Speaker 3 (01:01):
Dick Girardi, where are you today?
Speaker 4 (01:04):
Madison, Wisconsin? John for the Penn State Wisconsin game at
one o'clock, the finale of the regular season. I'll just
tell them Sean. On January second, Penn State was twelve
and two, two and one of the Big Tens since
then three and thirteen, and they're two and ten in
games decided in the last two minutes, and they're the
(01:26):
biggest underdog they have been in any game this season.
They're getting eleven and a half at Wisconsin today where
they have They have not won in Madison in thirty years,
and they have never won in the Cole Center. The
last time they won, they weren't even in the Coles Center.
Speaker 3 (01:40):
So we're taken for what it's worth saying they chance.
Speaker 4 (01:47):
They always have a chance, and they Unfortunately, because the
new format in the Big Ten tournament, the bottom three
teams get relegated. You do not get to play in
the tournament. So Penn State will not be in Indianapolis
next week. But there is a possibility because of this
new tournament in Vegas, the Crown and the Knit, I mean,
they're going to need tons of teams. It's possible they
(02:09):
couldn't get a call. Now. Whether they're interested or not,
I don't know, but anybody's liable to get a call
for these postseason tournaments. Now that they're sixteen in the
Crown and thirty two in the knit. So we'll soon.
Speaker 3 (02:22):
And we got plenty of college basketball.
Speaker 5 (02:24):
Get a first round matchup of Nova Penn State.
Speaker 3 (02:26):
Yeah, let's not somewhere.
Speaker 4 (02:28):
I like it. I like it, well, you know, I
bet it. No, But Mike, so I don't have to
make a long run.
Speaker 6 (02:33):
Yeah, if they go to Vegas, number of games in
Vegas like correct?
Speaker 4 (02:38):
Yeah? That and that's not until the week before the
final four. I don't know who's going to be interested
in that. You have to spend two weeks getting ready,
I mean after you didn't get to make the NCAA.
I don't know who's into that. See, I'm hoping for
Penn State at Princeton, Penn State at Saint Jose, Penn
State at Buldova, that any of them would be perfectly
fine in the mid game for me, and in another
home game.
Speaker 5 (02:57):
I can't imagine.
Speaker 6 (02:58):
And again I don't mean to cast spurt, but let's
say Villanova does not win the Big East and they
have to win the Big East now because of the bad.
Speaker 5 (03:06):
Loss at Georgetown or so.
Speaker 6 (03:08):
I can't imagine if they go into their kids and say, yeah,
we're gonna we're gonna sit around for two weeks practicing
and then we're gonna play games in and they're and
they're gonna look at that was all.
Speaker 3 (03:19):
Villanova probably wouldn't be able to field a.
Speaker 5 (03:21):
Team the year that Jay. God bless Jay.
Speaker 6 (03:23):
He had one bad year in twenty twelve, and he
sat there and he tall, yeah, yeah, we're gonna go
play and whatever to see what was it that Dick
the one we had a home in a three game series.
Speaker 5 (03:32):
The last torn, the last you with the Jay was
all excited.
Speaker 6 (03:41):
For about a day because they could practice in this
and we're looking at him and we said Jay, and
then I said, Jay, if you lose another game, you're
gonna set a school record for losses.
Speaker 5 (03:49):
They held a pression option.
Speaker 7 (03:50):
Next day.
Speaker 5 (03:50):
Jay's like, we're not gonna play good good.
Speaker 4 (03:56):
You know what a team like villing Over with all
their seniors. I mean, it's gonna be like one of
those one of those bowl games right where you're not
playing for a national title. Guys are going to opt out.
They're not, like you said, they're not going to even
have a team. So I don't know what's gonna happen.
Speaker 8 (04:09):
That are eligible to play next year, are going to
transfer out anyone.
Speaker 6 (04:13):
That lost the other night and it was almost predictable.
You know, we've seen that.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
Game, say it before.
Speaker 6 (04:18):
But if they had won that game, they still would
have had a chance maybe by getting to the final
of the Big East, which.
Speaker 4 (04:25):
I think that's right now. I think that I think
that's fair to depending on how everything played out. But yeah,
now they're in a position where they're going to have
to beat probably some combination of if they get to
the semifinals Saint John's and or Mark Henner Creighton, and
that's just not very likely.
Speaker 6 (04:41):
But they wouldn't they have to beat somebody decent just
to get to the semi final.
Speaker 4 (04:45):
Well, yeah, I'm just I'm giving them that, OK, I
got answer. Yes, Yeah, their chances are minimal at best,
and at the bottom line, unfortunately, are just not good enough.
And then it's just a question of what they're going
to do about the coach situation. I suspect they're going
to have to make a change. I think we're at
that stage. Unfortunate, but I think that's kind of where
(05:05):
we are.
Speaker 6 (05:05):
Yeah, they've beaten Marquette, they've beaten Saint John's, and they've
beaten Yukon.
Speaker 3 (05:11):
Yeah, I mean true, all good, Yeah, name some of
them and it's not just the.
Speaker 2 (05:19):
Losses, but it's it's how they're losing. They they should
have probably won over twenty games this year, like it.
Speaker 3 (05:24):
The most likely should have been.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
Villanova should be a tournament now seventy to eighteen. Yeah,
so they should be well over twenty wins. But they
do things like that. And this was posted online and
I'm taking it, but it's something that you know has
been I've talked about a lot that Villanova late in
these games have a lead, Villanova late in these games
has control of them and loses it. They led Xavier
(05:48):
fifty four to forty eight with four minutes forty seconds left.
They led Georgetown sixty three to fifty five with three
minutes thirty three seconds left. They led Yukon fifty three
forty nine. They led Georgetown in the last game sixty
nine sixty with three minutes thirty seconds left.
Speaker 3 (06:01):
They lost all of those games.
Speaker 6 (06:03):
And hasn't the criticism John Benn that the offer becomes
Eric Dixon and nothing like late in the games they
kind of.
Speaker 3 (06:10):
Yeah, and even laying games, it doesn't even become Dixon.
They can't make a field goal, they can't and anything
from the floor. They can't do.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
And the thing is is, you only need one play
in the some of these circumstances. Just give me one
good offensive possession and you likely win the game.
Speaker 3 (06:25):
They scored.
Speaker 6 (06:26):
They scored the other night. Georgetown can't win the game,
right if they get like one?
Speaker 3 (06:30):
Yeah, pretty much? Yeah right, I have.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
I have a theory on that. When when you have
a bill I was not the only thing that's just
happened to and you have those kind of leads and
start to go away. Any coach in that situation after
if you have two bad possessions, you then need to
call whatever your best players. And I don't see him
doing it. They come down, teams jack up, crazy shot.
(06:52):
If you've got two bad possessions, not true of really
any time in the game, and you can see teams
in floating all the time, and they'll know it's not
the only wonder is the most obvious example for us.
A couple of thoughts as we get into the show today.
Nicola Jokics last night the first thirty twenty and twenty
game in NBA history. Thirty one points, twenty one revents,
(07:14):
twenty two assists, one hundred and forty nine hundred and
forty one OT went over the Suns. And it's also
it's his twenty ninth triple double of the year. And
check this out. Only Oscar Robertson has had as many fifteen, fifteen,
and fifteen games as Yoki just had this year, like seven.
The MVP, he's not SGA is going to win it.
(07:36):
That's fine, he's, you know, on one of the best days.
He's having a ridiculous year. And sure, that's fine. That's
how it works. And I'm going to throw this out
since next Sunday is Selection Sunday, we got all the
conference tournaments are under way, the big ones are good
under way this week. Since nineteen eighty five, right when
the tournament was expanded to sixty four teams, so we're
talking forty years now, only seventeams in time have won,
(08:01):
have won the championship and won their games by more
than one hundred points. I'm gonna throw it out through
the show and everybody's going to guess as to who
those teams are. And I'll tell you this, the nineteen
eighty five Villanova team is not one of them. In fact,
they won by the least amount of points of any
of the teams in the last forty years.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
Oh yeah, that was can you can you repeat that question?
Speaker 4 (08:25):
Yeah? Yeah, So seven seven teams that won championships NCAA
Championships college basketball since nineteen eighty five, when the tournament
expanded to sixty four, have won their six games by
more than a combined one hundred points.
Speaker 5 (08:39):
Wow, hey, deck one thing on And by the way,
you guys aren't old enough. The eighty five Villanova team
was one of Raleigh mass Amino's greatest coast and Rally
was a great coach. He could just be a pain
in He asked Rally what he did in that tournament
to win that tournament?
Speaker 3 (09:00):
Just nuts and they beat some real goods. Yoki stick.
Speaker 6 (09:03):
The twenty two assists knocks Will out of the record
books because Will had twenty one. That was the record
for anytime you take Will out of a record book.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Dude, my hat's off to you.
Speaker 4 (09:16):
Now.
Speaker 3 (09:17):
That's yea.
Speaker 6 (09:17):
I know it's an overtime game. I get it, you know,
but he is he is freakish. And and all those
people that thought that Joe was better and Joe's great,
when Joe was at his todd Joe was a force.
I get I get all that he's not Jokis. I'm sorry,
I don't ever want to hear that.
Speaker 8 (09:35):
And how many years have we been watching Jokics and
I still like, am just flabbergasted whenever I watch him.
Speaker 3 (09:41):
He just looks like the.
Speaker 8 (09:42):
Old slow guy at the gym that's playing pick up,
you know, and then he drops these these these dimes
and and they like that, you know, plays like that.
Speaker 3 (09:52):
Luca yea, Luca plays same exact way, and he does the.
Speaker 5 (09:56):
Same stuff, the passes, the shots there.
Speaker 8 (09:58):
It's not your typical like a freak out at European Yeah,
that's what it is.
Speaker 3 (10:03):
But my hat's off to him because.
Speaker 4 (10:04):
He is the second second round draft choice of the
Denver Nuttits. It's hard to believe that he's just kind
of an afterthought. Nobody had a clue. So a couple
other thoughts. The goodest rolling today six Ers have now
slipped at twenty one and forty one. They're two and
a half out of the play in, but they're getting
closer to the bottom five. They're only a half game
(10:26):
ahead of the Raptors for the bottom of the fifth,
their tied with the Nets. They're improving their position. We
got Mike at ten o'clock, Arnold Palmer at bay Hill
and Orlando Shane Lowery leaves at minus six And I
told this to Mike last night. I'm driving to meet
Joe Jiuliano for dinner here in Madison and I will
go by Oberg Street, A B E. R G. S. O.
(10:47):
Man Ludwig is at minus one.
Speaker 5 (10:50):
Actually he got minus six.
Speaker 4 (10:54):
Yeah, minus eight for Shane Lowry. Again, that question I
throw out there, and well, everybody can have a guest here.
At one point. We got a lot of good college
hoops today. So basically what this question is about, who
are the best championship teams in the last forty years.
That's what we're talking about. I have an opinion on
own my team. I've said this for a while who
(11:16):
I think is the best team, but people will have
their opinions on it. So hoop games today, I think
one we need to focus on locally. Saint Jose is
eleven and a half point favorite at lasal Be the
final home game, final Big five Games, final local game
for Coach Dumpy. The Atlantic ten Tournament goes on to Washington, DC,
starting basicalek Saint Jose's hot. By the way, they're playing
(11:38):
really well down the stretch. Billanov's finished their regular season. Also,
Penn is at Princeton today at two o'clock. They are
getting seven and a half. Mike, what are how many
of the inter row they lost to Princeton there it's some.
Speaker 6 (11:51):
Crazy Oh my god, it's double digit's like ten or no,
I think it's like twelve or more something, And it's
like it's like, oh my god, the number twenty, like
twenty two or twenty four or some goofy number.
Speaker 5 (12:07):
I would be remiss if I didn't ask you this.
Any thoughts on on Reynolds breaking Jamiir's scoring record at hawk.
Speaker 4 (12:14):
Kill, Congratulations, yeah, congratulations. I thought it was great that
Jamiir was there. I love the fact that he had
that shirt, you know, passing the torch. That's just Jamiir. Uh,
you know, I don't I don't know. I originally mistaking
Eric was there for five years, but he hasn't been
He did it in four years. So good friend did
a great career. It's funny he hasn't had as good
a season this year as at least by the numbers
(12:35):
he's had in other years. But you know that just
tells you. He's been a really good player for a
long time, and that program was a dead program two
years ago, and now they won twenty two years in
a row. You still wonder about them. Some games you
just shake your head, but they are playing well at
the right time. And you know, maybe they go to
d C and get a Philly team in the NCAA tournament.
(12:56):
You know that league is that league is winnable. I mean,
it's not like anybody's know.
Speaker 5 (13:01):
I I guess, I hope I don't tick somebody off.
But can we assume Tamir was the best player ever
in Saint Joe history?
Speaker 4 (13:09):
Assume players right, exactly?
Speaker 5 (13:13):
But I mean they had some great players back in
the day.
Speaker 3 (13:16):
You know, I'm probably player, yeah, sure, absolutely on that team.
Speaker 4 (13:21):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (13:21):
But so when you break a guy's record, who you
know is you know, probably forever going to be the
best player there because I don't know if they're ever
going to get another National player year. I mean, that's
I think of Jamir to me.
Speaker 6 (13:33):
I know, Dick, we did that thing twenty five years
ago or an no, hell, we did it the best
ten players in Big Five And we've talked about this.
The only two players probably that we would add from
that list, we probably would be jailing and Jamiir absolutely.
Speaker 7 (13:49):
Right there.
Speaker 4 (13:50):
Yeah, ageah, for sure. I mean you could think about
a few others, but they'd be the obvious one you
have to put on the team. Uh, no doubt. I
can't remember. Was Kerry Kittles wasn't on the team already
in the ultimate leading score at Villa Over.
