Speaker 2 (01:16):
We have Duke in Alabama tomorrow two twenty on CBS
Houston and Tennessee. And then finally we have at five
o'clock tomorrow on CBS, we have Auburn and Michigan State.
And what do all these teams have in common? We
have four to one seeds, three twos, and a three.
The only two that lost was Saint John's, which is
the team.
Speaker 3 (01:36):
I like to win the championship, so.
Speaker 2 (01:38):
So much for me, and I still haven't figured out
what happened to them last Saturday.
Speaker 3 (01:41):
I'm dick girlready along with Mike karn.
Speaker 2 (01:44):
And Kyle Nunnamaker. John Jansen is in parts unknown or
is otherwise known New York somewhere, who stayed up last
night to watch the inbounds play from Houston that won
the game. I did, I did. I was there, Mike,
you were gone. I was in freeze gone, I said, Mike,
I like to play. This morning, it was out on
a brand Furscilla put a good thing out on X
(02:04):
this morning explaining the play and what happened. So for
the people that didn't see it, Houston had the game
against Purdue pretty much under control. They're up ten. He
just doesn't There's just no way Purdue, you figured they
can score that money. Well, Houston, there was one play
that kind of changed the game. There was a missed
goaltend obvious goaltend on Purdue, and then Houston founts. It
(02:26):
was a four point play that kind of got Purdue
back sort of in the game. And then Braden Smith
was incredible last night when he had sixteen assists. It
was just insane, and he had assisted on every Purdue
basket in the second half. And I frankly, I love
how Houston plays defense. But man, they had the wrong
defense against Braydon Smith last night. They were so intent
on him not scoring. They forgot what a great passer
(02:49):
he is, and he just you know, he found one
open player after another because they gambled. They said, we
don't think any of these other shooters can beat us,
so they almost did.
Speaker 4 (02:59):
Bridue coaches pretty good. He's great, He's terrific. I know
you weren't high on I'm not high on their team
when any of them pretty well.
Speaker 2 (03:07):
Right, I mean they have one, they have one left.
They had four going into the three lows. Maryland was
not really a factor. I thought Purdue played as well
as they possibly could have last night.
Speaker 3 (03:17):
I mean, they did have a home game, which was
helpful Michigan.
Speaker 4 (03:21):
Michigan was good for a long Could you explains because
I had to asked you yesterday, League, Why what's that?
Why perdue in Indianapolis?
Speaker 2 (03:30):
Yeah, I will explain it. Uh So, Michigan had a
nine point lead fairly late on Auburn last night, and
then Auburn for the first time to me in the tournament,
looked like an I said, Oh, that's the team we
watched all year. They were great down to stretch and
they ran away from Michigan. They'll play Michigan State. So
we have SEC team in every regional final. Technically they
(03:53):
could get four in. They're a dog in Newark tonight with.
Speaker 3 (03:56):
Alabama with the football playoffs.
Speaker 2 (03:58):
Right there you go. Alabama was saying amount twenty five
threes against me Yu the other night. Twenty record, right, yeah,
Mark Sears almost an NCAA record, which was twenty eight,
but didn't have that game in twenty one. They had
twenty more. I'm sorry. Yeah, they they did score one
hundred and forty, but they did forty nine, only a
(04:19):
mere twenty one threes. Jeff Bryer I think had ten
of them or eleven, so he still has the record.
I believe he does. Although Mark Seriars came with him
one the other night he had ten threes after he'd
been kind of cold lately. So we got, we got
all that we got. Uh, Mike wants to know why
Houston is in Indianapolis. So here's the reason. The tournament
(04:42):
committee is.
Speaker 4 (04:42):
I've not that they're in Indianapolis, that they were playing
for due Indianapolis.
Speaker 2 (04:45):
Yeah, I've said this many times. The tournament committee is
just that they don't. They're kind of tone deaf. So
what they do. They ranked the number one seeds in
the order in which they think they deserve to be ranked,
and they racked Auburn first, and they got site preference
all the way through. So they're that's fine, makes sense,
fairly close to their campus. Good for them. They got
(05:06):
a quasi home game. Duke was two, so they stay
in the East. That's fine, no problem with Duke two.
Houston was three. So here's the choice they had. They
said they could send them to Indianapolis or to San Francisco. Well,
obviously Indianapolis is probably slightly closer to Houston. I don't
know the exact number. I'd have to look at it.
Speaker 4 (05:23):
They probably drive from Houston. It's a long drive. You
can't drive to see it.
Speaker 2 (05:26):
Francisco, right, you could get there, but regardless, it's a
several hour plane flood. Absolutely, no matter what you're doing.
So they's Houston's three in Florida's four. Well, the problem
was when you take the third, your third best team,
and you put them in Indianapolis, and the three seed
in Indianapolis in region is Kentucky and the four seed
is Purdue, you're doing.
Speaker 4 (05:48):
A disservice to your number three by seting they wanted
to send them to Saint Elmos.
Speaker 2 (05:51):
That's they wanted them to get again, I guess, but
it just it turns out they want they beat Purdue
and they're playing tennis. Here's what I was. Nevertheless, it
was just stupid.
Speaker 4 (06:00):
In twenty sixteen, I remember this villain, Yeah, this is Villanova.
Well and and again this is going to go back
to taking care of Carolina, taking care of Duke, taking
care of Houston's not one of those. No, Okay, the
committee said, we can't assume who's going to win.
Speaker 3 (06:14):
Correct, Okay, fine, I'll buy that.
Speaker 2 (06:16):
Whatever.
Speaker 4 (06:17):
So we can't put because Llanova should have been the
two in the East at the Wells Fargo, which they
play there, but they didn't play more games and day
I think they played two games the credit they could
have played because they knew they were looking ahead. And
I got in a big argument with Feinstein about it,
and God bless John, and while Mike, you know, I said, no, John,
it's wrong. Villanova deserved to be because you couldn't assume
(06:40):
that Villanova and North Carolina were going to win.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
To get there, right, they broke their own rules. Would
it have been unfair to Carolina? Sure? Maybe? Okay?
Speaker 4 (06:47):
But and they ended up playing for the National Tites.
It turned out great, But they always said that.
Speaker 2 (06:53):
Yeah. Now, I actually saw Dan Gaviott in uh in
Houston that year and I said, Danny, I said, you
broke your own rules. The rules are if like Banova
had earned a site preference, they were to number one two, right, correct? Well, yeah, regardless,
they were the best team in the East left right
of than North Carolina and they lost in the championship
end of Seaton, all right, or they would you know,
(07:13):
they would have been probably a one in the East anyway. Oh,
that's what John and I argued about.
Speaker 4 (07:17):
He said, John, no, Villanova would have been no no, no, no, no,
I said John if they beat Seaton Hall.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
The point was that they gave a preference to North Carolina.
We think they said, well now clearly that yeah will
because you know, I asked Dan about it and he says, well,
you know, we can basically do whatever we want. I said, okay,
but the rules are that if a team has played
a whole season and has earned a site preference, and
Villaneve intentionally did not play four games at the Wells form,
(07:45):
which is too many to put to get otherwise you
don't get a home game. They said no. So they
ended up in Louisville, where they had a great game
against Kansas, and the rest is history. They beat North
Dad to go play Kansas in Louisville, correct, that's right,
which is like about two hours from Kansas. They made
a determination because it was North Carolina. They did not
want to put them at a disadvantage if each team
(08:07):
had won.
Speaker 3 (08:07):
Three The hell with North Carolina, Hell with Duke. I'm
sick of this.
Speaker 4 (08:10):
They always get the reference. It's fine, they earn it
most of the time. I'm not saint like.
Speaker 2 (08:15):
But that what they did was wrong, and what they
did to Houston this year was wrong for the same reason.
I mean, if you want to send you to do that,
do it consistently.
Speaker 4 (08:21):
Dick.
Speaker 2 (08:22):
Dick put up the point.
Speaker 4 (08:23):
One year, I can't remember, the Duke and Carolina had
played like one hundred eight tournament games in Carolina.
Speaker 3 (08:29):
Yeah, in the front, but they'd earned it.
Speaker 4 (08:30):
It was just like it was like Villanova maybe staying
somewhere close to you know, going to Pittsburgh.
Speaker 2 (08:35):
Or going to well there. There was a time, I
mean this has gone way back before. You know, there
weren't that many sites. There really weren't even that many teams,
but the Eastern teams regularly had to go down to
North Carolina, right Saint Joe Jack Ramsey's Great Saint Joe's
teams had to play in Charlotte all the time. And
that was back when the referees were not neutral. They
would bring their local referees. So it was it was
(08:57):
not how about Pen and seventy won't correct the right.
It happened to a lot of teams.
Speaker 4 (09:02):
Penn and seventy nine when they went to the final four,
they beat one of those teams down there.
Speaker 2 (09:07):
They call it Black Sunday, North Carolina and both lost
on the same day in Northeast Saint John j. Yeah,
they still haven't gotten over. And they're great programs. I
totally they do get a huge and I'm sure Kansas
gets a break. I didn't play a lot of it.
I'm the Big twelve tournaments in Kansas City. I remember
always helpful.
Speaker 4 (09:26):
I remember one year if Temple had made the two thousand,
I guess it was if they made the final four,
they would have played Michigan State somewhere like. But that's different.
That's a final four. You can't sure you know somebody's.
Speaker 2 (09:37):
Going to get it.
Speaker 4 (09:38):
If Villanova got to a final four in Philadelphia, that's
just the way, you know. But my god, I'm sitting there,
I said, Dick, I said, wait a minute, why, And
I get it now.
Speaker 2 (09:47):
I mean, okay, you didn't want to send them in
the first go.
Speaker 4 (09:49):
You think Florida wanted Floria's probably happy he is crap.
Speaker 2 (09:52):
In their hell. I think there's far away from first.
Gore's what they should do again, And I've told this
to some people on the committee and around. Clearly they know,
but to me, the one overall number one should pick
their site. Overall, number two should pick their so interesting
overall number three should pick so Houston clearly would have
picked San Francisco because just on.
Speaker 3 (10:13):
The off chance if that end up against Kentucky here and.
Speaker 4 (10:17):
Or Indianapols, Houston might have chosen Indianapolis, but they wouldnt
choose that Kentucky and and produce sitting there with them right.
Speaker 2 (10:24):
Well, that that part they really wouldn't have a choice
of back because they wouldn't know what's gonna happen. But
if you're paying attention, that's what you would have done.
But whatever, as it turned out, So anyway, here are
the games. Let's uh, by the way, the Phillies have started.
They're wanting too, on their way to one sixty two
and now one sixty one and one. Do you think
they're gonna lose? They play the Nats again today, Yes, Innaville.
Speaker 4 (10:48):
You know, you know what they're record against the Nazis
Lake over the last maybe since Harper came here or something.
It's it's like seventy and twenty five or something, and
that's not been good.
Speaker 2 (10:57):
Yeah, and that should have dropped baseball.
Speaker 5 (11:00):
They want to Yeah, they they sold their soul for
but they want they did any before you get started out.
Speaker 4 (11:07):
I just want to bring up one thing because you
were absolutely right about it, and I've heard a lot
of guys saying the same thing you did. The guy
from Duke to j Will, a couple other guys about
the nil and how it's changed the time. I'm not
saying there's never going to be a Cinderella guy team
that's going to win a couple of games again, but
I'm telling.
Speaker 2 (11:26):
You it's just a lot hard.
Speaker 3 (11:27):
The players for Drake aren't going to be playing for Trade.
Speaker 2 (11:30):
That's right, and it's weird. If I heard it once,
I heard it like five times. This guy played at
Belmont last year, and I'm thinking, why the hell didn't
Belmont win the national championship? That guy's on audience sweet sixteen.
Do you have Maryland point guard? There was another guy
last night.
Speaker 4 (11:46):
Kids in the Big five are already in the portal
that it's like seven or eight, Michael South, We're.
Speaker 2 (11:52):
Going at a great job recruiting this kid, Deuce Jones,
and he's gone that I.
Speaker 4 (11:56):
Mean, the poor Trexel guy. Three guys are in the portal.
It's player played for Kentucky last night. Then the other
guy played for a year ago. One of his guys
I think was playing, you pointed out, I thought it
was was playing for somebody's Penn's lading score was Penn
Saint John.
Speaker 3 (12:11):
I mean, so Saint Joe's guys now in the portal.
Speaker 4 (12:14):
Your guy at Temple Hill Brown Brown, I think he
went into the portal. So yeah, so he'll be playing
for whom.
Speaker 2 (12:25):
Hey, look, man, money talks. That's the way it is.
Some schools have it.
Speaker 4 (12:30):
Some schools somebody asked me, and buy it for people
that don't.
Speaker 2 (12:34):
Fan McCaffrey is the new Penn coach.
Speaker 4 (12:36):
Played at Penn White White Magic, White Magic, LaSalle High
School with Pat McClune, our former boss. They were on
this one and sat in the back court. He went
to Wake Forest, he came home.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
He he played three years.
Speaker 4 (12:49):
Somebody said, well, how do you think he's going to do?
I said, I think he's going to do fine. I think,
but what's he going to do? I said, just tell
me to what now? So if he goes out and
does a really good job and bring some players in, Okay, now,
you've got to retain this for me.
