Brian Plachta (00:01):
Welcome to Spirituality on the Go, the
podcast where you can experiencepractical tools to put in your
spiritual toolbox so you canconnect with the wisdom that
exists within you, find innerpeace and live with happiness,

(00:22):
even joy, in the midst of a busylife.
Today, I'll guide you through apowerful experience allowing you
to hear the inner voice of God,that voice of love and wisdom,
your inner teacher, that'salways available to you.
Before we begin with themeditation, let me give you a

(00:42):
little background on the ideathat we all have the ability to
hear God's voice.
Throughout history manyspiritual decisions have spoken
about an inner presence, adivine guidance that speaks to
the heart and whispers to thesoul.

(01:03):
The whisper of the Holy Spiritit's often been called.
We see it in the Old Testamentstory of Elijah in the Book of
Kings.
After Elijah fled into thewilderness, he found himself
alone in a cave, seeking God'sdirection.
A mighty wind tore through themountains, but God wasn't in the

(01:25):
wind.
Then came an earthquake, but Godwasn't in the earthquake.
And after that a fire, but Godwasn't in the fire either.
And finally there came a gentlewhisper.
And in that whisper, Elijahrecognized God's voice.

(01:48):
This ancient story teaches usthat God's voice is rarely in
the loud, dramatic moments, butmore often in the quiet spaces.
And this thread of continuing tolisten to the voice of God Jesus
tells us in the New Testament.
Jesus spoke about that innerconnection that we all have

(02:08):
through the Holy Spirit.
In the Book of John, Jesus says,my sheep hear my voice.
I know them.
And they follow me.
Jesus paints the picture of ashepherd whose sheep are so
familiar with him that theyrecognize his voice instantly.

(02:31):
Even among all the other noisesaround them.
In the same way Jesus invitesyou and me to learn to hear and
trust God's voice of love in ourown hearts.
Over time, many people like youand me have found simple
practical ways to stay close tothat inner voice, that inner

(02:54):
teacher.
And one of the clearest teacherswas a man called Brother
Lawrence.
Brother Lawrence was a 17thcentury monk who taught that the
fastest way to connect with Godis through a continuing, loving
conversation with God.
Brother Lawrence says, approachyour relationship with God as if

(03:18):
you and God were the only twobeings in the world.
For Lawrence, it wasn't aboutdoing anything extraordinary to
connect with God.
It was about focusing, payingattention moment by moment to
the Divine Companion with anongoing conversation with God.

(03:40):
Both in meditation, quiet times, and also in the active part of
the day, like speaking to yourbest friend, speaking and
listening in a relationship oflove.
In more recent times.
Mother Theresa, now St.
Theresa of Calcutta, echoed thesame wisdom with her own

(04:04):
simplicity.
Mother Teresa once said, Godspeaks in the silence of our
hearts.
If we listen, we will hear hisvoice.
Mother Teresa spent an houralong with her sisters every day
in silent meditation before shedid her work.

(04:26):
And that sense of hearing God'svoice that Mother Theresa talks
about reminds us that God'svoice, that stillness that we
enter into isn't emptiness.
It's creating a sacred spacewithin our hearts of quiet.
A sacred hush, or the innervoice of God can be heard.

(04:48):
And perhaps maybe the simplestway to understand this journey
of listening for the voice ofGod, the whisper of the Holy
Spirit is by thinking about howa newborn child comes to know
the voice of their mother ortheir father.
At first for that infant theworld is a swirl of sounds and
sensations.

(05:09):
But over time, throughtenderness and closeness, the
infant begins to recognize oneparticular voice, that voice
that becomes a source ofcomfort, trust, and joy.
In the same way as we sit withGod in stillness and love our

(05:32):
hearts, begin to recognize hisvoice, a voice that calls us
home to peace, wisdom, deepbelonging, inner guidance to
journey through the ups anddowns of life.
In a moment, I'll guide youthrough a meditation that will

(05:53):
help you experience hearing thevoice of God, that sacred hush
that speaks directly to yoursoul.
The meditation is designed tohelp you step onto the bridge
between heaven and earth.
The space where divine wisdomflows freely.
Your inner teacher speaks in thesilence of your heart.

(06:15):
As you settle into this guidedmeditation, remember this isn't
just an exercise.
It's an invitation to tap intothe wisdom that's always
available to you.
Whether you feel it immediatelyor simply open yourself up to
the possibility, it's aninvitation to trust that the

(06:36):
voice of love is speaking to youin ways that are gentle, guiding
and deeply personal and uniquefor each one of us.
So to begin our meditation, Iinvite you to find a place where
you can be safe, alone in thequiet.

(06:57):
Once you find that space, take amoment to get comfortable.
Maybe sit back.
Close your eyes and take a deepbreath in.
Let your breath gently flow inyour body as we begin.
As you exhale, allow yourself torelax.

(07:19):
Feel the flow of your breath, the spirit of God flowing within
your body, your lungs, throughout your whole body.
Take a moment to relax yourshoulders, your jaw, your hands.

(07:41):
Allow your mind to sink intoyour heart.
Just be here.
Now in this present moment.
Now imagine yourself standing onthe edge of two worlds.