Speaker 3 (14:02):
I thought he was. I'm not sure we did it
run away.
Speaker 4 (14:07):
I think we did it before he had finished. So yeah,
I mean he had a hell of a career.
Speaker 7 (14:11):
At filling Over.
Speaker 6 (14:11):
Let me ask you this question because you were the
cow you saw you guys, mm hmm. And this is
an unfair question, but I'm gonna throw it at you
just because I value your opinion.
Speaker 5 (14:21):
Jamir Jayalen? Who was better?
Speaker 4 (14:25):
Well, I thought Jamiro was the better college player. Uh
but you know, obviously, obviously Jalen Bruston had the more accomplishment, right,
he won two national championships as a freshman.
Speaker 5 (14:34):
But as a player, as you saw them, you covered them.
Speaker 4 (14:36):
I thought, I thought, I don't even I don't even
think it was particularly close to college. I thought that
there was clearly a better player. He had four years.
He was the instant star. Jayalen Brunston as a freshman
was kind I want to say he was a bit player,
but he was just.
Speaker 5 (14:51):
Twenty minutes a game. Yeah, he wasn't on the games.
Speaker 7 (14:54):
Yeah right, And and Jameia.
Speaker 4 (14:56):
In addition to holding the scoring record at San Joz,
it's one of the very that also leads his school
and assists and steals. In fact, there's two in the
city to do that. Uh, it's kind of hard to
do when you think about it, assists in points or
it started to do both. But he held all three
records until our cronholl just broke the scoring record. Mike.
Mike is another guy in the city who also holds
(15:19):
the record of points, steals and assists. Would you happen
to know who that is? For?
Speaker 3 (15:23):
One school?
Speaker 7 (15:23):
Out of your head?
Speaker 4 (15:24):
One school? Wow?
Speaker 5 (15:28):
So what happened? Somebody played four years?
Speaker 4 (15:31):
That it was back in Europe where everybody played four years.
Speaker 5 (15:36):
I'm just drawing a blank.
Speaker 4 (15:38):
Michael Anderson and Trexel.
Speaker 5 (15:40):
Wow, that's a great one. Oh, he was a great player.
Speaker 3 (15:43):
That was my next Yes, Will Mike.
Speaker 6 (15:46):
Anderson was a great He was a leguately great great player.
Struck me and I didn't cover Jamir like you did.
But Jamir and I think people lose this sometimes, he
was maybe the best passer I ever saw what he
did the temple zone.
Speaker 5 (16:04):
He would do things to temple zone. He would make
that skip pass. They would just screw their their matchup
up and get and get a guy and open three.
And I just thought he had eyes in the back
of his head, that he just had that kind of
control over his passing.
Speaker 4 (16:18):
Yeah, no doubt. And look and Jami had a very
good pro careers for ten thousand points, was on the
All Star team one year. Obviously, he hasn't had the
pro career that Jalen Brunson's had because he's putting up
crazy numbers that many have. Yeah, but he still holds
He's the all time assist leader for the Orlando Magic
and play fourteen years in the league.
Speaker 8 (16:35):
And I'm gonna get this. I'm gonna get this out
of the way real quick. Last year's Yukon team's got
to be on that list, right one hundred yep.
Speaker 3 (16:44):
Yeah, I know that was for Yukon twenty eighteen. Villanova.
I'm like, yeah, let's pust this one.
Speaker 7 (16:50):
I hope.
Speaker 4 (16:50):
Yeah, not only are they on the list. They're number one,
one hundred and forty points for you. Yeah, last year
they are number one on the list of going over
eighteen team. Was that one that was just put out there? Yes,
they're They're seventh of seven on the list, one hundred
and six poss. They outscored their opponents.
Speaker 3 (17:07):
But I know, yeah, those are the two I do know.
Speaker 4 (17:11):
Yeah. Would I be rolled out there?
Speaker 5 (17:13):
Yeah, Mike, would I be wrong? Because Jay told me
this once and I caught me by surprise, and it
maybe the sixteen Villanova team because they had that they
had a couple of games where they won by a real,
real lot of points. I know they had some close
ones but they didn't quite make it or they like
in the nineties, maybe.
Speaker 4 (17:31):
Number three all time plus one twenty four.
Speaker 5 (17:33):
Yeah, Jay Wright told me that because their championship game
obviously was close.
Speaker 6 (17:39):
Yeah, the game with Kansas was close. But they killed
Oklahoma and they killed Miami. Yeah right, Yeah, because Jay told.
Speaker 4 (17:46):
Me that he killed a whole bunch.
Speaker 3 (17:49):
Yes, that's so funny. I would have definitely put eighteen
over six. Yeah, I would have too.
Speaker 4 (17:54):
Plus one twenty four. The Oklahoma game is the wildest one.
They had lost to them by what twenty three in
the right season bike and then being by forty.
Speaker 6 (18:02):
In the in the Nationals, they would have won that
game by sixty five if Jay was an idiot, you.
Speaker 3 (18:08):
Know, because he just yeah, yeah, he told me seven
minutes ago. Oh he did.
Speaker 4 (18:14):
Guys, you're good.
Speaker 1 (18:15):
Oh yeah.
Speaker 3 (18:16):
I just love that metaphor using that description of it.
It's funny.
Speaker 6 (18:20):
But yeah, it wasn't going to embarrass oklahom. Yeah they
Oklahoma coach guy and he wasn't going.
Speaker 4 (18:26):
Had already been embarrassed. And my manield Man had a
rough he had a rough night. One more, Yeah, one more.
Jamira's story. Uh, Mike, I know I've told you this story,
but guys, you'll you'll appreciate this. So Jamie Nelson played
at Chester High School and uh the high school where
I live, Pennsbury up in Bucks County, and Pennsbury had
(18:48):
their best ever team and they're playing Chester in the
District one finals at felling Over. Whatever the hell years
that one ninety nine, two thousand. So I took my
boys out there and I don't I don't know anybody
from Chester Pennsbury statement. They're running up and down a
court like four or five times, and I said, hey,
see those four guys were Chester. I said, we're good
with him. I said, see that guy, I don't know
(19:10):
who he is. We can't guard him, we got no shots.
We're gonna get it. Nelson as a.
Speaker 6 (19:15):
Junior great great Jamir Nelson to me because I was
covering Temple obviously at the time. Cheney wanted him, but
didn't start, because that's what John did, the old man,
and you know, didn't start recreeting.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
Phil was in on Jamiir so early in Jamiir's career.
Speaker 6 (19:35):
So Phil saw something and that's how he got him.
And and I don't know what would have happened if
Jamir went to Temple, but I know what happened when
you too.
Speaker 4 (19:45):
You know what too? My John told him. He says, look,
I got Lenn Grider. He's my point.
Speaker 7 (19:50):
That's true.
Speaker 4 (19:50):
You're not You're not going to walk in here and
start And Jamier said, man, I don't think so, But
what Dick, what.
Speaker 6 (19:58):
It came down in Temple system the way John played,
and he groomed a lot of great point guards.
Speaker 4 (20:03):
I mean, and yes it is.
Speaker 3 (20:04):
What do you think Jamir would have been like at Temple.
Speaker 4 (20:08):
It would have been vastly different because he wouldn't have
had the freedom to play like like he did at
Saint Jose. They wouldn't have played at the tempo they played. Look,
you had a great career. Great players are great players.
But yeah, well it's one of those what ifs. But
obviously it worked out for him and worked out for
Lynn Greer at a phenomenal career at Temple in his
own right. Another guy, by the way, they're very close
(20:28):
friends and have been for years. Lynn Greer.
Speaker 6 (20:31):
The one thing about Temple that people, I think forget
a little bit John was yet John wanted to play
a certain way, don't turn the ball, that kind of crap.
But when he had great players, Dick, he kind of
let him do. Yeah, and making peppy to a certain degree.
Speaker 7 (20:49):
Lynn.
Speaker 6 (20:50):
I mean, you know, Lynn could shoot from fifty feet
if he wanted to, and there wasn't going to be
a problem. That would have been interesting to see Jamir
and John trying to figure that out, but they figured
it out.
Speaker 4 (21:01):
Will Yeah. I mean, Saint Jose could never beat Temple
in that era. They just couldn't beat him. Jamie didn't
beat him for the first two years he was there,
but man, the last two they didn't just beat him,
they held him.
Speaker 3 (21:14):
And what happened was that Goo Gate, Goong Gate. That's
what happened.
Speaker 4 (21:20):
Janny was Janny was so upset that Saint Joseph been
beating them, and after jamir And and Delonte West left,
they were still beating him. And that's when he sent
out the Forgiven Me and my Ingram to just start
fouling people. He fouled out like five minutes, brough John
Bryant's arm. And afterwards they asked Janey, what were you doing?
(21:40):
And he said, I was sending him the goons. Only
Chaney would tell you the truth about.
Speaker 5 (21:45):
He was saying. That's what Red hour Back. Red hour
Back said, John John John.
Speaker 6 (21:50):
No, you're You're wrong, John, and not a good And again,
I swear to God, if Pat Carroll poorny and I
who was this kid you would ever want to meet?
And if he is, if his elbow had connected with
with Pat Carroll's face, which it almost did, it would
have been a riot at the lead court.
Speaker 5 (22:10):
It almost wasn't right. Actually, when Brian.
Speaker 4 (22:14):
John Carroll would have been on the court, he would
not have been He would not have been pleased with that,
and then that followed. Just to finish that story. That
following fall, we had a summit meeting Mike Cheney and
Mark Kelly so we could we were Switzerland. We were
having that makeup and it was one of the I
wish we'd have taped it, Mike because it would have
(22:35):
been priceless because I didn't say a word. Mike didn't
say word. Phil didn't say it word. Cheney did all
the talking, and by the end we all kind of
looked at each other like, what just happened?
Speaker 5 (22:46):
But you know about that Dick.
Speaker 6 (22:48):
When we left Collween's that day, we were laughing, we
were smiling, and John left with a big vat of
chicken soup courtesy of Least and Phil and Phil looked
at us and said, what just happened?
Speaker 4 (23:01):
Yeah, was just I mean, think about Phil being speechless.
Speaker 9 (23:04):
I mean that's a good Yeah, I had we had
him on the back cover.
Speaker 4 (23:10):
Yeah, we had him on the back cover of the
paper the next day. It was awesome. It was a
good thing. Yeah, there's there's some funny stories. You know.
Speaker 5 (23:16):
It's funny because the next week's going to be selection Sunday.
Speaker 3 (23:19):
Do you remember the year that me. You don't from
Phil did our bracket?
Speaker 5 (23:26):
Yeah, we went to you.
Speaker 6 (23:27):
Oh my god, was that hilarious? And we went in
there and did it, and it was we were stuck.
We were stuck at the very end. And I walked
over to the board and I just said, well if
we move this team here and this team here, and
all of a sudden, but it works, and we got
dump and and Phil to come in with me and
Dick into our office and do a sixty eight team
(23:48):
field and it and.
Speaker 3 (23:50):
We got it pretty We did pretty good, right, I mean,
we didn't do bad, no idea. Remember that was like
that had to be like twenty years.
Speaker 5 (23:58):
Ago, right, was it was?
Speaker 4 (24:01):
It was twenty and eleven. Is that it? It might
have been, you know, Mike, it might have been two
thousand and nine, but whatever, Okay, it's been a while.
Speaker 3 (24:08):
Yeah, going over, I think it was the year to
villing Over was was was deep? Yeah, I think so?
Speaker 4 (24:14):
Yeah. Yeah, there you and the Belltover team. Everybody forgets
that was Jay Wright's first final fours. They started to
run into that North Carolina team in the finals at
Ford Field when the wireless went out, and everybody blamed
me because I was the president of basketball. So it's
all year falls and yes, thanks thanks for the help.
Can I resign like now? So final final Saturday of
(24:38):
the regular season, Michigan State has closed the Big Ten
regular season. For those interested in such things, the big
game today if there can be a big game at
this point of the season. Auburn Alabama rematch in Auburn
two thirty Auburn minus eight and a half. They's coming
off their worst loss of the year. They lost to
Texas and that didn't look very good doing it. Alabama's
(25:01):
leading the country and scoring and I think they may
be leading the country and giving ups points to they
can't stop anybody. Yeah, they're averaging ninety one a game.
We'll play that game out first. John, You got any
thought some alburn Alabama?
Speaker 3 (25:15):
Yeah, Alabama's going to really rush stretch. I mean most
of the SEC is.
Speaker 2 (25:20):
But they're coming off of losses to Tennessee on the
road at home to Florida, so I think maybe a
little battered, maybe a little bruise, and they have to
go against an Auburn team that I imagine is a
little ticked off after losing to Texas. A and m
Auburn's back at home after two road games. I just
think everything leads kind of here to Auburn bouncing back
getting a win. And I mean, we just saw in
(25:41):
the previous matchup between these two, Auburn's just the better team.
So I'm gonna take Auburn here, and I'll even lay
all the seven and a half points.
Speaker 3 (25:48):
I'll lay all of that.
Speaker 7 (25:51):
Mike shirk.
Speaker 6 (25:52):
Yeah, these kind of games I have trouble with, you know,
because the games that are going to really count are
going to be in two weeks, so I never know
what teams are coming into now. I know Auburn's gonna
want to beat Alabama and vice versa because that's what
they do, and these teams are all real good. But
I just have a hard time ever picking against Auburn.
(26:12):
And it was funny the other night when they lost.
I actually did kind of like the other team a
little bit with the points. But I just think Auburn,
either either them or Duke are probably the two best teams.
I think Florida might be in that discussion. I'd liked
Florida all year, but there's so many teams you can like.
Dick Att at this point, I.
