you have.
Presented yourself to help me.
I mean, I think it's a, a coolstory how we met.
(05:10):
And so I'm gonna share that realquick.
Cause it was very much out ofthe blue.
And when I say out of the blue,I know that that means that it's
from God.
Okay?
The sky is blue, the ocean isblue.
When God sends people your way, that's out of the blue.
When those things happen, that'sout of the blue.
(05:30):
so meeting you that fine day Ihad no idea that you were going
to be helping me to establishmyself, helping me to put some
language around what it is thatI'm doing, because I've been
called to do some big work.
As you know, it's like twentyfive streams of things that I'm
(05:54):
trying to do and you're like, but wait, we need to focus.
So I wanna turn it over to youso you can ask me some
questions.
And go from there.
Okay.
Tamasia (06:08):
I'll share a little bit
about what, how we met and, and
how it worked, and thentranslate into the question.
Right.
Those of you who are listening, you know, We have that feeling
in our intuition where it'slike, I went to this thing, I
don't know how I met thisperson, and now here we are in,
in this place, right?
And then that person or both ofyou, your lives get changed in
(06:28):
some way where you had no idea,so I'm, I'm thankful that
although I'm, you know, I'mlearning about reiki by working
with you and you sharing allthat you have or what has been
planted in you to put out intothe world.
That's what I wanna kick it offwith.
So if you had to just tell thepeople who are listening, you
know, what is it that you havebeen called to do beyond the
(06:51):
reiki part, beyond the energypart so that you can do what
you've been called to do in thisworld.
Dr. Makeba (06:58):
Yes.
Thank you for the question.
Thank you for the question.
there's some listeners out therethat I don't even know know
about the Reiki piece, but it isa major component of this
transformation that I'veexperienced.
And so you talked about yourweight loss going from a size 18
(07:19):
to a size eight and how thattook dedication and, and
obedience too, because you hadto stop some of those behaviors
that led you to that point.
For me, I got a calling and itwas a clear message from God
that I was to experience a newme.
(07:44):
I didn't know what that new mewas gonna be, but a big part of
it had to do with me going toreiki class, learning about
energy healing that I starteddoing because I was having some
pain in my back.
I was having this mid-back painthat was just nagging me for two
years, and I went to a, amassage therapist regularly,
(08:05):
went to a chiropractor regregularly, and none of them
helped.
Then I happened to see this showand they were doing some energy
healing and I was like, well, maybe that'll help with me.
And so when I went and took myreiki level one class, I learned
number one, that we are allenergy beings, so we all have
this energy flowing through ourbodies and that we all have the
(08:28):
ability to heal ourselves and toheal others.
And so I was really excitedabout that.
And I started doing myselfhealing on myself, and my back
started feeling a little bitbetter.
And when it would nag me, Iwould.
Realized that a lot of that hadto do with what was going on in
my heart chakra, which I had noteven really paid attention to
(08:48):
before.
The heart chakra is right herein the chest, in the front, but
it extends to the back, it's awhole channel in your body.
So learning more about energy.
I think bumped me to a, adifferent level of
consciousness, I'll say.
And one thing that I didn'trealize when I took the reiki
(09:09):
level one class is that it wouldopen me up spiritually.
so I was then able to reallyconnect with the spirit realm,
which I had always known wasthere.
I knew that when my ancestors orwhen my people passed away, that
they lived on the ancestralplane and I could reach out to
my dad and my grandmother andask them for help and support
(09:32):
and send them love and feel themall around.
But after that attunement to myReiki level one energy I was
able to actually communicatewith them and hear from them.
And so that was amazing and I'mstill getting used to that.
But I also very shortly afterthe attunement and the
(09:55):
connection with my ancestorsreceived messages and downloads
and lots of information aboutwhat the future held for me.
And it was very comforting, butthen also very scary because you
told me.
Yeah, I heard well.
And this happened like in backin early 22, February, 2022.
(10:17):
I heard by July of 22 you'regonna open a healing hand center
and it will be called Dr.
Makeba and Friends.
And I was like, but wait, I justlearned Reiki a week ago.
How am I gonna do that?
I have a full-time job.
I am a healthcare executive.
