Joy. Hey, beautiful
soul, welcome to spirit. Speak
Easy. I'm Joy Giovanni, joyfulmedium. I'm a working psychic
medium, energy healer andspiritual gifts mentor. This
podcast is like a seat at thetable in a secret club, but with
mediums, mystics and thespiritual luminaries of our
time. So come behind the velvetropes with me and see inside my
(00:24):
world as I chat insider stylewith profoundly gifted souls, we
go deep, share juicy stories, laugh a lot, and it wouldn't be
a speakeasy without greatinsider secrets and tips. You
might even learn that you havesome gifts of your own. So step
inside the spirit speakeasy.
Hey, beautiful soul. Welcome infor another episode of spirit
(00:46):
speakeasy. This week, we arecontinuing one of our most
popular series here on the pod.
Ask a medium anything. And todaywe are diving into things like
the Claires. If you ever heardof the Claires, clairvoyant,
Claire, sentient. We're going toexplain all of the Claires.
We're going to talk about energyprotection tips, how mediumship
(01:08):
really works, and a few other ofyour questions that you have
sent in. It's one of the mostfascinating questions I get
asked that I'm wearing a deepdive today. How do mediums
actually see or hear, and I'musing the air quotes spirit and
is it different for everyone?
We'll explore what's reallyhappening during a soul to soul
communication, how the blendingof energy allows spirit or the
(01:31):
spirit person to share theirmemories, emotions and
personality, and why no twomediums, or even no two readings
ever unfold exactly the sameway. You'll learn what's
actually happening when weexperience those subtle Claires,
that sixth sense, theinformation that's received
beyond our five senses. EveryClaire explained. I'm going to
(01:55):
give you a quick overview ofthem, plus a brand new one that
I just learned when I wasworking on this episode how
mediums translate symbols, emotions, memories into clear
and meaningful messages ordetails during a sitting why
spirit people might communicatedifferently from session to
session. And we'll wrap up witha listener favorite are
(02:17):
mediumship readings draining andhow does one protect their
energy or clear their energyafter a reading? So whether you
are a developing medium, acurious, intuitive or simply
fascinated by what's possiblewith the unseen world, this
episode gives you behind thescenes look at what's really
happening when a medium connectswith the spirit world. So I'm
(02:40):
going to dive right in again.
This is the sixth in the series.
So if you don't hear yourquestion in this episode, there
are five other ask a mediumepisodes, and I try really hard
not to repeat the questions orthe answers. And you can always
send in your question for thenext in this series, because
I'll keep going with this seriesfor as long as we have the pod.
(03:01):
So let's dive in with our firstquestion, how do mediums
actually quote, see or hear thespirit world or the spirit
person, and is it different foreveryone? Okay, this is a great
question, but it's a little bitof a loaded question. So it's
going to be a bit of a longanswer, because I really want to
deep dive and unpack this foryou. Of course, I can't speak
(03:22):
for every medium, but from myexperience, after meeting and
working with probably at least afew 100 mediums over the years,
of my own development, there arecertain aspects that seem to be
true and possible for almost allmediums, that being said, every
medium has their own mediumshipand our own relationship with
(03:43):
our mediumship that is deeplypersonal and unique within these
similar experiences. Let's getmore specific. I'm going to
really keep peeling the layersback with this one, because I
know some of you are developingyourselves and and this is an
important question. So what'shappening for all of us as
mediums is soul to soulcommunication. It's a blending
(04:04):
of souls, the medium soul, orthe person in a body, with the
disincarnate soul or the spiritperson who's outside of a body.
This blending of souls createsor allows a mystical experience,
as they blend their souls withours, or with mine as a medium,
they can trigger certainexperiences and emotions, mental
(04:24):
pictures, memories of soundsthat could be something like a
song, a word, a phrase, sensation, sometimes in our
physical body, or just theknowing of a sensation like the
memory of a sensation like aheadache or an injury, let's
just say, and so much more. Andwhen we receive one experience
(04:45):
after another from the spiritperson,
that is how the story or thesession builds.
We continue to blend further asthe session goes on and on. Or
that's what I do, and that's howI'm trained. So I know. There's
lots of other mediums trained inthis evidential style, and with
each new experience that thespirit person is helping me
(05:07):
receive, I am getting more andmore details, emotions, things
about their story and whatthey're needing to communicate
in that session. So this isfacilitated by the power of our
soul, the energy of the soul, let's just say, and love with a
capital L, that love that weshare, that pure, unconditional,
(05:30):
divine love that lives withinour souls and between us. Even
if we had a challengedrelationship with that person,
they still have love with us.