Speaker 2 (13:05):
This is what I say.
Speaker 4 (13:07):
If he can make the NCAA tournament at once every
three or four years, but get into the IVY League
tournament most years, you know you're only gonna.
Speaker 2 (13:15):
Be four out of it.
Speaker 4 (13:16):
Yeah, I mean, Tommy Amicker's had problem, you know, and
he was on a really good run for it us.
Speaker 2 (13:20):
But like I feel so bad.
Speaker 3 (13:22):
Like somebody's like, what how about the Lasal guy?
Speaker 2 (13:24):
He said, I don't know. What he can do.
Speaker 5 (13:27):
Is gonna set different standards for different ms because of
what they're working with exactly.
Speaker 2 (13:32):
The LaSalle is in a situation right the Atlantic ten
has this new rule basically where you have to raise
I think it's a half million a year.
Speaker 3 (13:40):
Uh oh okay, because the LaSalle can't do it.
Speaker 2 (13:44):
So their new coach was told when he got the job,
you have to go and get annihilated by two teams
and get like one hundred and twenty five thousand as
a guarantee that that's part of your deal. Temple did
that in football for years. I mean, so you know,
you start those.
Speaker 5 (14:00):
Games, you're like, why are they even playing these games?
Speaker 3 (14:03):
The money that's that's in a league where you have
to win the title.
Speaker 4 (14:08):
Probably okay, fine, you got to lose the Kentucky I
get it, but like, take a guy like like like
Saint Jose.
Speaker 2 (14:15):
He's had two twenty win seasons and.
Speaker 3 (14:17):
Yet they're considered disappointing.
Speaker 2 (14:19):
Seasons, or at least this year is, I think to a.
Speaker 4 (14:21):
Lot of people, because you basically went as far as
you went last year with a team. I feel for
your guy at Temple who seems like.
Speaker 2 (14:28):
He knows what he's doing. If you don't have players,
and if you get players, you ain't keep it. If
you do a good job recruiting, you're screwed. If you don't,
you know, you're at him, I'll just throw him out.
It could you could, It could easily be the guy
at Saint Jose.
Speaker 4 (14:49):
You are, You go out and you do a really
nice job, you get some players, you come in the freshman,
you look okay.
Speaker 2 (14:56):
You can't even like.
Speaker 4 (14:57):
Look ahead to see oh Man in two years this year.
Jay Wright had kids for minimum three years. The only one,
Dante left after two. Okay.
Speaker 3 (15:08):
McHale stayed three and he red shirted here.
Speaker 4 (15:10):
Josh right, but he only stayed two. He could have Okay,
Josh Hart, who's a really good NBA player, played four years.
Speaker 2 (15:19):
I forget that model. Mike it's over. I know, it's
just for that's never gonna happen. Never read shirt. That's
not even a word. The only hope he doesn't.
Speaker 5 (15:28):
You're right, the these coaches are actively acting as trainers
to get them to hope.
Speaker 3 (15:36):
The only hope you have is if you have a
players like Josh Hart.
Speaker 4 (15:38):
I'm just gonna use him as an example who aren't great,
they're very, very good.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
Maybe they stay.
Speaker 4 (15:44):
In college because they're going to make more money in college.
Speaker 3 (15:47):
Absolutely Hutchinson, right, was Dickerson.
Speaker 2 (15:50):
I keep calling him. Hutchinson stayed five years three at Michigan,
two at Kansas, and you know, and he's never gonna
he's not an NBA player, so he's probably gonna try
to petition for a sixth year somewhere cool. But yeah, no,
I think that's gonna The college players will stay in
college longer because you can get paid now. But yeah,
it's just total chaos. And again, get used to it,
(16:13):
and it's just unfortunate. And yeah, and welcome back to
Fred McCaffrey. I know very well. Uh did what I
thought was a very good job at Iowa, did as
well as he possibly could have under the circumstances. Will
coach fun offense. But to Mike's point, how do he
get players. I can't even entice people with like, hey,
you're gonna get a wharton degree. Yeah, you guys, Well
(16:33):
I'm gonna get a million dollars. A kid who went
to Saint John's two years ago. He was within one
year of getting a Wharton degree and still and still
our former boss Pat McLuhan, who's great boss. I said
you're gonna be on the staff. I mean they played together, Sure,
you know why not? Yeah, I think I can be
the general man. I think he said he's going to
(16:55):
be at the April seventh. I think he threw out
maybe that's the day they're going to formally. I'm a
week from day, A week from this is the day
of the championship game, and might see the day of
the championship game or probably the day after. I don't
know why you have it the day of the championship game,
but you might. Yeah. I mean, it ain't like any
Philly schools are going to be in the Santorio next weekend.
I had a few're not going to be in the tournament.
(17:16):
As a turnout.
Speaker 4 (17:18):
This was for a long time, my time of year,
one of my times year. I mean I did the
you know whatever, but this was a month. It was
a month from the A ten or Bigie Championship whatever.
All the way through, I knew I was going to
a region somewhere. Same with you. I am somebody. I
was on a radio sho listen and he said, Michael,
you know what do you think? I said, I'm not
(17:38):
into it. And I don't know if it's because the
Philly schools aren't in it, right, that's part of it.
Speaker 2 (17:43):
There's no, definitely part of it. I mean for years
you had Villanova, I mean for a.
Speaker 4 (17:48):
Straight decade, the Temple three teams that I had Temple
for a decade.
Speaker 2 (17:52):
And when I was going to Temple, you might be
going with Villanova.
Speaker 4 (17:56):
There there's three teams in the nineties or that, right, absolutely,
And then you got a pen.
Speaker 2 (18:01):
I mean, don't was going you would make it.
Speaker 4 (18:04):
I mean we had it was nuts, Kyle, and you
sat there on selection.
Speaker 2 (18:09):
Sunday, and it's just gonna get worse. And it's just
gonna get worse for the Philly schools. Now, the one
school that obviously has hope is Villanova, which is in
the middle of a coaching fiasco at the moment, is
that going to blow up on the Here's what here's
what we know. So this time last week, Richard Patino
is the clear front rock. I mean, he was in,
(18:29):
but they made a decision and he was ready to
take it. They made a decision they were going with
the guy from Maryland. They clearly.
Speaker 4 (18:39):
I think it's a hideous I know, I know, I'm
not a fan. And he went to a school in
your league, correct, Which is so Kevin Willard.
Speaker 2 (18:48):
Here's where here's where Villanova is. Either Kevin Willard is
going to Villanova and leaving Maryland or Villanova's up up
the creek. They got. They got no second possibility because
Richard Patino obviously has taken a Xavier job. The way
I would look at it that they clearly think that
Kevin Willard is an upgrade over Richard Patina. That's fine,
(19:09):
that's their thought, and I don't tend to agree with that.
Speaker 3 (19:11):
But we're going to see he's in the same conference, right.
Speaker 2 (19:15):
I would say his resume is slightly better than Patino's,
but not dramatically. And he's a bit of a crotchety
kind of a guy, where Patino is like a guy,
you'd be perfect Villanova guy.
Speaker 4 (19:27):
He's got a lot of j right, Rollanova needs some personality.
Speaker 3 (19:31):
So what do you what do you mean by crotchety
when it comes.
Speaker 2 (19:34):
Meaning like, uh, not necessarily easy to get along.
Speaker 3 (19:38):
Don't ask don't ask him the wrong question.
Speaker 2 (19:40):
Okay, Yeah, And I don't know how that plays on
the main line where Richard has got a lot of
jay right in just a regular guy, guy you can
you can talk to. So anyway, they whoever they are,
they is out there, which includes the athletic director and
the money guys, apparently are making this decision. They are
sitting there saying, all right, the Maryland coach is going
(20:01):
to leave Maryland and we are going to get in.
They've made that decision clearly. And I suspect Willard's agent
is to all of yes, we're coming. I mean Willard
actually had the heart to say after the game the
other night, I haven't talked to anybody. I haven't even
talked to agents. Just stop. Of course you have your
agent doesn't decide where you're going without you getting a
(20:21):
part of it. So what has happened in Maryland is
they don't have the nil money or don't seem interested
in accumulating it for basketball because it goes to the football.
The Villanova will do that. Villanova has more of it.
They got people. That's the one thing the Big East
has going for it is that there are schools there
and that's all they're playing. They ain't playing football except
(20:41):
for you con and that doesn't really count. I don't
know what they're doing. They can raise more money than
some football schools can raise because the football schools don't
care about any but football. So that that's kind of
where Villanova. And that's what Kevin Willard thinks. He thinks
Villanova's and look, obviously they've great success. He thinks that
(21:02):
league is probably easier to move up in than the
Big Ten. He's probably right about that. Maryland has nobody
coming back, essentially. Yeah, I don't even know if he's
recruited at Villanova. Is nobody coming back, right, Well, so
everybody starts Kentucky, everybody starts some scratch like you lose
all right, now, let's get a roster and no.
Speaker 3 (21:19):
High school kids get recruited, no nobody.
Speaker 2 (21:21):
It's amazing. Unless you're like a top ten recruit, you
forget it, you know, And you're wanting. I ran in.
Speaker 3 (21:27):
Nobody cares.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
Jeff.
Speaker 4 (21:29):
I ran intoor a good friend, Jeff Nyberg, who covers
the colleges now does most of the college that he
is golf thing the other day.
Speaker 2 (21:35):
Yep. So, and I asked Jeff the same question. I said, Jeff, I.
Speaker 4 (21:38):
Thought Richardiauz there was actually something on Google about two
three days ago the Patino was leaving for Villanova.
Speaker 3 (21:44):
Somebody put it out there from New Mexico.
Speaker 2 (21:46):
Well, he was ready to leave. They just didn't off
from the job out.
Speaker 4 (21:49):
Jeff looked at me just and he said, Mike, it
was always that the guy that he said they had
an agreement which isn't binding. There's nothing to need a
bad He said this could blow and he did. He
said this could blow up. Yep, whatever, and he explained
the whole reason like you just did with the money.
Speaker 2 (22:05):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (22:06):
I said, why would a guy leave Morown?
Speaker 2 (22:07):
Yep.
Speaker 4 (22:07):
And I agree with Dick. And I don't know Richard Patino,
like Dick does you. Villanova after these three years, they
need someone who's going to get people. And I'm not
saying that the guy who used to be a Seaton Hall.
He's a good coach, he wins, he did a good
job at Seaton Hall.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
He's you know whatever in his career, Mike, he has
been in one Sweet sixteam? Is that really? And and
Derrek Queen got him there with that miracles that was
his first thing. Yeah, I meant all his team's always underachieved.
Speaker 4 (22:35):
And then oh yeah, I thought because they were always
playing Nova, I guess, but they always losing.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
The look that he had a couple of good runs
seat and seating is the toughest job at the Big East.
Speaker 4 (22:44):
Do you think because he was do you think because
he was a Seating Hall that's why something feeling over.
Speaker 2 (22:47):
People were all? I think so Again, I don't know
who's making the decision. I think the ad is involved,
but I think the money guys are ultimately making it.
Somebody there has made the decision that he is the
more a comp plus of the two coaches, and you
could probably make that argument, but there's more to it
than that. I just don't think they know him. And
(23:09):
and again I've been around it. I got a sense
of who he is. I know people at Maryland who
know him. He's not He's not a bad guy. That's
not That's not the issue. But he's not particularly personable,
and where Richard Patino is a classic, he's a people
and to me, yeah, to me, there's no difference in coaching.
Richard Patino just got New Mexico to almost beat Michigan
(23:32):
State in round two. To me, that's a hell of
a lot better than what I what Weller did life
and death and screwed up the end game against Colorado.
Speaker 3 (23:42):
See, the worst part is he's going to is evil.
Speaker 4 (23:45):
And I said the same thing when Sean Miller went
his aving showing, for whatever reason.
Speaker 2 (23:49):
Didn't make it happen at Xavier. Okay whatever, Oh they
were competitive, they were, Yeah, but I hadn't gotten all
the way back. It wasn't that.
Speaker 4 (23:55):
Sean Miller, you know where if Richard Patino, let's say
we're having this conversation three years, Yeah, and they're doing
well whatever that means.
Speaker 2 (24:03):
And Villanova's kind of you know, there're and Xavier's every
bit as serious about basketball. I mean, they are very
serious about it.
Speaker 3 (24:13):
Would they've had agreed that would scare me.
Speaker 2 (24:15):
Yeah, they just haven't had the final four runs that
Villanova's had. They haven't had the national success that Villanova's had.
That's the difference. And the question is, is what Jay Wright did,
which will never be duplicated, is that even relevant anymore?
In today's society? People even remember who Jay Wright is.
You know, he's that guy on TV. You know what's relevant?
Speaker 4 (24:37):
I think I think he used to coach, right, I
kind of remember it was relevant.
Speaker 1 (24:43):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (24:43):
Now, and Villanova's got them Molly got money so they
can attract players. But the portal's been open since Monday.
