Speaker 3 (00:50):
Must be twenty one and in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio, Michigan.
Gambling Problem one eight hundred Gambler Dick Girardi long with
Mike carn John Janssen and Kyle Maker. At ten years ago, guys,
Pope Francis visited Saint Jose's. It was a big deal.
He was in town Philly. The Jesuit Pope visited Saint
(01:10):
Joe as well. Villanova just won up Saint Joe's and
everybody else. Nineteen seventy seven graduate of Villanova is the
new Pope in the same week that somehow the New
York Knicks with three Villanova's starters are down twenty in
two straight games in Boston. And I watched them both
(01:30):
and I still don't know what happened. And they won
both games because the Celtics couldn't make a shot for
like forever.
Speaker 2 (01:36):
So can I tell you ten years ago when the
Pope was here? Yes, that's when all Eagles fans were
begging him to bless Sam Bradford's knees. Oh I remember
that's right. Yeah, wow, how about that Sam Bradford.
Speaker 3 (01:48):
So anyway, this Pope has already been here, and I'm
sure he'll be back on to a Nova game at
some point.
Speaker 4 (01:53):
And then he blessed the Nova program.
Speaker 5 (01:56):
Yeah, well there's that too, Yeah there is, Kevin Willard.
Speaker 3 (01:59):
The NBA playoffs have been upside down completely the this
obviously has never happened again, saying to Mike, I wonder
what the price would have been on this.
Speaker 5 (02:08):
There probably wasn't one.
Speaker 3 (02:10):
But the road teams are go six and zero straight
up and against the spread when they're all gigantic underdogs.
All the road teams either lead the series or they're
tied in the series. It's just it's just complete insanity.
Uh and ABC for reasons known only to themselves as
the Knicks and the Celtics and the Timberwolves in Golden State?
Speaker 2 (02:32):
Today?
Speaker 6 (02:33):
Which game do they put in prime time? The Timberwolves
in Golden State?
Speaker 5 (02:37):
What do they think? Three point thirty for the Knicks
and the Celtics? What are we doing?
Speaker 2 (02:42):
Because the ones on the West Coast the Bears, but.
Speaker 5 (02:47):
Francisco they never care about. That's the same man.
Speaker 3 (02:50):
Don't you think Boston, New York would draw a bigger
audience than the Warriors without Steph Curry against I'm not.
Speaker 2 (02:57):
Arguing with you.
Speaker 4 (02:58):
I'm not going to complain though, because that that works
better for me. Thirty basketball that Nick Celtics on fine, well,
no one cares abo you fit's my skin's golf on three.
Speaker 3 (03:09):
So a couple of thoughts as week as we go
through again, awesome that the Pope is filling over grad
first American pope and from Chicago.
Speaker 4 (03:18):
I do love that people, because the Pope has never
been American, right, and it's incredible to think that the
Pope has experienced some things that we have, like eating
at wawah An.
Speaker 2 (03:28):
Things like that, right, that.
Speaker 5 (03:29):
He's good friends with father Rob.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
Yes, the fact he has had well, yeah, it's great stuff.
Speaker 3 (03:35):
So the Celtics through eighty nine games including the playoffs,
just that their two worst field goal percentage games of
the season and managed to lose to the next. They
have led for eighty one minutes in the two games
and trailed for twelve. Wow, the problem was it was
the wrong twelve. They lose it over time, then they
lose by a point. They shot with twenty five for one.
Speaker 6 (03:58):
Hundred on threes and two games, Yeah, fifteen.
Speaker 3 (04:01):
For sixty and then ten for forty. It's just madness.
And I mean they're clearly the better team. But major
credit to the Knicks Jalen Brunson's phenomenon. Michel Bridges was
like not around for three quarters and that was great.
Speaker 2 (04:18):
They really haven't.
Speaker 4 (04:19):
They They played great when they wouldn't need to. Yeah,
that's been weird.
Speaker 6 (04:23):
Uh.
Speaker 3 (04:23):
We have Minnesota now a prohibitive favorite ever called state
because Steph Curry got hurt in Game one. Okay, see
for the people that did not stay up late last night,
lost in overtime to Denver in a game where Nicola
Jokis shot over ten on threes. They're down down two
to one. Cleveland squashed Indiana now that all their players
(04:44):
were back for the first time in the series. That's
now two to one favoring Indiana. Make any general thoughts
on this crazy beginning to the NBA Round I eight.
Speaker 6 (04:55):
I hate injuries. There's so much a part of sports anymore.
Everybody gets hurt just about at some point. That Dodgers
just had their second best player. I guess if Otani's
the best, but any guy who's leading the league in
home runs, he's out now front. But every Oscar or
everybody gets hurt. This thing with Steph. Look, I didn't
(05:15):
know if Golden State can beat them. I don't know,
but I wanted to see Steph give it a shot, sure,
because he's Steph.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Might be his last chance.
Speaker 6 (05:24):
Might be his last good chance, who knows, And even
in some of the other series we've seen guys.
Speaker 2 (05:30):
Obviously we've seen it here in Philadelphia too much. But
it just pains me. And I'm not taking anything away
from Minnesota.
Speaker 6 (05:37):
They might be the better team and they're probably gonna
win the series, but my god, could we've just you know,
after Golden State wins the first game and he's grabbing
his leg and you're just like, come on the second
quarter in the game anyway, and that that's I mean,
that's my takeaway.
Speaker 3 (05:54):
They can't wait without There are certain players that your
team has no chance without, and Golden State's just there's not.
Speaker 6 (06:00):
A team if you took their best player. If you
take Richardson off the tee walls, they get his name
on Edwards Edwards, you take him off there, he's gone.
Speaker 5 (06:12):
They're gone. They ain't winning if.
Speaker 6 (06:14):
You take s g A off, Okay, see they're not winning.
I mean they might they still have a good team
and all that, but you know, differently, inherently tied to
what does a D off the.
Speaker 5 (06:27):
Lakers, one player is worth more in basketball.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
Off the necks change.
Speaker 4 (06:33):
I'm starting to think Brunson has way too much value
for the next just because of his clutch points and
what he does latent games.
Speaker 2 (06:38):
And that's how they're winning. Is Jalen Brunston lighton.
Speaker 6 (06:41):
And he hasn't played like he hasn't been Jalen Brunton
McHale had, you know, just huge. But I think part
of this besides Boston missing shots, which took it and
the defiance of that's how we play and they want
a championship pleasure. I'm gonna dudes, like your two best players,
and I'll tell you what the guy I feel the
(07:02):
Tatum because he did win the MVP at the finals
that year. He shouldn't he shouldn't have won.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
He shouldn't have won.
Speaker 5 (07:09):
They go out this year and he plays like this.
Speaker 6 (07:12):
Yeah, I'm telling you, man, people are just gonna be like,
really conversations if you're not and if they're not being
used in the Olympic team, which we've never really got.
Speaker 2 (07:21):
That's true. Yeah, that was kind of weird.
Speaker 3 (07:23):
Uh, But anyway, NBA Playoffs, Kyle, your thoughts as were
in the middle of the second round now, and it's
been exactly opposite essentially in every series of what we
thought we were gonna say.
Speaker 2 (07:34):
Yeah, I mean, the most surprising right now is the
best team in the NBA quote unquote is down two
to one to a team that you know, fired their coach.
Was kind of a huge question mark coming into the playoffs,
but nonetheless, championship team still experienced. The Thunders still have
to go out there and prove that they are the
best team and that they're you know, they're ready for
(07:56):
the moment now and to this point getting a little dicey.
So if they obviously have to have a bounce back
game win at Denver, if not, then that proves me
that they're still young, they're still not ready for the
big moment. You can have your regular season wins, but
we've seen it here in Philly. It doesn't matter until
you get to the playoffs. They don't win. If they
lose to Denver, that's not good. Yeah, not good at all.
(08:19):
The thing if you lose in.
Speaker 6 (08:20):
The conference final to maybe a team and I'm not
seeing Denver's not as good as that.
Speaker 2 (08:24):
I mean, Denver's good. They wont like you said, they
want to tell to you.
Speaker 6 (08:26):
But my god, you win sixty seven games and everybody
and you win the West by Lake whatever they want
it by oh Man, that they.
Speaker 2 (08:33):
Won't be good.
Speaker 5 (08:34):
Yeah, they said.
Speaker 2 (08:34):
An all time NBA record for point differential r.
Speaker 6 (08:37):
This was the most dominant regular season team in the history.
Speaker 3 (08:39):
Of the league by just by point differential, which is
they only even really go by it.
Speaker 2 (08:43):
I mean the.
Speaker 3 (08:43):
Outscore team is by twelve points a game over eighty
two games, more than a thousand points. It's just complete insanity.
And to have them in this spot right now. They win,
they win Game two by fifty, but the two close
games they got beat in because they haven't been in
closely and.
Speaker 2 (09:01):
A million of them we're on the radio.
Speaker 6 (09:03):
Well, I will say this, if if Oka se goes
down in this round, I don't know if Johnnie, Jannie
or or Durant will be playing for okay See next year.
Speaker 3 (09:15):
Well what what okay See can't do is the same
thing Phoenix.
Speaker 2 (09:18):
To the no.
Speaker 3 (09:19):
But they've got a million draft picks. They don't have
to break up their team. You can trade draft picks.
That's one thing. They don't need any young players.
Speaker 2 (09:26):
They have.
Speaker 6 (09:26):
They have a they're gonna they're gonna go to Milwaukee
and they're gonna say, listen, we're gonna give you five
draft picks for whatever whatever they're gonna give them. They've
got like fifteen of them in the next five, six,
seven years, and they're gonna say, Giannis come here, and
if you put Giannis on that team, I mean they'll
give up something. They're gonna have to give up a
player or two, but they've got ten. I think Durant's
gonna end up in Houston, because that seems to be
(09:49):
that he's from Houston. He's from the I from from
pretty sure.
Speaker 2 (09:55):
We're live on the radio. By the way, you guys know.
Speaker 7 (09:57):
That nice nice nice, he nice older man. Older, he
was an older gentleman. He waved his hand at me
like he was disgruntled. But yeah, I mean you you
mentioned it, Jokics? What was Yokics?
Speaker 6 (10:10):
Oh for ten, eight for twenty five over still got
his twenty rebounds though.
Speaker 2 (10:14):
He did, But come on, Jokics goes for that. You
gotta win that game if you're the thunder yep loasing overtime.
Speaker 6 (10:21):
It was again, did they have a change to winning regularly?
Like I didn't see the end of regular.
Speaker 3 (10:25):
She had a three to tie the game, but about
twenty eight seconds left there and he's a zero and
they just lost him on defense.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
I did see that highlight. It's like, what are we
doing here?
Speaker 6 (10:34):
But yeah, they're just Gordon's been really good, Resurrected's got
two game winners. Didn't Porter have a good game last
night too? Michael Porter had twenty one and eight. Look
before he got to Denver.
Speaker 3 (10:45):
Gordon was strictly a dunker and a defender and he's
become a three point shooter.
Speaker 2 (10:50):
Now he's he.
Speaker 5 (10:51):
Got a guard and a.