That's what I do.
And I heard very clearly thatthat was my calling, that I was
(10:39):
to.
Spread love and light, that Iwould do that through reiki,
that I would also be a writer.
I would publish books.
I would meet people who wouldcome into my life and who would
be great friends.
I will be advised by myancestors, by my spirit guides,
by God, by Jesus, Buddha,Muhammad, like all of them.
(11:02):
And I feel surrounded and heldby them.
So, long story short try toshorten it a little bit.
This is Part of it.
It's part of the calling.
So I'm called to do this reikienergy work to ignite the light
in people.
Right.
So I can, I, I stamp my fingerand I help people's chakras get
(11:26):
back into alignment, but thenthey have to do the work.
So a lot of it is aboutself-care, self-help, pumping up
the energy in folks.
That's one thing.
I have to write.
I have to share my words so thatpeople can hear and be inspired
and learn from my story.
The other thing is invitingpeople like yourself to come
onto a platform like this, totalk about how you help
(11:48):
humanity, how you hear from God,how you are obedient to what you
know that you've been called todo.
And you know, there'll be lotsof people who come on this
program from all walks of life.
And the goal and the idea ofthat is to show folks that we
(12:09):
are all connected.
So the way that I met you wasvery much on purpose.
It may have seemed out of theblue.
But we know what that means.
Right?
So now that our paths havecrossed, we are gonna be bigger
and better together.
That's what it's all about.
Tamasia (12:27):
So I wanna we talked
about this before.
When you, if you had to share, you know, what is love and
light?
What does that look like?
What does that feel like?
How does somebody know if theyneed some love and light?
Or how does someone know theydon't have enough love and light
and something that they can do?
To, you know, have that, thatessence that you talk
Dr. Makeba (12:49):
about.
Yeah, I love that questionbecause in my mind it makes,
it's like totally clear love andlight, who doesn't know what
love and light is.
But I remember a couple yearsago, in my own life, in my own
body, in my own spirit, thinkingthat I was okay.
(13:12):
But being in a relationship andin a work environment too, that
just did not satisfy me.
I didn't realize it then, but mylight had dimmed.
So all the things, the essenceof me, I had let Shrink.
(13:35):
so the things that I used toenjoy doing, I had kind of
stopped doing.
Like I didn't know who I was.
I didn't know what I liked todo.
I was just kind of in a funk andI lacked clarity.
So when I would think about myjob that I was in, I loved the
fact that I had a job becauseespecially during the time when
Covid popped up and people werelosing jobs, and you know, there
(13:58):
was this lack of security.
I had a job.
But I didn't feel a sense ofreal purpose because I wasn't
fully able to help in the waythat I like to help, because I'm
a helper too, as in the same waythat you are.
My job prior to the one that I'mcurrently in, was as a strategic
planner.
So I would help leaders to meetand exceed their goals, help
(14:23):
them realize their vision but Iwasn't able to.
A couple years ago because ofCovid, COVID kind of took away
the whole idea of strategybecause people were dealing with
operational issues and trying tostay afloat.
So I had to back up.
And during that time I wasthinking about what my next
(14:44):
steps would be, what kind of jobshould I have and what can I do?
And I didn't really feelconfident.
To be honest, like I didn't knowhow to take the skills and
abilities that I had and eventhink about what my next steps
would be.
So I would say that the feelingthat I had then the, the lack of
(15:08):
direction.
The lack of clarity, the lack ofpurpose specifically in my job
reflected a dim light.
I wasn't my full self.
then in my relationship, I feltat the time that I was not
receiving the love that Ineeded.
(15:30):
But I didn't even fully lovemyself.
What was going on with me and mybody, I had gained weight.
I wasn't eating right.
I wasn't just feeling cute.
Hello.
I feel a lot cuter these days, but I just didn't good in my
(15:50):
body.
And so I, I blamed myself forwhy my relationship wasn't good.
You know, so I didn't feelempowered to speak up about what
it was that I needed.
I didn't feel I was being fullyseen, so I didn't feel loved.
(16:12):
But this the love that I'mtalking about now, the love that
I feel that people need tostrive for is that love of
yourself, because when you loveyourself enough, it doesn't
really matter what's going onaround you because you know what
you need.
