Phillies Finally, somebody beat the Dodgers. Last night, JT. Realmuto
beat the Dodgers, throwing out show hay to and the
eighth and then throwing out another Ronner Taylor to end
at ninth.
Speaker 2 (01:28):
Something you'll never see.
Speaker 4 (01:29):
I caught the last couple of innings on Apple Plus
for you. Everybody was happy about that last that's dedication
and never tuning into all the stations they thought the
game should have been on, and it was on none
of them.
Speaker 2 (01:40):
Phillies have only lost once. Pitching has been awesome.
Speaker 4 (01:45):
Yukon women will play South Carolina tomorrow for the title.
Speaker 2 (01:49):
And I just thought about this.
Speaker 4 (01:50):
So since nineteen ninety five when the Yukon women won
their first title, the Yukon men and women, if they
win tomorrow, we'll have won eight teen of the last
sixty potential men's or women's championships.
Speaker 2 (02:05):
Think about that.
Speaker 3 (02:05):
Gino has it one in nine years. Yeah, he's a bomb.
Gino's a bomb. I'm saying, tell me how many they've won. Yeah,
but the men have won. Yeah, Gino should be going.
Uh and they are a huge if they win, they're
a huge favorite over South Carolina and Philadelphia. North Phillies
down Staley Tomorrow. We got golf the Texas Valero Open.
(02:28):
Most of the heavyweights are not playing this week because
they're playing next week.
Speaker 2 (02:32):
They're waiting together.
Speaker 4 (02:32):
We're playing next week at Augusta, where Jim Nantz will
make his return, and I can't wait.
Speaker 2 (02:38):
Min Wooly, Min Wooly, Mike and I gave out min.
Speaker 3 (02:41):
Wooly last week. I also was four and zero against
the spread. Hopefully everybody was listening. I don't know what
will happen this week, but we'll get to everybody's picks. John,
welcome back, pal.
Speaker 2 (02:51):
Hello, I'm here. Yeah, what's going on? Where have you
been hiding? What's up with you? I've been here, there,
and everywhere.
Speaker 3 (02:58):
They said, that's fine, you're everywhere, long as everywhere, as
long as you're here today.
Speaker 5 (03:03):
His brackets were busted in hiding. I did probably have
to go away for a while after the brag. I
got crushed left and right.
Speaker 2 (03:10):
How can your brackets get busted? When four one? I
got busted the first game? First game? That was it? First?
That was it for you?
Speaker 5 (03:17):
What was the first game Louisville? And yeah, who was
climbs it Umson?
Speaker 2 (03:22):
I don't know. I forget. It was already forgot. I
blacked out. Forgot was that it?
Speaker 1 (03:28):
No?
Speaker 5 (03:28):
I did have McNee state, but I did not have
four ones in my bracket.
Speaker 2 (03:32):
No. Yeah, this year was not a good year to
pick underdogs.
Speaker 3 (03:37):
Only the second time ever two thousand and eight. It
also happened, also happened in San Antonio, and that was
when Kansas beat Memphis, when Derek Rose brick to free throw.
Speaker 2 (03:47):
Did you have to rewrite your lead that year and eight?
Like rewrite my lead? Had to rewrite the whole damn store.
Speaker 3 (03:53):
I spent the whole weekend right calling people to do
a John Calfarry wins the title Calm, Bob Cooney was
there with me right in the game story and.
Speaker 2 (04:02):
I got I'm done.
Speaker 3 (04:02):
Man. Memphis has coach cow it's good and my man
Derek Rose is shooting a free throw. If he makes it,
they're up for with tend to go and you like
their chances. And I know I've told the story. If
I told you the story. Joe So sitting to my
right is my good friend Miss O'Neill, now working for ESPN,
used to work with us, and they're coming up the
(04:23):
court after Derek Rowse misses the free throat and I'm
totally unprofessional screaming out val the guy because my I
want my column to be good because I'm on deadline
and that's the proper place and it's the right not
only do they not foul? And Mario Chalmers, that could
have been the best article that I never.
Speaker 2 (04:43):
Saw the light through the year.
Speaker 3 (04:46):
So Mario Chalmers, like, have you saved any of those three?
Speaker 2 (04:51):
It's fine. I actually saved one. I'll tell you in
a minute.
Speaker 3 (04:54):
So Mario Chalmers hits to three and Dana looks over
at me and smile, Ago, you are in the next
war began with an f funny Yeah, that was not
the war, but she said it with a smile. And
during the overtime I rewrote my entire column.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
Was Kuda won in overtime? I mean they didn't have
to move.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
They were not winning at that point and I knew it,
and yeah, but coach sorry. And it wasn't until Coach
Cow three years later at Kentucky that he finally won
the title. And they tried to throw that lead to
four years, twenty twelve, twenty twelve, whatever whatever year it was.
Coach Coach Cow finally got his title, and they had
a big lead in that game, and I was I
was actually writing that game lot.
Speaker 2 (05:35):
Look at the game story that day. That was crazy,
and he had the unbeaten team to Coot win.
Speaker 3 (05:40):
He did, He did have that, but that was Saturday,
which was less relevant than my true Yeah, I forgot that,
so windn't know every Sunday paid for a bud.
Speaker 2 (05:48):
Anyway, Final four, What was the story? You kept? The story?
Speaker 4 (05:51):
I kept, Mike, you were there with me on this
one ninety seven, Kentucky playing our I was a one
hundred percent convinced Kentucky was going to win the game
and had written a lot of my story prior to
I was writing the game story prior to the game,
in which I never do. And then they lose to
Arizona and overtime, so but we had later deadlines.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
Yeah, I was there.
Speaker 3 (06:12):
I had a much more tier Anderson was tugging on
his put me.
Speaker 2 (06:15):
In the game. Well.
Speaker 3 (06:16):
The next year they won in uh San Antonio with
Tuppy Smith, and I did rescue some of that story,
some of the historical parts of the store.
Speaker 2 (06:25):
Like Kentucky was in the archives. Yeah, I had it
sitting there when they got to the final four.
Speaker 3 (06:30):
I I'll use this eventually always the Piscataway, Yeah that
was Was there anything Dick? Dick would do me favors
and cover games like the started late, and especially if
they were closer to his house.
Speaker 2 (06:42):
Mike did not like late like deadlines.
Speaker 5 (06:45):
He was not.
Speaker 2 (06:45):
I got used to. Actually, I got pretty good act.
He would not be a fan of the college basketball crown.
Speaker 3 (06:50):
Correct, just give me twenty minutes to write a story
and I'll write something good. But whatever. He was a
Villanova beat writer. But if there was a late Villanova game,
like just a scie. So he goes to rock after nine,
Dick tar.
Speaker 2 (07:02):
He goes to Ruckers.
Speaker 3 (07:03):
Villanova's winning by ten with about three minutes ago. Ruckers
comes back, hits a three and gets fouled with like
a second left.
Speaker 2 (07:12):
Anyway, Rutgers wins in overtime. So the next day the
regular regulations regulations. I didn't even have a chance.
Speaker 3 (07:18):
I was, and I just said, was there anything you
could save? He goes, I saved Piscataway.
Speaker 2 (07:24):
The dateline was the only thing.
Speaker 3 (07:26):
You know it, Just start writing, Corey Fisher, Yeah, I
told that story last year. Well, we all went out
to lunch day and I told him that story, said, do.
Speaker 2 (07:37):
You remember the games?
Speaker 5 (07:37):
Is all?
Speaker 2 (07:38):
I remember the game? It was well over and was still.
Speaker 3 (07:41):
Hadn't quite they'd gotten better, but they weren't all the
way to the point where they became O something like that.
Speaker 2 (07:48):
I don't trying.
Speaker 3 (07:51):
That's another story I would not want to see at
this moment in time.
Speaker 4 (07:54):
So I have two final fours today. Villanova was involved
in one of them. For those interested in such things,
the crown is still going on. We have Nebraska and
who in game number and State in game numbers almost
got into the n C double A right, Yeah, they
were always he was one of the last four. Yeah,
And we have Villanova and UCF coach by former sixer
(08:15):
Johnny Dawkins.
Speaker 2 (08:17):
Uh, Villanova is.
Speaker 4 (08:18):
A three and a half point favorite the last I
looked at that game.
Speaker 3 (08:21):
Bikenard, he has done a fine job. I don't know
whether that means he stays on his staff. Well does
some of the guys obviously, Dwayne Anderson, Uh.
Speaker 2 (08:31):
Pat my Man Howard. Just a shame. They're all going
to go.
Speaker 4 (08:37):
I don't see how he's bringing them all back. It's unfortunate,
but that's the way the world works. With Kevin Weller
being the new coach, which we did.
Speaker 2 (08:44):
We know that last week. We sort of know it
on the show, I think now, but we kind of
knew he was when when did Merlin season end, like
Thursday in San Francisco, so we nearly was getting the job.
I think he was. I think he handled it pretty well.
Speaker 4 (08:57):
Yeah, he was very impressive how he handled it just brutal.
So uh the ground final four for those that care,
congratulations with my friend Dan Earl coach Chattanooga from South
Jersey Pet State. They won the n I T. I
don't know if anybody saw the last play, but you
see Irvine ran his great play with two seconds left
where they threw it to their center. He tipped it
(09:19):
to another guy who.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
Had a lot at the bush and he didn't use
the backboard and short of Bryce Shrew?
Speaker 2 (09:25):
Is it like a Bryce Shrew only similarly closer to
the similar play? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (09:29):
Similar play. Does Danny get a job at it at
or older? Jobs taken by? Most of the jobs are taken.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
But he's a terrific coach and Chattanooga was fun to
watch for those who've got a chance to watch the
knit and they got to get it out of Hancklefield.
That's as much as I love Indianapolis, nobody was there.
Speaker 3 (09:45):
Bring it back to the garden, please where people actually
where you have like eight million people, some of them
are gonna show up.
Speaker 2 (09:50):
Makes no sense.
Speaker 4 (09:51):
So in the final fourth today Game one, Florida two
and a half over Auburn. Game two, the last I
saw John check from or Kyle checked me if I'm wrong,
I got Duke five at bet Parks over Houston. It's
been anywhere from four and a half to five and
a half, five and a half, five and a half
back up, that's the max. It's been as five and
a half. So we'll go over those games today. Mike,
(10:15):
and I know you've been sitting here calm rationally. You
told me you needed at some ramps today and I
wanted one a segment. Well this is a segment. What
are you ready?
Speaker 2 (10:24):
But sure, sure I might not have one segment, but
I'll you mean you might, you'll think of them.
Speaker 3 (10:29):
Come on, I calm down, I always calm down a
little bit. We don't want that, we don't want need
you to get to the show later.
Speaker 5 (10:36):
Just maybe come in at nine oh five then, just
we do not want calm, Mike current.
Speaker 2 (10:41):
We don't want time for you to debreath.
Speaker 3 (10:42):
Which is I should I shouldn't get this up. I
shouldn't get this upset about things. I really shouldn't. I
should let the world just kind of happen. But things, okay,
I'll go Jamaran Jamaran Ja moran. Oh boy, all right,
tremendous player. Yep, he's a victim. Okay, twice, I believe.
Once in twenty two and once in twenty three whatever.
(11:04):
He got in trouble with gun issues where he was
seen whatever, and he got punished, he served whatever. So
this week he comes out, I think real early in
the week and does the gun thing playing Golden against
Golden State, and the NBA admonishes him and says, hey, dude,
we kind of told you don't do He does it
again in the next game. They find him seventy five,
(11:26):
which I don't know what seventy five means it and
then he comes out with this thing about how he
is the victim and he don't care anymore.
Speaker 2 (11:33):
Repear, Yo, dude, you.
Speaker 3 (11:35):
Bought this upon yourself, and you're bringing down a franchise
of which you were viewed as the face of it.
Maybe one of the faces of the NBA. And again,
he probably has issues. I get it, And I'm not
saying he's the worst person walking the face of the earth.
Speaker 2 (11:51):
I don't mean that either.
Speaker 3 (11:51):
But you have to understand this is one of those
cases where somebody like Lebron maybe has to sit down
with him and say, do you're one of the guys
like we can't have this. This is why people think
of the NBA the way people think of the NBA.
And you have all these players today now criticizing how
the media treats them and Lebron going after Steven A
(12:14):
and and on and on and on. Jah to me
is a lost cause. He's got to get out of Memphis.
He got the coach fired probably well I don't know that.
I don't I don't know other issues. But again, he's
got to get out of Memphis, go somewhere else.
Speaker 2 (12:28):
Started because he's a tremendous player.
Speaker 3 (12:30):
He was a great story coming from where he carried
and I just think and okay, you did it, Mondy,
Okay whatever, for whatever reasons, don't know, then you do.
Speaker 2 (12:41):
It again two nights later when the NBA.
Speaker 3 (12:44):
That's like Kelvin Sampson and Oklahoma right, Hey, don't do
that crap on the phone.
Speaker 2 (12:48):
Oh you did it. Oh you're gone.
Speaker 5 (12:51):
You can't be a victim when you when you bring
it upon yourself, and then you can't be a victim
as well when they specifically tell you please don't do this,
and then you continue to do it and then cry wolf.
Speaker 3 (13:01):
Thirty years ago, Dick Grew already correctly called John cal
Party coach victim because John coach coach. Again, did Cheney
go into say absolutely, I'm not I'm gonna kill you.
Cal Party was not the victim. He wasn't coming to
Philadelphia and not going home. But he acted the part
(13:21):
because I don't know what John RAN's trying to do,
because I don't see where he's getting any sympathy at
him and the world that we live in with all
the problems with gun violence things. No, this is this
is a big deal, especially in some communities. Right, It's
really unfortunate, and kids see that, right, right, He just
he just hasn't grown up, No, not at all.
Speaker 4 (13:42):
I remember that his draft class, it was it was
him and Zion Williamson, and I was a proponent of
him as the best player he went to he did.
I thought he was gonna be a better long term
NBA player than Williamson.
Speaker 2 (13:54):
I didn't know Williamson was gonna get a hut forever.
Speaker 4 (13:56):
Obviously, if Williamson didn't get hurt, he was gonna be
a sensation.
Speaker 2 (13:59):
But you can't count on him.
Speaker 4 (14:00):
I thought Moran was a potential Hall of Fame player
coming out of college. I still believe that. But what
are you doing? I mean, at some point you have
to grow up.
Speaker 2 (14:10):
And I don't know.
