Maddie Ross began writing and releasing songs in 2014 upon discovering her queer identity. Until that time, Ross hadn’t seen liking girls as something cute or romantic because she had no model for it. She's stated that “Growing up, the word ‘lesbian’ meant something shameful at worst, and tolerable at best. Our spotlight is on MusiCares.

MusiCares understands that members of the LGBTQIA+ community may face challenges in obtaining medical treatment, such as discrimination from medical providers or insurance companies.

They've noted that elevating LGBTQIA+ people in music is much bigger than any song, artist, or album. It's about providing tangible aid to a marginalized community.

That's why MusiCares Health & Human Services Team hosts programming—both virtually and in-person— Year-round; which tackles the needs of the music community as well as, offering financial, mental health support, and addiction recovery assistance for those who qualify.