Speaker 3 (10:52):
Dunkery game that that part hasn't change.
Speaker 5 (10:56):
Yeah, I think John your general thoughts about what the hell's.
Speaker 4 (10:59):
Going Yeah, it's surprising a lot of what second round shocking.
Speaker 2 (11:03):
Yeah, shocking is is probably the best way to put it.
Speaker 4 (11:05):
But on the other side of shocking usually comes like
getting back to the law of averages. And I think
at some point, like right, reality is going to be.
I think Cleveland is much better than Indiana, especially now healthy,
and I think we're gonna see that Boston today is
much better than the Knicks.
Speaker 3 (11:20):
Boston minus sixth Yeah, and on the road too.
Speaker 4 (11:23):
In the garden, I would take the I'm taking every
two point game, right, you can take it. Yeah, But
I just think, yeah, this it is shocking. It's it's shocking.
What is happening between every single series. Uh, I don't
know if the Thunder, you know, that's the only one
that I'm not exactly sure if that one gets back
(11:43):
to the Thunder or the better team than Denver, just
because Denver still has Jamal Murray and Jokic and that
that tandem is always going to be very.
Speaker 6 (11:52):
Lot of success in the playoffs, going all the way
back to the bubble.
Speaker 5 (11:56):
Yeah, I mean we're.
Speaker 2 (11:56):
Talking like five years ago.
Speaker 5 (11:58):
These guys have been very good.
Speaker 6 (12:00):
You seen the numbers on when teams lose the first
two on at home, Yeah, they're not good. I think
they won once or twice.
Speaker 2 (12:09):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (12:10):
But and but this never happened either. That's all the
roads went on.
Speaker 6 (12:13):
That's and you got you got it, you could have.
It's funny. Some guy the other day, and I won't
bring up his name, was saying, well, boy Indiana Holiburton
could get to an Eastern Final before Joe, Well he
went to the Eastern Final last year.
Speaker 2 (12:27):
Like, did these people not pay to what happens?
Speaker 3 (12:30):
They beat the Knicks and seven and they lost to
the Celtics. Actually played for Celtics pretty well. They lost
at five, but they were in a lot of the game.
So here's what we got today.
Speaker 6 (12:38):
Three thirty on ABC, Boston minus six at New York Series.
Boston is still the favorite, but not no longer minus
like eight. They were nine hundred minus one twenty one
the Knicks or plus.
Speaker 2 (12:50):
One hundred at this moment.
Speaker 3 (12:52):
Eight thirty Tonight Minnesota eight and a half at Golden State.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
Minnesota is a serious favorite.
Speaker 3 (12:57):
Minus three thirty five Golden States plus who's sixty?
Speaker 2 (13:00):
What's the line tonight? Eight and a half Minnesota tomorrow
three in the afternoon game.
Speaker 3 (13:06):
Okay, see minus five and a half at Denver, they're
still the favorite minus two fifteen Denvers plus one seventy
five in the series Cleveland, which again, if people watched
last night, all three of their players that were hurt
all played last.
Speaker 2 (13:21):
Night and they crushed Indiana.
Speaker 3 (13:23):
They're minus five tomorrow night in Indiana at Gamebridge, field
House or whatever the hell the name of it these
days is.
Speaker 2 (13:31):
I do have Minnesota at minus five and a half tonight.
I must have written that down wrong, all right?
Speaker 3 (13:37):
Cleveland minus five tomorrow and against Indiana minus one fifty
two in a series plus one twenty five is Indiana?
Any thoughts on the series, Kyle, that you like something
here now that the numbers have changed.
Speaker 2 (13:51):
For for what series? A series? Series? Any series? I mean,
this is tough. I I do really like Minnesota tonight.
I'll tell you An Edwards has been give right.
Speaker 5 (14:08):
We'll find I'm looking right now both okay?
Speaker 2 (14:12):
Both? Oh, just An Edwards has been my favorite player
these playoffs. I mean, he's a he's a dog. I
think I think that they roll Golden State without Steph,
and then that puts them in prime position to win
this series. I mean, and Edwards is what three years old?
He plays like he's a He's like a ten year vet.
(14:34):
I really like the way that Minnesota's team structured, and
without Steph, I can see them pounce and and not
look back. So I'm gonna go with Minnesota in this series.
That's the one that I really like right now. The
rest toss him up.
Speaker 6 (14:46):
I do not see how Golden State scores one hundred
points without stuff exactly, and if you can't score one
hundred in the NBA, you got problems.
Speaker 2 (14:53):
And again it's a situation where I I just think
Minnesota has a leader that's gonna, you know, take advantage
of that situation. Johnnie, what are you thinking there?
Speaker 4 (15:02):
I think it's a great time to jump in on
Cleveland and Boston again, as we said, I think a
good example of it was last night Cleveland looked much
better than Indiana and now backs against the wall. Obviously
they needed to win that game, but still I think
it's proof that they are better than Indiana.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
And I think Boston win this game.
Speaker 4 (15:18):
Yeah, they do, They really do. I think Boston as well.
I think they win tonight. I think they do cover
the spread still even though Blake curtis a great point.
Knicks are in every close game, sure, but I I
love for those two to get back in their series,
and you're getting them very good prices, and I don't
think it's like panic button time yet for them. That
like it's too late to bet on them. Minus one
twenty one for the Knicks or for the Celtics, who
(15:40):
are clearly I think a better team and going to
get back in this series.
Speaker 2 (15:43):
I like that number, Mike.
Speaker 5 (15:46):
One thing by the numbers that Dick was saying.
Speaker 6 (15:49):
If you like the Calves, if you think the Calves
are going to win the series better now, yeah, but
if they win this game, it ain't going to be
minus one. It's going to be minus three hundred four under.
So if you think that, then you should get in
on it. I think, and I said this last week
about the Knicks and any think they do, but I
thought there but we see you out of the Knicks
is a grittiness, a toughness.
Speaker 2 (16:11):
There's something about them. You don't have to like them.
You don't have to. And yes, it's Boston a better team. Yeah,
and then there's no.
Speaker 6 (16:17):
Doubt Porzingis has whatever Porzingis has. He's sick, it's been lingering.
I like the Knicks to keep this game close. I
think Boston can win, obviously because they're Boston. But the Knicks,
there's just something about the Knicks that I that I
like to watch them and rove for them. I guess
maybe because they got the three Villanova guys, and you know,
(16:39):
you sit there and say I covered these guys out west,
I would think I'd behoove. Okay, see to win game
forpful because if they don't, you're dealing with a team
that knows how to win a championship.
Speaker 5 (16:53):
Two years right, Yeah, you're you're right. What's the other
series with Cleveland?
Speaker 2 (16:57):
So we got Cleveland, Boston State.
Speaker 6 (16:59):
It's just this the whole step until I know what
happens with Steph. Yeah, well, their whole thing is game.
He ain't he ain't playing until yeah, probably the game
five and they.
Speaker 2 (17:07):
Got it win.
Speaker 6 (17:08):
Wanted to at home, get it the game six. But
here's where I lose it. So okay, So stuff comes
back in game six? What's stuff going to be?
Speaker 2 (17:15):
Any playing?
Speaker 5 (17:16):
You know, he more than any other player.
Speaker 6 (17:19):
He depends on his legs absolutely, and you can see
in his face. You look at Steph's facing and he's
basically just telling you. And it's interesting to say he
never had a hamstring problem in his life.
Speaker 2 (17:29):
Really bizarre.
Speaker 6 (17:30):
Uh So NBA Championship numbers at this stage, who's the
favorite at bet Parks? I have it right in front
of me, So don't look, let me think about. Let
me that's one guess Boston, Mike.
Speaker 2 (17:46):
If there's still the favorite to win the series, I might.
Speaker 4 (17:49):
Go Cleveland, Cleveland, John, Uh, it's probably not gonna be them.
Speaker 2 (17:56):
But Denver the.
Speaker 5 (17:57):
Favorite has not changed still.
Speaker 3 (17:58):
Okay, see and plus one seventy Boston plus three twenty five,
and we're saying plus three twenty five.
Speaker 6 (18:05):
It's that means three point twenty five to one? What
is Denver? Cleveland is five to one. I'm getting to Denver.
Minnesota is nine to one, Denvers ten to one.
Speaker 3 (18:14):
The Knicks are twelve to one in the twenty and
Golden State was twenty five before the playoffs started, and
now they're thirty.
Speaker 6 (18:22):
Because Okay, Steph's not coming.
Speaker 2 (18:25):
I mean, it's a little surprising Denver isn't higher.
Speaker 4 (18:27):
I didn't think they would be Denver, but I'm not
surprised they're not higher Denver higher than ten to one, yeah,
not or at least shorter odds. You mean lower lower lower? Yeah,
you mean like five to one.
Speaker 6 (18:36):
Yes, I agree if Denver were again the same thing
I said about Cleveland. If you think Denver is going
to win this series or ken or whatever, ten to.
Speaker 2 (18:45):
One, you get on that. If they win game four,
their chances are pretty good. Yeah, they are.
Speaker 6 (18:50):
Okay, then they would get whoever they would get Minnesota.
That would be a revenge thing, right with Minnesota. Minnesota's
team and went and they would have home, Denver would
have home. I mean, I'll take my shot with Denver
ten to one right now. I think, Okay, he's the
better team.
Speaker 4 (19:05):
And for league it's perceived to be individual dominated, like
Jokic dominates uh and that's why Denver is good and
Lebron James and Steph Curry. It's surprising that Jokico isn't
getting that kind of number, Like Denver probably isn't the
best version of Denver that they've been under Yokicic. But
still that's that looks like a very good team that's
beating the best team.
Speaker 6 (19:25):
And if you get to the final, you could be
playing the Knicks or the Pacers. I mean maybe not,
but I'm just saying right now, you know you could be.
Speaker 3 (19:35):
And I think Denver out of the look at this,
they might have home court in the finals against either
of those teams. They obviously wouldn't against Boston or Cleveland.
Speaker 2 (19:43):
Because of the win total.
Speaker 3 (19:44):
Yeah, it's a it's a Wednesday, right, who gets the
home court? Yeah, I can't remember. Yeah, I think Denver
won more than that the West though it was kind
of thing.
Speaker 2 (19:53):
Yeah, I can tell you Denver one, uh, the Knicks
on the Knicks one fifty one. So it's the next
week and that circumstances.
Speaker 3 (20:03):
Indian Also, I don't know who would get the TI
ten away from the ten to one on a team
that's winning two to one.
Speaker 5 (20:10):
I mean yeah, I don't know. They'll probably lose.
Speaker 2 (20:15):
They'll probably lose the next three. And you know, in
this conversation doesn't mean anything. That'll be it. They're gone.
What do you think of ok seed? Did do you
think that this is a spot where they could.
Speaker 5 (20:26):
Well, you can't do.
Speaker 3 (20:27):
What they did during the regular season and not be real.
But it's a different level of in this situation last.
Speaker 6 (20:33):
Year, that close game thing. You they just haven't been
in it, and they haven't. They really played poorly at
the end of Game one. Yeah, it wasn't just home
for Bricket two pretheters, but just a lot of little
things they did wrong. I didn't see the game last night,
so I'm not in a position to say what happened.