Speaker 4 (14:11):
Look, he fid he's a kid from South Carolina. All
of a sudden, he's at Mersey Day where nobody's ever
heard of him. Know, he's making a fortune. He's in Memphis.
It just sounds to me like he's hanging out with
the wrong crowd and nobody. He doesn't have a mentor
that's able to pull him aside and go, hey, yo, man,
what are you doing? And it's really a shame because
(14:32):
I hope he doesn't wash out, because look, Memphis was
an up and coming franchise.
Speaker 2 (14:36):
And they're still They're having a good season. They were
in second place in the West.
Speaker 4 (14:39):
They faded because there's a there was a philosophical difference
on how to play offense with the new regime, the
GM had hired some new coaches and they wanted.
Speaker 2 (14:50):
To show Taylor Jenkins was a pen guy, by the.
Speaker 4 (14:52):
Way, a different way of doing things, and it worked
for a long time and then it stopped working, so
the coach paid the price. But yeah, I think this
is a separate, completely separate issue.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Just it's just a shame.
Speaker 3 (15:02):
I mean, did he get suspended for like forty games
the one year because okay, so you think you would
top money cost.
Speaker 2 (15:08):
I don't know what the relationship is with his father.
Speaker 3 (15:10):
I don't know what His father obviously has a big
but his father's always there. He was there the other night.
The father at some point has to city's son down
and say son. It would appear as if the father
potentially is part of the problems, and that's where I
was going, but I don't. I don't know about because
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (15:28):
Right, there's at least that possibility because at some point
somebody this would stop, and I hope it does.
Speaker 2 (15:34):
But guns are bad, correct lakes.
Speaker 3 (15:37):
And if you want to do whatever he's doing, that's fun,
but don't do it in front of a camera, in
front of a crowd, or in front.
Speaker 4 (15:44):
Of whatever right, So back to the final four. Sorry,
that's all right. No, no, that's a good rant and
no problem bothered me understood. So Auburn is now they're
at the number one overall. See now they're the longest price.
Well jobbed, well done by the committee.
Speaker 3 (16:00):
It was a two seedon to women. They were to
favor go exactly. Another not good job by these committees.
They're five to one to win it all. The reason
they're five to one is because they're perceived. They got
to on paper, they got to beat Florida, they got
to beat Duke. That's that's what the people think.
Speaker 2 (16:14):
So Auburn has played all three of these teams.
Speaker 4 (16:17):
Uh, they beat Houston in the Toyota Center, which is
why the Rockets play. Back in November, they lost at Duke,
and they lost to Florida in ninety to eighty one
at home. Back in February at home, and that's kind
of the day where he said, oh, Florida's pretty damn good.
Florida to me, has not played well in this tournament.
I thought they were lucky to beat you guy, And.
Speaker 3 (16:37):
I thought they were really lucky to beat Texas Tech last.
Their guard was awesome. Oh my God, that game was
just unbelievable. Walter Clinton the play where he dribbled out, Yeah,
and that was Stephy Yeah, that was crazy.
Speaker 4 (16:51):
And by the way, speaking of Steph Curry, we'll get
to him in a minute. Houston has won seventy games
in a row. For those interesting, I didn't realize that.
Speaker 2 (17:03):
That game was over before it started.
Speaker 3 (17:05):
They've won seventeen in a row. Duke has won fourteen
in a row.
Speaker 4 (17:10):
So the one thing I was trying to figure out,
when was the last time Duke lost and who did
they lose to?
Speaker 2 (17:15):
John Do you know the answer to that question? Clemson?
Speaker 4 (17:20):
Correct, Duke has won fifteen in a row. So who
does Clemson play like? That's in this tournament? Still play Houston, Houston.
Speaker 3 (17:29):
It was a sixty three possession game in Clemson. That's
how Houston will play this game. It'll be a low
possession defense. First, seventy's going to be a good number. Look,
Duke has the best players.
Speaker 4 (17:43):
Nobody's gonna argue that they got three guys who potential
lottery picks.
Speaker 3 (17:47):
But Houston has got twenty three year olds. Duke has
eighteen year olds. They're playing three hours in their campus.
They just played in a dome last weekend. None of
these other teams have played a dome.
Speaker 4 (18:00):
Me Houston is very live and plus five and a
half in this game, but we'll have everybody's I.
Speaker 3 (18:07):
Texted Dick during the Houston game. I guess the game
they got him to the Final four when they crossed.
Two guys obviously won't remember because when Georgetown in the
eighties came on the scene, and it was like they
played like Houston or Houston plays like that.
Speaker 2 (18:23):
Everything is contested.
Speaker 3 (18:25):
There isn't one pass on the court that doesn't go contested,
and and Georgetown would just wear you down.
Speaker 2 (18:32):
And they had Town. I mean, god knows they had talent.
Speaker 3 (18:35):
They made the final game three straight years or three
out of four years, Patrick h And that's what you
they will. They lost two title games by one point
and one the other easily. I think that the other
cross Houston. So I'm just saying, when you watch this
team play, and they may not be the greatest offensive
team whatever, and I don't know if it's gonna be
(18:55):
pretty good good enough, but there isn't a play on
the court the Duke's going to just come down and say, Okay,
I'm gonna throw it to this guy. No, you're you're
going to have to figure it out, and they might
because Duke's that good. Yeah, they are that good. They're
they're they're really good. They should be favored.
Speaker 4 (19:10):
I don't think five is the right number, but five
is would you say like three?
Speaker 2 (19:14):
To me, it's two to it. Basically the metrics say
it's two.
Speaker 3 (19:18):
But look, the oddsmakers are going, it's Duke. Everybody's gonna
better on them, like the count. That's why the number
is what the number is. And look that they're trying
to figure out what the people are gonna do. So
I get it. But to me, I think the advantage
there is Houston. But we'll have everybody say on that,
what's the overrun on that game?
Speaker 2 (19:36):
Like one thirty six and a half. I'm saying it
could be different. Yeah, So that's you're saying, if you
get this seventy.
Speaker 3 (19:43):
Correct, seventies, seventy is a winning score, right, and look
if it's in the seventies mid seventies, Duke's gonna win.
Speaker 2 (19:49):
Duke's winning.
Speaker 3 (19:49):
Yeah, Yeah, that's just not the kind of game Houston's
prop Do you think you think I'm guessing? Boy, what
you're saying, you think Houston has a legit chance to
maybe win this game.
Speaker 2 (19:56):
I do. I do.
Speaker 3 (19:57):
We'll get to everybody's picks in a second. But yeah,
I do think they're Yeah, I think they're locked.
Speaker 1 (20:03):
I do.
Speaker 2 (20:04):
I don't. Why wouldn't they be locked?
Speaker 3 (20:07):
They won at worst the second best league in the
country by daylight into Big twelve, and they've had guys
that have been playing a lot of big games. For
those with long memories, naturally played Duke in the sweet
sixteen last year, had the game not in haim, but
were in good.
Speaker 2 (20:25):
Shape until the kid Jamal Shed got hurt. He was
their best player. Let that's right now. Having said that,
Duke is entirely different, I forgot that that was the
game in this I forgot. Yeah, that was the sixteen
and then Duke lost to NC State in the eights.
Right in NC State.
Speaker 4 (20:40):
Nobody can still figure out what the hell they were
doing to the final four last year. How about that
they get to the final four and the poor coach
gets fired and fired the next year.
Speaker 2 (20:47):
Kevin Kevin keats. When you make the final four.
Speaker 3 (20:50):
One year and get fired, it is a tough world
out there.
Speaker 2 (20:54):
Had no memory that.
Speaker 5 (20:55):
Some of the stuff is Kevin Oley getting fired a
few years after champions That's right, he was Champions of
coaches don't get fired.
Speaker 3 (21:01):
Yeah, but there was there was other factors, and that
was not just a there were factors.
Speaker 4 (21:06):
There's a lot. There was a lot going on there.
That lawsuit may still be going on. I don't I
don't know what eventually happened. I know he sued Yukon and.
Speaker 3 (21:13):
Kevinally was a Yukon guy, and that that was one
of the more unlikely championship state tournament history. Saint Jose
had him beat in the first game, Hillanova, had him
beat early in the second game.
Speaker 2 (21:25):
Buffalo, and then and then all of a sudden, I'm
in what the hell was I Dallas? I think it was.
It was a the Jones Dove in twenty fourteen.
Speaker 3 (21:32):
I'm going quit a second. This is the team Saint
Joe's almost beat me, and I'm writing a column that
they're winning the You look at the last two Yukon
wins before Hurley Demo. Yeah, but they won five Street
in the Big East, and my line was there's no
way to win six warm, you know, And then they did,
and they just they just kept winning and then the
(21:54):
Kevinali year, and they were in a high seat. I
don't think they were were like a seven. They played
Nova in the second game, so two seven to two. Yes,
it was gonna be Saint Joseph Nova in the tournament,
which would have been a while and Saint Joe might
have won it.
Speaker 2 (22:08):
They were playing, they.
Speaker 3 (22:09):
Were playing really, really well. And that was the thirty years.
That was a game where Jay sent the text to Phil.
Speaker 2 (22:14):
That was in Buffalo, but you abandoned me.
Speaker 3 (22:17):
They beat him by thirty They did No I had.
That was my verdict. I had verdigo. I didn't hear
no show and oh I didn't have been in anybody.
Speaker 2 (22:25):
But Mike was hurting.
Speaker 3 (22:29):
I tried three times twenty four to pack my bags
and get in the car with Jojo.
Speaker 2 (22:33):
It didn't happen. It didn't happen.
Speaker 3 (22:35):
But I wrote a story because they wanted a James
Bell story.
Speaker 2 (22:39):
So I went down and wrote it and gave him
a James Bell And it wasn't a great James Bell story,
but it was James. It was James. You weren't at
your best.
Speaker 3 (22:47):
And I sat in front of TV for like three
and I watched the villain over you kind of game.
Speaker 2 (22:51):
People are listening to this show and then.
Speaker 5 (22:55):
It wasn't the best James Bell story, but it was
a James never.
Speaker 3 (22:58):
Forget corestion, first Saint Joe, catam Savage, all kind of
rebound but never here the only rebound he dropped in
four years.
Speaker 2 (23:09):
But I can remember from Staten Island by.
Speaker 5 (23:11):
The way, Sixer a legend. Think you guys, yeah, you
gotta put that.
Speaker 2 (23:17):
He could start on this team.
Speaker 5 (23:18):
Yes, you could start on They don't make the finals
in two thousand without Kevin. We we actually could all
be in this. We are the Sixers starting lineup.
Speaker 3 (23:26):
I'm going to the game tonight with my grandson. We
have tickets.
Speaker 2 (23:30):
That's right. That's this week is going to be cost
you the same as like a happy meal would cost me.
And Sean, Sean, I hope you're part of this.
Speaker 3 (23:39):
What everybody agreed that the Sixers have done the most
impressive job of tanking in modern memory.
Speaker 2 (23:45):
That's what they know how to do best. They're up
to ten in a row. I believe ten in a row.
Speaker 5 (23:49):
They're only two ahead of uh somebody for the third worst.
Speaker 3 (23:53):
Right, Yeah, they're they're heading in the right direction. Yeah,
but you may not have enough time the Pelicans. Yeah,
but the Pelicans schedules real hard.
Speaker 2 (24:00):
You're not playing.
Speaker 5 (24:01):
I'm so glad Joe waited to get a surgery too. Yeah,
he was ruled out for the rest of the year,
but two and a half months.
Speaker 2 (24:07):
This is the worst run organization.
Speaker 3 (24:10):
I won't say in sports because there are the Wizards
and there are some, but no better.
Speaker 2 (24:16):
I really do that these guys.
Speaker 3 (24:20):
Nick Nurse comes out one dances why, I think, Max,
he's coming back, and then like three minutes later, they say, no, no, no,
he's not.
Speaker 5 (24:26):
There was a report that they ruled the season and
Nick Nurse like, oh, I'm just he's out for tonight.
Speaker 2 (24:31):
That's all I'm Now.
Speaker 3 (24:32):
You tell your coach that the only player you have
left is like not not playing again, Like really, I'm sorry.
Speaker 5 (24:43):
And then there was report they they've totally lost me
that they basically told him be to walk it off
before before they shut down for the season.
Speaker 2 (24:52):
I got news for you.
Speaker 5 (24:53):
They got they got to be top five most dysfunctional organization.
Speaker 2 (24:56):
He's not.
Speaker 3 (24:59):
Forget if maybe he ever plays it, but he will
not be playing next year, folks.
Speaker 2 (25:04):
He gets this surgery.
Speaker 3 (25:05):
I'm just he had the surgery. Now, yeah, I think
next week. No, he didn't have it. No, he didn't
have it yet. Streaming it's arthroscopic, so I don't know
what that means live streaming it.
Speaker 2 (25:16):
I mean the Sixers have lost ten in a row.
Speaker 4 (25:19):
They're locked into the fifth worst record at this point
and going for a fourth worst if that's.
Speaker 2 (25:24):
Pop fourth, going looking to potentially get third, but going
to be and fourth. I'm sorry, it's gonna be hard. No,
they're fifth, and they're no or fourth, the fourth.
Speaker 3 (25:33):
I believe there's two teams behind him in the East
and two in the West.
Speaker 2 (25:37):
Oh, maybe you're you might be right.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
It's it's the Pelicans, Wizards, Wizards, Jazz, Yes.
Speaker 5 (25:44):
One, Hornets, you're right, it's fifth.
Speaker 2 (25:48):
Who could forget about Charlotte. So they're fifth, but a good.
Speaker 5 (25:52):
Fifth, a good moving Maybe could go down to fourth
if they're lucky, if the Pels get hot.
Speaker 3 (25:59):
And Mike is onto the game tonight against the Timberwolves.
Speaker 2 (26:03):
Are you ready for this?
Speaker 3 (26:04):
He's not playing du They're getting sixteen and I don't
I don't think.
Speaker 2 (26:08):
I don't think he is playing. Why would Why would he?
While he tweaked his ankle or something, the other night.
It's a rest day for them and to win anything.
Speaker 4 (26:17):
And the Timberwolves, by the way, are fighting with Golden
State Denver and the Clippers the last playoffs Memphis. Yeah,
within like two games of ever Denver's Denver, Golden State, Minnesota,
Clippers and Memphis are within a game and a half
of each other.
Speaker 2 (26:31):
And the Lakers and the Lakers were him too.
Speaker 5 (26:33):
Yeah, you get do you get to see Ronnie Walker play? So, Mike,
I want you.