And when they cross over to theother side, they are the
strongest, best version ofthemselves, even if they had a
lot of challenges orcomplications in their human
form, in their physical body. Sohopefully that makes sense, and
(05:52):
I'm going to keep diving in aswe go. But one of the things
that we all have in common ashuman beings, regardless of the
specific details of our life, isthis spectrum of human emotions,
right? We all feel sad, we allfeel lonely, we all feel
discomfort, and it might applyin different scenarios in our
lives, but we all have thoseemotions in our own personal
(06:14):
ways. The emotions are similar, even if the situations in which
we experience them in our livesare very different. So it's
through the emotion that weunderstand and connect as human
beings, right? So it's throughthis emotion that we understand
each other, and it's how weunderstand the spirit people. So
(06:35):
here's where I'll quicklyexplain the sixth sense, aka the
subtle senses, or aka theClaires, quote, unquote. So the
Claires are something that isused as an abbreviation for
these subtle senses. The SixthSense is actually a group of
senses, and they're essentiallyways of receiving intuitive or
(06:56):
mediumistic information, right?
It's a channel in which wereceive information. So I'm
going to talk quickly about thedifference between subjective
and objective. You'll hear meoften say it as like objective
and subjective, just because Iwant to really differentiate
those in my speech. They'repronounced normally, though. So
(07:17):
subjective is when we're havingan internal experience seeing
something in your mind's eyewhen I'm telling you a story
about my day, and you canimagine the pictures. You can
imagine me doing some errands, running to the store, standing
in the checkout line. You'reimagining that inside, whereas
objective is seeing somethingoutside of ourselves. So if you
are someone who has seen like anorb outside of yourself, or kind
(07:42):
of like a shadowy representationof a person in your life or in
your home that's objectiveoutside of ourselves, kind of
like you and I would see eachother if both of us have good
physical eyesight. So it'soutside of ourselves. Most of
the Claire experiences aresubjective meaning internal to
(08:03):
the person receiving theinformation or perceiving the
information. And Claire's reallyare sensory channels extra
sensory it's why they call itextra sensory perception. So
extra sensory channels throughwhich information is received
and perceived. And while theseways of receiving information
may sound separate. And it usedto be taught that each of these
(08:23):
is separate. Maybe you've heardlike, oh, you're a clairvoyant
or or this person is aclairsentient. It's not actually
quite correct in the way I wastaught and in the way we
understand it today, weunderstand them as all part of
the same instrument, is the waythat I have really come to
understand it in a deep way. Soessentially, if we're going to
(08:44):
compare it to an instrument likethe way the piano has the
encasing, that's one part of thepiano, the strings, the keys,
the pedals, they all haveseparate facets, separate
functions, but they workentirely together. So that's how
I like to think of theseClaires. And this is based on
what I was taught by my one ofmy amazing mentors, Andy Bing,
who you guys know I talk about alot here. We all have all of the
(09:07):
Claires that I'm about to list, even if some of them seem
initially stronger than others, all of them can be trained to
function optimally. And we allhave all of them, whether you
identify as a medium or not. Weall have these. Claire sentience
is clear feeling is what thatword means. It really is sensing
(09:28):
physical sensations or emotionsthat convey information. For
example, you could understand ifyou closed your eyes and allowed
yourself to imagine. And all ofthese Claire's work alongside
the faculty of our imagination, again in Andy Bing teaching, so
you could close your eyes nowand probably imagine the
(09:49):
sensation or feeling of being atan airport excited for a big
trip, versus the sensation orfeeling of going into a church
or a sacred city. Space, whetherit's a church or a mosque or a
sacred location on the planet,it's a different feeling, right?
So that's essentially how theClairsentience works. In a
nutshell, clairvoyance is clear, seeing, receiving information
(10:14):
through inner or outer visualimpressions. So you might in
your mind's eye see an image, amemory, an object, a scene,
right? But it's in your mind'seye. It's internal. And a lot of
us get confused here because wethink, Oh, well, that's my
imagination working to imagine.
Well, sometimes it is and andsometimes it's not, because the
imagination is so intertwinedwith these Claires and the way
(10:36):
that it works to come into ourawareness in ways that we can
understand. For example, I mightsee a mental image of Europe or
Hawaii along with a feeling ofthat place if I've been there.
And the other thing to note hereis these Claire's work through
the medium's own experience, which we'll talk about that, but
(10:58):
they're not giving me a picture, like a photo in my mind of their
trip to Hawaii. They're givingme a picture in my mind, or
helping me receive a picture inmy mind. About an understanding
I have of Hawaii. I have been tothe islands a few times, so it
could be something I experiencedwhen I was there, but it could
also be I've watched movies, Ikeep thinking of that Adam
(11:20):
Sandler movie, 51st dates withDrew Barrymore that takes place,
part of it on the islands ofHawaii. So sometimes I could
even see a picture from a movie, and then it's the feeling of,
oh, I went to that place, or,Oh, my parents are going to go
to that place. So that's sort ofhow that works. That's the
clairvoyance, the clear seeing, and remember, most of it's
(11:42):
internal. Clairaudience isclear. Heal hearing, hearing.
Claire audience clear hearing.