Speaker 2 (20:46):
But yeah, just those games. I mean, they've lost two games, is.
Speaker 3 (20:51):
Like Duke this year in their final four. They've never
been in a close game. They don't know what they're doing.
Speaker 5 (20:55):
They got I mean, look, okay.
Speaker 2 (20:57):
Could be up three zip.
Speaker 6 (20:59):
I mean because the two games they lost was the
Homegroom misters and last night. Maybe I'm getting carried away
with Denver and I still think okay, see probably figures out.
Speaker 2 (21:09):
A way to win the series.
Speaker 3 (21:10):
Say they better, you better win the next game or
they got real problems. But the most important event comes
on Tuesday. Sean can't wait. It's the lottery.
Speaker 6 (21:23):
How excited are what are they going to do as
well as the Flyers did? No, Yeah, let's John Chansen doesn't.
Speaker 2 (21:28):
How excited are you?
Speaker 3 (21:30):
I know Sean Bernard back in the studio, he just
he has been waiting all year for this.
Speaker 4 (21:34):
Yes, I mean, I guess I'm excited until Daryl Morey
spoke again, and I'm just, oh god, every bit of blame.
Speaker 6 (21:43):
He spoke twice. He spoke mizzing OI and then he
did a podcast. Yes, and basically he said one of
the things, can't make this up. He's he's about winning.
If you look at his record, he says no, he said,
there's probably no what do you say, GM.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
Or somebody to look at the equipment has made more deep.
Speaker 6 (22:01):
Runs in the playoffs than him. Well, there's guys that
have won championships. There's guys that have made the finals.
He's made one Western Conference final. I believe now Golden
State was playing. I get all that he said. He
backed up on his double down that we're coming back
with basically the same team.
Speaker 5 (22:18):
We're gonna put some of these young players in with them.
Speaker 4 (22:20):
That's the only thing I liked is that he says
he wants to get twenty five or younger players like
he wants together.
Speaker 5 (22:26):
And he also he well.
Speaker 6 (22:31):
He's he's look I can't expect them to command and
say we're gonna suck.
Speaker 2 (22:34):
Okay, you can't do that. I get it.
Speaker 6 (22:37):
He said that the other teams in the East are good,
are gonna have trouble keeping their teams together. The Sixers
have three MAX players. What am I missing here? The
Celtics have their two best players tied up for like
the next four or five years. I don't know what
Cleveland situation is. The Knicks aren't going anywhere. From what
I can gather, he just taught, and he and Mike
(22:57):
did a good job of trying to, you know, say
about you know he, but he basically said, I'm the
best guy there is to run a franchise.
Speaker 3 (23:06):
Yeah, here's again. I didn't hear it, but I trust
exactly what Mike is saying. I know some people in
the NBA who have high positions.
Speaker 6 (23:15):
Who think he's a complete and total fraud, and they
are convinced of it that he just talks a good game,
doesn't know anything about basketball, just acts like, hey, look
I'm a genius.
Speaker 5 (23:25):
Look at my track record. Well, actually we have.
Speaker 6 (23:28):
And it ain't take him so But he told you
a little humility would go a long way, Just like
a little bit of just acceptance of responsibility.
Speaker 2 (23:37):
Hey, we have fallen shot.
Speaker 6 (23:38):
How can you say that your teams have made more
deep runs when you've been to one conference final and
Steve Kerr, well he's not a GM, so I shouldn't
count Steve Carr.
Speaker 5 (23:48):
But whoever, Bob Meyer?
Speaker 2 (23:50):
They won four.
Speaker 6 (23:51):
So here's the here's the exact quote. I mean, that's
like Doc say, and Doc at least has a ring
on his finger.
Speaker 2 (23:56):
This is the exactly. This is the first losing season.
I've had had more deep playoff runs than I think
any other executive never been to the lottery because we
only win. I'm pretty good at this winning thing.
Speaker 6 (24:07):
And somebody said he's actually been to the lottery three times.
Speaker 2 (24:10):
I don't know this. Back when he was like this,
I'm pretty good at this winning thing. He ran.
Speaker 3 (24:15):
He ran the Rockets, and he's run the six Ers.
Does he run any other teams?
Speaker 2 (24:18):
And I think those are the only two.
Speaker 3 (24:21):
I mean, look, the Rockets were very good, but never
good enough in his tenure.
Speaker 2 (24:27):
They made one Western Conference Final. Yeah, I don't know.
They were up three to one.
Speaker 4 (24:31):
And you can't tell a fan base that is frustrated
as hell that you haven't done conference final and say.
Speaker 2 (24:39):
All we've done is win you have.
Speaker 6 (24:40):
You can't lie to me, like the thing in there
about embiiding George, where he basically says we think they
we think Mike has Have we seen the best of Joe?
Speaker 5 (24:51):
He goes, no, I think we're optimistic.
Speaker 3 (24:55):
He has no idea. Yes, nobody has any idea. Paul
George looked like it was one hundred years old.
Speaker 6 (25:01):
He said, oh, he went to see the doctor to
Kawai saw and and and they're getting and then Mike
tried to press the one, well what's wrong He had
like no answers.
Speaker 3 (25:08):
Yeah, I mean, look they're just dreaming. Look there's just
nothing positive coming out.
Speaker 2 (25:13):
And if he would have just said he sort of
said it, but.
Speaker 3 (25:16):
He wouldn't admit to it that he completely botched the
roster this year with all these old guys, which we said,
and boy didn't tell you.
Speaker 5 (25:22):
That because he said we're gonna get young guys next year.
I get it, but it was obvious.
Speaker 2 (25:26):
I mean, you said that on the show.
Speaker 6 (25:28):
Wouldn't have been anymore you said, no, everybody, they're getting
older and slower.
Speaker 2 (25:33):
No, Eric Gordon's so here's here's the delusion. Daryl Morey
on if Embiid has already shown his best, I don't
think that's written. I don't think we know that. I
think MVP Joel Embiid is still potentially there. We won't
know obviously until we go through the season. But he's
in an age where lots of players still play into
their prime. He's in an age where lots of players,
(25:55):
even with this yues, have come back and played at
a high level. Name one, he said, cool, Well, whoever's
working with Joe.
Speaker 3 (26:06):
Well, there's a couple of problems with that one. Kawhi
Leonard has won multiple championships. Joel Embiid has never been
out of the second round of the playoffs. So there's
that there's no comparison in their.
Speaker 2 (26:16):
Career in a seven foot body, right, And that's the
next thing. Let's just blind.
Speaker 3 (26:22):
This guy has a chronic knee problem.
Speaker 2 (26:26):
He's out of shape a lot. How does it get better?
Speaker 3 (26:30):
They need a miracle and I don't think that miracle exists. Look,
I hope it does for him in the city. It'd
be great to see the team be good. The idea
that he's saying he's compared this to anybody is absurd
to me.
Speaker 2 (26:42):
He's just going into.
Speaker 6 (26:44):
The miracle because he's got to defend his job because
people didn't want him back, So he's got to tell
you why the owner decided to bring him back and
run back. If they get Cooper Flag, then at least
as a fan base, you consider and go.
Speaker 2 (26:58):
Okay, we got this guy.
Speaker 6 (27:00):
If you get the third or fourth pick, and I
still think they're gonna get the seventh pick, that's that's
my whatever.
Speaker 5 (27:05):
But if you get a good player.
Speaker 6 (27:07):
It ain't going to change the fact that this team
has never won without Joe. My opinion is very simple.
This is a one player draft.
Speaker 2 (27:15):
Yes, one player changes the team.
Speaker 3 (27:17):
The rest of the guys look and there's some, certainly
some good players.
Speaker 2 (27:23):
A Spelly's a good player. I could name a half
a dozen more.
Speaker 3 (27:26):
None of them are changing the dynamic in this city anytime.
Speaker 2 (27:30):
Who is the favorite to get who has the best odds?
Speaker 6 (27:33):
The San Antonio who has the team that has the
best odds to get Cooper? The Wizards, the Wiz.
Speaker 3 (27:39):
Okay, did they end up with the worst record in Utah?
I can't remember, but it's one of those.
Speaker 2 (27:44):
It's one of those. The odds are so close it's
kind of irrelevant. They've made it.
Speaker 3 (27:47):
They they don't want you losing a million games anymore.
They don't give you the reward you used to get
for being the worst team.
Speaker 5 (27:54):
In the league by ful telling you right now get
a reward.
Speaker 6 (27:57):
But OKC will have the seventh pick in the NBA draft.
They gotta drop two, right, they gotta drop two spots.
I means two teams from below them have to go
past them. And Matt is what's going to happen.
Speaker 2 (28:09):
That's it sitting.
Speaker 6 (28:10):
Stunt, setting stacks, Philadelph no Cooper, and then you're gonna
ask Moory about it.
Speaker 2 (28:14):
They're gonna ask story about the Wednesday hold on.
Speaker 5 (28:16):
Now, Citchers have had a lot of good lottery luck.
Speaker 3 (28:19):
The problem is they then they paid, but they've gotten
the good selections that I can't help them with that.
Speaker 5 (28:25):
I mean that's you know, they're good at pig pop ball.
Speaker 2 (28:27):
Yeah, when it turns from luck to decision making, that
that's where it falls apart. Exactly.
Speaker 5 (28:33):
Alright, We're through a half an hour, got ninety minutes
to go.
Speaker 3 (28:36):
You're listening to sports here, there and everywhere, and as
we do every Saturday morning from nine to eleven, We

Ben Salem and brought to you exclusively by the bet

Michigan gambling problem one eight hundred gambler.
Speaker 5 (29:05):
Well, a couple of questions for the paddle.
Speaker 6 (29:07):
Who's the favorite to win the Stanley Cup at this moment?
Speaker 5 (29:10):
Don't look kin Kyle?
Speaker 2 (29:12):
Uh No idea.
Speaker 3 (29:14):
We have the truest championship at the sold off the
cricket Club. Mike Karl will be back at the top
of the hour to chat about that.
Speaker 2 (29:20):
We have Keith Mitchell in the.
Speaker 3 (29:22):
League, uh Ry, McElroy, Lurky, Shane Lowry and the guys.
Lurk Phillies looked pathetic last night and got shut out
in Cleveland, but I've played better lately.
Speaker 2 (29:34):
We'll have some baseball.
Speaker 5 (29:35):
Maybe John Jansen has some baseball picks.
Speaker 2 (29:37):
Oh yeah, I can oh.
Speaker 5 (29:38):
John Janson back in the house and some baseball picks.
Speaker 6 (29:41):
Uh and again the Pope is a volt over everything
running through the Philly fact. Everything is filled the fact
that Father You have to know Father Rob to really
get that. Has been friends with him for twenty years. Yep,
he's I texted him a couple of times, Joe Shane.
Speaker 2 (29:57):
He's he's like over the moon about that's a.
Speaker 3 (30:00):
Good story on the athletic with Father Rob and talking
about friendship with the Pope.
Speaker 1 (30:05):
Wow.
Speaker 2 (30:06):
Actually one of my.