Speaker 3 (26:38):
I want you to enjoy yourself and give us a
report next Saturday on the state of the s. Do
you think I'm watching any of that game. I'm going
to be up in the hallway with my grandson playing
like basketball or something.
Speaker 2 (26:49):
What times that game on?
Speaker 3 (26:50):
I got seven o'clock, just when the Phillies are letting out. Yeah,
in the Final four?
Speaker 2 (26:55):
Final four is gonna be there? Are you gonna is
anybody gonna be there with you? Parking a problem? No,
we got free parking in My son's company had tickets
across the street.
Speaker 5 (27:05):
The Final four is all but you get the fitting
Grimes and the Sixers just pick you up.
Speaker 2 (27:10):
At your house in a limit.
Speaker 3 (27:11):
Well, my son picking me up, Well, we have he
picked this game like four months ago because there was
a couple of choices we were guying.
Speaker 5 (27:22):
About four months ago, because he thought it couldn't be
that bad making a playoff run.
Speaker 2 (27:26):
Yeah, it cannot get worse, you know what I was
thinking about Kyle Lowry's back.
Speaker 3 (27:31):
Think about this though, during the whole process, the whole process,
although than when they had Ben, and Ben wasn't your typical,
but he was your point guard.
Speaker 2 (27:40):
They haven't had a point guard from his whole thing.
By the way, are you an where Ben is averaging
five to five and five this year? Five five triple nickel.
Speaker 3 (27:51):
All I know is that Tobias Harris is having a
better season than Paul George.
Speaker 2 (27:56):
That's all I need to know.
Speaker 3 (27:58):
You.
Speaker 2 (27:58):
Yeah, because he's on the court, so you have to do.
Speaker 3 (28:00):
No, he's actually playing for a team that's won three
times as many games.
Speaker 2 (28:04):
As they did the last three years. Just clinched the
playoffs last night. The Pistons. Pistons Kate Cunningham, Hey, amazing.
I want to know what is going to give us
a report next week? Here's my rapports.
Speaker 5 (28:20):
They Yeah, here's the report they.
Speaker 3 (28:23):
Lost and and all those guys they signed in the
off season, have done dufus nothing. The guy they drafted
actually did for like ten games whatever.
Speaker 2 (28:34):
But everybody they signed is it stays Gordon didn't get
it done for you er, I'm sorry, might as well
be anyway, here's when people talk about Nick Nurse. Right.
Speaker 3 (28:51):
Look, all I know is you take any team in
the league and take the three best players they've played
I think nine games together some number.
Speaker 2 (29:00):
And he's gonna be the fall guy. He's gonna get fired. Yeah,
and whatever, that's what they do.
Speaker 3 (29:06):
You take you know, you take Giannis Dame and somebody
else off Milwaukee, they win ten games. I mean, that's
just the way it is. But what the Sixers didn't
realize it was predictable. When your center's hobbling around at
the Olympics, it's predictable. And Paul George, who's thirty four
years old and only sign here because he gave me
(29:27):
the extra year because nobody else was giving him the
extra year. You want to play on the West Coast.
I want to stay with Kawhi, which, by the way,
they are actually playing decently. Why Ben Simmons man, is
that the team's done? Simmons Simmons, Jack Harden and both
on that team that traded Jim Bobs playing really well,
why don't they trade for him bed?
Speaker 2 (29:47):
I don't know, maybe maybe next year they might need
a big man.
Speaker 5 (29:50):
Oh and by the way, while Embiid was hobbling around
at the Olympics, let's give him a three year extension
as well.
Speaker 2 (29:55):
Yeah, throw that in.
Speaker 4 (29:56):
There, all right, So we're gonna have final four predictions
after the break.
Speaker 2 (30:00):
One more NBA thought before we get there, he gave
him three years.
Speaker 3 (30:04):
I don't I don't know if anybody's paying attention to
this my lifetime deal at this point. Since Jimmy Butler
came to the Warriors, they're twenty one and five. Yeah,
but I think they're nineteen and two with him and
Steph Clark twenty one and five, And so what Jimmy
does and Stephen Curry the other night twelve threes fifty
two in Memphis, then they went to LA and beat
(30:25):
the Lakers, and last night they beat Denver. Let me
look out, they are a factor again because Butler is
staying their guys playlist because they said those guys weren't
gonna playoff.
Speaker 4 (30:35):
How about Luca. Do you like that game the other
year that was impressive. And look, the Lakers are better.
They've been struggling a little bit lately. But that in
the West.
Speaker 3 (30:46):
I'm sorry, I'm meant joker, I know, I mean, I'm
in I'm sixty one sixty one point triple double ridiculous.
Boll did that like six straight games back in the
You know, so the NBA playoffs are coming.
Speaker 2 (30:58):
Up, the six ers will not.
Speaker 5 (31:00):
Please get me more Lakers Warriors. By the way, by
the way, I could, I could take a seven game
ser ESPN.
Speaker 3 (31:05):
Is actually they're negotiating to get that.
Speaker 5 (31:07):
And that's fine with me if you want to, if
you want to do that.
Speaker 2 (31:10):
Anybody four or five series?
Speaker 3 (31:13):
Does anybody realized did OKC could win seventy? Do you
know how many teams have won seventy in the NBA?
To the Bulls and the words, that's I mean, they
could win seventy and nobody even like in Oklahoma.
Speaker 2 (31:30):
They're fifteen games up, like when the rest of the West,
but the Rockets locked into.
Speaker 5 (31:34):
That, locked under the player on the rock I imagine
most futures do not include Oklahoma City or Houston. I'm
I'm assuming most future bets do not include Oklahoma.
Speaker 2 (31:46):
City or only look that up during the break.
Speaker 5 (31:49):
Imagine a lot of bets have to be on and
we just saw it again Thursday night. It's gonna be
the Warriors and Lakers because they're really good with Really,
I'll take the okay players. Yeah, I think that as
the right as the most of this madness. I promise
a more focused segment.
Speaker 2 (32:03):
Coming now, I've got one, I've got more ranch Now
we have the.
Speaker 3 (32:08):
Final four predictions coming up. Stay still for that. Meanwhile,

We will be back to discuss right after this.
Speaker 1 (32:50):
If you can wager on it. We're talking about it.
It's the Gambler.

We're back.
Speaker 2 (33:10):

Sportsbook at Casino in one app got to Bedparks dot com.
The only I have we recommend must be twenty one
in an Edjaca, Maryland, Ohio, Michigan Gambling problem one and
under Giler, Dictarardi, Mike Kurr, John Jansen, Kyle Nunna Maker
(33:42):
Florida minus two and a half over Auburn. They played
back on February the eighth, so two months ago. Florida ninety,
Auburn eighty one.
Speaker 4 (33:52):
In that game, Walter Clayton was the MVP, played all
forty minutes, had nineteen points made fourth.
Speaker 3 (34:00):
Florida was thirteen or thirty three on threes that day,
Auburn seven of twenty two on threes.
Speaker 4 (34:08):
John, since you've been away, we're gonna start with you
on Florida Auburn. Auburn the number one overall seed now
the longest shot to win the title at five to one,
getting two and a half in San Antonio against the Gators.
Speaker 2 (34:24):
Your thoughts.
Speaker 5 (34:26):
I don't want to make it too complicated, because I
think Auburn for the most part, even more than Florida,
has been the best team in the country. Like through
ninety something percent of the season, they've been the best.
And I feel like we've seen this a few times
over the years, that the best team sometimes will stumble
at the end a little bit, lose a few games,
and we all think, Okay, maybe finally it's it's runout.
(34:48):
You know, they're just not what they are. And then
Auburn through the tournament has looked great. You know, they've
looked like that team. So I think it's I think
it's Auburn Florida. To me, there's something about I guess
Golden that just rubs off of the team. He comes
off of this nervous energy and like good coach, and
it's a really good team, really talented team. But we've
seen a lot in second halfs in these games that
(35:10):
they have a lot of nervous energy to them. So
I think Auburn to me has been the more calm, collected,
better police team.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
Auburn plus two and I have for shot cop.
Speaker 5 (35:20):
Yeah, I'm gonna lean towards Auburn too. I said it
last week, the same thing that John just said. Auburn
for ninety percent of the season has been the best
team in the country. I think they're really hitting their stride.
They were a little iffy heading into the tournament, but
they put that to rest. Florida, on the other hand,
have had to play miraculously down the stretch in these
(35:40):
games just to win. I don't think you're gonna be
able to just survive in this game like they have
been in these other games in the tournament.
Speaker 2 (35:49):
I think Auburn wins here.
Speaker 3 (35:51):
Mike, Yeah, I hate these games because you can make
no because you can make a Kate Like. I liked
Auburn a lot of the year, and then I fell
in love with Florida because of what they were doing
and the two teams going into the tournament that I'd
probably liked the best for Florida and Houston. And now
I'm looking at these games and I hear everything you
guys say. I mean, I could go either way. In
(36:12):
this game, and it wouldn't. I like Bruce Pearl, so
I'd like to see him get to a final. And
Florida hasn't looked as good as Auburn probably in this tournament.
Speaker 2 (36:25):
But since you guys both took.
Speaker 3 (36:26):
Auburn, that one guard on Florida is an assassin alter
and he could be a sixer. I mean, for all
the how I know that they if they saw because
you and again, I could go either way.
Speaker 2 (36:37):
I'll take Florida Florida minus two, and I have from Bike.
Speaker 3 (36:40):
So if Florida's won ten in a row at one point,
Albert had won fourteen.
Speaker 2 (36:44):
In a row till they lost that game to Florida.
Speaker 3 (36:46):
They played the toughest schedule in the country, right, maybe
the toughest schedule at history. Yeah, they played these top
ten teams. Yes, that's why they were the number one overall.
See again, the committee needs a gambler on it, which
could explain that they were not that team going into
the tournament. But that's nothing to do about that.
Speaker 2 (37:03):
At the moment.
Speaker 4 (37:05):
Plorida has look I thought they were outplayed and out
coached by Yukon. I thought they were outplayed and out
coached by Texas Tech fortunate to win both games. You
con just didn't thin could make an open shot and
they win that game by ten. Texas Tech just gagged
it up. At the end of front ends of one
and One's for the people that don't know. Todd Golden
(37:27):
and Brian Schiff, our good buddy used to work at Sportsnet,
called me the other day to fill me in on
all this.
Speaker 2 (37:33):
I knew some of it.
Speaker 4 (37:35):
Todd Golden played at Saint Mary's of California for Randy Bennett,
and in twenty eleven he was at LaSalle trying out
for the USA mccabee team which was going to play
in Israel in the Mccabee Games.
Speaker 3 (37:50):
And his coach was Bruce Perk, who was the coach
at Tennessee at the time. And I remember this because
Brian called me and said, Hey, could he come over
and do a story on Bruce.
Speaker 2 (38:01):
He's in town.
Speaker 4 (38:01):
So I took Bruce to get a cheese steak at
Chinks now Joe's Steak and Soda Shop, the one in Tarsdale,
which is now closed, did the story, and Todd Golden
then went on to coach at a number of places,
and when Bruce got the job at Auburn. Todd Golden
was his ops got when he first got there. Then
he went to San Francisco, became the head coach there
(38:23):
and has had a great run.
Speaker 2 (38:24):
So this is teacher and stupe.
Speaker 3 (38:27):
What did Bruce get in his cheese steak? Don't remember,
been a long time I saw. I saw Bruce like
a year later in Birmingham at the NCAA. I said, man,
I'm sorry I couldn't bring you a cheese steak.
Speaker 2 (38:38):
Was I didn't think it'd be.
Speaker 3 (38:39):
War Joe doesn't do whiz anyway, No whiz, no wiz.
So Todd Golden is a young up and coming obviously
starred the profession.
Speaker 4 (38:49):
Bruce Pralton Mike's point. I mean wherever he's been, he's won.
Tennessee won big Auburn he got to the first ever
Final four.
Speaker 2 (38:56):
I mean Auburn was naughty.
Speaker 3 (38:58):
He didn't even know they had a basketball team other
than the fact that Charles Markley was there until Bruce
Pearl got there.
Speaker 2 (39:04):
Now they're a regular.
Speaker 3 (39:06):
I think Auburn has the X factor in broom to me,
I don't florta to me, doesn't have anybody that can
guard him.
Speaker 2 (39:14):
I don't like Florida's biggs.
Speaker 3 (39:16):
When I watch them, they're kind of interchangeable because I
think they're all pretty average.
Speaker 2 (39:21):
And can you depend on Clayton to do.
Speaker 4 (39:24):
A miraculous finish for a third time? Maybe you can,
but I would prefer not to do that. I'll take
the dog. Can I stake Auburn plus two?
Speaker 2 (39:33):
I switch you do like I said I could. But
everything you guys are saying makes sense. And he's looked.
Speaker 3 (39:42):
These are two heavyweights. I mean, tell me, this should
be This line to me should be pick them. I
don't really understand why Florida's favored in this game. And look,
it's a good line because it hasn't move, so you
know when they made the line, they got it great.
Speaker 2 (39:55):
And according to Broom, he has no limitations. And look,
he's just he's just a really, really good college player.
Speaker 3 (40:01):
I said this last week. I don't know what the
NBA will think of him. I don't know what the
NBA will think of Clayton. It was a small shooting guard.
Speaker 4 (40:09):
Yeah, he's got some point guard skills, but he's more
of a shooting guard and the NBA typically doesn't like
those kinds of players.
Speaker 3 (40:15):
That doesn't mean they won't like him, but hey will soon.
If you make shots, they like it.
Speaker 2 (40:19):
Yeah, and look he can he can shoot three pretty simple. No,
I mean, I'm and it's absolutely true. He's just a
little undersized.
Speaker 3 (40:27):
Lynn Greer, who God bless him, was small. Lynn could
make shots. And the Milwaukee Bucks were ready to give
him like a five year contract, and he decided to
stay in wherever he was playing over in Europe because
he was making as much or more. And so we
got we got three Auburns one Florida and we'll see
how it plays out.
Speaker 2 (40:48):
Bruce Pearl going for his first national title.
Speaker 3 (40:50):
If you can remember back when they were in the
final four six years ago, they had the.
Speaker 2 (40:54):
Game against Virginia one. Then there was a controversial.
Speaker 4 (40:57):
Uh travel or no travel on the Virginia point guard
at the end of regulation. I think it was the
end of regulation, and Kyle guy won it with I
think three free throws with like zero point nine or something.
