Bhagavad Gita Ch. 3: Freedom From Karma
Arjuna is still confused. He wants to retire from active life and be a monk. But Krishna says, “no. Do your dharma, your duty and fight! But do it in a spirit of renunciation and offer all the results to the Supreme. This is the best purification. By working without attachment, one attains the Supreme. destination”
Performing sacrifices for the pleasure of the Divine or God, guarantees freedom from karmic reactions. A self-realized person never gives up his or her duty. He acts for the sake of welfare of others.
Everyone must engage in some sort of activity in this material world. But actions can either bind one to this world or liberate one from it. By acting for the pleasure of the Supreme, without selfish motives, one can be liberated from the law of karma (action and reaction) and attain transcendental knowledge of the self and the Supreme.