Speaker 4 (30:06):
Favorite nobody I know, Okay, one of my favorite things
I found last night on Twitter. Somebody posted a video
of the two thousand and five Chicago White Sox World
Series on the TV.
Speaker 2 (30:17):
There was the Pope. I will say this, it's incredible.
Speaker 6 (30:20):
I would venture to guess that if this Pope is
with us for you know, little that he.
Speaker 5 (30:25):
Is like sixty nine, late sixties, Yeah.
Speaker 6 (30:27):
Graduating from Villanova in seventy eight, seventy seven. There's going
to be a papal trip in the US, and Philadelphia
and Chicago will be two of the places on that list.
Speaker 2 (30:38):
It'll be imagine Villanova would be on it. It'll be
it'll be at the Villanova Yukon game next year. Just
marketing up.
Speaker 5 (30:44):
He's sitting on the bench.
Speaker 2 (30:47):
That'd be perfect.
Speaker 6 (30:48):
They need they know, but that's one way that game
might be in SOUTHI ceremonial. They need intervention at the
moment out there on the on the main line. Think
about this when the when the Pope was at Villanova,
they were playing Jake Nevian.
Speaker 2 (31:00):
Yeah, there you go. I think early with the clean up,
the talk a little bit, definitely not.
Speaker 6 (31:08):
Well.
Speaker 5 (31:08):
Jaden cleaned up for Father Rob. So we'll we'll get
in to all that.
Speaker 2 (31:12):
And also Philad I'm will put out a little thing
on X the.
Speaker 3 (31:16):
Other day only school that's the national champion with a pope.
Speaker 5 (31:21):
Yes, it was pretty well done. We'll be back after this.
Speaker 1 (31:25):
If you get wageronic we're talking about it. It's the Gambler.
Speaker 2 (31:40):
Welcome back everyone sports, here, there and everywhere, Saturday morning
on to eleven.
Speaker 3 (31:44):
That must mean we are broadcasting a liar from the
Parks Casinos Sportsbook and Luvely Ben Salem Pa brought to
exclusively by the Bet Parks Casino and sportsbook alf Our
Odds Bets. Lots of games all come together right in
your pockets, sportsbook and casino in one app. Go to
Betparks dot com, the only app that we recommend must
be twenty one and in New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Maryland, Ohio,
(32:08):
or Michigan. Gambling problem one eight hundred gambler A.
Speaker 5 (32:13):
Couple of thoughts.
Speaker 2 (32:14):
By the way, Shan Bernard is sick for playing living
on a prayer in terms of the sixers lottery. I
knew that. I know that was his thought process. Beyond
I was going with the pope angle. But I'll take
the credit there too. I like it.
Speaker 3 (32:25):
Okay, all right, So you college basketball fans will be
heartened by this. The NCAA Men's Basketball Rules Committee as
recommend the video reviews of all out of bounds calls,
which only happened in the last two minutes in overtime,
can only be initiated by a coaches challenged starting this season,
So we won't have.
Speaker 2 (32:45):
Fifty eight every single one reviews of close calls at
the end of games. Thank you, good movie. How many
coaches challenges? Just one?
Speaker 3 (32:54):
And if you're wrong, you lose, and you have to
have a time out to have a challenge.
Speaker 2 (32:58):
That is a perfect way to do it.
Speaker 3 (32:59):
Yeah, well much, It's just they've ruined the flow of
the end of the games by this nonsense. Also Peter
VESSI was legendary writer in New York was knows as
much about the NBA as anybody around. Mentions that Mike
Current's favorite player and I won't name his name, has
been fined two hundred and twenty seven times for a
(33:22):
total of nine hundred and thirty eight thousand dollars, and
it's been suspended on six different occasions for a total
of twenty one games. Obviously, I don't have to mention him, Mike,
Why don't you just go off on your favorite player
from the Golden State.
Speaker 6 (33:36):
Warriors almost a million dollars, He's going, Yeah, but he's
made three hundred millions.
Speaker 2 (33:41):
Sorry, Wi, he does. They don't care about that. It's Yeah.
Speaker 7 (33:45):
When I saw that note for Peter, I s that
I gotta get this and donate that to me.
Speaker 2 (33:48):
You know what the funny thing.
Speaker 5 (33:49):
Is Draymond Green.
Speaker 2 (33:50):
Obviously I heard this the other day.
Speaker 6 (33:52):
Apparently off the court, he is a trick like.
Speaker 2 (33:56):
He's a philanthropist.
Speaker 6 (33:57):
He does a lot of good in the community. So whatever,
you got to be an idiot, he's going. He's going
to the Hall of Fame. Okay, we know that he
probably cost his team a title in sixteen, Lebron does
not win in Cleveland without Drey mind might he might,
he might have helped them win some titles. I guess
(34:19):
that he doubt that he did. Okay, so, but now
you're in game and he does this all the time.
You're so, you're in game two, Stephane playing you ain't
gonna win the game and all that. But he gets
this foul all the time where some guy reaches into
grab him. They call the foul and then he gives
the guy and know what, and he's the only guy
that does.
Speaker 2 (34:37):
And then he complains about and there are players in.
Speaker 6 (34:39):
The NBA that are complaining that he gets to argue
with the rect He should have been He should have
got another t the other night, which would have bought
him within one t of having to sit at a
game like he had the two and sixteen. Uh, it's
just it's beyond you can and they can't control him
at this point. There's nothing Kerr is going to do.
There's nothing anybody's going to do. This is who he is.
But it just shows me. And then the incident after
(35:02):
the where he's riding on the bike, somebody says something
racially whatever, which is totally. That person should be locked up.
They threw him, they threw him out, but whatever. Yeah,
and then Draymond goes off after about the angry black man. Well,
I get it, and I wouldn't. Nobody knows if he
was talked about the incident or in the game. But
you are the angry black man on the court. I mean,
(35:23):
and I'm not saying sometimes maybe it's justified.
Speaker 2 (35:25):
Sometimes maybe you do get bad calls against you, but
he instigates ninety eight percent of this. Yeah.
Speaker 3 (35:30):
The way I would look at that is the NBA
has been far too lenient with him for too long.
Speaker 5 (35:35):
He should have been tossed so many different times.
Speaker 3 (35:37):
The referees give you more leeway than anything, I agree
anybody out there. Finally last year they couldn't take it anymore.
After the thing was a darkage. Yeah, they just said
that's it, you're gone. You gotta go get counseling, which
he did, and he says, I'm good.
Speaker 6 (35:50):
I don't how many games was he out last. It
was a pretty significant ten games. I think it was
not an insignificant number, which somebody pointed out might have
might have been the reason why gold Steve was in
the play in instead of actually being like a five.
Speaker 3 (36:03):
Season I say this about him as a player. After
Game six last Friday, he was horrible. He was awful,
and he looked old, and he looked really old.
Speaker 5 (36:13):
And to his credit, he was great in game seven.
Speaker 3 (36:16):
He was great in Game one on defense, offense, everything.
I mean, he's just a really smart high IQ player.
Why this he has to get He still is doing
this after one hundred years in the league. I saw
him all through college at Michigan State, right, I mean,
I'm doing the pet State games. I've watched this guy forever.
He was not like that in college, and he was
(36:39):
a solid player. He was the second round pick for
a reason. He was limited, he couldn't shoot. It was
just one of these smart guys that helped good teams win.
And his last game in the Big Ten Tournament actually
Pet State wrote ran him right out of the gym
in Indianapolis when they got.
Speaker 6 (36:55):
You think Tom Izzo would have let him get away
with anything, no chance, no chance.
Speaker 3 (36:59):
Yeah, So I don't know what this is all about.
Whatever he is or is and off the court, I
enjoy listening to him on some of the podcasts. He's insightful,
But this is insanity, and they just have just they
just keep letting him get away with it. And the
referees are in an impossible spot in the playoffs.
Speaker 5 (37:17):
They don't want to decide who wins or loses.
Speaker 3 (37:20):
They know he's a very valuable player, but man, you
know what, somebody just needs to go in one of
these games.
Speaker 5 (37:26):
And I don't really care.
Speaker 2 (37:27):
You're gone.
Speaker 3 (37:28):
Just throw him out after the first team give him
a second, we get him out for continuing to argue, well,
he should have gotten And that's what the players Rope
says about, is they.
Speaker 5 (37:38):
Think he gets right, and they're right.
Speaker 6 (37:39):
The other players who could control himself, So this isn't
fair that he gets Did Dramond not think that was
a flagrant faul they own it or a technical foul
or whatever they do, and.
Speaker 2 (37:51):
They reviewed it.
Speaker 6 (37:51):
Did he not think that putting an elbow into the
guy's face, Well, he was convinced that everybody's out the ghetto,
like every knit with on earth right now that he
wants to take as other players like that. Pat bev
was what's that guy? Dylan Brooks?
Speaker 2 (38:08):
Yes, these guys, but none of.
Speaker 6 (38:10):
Them are this bad. Oh no, this guy is a
whole another love. Well, we're paying more attention to Draymond Good.
Draymond is he's going to you know, Dylan Box ain't
going to the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 2 (38:19):
Pat bev ain't going to the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 3 (38:20):
I'd love to hear Steph Curry at some point when
his career is over and he can say whatever he
wants to say, and he's the coolest on earth, what
he must say.
Speaker 6 (38:30):
You remember this last year the game when Draymond I
don't know if it was the game to finally put
him over to get the tan and and they showed
Steph and Steph wasn't wasn't even. Steph just went overside
looked at him like what are you doing?
Speaker 2 (38:43):
But nobody can talk to Draymond. Who's gonna talk to Draymond?
Speaker 4 (38:46):
Look?
Speaker 3 (38:46):
And he punched out his That's right, he punched out
his own teammate and he was at go Berry almost decapitated, right.
And then the Nurkics thing that was that they couldn't
even they.
Speaker 2 (38:57):
Kicked a bonus in the private parts when he was
on the ground.
Speaker 3 (39:01):
Yeah, it's just like what what how is I mean?
I get your competitive, but what after all these years
you still can't control yourself.
Speaker 2 (39:09):
It's actually a shame.
Speaker 3 (39:10):
It's because it's taken away from what a very good
team player he is on the court with all the
little smart things that he does. And again I was
having five last week compared to the BJ Tucker. But
that's what he looked like in game six. But he
took accountability with his team before Game seven, played great
as he did in Game one.
Speaker 6 (39:30):
But this stuff, the bottom line was still he was
probably going to get in the Hall of Fame, and
I think the great tell you what.
Speaker 2 (39:36):
Some voters will hold that against him, but they.
Speaker 6 (39:40):
Will I think at some point if you have that
many titles.
Speaker 3 (39:44):
Well he's Dennis Rodman like, he's that kind of a
player gets in for reasons other than the.
Speaker 6 (39:51):
Guy did Robert. He's not in the whole name is he?
But he won like five rings, right, they won five
rings because he played with Eliza wan and but he did.
Speaker 2 (39:59):
Jack and nobody ever covered him.
Speaker 5 (40:01):
But he was wide open every time.
Speaker 2 (40:03):
He's open shot. Maybe Draymond doesn't get in.
Speaker 6 (40:08):
I mean maybe maybe that's the ultimate punishment, is that
people just say, now you're you're an idiot.