It's hearing internally. Andit's not like a disincarnate
voice talking in your head. It'soften in your own voice, or it
could be in the memory ofsomeone else's voice. It feels a
little different than that innerself talk, but it's quite
(12:03):
similar to that. Actually, it'shearing things like words,
names, tones, songs I get quiteoften, or sounds internally. It
can be external, but like Isaid, 95% of these experiences
are internal. So sometimes whenI'm doing a reading, I actually
(12:25):
hear the melody of a song. Ijust had this recently with a
person whose partner had passedto the other side, and they were
giving me it's a very old song,I want to say, like a Smokey
Robinson type song, if you evenknow who that is. And I said it
to them, and they were like, Ohmy gosh, that's his favorite
(12:45):
singer. So that can work thatway. There's lots of ways that
this can work. Claire cognizanceis clear, knowing you just know.
Have you ever had it where, like, you don't know why you
know? You just know. You don'tknow how you know. You just have
a feeling, or you just know, well that is clear cognizance.
(14:03):
Information arises as anunderstanding without
necessarily a bunch of factualdetails or clear context or
prior knowledge of context, wejust know so simply, just
knowing someone's name, itdoesn't mean that I receive it
in thought words, or that I seeit in my mind's eye. It's that I
(14:24):
just suddenly know i Thishappens sometimes for the cause
of passing or even what they'retrying to communicate. Sometimes
I just might know, and I don'tknow how I know necessarily,
except for that I know it's theclear cognizance or clear
knowing. And remember, we allhave all of these. So I'm not
surprised if, as you'relistening to this, you're
(14:44):
thinking, oh yeah, I have hadkind of an experience like that.
Claire gustiance is cleartasting, receiving information
through a sense of the taste.
It's typically not like theactual taste, like as if you
were eating, I don't know, acinnamon muffin. It's probably
not the same taste, but it'slike the memory of the taste of
(15:06):
it, the memory of the taste ofthings like coffee or mint or a
favorite food connected to thecommunicator. It's not exactly
the actual taste, but more likethe memory of the taste. If you
have a loved one that's a greatcook in your family, whether
they're on this side or theother, you can kind of imagine
the taste of their holidayspecial meal that they make.
(15:28):
Let's just say, while factchecking these, okay, I'm going
to move on to this one that Ijust learned that I didn't know.
There's also Claire salience, which is the smell that's for
some reason I didn't make it onmy list, but that's clear
smelling. And sometimes it'slike, you just remember the
smell of where I often get thisis like the smell of the person,
(15:50):
the smell of their perfume. Ijust had it recently with
someone's Nan, their grandmathat had passed, and I was very
aware of the memory of the smellof like that palm. John's cold
cream. It's like a very specificlotion II smell, and my sitter
knew exactly what it was. Sothink about the smells that you
can remember in your life rightnow, even if you're not
(16:14):
currently smelling it, it's likethe memory of the smell. So this
one that I learned that I hadn'tquite heard of before was Claire
Chrono chronometry, clearchronometry, chronometry, it's
sensing of time which I'vealways had this and I didn't
realize there was a separateClaire for it. Essentially, it's
(16:35):
perceiving information connectedto a specific point on someone's
personal timeline, past, present, or potentials for the
future, like I was saying withthat trip, I might be aware, oh,
we're going on a trip. It's notin the past, it's in the future.
It hasn't quite happened yet, orwe're planning it now. So I
just, for whatever reason, partof my work has always been a
(16:56):
decent awareness of thetimeline. So sometimes someone
from the spirit world might becommunicating about something
that happened around the time oftheir passing, and then as part
of the story they're sharing,I'm aware that we're moving way
back on the timeline to whenthey were much younger in their
life. For example, it's justbeing able to sense without
relying on linear cues. It's notsomeone giving me a date. It's
(17:20):
not predicting time as infortune telling, but rather
feeling where we are in theirlife, the energy or memories of
that phase in their life, andlike where on the timeline it
is. Those of you that everworked with me as a student, you
hear me talk about the timelinea lot. Mine, often in my mind's
eye, if I'm going to receive itvisually, it looks like, kind of
(17:40):
like an old school historytimeline. When you used to draw
the line with the little ticksto remember what years things
happened, I typically don't seethe years, or don't receive the
years. I just kind of know, oh,this is when you were much
younger, or this is when youwere a kiddo, and they're
talking about these memories. Sowe can perceive different points
on the timeline. Not everythingis right now, especially if it's
(18:01):
a person in the spirit worldwanting to share the story of
their of their life, it's oftena different position on the
timeline and something, sometimes they're talking about
something that's coming up rightaround the corner. I know we've
talked here about spirit peoplenot predicting our future,
because the future is not predecided, but if it's something
that we already have decidedthat's coming up just around the
(18:21):
corner, they will know about it,and they often will share, I had
this most recently with someonethat's doing some family
planning, and they're in theirown partnership, talking about
the potential of bringinganother child into the world.
And the spirit person wassharing like, Oh, I'm going to
be a grandparent again. They'retalking about creating another
(18:41):
baby. And I, I brought thatinformation to them, and they
were like, Oh my gosh, no oneknows that. We just were talking
about that just this pastweekend. So that's something
that's hasn't happened yet. It'snot predicting the future.
They've already been discussingit. So that is Claire
chronometry. Chronometry, what?
