This weekend we received the incredibly sad news that Stephen Gaines aka Baba Zumbi aka MC Zion passed away on August 13th, at the young age of 49. Our condolences and hearts go out to his family, friends, and close ones, especially Amp Live and Deuce Eclipse.

Zumbi and Amp formed the group Zion I and released their debut album called Mind over Matter in the year 2000. They followed up with an impressive 12 albums as well as numerous collaboration albums, EPs, and features. In 2010, we recorded an interview with Zion I that we want to share with you to remember Baba Zumbi.

We talk about how they met in College, their creative process of making an album, their inspirations, and their perspective on hip hop culture.