Speaker 3 (40:12):
Let's put it this way. What Steph Curry's time is
up there. It ain't gonna take Law might take Draymonde
a little longer. Clay Thompson five years after his career
is over five years, Yeah, Steph, Steph in Yeah, Klay
Thompson in Yeah, no doubt, yeah, Draymond a little more
of it down but certainly a credit.
Speaker 2 (40:31):
But why what what are you doing? Dick?
Speaker 6 (40:33):
They can't you ever see a football player who's like
that and they're always getting and you say Barnett, they
just they just do but never I mean, just stupid Penalt.
Speaker 5 (40:44):
There's nothing like this.
Speaker 6 (40:46):
Who's that guy in the NFL for Cincinnati Bergk who
just did stuff and you'd be like, he cost his
team a playoff game to one year against the Steeler
late because he couldn't help himself And when people questioned me,
never understood what they were questioning.
Speaker 3 (41:02):
Look, NBA referees make a lot of money, and I'm
glad that they do. That is a brutal job because
everybody complains on every play. NBA is worse than it's
ever been. I don't get it, and and on obvious
fouls when guys are just hacking people and they're like
stunned that they call a fountain.
Speaker 2 (41:20):
But that ref that Deback tackles a wide receiver, and
that ref that ref the other night, and I think
he's a pretty highly regarded ref.
Speaker 6 (41:29):
The guy they were talking all the guys that are
in this now, they're not putting the This guy.
Speaker 2 (41:33):
Though supposedly is pretty good.
Speaker 6 (41:35):
And Draymond I would he should have just went, gone, dude,
get out of here, and then and then, and then
Draymond would have complained about the fact that the guy
and the look the incident that happened when he was
on the bike, that shouldn't happen. That that's wrong, it's
and so, but that's America, that's that's the world. That's
you know, gonna happen. But when you're gonna come out
(41:56):
and say, hey, people want to see the angry black man,
and you don't clarify what you're talking about, then people
are going to say, I remember when they told me
this is funny. This is nineteen ninety and they told
me I was going to cover Temple. I had covered
Villanova for one year. I was happy. Roby could be
an idiot, but it could be what was but he
was it was Villanova.
Speaker 2 (42:16):
They were in the Big East.
Speaker 6 (42:17):
You're going to the Guard and you're doing all these
things and my boss and he goes, you're good, Mike,
we want to put you on Temple because Kevin Mulligan
is going to cover the Eagles.
Speaker 2 (42:26):
I looked him.
Speaker 6 (42:26):
I said, I don't want to cover that angry black man.
Those were my exact worst no, because I didn't know
John Chaney. Right, I'm we're seeing you know, after games,
he's running after and it was the greatest thing he
ever did for it. And he said to me, he goes, Mike,
more stuff's going to happen to Temple. Okay, you're my boss.
You know what you're talking about. Greatest thing you ever
did for me. And yes, could John Chaney be an
(42:48):
angry black man? Absolutely at times. But I saw him,
Dick saw him. The people that saw him saw the end.
And maybe there's another side to dream on that did
I'm you know that we just don't see. That's very,
very very possible.
Speaker 2 (43:01):
He said.
Speaker 6 (43:02):
We look at Jalen Hurts and we judged Yohan, I
got Jalen Hurts away from the field, might.
Speaker 2 (43:06):
Be a smiling he might be whatever, you know.
Speaker 6 (43:10):
And I but again, I just I would say, that's
about Jo Channing.
Speaker 3 (43:14):
Of all the people I was ever around in sports,
he's right at the top of the list for being
a wonderful guy. Oh a fun guy to be around.
And alfter, the stuff he said was just for effect.
Look you and Eric Gui, right, you caught you coined Google.
People would look at that. What would they say? Angry
black man?
Speaker 2 (43:34):
Look at this? And again.
Speaker 3 (43:37):
John was so if you got to know him, I mean,
he was just he was the best. He actually used
to say. He would come out he was comparing himself
to Bobby Knight. He's yeah, yeah, I'm the black Knight,
I said, John stop Night actually is like that.
Speaker 2 (43:49):
You're not.
Speaker 5 (43:50):
You're like good people.
Speaker 6 (43:51):
But you know why you said that, because Bobby Knight
stands for good behavior or discipline, but want a job
he could he just look for every everybody but himself
and he goes, that's what that's and that's what he
meant by it. People like Dick had to correct them
and see that, don't put yourself in the scene.
Speaker 2 (44:08):
Not only you don't need to be with that crowd.
Speaker 3 (44:10):
For the people that don't know Mike is mentioning googate,
just put it into some context.
Speaker 2 (44:16):
Here.
Speaker 3 (44:17):
So Temple had owned Saint Jose forever. I mean, it
was pointless to even Saint Joe's Do.
Speaker 2 (44:22):
You realize that was twenty years ago.
Speaker 6 (44:24):
I do.
Speaker 3 (44:24):
And then Jimmy Nelson at the lot they West showed
up and Saint Jose crushed them two years in a
row four and I just routed them.
Speaker 2 (44:31):
No gating was even close, so they'd leave.
Speaker 3 (44:34):
Well, all right, Temple's back, except Saint Jose beats them
twice again, and.
Speaker 5 (44:38):
They're in the middle of beating him the second time.
Speaker 3 (44:41):
And Channy can't take it her eything he's at it,
so he sends in the goods or in this case,
poor kid named me My Anger Nices. Kid just went
out and started hacking people, and the officials did.
Speaker 5 (44:53):
A terrible job. It was obvious what was going on.
Speaker 3 (44:55):
They should have just tossed the Jim burg Yeah, Jim Burgess,
who's a great rough just wild so I know.
Speaker 2 (45:00):
I spent time at the track with him. He's a
total mad man.
Speaker 3 (45:03):
But anyway, they don't talk, and it ends up they
break John Bryant's arm.
Speaker 2 (45:08):
The Saint Joe's one of their starters. That was the
end of the goong Gate thing.
Speaker 3 (45:12):
And then, of course in the Gate press conference, somebody
says to John, what were you doing? And John is
the only guy in America that would answer, well, I'm
sending into goods.
Speaker 6 (45:21):
He's the one that said because the Boston Celtics did
that in the early sixties.
Speaker 2 (45:26):
He said they were.
Speaker 3 (45:27):
Sending illegal screams, which they weren't, but that is irrelevant anyway. Yeah,
so a couple of days later, John is still acting
out a little bit and I called him. They go, John,
can you listen to me for a second, I said,
Johnny Kid's arm is broken.
Speaker 2 (45:42):
Shut off.
Speaker 3 (45:44):
He said, okay, I will shut up, and he went
over and apologize to the kids. Really but yeah, but yeah,
that was and I of course I called it gooon
gate because that's what I do.
Speaker 2 (45:55):
You know, that's what but you were.
Speaker 3 (45:56):
I wasn't covering the game. Mike was covering the game.
I was not actually in it.
Speaker 2 (46:00):
There was a picture of me.
Speaker 5 (46:01):
It was standing at the door. This is two thousand
and five.
Speaker 2 (46:04):
John.
Speaker 6 (46:05):
John would come in and I got my I can
remember to swear I got my hand down like this because.
Speaker 2 (46:10):
I know, and Phil didn't come in.
Speaker 6 (46:13):
I don't think I think Phil talked down by his locker,
Phil Mark Telly. Phil was not obviously upset and Neamah's
fourth or daughter was a foul.
Speaker 5 (46:23):
When he fell, it fell out like five.
Speaker 2 (46:25):
But he swung his.
Speaker 5 (46:26):
Elbow at Pat Carroll at mid court.
Speaker 2 (46:30):
Carroll was starr.
Speaker 6 (46:31):
He was missed, missed by like I don't know a
foot couple of inches. If he had, mister Carrol, he
looked over ready to come over the bench, there would
have been a riot at that course. I was within
Monday at Jared cald Country Club with a George school
golf at.
Speaker 3 (46:48):
John Carroll put that I did not bring up Google
and again John, John, that was John had his idea
of how you know, it's just it's I mentioned that, John,
I said John.
Speaker 2 (46:57):
But John played when he played, that's what That's what
John did.
Speaker 3 (47:01):
He used to do stuff like he played in the
easternlygu and if guys would cause trouble, he would all
of a sudden throw it behind the back basket with
him in the face, and they didn't quite know what happened,
and they'd be unconscious and John would do whatever he did.
I said, John. They now have television cameras. There were
no cameras in Wilkes, Barry and Scranton at the Eastern League.
Speaker 6 (47:20):
You can't do this stuff, he says, okay, And the
fact that it happened against Saint Joe's made it worse.
If it happened against Saint bonadventure would have been bad.
But it was and again and near and my ingram,
I would love to sit down with you, nicest kid.
So he'd be about what about forty now, probably doing
well somewhere wherever the heck ne and myah is and
they near me sentiment and old Jim Barr had to do?
(47:42):
Is John right, You're going toss John, toss the kid
and go to go to whoever you say. I guess
it was deemed themopulus at the time that team was going.
And then say this stops here now whatever. But and
then Dick calls it I think on on his life,
I mean we might and he caught it goo Gate.
Speaker 2 (48:02):
Well everything was game.
Speaker 6 (48:05):
Everything It starts for the people that don't know, it
starts from Watergate water Game, which which not of course
to a month later when we sat down in Colleens
with the.
Speaker 3 (48:14):
At the end of at the end of that summer
like September, just to end that story, Martelli and Cheney
had not talked. Martelli was mad, really mad, because it
possibly cost Saint Jose At they lost the A ten
championship game. John Brian didn't play again the rest of
the regular season. In the tournament at Saint Jose ended
up playing in the n I T Final.
Speaker 2 (48:35):
They lost Plague two, didn't they in the in the
eight ten championship?
Speaker 3 (48:38):
It was the George Wasson. I don't think it was two, okay,
but they ran out of players. It's basically what happened.
And Martelli didn't forgive Cheney like forever probably, but he
certainly didn't forgive him at that point. So at the
end of the summer, I called John and I called
Phil and I said, look, can I broach a piece here?
(48:58):
John said, yeah, He's just bring Hern with it. Because
he was the beat writer. I was the Saint Joe's
guys said no problem. So we had the four of
us meet, and this is a great story. We meet
a colleens which people don't know. It's a restaurant right
on the Parkway right twenty third in the Parkway, right
near four seventy six Levine Straight Expressway. That's whatever that's
(49:18):
called uh and I'm not making this up. We were
there for one an hour at least, maybe having lunch.
I said three words, Mike said less than that, Martelli
said less than that. Jenny talked for a full hour.
By the end of it, we got a picture of
the two of them.
Speaker 2 (49:38):
We had our.
Speaker 5 (49:38):
Photographer way and here was our front page the next day.
Speaker 6 (49:41):
And Jenny stayed behind to get soup, to get let's
meet him some crimacelle Mike and wow, you would stay
for less a soup. So we walked out together and
the other three of us and Phil looked at us,
ago what just happened.
Speaker 3 (49:58):
And the answer was, we didn't really know other than
John just talking John.
Speaker 6 (50:02):
John was always said about something that had nothing to
do with it, had really nothing to do but but
you know.