Speaker 5 (26:31):
Mean you could probably come up with ten at least
that are, like, on any given night, are really good
enough to win those kind of games. I agree with
John a little bit.
Speaker 6 (26:41):
I think I would kind of lean towards Auburn here,
but I'm not like in love with many games today.
Speaker 4 (26:47):
What are you thinking there, buddy.
Speaker 8 (26:48):
Yeah, I mean I know two weeks ago, in that
Bama Tennessee game, I was all over Bama in a
matchup like that, I was gonna take the offense.
Speaker 3 (26:56):
I was proven wrong cover though they did cover it covers.
Speaker 5 (26:59):
So what do you care?
Speaker 3 (27:00):
Yeah, I mean he did good.
Speaker 8 (27:02):
I didn't say I took them straight up or anything,
but yeah, to John's point, Bam is on the struggle
bus a little bit. They're doing, you know what they
can to lose games. They did their job against Tennessee,
holding them to seventy nine. The problem is their offense
didn't show up. And then when their offense did show up,
that defense that we know and love from Alabama didn't
(27:23):
show up as well. So right now they're in a
bad spot. And I think this is a really bad spot.
Auburn coming off their worst loss of the year. I
like Auburn and the points here.
Speaker 4 (27:33):
Yeah, I'm gonna give the points too. Alabama is just
irritating me at this point. They just look like they're
like air Bryant would not be happy with his defense.
I could say that what's going on there? About an
hour from where I am today, Marquette minus four against
Saint John's in Milwaukee. The game on paper, it's nothing
(27:55):
other than seeding for the NCAA Tournament. Saint John's quints
the biggest regular season. I think Rick Patino has clinched
the national coach of the year. Uh, you know, you
could make a case for the guy at Louisville has
done a phenomenal job, took a dead program, But yeah,
I think Rick is your coach of the year. I
was all surprised Marquette was favorite. Do I have that right?
(28:16):
And at least okay at Parks. So I still I'm
taking Saint John's because if I know anything about Rick, Yeah,
they clinched the regular season. You know, they're number one
seed in the Big East Tournament. But he's now playing
for NCAA tournament seed. He'd like to get into that
two range. I don't think they can't get the one.
(28:38):
And if they win this and then go and then
win the Big East Tournament in New York next week.
There's no way to not after it. And they just
because they have a long winning streak that they will
have dominated the league. So I'll take Saint John's. You're
giving me points in Saint John's, I will take some
John stick.
Speaker 6 (28:54):
It's funny because we you know, I know how you
feel about Rick, and I sort of feel the same
way he.
Speaker 5 (28:59):
The way to Rick is talking and acting.
Speaker 6 (29:03):
Rick expects to make a very long run in the
tour does and I'm not talking that second weekend. I
think Rick in his heart again, I don't know how
he stats up against the Alburns of the world, or
the Dukes or whatever.
Speaker 3 (29:18):
He thinks that he could be in the final four,
and maybe I'm not going to doubt him.
Speaker 4 (29:25):
Their defense is National Championship good. The question is it
comes down to two things. Can they make enough threes
and can they make free throws down the stretch because
they're a bad free throw shooting team and they've been
an inconsistent three point shooting team. Although they're getting better
at the end of the season where a lot of
teams start to fade, they're getting better. So That's really
(29:46):
what it comes down to. In the in the inevitable
close games. Can they do those two especially the free throws?
Can they make them? I will say this, whoever beats
them in the tournament, if anybody does, they're going to
have to played great. I mean they are really a
top five recent history defense. They are phenomenal on defense.
(30:08):
I think.
Speaker 6 (30:08):
So it's good the john anybody if the Johnnies get
to the final four. And I'm not saying when the
nationalton we get to the final four, how big of
a story? Like, I'm thinking back over the last twenty
thirty years of whatever the team that he took over
two years ago.
Speaker 3 (30:24):
I mean, like its Cotina.
Speaker 4 (30:28):
Right right, it's that. Look, it's the biggest story in
college hoops. I don't know if people have seen the vite,
the hour long thing they're doing off face every Tuesday night.
Speaker 5 (30:35):
I've seen a couple of them.
Speaker 4 (30:37):
Yeah, it's very cool. The Workshop down Farrell, the guys
from the Workshop are doing it. It's a really it's
a really cool show. So anybody gets a chance to
see it. We need to take a break. We'll be
back to talk about all this after we take that break.

Speaker 4 (32:26):
How was it?
Speaker 5 (32:26):
How was your dinner last night? Dick with Joe?
Speaker 4 (32:29):
Very nice Joe Game Steve Jones are played by playing
game and Joe knows him well from pat State football.
Speaker 6 (32:36):
Joe Joe, Joanna, former writer at The Inquiry who worked
with Dick and I forever.
Speaker 4 (32:42):
Yeah, looved moved to Madison. We had some cheese curds
in your honor, Mike, I said Michael of Joe with
some cheese curds. So yeah, it was. It was all good.
But yet now we met him at eight.
Speaker 6 (32:55):
He was very happy. I texted him. He was very
happy to be seeing people from Philadelphia.
Speaker 4 (33:00):
And you can tell he misses it. He's being a
good soldier out here, but it clearly misses home. But
it just it just took one for the team, came
at the Madison so there. But yeah, it's good, good
to see.
Speaker 6 (33:13):
I have a question for you that I just ran
by these guys and you were probably gonna get to
this game anyway. But Michigan is at Michigan State in
a game that means nothing in Michigan State unless they're
playing for seeding in the tournament.
Speaker 4 (33:25):
Or whatever's tomorrow.
Speaker 7 (33:27):
Yeah, that's young, Oh smart, I'm sorry.
Speaker 6 (33:29):
They're giving six and a half and they won the
game at Michigan a few weeks ago or whatever, and
I think you had it. Actually is that when Michigan
has won four straight on the road, I know they've
slipped a little, they're not Maybe is that a lot
of points for Michigan State? A rivalry game to be
You've seen both teams, so you might have a better
(33:50):
idea than I would.
Speaker 4 (33:52):
Look, I'm not a particularly fan big fan of either team. Tom.
You know he should get he should get Coach of
the Year coachs this year for the job he's done.
It's all team. It's a team of role players. I
think it tells you that the Big Ten is not
very good, that they're running away with the league. Michigan Mike,
Mike is not slipping. They are fading.
Speaker 5 (34:11):
Patkay, they have.
Speaker 4 (34:13):
They have played poorly for a couple of weeks. I
want to say they won eleven games by four points
or less. That catches up with you at some point.
They it was kind of a miracle they got to
where they did. Look, Dusty May was in play for
Coach of the Year until a couple of weeks ago.
I would like Michigan State in the game. I just
don't think Michigan's say good, and I don't think they're
playing very well. But yeah, look, the Big Ten is
(34:38):
That's another part of what's disappointing about the Penn State season.
This league was there for the getting this year, and
they just didn't. They lost all the close games. I
will tell you now. We'll talk about it in a
week or two, but I'd be surprised to see a
single Big Ten team in Sweet sixteen. I just don't
think the league's very good.
Speaker 7 (34:56):
But we'll see.
Speaker 4 (34:57):
It ain't like last year with Purdue and Zach Edy,
and that's really the only team that made it has
done anything in the Big Ten in the last five years.
So let's put it this way. Any Big Ten game
in the tournament against the Big twelve or the SEC.
Don't look at the teams, just play the other side athletically.
There will be no contest. So on the main theme
(35:19):
of the show here, we're talking about these dominant teams
since they went to the field of sixty four now
obviously sixty eight yukon twenty twenty four plus on hundred
and forty points, the most Dollanova twenty sixteen, third plus
one twenty four dollan over twenty eighteen, seventh plus one
hundred and six. Who's second?
Speaker 3 (35:42):
Any though, I was thinking.
Speaker 5 (35:46):
Of of a Kentucky team.
Speaker 6 (35:48):
I was thinking of a Kentucky team, That's what I
was thinking, And I was trying to think of which
one or two that I would I mean, obviously the
ninety six team was great, but I don't remember the
twenty twelve team I guess was was great.
Speaker 4 (36:04):
So in this in this era, the team that I
think is the best NCAA champion for the last forty
years is ninety six Entuck, Right, That's the team we
talked about with all the NBA players number two of
the lists plus one twenty nine.
Speaker 3 (36:20):
Wow, I knew it was one.
Speaker 5 (36:22):
I figured, Dick one team. I just thought of UNLV ninety.
Speaker 4 (36:28):
Number six.
Speaker 5 (36:31):
I did no, they were good and they won the
final by like thirty five over thirty. I mean, yeah, yeah,
yeah yeah.
Speaker 4 (36:38):
They beat Duke by thirty. And that was Christian Letner's
sophomore year and Bobby Hurley's freshman year, and Shryzhansky at
that point was looked at as a loser. He couldn't
win the big game. He couldn't. And of course the
next year and Mike was there, UNLB was undefeated for
the entire season, got to the national semifinals and Duke
(37:00):
them and that's when the Duke ron started.
Speaker 6 (37:02):
And John and John Wooden. That was my first That
was my first Final four game was that game. The
second game was Kansas Carolina and I remember you you
made the observation Dick john wood and got up and
walked out right with about a minute to go in
the game or something.
Speaker 4 (37:20):
He said. You know, they were thought of as like
the greatest team ever because they won the championship the
year before and dominant fashion, Larry Johnson, Stacy Auckman, that
whole crowd, and then they lost as a gigantic favorite
that the team they had beaten by thirty points the
year before. Yeah, and that was that was Latner and
Hurley and Grant. The difference was grand Hill was a
(37:41):
freshman on that scene. Grand Hill wasn't on the team
lost thirty.
Speaker 6 (37:44):
That game changed everything, though, you're right, it changed. It
changed all the perceptions of Duke. It changed everything.
Speaker 4 (37:51):
Yeah. No. Then they won the next year in ninety two,
of course, one three other times.
Speaker 6 (37:55):
And almost won in ninety Now they almost wanted ninety four,
almost one in ninety four with Arkansas.
Speaker 3 (38:02):
Yeah, so did one of.
Speaker 4 (38:03):
The championship are one of the.
Speaker 7 (38:08):
Is not no Florida team And.
Speaker 3 (38:09):
Maybe I was just looking at the Florida.
Speaker 5 (38:11):
So how many have we gotten so far? What do
we get?
Speaker 8 (38:13):
Four?
Speaker 4 (38:13):
Or five?
Speaker 9 (38:14):
You got?
Speaker 4 (38:15):
You got five out of seven? Yep, five out of seven? Wow?
Uh so yeah, you're in You're in the right right place.
I'm impressed with you guys. This has been This has
been good company.
Speaker 3 (38:27):
I don't think so highly of us.
Speaker 4 (38:29):
Yeah. Uh, we were doing Marquette John's a minute ago.
I took Saint John's. Anybody anybody else got thoughts on
Saint John's getting four? Now again the game means something
for the Big East standing but mean something.
Speaker 2 (38:42):
Yeah, I'm having such a tough time with this number
because it is moving in Marquette's direction. I imagine they're
going to be a that team because they're at home,
the spot seems good. They're coming off of lost the Yukon,
so everything's good and right for Marquette.
Speaker 3 (38:54):
Marquette has from last three week. Don't think Marquette's that good.
Speaker 2 (38:58):
Yeah, I really don't think any team in the Big
East other than Saint John's is that good.
Speaker 3 (39:02):
You know, I'm not a big fan of Creighton or
My theory is.
Speaker 6 (39:05):
I hate betting against Rick Patino. So if I don't
like the Saint John's side of the game, I just
don't bet the game.
Speaker 3 (39:11):
Yeah, uh, I will. I will actually go with Dick here.
Speaker 2 (39:15):
I'll go Saint John's mostly because I get why Marquette
is getting the kind of money and the line is
moving the way it is.
Speaker 6 (39:22):
I just don't believe he's a game. Rick might just
want to stick it to him, right, Dick like say, yeah, yeah, it.
Speaker 8 (39:31):
Was a combination of that, because I'm gonna side with
with Dick and Jansen here. It's Rick Pattino probably not
wanting to, you know, take his foot off the gas.
Speaker 3 (39:38):
Pedal.
Speaker 8 (39:39):
And also, I just again, I don't think Marquette is
good enough to play into this spread. I don't think
they're good enough. So yeah, a combination of that, I'm
gonna take something.
Speaker 5 (39:48):
Are you a believer, Dick, because I've heard it argued
both ways that a good team, like like Saint John's
or like a dude or like Auburn walls this week,
that maybe it's better to lose a game late, like
like I'd say Saint John's wins this game and wins
the tournament, they're going to go into the NCAA is
probably on a pretty good winning streak. Or do you
subscribe to that theory that or is that not matter?
Speaker 4 (40:11):
Like, yeah, yeah, I don't think it matters. I would
say this, if your team is like hurt, you got injuries,
your rotation has got a problem, then maybe you don't
mind losing, certainly early in the conference tournament to get
rested for the NCAA when you're already d receiving locked up.
But yeah, generally, just go win games. Yeah, I mean
Rick's best teams, that ninety sixth Kentucky team, which is
(40:33):
the best team he ever coached, they actually lost their
conference tournament, the championship game in Mississippi State, which which
got him nuts in the tournament, and it just annihilated everybody.
Is that.
Speaker 6 (40:45):
Ninety seventeen had won? Anderson doesn't get hurt. He said,
whatever would that team have been?
Speaker 5 (40:52):
Scovers? The ninety six team still better.
Speaker 4 (40:54):
No, ninety six team is better, Mike. They had guys
on that team that were red shirting that played the.
Speaker 5 (41:01):
Didn't they have like eleven guys or something that played
in the NBA on.