However you say that word. It'sa weird word, like I said, I'm
just learning it. So that isthat the way this spirit person
(19:02):
would get me to tell their storywith all of these Claires, we're
blending souls, and then I'mreceiving these mystical
experiences of often a memory, afeeling, a sound, and they're
all together at once. It comesvery quickly, and the energy
moves very quickly. So the way aspirit person would get me to
tell their story, of, let's saytheir illness, hypothetically,
(19:25):
is likely very different fromthe way they'd get you as a
medium, if you're a medium, toshare their story, because we
have different memories asindividual people and different
experiences. So again, they usethe medium's life experiences
and emotions to get as close tothe story they're wanting to
share as possible. So I mighthave a memory in my mind of a
(19:48):
time that I was in the hospitaland I know, oh, okay, we're in
the hospital in this memory, versus maybe you are someone
that's never been in thehospital, and you remember
visiting a parent or agrandparent or a friend in the
hospital, and it might come thatway for you, or you might just
get the feeling of a hospital.
(20:08):
If you've ever worked in ahospital, let's just say so
they're using our ownexperiences as a medium to share
their story, and then eachspirit person may also play my
instrument slightly differently, like I was saying, I visualize
the Claire's as an instrument.
We each are as a medium. Arehave our own unique instrument,
and they play a little bitdifferently because of our
(20:31):
different memories. But then thespirit person might play our own
instrument a little bitdifferently, slightly different
in each scenario, usingdifferent memories, different
emotions, experiences, to get meto express the exact same
illness. So one person that wasin the hospital might show,
might help me, might help createa visual internal experience of
(20:54):
the time I was in the hospital, and then I'll know, oh, I was in
the hospital. This is Hospital.
Whereas another person to helpme understand their illness
might bring up to my mind a timewhen I visited someone else in
the hospital and I would stillrealize, oh, hospital. So
there's different ways to getthe same information across.
(21:16):
Now, why are they using thosedifferent things? There's always
so much more packed into everymystical experience than meets
the eye or meets the firstglance, I'll say so often it has
to do also with the feelingsaround that specific memory.
Perhaps it has to do with theactual illness itself. Perhaps
(21:38):
it has to do with which person Iam in the memory. So there's
lots of reasons, and it's uniqueto everyone, because each
person's story is totallyunique, even the stories that
are quite similar. You know, inthe last few years, I've had
several readings with spiritpeople who have passed due to
covid, and even though theircause of passing was all covid
(22:00):
related, the personal experienceof each person was a little
different, because they're adifferent person, right? So we
have similarities, but specificdifferences, and they all will
also communicate slightlydifferently and use different
memories. Sometimes it's to getas close using my memories as
they can, but sometimes it'sthat's the way they're
(22:20):
communicating. And I've even hadthe same spirit person, for
example, if I am reading for adifferent family member of that
same spirit person, I might havethe same spirit person use
completely different ways to getme to tell their story. Now, why
is that? Well, it could bebecause if I feel like it's the
(22:42):
exact same, and I'm remembering,I'll get two in my head, and I
won't be able to honor theirstory in the same way, because
I'll be like, I already knowthis. I already know this
person. Or it could just be,because in the last session, I
was communicating with theirmom, and now in this session,
I'm communicating with theiradult child, let's just say,
meaning like my my recipient, myclient, is like a parent versus
(23:07):
a child of this spirit person.
So they would want to sharetheir memories differently, and
there would be differentemotions for each of these
people. So they would want totailor it to what they want to
communicate to that specificindividual as well. So there's
lots going on, as you canimagine. I've seen in meditation
our sixth sense, like I wassaying, the subtle senses. The
Claire's work like an instrumentwith almost like these energetic
(23:30):
strings to pluck, and they canpluck up, or as they blend with
us, trigger create to ourawareness, different memories,
keys to play, a melody toinvoke, to help us share their
story, right? And they're alldoing it in a different way. So
just like a musician, onemusician might play the bass in
one way, and a different onemight have a sight, a slightly
(23:53):
different, subtle vibe to them,it's sort of similar. And again,
I always complain about this, but there's not exact words to
match this mystical experiencequite right. So please know I'm
doing the best I can with thehuman language, but it's still
not exactly quite right, becauseit is a mystical experience. So
each of our instruments as amedium holds our own, memories,
(24:16):
experiences, emotions, references, etc. So there's lots
going on during thiscommunication all at once.
We used to in my developmentgroup, we would ask our teacher
Andy, being like, well, how areyou receiving all this and how
are you making it seem so easy?