They do not have a coach. Mike Nardi is coaching
a team that is going to go out and play
in the Crown next week for reasons. They're well in
Colorado for it. Well, so I can't wait to see
that game. So I can't. Yeah, the TV is gonna
(25:04):
become He's gonna break Curry Kittles be the all time
leading score at Balanova history because he got five years
and played in the Crown. Is that it's it's Is
that a single elimination? Think it is? So you're not
guaranteed you can go there and lose and come home. Yeah,
they could lose. I mean they played Colorado, I mean
Colorado finished last in a big twelve better win, but
(25:25):
you would help again.
Speaker 3 (25:27):
But yeah, they've been off for three weeks.
Speaker 2 (25:28):
Right, that tells you the kind of tournament as you're
playing a team to finish last, and there's Dion going
to be there. Dion is not going to be there.
He's at spring practice, damn. Or he just got a
contract extension with more money.
Speaker 4 (25:41):
Just what Dion's great bond thin this week was?
Speaker 2 (25:44):
I loved Dion.
Speaker 4 (25:45):
He wants to instead of playing spring games, he wants
to play called Nebraska. Yeah, we're gonna play in Nebraska twice.
Speaker 2 (25:52):
We're gonna that's her. I think that's brilliant. Like the
NFL team still Yeah, and.
Speaker 4 (25:55):
On the NFL teams say they get more out of
those things they playing exhibition games.
Speaker 2 (26:00):
Makes perfect sense. I would agree with that. All right.
So we got five games today, four NC games, and
I don't know what the spread is on a Roman
judge judge beat Roman and the judges judge might be
the slate favorite three or four points. Uh. You got
Mark Jackson's kids on one side for Roman. Oh, I
(26:20):
didn't know other star players for Roman. And then you
got remember oh, Mark, I when you first did I
for Mark Jackson, Mark Jackson to player Mark Jackson, guy?
And do you remember DJ Rivero played and he's just
his son is the star player at Judge.
Speaker 3 (26:36):
Uh So, Florida. Let's talk games.
Speaker 2 (26:39):
Google'll give out the spreads and we'll get to break
then we'll talk everything. We'll talk to Phillies. Also, oh,
Yukon women are winning the women's Florida minus seven over
Texas Tech. Uh that is at six o nine. That's
a one versus a three at eight forty nine. Also
TBS Duke minus seven over Alabama. Both these teams, actually
(27:05):
I've never seen this before. Both of them got one
point five points per possession Thursday nine, which you've never
seen insane. That's Villanova a hugely just ridiculous.
Speaker 3 (27:15):
Or Arizona put up ninety three on them.
Speaker 4 (27:17):
Right, yeah, yeah, they covered and lost. It's all you
gotta remember.
Speaker 2 (27:21):
He covered Houston minus three and a half tomorrow against
Tennessee and if anybody gets to sixty, they're a cinch.
Points will be hard to come by. One and a half. Yeah, yeah,
sixty is a big number in that game. Houston minus
three and a half over Tennessee. And in the finale
(27:41):
in Atlanta five pm, CBS Auburn minus five over tom
Izzo and Michigan State, and I think I said this
last week is I should go right back to the
Hall of Fame again. There is no way this team
should be in the Elite eight. But he found out
and he coached his butt off last I forget phenomenal.
Speaker 4 (28:01):
My friend called me their night and he's you know,
and this is the guy that about that how that
game ended last Yeah, Michigan State minus three and a half.
Speaker 2 (28:10):
They never had were ahead by the spread the whole
game until the end when they got up six, got
a and then like a thirty five foot three that
hits the back lands and dies. Talk about a bad feat.
Speaker 3 (28:21):
If States a good win, right, great?
Speaker 2 (28:25):
If you just Texas A and M deserved to cover,
and they had been the better team most of the game,
but that would have been a brutal beat either way.
Speaker 4 (28:31):
My friend calls me and he's like, do you like anything?
And I didn't really, but I said I liked the
Arkansas a little bit. And I even was going to
tell him to play Arkansas on the money line, which
would have killed me if I that coach col I love.
I like coach Cal. You can't blow an eleven point
lead for three and a half for four minutes or
(28:52):
whatever the hell it was, but whatever, I came and
but I looked and I saw that the Arizona Alabama
over on there was like one hundred and seventy six.
Speaker 2 (29:02):
So they said to my friend, said, look these two teams.
Speaker 4 (29:04):
School talking to Alabama Bay b what you Y'm sorry?
Oh yeah, And I said, but think about it. You
got to get into the mid to high eighties.
Speaker 2 (29:11):
Yep.
Speaker 3 (29:12):
And I said, I'm not telling you to bet it.
Speaker 2 (29:14):
It was close, so I know, so I'm at this.
I was at her the other night. One seventy five
was the numbers that here at bet Parks and they
were after four minutes. The number was one eighty three.
Speaker 5 (29:27):
Well Bama, Bama hit one hundred with like five minutes.
Oh yeah, I mean they easily could have put up
one hundred.
Speaker 2 (29:32):
Yeah. I was actually thinking, you know, I, Mike, I
was with you. I like the over as well.
Speaker 4 (29:36):
I was thinking we'll just take the oh no, And
I was actually thinking, maybe that's too many points.
Speaker 2 (29:42):
And I thought they were going way over yeah, both
and b way. You didn't even make any threes the
other night, but Alabama made up for it with twenty five.
I was thinking, once you give the one seventy five.
Then you know, after four minutes, it's like eighteen to eighteen, right, and.
Speaker 3 (29:57):
The number bet Parks got dropped out the one eighties three.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
I'm thinking take the under. You got yourself an eight
point middle, and of course they said that blue by that.
Speaker 3 (30:06):
Yeah, that's interesting, right, you got an eight point eight
point middle a lot right.
Speaker 2 (30:09):
As he loses the juice on one side, that's it
comes the other way.
Speaker 5 (30:13):
And it's funny to put it just sit there and
you don't really care what I put it. In perspective,
Bama put up one thirteen the other night and the
Tennessee Houston over unders one twenty three, right.
Speaker 2 (30:21):
Yeah, no, I mean you look twenty five threes. Yeah, yeah,
I mean I felt bad for the BYU coach because
Sears had come in. He was like six for his
lit recent thirty nine, six for thirty nine for three
and that night he couldn't miss. It's funny.
Speaker 4 (30:35):
So and I know we'll talk about this when we
get but it's gonna be really interesting because Bama gets Duke,
right I yep, okay, Well, and hey maybe it'll make
twenty five again.
Speaker 2 (30:44):
Yeah, I mean I will not.
Speaker 5 (30:45):
They will not make twenty five that Bama defense, Cooper
Flag is gonna have like forty yeah.
Speaker 2 (30:51):
Yeah, this is like this is like football and reverse.
Speaker 4 (30:54):
Yeah, like if Bama were playing Duke in football, you know,
but it's now the Cooper.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
Hey, how good is Cooper Flag?
Speaker 3 (31:00):
Cooper? He's pretty good. You think he's gonna get drafted?
Speaker 2 (31:03):
You know who?
Speaker 3 (31:04):
He reminds a franchise? Tell me if I don't know good.
Speaker 2 (31:07):
He reminds me of Luca.
Speaker 3 (31:11):
I think he's a way better athlete.
Speaker 2 (31:13):
No, no, no, no.
Speaker 4 (31:14):
What I'm saying is, though he's a tall guy who
can pass, who can shoot, who can do.
Speaker 2 (31:22):
Well better. Well, yeah, place I played better defense than
Luca is a fair comparison. I mean there's something like
I would say on offense maybe, but he's such a
much better athlete. I mean he can go un I
agree with you, and block shots and he steals he does.
I'm trying to think of like some player did he
kind of like, there's nobody that's obvious to me. He's
(31:44):
kind of a unicorn. There's really nobody that does. And
he's from the state of Maine, of all places. There
was there was a song on him.
Speaker 4 (31:52):
I was watching the other night was showing him in
Maine and everything and the passes he and then he
went to what montvere cat in montverg in Florida.
Speaker 2 (32:00):
Where his teammates were Derrek Queen uh McNeely at Connecticut,
Rob Wright, the kid from Newman Gretty was a point
guard at Baylor, and a starter's name I can't remember it, Georgia.
Speaker 4 (32:12):
And did nice high school. Anybody see the two plays
that mister who's the guy on Denver Joker?
Speaker 2 (32:18):
Oh my god?
Speaker 3 (32:21):
Did you see the Shotty made?
Speaker 2 (32:22):
Last thing? Yeah? I did not, Oh my god. He
he took like it was three. He took like a dribboard. Nothing.
It was Mike, this is not a this is not
a visual medium.
Speaker 1 (32:35):
Here.
Speaker 2 (32:36):
Mike was showing me what showing the fans what do
you do?
Speaker 5 (32:39):
But if you saw he's a half quarter the other night,
it was further than that, and it.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
Was what was Lebron doing on the inbounds? Good question?
Speaker 4 (32:48):
Making a stupid play? The first thing you do when
you never throw the corner? Well yeah that that and
if you are don't telegraph it, you don't.
Speaker 2 (32:56):
Throw a bouts pass, and and you don't even do
anything except you pay the ball up. You don't even
go out of bound. Can you start looking down the can?
Speaker 3 (33:04):
Can't he run that play? The guys like playing basketball
for his whole life?
Speaker 2 (33:09):
What do you think?
Speaker 3 (33:09):
It was a senile movement real quick after he'd missed.
Speaker 2 (33:13):
Did anybody switch?
Speaker 3 (33:15):
Did anybody see Curry shot this.
Speaker 2 (33:16):
Week from the all the end of the court. That
was pretty from the from the tunnel, it looked serious.
It looked like I can do that. He's a top
ten player. I've I've come to the conclusion he went
ahead of the rant on Mike, and I love the rant.
But I thought the Olympics was that's kind of sol
the Olympic finale when he went nuts and the last he.
Speaker 4 (33:38):
Liked that when he was when he was making news
twenty No. I mean, look, he has changed the sport.
All right, we'll be back to talking about all of the.
Speaker 2 (33:47):
Games to today, to tonight, to tomorrow afternoon. Philly's season
has started. The Flyers have fired their coach. Uh. I
haven't heard a lot about the Eagles lately, but but March,
you listen to sports here there everywhere?
Speaker 4 (34:07):
Which is worse the Sickers are the Flyers? Can I
ask that the Flyers are irrelevant. The second fire of
the Flyers, we never had hot right, and everybody understands
what they're trying to get. In the seventh pick boys,
I'm telling you the ping pong ball.

Speaker 3 (35:42):
Let's start tonight in San Francisco.
Speaker 4 (35:44):
If you guys liked the tournament so far, I mean, like,
I know, Dick, you've covered forty five.
Speaker 2 (35:50):
I've liked others better, but yeah, I.
Speaker 5 (35:52):
Liked others better better, But it's I mean, the last
two nights I've been fantastic.
Speaker 2 (35:58):
I mean, there's there's a lot of really good players.
Many of them you'll get to the city in the
NBA next year. So yeah, the final four next week
could be really good. You could be talking four number one.
But even if you know seeds or three, there's no.
Speaker 4 (36:12):
Bad Nobody knows anything about Tennessee because of the style
and they played, but they're really good now.
Speaker 6 (36:17):
They think they've been the most impressive. They they torched
Kentucky last night. I was in Kentucky was in a
bad spot. I was very impressed with that. I like
Kentucky again. I was shot what Tennessee did to him.
They didn't give him a shot in the game at all.
Speaker 4 (36:31):
You know what sports are have becolled in almost all sports.
How are you playing when it matters? Like Goldburn hasn't
been playing as well last night. He did last night
when it had to. But you know, we see it
in football. We see it like who's playing Eagles? Like
look at Ohio State and we left them for dead
right when they lost the Michigan Michigan game.
Speaker 3 (36:50):
They were like, by far the best team.
Speaker 2 (36:54):
And Notre Dame was the only team that he really
gave him a game. And that took a while. It
wasn't a game, or Oregon didn't give me a game,
thirty four to nothing. It was like the Super Bowl
thirty four.
Speaker 3 (37:05):
It was the superris it was the Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (37:07):
It's crazy. Oregon was Kansas City. It's weird, all right.
So in San Francisco tonight six o nine TBS Florida
minus seven over Texas Tech. This is the one seed
which pretty much handled Maryland. The other night, Texas Tech
was in a world of trouble. Down sixteen against Arkansas.
(37:28):
Down what it doesn't with four to go, eleven with
four to go. Somehow they make a three with under
ten seconds left in regulation, then they win in overtime.
Kyle will start with you. Florida thirty three and four,
SEC Champs, Texas Tech twenty eight and eight. So we're
(37:50):
talking to SEC versus the Big twelve, the two best conferences.
Coach Tech by far, Grant mccausin and really sharp. God
come then, he's just one of these guys that's been around.
It was a long time assistant. I want to say
he came most recently maybe from like North was that
where Beard was at before Beard got at Texas Tech
(38:11):
in the championship gamest Virginia. Then he went to Texas
that he had the problem with the girl that you
got fired at Texas and now he's an old miss
Where he gave Michigan State. I thought they haven't played
Michigan State most of the night, but Michigan State hasn't.
Speaker 4 (38:25):
I like that little guard they had, the little the kid,
the little white guard with the head man.
Speaker 2 (38:32):
Yeah, I liked him. He was on fire. Yeah, Sean Padula,
but he was from I saw him play a number
of times in Virginia. Tech State played them me. I
didn't even realize Sean was there until I don't.