Speaker 4 (41:04):
That team, right, Yeah, we did that. We did that
a couple weeks. I think I said eleven. I think
it was the end up a nine. But whatever, Yeah,
it's just absurd. So we're Saint John's marquette. I thought
it was better in November and December than they are.
Speaker 5 (41:17):
Agree too.
Speaker 4 (41:19):
We'll see they play those hard guard minutes where they're
out pressing the Shaka smart deal and all that. So
six point thirty tonight, Duke minus ten and a half
at North Carolina. They are holding teams to thirty eight percent.
This is the best Duke defense I've seen it in
like decades. They are outscoring teams by twenty two points
(41:40):
a game, which is number one in the country. North
Carolina is playing better, but they've beaten a lot of
bad teams, and in THEACC there are a lot of
bad teams. Once you get passed Duke, Clemson and Louisville,
everybody kind of stinks. John, you got a thought on
Carolina getting ten and a half at home in a
game they need to win for their nca risk.
Speaker 2 (42:02):
I mean, these games are always going to be closed
for the most part, uh, And that rivalry speaks for itself.
Speaker 5 (42:09):
The first one wasn't I don't think.
Speaker 3 (42:10):
I don't think the second one is going to.
Speaker 2 (42:12):
I think this is gonna be a rounde Duke to
me is I love them to win the NCAA tournament.
They have a great team along with the best player
in the country. How many times that has happened, and
so many times it comes together the way it does
now with Duke, Who's twenty seven to three, eighteen to
one in the ACC. You just mentioned Dick two, Like,
North Carolina's record doesn't look that bad. But the most
part of it is I think the ACC is just awful.
(42:33):
I think the AC awful. Awful conference. I don't even
know if I put Louisville up that much Louisville is good,
so I can't really say too much. Their number fourteen,
the country called that. Really, to me, it's just Clemson Duke,
who are like, by far the two best teams in
that conference.
Speaker 3 (42:46):
So I think we're gonna see that gap today. I
like Duke big. They're getting ten and a half. I
don't know even that's no, there's.
Speaker 6 (42:53):
No reason to take North Carolina, which is why I'm
going to take North Carolina.
Speaker 3 (42:58):
Duke is killing people.
Speaker 4 (43:01):
Now.
Speaker 6 (43:01):
I know North Carolina this game, they're right now, they're
the first team out most of the bracketology whatever, so
this game would probably put them in the tournament if.
Speaker 3 (43:10):
They were to beat you.
Speaker 5 (43:12):
This puts them in.
Speaker 8 (43:12):
He's killing people too. It's just the problem is they're
not playing anything.
Speaker 6 (43:15):
But if Duke goes to Carolina and wins this game
by like fifteen to twenty, then to me, they should
be the favorite over Auburn going in.
Speaker 5 (43:23):
And I think Auburn's great, and I love Florida too, but.
Speaker 6 (43:27):
This Duke team, I mean, Deck, you've seen Duke really
hasn't been Duke in a while, right, like like he
thought is right.
Speaker 4 (43:35):
They've always been good, but they're really good. And obviously
their freshman class is ridiculous. They have some upper classmen
that are very good. Again, I don't remember them playing
defense at this level for quite a while. They did
beat Auburn, but albeit like months ago at Cameron, So
I don't know what that means.
Speaker 3 (43:53):
What is with the random Illinois game in February?
Speaker 4 (43:57):
That's what I always does that Yet he generally has
a Madison Square Garden game at that time of the
year against some allegedly big time opponent. I mean they
turned out to be a fraud in that particular game.
Speaker 3 (44:13):
What if people win that game by like fifty sixty seven?
Speaker 4 (44:17):
Yeah, I mean, really, what's just happened here?
Speaker 7 (44:20):
Hey?
Speaker 4 (44:20):
Did that?
Speaker 3 (44:20):
Doesn't happen?
Speaker 4 (44:21):
That's that's the same that's the same Illinois squad. Remember
remember the last year they played Yukon and the Eliti,
and I said to you guys, at some point during
this game, Yukon's going to go on a run. I
didn't think it was gonna be thirty to nothing, but
that's what it was.
Speaker 6 (44:35):
That's right, Agad. So it's been ten years since Duke's
last title. I think if my memory I'm just going
through it in my head.
Speaker 5 (44:43):
Here that's the longest winless championships streak for Dukes since
they started, since they won ninety one.
Speaker 4 (44:52):
Yeah, that's right. I mean they won in ninety one
and ninety two, and then they won again and was
two thousand one.
Speaker 3 (45:00):
And when they beat Butler and what ten ten and
then fifteen.
Speaker 4 (45:04):
And then they won in fifteen. Yeah, with your man
jellel Ochefort being the star player.
Speaker 6 (45:10):
The best call, one of your best calls you had
several was in ninety nine when Yukon played the Duchies
and everybody liked the Dookies dicks like, nah, you guys
are going to win out right, and it was. They
had that car who was their point guard.
Speaker 4 (45:26):
And start their star player was Rip Hamilton from Costal
High School.
Speaker 3 (45:31):
I liked the point.
Speaker 4 (45:33):
Yeah, Duke was looked at as like one of the
great teams in history, said Elton Brand and uh Shane
Battier was a young player took stick of their guard
line Trajan Langdon and I wrote the day of the
championship game, guys, you love this. I was just a
wild man back then. I would say that's much care.
I said, they're not even remotely close to the ninety
(45:54):
one and ninety two Dukes, I said, not even close.
Grand Hill's better than anybody else, Dave Laterner's better than
anybody else. Bobby Early is better than by this steak.
Don't tell me this is the greatest even history. And oh,
by the way, Yukon lost twice the entire year in
one of the great biggists ever that Yukon was getting
nine and a half. Not that I would ever gamble
(46:15):
in the game. I was covering, but but.
Speaker 5 (46:19):
You told everybody else to Yeah, I could.
Speaker 4 (46:23):
Not have been any more difetitive. Forget to forget the
points spread. Yukon's winning the game.
Speaker 3 (46:28):
You know what they make.
Speaker 6 (46:30):
And the Duke still counts their two thousand and two
title when first Ludolfson got ripped off and then Marylin
got ripped off, Right, do I have that correct.
Speaker 4 (46:41):
Year? It was? It was Maryland and Sammis and Arizona
championship yet but.
Speaker 7 (46:45):
Yeah, that call, right, coach k oh Man.
Speaker 4 (46:52):
Their their last title was against Wisconsin at twenty fifteen
in Indianapolis, and that was hilarious because both Yeah, Frank Keminski,
you know, Bo Ryan was a ref bader from way back.
I mean, he was one of the best but he
was not in Krzyzewsky's league as a ref bader. And
at halftime they came back to second half, and I
(47:13):
mean Duke got every.
Speaker 6 (47:14):
Call and they got them all was out the year
that they beat Kentucky in the semis when Kentucky was
on beating thirty eight.
Speaker 4 (47:23):
At Kentucky, cal Perry was never the same after that
game in Kentucky. Now you got remotely close to that level. Yeah,
they were going for forty and oh and and a
place is like one of the great teams in history,
got beat. All right, I'll throw it. I'll throw at
number four to everybody. We mentioned this team a little earlier,
(47:44):
two thousand and nine, Ford Field, Tyler Hansborough.
Speaker 3 (47:48):
And you Carolina. I was just two thousand and nine, damn.
Speaker 4 (47:53):
Plus one, number four plus one twenty one. Uh. He
filling over Mike by like what fifteen or so in
the semi five?
Speaker 6 (48:02):
Right, Yeah, but let's remember that with about because I
had a good I had to go to Augustus so
Villanova won the game.
Speaker 5 (48:09):
I wasn't going to Augustina till or whenever.
Speaker 6 (48:12):
With with about nine minutes to go, about nine, ye,
Villanova's down five. Uh, the guy who was the great
wing cut Downte Cunningham has the ball in the wing,
takes a.
Speaker 5 (48:25):
Three, it's in, it goes in the rimy. They were
down four.
Speaker 6 (48:31):
There was going to be a one point game, circles out,
Carolina comes down, gets a three point playday and the
game was And like you said, Villanova, but Villanova played
them were as good as probably anybody played.
Speaker 3 (48:42):
Who they who? They beat the title game Carolina damn.
Speaker 4 (48:46):
Michigan Michigan State in Detroit and ran them out of
the gym.
Speaker 3 (48:51):
And them later that.
Speaker 4 (48:52):
Year in the same venue, they played a game in
ford Field. That was.
Speaker 8 (49:00):
I was gonna say that was that was Hansboro, ty
Lawson and Wayne Allens really good.
Speaker 4 (49:05):
That's right, yep, another Philly guy.
Speaker 2 (49:08):
Is that the game that finally broke Jay and like,
I have to change something because he lost to Florida
who had Noah and then Tyler Hansbrough.
Speaker 5 (49:15):
He just clear decided that and he talked about it.
Speaker 6 (49:19):
They need to get bigger because they lost the Kansas
the year before they did they lost to Florida and
O six all the teams they lost.
Speaker 5 (49:27):
Who was side?
Speaker 6 (49:28):
So we went out and tried to recoup big guys,
and it didn't work because he so he went back
and just said, screw this, We're gonna get guards, and.
Speaker 7 (49:35):
He turned into it worked out pretty well.
Speaker 6 (49:38):
Jay was ahead of the game, right Dick. I mean
he he realized that the game is played on the perimeter, right, am, I.
Speaker 4 (49:43):
Ronge and look, Jay modeled and they'll tell you this.
He modeled his Dollova teams after the two thousand and three,
two thousand and four Saint jose He saw that you
could you could win Saint Joseph play often played four
and sometimes five guards. And then Jay said, we're never
gonna ge have these great big guys, so what are
we doing? Uh So then they that's that's how they
(50:04):
started winning.
Speaker 3 (50:05):
Ja Jay kind of went like he went a little
bit size, but it was like stretches.
Speaker 5 (50:09):
Two thousand and six team had four guards, right, it
was Nardi Lowry and the two.
Speaker 7 (50:18):
It was Rady four.
Speaker 4 (50:20):
Yep, yep, that's exact.
Speaker 3 (50:22):
Danny Green was on that team.
Speaker 4 (50:24):
That Andy Green was on that Carolina team. No, that
was I mean, they were they were really good. I
mean they were they were very good. Yes, they rolled everybody.
So we got we got one level of the second half.
Speaker 3 (50:36):
We didn't do big.
Speaker 5 (50:37):
We got like we got like four or five.
Speaker 8 (50:39):
We got a whole another hour North Carolina because that
is what I say, I probably should have been able
to get So you.
Speaker 3 (50:45):
Guys don't remember UNLV, so that wasn't fair to Yeah,
that one I was. I do North Carolina, I do right,
that team was awful.
Speaker 8 (50:51):
I looked at the Jordan team, I looked at the
twenty seventeen team, and I didn't look which.
Speaker 6 (50:56):
Amazing to meet, Dick, is that there's seven teams that
have done that. Yeah, that's it's almost won every three
and a half years.
Speaker 7 (51:04):
It's a number.
Speaker 4 (51:06):
Yeah, it's hard to I mean, typically you're supposed to
be playing other good teams, and generally you will later
in the tournament. And these teams just crossed everybody. You
know what, I didn't look up like the great U
c l A teams, like the Walton they used they
used to be teams by thirty, but they didn't play
six games, especially not sure their numbers are ridiculous, exactly,
(51:27):
you didn't have to play in the.
Speaker 5 (51:29):
First round by like those years with al Cinder, I
don't even know. Still it was they, I mean it
wasn't even five people.
Speaker 7 (51:39):
It really wasn't murdered people.
Speaker 4 (51:41):
Here's another game today, Adventures. Mike, you mentioned that earlier, Uh,
Florida's probably looked at as the second best team in
the SEC, right behind Auburn. But man, they are playing
great minus twelve.
Speaker 3 (51:54):
They're really good.
Speaker 4 (51:55):
This Yeah, the given twelve in Gamesville. It's six o'clock game, John,
one of your thoughts on the Gators as we head
to the tournament. They've overachieved. Nobody saw this common. But
they're going to be a number one seed.
Speaker 3 (52:09):
Yeah, it looks like they're going to.
Speaker 2 (52:10):
And you know, this is at least a good opportunity
for them too, because Ole Miss is having a solid
season like most teams in the SEC. So it's another
chance for like a really good quality win towards the
end of the season, getting into the tournament, and then
they get a few wins in the tournament. You know
that obviously, Like Florida is in contention for a number
one seed here or just yeah, one of the one seeds,
and I think they're in a good spot to do it.
(52:32):
So all Miss has played really well. A couple of
wins against Tennessee and Oklahoma, Oklahoma's that great, but Tennessee
is really good. So all miss coming off of a
really good win after a tough stretch. But Florida just
seems like a machine right now. And I just don't
see it stopping a really good win against Alabama in
their last game.
Speaker 3 (52:49):
I think Florida is just just too good for a
senior game. Yeah, senior night too. See.
Speaker 2 (52:56):
I just think Florida is is a bit overwhelming. In
the same way that we talk about Auburn. I think
we can also talk about Florida in these games starting,
you know as well.
Speaker 4 (53:04):
So you guys all love this. Yeah, Florida's star guard
is Gett named Walter Clayton. Do you know who he
played for in his previously at his previous school.
Speaker 5 (53:14):
It's gonna be like, yes, I beout Rick.
Speaker 4 (53:17):
Patino at Iona, Wow, their star player. Think if he
had gone to Saint John's just what they.
Speaker 3 (53:23):
Don't they have some on their team that would be
one of the best teams.
Speaker 6 (53:26):
I think Florida key being teams had somebody from that
f a U's team from two years ago that made
the Final four?