And he would always joke andsay, it's like a duck paddling
(24:37):
across the water. All you see isthis graceful duck or Swan, you
know, cruising across the top ofthe water, but underneath
they're paddling and paddlingand working and blending and
figuring it out. So that'sessentially how it's working. I
always loved that examplebecause it just felt so so right
to me. Okay, so our nextquestion kind of is the next
(24:59):
follow through that I would wantto talk about with this. So it's
perfect when spirit people usesymbols, memories or emotions to
communicate. How do youtranslate that into words as a
medium? This is a greatquestion. I have a feeling some
of these are from developingmediums. So the Spirit people
are always using all of theClaires all at once in different
(25:21):
proportions depending on thecommunicator. So when I first
started developing any of thesegifts, what I was told, or what
I always heard, was just saywhat you see, say what you see
in your mind and over time andthrough again, my mentor Andy
Bing and a couple other mentorsI've worked with, and others, I
learned that we are receivinglots of information all at once,
(25:45):
like we just talked about, andas part of this, there's a
working understanding whatthey're trying to communicate
using all of the above. So oftenthere will be a member. That I'm
receiving. But there's also, atthe same time, emotions. There
might also be sounds happeningin that mystical experience that
(26:06):
I'm having. All of these thingsare happening all at once. Some
of them might feel more obviousthan others, but I'm using all
of the information they'reconveying as best as I can, and
trying to perceive as much of itas I can at once. And then I
will communicate the detailslittle by little. That's a big
key to this too, is sometimes Iwill do the mental math and say,
(26:27):
like, okay, they're, they're,they're doing this. So that must
mean this. And I'll jump ahead.
For example, I had someone thatwas, I like, did dirt bikes or
motorcycles when they wereyoung? And I, in my mystical
(26:47):
experience, was aware of anumber on the front of their
motorcycle, like those streetracing motorcycles. And in my
mind, I jumped right to Oh, youmust have raced motorcycles
competitively when you wereyoung. And they said no. And I
said, Okay, so I backed it alittle bit, and I said, Let me
understand, can I understand itthis way? Did you on your dirt
(27:09):
bike, your your motorcycle? Didyou have a number on the front
of it, like there's a almostlike a race number, like three
digit number on the front ofthis bike that you had? And they
said, Yes. So it was me makingtoo much of it, whereas what I
was actually aware of was themdoing these trails and jumps on
their own or just with friendsoutside, and this number on the
(27:30):
front, I wasn't actually awareof the race. I kind of put that
on it so we can kind ofmisinterpret is the best,
closest word, but it's veryspecific. What we're receiving,
often, much more than werealize. So little by little,
I'll communicate the details, and then my client or recipient,
I just want them to say, yes, noor I don't know. Either it's
(27:52):
correct, it's not correct, orthey just don't know. Like, when
I've received readings, they'veI've received details sometimes
that I just, I just wouldn'tknow. For example, I wouldn't
know when my grandma was 20, youknow something about her? Let's
just say so I just wouldn'tknow. And any of those answers
is okay, but working little bylittle allows me to make sure
that I'm correctly understandingand correctly delivering the
(28:16):
information. I if they say no orI don't know, there's a lot of
things that could be possiblethat's going on, but it could
just be as simple as I'vemisinterpreted something like
with the motorcycle. So thespirit person, I continue to
blend with them, and they willshare another experience to
further clarify themselves andto clarify the last experience
(28:37):
we can't I used to hear it say alot like, go back to the
experience and feel into it.
Well, we can't go back to theexperience, because it's a
mystical experience that wereceived in a fleeting moment,
and it's not there anymore. Sowe're going back to our memory
of the mystical experience, which wasn't right the first
time, so it's probably not goingto be right the second time.
(28:58):
Does that make sense? I hope I'mexplaining this clearly enough
and for all levels, is myintention here, obviously. So as
I continue to blend, I willreceive another mystical
experience. It might even bequite similar to the one I just
received. That's just helping meunderstand it a little bit
deeper. And then I continueworking. I'm working the whole
(29:18):
time with the spirit person, with my communicator to do my
best job for them. And you know,I'm human, like we talked about
in the last episode. So knowinghow to express these things into
words is partly just practiceand experience, like having
enough experience in our owndevelopment and partly working
(29:39):
through our own emotions, because if there's an emotion
that I haven't processed as aperson, I won't understand it
properly from the spirit world.
And it's also partly spendingtime sitting with the spirit
world, building a relationship.
The more you can understand andprocess your own emotions, the
and work on your own personaldevelopment, the more that the
(30:02):
spirit world, the Spirit peoplecan access, and the more that we
know clearly what to do withwhat we are receiving. This is
something that comes over timeand is a continual work in
progress and mediumship indeepening the nuances and
specificity, like specifics ofthe details of the communicators
story that they need to share.
(30:25):
So this is something that'snever done for any of us, and I
always joke, because I know it'snot the fun part of the work,
and my students even get reallysick of doing like the personal
development, but it really is ahuge part of what makes this
possible and what makes itdeeper and deeper, and then
sitting with the spirit world isa really important thing too.
And it's not necessarily sittingwith the spirit world to intend
(30:49):
to force an experience, ordemand an experience, or even to
blend with someone specific. Ijust move my awareness to the
spirit world as a world to theother side, and. Sit there, and
it gives them an opportunity tolearn how to work with me, the
practice part of it, I'm goingto keep quoting Andy here,
probably just because I don'twant to take credit for his work
(31:12):
the way Andy says. It is, likewe always think, as mediums or
someone developing any of thesespiritual gifts, that it's 90%
practice, right? Like getting inthere and doing practice and 10%
personal development or orsitting with the spirit world.
