November 12, 2023 | Dawson Jones | Acts 4:32-5:10
The Holy Spirit is a church planter. In Acts 5, the birth story and sudden explosion of the church is interrupted by a startling story of the death of Ananias and a Saphira. The death of a salesman and a saleswoman. Two hypocrites die, and the newborn church stands as witness. The Spirit as church planter is committed to the purity of the church’s message and so is committed to the purity of heart of the church’s members. When hypocrisy seeps into the church, when people play the expected part in a spiritual movement, but have selfish agendas of their own, the Spirit acts. The Spirit won’t allow hypocrisy to alter the trajectory of his people, or paint a distorted picture of God. He takes it seriously, and so should we.