Speaker 4 (53:33):
Right that that sounds right, Mike, Yeah, I don't. I
can't say that for sure. That there's a couple of
those players that are in different high major programs, including
one is it Michigan with with Dusty May their center
blade like Golden Us their star player at Michigan along
with along with Kyle's favorite player, jam And I know
(53:53):
Kyle mos did. Uh Mike, you're are you? Are you
going to pick the Gators to win it all? Mike?
Speaker 3 (54:00):
I think you know, I haven't.
Speaker 6 (54:02):
I want to see I want to see brackets and
I want to see you know whatever. But I mean, look,
I'm not saying anything. Anybody else isn't going to say.
The teams that look Auburn. I liked Auburn in November
before I thought they were going to be this good. Uh,
Duke is better than I thought they were going to be.
I thought they were gonna be really good. And Cooper
Flag is obviously amazing. But Florida just strikes me. And
(54:26):
they beat I think two number one teams on the
road this year if I'm not mistaken.
Speaker 5 (54:31):
But there's other teams.
Speaker 6 (54:32):
I mean, you know, you can look at Tennessee, but
Tennessee just doesn't score enough. Houston, you I love you,
I always. So there's about four or five different ways
I could go.
Speaker 5 (54:42):
But Florida is just the team to me that because
Auburn's in that league, Auburn's going to get all the whatever.
Speaker 6 (54:48):
It's just the way that, even if Florida's the number
one seed. But man, the Gators just I think this
tournament this year, Dick has the possibility of being one
of the better tournaments we've seen in a while.
Speaker 5 (55:00):
Yukon's kind of taking the fun out of it the
last two years. You know, they really have, because they've
just been Yukon. And you told us last year before
the tournament, Hey, guys, it is he going to be? Yeah,
it's over. Just just forget about it. This year, you
could probably make a case for five, six, seven, eight
teams and at least can get to the final four.
Speaker 6 (55:21):
Maybe not win the whole thing, but at least you
get there. And I think that makes it fun for
the betters, and I think it makes it fun for fans.
Speaker 4 (55:30):
That would I would agree. Well, I love obviously more
clarity this time. Next week will be a day before
selection Sunday, and I will be also road and back
in beautiful Bensdale. And that's the parts Casino sportsbook. But Meanwhile,
we are two an hour of two. You are listening.

(56:11):
Gambling problem one eight hundred gambler to Criority along with
Mike Current, John Jansen, Kyle not a Maker. We are
through an hour. We got one to go. We got
Mike on the Arnold Palmer PGA Tour event. When we
get back, we also have some six yers talk. We
have to do it. Maybe we can get a ran
out of Mic on something. I'm a little disappointed if
(56:31):
we can't get that. We got more college hoops. I
specifically want to talk about Saint Joe's and what their
chances are. The Lantington Tournament next week is in Washington,
d C. Be An emotional finale today at a sal
Brand Duffy's last game as a head coach at his
alma mater, and I don't think he's going to retire
at this point. I think he actually probably is done.
(56:52):
But we'll be back to talk about all that and
more are right after this.
Speaker 1 (56:56):
Number one on your car radio preset hand the new
and improved iHeartRadio app W YES and w D two

Speaker 2 (57:48):
The only app I recommend must be twenty one and
in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio or a Michigan gambling
problem call one eight hundred. Gambler Dick to already joining
us on the phone as he is live from Madison, Wisconsin,
but here men saling myself, John Jansen with Kyle Nunnermaker
and right now to give us some what is it
Arnie Palmy picks.
Speaker 3 (58:06):
Arnold Palmer, Arnold Arnie Palmy, the Arnie Palmy.
Speaker 6 (58:10):
I've got Before I do that, I'm gonna take one
minute here because we were talking about Fran Duff before
the break, and we talked about him. Lest say, Dick,
here's what you need to know about Fran. And we
have tried to espouse us. There's an gonna get I'll wait,
I'll wait for you. Then yeah, go ahead, Gough Arnold
(58:31):
Palmer uh down. And apparently our man Kyle here has
Lowry and my one and done. Though Lowry's Lowry's leading,
he's eight on.
Speaker 5 (58:42):
Usually Wyndham Clark is next, six under, Corey Connors more
Cow was six under.
Speaker 6 (58:49):
It's actually a pretty good leader board. You got McIlroy's four,
Louis is one tied with Chefer. The amazing part to
me is Scheffler's like tied for eighteen. He's seven back
and he's still like the fifth favorite. He stinks, you know,
he's he's.
Speaker 3 (59:03):
Ten to one.
Speaker 6 (59:04):
I can't bet that. I'm sorry. I love Scottie. I'm
gonna do something I don't usually do because I usually
look for longer shots. Clark almost won this last year.
He finished second to Scheffler, which is no disgrace. And
he's seven fifty to one, I mean seven seven point
seven and a half to one.
Speaker 5 (59:22):
I'm gonna take a shot on him. He's only two back.
Speaker 6 (59:26):
You could you could make you can make a case
for like six or seven guys up there, and I'm
gonna take a shot with Wyndam Clark at six.
Speaker 5 (59:34):
I don't really have a long shot for you. I
was trying to Jason day shot like like he was
the one. He was the one I was looking. He
was incredible. Well, he's twenty to one, twenty to one.
He played so well yesterday. Though sometimes it's hard for
those guys too. But if you want to take a
long shot, I'll go with Kyle that.
Speaker 6 (59:51):
I'm gonna root for his guy Lowry anyway, but I'm
gonna take Wyndam Clark at seventy half.
Speaker 3 (59:56):
Thanks, you don't like Mike.
Speaker 4 (59:57):
What about our guy? Yeah? What's the probably? So? I
got Beethoven at.
Speaker 8 (01:00:01):
Minus one Beethoven twenty five, but I had him a
few weeks ago when he won, and I just know
I don't go too much.
Speaker 4 (01:00:10):
On lou understood tober.
Speaker 3 (01:00:15):
Ober Oberg will win.
Speaker 6 (01:00:18):
I shouldn't say that he's going to win majors now now,
whether it's this year, he's still young, he has He's
only played in like four of them. He's going to
be I think five or six or seven years down
the road. I think we're going to be talking about
him as one of the.
Speaker 8 (01:00:31):
First couple episodes of Full Swing on Netflix, and he
was highlighted twenty two first or second episode. Yeah, he
looked like a kid, but he seems like a great
head on his shoulder. And you know, well, he played
in the Ryder Cup. To he'll be in the right
the Ryder Cup, by the way, and he was fantastic.
Justin is inside. The Ryder Cup is in beth Page
Park this year.
Speaker 3 (01:00:50):
It will be nuts.
Speaker 5 (01:00:52):
New York fans go nuts for that crap. Adberg played
in his first Ryder Cup two years ago before he'd
even played in That's right, I'll say Adberg, but you're right.
Speaker 6 (01:01:02):
He played in a Ryder Cup before he played in
a major. He will probably be one of the best.
They're trying to get the guys like John Rohn. They're
trying to actually make it so that the live guys
can play in the Ryder Cup. But Oberg will be
one of the better players for Europe. I can't guarantee
you that he's.
Speaker 3 (01:01:21):
A stunt already.
Speaker 4 (01:01:23):
All right, if there's the final teams before I forget it.
I cannot believe you guys did not get this.
Speaker 7 (01:01:30):
Oh got it?
Speaker 4 (01:01:30):
This is the most How about Yukon twenty twenty for it?
Speaker 6 (01:01:34):
You know two years ago, Dick, it was funny when
we said that. I was thinking about that because they
won every game by at least ten I know that.
Speaker 8 (01:01:42):
Yeah, So you know, I looked it up and I
didn't do the math in my head, and when I
was looking at the scores, I just kind of wrote
it over all, Wow, yeah, you seated.
Speaker 4 (01:01:50):
They're number five at plus one twenty. So in two years,
twelve games, they've outscored their opparents by two hundred and
six points and they have covered the spread in all twelve.
Just think if you had that parlay going, just start
rolling with n There will never there will never be
(01:02:12):
anything like that again in the history of the sports.
Speaker 5 (01:02:14):
It's just completely what you're telling us, is it in
the last eight years? I get we're rolling over with
sixteen the last nine years. Yeah, it's been a long time,
and you know.
Speaker 4 (01:02:25):
Why, because there's very few good college players left. They're
all in the NBA. The top guys are gone. So
if you can actually keep a team together like Jay
Wright did with a lot of upperclassmen, like Yukon did,
although Yukon lost three good guys and brought brought more
guys in like Tam Spencer last year, it's it's very
it's easier to blow out teams in this era. Now
(01:02:48):
this is now a new era with a transfer port
on all this stuff. I don't know how that's going
to play out, but I think that's the answer. Back
in the day they were when everybody stayed for four years,
you weren't blowing everybody out because there were too many,
too many good players. Just wasn't gonna happen.
Speaker 5 (01:03:02):
Yeah, that's what made that youth of the UNLV team
in ninety That's what made them.
Speaker 4 (01:03:06):
So that question unreal. They're the they're the one furthest
from today. So we'll go over it again. Yukon twenty
twenty four, Number one Kentucky ninety six, billing Over twenty sixteen,
UNC two thousand and nine, Yukon twenty twenty three, UNLB
nineteen ninety and then Villanova twenty eighteen. Seventeens in the
(01:03:27):
forty year history of the sixty four team expanded in
that sixty eighteen tournament that have won their NCAA games
by more than one hundred combined.
Speaker 5 (01:03:36):
Dick, Can I assume that the Kentucky twenty twelve team
maybe came close?
Speaker 4 (01:03:42):
Yeah? I mean their final game was the louisvo The
two games in the final four were relatively closed Louisville
and then and then they were holding on against Kansas.
They had the game won with Anthony Davis and then
we're trying to blow it and people were bringing up
Memphis two thousand and eight, and I had nicety written
again and I was not didn't want to have to
go through that again.
Speaker 8 (01:04:03):
Yeah, but that's the thing with the Yukon team two
years ago. They didn't have forty or fifty point wins
in the first round. They were just consistent, like mid
twenty five thirty.
Speaker 4 (01:04:15):
Yeah, every game was like that.
Speaker 3 (01:04:16):
We will never see a team. You'll never see a
team two years in a row.
Speaker 6 (01:04:21):
I'm going to guess, Matt, if we were having this
conversation fifty years from now, they won every game by
double digits.
Speaker 4 (01:04:27):
Insane, complete insanity. Again, I'd have to go back and
look at the UCLA teams. I don't even think they
did that. It's just ridiculous. So at two thirty today
at LaSalle, Saint Joe's finishing off a really good, vital
part of their season, giving eleven and a half. But
that really is not the story. It will be Frand
Dumpty's final game. Mike, I know you want to attribute
(01:04:48):
to dovesa fire away.
Speaker 6 (01:04:49):
Yeah, well no, there's a story in the Inquiry was
about two or three days ago, written by Alex Coffee.
She did a just a tremendous job writing the story,
and there's a there's a young man who's paralyzed below
his hips. He was born with the condition wherever he
plays wheelchair basketball and basically the headline says he has
become a little bro to LaSalle men's basketball team. And
(01:05:11):
this is all dumb, right, I Mean, Dunfl won't take
the credit, but this is dumb. And he's got this
quote here and they've They've just taken this kid under
his wing and they go and they He says, as
much as he's benefited from it, there's no question who
has benefited more, said coach Fran Dumphy. And that is
Fran Dumphy in a nutshell. It's always he does things
(01:05:32):
like this all the time. And I'm not saying the
other guys don't. Phil did it, Jay does it. All
the guys do it, That's what they do. But Fran
is just a special, special human being.
Speaker 4 (01:05:47):
Right, He's the last of the group. Look, we've got
a number of not replaceable coaches at John Chaney being
one when he left Temple, obviously, Phil Martelly, Jay right,
and Fran is the last of the crew and speedy
for sure. But yeah, I mean absolutely the last of
the crew and he will be missed. But what a
(01:06:09):
run he had. And hopefully he can play well against
the Hawks today and go down in DC hopefully win
some games for his alma mater. But I didn't want
to talk about the Saint Joe's John, I know you
follow this. I mean, they have talent. They are clearly
the most talented team in the city, have been for
two years now. They won the Big Five Championship tiears
(01:06:30):
in a row, the new tournament down at the Wells Fargo.
But they've been inconsistent. They have games where you get
what just happened, But right now they're about as consistent
as they have been here down the stretch. Are you
a believer that they can find a way to go
to DC and win the requisent amount of games that
actually win the eight ten?
Speaker 2 (01:06:48):
To be honest, I kind of wasn't and it only
was mostly not their fault. Just VCU looked that good,
but they just lost the Dayton kind of went a
little bit of a crack to one teams. Yeah, it
looks like what so v c U I think has
mostly been in the bubble, but that lost to Dayton hurts. Uh,
So I think it is starting to become maybe a
(01:07:08):
one big league.
Speaker 3 (01:07:10):
So yeah, St. Jose is right in it. Absolutely, they're
getting hot at the right time.
Speaker 4 (01:07:14):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:07:14):
They have the right kind of offense for it. And
I think the conference, I still think it's vc US
to lose.
Speaker 3 (01:07:20):
This is there.
Speaker 2 (01:07:20):
They're the best team in the conference by far in
my opinion, but it's maybe not as big of a
gap as I initially thought.
Speaker 4 (01:07:26):
Where's the tournament, and that will be kind of that
will be kind of a home game for VCU. They
have the best day and Dayton have the best fan
base in the league.
Speaker 10 (01:07:35):
And Richmond obviously is not terribly far from Yeah, Richmond's
very good. Now that Richmond is terrible, but VC is
really good and yeah, I think the right there. Yeah,
it'd be interesting to see how they do it.