Speaker 2 (50:09):
And and their fans of course, fans being fit.
Speaker 6 (50:12):
Just it was just no, that's what Phil said, and
we look on Phil's face. I wish I if I
had his cell phone at the times, I don't know
if I had, I wish I would just.
Speaker 2 (50:20):
Take a picture of it.
Speaker 3 (50:21):
It was one of these where you're it's mostly off
the record, you're not taking it, but mat would.
Speaker 2 (50:25):
I like to have a tape at that.
Speaker 5 (50:27):
It was like and to and.
Speaker 6 (50:28):
To Phil to both their credits, because I thought at
one point Phil maybe drug it a little more than
he should have, but he was the victim, so that
that's okay.
Speaker 5 (50:36):
Well his player got a broken yet now.
Speaker 6 (50:38):
But I remembered he was you won't let the kids
sit with the temple kids whatever, because I remember I
said to you at one point and you said, yeah,
maybe Phil. They made up and they became friends and
to the day John passed. You know, Phil could never
talk enough about Chaney and all the good stuff he did.
And but that was a bad episode, man. That was
that was There was this perception of John Chaney. They's
(51:02):
had nothing to do with the reality of who he was.
Speaker 3 (51:04):
But every once in a while he could do something
completely insane.
Speaker 5 (51:07):
Oh yeah, like Goong Gate.
Speaker 4 (51:09):
I love this Mike Jensen headline. Every time he thought
John Chaney was crazy, he knew exactly what he was doing.
And every time he thought he knew exactly what he
was doing, he showed he was crazy.
Speaker 2 (51:19):
That's not I'm not sure.
Speaker 6 (51:21):
In Goonggate, John had his reasons in his head, and
they might have been viable reasons. Okay, it was about
it was about Nate Blackwell was trying to sue somebody
for things that had been said. They kind of got
Nate in trouble and John's point, they asked Phil to
do it that Phil says.
Speaker 5 (51:37):
I don't know anything about what you're talking about.
Speaker 2 (51:39):
Like Phil, Phil was like, well.
Speaker 3 (51:40):
I'll explain it then we can get them break because
people would move on to the next stuff. But so
what happened was Cheney was upset that Howard Asking had
gone on television and made an accusation about Nate Blackwell
stealing stealing stuff.
Speaker 2 (51:53):
From the locker from the locker room.
Speaker 3 (51:55):
And then Phil went on WIP where Howard worked, so
he is associated filled with Allard.
Speaker 5 (52:02):
That's why he was so mad.
Speaker 3 (52:03):
And we're all sitting there like, really, we thought it
was about illegal screens.
Speaker 2 (52:07):
And as I said to John that day, said John,
you're upset for one reason.
Speaker 3 (52:12):
You were getting your ass kicked by Saint Joe six
times in a row.
Speaker 6 (52:16):
Just tell, just tell us, And what happened that you
mess in ninety four ats.
Speaker 5 (52:21):
Like every other in the history of the world.
Speaker 2 (52:24):
I mean, you know, okay, I get it, and you know, but.
Speaker 5 (52:28):
Yays, but yeah.
Speaker 6 (52:29):
Again, the perception of him. I can't tell you how
different than the reality.
Speaker 3 (52:34):
One of the absolute best people I've ever dealt with
at sports. I loved talking I will get Cheney anytime anywhere.
Speaker 2 (52:40):
I will guarantee you.
Speaker 6 (52:41):
The people in the media and probably even loved John Cheney.
I mean, they couldn't talk enough about him because they knew.
Speaker 5 (52:53):
How do we get from Draymond Green to John Cheney.
Speaker 6 (52:55):
It was something to do with with perception and behavior
and Draymond maybe a really nice guy also, but what
we see it's not good.
Speaker 2 (53:03):
Yeah, that's what I was saying.
Speaker 6 (53:05):
I don't know what Draymond's like when he's just Draamond,
but when you're watching them on the court and you go, yo, man,
what are you doing?
Speaker 2 (53:10):
He also does not like losing.
Speaker 6 (53:13):
That's all good. There's nothing wrong with not wanting to lose. John,
nobody does. But contain yourself.
Speaker 3 (53:19):
We want Also in the shock development, we went off
on a tangent. We got golf coming up top of
the hour. We got John Janssen with some baseball selections.
We have a couple of questions for the panel. Got
Jim Rooker. Uh we have and I mentioned this before
who who is the favorite to win.
Speaker 2 (53:38):
The Stanley Cup?
Speaker 3 (53:39):
And also what baseball team has the best run differential
in the major leagues? Uh and those questions, The Avalanche
are not the favorite. They are not only not the favorite,
they have no chicks zero. You're listening to sports here, there,

golf this week in Montgomery County, right out the turnpike
from where we are, Mike, what's happening?
Speaker 2 (55:30):
We're midway through.
Speaker 6 (55:31):
Well, First, we should mention that even though Scheffler was
minus like a million last week, Sam Burns finished fifth,
toddris fid.
Speaker 5 (55:40):
Mike gave us sam Burns to be in the top five.
Speaker 6 (55:43):
Another golf winner and the other guy almost the Cameron
champions by Lake a shot, but that's the top I
think top five might have been five to one.
Speaker 2 (55:52):
Vega top ten might have been. I'm telling you, this
is the best part of this show. He has been uncanny.
Sometimes sometimes you know that much, but once I.
Speaker 4 (56:02):
Start, but you're hitting are good enough, especially at the
rate that you're hitting them.
Speaker 6 (56:07):
Last week was hilarious because Sheffler was like literally minus
eye yet but I said, well, I can't bet that,
and I'm like, well, you know, if you want to
take a shot into a couple of these guys, it's
like you're playing.
Speaker 5 (56:16):
The exactly every week.
Speaker 6 (56:18):
If you're not trying to hit for a lot a
lot of money every week. Sometimes the best bets are
top fives, are top tens, because oh yeah, you're playing
with a lot of absolutely and then you can look
at past performance and say, oh this guy finished ninth
there last year or whatever.
Speaker 2 (56:32):
So okay, so we listen close.
Speaker 6 (56:35):
We got Keith Mitchell, who was only won once in
twenty nineteen. He's leading at twelve under. He shot sixty
one on Thursday Thursday. The weather was not as good yesterday.
Shane Lowry, who has wanted British Open and contends in
majors very good oftenough is eleven. Sepstraker, who's not a
bad player, is one more back.
Speaker 2 (56:56):
Then you got at seven under. And here's where it
gets fun.
Speaker 6 (57:00):
Justin Thomas Rory yep, uh more kala yep. And then
you got Can't Lay, who hasn't really done a lot lately,
but they kind of Michael, let me give out the numbers.
Mitchell's a favorite at the moment at three to one
at bet Parks.
Speaker 2 (57:14):
Yeah, right, Uh.
Speaker 6 (57:15):
Then three and a half is Lowry, Yes, Rory's five
and a half. The one strack is five and a half,
marikawas ten to one, can't Lay fourteen and j.
Speaker 2 (57:25):
T fourteen for those interesting So.
Speaker 6 (57:27):
JT and Rory are tied. But the prices are fastly
And the funny thing is I've got Max Homa in
my year long pool and he hasn't really done much
this year. He's been in not as good, but he's
six under. He's eighty to one.
Speaker 2 (57:40):
I can't. I wouldn't touch that. What's Mitchell? How many?
How many under?
Speaker 5 (57:43):
Mitchell is twelve under, so it's six Scotch.
Speaker 2 (57:45):
He's got to make up in two days.
Speaker 6 (57:47):
That's and I would say that impossible of all the
guys in the book, because my numbers were a little higher.
Speaker 2 (57:51):
But I was I looked at something else, I would
just go for.
Speaker 5 (57:55):
Only numbers at matter are bet parks. That's right on
this show.
Speaker 6 (57:58):
And Michailroy next week is going to trust be trying
to win the PGA at of course, where he's won
four times, which is where this tournament is usually in.
Speaker 2 (58:06):
Charlotte, it's Quail Hollow. So I'm sure.
Speaker 6 (58:10):
Rory wants to win every week because that's what these
guys do.
Speaker 3 (58:13):
Basically, it's been saying all week, I'd like to win,
but I'm really trying to win next.
Speaker 6 (58:18):
I mean next week, him and Cheffler are going to
be the two favorites because they should be sure.
Speaker 2 (58:21):
That's the way he used and so anyway I would go.
Speaker 6 (58:26):
If I was going to take a shot here, I
would go one of those guys, either more Kyle or Thomas.
Speaker 3 (58:32):
Ten to one or fourteen. Yes, two pretty good guys
to have. And that's the point.
Speaker 2 (58:37):
What you can do.
Speaker 3 (58:38):
You can bet them both, right, you're getting ten to one,
fourteen to one.
Speaker 6 (58:41):
And yeah, probably, like I said, I haven't looked on
my thing here. You could probably bet some of those guys.
Like if I wanted to get Goofy with Homa, I
could just bet him they finish in the top five
or something, you know, and he could.
Speaker 2 (58:54):
I don't think Mitchell's going to win, but he could.
And I'll tell you what.
Speaker 6 (58:57):
I don't like the odds on Lowry, but Lowry's good,
like if very very good, very good, so you know.
Speaker 3 (59:04):
Or you could do like I did last week and
bet the eight to nine exactly, which was forty one
to one, and Journalism gets crushed out of the gate,
loses his position and Burnham Square gets cut off by
the last eventual last play stores that they have my
pole and.
Speaker 2 (59:22):
It was a long two minutes.
Speaker 6 (59:24):
That's the thing that confounds me about horse racing, that's
all is it's all based sometimes on what the other
horses do. And it's like hot goals go off somebody's
skate and they always go off.
Speaker 2 (59:36):
Somebody.
Speaker 6 (59:37):
Did anybody see the game winner last night in the
Panthers game, Chy Marshawn, who's one of the great playoff guys.
Speaker 5 (59:45):
Did anyboys see the goal?
Speaker 6 (59:46):
The dry Sidle goal from from McDavid The one theme,
Oh my god, two of the best players in the
league and dry Sidles might win the MVP this year.
McDavid's not even one of the three finals, they came
down to one with mc and it's just it was
over the goal.
Speaker 5 (01:00:02):
We had less chance than I had.
Speaker 3 (01:00:04):
And my guy, my friend from who listened Carlsbad, California.
He's a big Kings fan, he said, and he knows hockey.
Speaker 2 (01:00:10):
I don't know that.
Speaker 6 (01:00:11):
He says McDavid's the best player since Wayne Gretz. That's
how much he's probably right.
Speaker 2 (01:00:15):
I don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:00:16):
I know, but this year I think he missed some
time with dry Sidle, his teammate Justice Good. It's like
Scottie Pittman, all right, but this year he might win
the MVP.
Speaker 5 (01:00:25):
All right, So we do have who is the favorite?
The favorite is no? Can we guess?
Speaker 2 (01:00:29):
Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:00:33):
I think this should be obvious at this point, given
where series.
Speaker 2 (01:00:38):
Are and who teams are.
Speaker 6 (01:00:39):
But see, I was going to say Florida, but they're
down two to one to Toronto. That's correct, which makes me.