Speaker 3 (41:10):
You guys kind of waiting me and I got the
wrong side. That's okay, whatever, On to the nightcap.
Speaker 2 (41:15):
Congrats on the winter and you know it's funny.
Speaker 4 (41:17):
As as soon as Duke got to the final four,
I said, well, you know what, the nightcap is on Saturday.
It didn't matter whether they're gonna play Tennessee or Houston.
Duke is Look, Duke could be playing lasal on Saturday.
Need be the really cap correct. They've won fifteen in
a row and no disrespect to the out. Yeah, I
mean none of the games have been close. Really, I
mean they've just smashed people. They won the ACC Tournament.
Speaker 3 (41:41):
North Carolina came back on, but they won pretty easily
without Cooper Flag.
Speaker 2 (41:45):
That's right.
Speaker 3 (41:46):
The NCAA games, Baylor by twenty three. They put up
one hundred on Arizona. It was artificially closed, but it
was a blowout till the end. Sixty five points for Alabama.
I mean that's phrminal. So they are justifiably favored. Cooper
Flag has been everything that they said he was and more.
Speaker 2 (42:08):
He's been sensational. How do I say the big kids
named Matcher six here Cooper playing? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (42:13):
There go am I saying the big kids named Malachi Malakoch.
Speaker 2 (42:17):
Malawak malawath he could be a future sixer.
Speaker 3 (42:20):
Well, he's certainly going to be a high draft pick.
Cample is going to be a high draft yea.
Speaker 4 (42:24):
So they got three guys that are probably going to
be drafted in the first fifteen at work.
Speaker 2 (42:28):
How about the guard? You would think he got more
eligibility and stuff.
Speaker 3 (42:32):
I don't know what the NBA fixed him, but I mean,
he's a They're really terrific college player.
Speaker 2 (42:37):
They're really good.
Speaker 3 (42:38):
John Shire has replaced the man and it's been seamless.
Speaker 4 (42:41):
He's done a phenomenal job. I like watching how they
run offense. It's intricate, it's fun, it's fascinating. But I
think this is the worst possible team for them to play,
just matchup wise, style wise in Houston, which is law
as law us one game since November, and that was
(43:04):
an overtime at home to Texas Tech back on February first.
They've won seventeen in a row. And I mentioned this
last week. People don't realize this. They're among the very
best three point shooting teams in the country. And I'm
gonna give you a bet LJ.
Speaker 2 (43:19):
Krier.
Speaker 3 (43:20):
The last I looked is fifteen to one to be
the mopit. Well, if you think Houston is going to
win the whole thing, which I do, that's kind of
like the Jalen Hurts bet, except you get three times
the price.
Speaker 2 (43:32):
As you did this, you got to win two games
instead of war.
Speaker 3 (43:34):
We got to win two instead of Wat's Cooper flag,
like two to one, Like I think six to five
was the last I looked basically even a little over
even money because that's what Duke is.
Speaker 2 (43:45):
So Houston.
Speaker 4 (43:48):
Is a lot like Clemson, which is the only team
that's beating Duke in forever, but betting better, much better
on defense, better on offense. The game will be slow,
and teams that play slow you are going to play
like they want you to play. You will not play fast.
I like Houston plus the five and a half older
guys twenty.
Speaker 2 (44:08):
Three year olds versus eighteen year olds. I like Houston.
Speaker 4 (44:12):
I think they're a great bad at plus five and
a half, and I would also take them on the
money line and win the things straight up to go
double Mike your thoughts on Duke and Houston Duke minus
five and a half at Pat Parks.
Speaker 3 (44:24):
I liked Florida and Houston coming in, so I'll took Florida,
I'll take Houston.
Speaker 2 (44:29):
I agree with all the things I do say.
Speaker 3 (44:31):
This though, I think Duke is good enough that I
respect the hell out of Houston. But if Duke gets
up in this game and they can control, and I
don't know if they can, I could see them covering
just because of them, not because of anything that Houston's not.
It would be a surprise to me if Duke doesn't
(44:51):
win this because, like I said, you, like.
Speaker 2 (44:54):
Three weeks we were sitting there like three weeks ago,
trying to feel, well, was Houston the best team? Is
this the bat? And I said to this, I said,
you know, maybe Duke's just the best team. They played
like it. Yeah, maybe I'm wrong. They played I thought
was the best. Nobody likes Duke, so nobody voots for Duke.
I get that. But and I would rather see one
of these. This isn't the most hateable Dukee team, So
I'll give him around long enough.
Speaker 3 (45:14):
Yeah I hate him yet, No, you're right, And what's
the hate about Cooper? This is his third or fourth
year shot, third year, third Yeah, and they've been I
mean they'd been really good all Shure year.
Speaker 2 (45:23):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (45:24):
Uh.
Speaker 2 (45:24):
He retold his team they'd lost like three or four
guys of.
Speaker 4 (45:27):
The portal last year. And he brings in these stars
and he's got more stars coming.
Speaker 3 (45:31):
So why has he been able to follow a legend
rather successfully where a lot of other guys kind of struggle.
Speaker 2 (45:38):
Yeah, I mean it's a really good point.
Speaker 3 (45:41):
I think he was there long enough where he had
a real sense of how they do it.
Speaker 2 (45:47):
And if the Duke does win this title, he'll be the.
Speaker 4 (45:50):
First player in history to win at his alma mater
as a player at.
Speaker 5 (45:54):
A coach which what team was he on that was
a team that beat So I did see his because
there's really great parallels in what's happening in North Carolina
and Duke and that these legendary coaches go away and
then you have to figure it out without them, And
so I saw this story that Duke got help. I
mean they have almost it's run like a front office.
(46:16):
There's like ten almost gms whatever it is, front office
people helping them run this entire thing. And it's helped
them get more portal players, more money, and so they've
been able to do it without shy or doing too much,
without him doing everything, and it's been almost the exact
opposite North Carolina. It's just like a couple of people
really running it, and Hubert Davis was really like the
guy at the top doing almost everything and I think
(46:38):
it's no coincidence that he is the one struggling right now.
So I just think Duke is really caught onto this
is the way this needs to be structured moving forward.
Speaker 2 (46:46):
And I'll give Villanova credit. I know they do it too.
Speaker 5 (46:48):
They have something similar, Yeah, exactly, and I think teams
are getting there, but Duke seems to have gotten that
right from the job.
Speaker 2 (46:55):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (46:55):
North Carolina finally hired one of those this year. They
realize that they've gotten behind the curve on that.
Speaker 3 (47:00):
But yeah, I think the fact that coach k was
so big a part of USA basketball, he understood that
he'd been around pros. I think that was huge, and
he obviously loved the program.
Speaker 2 (47:09):
And in great shape.
Speaker 4 (47:10):
I mean, Duke was in the final four, lost to
that Hubert Davis team in North Carolina in the final
four in K's last game. But yeah, Shire's done a
phenomenal job. And again beyond just the accumulation of talent,
when you watch them play and everybody will see it tonight,
they run.
Speaker 2 (47:26):
Some great stuff.
Speaker 3 (47:27):
It's just going to be fascinating because to me, they
don't really have a point guard. I would say Flag
is almost their point guard. That that was why Purdue.
Speaker 4 (47:36):
Was able to hang in the game because Houston made
a rare tactical mistake by Kelvin Sampson did they for
some reason, and I don't know why they kept doing this.
They were blitzing every ball screen with Smith. Well, they
kept re screening over and over and over again, and
then Smith would eventually get clear to throw it to
somebody for a wide open shot.
Speaker 2 (47:55):
You can't do that against Duke.
Speaker 3 (47:56):
You better be able to guard your man, and Houston
has guys that can guard men.
Speaker 2 (48:01):
That's what they do.
Speaker 4 (48:02):
But it's gonna be fascinating chess match in addition to
everything else. But I am definitely looking forward to just
seeing how that game plays out.
Speaker 2 (48:09):
John, your selection in this contest is so.
Speaker 5 (48:13):
I love both of these teams. These are two of
the teams that I loved coming into the tournament.
Speaker 2 (48:17):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (48:18):
I love the style. As you said, it's really style
vers talent. And not to say Duke doesn't have style,
but this is really like this is it Houston gets
by on stylistically what they do.
Speaker 2 (48:29):
Yep.
Speaker 5 (48:29):
I just think the talent's a little bit too much.
This is usually this would be a game I take
the team with a lot more upper class leadership, a
really great coach, and I think Sampson has been the
best coach in college basketball this year, and I think
he's been the best coach in this tournament. But they've
done an awesome job, and it's very reminiscent of kind
of what Jay Wright and Villanova do. They're gonna grind
out these really slow games, They're gonna play well at
(48:51):
the end, and that's how they're gonna pull away, and
that's how they're gonna win. But I just think that's
that's a tough task for any team. I think Duke's
the best team in the tournament remaining. They've been the
best team all tournament long, and I think Duke's gonna
win the whole thing. So I'm I'm in on Duke.
I think it's gonna be a bit overwhelmed.
Speaker 2 (49:07):
You'll get the five and a half.
Speaker 5 (49:09):
Yeah, after watching Houston's defense last week against Tennessee, I
know Duke is gonna be It was unreal.
Speaker 2 (49:16):
It was unreal.
Speaker 5 (49:18):
Obviously, I think Duke is the better team UH over Tennessee,
so they're gonna have their work cutout for him. But Dick,
to your point, I think five and a half is
old a little too high, So I won't go as
far as taking the money line, but with a five
and a half point spread, I really like Houston to
keep this potentially a one possession game coming down to
(49:41):
the final shot.
Speaker 2 (49:42):
I think Houston's defense is just way too old. What
is the money line? Duke? Like ten? Uh, Duke minus
to sixty five, you got to lay to sixty five
plus two ten on Houston.
Speaker 5 (49:54):
Houston's plus two ten, Duke's minus two sixty five.
Speaker 2 (49:57):
That's a lot. That's a big number. That's a lot.
I think it should be closerly two two and a half.
Speaker 3 (50:01):
Yeah, I mean the metrics have it at two point
game the metrics site that I use as it's sixty
eight sixty six.
Speaker 5 (50:08):
Duke, I just see it being a back and forth
the entire time. I mean, it's such an intriguing matchup. Yeah,
So it is intrigued, It really is. So there's many
overlook things I think about Duke. First, they're top ten and.
Speaker 3 (50:22):
Three point percentage, two point percentage, and free throw percentage
just out of the top ten.
Speaker 2 (50:26):
Those are some tremendous numbers over a season. And their
defense is right up there with the best of the country.
Speaker 4 (50:32):
I'm talking Duke now, it's probably the best defensive defensive team.
They're so big they can all block shots they get
in passing lanes. I mean, they're just fundamentally sound. It's
a beautifully coached team.
Speaker 2 (50:43):
Here's the thing where.
Speaker 4 (50:44):
I think Houston's biggest edge is Houston not only controls
the pace of the game, they hold the ball longer
on offense than any team in the country.
Speaker 2 (50:55):
They're right up there. It's a long offensive possessions that
means you're playing all defense. And when they're on defense,
they played long possessions.
Speaker 4 (51:04):
So every possession is just to grind it out in
a time of possession thing.
Speaker 2 (51:11):
If you kept it would favor Houston.
Speaker 4 (51:14):
It's not a number anybody keeps in basketball, and that
over time can wear teams out.
Speaker 2 (51:20):
We'll see if it's able to do that against Duke.
I don't know that it will be.
Speaker 3 (51:24):
These four teams combined one hundred and thirty five and sixteen.
Speaker 2 (51:29):
I mean, this is as good a Final four as
we've ever had.
Speaker 3 (51:32):
And it's interesting. The only team with NBA guys is Due.
I don't know Florida. I don't know that they have
NBA guys. I mean maybe Walter Clayton's a draft Joyce Sean.
Where is Walter Clayton on anybody's draft boards.
Speaker 2 (51:48):
There'll be a first dround pick, probably late lottery.
Speaker 3 (51:51):
Late lottery, all right, so maybe he is getting picked,
must have been normally they don't like those guys.
Speaker 6 (51:55):
How about Broom, Broom not as much of a lock.
He seems kind of probably a second round guy if anything.
Speaker 2 (52:02):
Okay, Uh? Is Eric Dixon a lottery pick?
Speaker 6 (52:04):
By the way, I think he should get an NBA look,
but I haven't seen his name pretty much anyway.
Speaker 2 (52:10):
Anybody on Houston L J.
Speaker 6 (52:13):
Cryer will likely sneak into the second round. But that's
about it.
Speaker 2 (52:16):
Okay, So there you go to me that tells you that.
Speaker 5 (52:18):
Yeah, I mean, dude, if it's not only NBA time,
I mean Cooper Flag easily, but he's a ten year
All Star or whatever many years.
Speaker 2 (52:27):
He wants to play. If Duke wins this game and covers,
if they win, they win it because of their defense.
Speaker 3 (52:32):
Hey, I don't think it's because because they could hold
that to a number week in the fifties.
Speaker 2 (52:38):
Yes, they could. Duke could get you know, to seven,
a low possession game. You can keep a team in
the fifties. If Houston's not making nobody thinks plays defense. No,
they're really because they're duke. No, they're sensation. Yeah, I
mean they're all the numbers are screaming.
Speaker 3 (52:51):
This is a top five defensive team in the country.
And that I mean, that's why they've had so many blowouts.
And the other thing Houston has gone for him they
have played in a way better lead.
Speaker 4 (53:01):
So all of a sudden Duke which is just stomped
people over and over again.
Speaker 3 (53:05):
They're not stopping this team. That's just not gonna happen.
I mean, they're not gonna They're not stoppable just because
the way they play. I don't see that happen. We're
gonna take a break. We're gonna come back and talk
about the What is it like the Valero Open.
Speaker 2 (53:24):
Texas? Are you gonna talk baseball? Speaking?
Speaker 3 (53:30):
I got I got the I got the one baseball
bet you have to make you do?
Speaker 2 (53:35):
Yes, I do you get for text from? But meanwhile, uh,
I got I got ranch. Probably you have rans. Probably
sounds like we got golf.

don't know what else will have Liverpool?
Speaker 2 (54:26):
Does Liverpool play today? Liverpool? It does not play today.
I believe they play tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (54:31):
They give him the trophy yet, Yeah, they've just a
back got the eel want it's just about from man.
Speaker 2 (54:36):
City's leaving right there. Yeah, he's old, he's old browner.
Yeah he's gone gone, yeah, gone out of here. He's
he's going to the six ers. But he won six sixty.