And it's actually the other wayaround. It's 90% sitting with
the spirit world personaldevelopment and only 10%
(31:33):
practice. So I don't know ifthat'll make you feel better or
worse, but that is the way itactually works. This next
question that I want to come onto now is our mediumship
readings draining? How do youprotect your energy? How do you
clear your energy after a day ofreadings? This is a great
question. It's kind of a multipart question. So for clarity,
(31:56):
I'm just going to go througheach of the parts of this
question separately, becausethey are different questions. So
let's start with our mediumshipreadings draining. I've learned
more and more over the yearsthat this actually fluctuates
and changes and is more of ariver that I try to flow with
than a predictable, staticoutcome. I've had experiences or
(32:20):
especially, like, around groupreadings, when the reading is
really energizing and I'm, like,on a little bit of a high, and
it takes me a while to come downand settle my energy after that
group reading. I've also hadsessions that were a lot to hold
emotionally, especially if therehappens to be, like, a few in
that day that are really toughemotionally. I might just prefer
(32:44):
to be quiet and low key for therest of the day in my own
energy. But there were times inmy life when I lived with other
people that even if I was a bittired, I still could make dinner
and engage and do the thingsthat I needed to do. So unless
I'm on the brink of like gettinga cold or flu or something. I'm
usually not completely knockedout by readings. But there is
(33:07):
also the idea of honoring yourown energy. And at different
times in my work, I've been ableto do more sessions in a day or
less sessions in a day. And overtime, you kind of find that
sweet spot. But then even then, things can shift and change, and
it can fluctuate based onanything from something like I
was saying being a littlerundown or tired or under the
(33:27):
weather, to what else is goingon in my personal life. If I'm
having a challenge in mypersonal life, whether it's like
in a relationship or maybe myawareness is drawn elsewhere
because someone very close to meis going through something that
I'm really supporting, I mightfeel a little more rundown just
in my energy, just like all ofus, right? If you have someone
(33:48):
that's having chaos or traumathat you care about, that you're
helping, when you might haveless of a bandwidth for other
things, it's kind of like that.
It could also be affected by theseason of the year or the time
of day. I have learned aboutmyself that I'm typically
stronger in thebeginning to middle of the day,
and as the day gets later, Idon't love doing readings at
night. It's just not when I feelthe strongest. That's just the
(34:11):
way my energy works right now,who knows, in five years or 10
years, I might be the strongestin the nighttime. So it is
something to just flow with. Andfor me, it's become more about
trying to honor and manage myenergy overall. For example, it
doesn't feel good anymore, likein my private life to just like
stay out late at night. But forsomeone else, they might find
(34:34):
staying out late at night reallyenergizing right now, that's not
it for me. So I think part ofthe ongoing journey of our
mediumship, just like part ofthe ongoing journey of our
lives, is to know ourselves moreand more and what works for us,
even with something likenutrition. For example, I don't
love to eat a big meal before Ido readings. I don't love to eat
(34:56):
a big meal in the middle ofmeetings. I'll have like little
readings meetings, I'll havelittle snacks sometimes if I
need it, just to keep my energyand my blood sugar stable, but I
probably would eat later or muchearlier, let's just say so it's
just the little nuance thingsthat we learn about our body and
ourselves that are all a part ofthis work and a contributing
factor. Now the next part ofthis question was, how do you
(35:19):
protect your energy? Okay, letme start by saying I don't
believe, and it's been mypersonal experience, that I
don't need to protect my energyfrom the spirit world. From the
other side, I always receivesome sort of growth or expansion
or learning or even sometimeshealing from being in the energy
(35:40):
of the spirit world, like I wassaying, especially with like,
bigger group readings, orsometimes I have a client that
just in their energy is isreally fun, and sometimes their
spirit person is really fun.
Those are uplifting for me too.
But I also sometimes receivehealing. I'm always learning
something. I'm always growing.
So I don't believe. Leave, andit's not my experience, and I
(36:02):
need to protect myself from thespirit world. I do believe that
I need to protect my energy inmy mediumship as it relates to
the people and situations in myregular human life. So I'll give
some examples of this and what Ido differently on days that I
have readings. This is justwhat's working for me right now.
It doesn't mean it'll always bethis way, like I was saying. So
(36:24):
I've learned over the years thatI need to guard my energy the
morning before readings bythings like trying to make sure
I have extra time to get to theoffice. And if I'm going into
the office, I like to be thereearly. I typically like to be
there about 45 minutes to anhour before my sessions, some of
it's that I want to make surethe temperature is good in
(36:45):
there. I want to make sure thatthe internet's working. I can't
tell you the times that I've hadto go in and, like, reboot the
internet, because it's not quiteworking. So basically, for me,
these are things that minimizemy anxiety and also leaving time
to accommodate any of the weirdthings that we might encounter
just in our life, I typically, over the years, have tried to
(37:06):
keep my office is not too toofar from home, so it's not like
a huge commute for me. Rightnow, my office is maybe just
like a few miles from my house.