Speaker 4 (38:44):
Know, why I don't ask you every single player. I
told him where was he at?
Speaker 2 (38:49):
Because they're all somewhere right now. Sean played four years
at Virginia Tech. Virginia Tech was a disaster this year
because all their good guys left. They had some good
players coming back. Uh, Florida minus seven of Texas Tech.
What do you think?
Speaker 5 (39:03):
Yeah, I mean, I think Texas Tech is was at
the point where it was a miracle they won that game. Yep,
They're at the point where they're just surviving. Florida's still
dominating and this is what we expected. One of their
star forwards, you know, was out most of the game
against Maryland. It didn't matter. I really like that Denzel
(39:24):
Aberdeen from Florida as well. He impressed me against Maryland.
I really like Florida here. I mean, Florida's is the
more dominant team. I think they cover the seven years.
Speaker 2 (39:34):
So Florida's on a roll. Their last loss was February
twenty fifth at Georgia. They won their last three of
the regular season, kind of breezed through the SEC tournament,
beat Alabama one O four eighty two in the SEMIS,
put up eighty six on Tennessee in the championship game,
(39:54):
which is serious business in Nashville. By the way, then
Norfolk State asked him a lot of questions. They had
the right answers. Uh, Maryland was hanging around. They were
never winning that game by sixteen.
Speaker 5 (40:07):
Well that's what bothers me too, talking about Maryland coaching.
I mean, they had, you know, Florida's forward Condon when
he was out, they had nobody down load that could
stop Derek Queen and the other forward, and they just
kept chucking up threes.
Speaker 2 (40:24):
I'm like, what are you doing? Yeah, it looked like
to me like Kevin Willard had one foot out the
door the whole game. There was nothing to like about
what was going on in that game. So Florida, they're
top ten in the country in offense and defense. Uh,
and that's usually a formula. There's a couple of teams
still a lot that are Texas. Texas offense is more
(40:44):
than good enough. The question is can they keep Florida
from putting up like eighty five or some huge number low? Yeah, yeah,
I think I think eighty is going to win the game.
If you get the eighty, you're probably gonna win. I
would take Texas Tech plus the seven only on the
theory that they can score. I will say this about
(41:07):
Florida now having seen them, and I watched them during
the year, but not as closely as the recent games. Damn. Look,
I love Waller Clayton Junior. He's terrific. I like a
couple of their other players. If they had a couple
of guys out there that are just guys, uh that
don't dazzle me. They're an upgrade over Michigan State's front line,
but not like overwhelming. So I think Texas Tech can
(41:30):
hang with him on the front line. So I'll take
the Red Raiders plus the seven.
Speaker 4 (41:33):
Mike, Yeah, I like Florida since like two months ago.
I reason not, Yeah, Well, I really like Auburn and
I said that txed Dick there day said maybe Duke
just wins the whole thing and they're the best team,
and we've been overlooking him, not overlook him.
Speaker 2 (41:50):
I don't mean that because they're Duke. You know.
Speaker 4 (41:53):
I hate laying seven. I just I just hate it,
and I kind of feel the same way Dick does.
But part of me just likes Florida and I'm thinking
they're not going to lose this game. I don't see
that happening. I hate betting teams were all. I'm hoping
that they cover, but I think I would lean. It's
a tough I really don't like eater side in this game,
(42:14):
but I think I would lean towards taking the seven
and kind of hoping.
Speaker 2 (42:18):
That they can hang in again.
Speaker 4 (42:19):
They I think, if you're Texas Tech, you should be
playing loose. You got nobody expects you to win this season.
And this is another team that I've liked. Texas Tech's
been good, sure most of the year in a tough league, right,
really good.
Speaker 2 (42:35):
Houston dominated. Yeah, Houston was the best team. Arizona gave
Duka hell of a game the other night. So yeah,
Big twelve. Yeah, Pig twelve has been the best league
in the country for years. It's not this year. Obviously,
the Sea is number one. Will Florida field the pressure?
I mean, I don't know they even felt pressure, felt
it against Yukon, that's true, And and look they were
fortunate at the win that game. If Yukon could have
(42:55):
made any open threes in the first half, they don't.
Speaker 3 (42:58):
Vote the referees screwed them, because that's what and.
Speaker 2 (43:00):
Hurley's hit, you hit that water Clayton Walter Clayton hit
a couple of three. That's what one they for me
that the thing about Florida is their guards.
Speaker 4 (43:08):
Their guards are just so good and if they're cooking
that Aberdeen was just cool. Colmon collective again, they have
an average game. I think Texas Tech has a shot.
Speaker 2 (43:17):
Because Maryland was trying.
Speaker 5 (43:19):
Maryland was in that game for for a while quite
a while, and then Florida just they didn't panic, They
kept their composer, played their game and eventually just warmed down.
Speaker 2 (43:28):
And Maryland has no bench at all, and it showed
bench points.
Speaker 3 (43:32):
For I think one of the guards got feil trouble too, Marriage.
Speaker 2 (43:36):
Twenty six nothing. Look at these number ones that are left.
Speaker 4 (43:41):
The thing that strikes me about all of them is
they can play mediocre for like a half yeah, and
then they have this It's like when they hit the accelerator.
Speaker 3 (43:50):
We saw Auburn do it. Yeah, We've seen Florida do it.
Speaker 4 (43:52):
We've seen Duke do it, although controlling games from most
of the game.
Speaker 2 (43:57):
Yeah, and Houston. We've seen Houston do it, and then
we've seen used to go the other way. Yeah. Yeah,
So I'd say that to me the team that's played
the best in the tournament. Duke, absolutely, yeah, that's the
second game tonight. What would Florida be the second best?
Probably yeah, And look, a championship team gave them a
(44:18):
hell of a game last Sunday and they found a
way to win it in the last five minutes. It
was impressive because I thought they were in trouble against you.
Speaker 4 (44:25):
And you know, you know what's funny, I think we
got spoiled the last years because Yukon flew everybody like
we never sat there and said, man, you kind of
didn't look that good.
Speaker 2 (44:34):
Like they know, they covered the spread thirteen straight times.
I'm louting the game they lost this year.
Speaker 4 (44:39):
I'm not even sure if Wooden's teams covered thirteen straight Yeah.
Speaker 2 (44:43):
I doubt anybody has, Mike, I mean, very unlikely, although
the al Cinder teams did.
Speaker 3 (44:48):
They rolled a lot of squads. They did do that.
Speaker 2 (44:53):
So Duke is also minus seven. Duke's profile and looked
it up to make sure I remember this correctly is
very similar to Villanova twenty eighteen. Wow, I think three
point percentage, two point percentage, free throw percentage top ten
in the first two and sixteenth in the other one,
(45:14):
so top twenty in all. So that tells you one
thing that they can really score. They put up an
insane number when they get one hundred the other night,
one hundred and ninety three against Arizona, and really they
had that game under control the whole way they I mean,
and it'd be frustrating if you gave the nine and
a half and you.
Speaker 4 (45:32):
Didn't cover, because dude, you're discovering the whole that could
be case like Florida Texas to actually win by six.
Been a lot of them that have happened where the
favorite has controlled the game in the in this tournament
and then they don't cover because the other team gets.
Speaker 2 (45:46):
It's amazing to me.
Speaker 4 (45:47):
And you watch more basketball than either dicause people think
of Duke is Cooper fly. He's great, there's no doubt, no, no, no, no, no, no.
What's the one guard they have? I had the game
the other night whet like seven of eight three or something. Now,
they're really good. They're really good. They're deep.
Speaker 2 (46:03):
John Shire has made a seamless transition from coach Gay.
How about that? I mean, they've been really good. Cooper
help him good, No, obviously, But the one thing this
is the best duke defensive team I've seen. That's what
I was shocked the other night that Arizona put up
ninety three Big kalib Love. They got the good Gala Glove.
He was awesome the other night when he was just
(46:24):
a freak show. And he's one of those guys you
don't guard him, you just hope he misses their night's
when he takes crazy shots. Now they're playing one of
the great offensive teams in modern history in Alabama. I mean,
they're just insane. And here's the hidden number on Alabama.
So they're thirty five and a half percent for threes,
which is fine, that's like top seventy five in the country.
(46:47):
They are number three in the country in two point percent.
Sixty percent they shoot on twos. So what that tells
you is that everybody's over playing the three point line.
And it's also somemilar to the really good Villanova teams.
They don't miss around the basket. And they got this kid,
Clifford Morey from Rutgers who is the perfect guy for them.
All he does is dunk, but that's okay.
Speaker 3 (47:06):
Because that's all you need with a high shooting right.
Speaker 2 (47:08):
He's not gonna miss because he's getting nothing but dunks.
So this is gonna come down to to me, o,
Alabama's not making twenty five threes? Can Duke? Can they
make sixteen? Can they keep them around ten or twelve?
If they keep him around ten or twelve, Alabama's defense
is not remotely good enough to keep Duke from scoring,
(47:29):
I would think in the mid eighties. And I think
it's gonna take like eighty five to win this game,
and the Duke is the more likely team to do that.
I'm gonna give the seven here. Alabama, can't you know
they're obviously not making twenty five threes. Again, if they do,
they're winning, They're going to the They're going to the
Final four. I like Ducaus. I think they're the more
(47:50):
well rounded team offense and defense. Mike, what do you
think You've got no shock?
Speaker 4 (47:54):
Because once again I think I'm gonna I'm gonna see
to me And I hate to say this about it
two seats because obviously you're it would shock me if
Bama won. This game's not cover because of the way
they play. And I can't believe that Duke is not
going to have a game plan too, and and again,
(48:14):
they're gonna have to They're gonna have to figure out
Cooper and then the guard and all this kind of stuff,
which I'm not sure Bama does that well. And at
the other end of the court, No, their defense is
not good, and I think Duke.
Speaker 3 (48:25):
Will t I can see Duke shooting.
Speaker 4 (48:28):
I can see Duke putting up one of those fifty
shooting games, right. And again it's just this Duke team
to me, is going to get to the final for
it where they're gonna win it, you know, that's that's
a whole other whatever.
Speaker 2 (48:43):
But they're good.
Speaker 4 (48:45):
They got the player the I mean, you know how
many times has Duke been this good like recently? I
mean they had teams been bad with the player of
the year. I mean, this is probably there.
Speaker 2 (48:56):
This is their best team since the Zigon waight up
since and lost to clearly inferior Michigan State team in
twenty nineteen and DC in the final eight. There's no
way Michigan their last title over beating that their last
tight twenty fifteen correct with all the freshman scored all
the points the team.
Speaker 4 (49:11):
How about the jay Will Well, the jay Will team
should have lost, right because they.
Speaker 2 (49:14):
Nolan was beating him by twenty two points. In Yeah,
they beat Arizona. Look, I mean the best duke team
was the ninety nine Now they lost, they lost, right,
the ninety two team team and they came and they
came this close, right, I mean that losing. That was
a phenomenal team. They beat the Fab five in the
championship game by twenty they they ended up burning them
(49:36):
out of the gym. But that's the greatest duke team
of all. Uh, this team isn't like that because they
haven't been around and they had a senior Christian Lightner
have been in four final four years junior boss season,
Bobby sophomore freshman grand Hill. No, he played in ninety one,
did he? I don't think so.
Speaker 4 (49:54):
Yeah, he had to dunk against you NLV all right
from Bobby Hurley. Bobby Hurley, he was the difference. Here's
a difference, that's right.
Speaker 2 (50:01):
Grand Hill was in three final fours and almost one's.
Speaker 4 (50:05):
Last game was in ninety four, and sure that would
have been incredible, and they had no Arkinsall was way.
Speaker 2 (50:10):
Better, way better Scott in that game at all. Waffle
House all true stories. Uh god, what are you thinking?
Duke minus seven over Alabama.
Speaker 5 (50:21):
Yeah, it's weird because I'm confident that Duke wins this game,
because I do think they find a way to game
plan defensively against Bama. But I don't like laying that
many points in what's bound to be a shootout.
Speaker 2 (50:37):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (50:38):
So I'm gonna go with the scenario that Duke has
controlled this game most of the game, but Bama finds
a way to come.
Speaker 3 (50:47):
What's the over under the point seventy four and a half.
That's a lot.
Speaker 2 (50:51):
Yeah, so they're basically saying it's gonna take like eighty
five to win. Yeah, that's what they're probably.
Speaker 5 (50:56):
I see, like I see like a seven point win
by by Duke, But I know that's like, no.
Speaker 4 (51:01):
It scares me a little too. Maybe a backdoor cover
at the end. When the team shoots that well, like
twenty five, what do you do, Like, let's Saydy make twelve, right,
that's still a good night, of course.
Speaker 5 (51:13):
But and like Dick said, they they're two point percent
percent being sixty percent, they're not just relying on the three.
Speaker 3 (51:20):
But they might not shoot that high against Duke.
Speaker 2 (51:22):
Yeah, Duke has shot blockers, Yeah, all over the place.
They're gonna make a little tougher to score inside. But look,
they're gonna they're gonna play the three point line. And
looking up Duke's three point defense, it's fine, it's thirty
one percent. Now they haven't played anybody like Alabama. Alabama's
three point defense is thirty percent. That's thirteen to the cut.