City did well, but I'm sick of that. Get him
out of here, all right. We got to get out

at this.

Speaker 2 (55:56):
It's all happening in San Antonio.
Speaker 4 (55:58):
Uh, Mike, we have Brian Harmon and the League by
like four, I think, what what do we got?
Speaker 2 (56:06):
Odds?
Speaker 3 (56:06):
I'm also going into the We'll give you a few
little Masters odds.
Speaker 2 (56:10):
We like that Masters next week.
Speaker 3 (56:12):
I would do one of two things this week. I
would either bet Harmon at two to one. You're getting
four shots leading by four, so okay, they're giving you
four shots. Yep, he's won a British Open. You may
not win this. But if I was going to be
late by four, he's by four. If I was going
to bet one of the guys that are trying to
catch him, I would go with Sam Ryder who was
(56:33):
five back twenty to one, and he finished third or
fourth in this tournament a couple of years.
Speaker 2 (56:38):
And we gave you the Australian last week. What was
this Lee? What was this price?
Speaker 4 (56:43):
Like eight seven, six and a half for six and
a half to seven. We gave him out to beat Scottie.
Speaker 3 (56:47):
At he held the almost Scott Scotty almost came back.
Speaker 2 (56:52):
I know I was. And then we'll put it in
the drink late in the round.
Speaker 3 (56:56):
Yes, I hate it when they do that, unless it's
the guy I'm trying to catch. The mid moves pretty
good golf for I mean, he's young and he's probably okay.
So next week at the Masters and you hold all
the masters? Where what is the price on my man?
Denny mcarthury? Do you have his price?
Speaker 2 (57:14):
I can find it, Jenny MacCarthy. Denny McCarthy. I believe
he's in contententarthy. Hold no, he I saw his name. Yeah,
hold on, he's like maybe six or seven back. Yeah,
he is seven back? And what is his price? Let's
see what we got here? Hang on?
Speaker 3 (57:32):
That's my pick? Twenty five Denny McCarthy, twenty five. Just
go to the windows. He's gonna he's gonna shoot like
sixty five sixty five and win.
Speaker 2 (57:42):
Clear. Okay, Well, actually the.
Speaker 3 (57:44):
Guy that wins clear can't lee is kind of in
this can't irritates me.
Speaker 2 (57:48):
Yeah, he's eleven to one. He's still it.
Speaker 4 (57:51):
Yeah, I'll give me twenty five, okay, Man MacArthur.
Speaker 2 (57:55):
Mike, Okay. So next week, next week, we all know
who the favorite is.
Speaker 3 (57:59):
It's Scotty, who's won this twice in the last three years.
Speaker 2 (58:03):
If my good golf correct, he is. He's plus three eight,
but he hasn't won this year. If is a bump,
well he hears handed Christmas. I don't care. He almost
won last week, he almost won, but almost. They don't
pay you for that.
Speaker 3 (58:18):
They do pay you, they just don't pay it.
Speaker 2 (58:22):
That's that's a good point. He's still getting money for
a second and goal.
Speaker 3 (58:25):
Second favorite is Rory six point fifty who has an
elbow issue.
Speaker 2 (58:30):
He was while he was talking about that.
Speaker 3 (58:32):
He's getting champed for it, and he has not won
this major and he's been signing for ten years and
this is his eleventh time he's teed it up or
tenth time in Augusta with a chance to complete Colin
Moore cow who has been playing with fifteen.
Speaker 2 (58:47):
To one, Ludvay seventeen to one. John Ram, who is
my pick.
Speaker 3 (58:53):
In my pool, who won this I think two years ago.
Speaker 2 (58:57):
I am not on the live.
Speaker 3 (58:58):
He's on the live and see that's probably they don't
know what what's their form is. But John Bram's record
of Augusta before, I don't think he played well last year,
but his record like it was one of the best
records that he.
Speaker 2 (59:11):
Always plays well.
Speaker 3 (59:12):
Bryce and d Chambeau I don't think has done much
since winning the Open last year, but you don't have
to do much when you win the Open. It's twenty
one Xanders twenty one, Justin's twenty four Uh Kopka another
l I v guy who's got five majors thirty one.
Uh you don't like can'tley now? Jordan Spief who's won
(59:32):
of majors thirty two.
Speaker 5 (59:35):
Uh, val tours all the way down at forty five. Well,
somebody's got to be my pick. True Ludwig, Yeah, seventeen
it is. Can I just say it is amazing for this,
this show, this program, that Ludwig is a good golfer.
Speaker 2 (59:51):
We are, we are his biggest fans. We are, we are.
There are no bigger fans of Ludvig.
Speaker 3 (59:57):
What did I tell you two years ago when he
was coming ou Yeah, yeah, he did.
Speaker 2 (01:00:02):
Some of these guys like more Cow was kind of
like we were following him when he was just a baby.
Speaker 3 (01:00:06):
So four weeks ago, at this time, I drove by
Oh that's right, Oberg Avenue in mad Wisconsin. While I
was talking to you guys on the phone. I took
that as a positive sign for the mask. What was
my man trying to show you over there? Somebody was
trying to show me a ticket?
Speaker 5 (01:00:22):
Then ticket probably whatever it is, I imagine, not a winner.
Speaker 2 (01:00:26):
So the Fasters next week the Valerio Texas.
Speaker 3 (01:00:31):
Open I will make a prediction Room will not finish
in the top twenty next week. I'm fading because I
got him, because you have John Ram He's out.
Speaker 2 (01:00:40):
Yeah, No, he'll be my guy this week.
Speaker 3 (01:00:43):
I had Fleetwood this week. Okay, I haven't cashed in
like a month. I'm still in third place for what reasons.
I don't know the victory.
Speaker 2 (01:00:48):
He was five.
Speaker 3 (01:00:49):
He was like in fifth place after the first round.
He's in thirty seventh place. Now, like, how do you
do that? No?
Speaker 2 (01:00:57):
All right, a couple couple others, do you want to
or you can stand ran? Yeah, okay, he's already fired.
I got a couple, so I'll go. Okay, here he
got one. Now one letter. I'm gonna say this Toush push.
Speaker 3 (01:01:12):
I don't want to hear about the Toush push any more.
I don't want to hear from Philadelphia people telling me
that the whole world hates them again, which may be.
Speaker 2 (01:01:23):
True, Gym saying when I went actually.
Speaker 3 (01:01:26):
Went and looked this up in two thousand and four,
they changed the rule so that you could push. Now,
why it took people twenty years to figure it out?
I give the Eagles all the credit in the world.
For figuring this out and making it work. They've changed
it because the officials said they were having a hard
time calling it downfield. I don't understand that at all.
(01:01:46):
You guys either pushing you or isn't pushing you one.
Speaker 2 (01:01:48):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:01:49):
So the other day on the radio, I'm listening and
they had the stat the Eagles in the last two
years have converted ninety one percent of their toush pushes.
Speaker 2 (01:01:58):
You know what they converted in twenty fo when it
was just a quarterback sneak.
Speaker 5 (01:02:04):
Two?
Speaker 3 (01:02:06):
What do we care? And I said this two years ago.
I hate the play. Nothing to do with the Eagles.
I don't the Eagles want to run in one hundred times,
run one hundred times and you win, win Super Bowl.
It is not a football play. You can't run up.
First of all, you got a quarterback to convence press
six hundred or whatever he does align to that ways
at average of three thirty. Why do you need somebody
(01:02:29):
pushing somebody? But again that's me I think now the league.
The league got embarrassed in the Washington game when that
guy jumped over the pile five times and they said
this looks stupid, and again and again the commissioner wants
to get rid of it.
Speaker 2 (01:02:44):
You can tell by the way he's maneuverals. Eagles will
be fine, folks, They'll be absolutely fine.
Speaker 3 (01:02:49):
And if you want to go through life thinking that
this announcer don't like you and this league don't like you,
it fine.
Speaker 2 (01:02:55):
So here's my problem.
Speaker 3 (01:02:56):
My problem is very simple disingenuousness.
Speaker 2 (01:03:00):
People are getting hurt.
Speaker 3 (01:03:03):
No, you're right, they're just made it up. And you
know what, Mike, I just thought of this the analogy.
I'll never forget this.
Speaker 2 (01:03:09):
This has been I.
Speaker 3 (01:03:09):
Don't know how long. Remember after nine to eleven, everybody
was banning everything, right, the Eagles banned people from bringing
hogies into the stadium because they said it was a
safety thing.
Speaker 2 (01:03:20):
No, it wasn't. You wanted to sell them. That's the opportunity.
Speaker 3 (01:03:27):
Put a picture of Jeff Hogi gate Gate Glori was
in a hogy.
Speaker 2 (01:03:32):
His head was in a hogy.
Speaker 5 (01:03:33):
That's just an opportunity knock and it's it was it
just I totally agree with that.
Speaker 2 (01:03:38):
I totally agree with that.
Speaker 3 (01:03:40):
To put it again, I never liked the plot, so
I'm not coming from an angle.
Speaker 2 (01:03:44):
I just don't lie about it.
Speaker 3 (01:03:45):
But yeah, but the Eagles converted apparently just as many
times when it was just jailing doing whatever JA does.
Speaker 5 (01:03:54):
I do agree that you if you want to look
at the play and like maybe get some kind of
argument long term health issues.
Speaker 2 (01:04:01):
I don't think it's short term health stuff.
Speaker 5 (01:04:02):
This is it's a play that's very dangerous because you're
clashing heads. And Jason Kelsey has said for the longest time,
like it hurts, you know, I'm hitting my head. It's
so if it's long term health issues, fine, but my
problem with that is the disingenuous part. They're like, well,
you want to add twenty games and you want to
play Thursday night football? Yeah, hell yeah, play Wednesday night
football if you want to, then you don't care about health.
Is saying that's that's where the argument is.
Speaker 2 (01:04:23):
Just guys are.
Speaker 3 (01:04:24):
Absolutely correct that the NFL. But then that's the NFL.
Let the defensive guys push yo.
Speaker 2 (01:04:31):
Let somebody het up behind the nose guard fire shut
up exactly.
Speaker 3 (01:04:36):
That's my point on a quarterback sneak.
Speaker 2 (01:04:39):
They way too much is made of this.
Speaker 5 (01:04:41):
Yeah, I see it from from both sides here of
the spectrum. On one side, you have teams that are
complaining about it. Coach is complaining about it. If it's unfair,
how come you're not doing it exactly the stupid But
at the same time, to Mike's point, Philly needs to
shut up about it because we have one of these
strong get quarterbacks in the NFL, one of the strongest
(01:05:02):
running backs.
Speaker 2 (01:05:03):
He can do it by himself. We're gonna he can't
get mad about it. For the reasons that Dick said
they did. They did. They're being disingenuous about.
Speaker 3 (01:05:10):
But what I'm saying is I don't want to see Dallas,
Goddard and and Barkley pushing I think it looks stupid.
And then what's going to happen is what Washington tried
to do in that game. Other teams are gonna try
to do stuff like that, and one time a guy's
gonna come over the top somehow and hit whatever, hit
the quarterback and everybody's gonna go nuts. No, just let
(01:05:30):
him run a quarterback sneak, which you have been doing
since nineteen thirty five.
Speaker 5 (01:05:34):
If it stays, the Eagles are gonna be fine. If
it goes, the Eagles are gonna gonna be fine. What
are they gonna win five games this year because they
don't have the touch.
Speaker 2 (01:05:42):
Push all right, So we got that out of the work.
Not push that one out of the couple.
Speaker 3 (01:05:48):
A couple of hoops thoughts. You got women annihilated U
c l a last night bike, but annihilated everybody.
Speaker 2 (01:06:00):
Like a five to six point favorite tomorrow against South
Carolina five and a half, five and a.
Speaker 4 (01:06:05):
Half point favorite against South Carolina. Mike, you've been all
over the Yukons. You like them again tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (01:06:12):
My dilemma is Dawn is my favorite, one of my
favorite women's players ever because I like point guards. I
mean Diana Taraski I really liked a lot too. This
Becker's kid is really likable, all Scatelan Clark pretty good.
I remember Dean Kennerfiict the s id at Nova, a
great guy, and we talked before the tournament. I said, Gino,
like you know, and I think they would have beat
(01:06:35):
USC even if Juju.
Speaker 2 (01:06:36):
Played, it might not have been the way they beat him.
Speaker 3 (01:06:39):
I just think Yukon is they're they're they're almost like
on a mission. And as much as I like Dawn,
this is probably not her best team.
Speaker 2 (01:06:47):
They're they're really good. And they did lose to Yukon
at that's my thirties.
Speaker 3 (01:06:51):
See, that's the reason the seventy one game on Winning
Street to South that's the only thing that has me.
But but I gotta go with Yukon in February. They
didn't get rid in November. Yeah, they went there. Maybe
it's just a bad man, but I think Gino hasn't
won in nine years.
Speaker 2 (01:07:06):
He's a bump. He's due. You can just see it.
You can just kind of see it. Yeah. I watched
about ten or fifteen minutes last night and they.
Speaker 3 (01:07:17):
Just how many points did the other team score in
those ten or fifteen minutes?
Speaker 2 (01:07:20):
Like ten?
Speaker 4 (01:07:21):
Yeah, maybe they they had more turnovers than points. UCLA
and they wouldn't let them run their offense. Ukon runs
a lot of intricate stuff. They got a lot of
players that can really shoot. They got a great freshman.
I'd be surprised if they didn't win the game. Clear, John,
you got an opinion on Yukon and South Carolina.
Speaker 5 (01:07:39):
I would like to see page Buckets winning. Yeah, absolutely, Yeah,
I'll go with that page back. She's had a remarkable career. Obviously,
injuries and things like that happened, so it'd be nuts.
Speaker 2 (01:07:48):
She could she could have been Kaitlyn.
Speaker 3 (01:07:49):
She was in the same high school class as Kitlyn
Mark and was more highly towned, yes, coming out of
high school, but has had all these injuries.
Speaker 2 (01:07:56):
H Kyle, you gotta thought on the women's championship game
in Tampa, Florida. Not really alright withal though I'm rooting
for Dalton.
Speaker 4 (01:08:06):
Yeah, down by the way is it's not didn't happen
this year, but it's going to happen at some point.
Speaker 2 (01:08:11):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:08:12):
She's already in the Hall of Fame as a player.
She's gonna get there again as a John Wooden did that,
Lenny Wilkins has done that.
Speaker 2 (01:08:20):
There's a couple others through the years, but not many.