Speaker 4 (01:07:51):
Look, their talented, there's no doubt that they have talent. Unquestionably,
they're they're talented. Uh So to see if the Hawks
can finally break through it Billy Lang who went well,
ye're seven, Mike, I'm kind of losing track.
Speaker 3 (01:08:05):
Six or sex.
Speaker 6 (01:08:06):
I think it might be six, but I'm okay. Phil Well,
Phil left after Uh god, I'm losing track now. She's eighteen,
twenty twenty eighteen.
Speaker 4 (01:08:16):
After the twenty eighteen season.
Speaker 5 (01:08:18):
I think when were those players coming in that real
good classy.
Speaker 4 (01:08:21):
Ye it was after it was after the twenty nineteen season.
I think witch Field's last year. I believe that. I
believe that's right. I'm not I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:08:30):
Yeah, six years. I think it's billy sixth year.
Speaker 4 (01:08:34):
So the first four were a nightmare, but little By
little they got, they got better. In the last two years,
they've been good again, terribly inconsistent, but maybe they finally
figured it out, so that would be a storyline to watch.
They're the only team to me of any of the
city teams that has any shot. I mean, Pen's not
going to make the IVY League tournament Drexel. As Drexel
started playing the CIA, yet, I don't even I should
(01:08:56):
know that.
Speaker 3 (01:08:56):
I think.
Speaker 6 (01:08:58):
I think they've actually been playing better and I think
they have a snowball's chance in that conference. I have
to again, they're not they're like the fourth best team,
maybe third or fourth best team.
Speaker 4 (01:09:10):
I think, yeah, I think they're further down than that,
but whatever. That's that's never an easy, easy league to win.
But yeah, I think St.
Speaker 3 (01:09:18):
Jose is probably the best chancey Drexel.
Speaker 8 (01:09:20):
Second Round action starts today, Drexel taking on Elon.
Speaker 5 (01:09:24):
So they're not in that league.
Speaker 4 (01:09:27):
Well, I mean they wanted in a similar position a
couple of years ago. That's right now. Look they're there.
Starting center is the starting center for Kentucky this year.
That's a problem.
Speaker 6 (01:09:37):
That's that's that's what happens when the standings are Drexel
is the third seed.
Speaker 4 (01:09:43):
How they are? Okay, well, I'm wrong.
Speaker 6 (01:09:44):
You twelve and five in the conference, so I don't know.
I mean again, I don't know anything about n C
A and t or Charleston. But I'm going to guess
Drexell has a snowball chance instant to maybe win Island.
Speaker 3 (01:10:02):
Who knows?
Speaker 5 (01:10:03):
Where's it?
Speaker 3 (01:10:04):
Where's that DC?
Speaker 5 (01:10:06):
It says here they're they're twelve and five in the conference.
I'm looking at them.
Speaker 4 (01:10:13):
They're nine and nine and nine in the conference. We're
not looking at win.
Speaker 5 (01:10:18):
Uh No, I just think I got a bed whatever. Yeah,
I'm so. I apologize.
Speaker 4 (01:10:23):
That's all right. They're seventeen and fourteen, nine and nine.
Speaker 3 (01:10:26):
I'm sorry, I'm sorry.
Speaker 4 (01:10:28):
That's all right. How comes the team to beat? Nelson's
got the player of the year. They're sixteen and two
U n c WS fourteen and four, Charleston thirteen and five.
Speaker 5 (01:10:36):
Okay, my bid.
Speaker 4 (01:10:38):
Yeah, they're right in the middle of attacks. So we'll
say they play Elon today, John.
Speaker 3 (01:10:43):
Yes, they're playing Elon, yep.
Speaker 4 (01:10:45):
Okay, this is just the Dragons.
Speaker 6 (01:10:50):
This will be the third it seems. I just I'm
rooting for Saint Joe's. I'm rooting for somebody. I just
want to see a local team in the tournament.
Speaker 5 (01:10:59):
It's just a question, Dick.
Speaker 3 (01:11:01):
There were years where we had three right when we
were figuring out where.
Speaker 4 (01:11:04):
The hell we were going, right, absolutely, oh yeah, no question. Yeah,
it's crazy. I don't get it. But it's just as
we did that discussion last week. A couple of NBA
thoughts a big game tonight. Hard to believe this is
a big game, but it is Boston minus seven and
a half over the all of a sudden, hot Luca Lakers.
(01:11:25):
Is anybody buying the Lakers? Uh?
Speaker 3 (01:11:28):
I bought it immediately.
Speaker 4 (01:11:30):
This is what this is.
Speaker 5 (01:11:31):
This is my take on the Lakers. First of all,
in the last.
Speaker 7 (01:11:36):
What else go ahead?
Speaker 8 (01:11:38):
Co Yeah, Me and Mike Kern were actually talking about
this before the show. They haven't even got their full
chemistry in yet, Luca and Lebron and and the rest
of the team, and they just look fantastic.
Speaker 3 (01:11:53):
So once they really find their groove.
Speaker 8 (01:11:55):
I know they're winners of eight straight, but you know
they're still trying to figure everything out and be the
best that they can. With you know, both players being
you know, dominant ball handlers running the offense. I think
it can only go up from here, if that's even possible,
because again they've won eight in a row. Look out
because they're the number two seed, tied with Denver.
Speaker 3 (01:12:18):
I don't.
Speaker 8 (01:12:19):
I don't know why you wouldn't buy him to the
Lakers right now. And by the way, Lebron looks ten
years younger with Luco on the court. With the NBA,
the NBA West has been is fascinating to me. It's
been rejuded Seth Curry, Seth Curry, Steph Curry and Lebron
have been rejuvenated by Jimmy Butler and Luca I don't
(01:12:40):
think the Warriors are as good as the Lakers.
Speaker 5 (01:12:42):
Dick in the last I think it's a month and
a half. They're playing the best defense of anybody in
the NBA.
Speaker 3 (01:12:49):
The coach is doing. They've beaten They're eighteen and three
in their last twenty one.
Speaker 6 (01:12:57):
They've won ten straight games over teams with five hundred
or better records. Now they've got a stretch coming up
in the next eight days, six games of two back
to backs and obviously tonight at Boston.
Speaker 3 (01:13:12):
I'm not bad. I mean, can they win the title?
I don't. I still think the.
Speaker 6 (01:13:16):
OKAC in Cleveland all year long have been the best
two teams and they've now but Cleveland's got to beat Boston. Okay,
c He's got to deal with Denver or whatever they
got to deal with. But I'm telling you, I thought
this was like a mirage.
Speaker 3 (01:13:30):
I really did.
Speaker 6 (01:13:30):
I'm like, you know, whatever, something has happened out there,
and it is just amazing to watch Lebron James at
forty years old.
Speaker 3 (01:13:40):
Through what he's doing.
Speaker 5 (01:13:41):
I can't believe it. I really can't.
Speaker 8 (01:13:43):
And the downgrade you go from Anthony Davis to Luca
on defense too, and there's still Lebron James has to
be like one of the best number twos of all time,
like the second, second player, supporting player, and I hate
to just put Lebron as a supporting player, but like, yeah,
is the number one. He scored, He's gonna shoot the
ball the most, He's gonna score the most. But Lebron
(01:14:04):
does like everything else you talk about the defensive side,
Lebron defensively and the size of the Lakers have helping
everything out.
Speaker 5 (01:14:10):
He's not the number two guys. I know everything you're saying,
but it's his team.
Speaker 6 (01:14:16):
Lucas, Lucas great Lucas one of the best players in
the world.
Speaker 2 (01:14:19):
I get, I get it still is his team like
because Lebron James Moore is like the CEO and everything
right now, but Lucas the number one in terms of
everything's gonna run through him off.
Speaker 6 (01:14:28):
As we're sitting here, Lebron, you can make the argument
Lebron James one of the best five players in the NBA,
and you couldn't said that three months ago.
Speaker 3 (01:14:37):
You couldn't say it's one of the One of the
four players ahead of him is probably Lucas. Maybe he's
still not. Can we say one A and one B.
Speaker 5 (01:14:44):
Yeah, the basketball, what do you make out of all this,
Dick as you watch it?
Speaker 4 (01:14:50):
Yeah, I haven't seen enough. I'm just that obviously be traveling.
But it's gotten a major j J. He's got a
great coaching staff and they obviously figured something out even
prior to the trade, right and since the trade, they
just they have so many options and they've obviously got
a good scheme. Again, they're playing better defense with that
(01:15:11):
Anthony Davis, who I would say is one of the
best ten defenders in the league. It's pretty impressive. And
then Dallas looks like they're just cursed. Right, they make
the trade, Kyrie blows out as acl Anthony Davis doesn't
finish one game. I mean, they're heading for a lot
of it. It's just a complete nightmare. But yeah, it's
great to have the Laker's too good again and be relevant.
And they got their star for the next generation again.
(01:15:32):
It's almost like somebody in the league said, the Lakers
they have star Dallas in the help out. That's a
real I don't figure that out. The thing is just bizarre.
Speaker 6 (01:15:43):
I don't know what happened in Dallas, and we may
never know. It could be like the Eagles the end
of the Eagles twenty three season.
Speaker 5 (01:15:49):
We may never know. How can you trade move to
Dancis at twenty It doesn't happen in any sport. You
don't get a twenty five old supperstarm right.
Speaker 4 (01:16:02):
It's one of those things. And look, I don't know
the guy who made the trade. I mean he's a
fairly new general manager running the show down there. But
whenever there's a deal where you're the only guy in
the world that thinks it's a good deal, you might
want to rethink your position.
Speaker 3 (01:16:18):
Yeah, it's probably not a good deal. Well, did you
see what Mark Curan said yesterday, Dick?
Speaker 7 (01:16:23):
There was a trade?
Speaker 5 (01:16:24):
What was a trade?
Speaker 6 (01:16:25):
When Durant went to to Phoenix New Terms, he got
back McHale and four first round picks?
Speaker 5 (01:16:33):
Are you protected? They got one?
Speaker 3 (01:16:36):
And he said, how can you do that?
Speaker 4 (01:16:38):
Like, how is that possible? But that's that's the other thing.
If you're going to make that, you need to get
every imaginable possibility. And they didn't do that. Basically, the
guy was saying, and why can I not remember his name? John?
Help me out? What's what's the GM at Dallas.
Speaker 3 (01:16:54):
N Harrison or something like that, Harrison.
Speaker 4 (01:16:57):
So so Nico's saying, all right, I think Anthony Davis,
who obviously had a great career, a lot of a
lot of injuries. I think he and Kyrie and the
other players that we have are good enough to win
a championship. That's what he's saying. That's what he's saying.
I don't know why you would have said that. I
just don't see that.
Speaker 5 (01:17:14):
They went to the final last year.
Speaker 4 (01:17:17):
Exactly they were, They were in the finals. Your best,
your star player has been hurt. You're playing pretty well
without him. Now when he comes back, it's just I
don't you know, And then they put something Luca.
Speaker 3 (01:17:30):
Did something that ticks somebody off.
Speaker 4 (01:17:35):
Or and they thought there was that putting out stuff. Well,
when he's thirty, it's going to be he's going to
be hurt. Okay, there was a famous.
Speaker 6 (01:17:42):
When he's Anthony Davis will be retired and Luca will
still be one of the two best players, the best
players in the world.
Speaker 8 (01:17:49):
But by the way, to your point, Miker and that
Duran trade, look how that turned out because both teams
in that in that trade are the eleventh and the respective.
Speaker 5 (01:17:56):
But at least they got Michale Bridges out of it.
Speaker 3 (01:17:59):
Four draft I'm saying then that something to like pull
themselves out of the sun's made that trade for a win.
Speaker 7 (01:18:05):
Now, all.
Speaker 6 (01:18:07):
All the NBA wants to see is this Golden State
versus the Lakers in the second round. That's what they want.
Speaker 5 (01:18:16):
They want Steph Luca Lebron, Jimmy Butler, That's what they want,
and they might get it because I think there's a
chance they could actually be in the same bracket and
it goes seven. I mean, it's just the Western playoffs
are going to be must watch. You just have a
guy on den Denver's playing great and nobody's even paying
(01:18:38):
attention to them, and and Oklahoma City is playing great.
Speaker 4 (01:18:45):
Yeah, the Lakers are second, eleven back.
Speaker 8 (01:18:48):
Yeah yeah, Well how much is Boston back of Cleveland.
Boston's like eight, and then then the Knicks are thirteen.
Speaker 4 (01:18:56):
Yeah, Cleveland. It's interesting. Cleveland and Oklahoma City remind me
of Denver two years ago. They had the best team
and nobody believed it until they won the title. These guys,
I mean the NBA generally, the teams that are the
best team in the regular season are the best team
in the post ta.
Speaker 5 (01:19:10):
How about Cleveland picking up the guy from Philly, DeAndre
DeAndre Hunter.
Speaker 9 (01:19:16):
They got him.
Speaker 3 (01:19:17):
He's averaging like a game. How do you get him?
Speaker 4 (01:19:20):
I don't know what that was all about, but he's
I've always loved him, loved them at Uba when they
won the Best Friendly Terrific Player. We've had a very
up each show up till this point.
Speaker 5 (01:19:33):
But we have to we have to do I'm believing
I'm done. I got to go to a party. I'm
out of here seeing that we're.
Speaker 4 (01:19:39):
Doing it in Seanner. After the break, we're going to
discuss the state of the professional basketball team or in
quotes in the city at twenty one and forty one,
a half game ahead of the Raptors. At this point,
it's kind of a set.
Speaker 3 (01:19:59):
Playing anything's possible.
Speaker 4 (01:20:02):
I don't think they're going to make it, Kyle.
Speaker 3 (01:20:04):
It's it's just you gotta believe. Why would they want
to make it?
Speaker 8 (01:20:09):
I don't Why are we even asking this question because
of your response.