Maybe it's under five miles, forsure, and because I go by in San
Diego, if you know, with thezoo, I go by the zoo on my way
to the office, and that'sthere's a freeway option and a
(37:27):
non freeway option. But forexample, like on a weekend or a
Friday, I'm not taking the sideroads, because there's probably
going to be a lot of zootraffic. And you never know,
there could be a detour or anaccident or just a lot of
traffic, so minimizing forthings like that works really
well for me to kind oforchestrate so I don't have
anxiety around getting there, and then I could just chill and
(37:50):
go. That's not everybody, obviously, though, I also have
learned that I need to be awakeenough at the time of readings
or events. So this might meanwaking up early, or it could
mean trying to sleep in, like,if I have a group reading later
in the evening, I want to try tosleep in to give myself more
energy later. It could be coffeeor the amount of caffeine that
(38:11):
I'm having that day. Usually,I'll keep my errands pretty
light. If I do have to, like, run to pick something up or run,
there's a little grocery storenot too far from my office.
Sometimes I'm going in to grabsomething for lunch ahead of
time, but I keep it very lighterrands, not anything, if
possible, that's going to besuper demanding or heavy, but it
all depends on how much time Ihave today. I'm going in for
(38:32):
readings a little bit later. I'mrecording this in the morning at
home, my home office, and I havejust several hours in the
morning. So today I'm recordingthis pod that I already had
written. I will make my lunch, Iwill go pick up some
prescriptions that I havewaiting for me at the pharmacy,
and then I'll go to the office, which are very light errands,
(38:55):
right? But I have plenty oftime, and I still will get there
probably an hour before, justbecause that's what I like to
do, and answer emails and thatkind of thing. So not over
exerting or rushing crazy, butdefinitely being fully awake at
least for a few hours before myreadings. There was a time where
I started very early in themorning. I started taking
clients at 8am Pacific at onetime, and before that, I used to
(39:17):
do 730 Pacific, becausesometimes people on the East
Coast, it's already 1030 forthem, or I have clients in
Australia, different parts ofthe world. So I just have
learned over the years thatthat's not what works for me.
But when I had my kids still inschool and living at home, that
early time did work for me. So Icould be done to get home, to
pick them up for school orwhatever. So that's just what's
(39:39):
working for me right now.
Another thing that's a littlebit sticky is typically, there
are only a handful of people inmy life that I will take non
emergency phone calls from onthe morning before a session. I
want to be very general, becausesome of the people I love listen
to this podcast, and if you'relistening, it's probably not
(40:00):
you, but you know, we all havepeople in our life that we love
very much, that maybe arechallenging people or a little
bit unpredictable in theirpersonalities or energy. I'm
probably not talking to thosepeople before a session, because
I want to keep my energy steady.
I want to I want to stay prettychill and upbeat, just as a
person. So there are very fewpeople that I'm taking non
(40:21):
emergency calls from. Of course,if someone had an emergency, I'm
taking that call. And you know,it is what it is. That's just
what's working for me right now.
So there are certain people thatI care about very much that I
really won't take calls frombefore I have readings. I'll
just wait and call them backlater. That's fine, right? The
other thing for me that's veryimportant, which will not apply
(40:43):
to everyone, obviously, is mytummy. Some of you know that I
have something called ulcerativecolitis, which means my tummy is
very sensitive and can gettriggered by certain things. So
basically, I obey whatever isgoing on with my tummy at the
moment of that day and planaccordingly. So sometimes that
might mean. Mean, I can't havecoffee that day because my
stomach's like on the verge ofbeing flared up, so then I might
(41:07):
do tea instead. So I'm justreally working with my body and
my energy to make it optimal asmuch as I can for my sessions.
And I kind of have a luxury nowdoing this, because I live on my
own, and my kids are grown andout of the house, and I don't
currently have a partner in mylife, and I don't as of right
now, which we'll talk about in afuture episode. I don't have any
(41:27):
little furry babies right now,so that could change, if those
elements change, but right now,I really do have a lot of
control over the way I set up mydays, but you might be in a
phase where you do still havekids at school, or tons of
errands to run, or maybe you domediumship as just a part of
your work. And you actuallystill have in the work we
sometimes joke and call it amuggle job, you still have, like
(41:50):
a non spiritual job that youhave to focus on. So just flex
and do the best you can withwhatever your life circumstances
are right now and whatever youfeel like you need in your
energy to be the best that youcould be in that moment, really,
right? I also try to protect myphysical health, since this is
part of me, having the optimalpersonal energy going into
(42:12):
sessions I have worked under theweather, and it is possible to
still have a very successfulsession or group reading or
event, but I really don't liketo work sick. And the truth is,
you pay for it on the other end.