Speaker 3 (01:08:22):
Doc Rivers, not not in as a coach at the moment.
Speaker 4 (01:08:29):
Jerry Weston, you are three three times as a player,
an executive, and a contributor. The only I.
Speaker 5 (01:08:34):
Do want to shout out because you mentioned Caitlyn Clark
and there was one that got to there's never Caitlyn
Clark's status to what she is, but uh, pretty big
around this area.
Speaker 2 (01:08:43):
Elena del Dog just retired.
Speaker 5 (01:08:46):
Great player. I remember that when she was playing in Delaware.
How huge of the story that was here? Yes, she
had a remarkable.
Speaker 2 (01:08:53):
Being a champion.
Speaker 4 (01:08:54):
She was a native of Delaware, went to Yukon, it
didn't work out, was there for a year, and came
home at Delaware. I don't even if she lasted a year,
just didn't work at Yukon with the whatever.
Speaker 2 (01:09:04):
Yeah it was, but yeah, no, that's a great Thank
you John for bringing that up.
Speaker 3 (01:09:08):
Also, this afternoon, the other final four in Vegas, in
front of friends and family blocked in. We have friends, families,
and a bunch of degenerations. We have Nebraska and Boise State.
And by the way, I don't know if anybody's seen Nebraska,
they have a they have some really good players on
their team. I'm not at all surprised they're still playing. Uh,
they just happen to fade down a stretch. And then
(01:09:30):
in the second game Llanova and UCF.
Speaker 2 (01:09:34):
The Cats are like a three and a half point favorite.
Speaker 4 (01:09:37):
The entire Kyle Neptune's staff is still there coaching, and
they are coaching and the team is playing. Congratulations to
Eric Dixon who set the all time scoring record. It
was interesting stat I saw people were saying, well, he
played five years, he played.
Speaker 2 (01:09:49):
More games minutes exact same amount of minutes as Kerrie
Kittles in his career. Remember, Eric Dixon was a backup.
Speaker 5 (01:09:55):
Ye had the tighty Rigsby talked about that in the
Villain of a sports media and that's that surprising.
Speaker 2 (01:10:01):
Yeah the minute.
Speaker 3 (01:10:03):
So yeah, So congratulations to Advacan High Schools Eric Dixon
all time leading scorer. Uh at Villanova and the Wildcats
are playing for the Crown and the championship.
Speaker 2 (01:10:14):
Yeah, they are the favorite. I assume the championship game is.
Do we know where the championship game is? Sunday? Sunday
five thirty. Okay, that's fine.
Speaker 3 (01:10:22):
In front of friends that they played today and tomorrow,
it's gonna be back to back days.
Speaker 2 (01:10:25):
You got an opinion on the on the crown era, Uh,
what a weird tournament.
Speaker 3 (01:10:29):
I know, boys, he almost made the tournament they did,
which I guess Villanova can say.
Speaker 2 (01:10:35):
That they did not almost make anything.
Speaker 3 (01:10:37):
I mean, look, I was a little disappointed by to
win the other night only because USC stinks, and but
they won. They just so you know, I mean, you know,
let's go Cats. I mean you know, I mean I
feel good for the kids. Maybe they salvie something, a
little something and if they win the whole thing. I
guess they can always say that, but you know, we're
(01:10:58):
just I just think it'd be great for Mike Nardi
then wins this like he'll get looks at all, even
if it's on the bench, but assistant.
Speaker 5 (01:11:06):
I do think he's head coach. Absolutely No, that'd be
great for him.
Speaker 2 (01:11:10):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:11:10):
I mean he's given a lot to BUILDOVA so because
it actually Howard's on that staff, right, Yeah, he's given a.
Speaker 2 (01:11:15):
Lot to know.
Speaker 3 (01:11:18):
Final fourteen Yeah, No, really good people and they're probably
going to be looking for jobs, possibly all of them.
Speaker 4 (01:11:25):
Who knows what the new coach is gonna do. Hey, Sean,
I got a question for you. I'm a huge Bryce
Williams fan. He's the star for Nebraska.
Speaker 2 (01:11:32):
Is he on any draft boards? Because I love this guy.
Speaker 6 (01:11:35):
I have not seen him. I'll keep a closer eye.
Let me scrawls through a couple of things, but I
don't think so.
Speaker 2 (01:11:40):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:11:40):
Bryce Williams forty seven percent from the field, thirty seven
from three, eighty nine from the foul line, averages twenty
and a half a game. If you have If you're
bored this afternoon, I assume it's like on f fun
Fox somewhere watch him.
Speaker 2 (01:11:53):
He is a hell of a player.
Speaker 5 (01:11:54):
For he's a shooting guard twenty three too, really good player,
establishment player.
Speaker 2 (01:12:00):
To me, he's an NBA player.
Speaker 3 (01:12:01):
I don't know what that works sometimes, Kyle, that works
against you six seven shooting because they want nineteen year
old guys. Yeah, that is a problem. Uh so we
got that.
Speaker 4 (01:12:11):
So on the baseball Giant, I know you wanted to
talk of baseball today.
Speaker 2 (01:12:15):
Phillies off to a sensational start six and one, six
and one, six and one.
Speaker 3 (01:12:19):
Pitching has been incredible, starting pitching. I got, I got
a bet on a Dodgers undefeated until last night. The
Padres were undefeated until last night. Did the Braves win?
Finally they did? They finally had they went the Braves
were oz and what seven and they finally want a game? Uh, Mike,
(01:12:40):
what do you want? Where do you want to go?
Speaker 5 (01:12:41):
There?
Speaker 2 (01:12:41):
Phillies to win the division?
Speaker 3 (01:12:43):
There plus one fifteen I think I saw. Now I
know that's there's no way either the division. Yeah, because
now by September, could the Braves be a really good
team and maybe do what the Phillies did two years ago?
But now I know Profar came play in the playoffs,
they get there, but they'll have their picture back, you
know if and they'll have a coon you're back.
Speaker 2 (01:13:04):
It's going to take there.
Speaker 3 (01:13:05):
They're not going to beat the Phillies because they're not
gonna be And the Mets, I don't think are as
good as the Phillies. I think the Phillies gonna win
around ninety five Robbie and but I think I don't
know if would have said this a week and a
half ago, before I knew what was gonna happen. But
I think the Phillies are are as close to a
lock as you can get in.
Speaker 2 (01:13:22):
A good division. I mean, that's a good division. I
think the Mets are good. I don't think either of
those teams are beat not the Phillies. Starting pitching that
we've seen is anything like this.
Speaker 3 (01:13:31):
I mean, God, you know the Wheelers almost right, exactly,
eighteen strikeouts, two walks.
Speaker 5 (01:13:40):
What about Sanchez Sanchez Nol's giving up and you might get.
Speaker 3 (01:13:45):
You might get Suarez back at some point, I don't notice.
Speaker 2 (01:13:48):
You might get Painter. Well, he's you know, it's very
interesting just the way that what's the story on this
closer by the way he goes terrible. Yeah, he hasn't
looked bad. Yeah, I mean, yeah, he looked terrible.
Speaker 5 (01:14:04):
Yeah, he was a bit signing. He was a little
iffy last year. But before that, years past.
Speaker 3 (01:14:09):
Alvarado didn't look real good in his But you know
what's been better, he's been better. I think his stuff
looks great. It's just it's gonna dial in and stuff
looks And by the way, Schwarber can hit wherever. You know,
this thing about their lineup that should have been another
rant like last week, I don't care where.
Speaker 2 (01:14:24):
They bat anything.
Speaker 3 (01:14:27):
People tell me, people keep you can't win with Schwarber
batting leadoff. Well, I don't know. I watched him the
last three years. They looked pretty good. Okay, I know
that Trey Turner should be the leadoff hitter. I get it,
that's what you got him for. But all Schwarber does
is hit forty home runs. So if he hits him
as the four spot or hit some leading off, oh
(01:14:49):
I don't I don't care.
Speaker 5 (01:14:51):
I guess that the logic is there's bound to be
more people on base when you're right. But the fact
sward that he let off and he had a three
run home run, and when he was in the clear
up he had a solo home run. It doesn't matter,
does none of it matters?
Speaker 2 (01:15:04):
When Sar can't believe this is still like a conversation.
Speaker 3 (01:15:07):
Having three years when Schwarmer was the leadoff hitter is
not the reason the Phillies stopped hitting in the playoff
for the last three years. They stopped hitting because they stopped hitting.
That's just because they were swinging the balls in the dirt,
because they were that that's why they lost. So again,
if you want to batch swar third or fourth, fat,
I'm fine with.
Speaker 5 (01:15:27):
Dinup construction at this in in this era of Major
League Baseball, maybe before they did try and do like
the Phillies had the most traditional kind of lineup back
in the back in the day, the World Series team
that was about as traditional as it gets. But that
that's not a thing anymore. Showy leads off. That's why
the judges. Yes, and Jimmy Rollins was not quintessential.
Speaker 2 (01:15:49):
He was actually not.
Speaker 5 (01:15:50):
Yeah, but again but he's he had speed and they
could steal basis. But Topper combatum construction is just it's
not a thing to me.
Speaker 3 (01:15:59):
I don't you want to lead Bryce Harps, especially on
lead Bryce HOPPERO I don't care. It's April fifth, I
don't care what the lineup.
Speaker 2 (01:16:06):
That is awesome, you know.
Speaker 5 (01:16:08):
It's funny though, just the way the numbers work. Again,
it's April fifth, I don't care. But the Braves are
in third place at three to one to win, uh
the NL East. But they're also third to win the
World Series at plus eight fifty.
Speaker 2 (01:16:24):
Because you only have to be hot in October time. Yeah,
you don't have to exactly.
Speaker 5 (01:16:28):
That just goes to show that it doesn't matter, you know,
too much of a reflection of what's going, isn't it
kind of just.
Speaker 3 (01:16:33):
The weird Philadelphians are not happy unless they're bitching about something.
I'm really serious. Diagles won a Super Bowl three months
because it's boring talk are pitching about their off season. Hey,
how about we like get to September, see what the
team looks like and play some games.
Speaker 5 (01:16:52):
Yeah, and even I will admit, so you come up
with the win the NA least. I have made that
verdict as well, that I actually came into this season
a little bit. I wasn't a lineup because there are
guys that probably their best years are behind them, like
we're getting to that point. But still, this is a
good lineup. The pitching I thought was always going to
be great. It was just mostly I needed to see
(01:17:13):
the lineup an action. Are these guys gonna have down years?
Speaker 2 (01:17:16):
Good? They're They're just fine. I think it's a very
game pitch last night.
Speaker 3 (01:17:21):
Yeah, if that's what he's as like from what he
was two years ago, right or three years when he
had the real good year. And Sanchez looks like, I mean,
you've got you've got one of the best pitchers in baseball.
I mean now Noel almost looks like the four starter. Well,
if he's very well, if he's my four starter, that's
pretty good. I would say this about Wheeler if you
(01:17:42):
have one game in a lifetime and I want him
started the game.
Speaker 2 (01:17:45):
Yes, that's how much I think of him. I think
I saw don't take him out like when he hit
seventy pitcher.
Speaker 3 (01:17:52):
I think I saw a stat in one hundred and
thirty five starts as a.
Speaker 2 (01:17:55):
Philly he is last game, he's gonna pitch of the year.
Speaker 5 (01:17:57):
He has had ninety one quality starts in a whole
thirty five starts.
Speaker 2 (01:18:00):
I just lost that's impossible. Thank you, met.
Speaker 3 (01:18:04):
I wasn't watching a lot of the Phillies games this
week one of the great free agents signings.
Speaker 2 (01:18:08):
Yeah really, and I didn't like it. I didn't like it.
They signed Bryce Harper and the still might be a
better sign up.
Speaker 3 (01:18:14):
I wasn't watching the Phillies games this week, but every
time I would call it up, like she would score
one nothing Phillies to nothing Phillies. And the one game
they were losing one nothing in like the seven, I
said they're gonna win. Yeah, yeah, and they scored four
runs like in the next inning.
Speaker 2 (01:18:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:18:28):
If you have If you have a takeaway from very
early on, it's the bats get hot later in the game.
They're very stagnant early on, but a win to win,
so it doesn't matter. And the biggest thing you're looking for,
for John's point is when you hit the dog days
of summer and then you have the final stretch, how
is this aging team, for lack of better terms, gonna
match up for another October.
Speaker 2 (01:18:50):
I think they might have learned from last year.
Speaker 3 (01:18:52):
The two years before that they had to play because
they were trying to make the playoffs the one yard
and they were trying to catch the braves, and they didn't.
Speaker 2 (01:18:59):
Last year they were in that they didn't know what
to do in that position.
Speaker 3 (01:19:02):
But if they had the best team in baseball through
the first you know, a couple of months, Yeah, and
it was like, okay, now what are we doing?
Speaker 2 (01:19:07):
They had some injuries and whatever.
Speaker 3 (01:19:09):
I think the Phillies are going and I'm not saying
to win in the World Series, but they're they're and again.
Speaker 5 (01:19:14):
There's ebbs and flows of the season. They're gonna win
ninety plus games. Let's say if the Braves, and if.
Speaker 2 (01:19:18):
The Braves are a better team in October, well, then
good for the Braves. That's what the Phillies did three
years ago.
Speaker 5 (01:19:23):
Yeah, and if they still have the strikeout problem that
didn't go away. They strike out a lot, but they've
been able to survive and win a ton of games
despite that. And I still think they can and they will.
So that that was one thing I'm worried about, is
some of this stuff gonna catch up to them. And no,
they're They's still just a really great lineup.
Speaker 2 (01:19:40):
Maybe not to me.
Speaker 5 (01:19:41):
I don't think it's one of the best liners in baseball,
but it's really good. And you pair it with the
pitching depth that they have now. I think in the bullpen,
but starting rotation Christopher Sanchez. I mean that's that's one
of the top ten starting pitchers and the hard looking
looking that way?
Speaker 2 (01:19:54):
How at home? Yet home? Yeah, especially at home? How
hard does it defined?
Speaker 5 (01:19:58):
These quality left the starting pitchers, and the Phillies potentially
have three of them.
Speaker 2 (01:20:03):
When Ranger comes back, we are the amazing the painter
who knows what no, no, I mean position players real quick.
Speaker 5 (01:20:12):
Just as this adventure goes on the last thing I
want to see from the Phillies is if they can
continually win games without relying on home runs, because that's
been their biggest pet pet. The answers, no, Yeah, that's
been their biggest issue.