(08:02):
One foot is firmly planted inthe world of the earth.
Clocks seasons, the constantmovement of life.
And the other foot in yourimagination is grounded in the
spiritual realm, a deeper, moretimeless reality within you,

(08:24):
where divine love and wisdom,God's grace, flows freely within
your inner being.
Allow yourself to imagine thatyou stand in the space between
heaven and earth, flesh andflame matter and mystery.

(08:48):
Feel the earth beneath your feetsupporting you, holding you.
Know that you are connected tothis earth that God has created.
Feel your presence grounded inthe world that you live in, this

(09:11):
earthly world that's beenbeautifully created by God.
Next, as you breathe in and outslowly, draw your focus to your
heart space.
Imagine there's a sacred hush, aquiet that exists in your heart

(09:38):
beyond the noise of the world.
That sacred space within you islike an inner cave, an inner
sanctuary that's past the veilof thoughts, past the veil of
the world.
And imagine in this inner spacethat the voice of God speaks in

(10:07):
gentle whispers, like a softbreathe, a soft breeze flowing
within your body, always callingyou, always guiding you in the

(10:31):
stillness of your heart.
Hear if you can, a gentle voicethat calls you home.
Home to your heart.
The voice isn't distant.
It's not outside of you in theexternal world, that voice is
within you.

(10:52):
It's the voice of love, thevoice that sustains and nurtures
your soul.
Listen, can you hear it?
A gentle whisper, a voice that'sgentle, yet bold.

(11:13):
It's the voice of God speakingwith the sacred hush within you.
It's like a breath of eternallife and light that sustains
you.
A flame that never consumes, that's always alive within your
heart, Your soul.
Always present.

(11:37):
As you listen deeply you mighthear the voice as just a
whisper.
It might be just a sense ofpeace, a calm, an emotion of
just resting in the silence.
Whatever you experience, let itjust speak to your soul.

(12:02):
Let it guide you into the truthof who you are, your true self
in God.
You are one with the God of lovethere within your heart space,
within your soul.
And if you don't hear anything,if you don't have a whisper,

(12:24):
that's okay.
Just rest in the comfort ofbeing here now in the silence.
Let yourself rest in this placeof divine presence.

(12:47):
As you rest there in your heartspace within you, know that
you're safe.
The voice of God is calling you, guiding you, holding you in
love, always.
This voice of love, the innervoice of love is the bridge

(13:10):
between heaven and earth.
It's always within you.
Always present, alwaysavailable.
It takes time and a dailypractice of silence to hear that
voice of love.

(13:32):
But just like Jesus, BrotherLawrence, Elijah, and St.
Theresa Mother Calcuttaexperienced, that inner voice of
love is there for you.
All you have to do is listen andbe still.

(13:58):
Know that you are connected tothis divine flow within you.
You are one with God.
God is one with you in thestillness of your heart and your
soul.
Feel this divine presence withinyou, flowing through you like a

(14:22):
river of light, like a gentlebreeze, a simple river of water
trickling within your body.
This is the voice of God callingyou to your truest self.
You are always held by the love, the wisdom, the guidance of God.

(14:48):
God's inner voice is alwaysthere to guide you whenever you
take the time to stop andlisten, and train your soul with
gentle discipline.
Just like you learn to hear yourmother or father's voice, the
heavenly divine voice is a voiceyou can learn to hear in the

(15:17):
quiet of your heart.
When you're ready, I invite youto gently bring your awareness
back to this moment.
Feel your feet on the earth.
Feel your breath moving in andout of your body and through

(15:38):
your body.
Know that the voice of God isalways within reach, waiting to
guide you, to love you, towhisper to your soul.
Take a moment if you would, tojust thank God for this divine
presence, for that whisper ofthe Holy Spirit, inner voice of

(16:02):
love that's always there.
Trust this connection is real.
It's yours, you and God.
Always available to you.
As we wrap up today'smeditation, I invite you to
spend some time to reflect onyour experience.

(16:24):
What did you feel?
What did you notice?
That's the voice of love.
God is speaking to you in yourown unique way, and it's
different for each one of us.
Maybe you felt a sense of calmor heard an inner voice, a
whisper of wisdom, a word, aphrase; or maybe you simply felt

(16:46):
the presence of divine loveholding you, within you.
Whatever you experienced trustthat it is real.
Trust that the inner voice ofGod is there always for you.
And if you didn't get a clearmessage or experience anything
today, that's okay too.

(17:08):
Sometimes the voice of Godspeaks so softly.
It may take time to tune intoit.
The important thing is you'vetaken the step to listen, and
that's the beginning.
The beginning of wisdom.
The more you practice beingstill and listening, the clearer

(17:31):
this voice will become to you.
So I invite you to take a momenteach day to go into the quiet,
be still, and listen, and trustthat God's voice will speak to
you just like Mother Theresapromised, like Jesus promised.

(17:54):
The inner voice of love iswhispering in your soul.
Until next time, remember, thevoice of God is always there
calling you home as your innerteacher guiding you with wisdom
and love, be still.

(18:16):
All you have to do is listen.