That's a little surprising to maybe. I know, you're interesting match.
Speaker 4 (51:45):
The game is in newer where Duke is like twenty
eight and two or some absurd number. Well, it used
to be the Meadowlands. It was right up to Meadowlands,
right a couple exxs. So this is like their home.
I mean it will be a home game for Duke,
and they'll have a lot of Dukie fans there. There's
no there's Dukie fans every.
Speaker 2 (52:01):
Well, that's true, no doubt about that. So Mark Sears
is a star for Alabama. What do you have ten
threes the other night?
Speaker 3 (52:08):
That sounds right? Yeaher's fire the leading.
Speaker 2 (52:11):
He's the leading scorer active in college basketball over twenty
eight hundred points. I didn't realize that for the people.
Speaker 3 (52:18):
Do you know where Mark Sears started as college I
have no idea.
Speaker 2 (52:23):
I probably should Drake Ohio, you the Ohio, the Ohio, Ohio,
and then where do you go from there? It yep,
So he had a good run. Now, how does that
happen that nobody recruited him? I just don't I just
don't get you end up in Ohio, Morin, Murray State,
(52:44):
Murray State, Stephen State to me is Stephen Curry, david Yeah.
Speaker 4 (52:48):
But to me, Murray State and Davidson people make mistakes.
Step up from Ohio.
Speaker 2 (52:53):
You The difference is that they make mistakes now they
just I missed you the first time. Come on a million,
come on out of in theory.
Speaker 4 (53:01):
The way the rules are now, a kid could play
four years at four different schools and there's no penalties,
there's no nothing.
Speaker 2 (53:07):
There was a guy on Penn State's team two years ago.
Speaker 4 (53:11):
Five and five, but I was becuse of the pandemic though, right,
well you got a fifth you got a fifth year.
Speaker 2 (53:15):
But yeah, but you can do that for the rules.
That's correct. So you can go to Temple as a freshman.
Penn State is a south What was what was great
about that player is? I said, what's the deal? He says, well,
I wanted to see.
Speaker 5 (53:28):
Different parts of the country that I was gonna say
that that's a good travel system there.
Speaker 2 (53:32):
It is a great guy. I remember at Christmas he
wasn't going home. I want to say it lives somewhere
out on the West Coast. His mom was coming. They'd
never been to New York, so they were gonna spend
Christmas in New York. And that's before he wasn't making
any money. There was no nil wanted yet two years
ago compared to.
Speaker 3 (53:46):
That, you know, I'm gonna take my college career and
I'm just gonna travel.
Speaker 2 (53:49):
They transfer all his credits, Like when when he went
from what I mean, is.
Speaker 4 (53:55):
Anybody even going to school anymore? I have no Is
that even relevant? I mean, I assume you to stay eligible,
I guess. I mean I don't know, do you though?
Speaker 3 (54:04):
I mean, Cooper Flag doesn't have to be in class.
Speaker 2 (54:07):
My guess is Cooper Flag has taken his last class
at two. That would be my guest. Would they said
that one year?
Speaker 4 (54:13):
Remember Jamal Mashburn, So now we're going back like thirty
years and they were like, no, Jamal's leaving right, So
like why does.
Speaker 2 (54:18):
Jumat He's going a lot be attending class in the
second semester. Yeah, at Kentucky, at you kund he'll be
going to the NBA making lots of line.
Speaker 5 (54:27):
I heard Cooper Flag is not playing in this game
because he's flunking English.
Speaker 2 (54:33):
His GPA is not up to snuff, which brings up
a great story of pet State with Patrick Chambers was
the coach. They're playing in the NIT championship game in
twenty eighteen, and it's maybe two o'clock in the afternoon
and one of the people around the program says to
the coach, what time is study hall? And he looked
(54:55):
at them persistently, not today.
Speaker 4 (54:57):
Not to.
Speaker 2 (54:59):
Studying.
Speaker 3 (55:00):
Yeah, that's a story for another time. Best story, Dick
you've ever told.
Speaker 4 (55:04):
I think it comes to money, and I think is
that Tim Thomas, Hey, Tim, you know if you would
just apply yourself, yep, you could.
Speaker 2 (55:12):
I got one hundred million dollars doing it.
Speaker 4 (55:14):
And what is the answer to that? There is There
is no answer. And think about that. That was twenty
five years ago. If Tim were now he instead of
one hundred million.
Speaker 2 (55:21):
You'd probably be talking about billion two fifty. Tim Thomas,
when people don't remember, played one year at VLLNOV was
the number one recruit in the country, legendary high school player.
Same there was some question who was better him or
Kobe Bryant. The were seniors at the same time. Tim
play the year at Villanova, then had a long NBA
career but never really reached the potential because he just
was cruising through life. Made a hundred with the Sixers. Yeah,
(55:44):
and at one point one of his advisers said.
Speaker 3 (55:46):
Tim, just think if you really worked hard, he.
Speaker 2 (55:48):
Says, coach made a hundred million doing it by way. Yeah,
the coach said, I had no I had nothing to add.
Speaker 3 (55:54):
Why work harder when I'm making a hundred mili.
Speaker 2 (55:56):

Gambling problem one, ain't hundred Gambler, Dick Garadi, Mike Current,
Kyle Namaker here at the sports book at the Parks Casino,
the Bet Parks app golf this week, Mike, we are
in Houston and Scottie Shufflers at the league. What do
we got?
Speaker 4 (57:25):
Yeah, it's interesting. I won't go too much. We're two
weeks away from the Masters. Rory won two weeks ago
with the playoffs, so you're better players now. And Scotty
had the injury where he cut his hand on Christmas whatever,
cooking food.
Speaker 2 (57:40):
Uh Irish chef.
Speaker 4 (57:42):
Yeah, so he's he's you know, he really hasn't played
like Scott. I don't think he's won this year, actually
has not. But he's shot sixty three yesterday. So now
he's one up on Min Wu Lee and Taylor Peger.
Speaker 2 (57:55):
Menu lays the Australian and he's pretty good, good player.
Speaker 4 (57:58):
He's a young player, and Taylor Pender like horrible. Then
there's a bunch of other guys and you know some
of them maybe Nico at Trvera actually that he's he's
a young guy.
Speaker 3 (58:09):
Scotty's minus one twenty and I'm going to sit.
Speaker 4 (58:12):
Here and tell you now he's If you want to
bet him to finish in the top five, he's minus
eleven hundred. If you want to bet them to finish
in the top ten, he's minus four thousand.
Speaker 2 (58:19):
Yeah, I don't think. I don't know.
Speaker 4 (58:21):
I said if Scotty Scheffler does not finish in the
top four thousand, So I'm gonna see it now. So
Minwouli is six fifty ten or seven hundred at the
two thousand and five British Open. Yes, tiger Wood, and
this is the Tiger had won the Masters that year,
it almost won the US Open three to one, which
is very low at the Star four fourth tournament. Sure,
(58:43):
And I said to somebody, I said, you know, if
I was smart, which I'm not, bet the field, No,
you bet let fifty pounds on tagle at three to one.
So he goes out and you shoots like sixty five
or sixty six. He was one to three, and I Segrament,
how would you like to get three to one?
Speaker 2 (58:57):
There? Absolutely? And he ended up winning. You know, It's
like it was like me seven years ago when I
had justified forty to one in the Derby and he
went off at two to one. Right, but I mean
three on was that kind of stream one thing so
hard to find? Didn't sound like much but right, hey,
So I would say that this you do one of
two things. You bet Scottie at one minus.
Speaker 4 (59:19):
One, which essentially is even one, but it's golf, you know,
I mean the one, or any or another guy get
sixty four. But or if I guess if you don't
want to do that and you gotta bet something and
you bet min Wue, probably the.
Speaker 2 (59:35):
Tailor at seven.
Speaker 4 (59:36):
If I'm taking I would lean towards, which is probably
why Taylor is the better bet.
Speaker 2 (59:41):
And again you could get Rory at.
Speaker 3 (59:43):
Fifty five's far back.
Speaker 4 (59:46):
He's about six backs and you know what I mean,
he's getting ready for the Masters, and he might play
anybody played.
Speaker 2 (59:52):
Is there a tournament next week? Yeah, some people will play.
Speaker 3 (59:54):
They will like, I remember your guy had win from
last week in the top.
Speaker 2 (59:58):
Don't don't don't, don't, don't go there. No, I don't
know my guys missed the cut from the straight.
Speaker 4 (01:00:05):
But what I will say different guys that he missed
the cut again, he was the third betting favorite coming
into ray r Ai. He's young, he's a good player.
Al He's right, you missed the third betting favorite. He
was it not like he was like ninety to one
in MISSICU.
Speaker 2 (01:00:24):
So you're you're just a disaster. I'm not in a
good spot.
Speaker 4 (01:00:29):
So and I'm still third in the like your role,
people will start passing me. Nobody will have Scheffler this
week because they don't waste scheffler on a week I guess.
Speaker 3 (01:00:37):
But some guys had different philosophies, and.
Speaker 4 (01:00:40):
I don't know where they are next week. I'm maybe
somewhere in Texas. I think it might be a Texas text. Yes, okay,
because they sked you. So Phil Mickelson liked to play
the week before. Some people would are like Tiger would argue,
why if I'm playing the Texas Open, that's got nothing
to do with like the course I want to face.
Speaker 2 (01:00:58):
So it'll be interesting.
Speaker 4 (01:00:59):
A couple of good guys will probably play next week,
and then a couple of good guys will beat Augusta
on like Tuesday and Wednesday doing practice?
Speaker 2 (01:01:07):
How many? How many years did you do the Masters?
Twenty five straight?
Speaker 4 (01:01:11):
Twenty five straight years? First year was a loss a ball,
Last year was Jordan Speed. How about that Mike Current
I spent in four Tigers.
Speaker 2 (01:01:24):
Ninety seven being the legendary.
Speaker 4 (01:01:26):
No, the others weren't bad. Yeah, that was the the
Nike ball won in two thousand and five.
Speaker 2 (01:01:31):
That was pretty good.
Speaker 4 (01:01:33):
Lt Oh and by the way, yes, real quick, we
do have a tournament coming to Philadelphia in about five
weeks reaty day. It's called the Truest Uh I don't
whereas No, it's it's a Philly cricket because they took
over for Wells Fargas pa. Oh yeah, oh no, this
is a Big Day, Meaty Day, yardst Championship and Philadelphia
(01:01:54):
Cricket Well Fargo. And this is a big time event.
It's a twenty million dollar person. The reason they had
it's played Quail Hollow.
Speaker 2 (01:02:01):
North Carolina. Huh.
Speaker 4 (01:02:02):
They had to move it this year because the PGA
is at Quail Hollow the following week work.
Speaker 3 (01:02:07):
Uh, so they're only coming here for one year.
Speaker 4 (01:02:09):
Okay, but it's Philly Cricket's great.
Speaker 2 (01:02:13):
The last PGA Tour event was, uh the US.
Speaker 4 (01:02:17):
Open, No, no, no, no, remember eighteen or not? BMW
Championship ronomy Okay. Then there was one in Wilmington a
few years ago, which I don't know if that counts.
Speaker 3 (01:02:28):
And then Tigers where you followed Tiger.
Speaker 2 (01:02:30):
For like seventy two holes. Yeah, and I remember it well,
all right. In addition to the we got two more
games to get to tomorrow, which we'll get to in
a second. Roman Judge tonight, Mike, I know you're roady
for Judge Northeast.
Speaker 3 (01:02:45):
A lot of my friends, almost all my friends went
to Judge.
Speaker 2 (01:02:48):
Yeah. I was a linking guy. So what do we
think a Judge won the first Catholic League title in
years ninety eight it's never won a state title. It's
never even been into states because they could never get
there wasn't state titles back there, right, and they could
never even get in districts recently because the Prep and
Roman are in the same classification and they only take
it two, so they couldn't get anywhere. So Judges having
(01:03:09):
a phenomenon with DJ Rivera's son, correct, Derek Morton Rivera.
Speaker 4 (01:03:15):
Apparently the Grandmam goes to all the There was a
story in the Northeast Times.
Speaker 2 (01:03:19):
Yeah, your thoughts on this contest tonight.
Speaker 4 (01:03:22):
I have no clue, but I'm rooting for Judge, And
again I would think the line would Judge would probably
be a slight favorite. And the interesting theme is here
our man Tom McKenna, who was ted Ted Slarry was
the greatest high school writer ever at the Daily News
for like forty years and Tom McKenna was his stack guy,
a park nutman. He was a fixture, passed away last year.
(01:03:46):
And if you would have saw the turnout at his
little thing they did up here in Northeast for I mean,
fran Donfey was there, spoke, other people were there. Roman
put Tom's some kind of insignia with Tom's face or
on their jerseys, and which I thought was real because
he did a lot of stuff with Roman that.
Speaker 2 (01:04:04):
Was kind of an assistant coach. And but look, my.
Speaker 4 (01:04:08):
Only complaint with this is the game should beat the Palustero.
Speaker 2 (01:04:11):
Right, it's a it's at the Giant Center in Hershey
eight o'clock.
Speaker 4 (01:04:14):
They don't do it at the That's right, they don't
do it at Hershey Park Arena anymore.