Speaker 2 (01:20:25):
John, If you have any baseball picks for us, can
we do it the next second? Yeah, after the break.
Speaker 4 (01:20:31):
Also, I want to get into, uh White Sox, the
one move that I thought the Eagles made out of
all the moves that or the guys that left one,
I don't understand. We'll get into that and then we'll
talk NBA playoffs because we're getting to the finish line here.
Speaker 3 (01:20:44):
Do you think they made a good move? Like, there's
a good move that you're gonna tell us they made.
Speaker 2 (01:20:48):
There's one look.
Speaker 3 (01:20:49):
I understood Sweat and Milton Williams. I got all that
they couldn't play him. I understand all that there was
one one play, one move. I just didn't really understand. Uh.
Speaker 2 (01:20:57):

Speaker 4 (01:22:41):
Yeah, I picked Houston to win it all. Dictarity Mike Current,
John Jansen, Kyle Nunnonmaker. So the one movie Eagles have
made that I didn't understand. Why did they need to
trade or did they trade C J. Gardner Johnson?
Speaker 5 (01:22:53):
Cause somebody explained that seems to be the one that
everybody has an issue with.
Speaker 2 (01:22:57):
What was it?
Speaker 3 (01:22:58):
I mean, look, I got most of the other guys.
They couldn't afford to keep them.
Speaker 2 (01:23:02):
I get it.
Speaker 3 (01:23:02):
They got to pay people eventually, John, Do you have
any reason.
Speaker 2 (01:23:06):
Why that happened.
Speaker 5 (01:23:07):
So the only thing I could come up with is
they do value draft picks. They value having and stockpiling
a bunch of draft picks because that means you have
the freedom to either make the pick or you can
package them together to move up in the draft or
to get somebody else. So I just think Howie Roseman sees, Okay,
I now have this opportunity to kind of maneuver around.
And also they do have a really good secondary, and
(01:23:31):
Howie Roseman has put his trust in young players, players
that they have drafted and use those draft picks on
and giving them opportunities, and it's worked. The thing is,
it's worked the past three years. And if that continues,
and I think he's going to continue to do that,
then yeah, they're in good shape.
Speaker 3 (01:23:46):
I had no problem with Slay, I got it mean him.
So the only problem is that with CJ. Garner Johnson,
I'm not sure if Sidney Brown or whoever it is
is capable of stepping out and.
Speaker 2 (01:23:58):
Gardner Johnson's younger slaves.
Speaker 3 (01:24:00):
Close to the end, yeah, he's probably got two great
cornerbacks that you.
Speaker 4 (01:24:04):
Can two great young cornerbacks to me, Gardner Johnson and
this is not a novel thought here. But he's been
on the team two years and they were to Super
Bowl both times, and he was really good both years.
I just didn't understand why this was like, this is
like a Sixers move.
Speaker 2 (01:24:20):
All right, We're going to trade a.
Speaker 4 (01:24:21):
Guy we know is good and can help us now
for something that might help us down the road, might
help us.
Speaker 2 (01:24:26):
The only other thing I didn't get.
Speaker 5 (01:24:28):
Yeah, the only thing I can think of is that
he was on the verge of asking for a lot
more money. Uh, and they wanted to get ahead of it,
and and you know again stuff I.
Speaker 2 (01:24:37):
Could always got ahead of it. He had a contract
for this year. Yeah. Right, That's the only thing I
can think of. That one baffled me a little bit.
Speaker 5 (01:24:44):
Outside of that, I don't know. But what the only
thing I'm thinking of is Howie Roseman. This is a
rare case where he was trying to outsmart himself.
Speaker 3 (01:24:51):
Yeah, but generally you say he's done the right, so
he gets the benefit of the doubt.
Speaker 2 (01:24:55):
If you're reading from listening or whatever. From from a farm.
Speaker 3 (01:24:59):
There were some that he was not a great presence
like him and Sligh had that thing going on where
they they had that Twitter war where they were calling
each other out about different stuff. How look how he's
in a unique position. It won a super Bowl. He
could go all in to try to win another one
next year, and you cement yourself to something different because
(01:25:20):
you would have won.
Speaker 2 (01:25:21):
Back to back. And I think how he's looking at it.
Speaker 3 (01:25:23):
I'm not saying he's not trying to win next year,
but he's looking at it long term, and he's saying,
I gotta sign my my nose guard.
Speaker 2 (01:25:29):
Understood. Understood.
Speaker 3 (01:25:30):
They're saving they're saving money, but they're not really well
in his in how he's mind not.
Speaker 2 (01:25:35):
I mean, there's they could do the same thing next year.
Speaker 4 (01:25:37):
That's my point. Well why do it now? Well he
was already under contract, he wasn't getting a Well.
Speaker 2 (01:25:42):
Then he goes back to the other reason that maybe
a yeah that much.
Speaker 5 (01:25:46):
It falls in line with how Howry Roseman again has
constructive teams. So sometimes I do it's okay to go
outside of what you might have smarty sticking to the
blueprint a little.
Speaker 2 (01:25:58):
Bit challous, callous gotter be gone. Now they need two new.
Speaker 3 (01:26:01):
Secondaries they needed, They need to need a corner to
take slaves place.
Speaker 2 (01:26:06):
I assume our man from Ioway is going to stay
in the slot.
Speaker 3 (01:26:10):
He's so good, I would hope, so why would not?
And they need a safety. And there's five defensive backs
these days, right they got they got the other young cornerback,
they got the other safety. So you have a ton
of draft picks though, but and again, and they obviously
like guys that.
Speaker 2 (01:26:24):
Are already there that are not going to get a change.
It's five months, five months for the season start. That
was That was the one that didn't get the right.
Speaker 3 (01:26:30):
I know nobody got that. And it sounds like Goddard.
If you listen to the coach the other day, he
could still be good.
Speaker 2 (01:26:36):
He could be gone, I think is oh no, he's
He basically said, yeah, he's still on the team.
Speaker 3 (01:26:41):
Yeah, that was an indicator that he's gone. I don't
want him gone either. I love him. Tyler Warren, well, yeah,
if you can get Tyler Warren, that's fine.
Speaker 2 (01:26:49):
But easier said than I.
Speaker 3 (01:26:53):
Don't think he's going to be around in the last
draft pick of the first.
Speaker 5 (01:26:56):
Round is Mike Current. Mike Kern, how do you feel
about uh, your boy Rock Powers. I mean you you
were were I remember talking about him two years ago.
Speaker 2 (01:27:04):
You said they.
Speaker 3 (01:27:06):
Guys were the linebacker from Alabama who's been great, and
brock Bauer, And as it turned out, jail and Quarter
turned out to be up there with those two guys.
I mean them getting jail in Quarter with the knife
Pitt and I get it. He had issues at Georgia.
Everybody has issues at Georgia. They drive too fast. Somebody
got killed. He might have played a role in it.
(01:27:27):
We don't know, you know, in the other car. But again,
he fell to the Eagles at nine.
Speaker 5 (01:27:32):
What's a bigger steel getting Jalen Corder at nine or
getting both Cooper de Jene and Quinnyon Mitchell in the
same draft.
Speaker 3 (01:27:39):
Remake one of the worst secondaries in the history of
the world. Overnight John Baseball picks, what have we got here?
Speaker 2 (01:27:45):
Yeah?
Speaker 5 (01:27:46):
I hate the first time I'm going with is a
run line. But I'm going with the run line. Poor
Bailey Falter, Poor poor Bailey Falter. He's going up against
who's he pitched for now, the Pirates, and he's going
up against the New York Yankees, who are absolutely murdering
baseballs this season.
Speaker 2 (01:28:06):
You have to lay three and a half runs in
that game.
Speaker 5 (01:28:09):
Thankfully, only one and a half and they're not too
big of a favorite because they are on the road,
so they're minus won seventy seven favorite. So I get
the run line at minus one twelve. I like that.
I think that's a good number to get, especially again
for a lineup that's probably going to mash in this game.
I imagine their team total's got to be five and
a half. So I would go over Marcus Strumman, and
(01:28:30):
he first start wasn't great, but it's the Pirates, it
doesn't matter. I like the Yankees a lot. I think
they're gonna match baseball there Aaron Judge, Yeah, that's not great.
I wonder if that ball is gonna land, Yeah, if
it ever does. I like also the Phillies minus one
fifteen a little bit risky because knowing the Dodgers lineup,
the potential for power against Aaron Nola, who is giving
(01:28:53):
up a lot of home runs. Yeah, he's at home.
I think he could have a good game, but it's
more fading a little bit. Uh Sasaki, It's gonna take time,
like it is gonna take time for a pitcher coming
over from Japan to kind of figure things out a
little bit. It took time for Otani it took time
even for Yoshinobu Yamamoto, who was pitching well now, I
thought he looked really great yesterday.
Speaker 2 (01:29:15):
That name, Yeah, no, thank you. I did do that
to humble brag a little bit. Yeah, any other game,
but yeah, I really like the Phillies there.
Speaker 5 (01:29:22):
I think Sasaki's gonna take he can get a good
price about his one fifteen at home.
Speaker 2 (01:29:26):
I like, if the Philly sweep this series. People, yeah,
they're gonna have a break. They might not lose a game.
Speaker 5 (01:29:33):
I am one s going to go with the San
Francisco Giants. Robbie ray Not hasn't been all that great
since he's been with San Francisco and really since a
cy young year, but the Giants are an awesome baseball
team right now. Buster Posey has done an excellent job.
Speaker 2 (01:29:48):
They're good.
Speaker 5 (01:29:49):
Giant Giants are legit if there's a National League team,
because I mean it's it's a little bit tough to
figure out the league outside of the NL West West,
but the top three, yeah, the three games.
Speaker 2 (01:29:58):
But the NLS zoon is not bad.
Speaker 5 (01:30:01):
Every National every NLS team just seems to be a contender,
and the Giants are like right there with them. So yeah,
I like the Giants today might where did they play?
They play the Maratives.
Speaker 2 (01:30:10):
I'm gonna bring this up. It's a note.
Speaker 3 (01:30:12):
The Dodgers beat the record that the Yankees had said
in nineteen thirty three, the gurry Ruth Yankees of starts
from a defending champion. Those Yankees did not of what.
The Yankees had started seven to zero in nineteen thirty three.
The Dodgers started eight. No, they were the defending champs,
so they broke the Yankees record. The Yankees of nineteen
thirty three did not win the American League, and that
(01:30:33):
means what no, because everybody's annoying the Dodgers. I mean people,
it's just like, who's going to finish second? Well, okay,
I understand.
Speaker 5 (01:30:41):
What it is is just a reminder of this That
team is absolutely what yeah, and really good.
Speaker 2 (01:30:47):
But yeah, you don't have to crown anyone.
Speaker 5 (01:30:49):
What I can say for sure is the Chicago White
Socks will not make the playoffs.
Speaker 2 (01:30:53):
Thank you good, don't got NBA playoffs?
Speaker 3 (01:30:57):
Uh, Cleveland sixty two and fifth team Celtics are playing
great fifty seven and twenty five back then the Knicks,
they're gonna finish third or twenty over five hundred. Then
in the Indiana, Detroit they're they're all locked into the playoffs.
Milwaukee's gonna be in the play in maybe they're probably
(01:31:19):
now I'm sorry, Milwaukee's gonna make it.
Speaker 2 (01:31:20):
Top six are locked in.
Speaker 3 (01:31:22):
Yeah, and then there's the play in Orlando, Atlanta, Chicago, Miami.
Speaker 2 (01:31:26):
That's it already, right the East. The East is done.
It's just a question of.
Speaker 3 (01:31:32):
Who's playing in the play in and between Indiana. It
looks like Detroit's finishing fifth, Milwaukee sixth, or it could
go the other way.
Speaker 2 (01:31:41):
That's all that. That's all that's relevant. And they play in.
Speaker 4 (01:31:43):
The Bulls are playing great for those that are interested. Uh,
I don't know why they're playing great, but they are.
Orlando's hurt, Atlanta's a clown show. The heat or the heat,
they'll be ill. They're in the playoffs somehow, some way.
Speaker 3 (01:31:58):
Okay, see will not win seventy games because they do
not have enough games left.
Speaker 2 (01:32:02):
They have five left.
Speaker 3 (01:32:03):
They are at sixty four and thirteen, so the best
they can do is sixty nine at thirteen.
Speaker 2 (01:32:08):
Not bad. They are thirteen and a half clear of Houston, which.
Speaker 4 (01:32:13):
Is three and a half player of the Lakers half game,
had a Denver half game, had a Golden State A
game I had in Minnesota and the Clippers.
Speaker 3 (01:32:23):
Did you see what Okase's and Memphis they're all right there.
How many games Okaysey has lost to the East this year?
Speaker 2 (01:32:29):
None one. They're like sixty and one against the East.
Speaker 3 (01:32:33):
Six yers that they lost it. Of course probably not.
Maybe the Celtics, I don't know. Maybe Cleveland people don't
understand they might lose sixty four.
Speaker 2 (01:32:43):
Where they are now, they're really good.
Speaker 4 (01:32:47):
It's gonna come down to jokicch and guilt of Alexander
for MVP.
Speaker 2 (01:32:51):
You could SG is gonna win it.
Speaker 3 (01:32:52):
That's fine with me, best player, not saying the Joker
doesn't deserve it. But it's funny.
Speaker 2 (01:32:57):
Now you don't hear anything about Houston bunch of no names,
young and tough, because.
Speaker 5 (01:33:02):
Look who's surrounding guy, the two MVP finalists and then
Lebron and Steph. Yeah, the West is absolutely fascinating. So
he just have young, up and coming teams like Okahoma
City and Houston look great. But also here are Lebron
and Steph Curry, the Warriors and Lakers looking absolutely phenomenal.
Speaker 2 (01:33:18):
Right, So it's just really great.
Speaker 4 (01:33:20):
There's eight teams, but basically see one six teams playing
for four spots as we had to the final five
games of the season.
Speaker 3 (01:33:29):
Crazy Lakers, Nuggets, Warriors, Timberwolves, Clippers, Grizzlies all within two games,
and you obviously want to get into the playoffs rather
than be in the play in.
Speaker 2 (01:33:42):
Is Steph capable of pulling off another miracle? Yes he is.
Speaker 3 (01:33:45):
He looks great, looks awesome, and Jimmy Butler has given
them new life out there.
Speaker 2 (01:33:53):
They're playing defense there roll, I mean they are.
Speaker 3 (01:33:57):
They just they've won five in a row and look
really good doing it and their defense is top notch.