Speaker 4 (01:20:17):
Yeah, savor it for after the break. You're listening to

here in Parks Casino in Ben Salem with Mike Kern
and Kyle not a Maker. Joining us on the phone
from Madison, Wisconsin is Dick Girardi. The Sixers. They're not
(01:22:10):
doing great, or maybe they are in some cases. I
guess in the way you think about it, perspective counts.
But Dick Girardi, I'll let you start with the sad
state of the sixers.
Speaker 4 (01:22:22):
Yeah, I mean if they're not even going to make
the play in obviously at this point is Mike just said,
you don't really want to make the play and Sean
is back in the schan Bernards back in the studio
and needed more about the six or ninety others. Sean,
jump in here and jump in whenever you want, but
I certainly want to get sewn perspective on what's going on. Yeah,
at this moment, they're actually closing on Toronto so they
(01:22:42):
could get more ping pong balls, and that's really all
they're playing for at this stage. Mike, I need a
rant from you about all of this, and then Sean
jump in and tell us what the state of the
state of play is here. As we had a final
part of the seats.
Speaker 5 (01:22:56):
There's only two things that can happen.
Speaker 6 (01:22:58):
You make the play in and you get killed at
some point by somebody, or you don't make the play
in and you have a chance to get a draft
pick this team, which will help this team more. Now,
I have never been a proponent of losing games on purpose.
I was listening to d line them this week and
I respect the a lot. She's great, especially with basketball.
(01:23:19):
Her point was you can't have young kids playing to lose.
And I get a point, I because that was the
problem ten years ago. As Dick pointed out, many times,
the team didn't have to win. They were basically taught
were losing and all these young guys were coming up
and then they didn't have to win. But there's only
two things that can happen. You make the play in
(01:23:40):
which does you nothing because Joe ain't playing, George's hurt,
Maxi's hurt. I don't see what you gain other than
you get and you get to experience a playoff situation
for maybe some guys that aren't even going to be
here maybe or whatever. Or you get a possible draft
pick in the top six that can at least maybe
(01:24:04):
help you. So I don't understand what the problem is.
I would I wouldn't. I mean, I know the NBA
wouldn't go for this, and I get, but why is
Paul George playing? You know, and now Maxie who is
stunk for the last two or three weeks because he's
playing with a bad finger, and now he hit his
back and all.
Speaker 3 (01:24:21):
I mean, just stop, stop, And I think they might win.
Speaker 5 (01:24:26):
Them arek because they're playing Utah here and Youthah stinks.
Speaker 3 (01:24:32):
I don't want them to win them.
Speaker 4 (01:24:33):
Yeah, So Sean, give us the state of play depending
on where the Sixers finish. What are the possibilities here
is I don't think they're going to make the play
in so you can tell us what you think.
Speaker 11 (01:24:45):
Yeah, no, do I kind of lay out the state here. So,
as you mentioned, they're twenty one and forty one. That's
thirty one and a half games out of the first place.
They're five and a half back of that last playing slot,
which is a lot of ground to make up at
this point. So we are kind of focused on the
lottery outs. So they're currently tied with the Brooklyn Nets.
If they're a current state, they have a thirty four
point five percent chance to the top four pick and
eight point two percent chance at the one pick, and
(01:25:06):
of course it is top six protected, so it has
to fall in that. Currently that's a forty five point
eight percent chance. Now the Raptors have a pretty good
chance of passing them. The Raptors are playing the Wizards today,
so a winnable game there, and then of course the
Sixers verse Raptors on Wednesday, it was just gonna be
a huge game. But they could completely drop all the
way to the fourth or fifth best odds, which if
that can if you get the fourth, eve an eighty
(01:25:27):
one percent chance of keeping the pick fifth sixty four percent.
Speaker 8 (01:25:30):
So that's really the ground that you got to get to.
I love how you just said Sixers Raptors this week
is a big game.
Speaker 7 (01:25:36):
You're wrong.
Speaker 6 (01:25:40):
Knowing the Sixers, but it's true Phlodelphia, so true. They
will win their next two games. They will beat you Totomar,
and they will beat the Raptors. You watch, and somebody's
gonna tell me, oh man, we can still get to playing.
Speaker 3 (01:25:52):
Are you kidding me? Yeah, after what you just said
to Sean.
Speaker 8 (01:25:55):
With the Raptors playing the Wizards too, I mean that
they'll they'll probably win that game, yeah.
Speaker 11 (01:26:00):
Wizards, or that bed back to backs against the Wizards too,
So it's too straight against the Wizards for the As
and then the Sixers.
Speaker 3 (01:26:06):
So the Sixers will keep winning then, yeah, I mean
they can't.
Speaker 11 (01:26:09):
And to the point about like tanking, the mindset there,
I definitely get the principles of this. My stance would
be like players don't tank, organizations tanks, so like if
they yeah, taking Maxie off the floor was Frankly, he's
been there way too long. It's crazy that they had
him playing through the hand injury where they literally said
he had to change his shooting for him to release
with three fingers. I don't understand why he's even out
(01:26:29):
there if that's the case, If.
Speaker 5 (01:26:31):
Tyree Smaxi is on the court, or anybody he's on
the quarter, I Flani i Flani from Ready is on
the court, they got to try their hardest. It's their profession,
that's what they're doing. I expect them to try their hardest.
And by the way, nobody should ever get back to
back against the Wizards. That's criminal. But again, you're you're
(01:26:51):
absolutely right showing it's an organization and we lived through
this eight years ago, ten years ago, whatever it was,
and I know the league would frown upon it. But again,
if guys are legitimately hurt, what is Tyres Maxie gaining
from playing, or at least sit him ount a week
or two into until he's healthier or whatever. Paul George
(01:27:12):
has been like a walking mirage of his old self.
Speaker 8 (01:27:17):
Why so, why, like, why are we I have a
legitimate reason to shut these guys down for the season,
So why not do it?
Speaker 3 (01:27:23):
So you know what's really great?
Speaker 2 (01:27:25):
On the Sixers team page on the ESPN, they'll go
like in the middle, they'll have the top stories for
the team.
Speaker 3 (01:27:31):
Uh, going down.
Speaker 2 (01:27:32):
So the first story is about NBA draft picks, the
NBA draft, and the second story is Paul George and
the Sixers getting booted.
Speaker 3 (01:27:40):
Smacked down. This is just incredible. We're at an incredible state.
They put that on their homepage. Yes, all the Sixers
home page.
Speaker 8 (01:27:48):
The second story is Paul Towards and the Sixers boot
It's SmackDown.
Speaker 3 (01:27:52):
Yeah, well did the great spot They have a championship belt. Yeah, yeah,
a made championship.
Speaker 6 (01:27:57):
Championship belt, dick, they held a championship all off. Gonna
get Jesus, I have not I have nothing left.
Speaker 3 (01:28:07):
I have nothing left.
Speaker 9 (01:28:08):
Neither do they.
Speaker 3 (01:28:09):
They've got to restart.
Speaker 11 (01:28:10):
And and the biggest problem with like the state of
it is when you look at like their actual options
for building from here, like this is gonna be mostly
the same team next year, so they really have to
find a way to get some sort of two.
Speaker 5 (01:28:20):
Thy fourteen and fifteen all over again.
Speaker 3 (01:28:25):
I can't go through that. Well, you're gonna have.
Speaker 5 (01:28:28):
Flyers are going through the same thing over again that
we've been going through.
Speaker 3 (01:28:34):
I mean, thank God for Diagles in the films.
Speaker 8 (01:28:37):
But maybe maybe when Paul George turns thirty six next year,
wholl he'll come, He'll read.
Speaker 3 (01:28:43):
Are they going to get older and slower this offseason?
Speaker 1 (01:28:45):
Two?
Speaker 4 (01:28:45):
Dick?
Speaker 3 (01:28:46):
Like they can you do that?
Speaker 4 (01:28:47):
I don't think they Yeah, I don't think they can
get much older and slower than they already got.
Speaker 3 (01:28:52):
But I don't know. I think PJ. Tucker's out there.
They can grab Kyle Lowry extension.
Speaker 8 (01:28:56):
Kyle Lowry, That's what I'm talking about. Bring on it,
Eric Gordon back. And meanwhile, Horford might win a second title. Yes,
he couldn't work here though, God forbid he.
Speaker 4 (01:29:09):
Could work here.
Speaker 5 (01:29:10):
Jesus.
Speaker 4 (01:29:10):
Then, can't have that, can't have that, and and and
and over all of it. No one has any idea
what mbat is going to be like in the future, right,
it doesn't promising.
Speaker 3 (01:29:23):
I have an idea what in the future. Yeah, he's
going to be the thirty six point a game guy.
Speaker 5 (01:29:30):
It could still be uh, it could be a guy
who can go out and get you twenty five or
thirty or and have good nights and then you're gonna
have to rest him for a week because his knees
gonna act up.
Speaker 4 (01:29:40):
Yeah, like I think, sadly, that's probably what you're looking
at and how that gets repaired. You know, the doctors
doing miraculous things these days, but I mean, this is
a a genital injury.
Speaker 12 (01:29:52):
This just seems like, yeah, you can't do anything about that.
And yeah, maybe you can't cure an ancient body. And
and de littley of big guys in the NBA, we
could go through this. It's amazing. Yal Ming played like
seven years, his body caught up to him. Got guys,
I mean, we could.
Speaker 3 (01:30:08):
Do Bill Walton, Oh yeah, all of them.
Speaker 5 (01:30:13):
I mean now we see Zion Williamson, we see Anthony Davis,
we see their bodies. Just can't hand lem.
Speaker 6 (01:30:18):
But I will say this, the guy who was responsible
for giving him be the extra three years when there
was and the guy who signed Paul George, Yeah they're
better be Rather if the owner doesn't look at that
and say, why did we do both Paul George Paul George.
I get why they did the Paul George even though
(01:30:42):
I didn't necessarily, but that was.
Speaker 3 (01:30:43):
The move giving him be the three years.
Speaker 5 (01:30:46):
They're going to be in in cap hell for the
next four or five years with nothing to.
Speaker 3 (01:30:52):
Show for it, and maybe not even draft picks to show. Yeah,
that's the thing, even in hell with the draft too.
Speaker 2 (01:30:56):
I just don't know how they get out of this
other than you know, Ran Hope, you get a good
draft pick this season and you're wasting You're wasting TI.
So riddle me this when it comes to Daryl Moore
of the organization, Josh Harris, so say they, uh, don't
get the top six pick and you're you have this
(01:31:17):
current state throughout the summer. How does the organization spin
it positively for next season?
Speaker 5 (01:31:24):
That song? Yeah, they play that song.
Speaker 4 (01:31:26):
Yeah.
Speaker 11 (01:31:26):
I think they take the everything get everything that could
go wrong did go wrong this year approaches, how they'll
try and spin it and really, like, the only optimistic
swing I'll take is we got to see what Jad
McCain's fully about, because I do think that there is
something to him as a player that could change, like
the potential outlook of this franchise. They got to get
a larger sample size fully evaluated. But that'll be what
next year is about.
Speaker 4 (01:31:45):
You.
Speaker 6 (01:31:46):
There's no doubt you're and then if they draft somebody here,
if Joe isn't playing, they got no shot. Yeah, because
when Joe plays, they win like seventy five per games.
When Joe doesn't play, they win.
Speaker 3 (01:32:01):
Turning part is this year got worse and he's now
he is not going to be healthy in October. He's
not gonna be healthy ever. Well that's true, but.
Speaker 5 (01:32:10):
I mean he's probably gonna miss the first month or
two of a season.
Speaker 3 (01:32:14):
I think to dig them into a hole.
Speaker 2 (01:32:16):
That's what gets more difficult is if he's going to
be out for more games, you want that percentage to
go up because you have to make the games that
he's playing count. But if he's gonna be out a lot,
that means he's probably not gonna be at his best,
and that also means the number is going to go down.
In a perfect I just don't.
Speaker 3 (01:32:30):
I don't.
Speaker 6 (01:32:31):
I just don't see it in a perfect world. Even
if he started the season playing, Let's say he's going
to play fifty to fifty five games in a perfect world.
Speaker 8 (01:32:39):
Yeah, in an imperfect world, maybe you only get him
for forty.
Speaker 3 (01:32:43):
Well, they can't win with it, and then you get
to the playoffs. And you're gonna do what, play him
twenty straight games if.
Speaker 5 (01:32:51):
You know whatever.
Speaker 8 (01:32:52):
Yeah, they're just the work. You know, Paul George is
gonna have these lingering injuries. It's the same, it's the
same storyline every year when we will watch we're going
to have the consistent came.
Speaker 5 (01:33:02):
You watched him in the Olympics, and you saw him
in the Olympics.
Speaker 3 (01:33:04):
You knew this was going to happen.
Speaker 4 (01:33:06):
You knew it.
Speaker 3 (01:33:07):
He shouldn't have been playing in the Olympics. Not that
maybe it wouldn't have made a difference.
Speaker 5 (01:33:11):
Maybe he still would have been hurt or whatever.
Speaker 3 (01:33:14):
As long as he had a good time.
Speaker 5 (01:33:15):
He won a gold medal.
Speaker 4 (01:33:17):
So here's here's the other here's the other question. And
everybody's right. If the emb doesn't come back in some
form of himself and probably nothing else really matters other
than Cooper flag. Is there any other player that anyone
has interest in? If the Sixers finished like second, third or.
Speaker 5 (01:33:34):
Fifty, you tell us you're the guy you know more
of these guys?
Speaker 4 (01:33:37):
Yeah, Uh, the answer is no. Unfortunately, I don't think
there's a single other college groups and I don't know
that I don't know the international guys I'd be making
up off I said, I n anything about them, Sean,
you follow this stuff? Is there any other name out there? Obviously?