Speaker 2 (01:04:18):
Center is the new rangea.
Speaker 4 (01:04:20):
I used to cover them in Hershey's Park on being
place where Wilt scored Oh gosh, way back in the day.
Speaker 2 (01:04:24):
All right, Kyle, what do you what are you like
Judge Roman.
Speaker 3 (01:04:28):
I'll go with Judge. All right, I'll ride with Mike
Current right current.
Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
The Judge won the Catholic League title against Rome and
a couple of weeks ago at the Poleustra. Both teams
are Roman. Obviously, he is in this game every year.
Chrismas Desby that return as the coach. I think Roman
had a big lead in that game. I could be wrong.
It was one of the games Judge was down a lot.
I know the Prep was the favorite to win the
Catholic League, and Judge annihilated him in the semifinals beat
(01:04:55):
him by like thirty just crushed him. I'm taking Judge
will make it unanimous. There's gonna be a.
Speaker 3 (01:05:01):
Preand news for judge, it's gonna.
Speaker 2 (01:05:02):
Be a parayed down on Rawn Street, either Ron Street
or Broad Street, one of the two. Roman for the
people that don't know, that's right? Is it broadened? Vine?
You are correct across from the old d N building
which is now the Cops Philadelphia Police Station. Uh. Also
today and then there were five, Mike, we have five
Derby preps left Florida Derby today Golf Stream Park. Remember
(01:05:27):
this name, Arkansas Derby. The sources run one time corner
Coopian trained by Baffort double b. I texted him, man
of the horse or in his first race? I said, Bob,
that was pretty damn impressive. I said, any chance he
can make the Derby? This is kind of tight. And
(01:05:50):
then he said that man, he's got a really good foundation.
I said, man, he'll be back at the Arkansas goes
by money, right, how much money?
Speaker 4 (01:05:56):
You?
Speaker 2 (01:05:57):
It goes by points? Oh? Points, you aren't points. If
he wins the races, he's in the dirty. What is
the best or the most important prep race there isn't
one that's more important? Okay, so Cornicopean. Next week three
more sand to the Derby or the derby favorite at
the moment will be running. Are you ready for the
(01:06:18):
name of this horse? Mike carn Journalism. How can that lose?
That's the name they gave the horse Journalism trained by
name Michael McCarthy's good buddy. They should have called it
Jay one or one? Was that his major? I don't
think so. He had nothing to do with the name.
What would his odds be now? Like journalism, he probably
(01:06:40):
like four or five to one win the Derby, maybe
even less. Also next Saturday at Keenland and Lexington we
have the Bluegrass Steaks and at Aqueduct, and this is
the least important of the preps, the Wood Memorial, which
has become like kind of an afterthought. Anyway. Is there
a female out there?
Speaker 4 (01:06:57):
Because sometimes you get winners in that the Oaks race
at Kentucky. I know you'll sometimes, yeah, come up with
somebody gives some nice horses.
Speaker 2 (01:07:05):
But yeah, yeah, nothing like twenty sixteen were let's put it.
Speaker 4 (01:07:11):
This is that the one you came when Daily News
Live you called us and said go over there.
Speaker 2 (01:07:15):
Yes, you can't.
Speaker 4 (01:07:16):
I looked at Barking, I said, Mike, I can I
go Catherine Sophia.
Speaker 2 (01:07:21):
You'll love this. It's like thirty minutes before the race cars. Yeah,
the day before the derby. And so you got any
and you like, I said, yeah, just go bet all
of your money on Catherine Sophia in the Kentucky Oaks.
And it was like she was like minded two. Yeah.
And all I know is the bag that I took
was a lot heavier when I came home. That's always
(01:07:41):
a good thing. In fact, I don't know if that
I've told this story, but I probably have. The day
before the Kentucky Oaks, We're at dinner and a place
called Jeff Ruby's, which is a famous.
Speaker 3 (01:07:52):
Steakhouse Jack Rubies, not Jack Rubins, Okay.
Speaker 2 (01:07:55):
Jeff Rubies. Uh, right down on the river, like a
block from the Ohio River in downtown Louisville. And the
dinner is hosted by none other than then Louisville coach
Rick Pattino. One of his guests is the now UCLA coach,
then Cincinnati coach. He was in attendance, Dana O'Neill was
(01:08:16):
in attendants Pat forty, and I was requested as a
special guest, and towards the end of the night, Patino says,
give me one horse all weekend. So I give him
Catherine Sophia. So I get a text from Fatino in
the morning he won more than you. Now, this is
the morning on the range. Yeah, don't bet yet, and
he goes. He texted me, he says, are you sure
(01:08:37):
she can go the distance? I sent him a text back,
I said, coach, you coach your team, I'll deal with Yeah,
and he I don't know how much he made. All
I know is I got a text from him when
I was getting on the plane Sunday and to your
my point, I said, I bet your bag is a
lot heavier than it was before. I said, I guess
it is. Coach. I remember you told me and he
(01:09:00):
the eight bets. He and his boys bet. You told
Ny actually have real money, which I don't. You told
me at the time. Whatever I won, I think Rick
won ten times. Yeah, yeah, I gave. I gave him
a fifty to one shot that you want us all
the money six years ago at Santa Nuda. I don't
know how much he made. Doors ran second one hundred
and thirty seven dollars.
Speaker 4 (01:09:19):
Does Badford have besides that? Who she told us that
might get inter He's got.
Speaker 2 (01:09:23):
He's got a horse in the Florida Derby Maticant Road
that I think has a chance. Yeah, and they all
have a couple of He's allowed back this year. They
backed him had Bob Is. They didn't want him back
last year because it was Derby one fifty and they
didn't want to take all the attention. So it'll be
Bafford And the other story is journalism. His trainer, uh
lives in out the Dina, which is one of the
(01:09:44):
towns that just got annihilated by the fires. It's right
next to Santanita Park in Arcadia, and most of the
houses in his neighborhood. I saw him when I was
out there on Super Bowl Sunday. Most of the houses
in the neighborhood are just gone. His house survived, and
he was there with a trainer friend of his with
hoses the day of the fires, and it looked like
(01:10:06):
they weren't gonna be able to save the house because
one of the trees in front of his house caught
on fire and the hoses stopped working, so he took buckets.
He had a swimming pool, bailed out the swimming pool.
That's how they put the fire out on the tree
and has saved his house. In NBC, I'm sure it's
going to be all over this before the derby. It'll
be it'll be a big story, assuming the horse makes it.
(01:10:27):
Journalism's amazing about the world we live in. Next set,
those those fires happened.
Speaker 3 (01:10:32):
Yes, they're not even in.
Speaker 2 (01:10:35):
The news anymore.
Speaker 4 (01:10:35):
Like these people are trying to deal with their lives
and this is going for years. It's like the fires
in the Hinda, you know, when I was going to Hawaii,
and it's just amazing. We're on to the next whatever,
the next tragedy is whatever, the next So he.
Speaker 5 (01:10:49):
Has people suffering from from North Carolina and absolutely yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:10:54):
So Michael has not been back in his house. God,
everything in his house nothing is salvad jibble. But that's
all insured because of the smoke damage and everything else
but the house itself.
Speaker 3 (01:11:06):
But there's no neighborhood. What do you go back to.
Speaker 2 (01:11:10):
It's just not good. And you can see his you
can see his neighborhood for the track. He was pointing
it to me when you know, again, I was at
their Super Bowl Sunday, and he was telling me the story.
It's crazy. A couple more games Houston minus three and
a half over Tennessee. You're talking about the number one
defense in the country and the number three defense in
(01:11:32):
the country. Number two is Saint John's. I don't I
don't know what happened to that. Actually I do know
what happened to that. It was not good. Here's the
little known fact on Houston. Where do they rank in
the country in three point percentage? Number one? They are
(01:11:54):
the best three point shooting team really the country. But
they don't take a lot of them, right, they don't
take a ton of them, but they're really good when
they do. Not Last night over quantity LJ. Crier was terrible.
Speaker 4 (01:12:06):
Well, they play such good defense if they don't necessarily
have to their twenty third and three point defense, you
rarely see this spread.
Speaker 2 (01:12:14):
Their nine percentage points better shooting and defending. That's a
that's a gigantic number, and that's one of the hidden something.
Speaker 5 (01:12:24):
You said, uh one, twenty three and a half this
score man, again, sixty is the target number.
Speaker 2 (01:12:32):
If you get to sixty, I'd say you got about
a ninety eight percent chance of winning Tennessee number three
in defense, totally locked up Kentucky after getting blitzed by
Kentucky twice during the regular season.
Speaker 3 (01:12:44):
Veteran team Tennessee was in this game last year.
Speaker 2 (01:12:47):
They lost to Purdue, gave a hell of a game
at Dalton connect went berserk. But Zach Eedy, I think
had forty it couldn't guard him. Houston as a had
control of the game against Gonzaga almost let it get away.
Add control the other night last night, for sure, and
(01:13:08):
I don't I did not like how they played defense
at all. I mean, they're trapping, double teaming Brayden Smith,
yet they kept giving them looks at passes. What are
you doing? Minus?
Speaker 4 (01:13:19):
And they've been here the last five years. Houston's been sixteen,
eight final fours. Yeah, they've been around. Michael's start with you,
Houston minus three and a half.
Speaker 2 (01:13:28):
Man.
Speaker 4 (01:13:29):
I mean, I'm almost tempted to try the over only
because I think somebody will get the sixty and again
that should get you around one twenty three. But again
it's I like. I like the coach at Tennessee. I've
always liked him. He's been around for forty years. I
mean he's but what Kelvin has done is just I'd
(01:13:49):
like Houston the whole time. So I'm not going to
go away from Houston because I would just feel stupid.
But I could see this game going almost either way,
and it could be an ugly game. It could be
gonna be and both teams like to play that way.
Speaker 2 (01:14:02):
Ye, so you know I'll stick with Houston. The key
to the over under is the officiating, Yeah, because these
are two teams that just beat the living hell out
of the opposition. If they're calling this tight and you're
into one to one early both both halves, then this
is going over. Yeah. So that that's the and and
and if you're into this, if you're watching the game,
(01:14:25):
have your bet Parks app sitting right next to you
for the live lines. If you can get a sense
early that there's a lot of fouls that are not
letting guys hold and grab and shove take the over, Yeah,
get on it because it's just sit there because it's
gonna move. It's gonna move.
Speaker 4 (01:14:39):
Don't you be ready? Don't you one team's going to
the line. Wouldn't that help you get over?
Speaker 2 (01:14:43):
That's my whole point. Oh I misunderstood, Now what I'm
saying is if a game is if the referees are
calling it very tight and calling a lot of guys,
I got you, I got you. You have your app
sitting right next to you, and hit the guy your thoughts.
Houston minus three and a half.
Speaker 5 (01:14:58):
Yeah, I mean with an over under of one twenty
three and a half and a three and a half
point spread, I think this should be closer to two
two or one, because I think it go either way.
With that being said, I'm gonna take the Tennessee money
line here.
Speaker 2 (01:15:13):
I like it. Plus one fifty.
Speaker 5 (01:15:14):
I think Tennessee's the more impressive team throughout this tournament
so far. Houston, I don't know what happened last night.
I mean, granted, they had a great play to win
that game, but I don't know if it should have
came down to that.
Speaker 2 (01:15:29):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:15:29):
Plus one fifty on a three and a half point
that's not big.
Speaker 2 (01:15:32):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:15:33):
I think Tennessee's been the better team in the tournament.
I'm gonna roll with Tennessee.
Speaker 2 (01:15:37):
Yeah. I think that's a fair statement. Both great defenses.
Tennessee's offense is better than people think. Here's what the number.
To me, here's the big difference number. I don't like
how Houston finishes around the basket. They're not great at it.
They're two point percentage, it's only forty eight and a
half percent, and they missed a lot last night. But
(01:15:58):
Houston is the numbernumber one three point shooting team in
the country. Tennessee is pretty average at thirty four percent. LJ.
Crier was terrible last night. But you know what was cool.
The one shot he had to make. He made it
the late three, the one from the wing. That was
the biggest shot of the game to me, obviously the
final shot, but it gave him a little working margin
(01:16:19):
the late I'm going to take Houston on the theory
that if anybody's going to make more threes at a
high percentage, it's the number one shooting team in the country.
So I'm going with the Cougar.
Speaker 3 (01:16:31):
I would be some minus three.
Speaker 4 (01:16:33):
I would be surprised if Houston wins this game by
more than like five or six.
Speaker 2 (01:16:38):
Would So that's kind of stupid for me to lay
three and a half, because no, I'm.
Speaker 4 (01:16:41):
Basically saying that Tennessee is going to be I just
can't see.
Speaker 3 (01:16:45):
You hard to see a lot of separation exactly exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:16:48):
Unless Tennessee has one of those days where they shoot
two for seventeen from three, which Houston can make teams
do on occasion, but I don't do that with a
lot of confidence. Final Game, five o'clock CBS. Auburn, great offense,
great defense, three point defense, tremendous under thirty percent, Michigan
(01:17:14):
State thirty one percent from three. But because it's zoh,
they only take thirty three percent of their shots from three.