So at this stage, and we'll do this again when
we actually get to the playoffs, John, I'll start with you.
Speaker 2 (01:34:11):
Who's in the files? Oh so.
Speaker 5 (01:34:17):
Well, I think it's easy. In the East, it's either
Boston or Cleveland. I just I think we've seen enough
of a sample size with New York.
Speaker 2 (01:34:25):
With the top teams in the East.
Speaker 5 (01:34:26):
They're good like Don't get me wrong, I really like
New York and they'll give Boston and Cleveland some problems.
Speaker 2 (01:34:32):
It's just that they seem to fall short of that mark.
Speaker 5 (01:34:35):
I would right now, I can't even do it.
Speaker 3 (01:34:39):
I'm going Boston. It's too easy. And then on in
the West, that's tough.
Speaker 2 (01:34:46):
I go Lakers.
Speaker 3 (01:34:49):
I go Lakers, all right, Mike, I'm going Okase In
the West, all these other teams are going to beat
up on each other to try to get the chance
to And I know, Okaysee's young, and they lost early.
Speaker 2 (01:35:02):
I think in the second round last year.
Speaker 3 (01:35:04):
They got beat of Dallas by Dallas, which Dallas. Then
I worry about the Lakers with Luca. He plays no
defense and he's still basically getting and I just worry
about a forty year old guy having to play that
many games for that long. Kind of the same thing
I feel about Golden State. But Jimmy has shown Jimmy's
(01:35:25):
been to two finals I think in the last three
years or not very good team, not very good teams.
So I would almost give Golden State a better shot.
I would never not give Denver shot. But if they
depend a lot, they need Murray and they need a
third guy. Okay see, Man, I can only see one
(01:35:45):
or two teams.
Speaker 2 (01:35:46):
Two teams.
Speaker 3 (01:35:49):
I'll go Boston, but I'm rooting for Cleveland, so I'd
like to see but nobody if it's Cleveland, Okay, see,
the world won't care.
Speaker 2 (01:35:57):
I mean really that that'll be yes death. They're going
up so that happens.
Speaker 5 (01:36:02):
Uh cop, I'm gonna go Boston as well, which is
just so weird because you look at Cleveland with sixty
two wins and you're not certain that they're gonna get there,
and I'm gonna I'm gonna ride the Jimmy and Steph train.
Speaker 2 (01:36:19):
I'm gonna go Boston Golden State.
Speaker 3 (01:36:21):
Oh yeah, I think a lot of Uh. I like
Boston too. I look at the best team, they've been,
the best team. They roared through the playoffs last year
without Porzingis.
Speaker 4 (01:36:34):
They're getting right, they're getting hot. They just cruised through
the middle of the season because they didn't care.
Speaker 2 (01:36:39):
Do you see what their road record is. Their road
records better than their home record thirty.
Speaker 3 (01:36:42):
Two and seven. Yeah, ridiculous. Cleveland's thirty three and five
at home.
Speaker 4 (01:36:49):
But Boston's tested, They've been in the finals, They've won
the championship. They have they have I would say one
of the great starting lineups in the history of the NBA.
Speaker 2 (01:37:00):
And their bench fits what they do perfectly. Knicks have
no bench by the way. That's why you can look.
Speaker 3 (01:37:07):
I think it's gonna be Cleveland and Boston. I think
they're so far better than anybody. Cleveland I have home court.
I don't think it's gonna matter. I like Boston. In
the West, we'll go seven if they play.
Speaker 2 (01:37:20):
I hope not.
Speaker 3 (01:37:21):
That'd be fine. I hope it does be great in
the West. I think a lot of this is.
Speaker 4 (01:37:28):
Gonna come down to early round matchups and you can't
say what the hell is gonna happen other than you know, okay,
sees one in Houston.
Speaker 2 (01:37:35):
Is too so clogged up.
Speaker 4 (01:37:37):
Yeah, I mean we just mentioned there's sixteens for four spots,
and boy, you don't want to be in the play
in because then you could have a bad night.
Speaker 2 (01:37:47):
You're out.
Speaker 3 (01:37:49):
I think the team to me with the least amount
of questions is Golden State.
Speaker 2 (01:37:57):
I've watched them a couple of times this past week.
Teams rounding Steph there.
Speaker 4 (01:38:02):
Looks like he's twenty one. The guy's unbelievable. It's got
to be in the greatest shape of any athlete.
Speaker 3 (01:38:11):
Like and they've been thirty six right, they've won, they's
been in the finals six times.
Speaker 4 (01:38:17):
Butler's been there. The coach is obviously. I mean, I'm
losing track of how many titles Steve Kerrez as a
player and a coach.
Speaker 2 (01:38:26):
I don't know.
Speaker 3 (01:38:26):
The player five find out that people still question him
sometimes and coaches, and he's.
Speaker 2 (01:38:31):
He's been great.
Speaker 3 (01:38:32):
Yeah, and winning well the two he won with the rant,
I mean, you know that's why they questioned it.
Speaker 2 (01:38:36):
Yeah, you been in the finals six times, you win.
Speaker 3 (01:38:40):
You know what the key to the West is that
avoiding OKC in that second round, which every team can avoid.
Speaker 4 (01:38:47):
Yeah, so you'd right, you'd rather be third and anybody
can be third. I mean, the Lakers are Lakers are
forty seven and thirty then for forty seven and.
Speaker 2 (01:38:55):
Who second one? Houston.
Speaker 3 (01:38:57):
Houston's locked in, Okay, they're locked in. Golden's forty six
and thirty one. Minnesota's forty five and thirty two. And
I'll give Minnesota credit.
Speaker 4 (01:39:04):
They look like they were dead and they are playing well,
and somehow I think they'll survive the Sixers tonight.
Speaker 2 (01:39:09):
I don't know how, but maybe it's gonna be talk.
Speaker 3 (01:39:12):
Clippers are very good at forty five and thirty two. Memphis,
I don't know what's up with them.
Speaker 2 (01:39:18):
They're just weird.
Speaker 4 (01:39:19):
Also, forty five and thirty two play in possibilities. Dallas
is right there, but that's just that's a mess. Sacramento
is a mess. Phoenixes looks like they're not gonna make
the play, and they're two behind Sacramento or a five together,
they're another mess.
Speaker 2 (01:39:34):
The team that finishes third has the best shot. Yeah,
and Golden State's playing for it.
Speaker 3 (01:39:40):
But then you pay play, you play Houston, that's a
better man. I mean's assuming you win your first round. Well,
that's true. Any matchup is going to be a tough
matchup out there. So what the three would play? What
six six? Well, that's the Warriors finish. They play the
Rockets tomorrow at home. Then they're at the Suns, sp
(01:40:00):
are at Warriors, which they don't care.
Speaker 2 (01:40:02):
Where's there at Trailblazers actually playing well, but they don't care.
Speaker 3 (01:40:05):
Warriors have a good schedule, and the Clippers are at Warriors.
Speaker 4 (01:40:07):
Yeah, they're in a good spot to win all those games. Uh,
and they're trying to win them clearly to get to.
Speaker 2 (01:40:13):
The three Clippers Warriors ben versus Jimmy, Ben versus Jimmy.
What could be more exciting than that? Do you think
wins that mess. So, Kyle, I'm gonna go with you
Boston and Golden State.
Speaker 3 (01:40:23):
Uh. I'm the guy that picked the team that's in front,
is Mike, you picked Oklahoma City. They're kind of like
Denver two years ago. Do you really believe it? Well,
they've done it two years in a row. They've been great.
Speaker 2 (01:40:36):
I just think people want to see it.
Speaker 3 (01:40:37):
In the playoff first, and I get for a team
that's won that many games. Yep, it's kind of like Cleveland.
But the reason why people were kind of short changing Cleveland.
Speaker 2 (01:40:44):
Because of Boston's in Boston's you know.
Speaker 3 (01:40:47):
But again, the team that finishes third, whoever finishes third,
I think will be playing OKAC in the Western Conference Final.
There's a couple of series you want to see, right,
You want to see Boston and the next in the
round two?
Speaker 2 (01:40:58):
Sure?
Speaker 1 (01:40:59):
Right?
Speaker 2 (01:40:59):
I mean Yorks fights. That's great, that'll be fun.
Speaker 3 (01:41:02):
And the next starting lineup is the one that can
actually match up with the Celtics that are in the
hunt up. They have the right guys that can play them.
The problem is, as Mike said, they have no bench
uh jal and they haven't beaten Cleveland or Boston like
all year. But Jalen Brunson has been out, which is
probably a good thing now that.
Speaker 2 (01:41:18):
His ankles coming back.
Speaker 3 (01:41:19):
He's got he's missing his rest and he's missed some
games because he plays more minutes.
Speaker 2 (01:41:23):
And just to bet anybody, Bridges never comes out.
Speaker 4 (01:41:26):
He's been great as advertised, no surprise, but the Celtics
are fun.
Speaker 3 (01:41:30):
I'll tell you the team that would scare me a
little bit if their whole is Denver, because I think
when Denver's hole, they're really good.
Speaker 2 (01:41:38):
I still have no.
Speaker 3 (01:41:39):
Idea how they blew Game seven at Oho to Minnesota.
Speaker 2 (01:41:41):
With a twenty point lead. I lost by twenty.
Speaker 3 (01:41:44):
Yeah, they were ridiculous.
Speaker 2 (01:41:47):
No, are You're right? I don't get that as a
defending champs. But if if Murray is on he didn't
play last night.
Speaker 3 (01:41:54):
I know, and the other guy who's their third guy, Karen,
might be when when they're because Yogi just gonna give
you what is going.
Speaker 2 (01:42:01):
To give you phenomenal. You know. I read a story yesterday.
Speaker 3 (01:42:05):
It was it was interesting. I haven't really thought of this.
People go, oh, he's a terrible defensive player. Well apparently
he's not. Apparently he's figured out with his athletic limitations,
how to always be in the right spot anticipate things.
Speaker 2 (01:42:19):
So his defensive.
Speaker 3 (01:42:20):
Metrics have come up dramatically in the last few years,
which is one of the reasons why, to Mike's point,
they are dangerous.
Speaker 2 (01:42:28):
I don't think there's much argument that he's.
Speaker 4 (01:42:30):
The best player in the world at the moment. There's
not any argument from me. He's the most impactful. His
numbers are ridiculous, his IQ is off the charts.
Speaker 3 (01:42:39):
People just got to forget that he has a vertical
jump of a half an inch.
Speaker 5 (01:42:42):
That's all I'm sorry, Mike, Michael Porter Private, Yeah, but
it could be either of those guys would say ter
or I got to mention one thing, know where you
mentioned that. I got to mention that my man jail
and picket from pet State and had a trouble double
for the Denver Nuck's just give him a chance, I love.
Speaker 3 (01:43:01):
That's the funny thing is I guess if you play
with Yokich and you just like meander around the floor,
you're gonna you like a triple doubt like sixteen yea guy,
Mike alix Ovechkin.
Speaker 2 (01:43:11):
Yeah, two goals last night passed up in empty.
Speaker 3 (01:43:13):
Nettter apparently at the end of the game because he
didn't want to break the record. He's going to break
his next goal breaks one of the great it's a
baby mooge record is what it is.
Speaker 2 (01:43:22):
Now.
Speaker 3 (01:43:22):
He's not gonna break's gonna break the assist record because that's.
Speaker 2 (01:43:25):
Like got there and playing a Pluto somewhere.
Speaker 3 (01:43:27):
But my god, I mean, Washington seven six, seven years
ago was almost ready to trade this guy because they
had and then they won the Cup and then I mean,
and they're first in the East this year, and I
mean they're having a great year.
Speaker 2 (01:43:42):
But it what a record, I mean, what a many goals?
Eight nine.
Speaker 3 (01:43:47):
And he's not done. I mean, he's gonna play next
year at least, I guess, you know, maybe he gets
a Cup this year, who who the hell knows?
Speaker 2 (01:43:53):
So will the Flyers being in the playoffs maybe in
the next forty years? Who makes who makes the playoffs? First?
The Flyers are the Switchers Flyers, they got meat ca Yeah,
decount the play in the playoffs.
Speaker 3 (01:44:09):
Well, well, play into the playoffs, I guess.
Speaker 5 (01:44:15):
Okay, But I said, if you have four teams in
the playing like they do in the East that are
below five hundred that is not considered the player.
Speaker 2 (01:44:24):
So the teams that go to Dayton technically didn't make
the n C double A. To correct they did. Well,
that's the same concept.
Speaker 5 (01:44:30):
And also I would like to say before we part
that Sanders had his Pro day.
Speaker 2 (01:44:35):
Yeah, that guy's an NFL quarterback. He gets caught up
in a lot. I don't don't go by pro day, John, No, No,
you like workouts and horses.
Speaker 3 (01:44:45):
The guy did the Jets three years ago, had a
Pro day like nobody else's pro day.
Speaker 5 (01:44:50):
Absolutely, Zach Wilson, but that's just the way he cares himself,
the polish like.
Speaker 2 (01:44:54):
There's just so much to love about the kid and
the kind of quarterback.
Speaker 3 (01:44:57):
Will he be good or will that?
Speaker 2 (01:45:04):
Here's what I know. If the Giants don't pick him,
he'll be great.
Speaker 3 (01:45:08):
That's nobody's told them.
Speaker 2 (01:45:11):
The Cleveland Why would Cleveland take him at two? Because
they quarterback at Deshaun Watson. They got pick it. That's
their quarterback right now. As we said to Sean, Watson.
Speaker 3 (01:45:20):
Ain't playing to at least like November, at least never
playing well, you're right.
Speaker 5 (01:45:26):
I just think she is just a polarizing player just
because his dad and everything that's happened to Colorado and
Jackson State. But that threw all of that and if
you take away all that external stuff on the on
the field, that that's a really good football player.
Speaker 2 (01:45:39):
I'm with.
Speaker 5 (01:45:40):
Now again, I think at least maybe like top fifteen quarterback.
Does he get any better than that? I don't know,
but that's a that's a starting quarterback in the NFL.
That's a that's a draft pick to me.
Speaker 3 (01:45:49):
But again, the talk is when you're going to take
them two or three or somewhere like that, you hoping
that you're taking somebody who's the lead. Now, you don't
always get the elite guy, but I'm just I mean,
there's not many quarterbacks in this draft.
Speaker 2 (01:46:02):
I'm done. That's it. He's done. A rant special for Mike.
I had left one on the table.