But I thought Florida might have been the team. I'm
trying to think, who the hell's left?
Speaker 2 (01:00:51):
Damn, you had it and.
Speaker 3 (01:00:52):
Now one Edmonton. Kyle, your thoughts on a favorite for
the Stanley Cup.
Speaker 2 (01:00:57):
Winnipeg Winnipeg Jets.
Speaker 6 (01:01:00):
They weren't even the favorite going into the playoffs when
they were the best record.
Speaker 3 (01:01:04):
Barely have I have no Edmonton Oilers plus three fifty Johnny,
good job. Carolina is the second choice A plus Edmond's
up to one against or two zero Vegas and they're
coming home games, correct, right, that's correct. And they were
in the finals last just they were lost in game seven.
Uh three. There's three Canadian teams left. Toronto leads to
(01:01:26):
one after losing an overtime last night in Florida. The
Jets are. Winnipeg is one to one. They won one
four nothing for nothing.
Speaker 5 (01:01:36):
There one to Toronto.
Speaker 6 (01:01:38):
I mean, look, the Jets have only been into the
playoffs like three times in last they're like the Flyers.
But Toronto is obviously the greatest three. I mean, Edmond
is a great story for non hockey fans because they
know who McDavid is.
Speaker 4 (01:01:50):
So that about the football or the hockey team the
Jets and would be absolutely right.
Speaker 6 (01:01:55):
Yeah, But I mean Toronto sixty seven and they even
have I think they've won one series in like the
last fifteen years.
Speaker 5 (01:02:02):
I'm murning for Toronto. It means so much city.
Speaker 2 (01:02:05):
Oh my god, I mean, that's there, that's their day.
That's the Hall of Fame.
Speaker 6 (01:02:09):
Is they're the Yankees, except they ain't won. It's just like, well, Montreal, Montreal,
that's what. But but Toronto is the big city in Cana.
Montreal wonderful place. Toronto is the world class. Thirty two
years for the Hurricane since a Canadian team has won
the body.
Speaker 3 (01:02:28):
Yeah, I'm murning for the Edmonton Toronto finals, so we'll go.
Speaker 6 (01:02:32):
Do you realize the Canadians have only had in those
thirty two years, I want to say, three or four
teams in the final.
Speaker 2 (01:02:37):
Yeah, that's just that's nuts.
Speaker 6 (01:02:38):
Which is almost And Florida has won like three Cups
in the last five years. Florida Bay something wrong with
and Carolinas one one.
Speaker 2 (01:02:47):
Yeah, that's Carolina. Some of the biggest hockey fans. And
by the way, I think your boys we're.
Speaker 6 (01:02:51):
Gonna hire again.
Speaker 5 (01:02:53):
I think it's looking like it's looking more like that.
Speaker 2 (01:02:57):
I hope they all right. It's looking that like.
Speaker 3 (01:03:00):
Here's the thing I saw wandering about on the internet.
Speaker 2 (01:03:05):
Mike just mentioned Toronto.
Speaker 3 (01:03:06):
Hasn't won sixty since in fifty six years. What is
the UH in the four major sports leagues and what
include the NHL I'm not sure they're as major as
the other three, but we'll include what franchise has been
the longest since a championship. We're talking NFL, NHL, NBA
franchise and Major League Baseball. Uh well, Cleveland and football
(01:03:32):
is sixty four.
Speaker 2 (01:03:33):
I was gonna say Cleveland, that's not the longest. It's
not even not even the longest in football.
Speaker 3 (01:03:38):
Lions, good guest, sixty seven years, not the answer, nineteen
forty seven, Cardinals, Cardinals forty.
Speaker 2 (01:03:45):
Seventy seven years.
Speaker 5 (01:03:47):
What they were in Chicago.
Speaker 2 (01:03:48):
I was gonna say Minnesota and you know.
Speaker 6 (01:03:50):
Who they beat, Eagles twenty eight, twenty one, Charlie Trippy.
Speaker 2 (01:03:53):
As long as Minnesota, Minnesota is pretty long.
Speaker 6 (01:03:55):
They've never won, Yeah, the one, but they only came
in around six because we're doing one in the last
right now.
Speaker 2 (01:04:01):
They've never won one.
Speaker 5 (01:04:02):
You fifty five years nineteen sixty nine.
Speaker 2 (01:04:05):
Wow.
Speaker 3 (01:04:06):
And like some of these franchises, like the Titans or
the Houston Oilers, Yeah, AFL, where they did win a
title in nineteen sixty one.
Speaker 2 (01:04:16):
Oh, you're right, Houston did. That's right.
Speaker 3 (01:04:18):
I forgot about that. Oh yeah, come on, that's right.
Like the San Diego Slash La Chargers. They won one
in AFL time. Yeah, the Buffalo Bills won in AFL,
they did, but none of them have ever won NFL titles.
The Jets are looking at fifty six years. Mike just
mentioned the Browns fifty seven. The Bengals have never won
in the AFL or the NF.
Speaker 2 (01:04:39):
Yeah, how long have the Bengals been around? Fifty seven years?
Seventy wow?
Speaker 5 (01:04:43):
Or fifty eight?
Speaker 3 (01:04:44):
Fifty fifty six years for the Maple Leafs, fifty six for.
Speaker 2 (01:04:48):
The Canucks which is their history.
Speaker 3 (01:04:50):
Fifty three for the Buffalo Sabers, and next your five
Flyers at forty eight. It's amazing and alright, here we
go this this might be the hardest of all NBA.
Which franchise has been the longest without winning a title?
Speaker 2 (01:05:07):
And they actually did win a title.
Speaker 6 (01:05:09):
It's not like it's a franchise that's never Atlanta Hawks
nineteen fifty seven when they were just Saint Louis Race.
Speaker 3 (01:05:14):
Guess not quite correct, Wow, nineteen fifty eight, sixty six years.
Speaker 6 (01:05:20):
Stop pay Oh my god, there's one Washington now one
in seventies seventies, that's right, nineteen seventy eight, a mayor
forty six years forty six, Lewis is not.
Speaker 2 (01:05:35):
Wow, this is a fairy.
Speaker 3 (01:05:37):
This might be the hardest question at all, really, and
well Brooklyn.
Speaker 6 (01:05:41):
While we're doing that, the Nets, yes, the Nets have
never went but they weren't arrested.
Speaker 5 (01:05:46):
They won the a BA, but they have around forty
eight years. You got to pick some way that was
before to fifty eight Hawks.
Speaker 6 (01:05:52):
And baseball is also going back quite a long win
actually second to the Cardinals.
Speaker 2 (01:05:59):
Base Wow without a title.
Speaker 6 (01:06:02):
Indians correct within the caveat they are now the Guardians.
Speaker 3 (01:06:07):
But yeah, right, okay, forty eight correct, seventy that's all right?
Speaker 4 (01:06:12):
Yeah, I forgot That's why I should I remember the
Cubs Guardian series seventy five.
Speaker 3 (01:06:17):
I'm trying to think which the Brewers have never won?
Twenty five Padres have never won?
Speaker 6 (01:06:22):
Which NBA team before the Hawks?
Speaker 3 (01:06:26):
Very very different. You got to really know your NBA history.
You guys are too young.
Speaker 2 (01:06:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:06:30):
The team the team Utah, Mike Kurrent is getting on
it now.
Speaker 2 (01:06:35):
The team. The team was the Royal Cincinnati.
Speaker 5 (01:06:38):
And then they were to Fort Wayne somethings, or that
was the.
Speaker 3 (01:06:40):
Toy Detroit Pistons. They are now the Sacramento.
Speaker 2 (01:06:47):
I would have did they ever win one nineteen fifty one?
Speaker 5 (01:06:50):
Yeah, yeah, they became.
Speaker 2 (01:06:53):
For a while.
Speaker 3 (01:06:53):
They were the Kansas City, yes, oh, the Hall Kings.
Speaker 6 (01:06:58):
Yeah, they were like two much for there were two
different cities. That's quite a track they played. They played
in Kemper Arena.
Speaker 2 (01:07:06):
Crazy, they actually played it.
Speaker 4 (01:07:09):
What's crazier two different cities or the Athletics and not
having a city.
Speaker 6 (01:07:12):
Yeah, they look they had Philadelphia, Kansas City, Oakland, Vegas
and whatever they're in now, Sacramento.
Speaker 2 (01:07:20):
I don't know, they're floating around somewhere else. Should I
mention Jim Rooker?
Speaker 6 (01:07:23):
Now?
Speaker 5 (01:07:23):
Is this a good time or do we not want
to mention Jim Rooker?
Speaker 6 (01:07:26):
The reason we're bringing this up is Paul Pierce guaranteed
the former legendaries the Celtics could have been a sixer,
could have been a six er, I believe. Works on
a Fox National TV show on a daily basis in
La he's from.
Speaker 3 (01:07:44):
He said, if the Celtics lose Game two, I will
walk to work the next day in bare feet.
Speaker 5 (01:07:52):
And he doesn't live like in a condo next to
the studio.
Speaker 2 (01:07:55):
It's like fifteen or so miles away.
Speaker 6 (01:07:57):
So he did, which brought up with Mike tell him
that Jim Rookers. So in nineteen eighty nine, Jim Rooker,
who's a former Pirate pitcher and is now doing their caller,
he's la they're playing the Philms.
Speaker 2 (01:08:09):
He's Larry Amberson. He's Larry Amerson.
Speaker 6 (01:08:11):
I'm sorry, I thought everybody knew who he was, just
just for the I can't believe it was nineteen eighty nine,
but it was. So the Pirates scored ten runs in
the first inning at the Vet and he says on
the river, if they lose this game, I'm walking back
to Pittsburgh. I remember well Phillies won fifteen eleven and
he came back to one.
Speaker 5 (01:08:32):
So Jim Rooker now is going to do this. So
my boss, thinking.
Speaker 2 (01:08:37):
The guy who put me on you had to walk
with him to cover it.
Speaker 6 (01:08:40):
They sent me out to I think it was close
to West. He was started it, started doing it, and
I met up with He.
Speaker 5 (01:08:46):
Wasn't walking the turnfight. I don't know which mood he
took turn. He didn't have an easy pass. That would
not have been.
Speaker 2 (01:08:53):
It is three hundred miles, it's three hundred mile. I know.
Speaker 5 (01:08:59):
He did it for they raised a lot of money,
but anyway, did you do it right after this game?
Speaker 6 (01:09:04):
I think he came back. I think they went back
to Pittsburgh. He come back like later in the years
for the next game. Yeah, because he would have had
to take time off if the Pirates were still playing.
Speaker 2 (01:09:15):
And he took like a half foulur.
Speaker 6 (01:09:16):
I think I actually walked with him a little bit,
but he took like a and he talked to me
and he was he had a great time with it.
Speaker 5 (01:09:21):
He was hilarious about it.
Speaker 6 (01:09:23):
And he says, I would you know, I know, he
goes he did it, and he goes, I don't know
if I don't up my math again. But and he
raised a lot of money for whatever the charity he
was raising money for.
Speaker 2 (01:09:32):
But and reminded me when.