That's three twenty nine in the country. And here's the
hidden value of Michigan State and why they've been able
to do what they've been able to do. They're thirty
and six. Now, yeah, they stink, they can't shoot. They
(01:17:37):
hold teams to twenty eight percent from three, so it
mitigates the fact that they stink. They make their opponents
state and whether they can do that against Auburn, I
don't know. Auburn is minus five. Auburn has the skill
that Michigan State lacks. They have the perimeter skill. Other
than Jason Richardson, who's.
Speaker 3 (01:17:56):
They were the best team in to coachy most of
the year.
Speaker 2 (01:17:58):
Correct, that's right. And last night when Michigan was out
playing them pretty dramatically at a nine point lead. It
was just like the switch flipped and they just ran
Michigan out. They went. They were down by nine and
one by thirteen. That's a twenty two point difference over
a team that had been playing great. They defended, they
(01:18:21):
scored at will, they made threes. But I've been playing
against Michigan State the whole season again, Izzo should be
They should make another statue of him. I don't know
if they have one out there or not yet, but
this is incredible that he's gotten this team to this spot.
They're big men. Stick at Michigan. They just stick, but
they do all the little things. They make layups, they
(01:18:44):
set great screens, They're always in the right place. Auburn's
just a better team. I'm giving five. I don't care
about any of the other stuff. Auburn is just better.
And it's not close. Mike.
Speaker 4 (01:18:56):
Look Auburn, if you'd asked me just two months ago,
they were my team that before they were became number
one or before any of That's something Michigan State. And
I've said this before and I told you their temple
from John Chad only better. They're They're a temple with
the you know, they go to the boards, they crash
the boards, they play defense, they never look good. I'm
(01:19:18):
going to go against my green. I'm gonna take Michigan
State in the five. I don't know if they can
win the game. If they do, Izo shouldn't even go
to the final four. You should just say that's it.
Pronounce it was nice, Sickory. But again, when Auburn plays,
and there's a lot of good teams left in this tournament,
and they played last night, when they play, I think
(01:19:41):
they are maybe the best team.
Speaker 2 (01:19:44):
I know.
Speaker 4 (01:19:44):
You can make the argument for Duke, you can make
the argument for Fla, you can make the argument.
Speaker 2 (01:19:47):
For all of them. Really, but Auburn.
Speaker 4 (01:19:50):
When Auburn is Auburn, they're just and will they be
I have a feeling that ISO is going to do something.
Don't know what it is to keep that game close.
Speaker 2 (01:20:02):
Yeah, I just I think Jays Richardson is the only
guy at the United State that would get any time,
not necessarily start, but would even get into the game. Again,
it's a tribute to Izzo and the coaching staff what
they've been able to do. Kyle, what do you think?
Speaker 5 (01:20:17):
Yeah, I mean, this is probably the toughest game for
me to pick here. So with that being said, I'm
gonna break the tie here in favor of Dick. Auburn's
been the better team all year. They've been one of
the best teams all year. They have more talent.
Speaker 4 (01:20:33):
Alburn should win this game, yet, to be honest, by
double digits, Yeah they should.
Speaker 5 (01:20:38):
I think again, if they show up like they did
in the second half the other night, they're just the
better team. They have better players, and for that reason,
I'm I'm gonna give.
Speaker 4 (01:20:46):
The if let's say Auburn gets up eat in the
middle of first half, is Michigan State come.
Speaker 2 (01:20:53):
Back and that they've come back all year's team though, Yeah, well, yeah,
this is a different caliber opponent, but their secret formula
all year has been second halfs because they played ten
you know, they're all kind of interchangeable. Because again, other
than Richardson, they're all just kind of rollers for the
most part.
Speaker 3 (01:21:11):
Not a fun offensive team to watch, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (01:21:13):
They're not. And and look there, their best offense is
either a the missshot or the fast break. I mean
they run that sideline fast break. I mean they've they've
made a Rizzo's made a career out of it. But
it's harder to run when you're taking the ball out
of the basket. Jan I Broom is a funny player.
I mean, to me, he's not an NBA player. When
I watch him play, he's kind of a is a
(01:21:34):
really good college player. He is not a dominant athlete.
I mean the dominant athlete tomorrow tomorrow is gonna be
his kid going car for Michigan State, who was one
of the freak dunkers of all time. But to me,
I don't know that he's an NBA player either because
he can't shoot outside. Richardson is probably gonna come out
to this show, but he's an NBA play. I mean,
he gets you can tell he's got he's got something
(01:21:55):
going for him. He's rising up draft boards. But Auburn
has a lot of other really talented players, so uh,
we'll go with Auburn. I would voting a little bit
for Michigan State. Are good friend Dana O'Neil's son Karen
as a manager at Michigan State, so.
Speaker 3 (01:22:11):
I would down there.
Speaker 4 (01:22:13):
Losing to tom Izzo can never be you know, but
I think Bruce Parrow has to win this game.
Speaker 2 (01:22:19):
I really do. I mean Bruce's team. I'm not saying
you should win.
Speaker 4 (01:22:24):
I'm not saying should win the whole thing because it
gonna be other, but was the best team up until
the last two weeks of the regular season.
Speaker 3 (01:22:31):
The lost those three games. Everybody's sitting there going huh like.
Speaker 2 (01:22:34):
And for the people that are looking at those who
want to look ahead, it's East versus Midwest. If the
Seeds haled, it'd be Houston against Duke, and that if
the Seeds hauled Florida against Auburn next Saturday.
Speaker 4 (01:22:45):
That's probably well, I know it's a rematch. He must
have played each other at least once. Yeah, what's that first?
All four number one since two thousand. That's the only
time it ever happened since they went to That's crazy,
But anyway, it's hard to do.
Speaker 2 (01:23:00):
It's it's South versus West because that's the number one
overall versus the number four overall, and then the two
and three.
Speaker 4 (01:23:08):
The year of Villanova one in eighty five, there was
three number ones in Villanova. You had Memphis, Georgetown, Saint
John's and Nova eight.
Speaker 2 (01:23:17):
Number eight Villa.
Speaker 4 (01:23:18):
Who beat Michigan I think was the one in their
bracket and they beat them in the city.
Speaker 3 (01:23:22):
It would have been Yeah, they beat them in the
second round.
Speaker 2 (01:23:25):

relevant to anything the Sixers. We'll talk about all of it.

Problem Morning under Gambler Dictarati, Mike Kern, Kyle Nunnemaker. I
did have one other basketball thought on the tournament before
we get to it again. I don't know, Kyle. You
were up, I was up, and I sent Mike to
play this morning. I hope everybody's seeing the baseline in
(01:25:13):
bounds play that Houston ran at the end of the game,
and it was fascinating because it was pretty clear that
Purdue had scouted the first option on the play. Because
if you watch it, and they'll play it a million
times between now and tomorrow. Braden Smith is on the
ball and it looks like he counts to about two
and then he runs to his right to cut off
(01:25:34):
that the guy was coming to the dump the ball
right he was under the back, well, he was under
the basket and he ran across the right, across the
lane to go to the other side because they had
screened off looked like the guy that was the first option.
The problem was when he did that, they now have
nobody on the ball. Yep, and there was another option.
(01:25:56):
They threw it in to the postman who had set
the screen. And then he did something you never see anymore,
and it's so smart. He threw a bounce pass. What
does a bounce pass do? It means when you catch it,
you're going up with your shooting motion because the balls
heading upward through a bounce back.
Speaker 3 (01:26:14):
He was open for the reasons like, well he couldn't.
Speaker 2 (01:26:16):
Well, the inbounder was open because Smith left No, no, no,
I think the guy that he threw it to was
pretty open. Yeah, he was open because what happened there.
He set the screen and they forgot about the screener,
which they often do. And then Purdue, they had one
of their players was guarding no. One at the top
of the kid or brand the free.
Speaker 4 (01:26:35):
Throwunder did he got his two feet If he doesn't
do that yet.
Speaker 2 (01:26:42):
He got was a kid who's on who made all
the threes. He was the star player for Houston. Then
he just drops it in with.
Speaker 3 (01:26:51):
I think they should have ran the same play the Lakers, and.
Speaker 2 (01:26:53):
Then then my man laughed. I love Steve Lapis is
the color guy for CBS on this game, and Stevens
he was just like this as a coach, he's too excitable.
As an analyst, he loses track of what's going on.
Like he says, as they're ready to don't bounce the ball, Purdue,
And for the life of me, I don't know why
the referees sit there and look at the clock. They
(01:27:14):
gave Purdue a chance to set something up, but truly
wasn't fair to Houston. Lap says, well, the only thing
you can't do is foul, And then fortunately Andy Catalog
was there and said, laugh, they actually have a foul
to get. You want to foul there, if the ball's
up in the air, just run over your guy and
the clock will run out. But lap was just like, okay,
but that's laugh. That's why that's why I love him.
(01:27:35):
He's just not quite as sure and that's kind of
how he coached. Like it was zero on fire. But good, good, dude,
one of my favorite people. Got to know in basketball,
when you have a foul to give.
Speaker 4 (01:27:45):
I saw that at the Temple Umask game and that
when they had a foul to give, didn't yeh.
Speaker 2 (01:27:52):
And Mike Williams banked it in. Yeah, that's Maryland Bumas
blew the game last Sunday night because they had a
foul to give. That's why my man is apparently being
offered to Villanova. Cha, I'm Kevin Willard. Stare up by two.
They have the better team against Colorado State. They have
a foul. Again, there's two things you can't do. One
(01:28:14):
don't not take the foul and two do not give
up an open three. They did both, and then Derek
Queen bailed them out. And they gave Derek Queen the
ball on the wrong side of the court instead of
going to his strong right and he's on the left
side where he's made an incredible shot.
Speaker 4 (01:28:30):
Glands somehow convinces new Villanova head coat him to stay.
And I'm assuming if there's some of the things he
said that might be difficult, I would think so. But okay,
let's say somehow they do. What's Villanova gonna do exactly?
And my second thought is, I'm not sure from everything
you've said that this is the right way to go
(01:28:52):
as opposed to the guy who's now Xavier. But again
that's them making the decision, not me. They could be
but again we're would Villanova turn at that point while
they're in a.
Speaker 2 (01:29:03):
Game of musical chairs and the music stopped and nobody
sat down, that's their problem. I mean, I'm wondering if
they have a plan B. They don't, there's no plan B.
Or are they gonna what are they gonna call it?
What are you gonna call Arizona and have Tommy Lloyd called?
Wasn't Moser? Wasn't the guy Porter? Mo? I guess they
could still call Porter, but uh, I don't know. To me,
(01:29:25):
I would take the guy that wants the job, and
that was Richard. Yeah, he wanted the job, you know,
he wanted Villanova head and Xavior. It's a it's a
better job in my opinion, not dramatically better, but better. Crazy,
Uh phillies want to know? First place? First place? Tie
(01:29:49):
Wheeler amazing as always in the opener, how Gonna strike out?
Speaker 3 (01:29:52):
As nineteen nineteen nineteen, k's for the boys?
Speaker 2 (01:29:56):
Everybody in the lineup, Kate, at least once some met
the new stuff.
Speaker 4 (01:30:00):
Yes, are there people out there who are actually root
for this team, who think that's going to change. Do
we really think that the approach at the plate that
they've had for all these years.
Speaker 5 (01:30:12):
I'm just saying, they have so many swings and missus.
Speaker 4 (01:30:16):
And the only time it's going to matter is it
October if they do it for two or three games
in a row in a series, where then you sit
there and go, my god, like, and I don't know.
I don't have the answer, because we're not in October.
You know, they're gonna win a lot of games. They
won ninety five game last year. They're going to win
(01:30:37):
somewhere in the nineties in all likelihood. And again, what
that gets you, I don't know.
Speaker 5 (01:30:46):
Jesus, Lizard, the new guy, you gotta lay, I think
what like laying one fifty Kyle if you want one
sixty seven?
Speaker 2 (01:30:57):
I can't let that.
Speaker 4 (01:31:00):
He's not the number two guys. Well, they want to
go right, he left, Yes, that's part. So I guess
no one's pitching the next game. And then Sanchezo pitched
the fourth game. Well, they got the Dodgers coming up right.
Speaker 3 (01:31:12):
Pretty soon? The Dodgers. The Dodgers.
Speaker 2 (01:31:14):
Are they undefeated Dodgers? Yeah, are they still undefeated. I
believe they may be undefeated in September.
Speaker 5 (01:31:20):
Yeah, they got They open up against the Rockies and
then and then they played the Dodgers.
Speaker 2 (01:31:25):
Rockies, So the Dodgers are next weekend.
Speaker 4 (01:31:28):
Yes, so the dated I'm going to the Sixers game,
the Dodgers will be playing across the streets.
Speaker 2 (01:31:33):
No parking for Jesus.
Speaker 5 (01:31:37):
At the Wells Fargo though, show Hey is only going
to be across the street, all right, so they you
can watch Jeff go to Phillists tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (01:31:46):
Rockies on Monday in the home opener at.
Speaker 3 (01:31:48):
Three oh five. Rockies have stunked forever.
Speaker 2 (01:31:50):
Yeah, yeah, they're not good.
Speaker 3 (01:31:52):
Uh, Phillies can get off to a good start here.
Speaker 4 (01:31:55):
But again, if they lose, like if the Dodgers come.
