Speaker 1 (00:15):
Hey everybody, it's
George Blitch with the Son of a
Blitch podcast and I made itthree years.
That's right.
Today marks the three-yearanniversary.
When I first picked up amicrophone, sitting across the
kitchen table with my buddy, matthew Mitchell, talking about
where I was going to go withthis podcast, I mean with a name
like Blitch, son of a Blitchkind of led itself right in the
(00:36):
works and I was like, all right,I'm going to start interviewing
people.
And, for those who didn't know,I used to travel around the
world interviewing indigenouselders with my buddy, harvey
Arden for National Geographic, and we would kind of sit at the
feet of these elders and askthem to share some wisdom, share
some stories, record theirhistory and, without editing it
for any purpose, leaving it asis to share the words that they
(01:00):
wanted to share, kind of being aconduit.
We called it being a bridgekeeper, and I kind of wanted to
do that same thing when Istarted this podcast.
I wanted to provide a platformto talk to some interesting
people that I've met along theway, reaching out to other
people who are doing interestingthings and really promote those
and talk about art and creationand, you know, whether it's
(01:21):
through books or through music.
You know I've been very blessedin the last few years working
with you know, whether it'sthrough books or through music,
you know I've been very blessedin, you know, the last few years
working with you know differentuh publishers and being able to
put out uh podcasts that werewith books.
You know Jack Carr, the BradThors of the world, multiple New
York times uh bestsellingauthors and being able to work
(01:41):
with some of these musiciansthat have been uh bands that I
grew up listening to and, youknow, wanting to perform in, as
I was a musician myself I guessstill am, but that was something
I always wanted to be thedrummer of Nine Inch Nails, and
then I get to interview thedrummer of Nine Inch Nails and
that was kind of fun.
It's about as close as I'll getto sit in that drum throne and
just having one that I recordedwith Tim DeLauder from Tripping
(02:03):
Daisy Polyphonic Spree, anothergroup of bands that have been
inspirational, and a lot ofdifferent groups, and there's
more coming up.
You know I thought abouthitting 100 and hanging it up
and I realized that I'm notgoing to do that.
Now I have some other projectsthat I really want to work on,
and in this next year I've got abook that I want to finish up
about a guy named Bob Lemons, and he was a former slave turned
(02:25):
wild Mustang or one of the mostfamous black cowboys of all
time.
Uh, he's just a legendary manand my family uh worked with.
Uh, he had a ranch next to mygreat great grandfathers, my
great grandfather, and theyworked together, side by side.
Uh, they were like brothers, man, great friends, and so we we
have a lot of personalartifacts and a lot of his
(02:47):
stories that he's passed down, that our family recorded, uh,
that aren't anywhere else.
I mean, there's been a lot ofbooks and little chapters he's
been talked about, but never afull fledged book.
So that's something I'm workingon, uh, working on a screenplay
there too, and there's a fewother projects that I got in the
works.
But I do want to continue tointerview people.
I mean, I'm just fascinatedwith the idea of sitting down
(03:09):
and chatting with people and,you know, kind of finding out
what makes them tick and whatmakes certain these exceptional
people such, and I just lovethat.
I love exploring, havingconversations, connecting with
people.
It's something that I feel likeI've grown to be much better at
.
You know, listening back tosome of those earlier podcasts,
it was a skill that I was stillsharpening back up.
(03:29):
I hadn't picked up those toolsin the toolbox for you know,
quite a few years.
As I said, I used to travelaround and do this for a living
and interview people, but a lotof times I was behind the camera
setting up the microphones, editing things, you know,
building websites and doingstuff, but I wasn't really
necessarily.
You know, it took a littlewhile to kind of get those skill
(03:50):
sets up to where I could feelcomfortable sitting in that seat
and now I feel like I can sitdown and talk with anybody about
anything.
And you know, as many of youguys know, it's a lot of hard
work.
I'm a one-man show doing this.
I'm scheduling all theinterviews, I'm doing all the
research and you know I spendmany, many hours researching
each person I have on, eachperson I'm going to have on.
(04:15):
Uh, sometimes you know in 20hours that I'm trying to soak in
all the things that they'vedone in the past so that I'm not
boring them and recreatingsomething.
I want to find something new.
I want to touch on, uh, youknow, topics that maybe they
haven't explored before, or just, you know, really trying to do
a new angle and making sure thatit's still fresh and
invigorating for them to sitdown.
And some of these people whomay have been on interviews
thousands of times, you knowthat thousand and one time.
(04:35):
You know what is it that'sgoing to make that one special.
So you know I put a lot ofeffort into these and it's
something that it takes a lot oftime.
So I might slow down a littlebit in this next year to come.
You know I've kind of done a.
You know where are we now?
Kind of every year on theanniversary of, you know,
looking back on the year pastand what's the year future and
that's something I've alwayskind of done on my birthday too
(04:56):
I look at the year past and whathave I done?
You know, what are somesuccesses, what are some
failures, what can I build on,what do I want to do in the year
to come?
So you know I haven't reallyfully sat down and grasped
everything about what it is thatI want to do in the year to
come, but you know there's a lotof different people that I've
interviewed that you know, kindof serially.
We'll come back on here, jackCarr, when he has his next book.
You know certain friends ofmine who are, you know, some top
(05:19):
end chefs that have some bigprojects coming out, you know,
or some cookbooks, whatever itis that you know they're going
to be releasing new albums thatyou know, or tours that some
bands are coming out.
I'll be, uh, promoting those aswell, and so I'm very excited
to see what this next year comes.
Um, and I just want to thankeveryone who has tuned into the
(05:41):
audio version or the videoversion of these podcasts, or
even the little shorts or reelsthat I've put out, and who
shared those and commented youknow, the giveaways, things
we've done, uh, you know, andthere's a lot of people who have
shown me a lot of support andit means a lot to me and I just
want to say thank you so muchCause, you know, I didn't know
that I could get to a hundredpodcasts and here we are and now
(06:04):
it's going.
I don't know what the end dateis on this, I don't know if
there's another hundred in me orbeyond, but, uh, it's been a
very fulfilling thing and I'mjust honored that, uh, people
are out there and they'reinterested in, you know the show
and uh, what I've beenproducing and it means a lot to
me to get all the feedback and,you know, all that support along
the way.
So just want to take a secondto say thank you.
(06:25):
Um, like I said, guys, a lot ofuh really cool interviews coming
up.
Uh, there's some really neatartists that I've interviewed.
Uh, the next one that'll becoming up will be with Tim
DeLauder from Tripping Daisy andPolyphonic Spree.
They got a tour coming up.
Uh, we'll be discussing thatand you know, make sure you guys
go check that out over attrippingdaisycom, get your
tickets that tour.
Uh, go over to Good Records and,uh, you know, recently Tim lost
(06:49):
, uh, his really dear friend, chris Penn, who was a co-founder
of Good Records, and he passedaway.
And you know I'm going to havea QR code and check out the
links below for you guys thatwant to help contribute to the
GoFundMe for Chris's family.
Please do so and I'll just becontinuing to.

who you know.

might want to cover.