So even if you have a lot ofenergy during the group reading,
it really takes it out of youeven more on the other end of
(42:34):
it. So I'm thinking of a studentdemonstration that we had many
years ago, and a friend and Igot sick from someone else that
was there that was sick, thatwas in the room. It was like a
big group of us doingdevelopment. We would meet a
couple times a year for these, like, week long intensive
workshops, and there was someonein the room of probably, like, I
(42:55):
don't know if it was like 40people, someone was very sick,
and got a bunch of us sick, basically. But we had this
student demonstration, meaning abunch of the public people, non
mediums, or some of them weremediums, were invited to be
sitters, to come to this event, and there were several of us
that were going to work asmediums and give communication
from the spirit world. I thinkthere was like five or six of
(43:17):
us, and two of us, myself and agreat friend of mine were very,
very sick to where we were onthe fence, back and forth, of
like, are we not going to dothis? And we were both able to
work, and both able to givecommunication and then drive
home. We were kind of far awayfrom home a couple hours, and we
were able to drive home, andthen we were both kind of tapped
(43:37):
out for a couple days, justexhausted and really in the flu
of it all, but it just in thatmoment we felt like we were
already there. We'd already beenwith everyone all week. It
wouldn't have been right to puton the other three mediums,
everything, and just ditch outat the last moment, because we
were getting sicker as the daywas progressing. And it was
like, right before the groupreading, where we just were
(44:00):
like, Oh my gosh, this is notgood. So it is possible. It's
not ideal. And if there was away to cancel or to reschedule
that, or, like, if I'm going tosomeone's home to do a group
reading or an event, I probablywould reschedule it, just to be
honest. But not all mediums worklike this. At all these things
that I've described, I just findthis is how I feel best and what
I prefer, and it really haschanged over the years too.
(44:23):
Okay, so this next part of thequestion, how do you clear your
energy after a day of readings?
Okay, this is a great question.
I will say it depends on theday. I'm a little bit of a
creature of habit, but I alsodon't like things too rigid. So
sometimes, if I feel like I haveto do something, it makes me I'm
(44:44):
a little bit oppositional in mychart. Those of you that know
me, so it depends on the day, sometimes I will use an
energetic tool, like somethingthat I call the sticky rose,
which I've taught many times.
Those of you that have ever beenin free workshops or guided
meditations or the freecommunity healings with me.
You've probably heard me sharethis tool. It's essentially a
(45:04):
visualization of like a rose, and you intend and visualize
releasing or shifting yourenergy as a part of this. So
sometimes I'll do that. Mostdays, it's more about shifting
my own energy through thingslike a relaxing drive home when
there isn't traffic that driveby the zoo is very beautiful and
scenic, and lots of trees, and Ialways see butterflies, and the
(45:28):
buildings are really beautiful, and listening to like a podcast
that I love or music that Ireally like, coming home, and I
always change my clothes as soonas I get home, and I'm usually
fixing something to eat orhaving some tea, and Depending
on what I have the rest of theday, I'll reset my energy
accordingly. So for me, that isoften how I'm just resetting my
(45:50):
energy. It's not necessarilyclearing like I'm holding on to
someone else's energy, but Icould do an energetic clearing
if I felt like I needed to, andI will once in a while right now
these days. Days For me, it'smore about intentionally
shifting my energy, rather thana formal energy clearing,
especially depending on what Ihave going on the rest of the
(46:11):
day. This is something I teachas a part of all my courses as
well. But like for example, if Iam going to go and see a play or
hear see a comedian or somethinglike that with friends later, I
typically will just make sureI'm shifting out my energy. I
don't want to totallydownshift into like, a very
tired gear. I want to keep itmellow so I can kind of get back
(46:33):
in the swing of things againlater. But it really just
depends what I have going on. Idon't really feel like I need to
clear my energy any more from areading than I do from, like
running to Costco, for example.
So I feel like that's how ourenergy works. And I don't feel
like I need to clear my energyany more from a reading than I
(46:56):
do from just like doing errandsand being outside. So hopefully
that helps and makes sense. Whata beautiful conversation today.
I really hope this episode gaveyou a deeper understanding of
what's really happening behindthe scenes of a mediumship
session. That it's not aboutquote, seeing or hearing in the
way that we do with our physicalsenses, but it's about that
(47:18):
incredible blending of soulsthrough the love that we share
and the energy that allows loveand memory and emotions to be
received, perceived andtranslated through us as
mediums. You've learned howthose subtle Claires work all
together like keys on the sameinstrument, and that every
medium's connection is uniquelydifferent because it's filtered
(47:42):
through our own lifeexperiences, memories, emotions,
and we're all very uniqueindividual people this side and
the other. We also talked abouthow to stay balanced in this
work, protecting your energy ineveryday life and knowing when
it comes time to replenishyourself after sharing your
light and remember mediumshipworks through the love that we
(48:02):
share. It's a soul to soulcommunication and a mystical
experience. You have access toyour own loved ones, even if you
are not a medium at all. If youdon't identify as spiritual or
sensitive or any of it, youstill have access to your own
loved ones. Right now, they'reonly ever a heartbeat away. They
are able to hear you, to feelyour emotions and to spend time
(48:26):
with you anytime. No mediumrequired. And if this episode
has helped you see the process alittle more clearly, I'd love it
for you to share it with afriend who's curious about how
mediumship really works, or evento leave a quick review wherever
you are listening to this orwatching this, whichever podcast
