When You Don’t Love Your Gift (or Wish You Had Another One)

#73: Last episode we explored how our spiritual gifts flow from our spirit—through our conscience, fellowship, and intuition. It was a beautiful reminder that our gifts are not surface-level traits. They come from deep within, from the part of us that connects directly with God.

But this episode, I want to talk about something that quietly shows up in a lot of us after we discover our gift. It’s that voice in our heads that says: "I don’t like this gift. I wish I had a different one."

Maybe you've felt that way. Maybe you took the quiz and thought, "Ugh... I knew I was a Server. I wanted to be a Leader." Or "Compassion? Seriously? That gift feels heavy." Or maybe you wish you had a gift that felt more "seen."

If that’s you, I want you to know you’re not alone.

If you know your gift: This week, ask God to help you see your gift through His eyes. If there’s any comparison, envy, or resistance in your heart, just bring it into the light. Ask the Spirit to show you how He uniquely reveals Himself through your gift—and where that gift is needed in your current season.

If you’re still discovering your gift: Pay attention to the gifts you’re secretly hoping you don’t get. That resistance might actually be pointing to something God wants to heal or reframe. Ask Him to soften your heart and reveal what He’s placed in you.