Speaker 2 (01:31:58):
In here and beat them two or three or whatever
seasons the same next week, I want to.
Speaker 4 (01:32:05):
Say an it's a night game, like a so six
four five star for the Phillies.
Speaker 3 (01:32:11):
They'll be letting out at the time I'm getting there.
Speaker 2 (01:32:14):
You know you won't be able to get there because
you're traffic. You're yeah, you're total, You're done.
Speaker 5 (01:32:20):
You just leave now, or go to the Phillies game
and then walk across the street to the sea.
Speaker 2 (01:32:25):
Yeah, I met that, Mike do a double.
Speaker 4 (01:32:28):
Come on, man, I don't know if I could get
tickets for the UH for the Dodgers, I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:32:31):
Oh, Scott Palmer, he'll take care. He's my man, he
always say so. So what are we thinking on the Phillies, Kyle?
Are you Are you into this yet or you just
need a little time to get good.
Speaker 3 (01:32:42):
I mean, obviously we need a little bit of time.
You know.
Speaker 5 (01:32:47):
You know what you're getting at this point from this
Phillies team. They're gonna win games. They're gonna win ninety
plus games, and then, like Mike said, you see if
they can overcome their flaws in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (01:32:58):
The numbers ninety one or not one and halfway.
Speaker 4 (01:33:00):
To take the Phillies out because they do play the
Braves in the Mets.
Speaker 5 (01:33:03):
Yeah, but they also played in Nats and well, the
Braves are rowing too though, so they're done, they're out.
Speaker 4 (01:33:08):
The Braves don't get the Strider back till the end
of the month. Yeah, they don't get Accuneia back to
the middle of May or whatever. And so I think
the Phillies could be better than the Braves at least
in the regular season. You can break this down every
which way.
Speaker 5 (01:33:21):
It's gonna come down to the playoffs and if their
bats get cold again then it's gonna be the same
old song and dance. Or if they get hot at
the right time, then so be it. But I see
it going the negative way because they never really added
a difference maker, and the teams another year older.
Speaker 2 (01:33:41):
This team's not young, and there will be pressure, yeah, definitely,
absolutely pressure. And yeah, look the one two years ago,
three years ago, I got Houston Uston was a better team. Fine, yeah,
but they still scored three rounds, right, But the one
two years ago is the Diamondbacks one. Just you know
what the world two years ago was, sir. It was
a sixers against Atlanta exactly.
Speaker 5 (01:34:00):
It was you can't lose the last two and against
the inferior team.
Speaker 2 (01:34:05):
Pathetic, but they scored three one. No, it was not
not good. We're not gonna talking about the Flyers. Were
just wish Keith Jones all the best because we love Keith,
but they're always mau factor. How about this, Mike Current
the final eight in n c A a hockey Penn
state too. We have a local squad in it. Tomorrow
(01:34:26):
in Allentown. The Allentown reason. Penn State you got, Marcus,
that's that's your mess. Uh you got and they're good
in hockey too. What what can I tell you? It's
Penn State's hot. They beat upset Maine last night five
to one.
Speaker 4 (01:34:42):
There's a Toledo Regional for the hockey. Because I called
my friend though, but I said, you get.
Speaker 2 (01:34:47):
So we have Manchester to Amster, Denver against Boston College
the Frozen four Frozen four which is where?
Speaker 5 (01:34:54):
Who can tell me whether frozen Indianapolis incorrect, Minnesota incorrect?
Speaker 2 (01:35:00):
In Denmark Greenland? Uh? That's that's a state now, isn't it?
It is fifty second? God, it is fifty one Cornell
Boston You in uh Toledo to your Yeah, UMass Western
Michigan and Fargo that Margo, that makes sense? Where where's
(01:35:21):
the final at? Where's Saint Louis? Oh? That's Vergh Boston
College frozen for where Penn State's never been. They've never
been there and they have not. They got a great
hockey arena, the Pagola Arena. The guy that the guy
gave them like he gave him all the money. The bill, Yeah,
among other things and his daughters just won the major. Stephanie, Yeah,
(01:35:42):
she won a major. Yes, I think the Australian Opened.
Speaker 4 (01:35:46):
Really oh yeah, sure enough, I'm almost Yeah, she won
because she was in the.
Speaker 3 (01:35:52):
Let me see, she's like thirty years old. It was
it was like.
Speaker 2 (01:35:56):
Fargo, Stephanie. Let's see if she wanted that, if she
wanted Jessica, I'm sorry, Jessica, Yeah, American tennis player. I
don't think she's one to make.
Speaker 3 (01:36:06):
No, I'm telling you, I just I just watched.
Speaker 2 (01:36:08):
You're buying that. I'm career titles seven, go ahead. Australian
Open quarterfinals the best. Now, she's never US Open. She
made the finals, did not win.
Speaker 4 (01:36:20):
I'm two thousand, Okay, I got because I know I
watched the thing where she won and he but again,
maybe I'm wrong, but I think you're wrong. Okay, but
maybe it was doubles because they've been watched doubles.
Speaker 2 (01:36:32):
Right. Anyway, Penn State into the final eight against Yukon,
and the good news is it's not basketball. Sorry, I'll
jess uh. Actually it would be a great news if
they were ready to final eight basketball. That'd be awesome.
But anyway, all the best to guy Gadeskid his squad
and home game for pett State tomorrow and Allentown against Yuko.
That's awesome, all right, I have to do it. You
(01:36:57):
hit me with it.
Speaker 5 (01:36:58):
We gotta end on this note.
Speaker 3 (01:37:02):
The boys are struggling. Which boys? The boys? The Flyers
are struggling.
Speaker 2 (01:37:07):
Since twenty ten, twenty three and fifty Wow, the Sixers.
Wasn't the record supposed to be fifteen twenty three? Yes,
the good news is well, not really. They're a half
game ahead of Brooklyn, which is twenty three and fifty one.
It's a race to the bottom. Brooklyn trying each has
lost six in a row and nine of ten. Tyrese
Maxey is out this weekend. By the way, he is
(01:37:28):
not coming. So Charlotte, Washington, New Orleans, and Utah are
the bottom four. So the Sixers have basically locked up
a top bottom six position. It's question whether they're gonna
be five or six. Then the ping pong balls could
get right. Then it's about you'll get that amount of
ping pong balls, and then that determines where you actually
(01:37:50):
get the pick. Where the Cooper Flags sweepstakes is ongoing. Mike.
Every once in a while, Sean, you'll love this too.
Sean's are NBA expert on this show? Let me watching
them while Michael text me about the Sixers, and I'm going,
I can't believe you're still watching the game.
Speaker 4 (01:38:07):
So I'll I'll see like a number or something, and
I'll be like, you know, I haven't watched.
Speaker 2 (01:38:12):
The game in weeks. You're not missing much. The last
game I watched was the Houston game. Yeah, you'll love
this story. So my younger son decides, for reasons not
only to himself, that he's gonna bet the Sixers. I
think they were like twenty to one at some point
in the game. I don't remember exactly, but anyway, he
got a huge number on Oh no, it was a
(01:38:33):
free bet, kay, just open up an account. Two hundred
and fifty dollars free bet. That's why he give you freewat.
So he put the Sixers at twenty to one to
win the game. What do you think? And they're winning
the game the whole way. I mean, they are winning
the game. And at one point he says, should I
take Houston the other way? I said absolutely yeah. I said,
you're guarantee you to win. You can't lose. So he
(01:38:55):
took Houston on the money line when they were like,
I don't like two to one. I think because they
were down by ten. Sixers are up ten with like
four minutes to go. Yeah, it was only a matter
of times. It was like last week, you know this,
last week, the week before, and and the six Ers
they have the game one.
Speaker 3 (01:39:11):
Like over and over. Then finally they're up by three.
Speaker 2 (01:39:16):
There was a kid that went not Grimes went crazy,
had like forty you got a hundred points. The guy
was not unreal. So they're up three with like five
seconds left. They take a foul, which is what you're
supposed to do. Juston makes the first miss, is the
second on purpose? Sageine is that the guy they're big guy.
Yeah at Sagoony he takes whoever the Sixers inside guy.
(01:39:38):
He just takes them and shoves them, just shoves them
under the baseline. No call tips it. In overtime, I said,
you're screwed, and and he would have won a lot
more with the Sixers. Just brutal. They played, They played
their hearts at they played. They were actually trying to win.
Speaker 5 (01:39:56):
Yeah, they need to not play Grimes because he plays
too well.
Speaker 2 (01:39:59):
Yeah, he's got you're gonna bring me good news though.
Speaker 5 (01:40:01):
The Nets are playing the Wizards today so they could
win that. You think the Wizards are hot, you're coming
off a high on.
Speaker 4 (01:40:10):
That Madison Keys that won the Australian Open. She was
like another the Google made the fine the final. I look,
if i'm the Sixers and I know you can't do
this and you're not the you can't tell the guy
why would you bring Maxie back? And I understand, Look Maxie,
you can't say to Maxie, hey don't they don't try.
It's not what he's about. But my gosh, you got
(01:40:33):
a thin chance. You're probably going to finish sixth. You
could finish fifth worst, but you're probably going to the
Nets are probably going to out thank you. Yeah, okay,
that means one takes one ping pong.
Speaker 2 (01:40:46):
Ball to screw you and the chances are very good.
Speaker 5 (01:40:49):
There's absolutely one ping reason to bring Maxie. It makes
no sense. But then what do the Sixers do that
does make sense?
Speaker 2 (01:40:56):
What are you bringing him back for?
Speaker 4 (01:40:58):
This is what I don't understand some reps.
Speaker 2 (01:41:02):
I'm not blood flowing.
Speaker 4 (01:41:03):
If I'm tyreech Maxie, I should go to my guys
and say, you know what, just I'm done. Yeah, we'll
just we'll just come back and we'll try to do
it better.
Speaker 2 (01:41:11):
There's nine games left.
Speaker 3 (01:41:15):
I said this two months ago.
Speaker 4 (01:41:17):
They were going to finish sixth and ping pong, they're
gonna end up seven and okay, he's going to pick seven.
Speaker 5 (01:41:22):
Yeah, but it doesn't matter because they're all gonna come
back extremely healthy next year.
Speaker 2 (01:41:26):
And what do you do if you're them?
Speaker 4 (01:41:29):
No, I'm serious. You have two contracts, somebody said the guys.
When I talk with Robin, I said, well, you know,
you got to find a team that that would take
him for the for their problem. I said, so you're
getting their problem. Like, so you're getting rid of Paul George.
Who's going to take Paul George? What are they giving
you in return for Paul George? I don't even have
the faintest idea.
Speaker 2 (01:41:49):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:41:49):
I was impressed with Paul George this year.
Speaker 2 (01:41:54):
Talk about me.
Speaker 4 (01:41:55):
And again, the injuries had a large, large part to
do it. But you couldn't sit there a few the
sixers and in October and say, well, I think we're
gonna be pretty injury free. Yeah, I think Joe's gonna
come back. And no, like did you see him in
the Olympics, did you see what he was?
Speaker 5 (01:42:14):
And every game he played his feet couldn't even leave
the ground.
Speaker 2 (01:42:17):
I'm telling you.
Speaker 4 (01:42:17):
The worst thing that happened to them was last year
when Joe came back against the Knicks, had the fifty
point game, the thirty five point, thirty nine point game,
and they're like, Okay, you know that that's look at
that he can't and now we're gonna wrest him for
six Well, first of all.
Speaker 3 (01:42:30):
You're not going to wrest him because he's going to France.
Speaker 4 (01:42:32):
I'm gonna play in that, but he can, and I
don't think the way this is going. My feeling more
and more is that Joe he's never gonna be that
thirty five point guy. He might he might come back
and play and be a twenty five point guy, or
you know, he's gonna retire early. The Sixers record with
him is like, they're winning percentage is like sixty five percent,
some goofy number. They're winning percente without him is like
(01:42:55):
thirty five percent. It's just a fact. Yeah, it's just
so if he's not there, I don't care if you
have MAXI I don't care if you have flag I
mean rather have. But again, I don't care these other guys,
but they're not. No, but they're not winning a championship.
With the guys championship. You have not getting in the
playball second round? Can I get Can I get to
(01:43:15):
the third round?
Speaker 2 (01:43:16):
No? And I'm telling you.
Speaker 4 (01:43:19):
And when this goes downhill, let's say they don't get
fly you know the person ages, They're going to go
into the process again.
Speaker 2 (01:43:26):
I like the process.
Speaker 4 (01:43:27):
The Flyers have been in the process for fifteen years.
Speaker 2 (01:43:30):
Basically, I've always liked the p and they never.
Speaker 4 (01:43:32):
Catch flag for it because they never came out and
said we're in the process.
Speaker 2 (01:43:35):
Well you know that was never like we're tanking for
this guy. Well, this process is over for this week. Yes,
it's been fast two hours.
Speaker 5 (01:43:44):
Hey, next Eagles won the Super Bowl by the way,
good point?
Speaker 2 (01:43:48):
Yes, Final four next Saturday, Alamo d Riverwalk. It'll be awesome.
A final question. Sports are there and everywhere?
Speaker 4 (01:43:59):
Three titles? Forty two years and the persses going up.