You know what you want, you knowwhat you deserve, and so you
(16:35):
don't take.
Shit, for lack of a better word.
And when you are fully in lovewith yourself, when I say that,
I'm not saying that in anarrogant way.
you don't wanna be an arrogantjerk about yourself love, but
you wanna be compassionate andloving and respectful of
yourself.
(16:55):
And when you are there, when youfeel that, then you.
Attract a different kind of loveexperience from the outside.
that's the love and light thatI'm talking about.
For me it's very warm and veryfuzzy..
Tamasia (17:10):
Now that you know what
you know and you've experienced
what you've experienced, whatwould be some initial step
someone could take to.
maneuver their way back to morelove, more like happening that
power.
Dr. Makeba (17:27):
The number one thing
that I always recommend to
people, Is that they pray andmeditate.
There we go.
Pray and meditate.
Pray and meditate.
You know, if you don't believein God, the creator, the
universe, or whatever the prayercould be that you want to see
the light.
(17:48):
You wanna feel the light.
You wanna be the light.
Because if you put it out there,it's like manifestation, right?
If you write something down,it's out there and then you can
get closer and closer to it.
So you pray?
Tamasia (18:03):
I wanna add one thing
because when we pray, we also
gotta be obedient right?
So where does that fall into allof this as well.
What would you say?
Dr. Makeba (18:14):
That comes with the
meditation part?
Right.
Okay.
So the prayer is us talking.
God is who I pray to.
God, please show me the light.
Please show me the light.
I know the light is within me.
I know the light is surroundingme, but God please show me the
light and then I meditate.
(18:36):
So the prayer and meditation arealigned because at that point
then I breathe and I groundmyself and I listen.
I think that's what a lot ofpeople miss out on that, that
pause, that listening, thatwaiting to hear and receive.
(18:59):
And so in my meditation, that'swhen I get the clearest messages
because I'm silent, I'm quiet,I'm still, I'm focusing on my
breathing.
I'm focusing on my, my breath,my heartbeat.
But that's when I can reallyhear the voice within the and
(19:19):
the voice of my spirit guidesand ancestors and God.
So when I hear and receivemessages, sometimes they stick
and I know what I'm supposed todo.
Other times I write it down andI'm like, okay, I have to ponder
this, because sometimes themessages are like, Hmm, really?
I'm gonna do what, when, why, how?
(19:40):
You know, you have questions.
But what I found is that when Ilisten, when I receive, when I
accept, and when I'm obedient, that's when things flow.
That's when things flow.
So it all ties together in mymind.
(20:01):
Yeah.
Tamasia (20:02):
And what's, what about
if maybe I'll speak for myself
and you, just something that Ididn't actually know.
We know, we know or have heardto pray.
But then just now you mentionedthat the meditation is where we
need to listen.
Yeah.
So I just realized, I'm like, maybe I'm doing this thing outta
order.
Right.
I mean, I'm meditating, but Ishoulda prayed first so that I
(20:24):
can meditate and listen.
And, then that way it all, youknow, kind of flows together.
Yeah.
But what would someone do ifthey're not hearing anything or.
They don't like what they hear.
They don't understand how todecode what they hear.
What they're doing.
You know, what would somebody, what would someone then do?
Dr. Makeba (20:44):
that's number two.
Number two is to really explore, explore and figure out.
Where you can draw knowledge andinformation, where you can draw
support, and I am a person thatcan help with that.
With Reiki energy healing, I'mable to tap into people's
(21:07):
energetic bodies and auras andhelp align them where they're
blocked, because sometimes youcan't here, see, feel, know,
because your chakras are out ofalignment.
So you come to someone like mewho does reiki I can use my
energy to help move your energy,to open you up so that you can
(21:31):
receive better.
When you leave my.
Space or my table and I do reikion Zoom.
I can do it by phone.
There's, you know, distancereiki is really a thing and it
really works.
Or you come into my studio, wetalk and we do reiki on you.
But the key is when you leave, you have to do your own
self-care and your work and yourfollow up.
(21:54):
Follow the recommendations.
Nine times outta 10, I'm gonnasay pray and meditate.
