Meet Dr. Tywanna Smith!
Dr. Tywanna is a Professional Development Strategist, International Sports Manager, Award-Winning Filmmaker, Best-Selling Author and Speaker.
She is the author of Surviving the Lights: A Professional Athlete's Playbook to Avoiding the Curse.
Dr. Tywanna gives advice to sports players regarding finances, branding, and business. In 2016, she launched The Athlete's Nexus, a sports marketing and business management business for international professional athletes, including those in the NBA and NFL.
Dr. Tywanna Smith has worked with more than 50 professional athletes across the NBA, NFL, WNBA, and internationally for over a decade. Because of her experience as a pro athlete and her business acumen, she understands how to help athletes experience success outside the lines while actively playing.
After retiring from professional athletics, Dr. Smith entered the corporate world with Merrill Lynch, as a Registered Financial Advisor to several professional athletes. She found herself helping her clients protect their assets, build and monetize successful brands, coordinate community initiatives, secure marketing endorsements, and more.
To better prepare athletes for their time in the 'lights,' Dr. Smith has created several programs and resources - including best-selling book [Surviving the Lights], her second published work [Plan TOO], her signature teen financial literacy curriculum [Teen Money Box], and her student-athlete professional development workshop series [PRO-Ready]. She not only shares the WHAT, she shares the HOW!
Dr. Smith frequently shares industry secrets and business strategies to help her fellow athletes monetize a life outside of sports, particularly Black football and basketball athletes.