Flag is a difference maker. He changes the equation. Is
there any other name out there that you like it all? Yeah?
Speaker 11 (01:33:59):
I personally I have become as Bailey guy that he's
not perfect by any mind, by any means at Rutgers,
He's got to work on the shot selection big time.
Speaker 3 (01:34:05):
But I do think he's a guy that wants it.
Speaker 11 (01:34:07):
He competes every night. I think there's a fit there
from a long term perspective, and I think he's probably
gonna be the two pick. I also really like VJ.
Edgecomb out of Baylor. He's pretty intriguing to me. Trey
Johnson has got a let of love in Texas, and
Dylan Harper at Rutgers as well. So it's a fairly
deep draft. I mean Flag is for sure like the
prize of it. So that's gonna be the number one page.
Speaker 3 (01:34:25):
They need a six six six, seven sixty eight. They
need Michael Bridges, It's what they need.
Speaker 4 (01:34:31):
But yeah, I saw I saw aast Balley twice. Love
he was incredible the second time against Penn State. He
was great, just phenomenal. He's got a little he's got
a little, you know, and I'm not making a comparison.
Got a little Kevin Durant on right, six' ten can
shoot with. Range he's not nearly as policy obviously As
(01:34:51):
durant was coming out Of. Texas but, YEAH i hear
What sean is saying his issue, now and it's true Of.
Rutgers they don't guard, anybody and he did even try gardening,
body but that Was Jason tatum didn't guard, anybody and
he's year in.
Speaker 3 (01:35:03):
College so here's what's going to.
Speaker 6 (01:35:05):
Happen if it's a two person, draft The sixers will pick.
Three if the three person draft will pick, Four i'm
just telling you know, it AND i know it suan
any foreign guys that we're not aware, of it could
be like a top four or five pick that that
maybe would would.
Speaker 11 (01:35:22):
Help it's pretty light on foreign talent this. Year the
guy that headlines, things his name Is Nolan triori out Of.
France he's more of a guard to a bigger, guard
WHICH i don't mind. Him haven't looked into him too.
DEEP i also know the kid out Of, Illinois Casparis
jack Of Eunice IS i think how you say his?
Speaker 5 (01:35:36):
NAME i was really in on.
Speaker 11 (01:35:37):
Him, yeah that was a really good. TIME i was
really in on him at the start of the. Year
the More i've watched, him there's games where he's just
pretty non. Existent he's intriguing as a skill, Set he's
like six, seven can put the ball on the. Floor
he'll probably be a top ten pick, still but pretty
late on international talent.
Speaker 4 (01:35:51):
Overall, yeah it's, Interesting. Pence they was at At, illinois
but that's one of the games you did not. PLAY
i saw. HIM i only saw him in warm. Up
jacka a surround just, said, uh, Yeah i'm with, You.
SEAN i liked him Better november And. December yeah THAT
i like him. Now And I'M i don't think that's
a really particularly well coached team. Anyway so it's hard
to tell about some of those guys how they're going
(01:36:12):
to be in the pros because and and AND i
like the coach, personally BUT i just think he should
throw the balls out, there, guy AND i don't see
them ever running, anything so who knows how good he might.
Speaker 7 (01:36:22):
Be there's no way, situation.
Speaker 6 (01:36:24):
Giving the history Of, philadelphia WHICH i am well. Aware
there is no way On God's green or third Getting Cooper. Flyg,
no just there's no that can't. Happen it's not because
it's Like Tim, duncan we got And Allen. Iverson, look
he's All. Famer he took him to a. Final But
Tim duncan won five. Titles, no what do you won five? Titles?
Speaker 8 (01:36:45):
Here who knows where an opposite of the sixers? Get
there is always another more, positive there's three guys in.
Speaker 5 (01:36:52):
The, draft they'll pick.
Speaker 6 (01:36:53):
Four i'm just telling you this is the way it will,
work and we'll be sitting here two years from now,
going oh, man they could have had this.
Speaker 7 (01:36:59):
Guy.
Speaker 6 (01:37:00):
Yeah and then, look they've made a couple of good draft, picks,
right they Got, maxie they got the guy who. FAIR
i wanted the guy who went to The. Lakers but
the guy From duke has looked like he was gonna
be pretty. Good BUT i just don't trust the. ORGANIZATION
i just.
Speaker 3 (01:37:17):
YEAH i GUESS i do want to.
Speaker 2 (01:37:18):
Ask but because they have hit on even second round draft,
picks and like undrafted, guys is there a type is
there like a player profile that they're going for that
that seems to be Working and is there anyone that
would fit that potentially at the top of the.
Speaker 11 (01:37:30):
DRAFTS i mean the The Darryl mory, book AND i
don't mind reading from this. Here it's just take the
biggest blue chip prospect that has kind of fell in the.
Draft that's how he hit On, maxie how he hit on.
McCain i think, currently like you gotta pick for fit
a little, more which in, GENERAL i don't think is
a great rule when picking in the. Top but they
need a guy sort of of The Ace bailey Or
cooper Flag arc type that they're a high level, rebounder
high level athlete with size that can play sort of
(01:37:51):
a power, forward sort of a wing type.
Speaker 5 (01:37:53):
Position SO i think that's what they should be targeting. Now,
GUYS i was thinking about this this.
Speaker 6 (01:37:57):
Week it's it's just but we talk about drafting all the, time,
right football and basketball or different.
Speaker 5 (01:38:01):
SPORTS i get all. That think about The eagles in
the last five six, ers the second round, picks not
for forget first. Round second round picks start With Jalen,
Hurts Okay Landon, dickerson the, Center Cam, jers The Cooper.
Dejene that's for first round picks that they got in
(01:38:25):
the second round and we wonder why they just won
a Super.
Speaker 3 (01:38:27):
Bowl, no that's how you do. It that's exactly how
you do.
Speaker 5 (01:38:32):
It and The sixers have made some good. Moves i'm
not saying order moves have. Been it's more their problems
more with the, signings, yeah than the.
Speaker 11 (01:38:39):
Drafts but you, know and even some of these late
draft guys Like Justin edwards is an undrafted free agent,
here like that's a slam. Dunk that's a guy who's
been starting, games is ready for rail rotation. Minutes but
at the same, time like even these LIKE i, guess
lower level moves here don't make up for when the
top end of your roster just isn't playing out exactly.
Speaker 8 (01:38:56):
Exactly and that's what that's what the problem has been
for you, know all these, YEARS i, said you can keep,
retooling getting these different role, players but when the problem
is at the, top when it comes to your star,
players all it doesn't.
Speaker 3 (01:39:09):
Send the rest doesn't.
Speaker 5 (01:39:10):
Matter it all centers around twenty, One every move they
made in the off season was about contending this. Year
they were all in this, year and When joe.
Speaker 6 (01:39:18):
Goes down or doesn't, play it doesn't, matter doesn't matter
who you bring in or what you, do you ain't
beating The.
Speaker 5 (01:39:24):
Celtics you ain't be, hell they they, Could they probably
couldn't even beat Or. Lando, yeah right.
Speaker 8 (01:39:28):
Now so and that's WHY i, said you, know the,
rotating you know number two, guy you, know to fit
With joel uh and then you Had tobias's. Contract as
long as you Have Joel embiid as your quote unquote
leader And Tobias harris's, contract it doesn't matter who that.
Speaker 5 (01:39:43):
Number they were thirty seven and eleven last year When joe,
PLAYED i mean for championship, aspirations but.
Speaker 3 (01:39:49):
They were thirty seven and. ELEVEN i, know that's pretty,
good that's very. GOOD i think you.
Speaker 8 (01:39:54):
Know the stats are, good the standings were, good but
it was always the same As Obias. Harris they were thirty.
Seven i'm just, saying if you wanted a true championship,
Contender Joel embiid was not the.
Speaker 3 (01:40:03):
Answer he was the.
Speaker 5 (01:40:06):
Answer his knee wasn't the.
Speaker 3 (01:40:08):
ANSWER i just don't think he had the. Mentality so
you may be.
Speaker 8 (01:40:12):
Right that's Been dick's, Contention but you're, right the stats
and the standings were all. There WHEN i just, say
the moral of the, story not The Daryl. More it's
just Not joel. EMBIID i don't think it was ever
a championship caliber. Place maybe that's the number.
Speaker 4 (01:40:27):
One, well here's here's the good. News here's the good.
News four weeks ago, tomorrow The eagles won The Super. Bowl,
yeah can we we're still good with? That where everybody's.
Speaker 6 (01:40:37):
Happy the town's already ticked. Off, now, yeah we're back to.
Recrea we don't like this guy that they. Signed oh my, god.
Speaker 3 (01:40:45):
Back to the regularly. Scheduled we did think about, this.
Speaker 6 (01:40:47):
Dick it's only the third time in forty two years
that we are sitting here coming off of a.
Speaker 3 (01:40:53):
Championship the. Thrilled, No i'm.
Speaker 4 (01:40:57):
Pissed the second time in, seven second time in seven
for The. Eagles so that's a Pretty you take me
To Super bowls every seven, years, right you take that in?
Speaker 3 (01:41:07):
Forever another one and almost won that, one right.
Speaker 4 (01:41:11):
Exactly and we got The phillies starting in, hell how
long three?
Speaker 3 (01:41:14):
Weeks what do we got three?
Speaker 5 (01:41:16):
Weeks less than three? Weeks less than three?
Speaker 8 (01:41:18):
Weeks or by the, way by the, way real, quick
did you? ALREADY i just wanted to point this. Out
Fox sports put a UH a list out top ten
uh Biggest philadelphia athletes. Currently Paul george was on that
list And Zach wheeler got. Snubbed yeah, no, no, no
(01:41:38):
no wait wait who put that list Out Fox? Sports
well the sports should be.
Speaker 5 (01:41:44):
Shot.
Speaker 3 (01:41:44):
YEAH i don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:41:46):
If you've made that, list they should know. Better paul
Ja wheeler's.
Speaker 3 (01:41:51):
Awesome, yeah. Exactly Where's Aaron. Nola i'll see IF i
can hold up right?
Speaker 4 (01:41:56):
Now, YEAH i need to hear.
Speaker 3 (01:41:58):
That, yes it was It Will.
Speaker 4 (01:42:01):
Joe was.
Speaker 3 (01:42:02):
First give me ONE i have.
Speaker 11 (01:42:04):

hurt's number, Two Bryce harper number, Three joel eb number, FOUR. A.
J brown number, Five Tyrese maxie number, Six DeVante smith number,
Seven Jalen carter number, Eight Paul george number, nine And
Trey turner number.
Speaker 4 (01:42:22):

Speaker 8 (01:42:23):
Yeah from WHAT i said last, NIGHT i don't Think
paul georgean nine is really no, yeah no.
Speaker 3 (01:42:29):
Way Trey.
Speaker 5 (01:42:29):
Turner there's no Way Trey turner's is A Paul. Wheeler
there's no way The.
Speaker 8 (01:42:34):
Wheeler the eight of The phillies who are, arguably uh
one of the you, know the most successful teams in
the city obviously not now with The Eagles Super, Bowl.
Speaker 3 (01:42:45):
I'm gonna blow my. Brains i'm gonna blow my. Brains
is not in the. Top i'm gonna be sixty seven next.
Month i've Done philadelphia for sixty seven.
Speaker 5 (01:42:53):
YEARS i love the. CITY i, love But i'm gonna
blow my brains.
Speaker 9 (01:42:56):
OUT i just.
Speaker 3 (01:43:00):
Moment and The eagles just won A Super bowl by
one hundred.
Speaker 4 (01:43:02):
Points plays no, video no video OF i don't want,
to but they did have.
Speaker 8 (01:43:10):
Been honorable, mentions And Zach wheeler did make the honorable.
Speaker 3 (01:43:14):
Mentions oh whoever you guys who love that wow town?
Speaker 7 (01:43:21):

Speaker 4 (01:43:22):

Speaker 3 (01:43:23):
List is he on honorable? Mention that's another good One? Johnson,
Yeah loach was born on that. List zach Bond man,

Speaker 3 (01:43:44):
That he voted on.
Speaker 4 (01:43:45):

Speaker 3 (01:43:48):
How does he have a? Job barely.
Speaker 5 (01:43:52):
Tell me how he has a. JOB i just Want.
Speaker 4 (01:43:55):
YEAH i, mean, Look darrel's got a, reputation, right you
had a good run In. Houston, uh but he went
to One Western Conference i'm Just I'm.
Speaker 13 (01:44:05):
Mike i'm JUST i don't shoot the messenger, Here mike
that he had a good run In, houston And i'm
on the record as SAYING i didn't LIKE i hadn't
liked the number of the mos and eight here The
george signing being.
Speaker 4 (01:44:17):
Obvious look when it, HAPPENED i, MEAN i get. IT
i knew what they were trying to, do but the
odds are WORTH i didn't think it was gonna. Be
nobody was gonna be like. THIS i, mean this is,
Ridiculous but the odds were that it probably wasn't gonna,
work just because of the ages of the different players
and where they were at different times of their.
Speaker 3 (01:44:33):
Career but you knew it wasn't, answer but you didn't
think it was gonna. BE i only want to answer, This.
Speaker 5 (01:44:38):
KYLE i thought they'd get to the second round again
and Lose that's WHAT i. THOUGHT i thought they'd probably
lose it In knicks in the second round, Again so that's.
Speaker 4 (01:44:47):
That's that's kind of WHERE i. WAS i thought The
knicks had a better roster than The, sixers even if
everybody was. Healthy but, well we'll never know the answer
to that.
Speaker 7 (01:44:55):
Question just.
Speaker 8 (01:44:58):