Every day, twice a day practice.
If you don't know how to do it,reach out.
I have a meditation group thatgets together several times a
week so you can dial in on Zoomand meditate with us.
(22:14):
A lot of times I'll tell peopleto implement some kind of
energetic self-care, so if theissue is in the third eye or in
the crown shock chakra, you'lluse your hands.
And do various positions to tryto balance the, the energy flow
in those areas.
If you wanna learn more abouthow to do self-care or even how
(22:36):
to help others, right.
Your family members, yourfriends, your pets, even, you
can take a reiki level oneclass.
If you wanna take that a littlebit further, you can take a
Reiki level two class and justlearn what it means to move the
energy and it's so empowering.
I totally.
(22:56):
Totally recommended.
Even if you don't want to do itfor a living, like you don't
have to have a reiki practice tobe a Reiki practitioner.
You don't have to you know, sellyour services.
You don't.
You just really, the main thing, the highlight, I think is doing
self-care and being able to getyourself back in order if you're
(23:17):
off for whatever reason.
Now, if you don't want to learnreiki, and I don't know why you
wouldn't.
You can always come back to meand I can help, but my goal for
my clients is to help them to beable to balance themselves, to
take care of themselves.
(23:38):
So that they can help others.
That is part of my mission interms of spreading the love and
spreading the light because, meknowing how to do it is gonna
help only a certain number ofpeople, but once you learn how
to do it, you can help more and,and they can help more and it's
just spreads and spreads andspreads.
So that's the goal.
Tamasia (23:59):
Good.
And I wanna share my, my shortexperience.
With you doing some energyhealing work on me, especially
me.
Cause I know there's people whohave messaged me on Instagram,
like, how was it, was it, youknow, what did you feel like?
And so, you know, I think for meit was, it confirmed things.
(24:20):
I was like, oh, I had beenfeeling that, or I was like, oh,
I didn't know I was on the righttrack.
And so it doesn't always, atleast for me, it doesn't always
have to be a bad thing that hashappened or a bad thing that's
going on.
Right.
Sometimes it, for me, it's like,oh, I'm on the right track.
Oh, I do feel that bigmanifestation coming in now.
I, you know what I mean?
To, to keep going in that, sense.
(24:40):
And I remember The first time Iwas like, I don't know what I'm
supposed to feel.
But the second time I was like,oh, I feel the heat on my head.
You know?
Yes.
Just even being open to anexperience like that to bring
you closer to a calling orcloser to a gift or just closer
(25:00):
to the next step is also whereit can fall in line too.
I wanted to share that because Ithink sometimes you feel like it
has to be a bad thing or has tobe a traumatic experience, which
it could be, but maybe it's justa sign like, okay, I am on the
right track.
Right?
I do need to go left and getthat one position that's been on
my heart and things like that.
I'm grateful because these lastcouple months, us doing our
(25:22):
thing together, I'm like, oh,this is good.
And I wanna share one otherthing.
Cause I have to go to Biblestudy and they're already
worshiping without me.
So when I first met Dr.
I got a bracelet from her and Iremember, I'll never forget
this, actually, there was a guywho came right after me.
He was like, I want, I want thebrown one.
And I was just like, I don'tthink it worked like that.
(25:44):
And she hit me.
I didn't know.
But dude, that's not what wedid.
And you had me, kind of move myhand around the different
bracelets to see which one gaveme the feels because that was
the energy that I probablyneeded.
So I wanted to drop that tiptoo.
If we're thinking aboutbracelets and energy healing and
who to call and what to do,that's just something for you
(26:08):
guys to know that Dr.
Mck is the bomb.com.
I had a lot of fun chatting withyou and I'm only leaving cause I
have to honor commitment.
Dr. Makeba (26:19):
Okay, now I know you
have to go.
I'm so glad that you joined us,but before you go real quick, I
just wanted to put a little notethere that Tamasia is from the
Bronx.
Okay.
Tamasia (26:29):
I am from the Bronx!
Dr. Makeba (26:32):
Bronx girls are all
that.
I'm from the Bronx, too Thankyou so much for joining me And I
will see you and talk to youagain very soon.
