Welcome back to Spinning Wheels, Parkinson's Conversations with Jim Here, hosted by Jim Redmond and engineered by Mike Loghrin. In today's episode, we're excited to introduce our guest, Rick Suvanto, from Toronto, Ontario. Not only is Rick diagnosed with PD but he is also an organizer of events big and small and an advocate for people with Parkinson's Disease.
Join us as we discuss Rick's journey with Parkinson's that actually began with his mother. This experience helped Rick become more aware of potential PD symptoms that allowed him to recognize his symptoms when they appeared.
Rick also discusses how he works on making the best out of a tough diagnosis: the keys are exercise and community. One way of achieving both those elements at the same time is an event that Rick helps organize in Toronto. It is called Stand Up To Parkinson's (the sit to stand challenge) and it is held on World Parkinson's Day, April 11th. A part of a world wide challenge initiated by the PD Avengers, Rick organizes the Toronto contingent. The world wide goal this year will be 2 million repetitions.