Speaker 6 (01:09:34):
You said, Paul.
Speaker 2 (01:09:36):
Pierce, that's rookie stuff right there. Yeah, you know, Paul,
but he's in his bare feet. What do you think?
All right?
Speaker 3 (01:09:42):
Baseball time? I couldn't do it before we get to
some games that John might have for us.
Speaker 6 (01:09:47):
Who knows the team with the best run differential in baseball?
Speaker 2 (01:09:51):
Who can know?
Speaker 6 (01:09:53):
I'm gonna say the Mets, the New York Mets for
John Jannsen incorrect information and to me, the team with
the best run differential is the team because that tells
you that they've been consistently good from beginning. The answer
would be the Dodgers, Dodgers, Dodgers.
Speaker 2 (01:10:06):
I know, I'm saying that would be the way. You're
explaining fairly.
Speaker 3 (01:10:09):
Obvious that the Yankees incorrect, incorrect, Okay, the answer is
Detroit Tigers.
Speaker 2 (01:10:15):
Yeah, that was Detroit is good. Detroit plus plus eighty four?
Are they legit, John, I mean they were good.
Speaker 4 (01:10:22):
They have legit pitching. I'll give any team a chance
that has that kind of pitching. They have a couple
of good hit they like Spencer Torkelson is actually playing
like very well right now. And he came when he
came up, he struggled a lot, but he was a
very highly touted first base.
Speaker 2 (01:10:38):
Really he's usedon manager.
Speaker 3 (01:10:39):
Right, trash trash can Yeah, that's your guy, right, Finch
is it?
Speaker 4 (01:10:43):
Or A J.
Speaker 2 (01:10:45):
Hinch Atticus Finch.
Speaker 1 (01:10:46):
A J.
Speaker 2 (01:10:50):
Matt Vierling is on the roster to he's hurt, right?
Their division isn't. I mean Cleveland's pretty good or I
Meanland's pretty good. I mean we saw white so always helpful.
Speaker 6 (01:11:01):
I want to see the Pope go to a White
Shock game, you won't have any trouble get a ticket.
Speaker 2 (01:11:04):
It is. It's interesting.
Speaker 4 (01:11:06):
They've had a couple of guys again. Torkosen was one
of them. Casey Mees was another one. Like they they
have Baya. They've had good talent in their farm system
that just wasn't panning out, and then all of a
sudden this year it's just all working at the same time.
Speaker 5 (01:11:20):
So it's working out. I'm a huge fair last two
months last year they were great.
Speaker 2 (01:11:24):
They came for me. They made again. They've had that
talent and three School was like a huge part of it.
The best.
Speaker 4 (01:11:30):
Yeah, he's a startup, but some of the other guy again,
Casey Mies has been one of the better stories to
me so far this year. Six and one two point
five three e r a one point zero one whip,
which is eighteenth in baseball right now. The guy's always
had stuff. It's just he was getting hit hard every single.
Speaker 2 (01:11:46):
In the American League. I mean, I'm assuming the Yankees
are probably always the favorite, tied for the best record
in baseball twenty six and thirteenth, same with the Dodgers.
Speaker 6 (01:11:54):
Can you get can you get on Detroit right now?
That might be like a decent I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:11:58):
It'd be decent, because again, so here, if I'm betting
anything in playoff baseball, it's pitching.
Speaker 3 (01:12:02):
Here's first and last in every division. Yankees twenty two
at sixteen by Sad Sack Orioles.
Speaker 2 (01:12:08):
Y'all o, the young pitchers are hurt, they're life.
Speaker 5 (01:12:11):
I can't bet on that pitching.
Speaker 2 (01:12:13):
One of the worst pitching staffs in baseball Detroit.
Speaker 4 (01:12:15):
Seventeen to one, and the Red Sox pitch today for
the Baltimore Orioles Kyle, our friend Kyle Gibson in.
Speaker 5 (01:12:22):
The Central Detroit twenty sixth and thirteen.
Speaker 2 (01:12:25):
White Socks just get PTSD. Can can you let the
host get through this?
Speaker 3 (01:12:30):
The White Sox shockingly er last at eleven and twenty eight,
which is.
Speaker 2 (01:12:33):
Better than last year.
Speaker 3 (01:12:34):
Fared in the Rockies, Yeah, Seattle twenty two and fifteen,
Angels pathetic again fifteen and twenty two, Matt's twenty five
and fourteen, Atlanta's up to eighteen and twenty. Phillis are
twenty two and sixteen, thirteen and six at home, nine
and ten on the road, Coubs twenty two and seventeen.
Speaker 6 (01:12:54):
Pirates who just fired their manager. They need to fire
their owner.
Speaker 5 (01:12:57):
Eleven entire everyone.
Speaker 3 (01:12:59):
Yeah, Dodgers twenty six and thirteen in Colorado, six six
and thirty two.
Speaker 2 (01:13:06):
I'm impressed. I believe they had six wins this time
last week as well.
Speaker 5 (01:13:10):
But it is a lovely stadium right in time.
Speaker 2 (01:13:13):
I know they're like nineteen and a half at first.
Speaker 3 (01:13:16):
They're right around the corner from where the Nuggets and
the Avalanche played.
Speaker 2 (01:13:19):
For those interested in such things.
Speaker 4 (01:13:21):
As Avalanche playing until next time. Whatever if they in Colorado,
Colorado's underrated. Good for Deon Sanders for shining a spotlight
more on the.
Speaker 2 (01:13:29):
State of college. Well, the Rockies are better at home.
They have four ones at home too. On the road, yes,
well it's been the problem.
Speaker 6 (01:13:35):
Remember when that Remember when the Rockies always used to
hit like three fifteen at home.
Speaker 2 (01:13:39):
They would just beat up teams. They never pitching for three.
You can't play in Colorado, I mean, Baldo him.
Speaker 6 (01:13:47):
And they have not won a World Series, right they
were in one when.
Speaker 2 (01:13:51):
Yeah, I think they got swept. They went. They went
the year that they beat the Phillies, the.
Speaker 5 (01:13:55):
First year of the Phillies were back.
Speaker 6 (01:13:57):
So yeah, Boston, the Cardinals and four where I believe
Brad Hawpe and it should have been who wanted to know?
Seven who I can't remember, guess trying to remember. John
give us some games.
Speaker 4 (01:14:14):
So first one I'm going to go with and sorry, Philadelphia,
I'm going with Cleveland plus one ten. Yeah, Cleveland's very
good at home. Phillies have struggled on the road a
little bit. Uh they're nine and ten on the road,
Cleveland twelve and five at home. I just like the
pitching match up a little bit better. So Tanner Bibby,
I don't think it's great. He has a four point
two six e RA, but Ranger Suarez looked like he
(01:14:36):
was struggling. There is the times where he had his command,
but it didn't look all that great.
Speaker 5 (01:14:41):
So I'm just gonna go off of Cleveland is good
at home.
Speaker 4 (01:14:44):
They've been hitting well at home, and I think they're
gonna hit Ranger Schwartz who's still trying to come back
from an injury.
Speaker 2 (01:14:49):
So I like Cleveland a lot. Give me.
Speaker 4 (01:14:51):
This one is just for my buddy Ryan, who is
a big time Cubs fan. Is it's his birthday today,
so happy birthday, and also go Cubs plus one twenty
five I'll take that Chicago. And then I know Corbyn
Burns is very good, but I don't think he's been
all that great this season, and Dustin May is not either.
But still, when you have a pitching matchup where it's
(01:15:14):
pretty even, at least with the way Corbyn Burns is pitching,
and you have the Dodgers at a small like minus
one fifteen price, I'm taking that all day long.
Speaker 2 (01:15:23):
So give me the Dodgers.
Speaker 4 (01:15:24):
And also, I know this isn't going to be one
of the best bets, but I will go with the.
Speaker 2 (01:15:28):
Angels over the Orioles. Kyle gives him as a fourteen
point zero nine e ra A.
Speaker 4 (01:15:33):
He is not good at pitching a baseball anymore, and
I don't care who he's okay for a time? Where's
that game at John in Los Angeles? And so La
is a plus one twenty five dog. I know their
picture is not good. I can't even pronounce his name.
I know their picture is not good, but Kyle gives
some stinks.
Speaker 6 (01:15:53):
So I'm going to how many people showing up? Have
you seen Charlie Morton's era for the Orioles?
Speaker 3 (01:15:58):
Oh no, they they took two fifty year old pictures,
and and they're two of their first stars.
Speaker 2 (01:16:05):
He's like a hundred. I think he's last one. He's
oh and seven with a nine eighty rs.
Speaker 4 (01:16:11):
Like I've been doing this a little bit today, so
I don't know why I like these, but I'm going
against the really good pitcher Jacob. The Grom has been great,
but I think Detroit has just been a much better team.
But well, you're getting minus one ten and they're better.
The Rangers aren't playing great baseball. Detroit's playing amazing baseball.
Jack Flaherty's on the mountain.
Speaker 2 (01:16:30):
He's good.
Speaker 6 (01:16:30):
Wasn't like two years ago when the Phillies were playing
the Braves and it was a big deal to Charlie
Morton was going to pitch for it.
Speaker 2 (01:16:36):
I remember that he was good a lot of old.
Speaker 4 (01:16:41):
You know, he got better as he was getting older,
because when he first started awful to the point W
a while, Yes, but I think he Yes, he was
on Houston, but before that he was in Pittsburgh. But
I remember the big thing about him is he tried
to emulate basically every single part of Roy how they's
pitching mechanics, and so he got pretty like big off
(01:17:02):
of that.
Speaker 5 (01:17:02):
He started doing he got a ring or two.
Speaker 4 (01:17:04):
Yeah, but then right then he started to pitch better
and better as he started doing this and became really.
Speaker 5 (01:17:09):
If he was in basketball, the Sixers would sign him.
Speaker 2 (01:17:11):
Correct, he'd be he'd be there there. Yeah. Well, the
Phillies did sign him in twenty six and he picked
four games and got hurt. So all those times I
think he was bad in those four games. So more
he's going to go out this off season.
Speaker 6 (01:17:23):
Joe's gonna come first of all, Joe's going to come
back in January. That that's number one. Well, yes, you
won't be in shape until next March. Paul George won't
care anyway, it won't matter.
Speaker 2 (01:17:38):
And tires Max he will be requesting a tree.
Speaker 6 (01:17:41):
Well, Cooper flag Man Tuesday night, everything changes.
Speaker 2 (01:17:47):
Number please.
Speaker 6 (01:17:48):
I need the ok season picking seventh and he's going
to go to Milwaukee as part of the Yannis trade.
That's your favorite. Got this three steps out of Milwaukee
for Milwaukee, like three or four number one picks. They
have none like in the next six years, or they
have won and you said, okay, they ain't winning with
that team.
Speaker 2 (01:18:08):
Now outside of they got nothing, they got nothing.
Speaker 5 (01:18:11):
Damian Lillards old as staffatory.
Speaker 6 (01:18:14):
I hope all the people in Philadelphia look at the
next season, all the people in Philadelphia look at Tyree
Spaxi and understand that Tyree Maxy is is Lillard and
Liward never won a thing.
Speaker 5 (01:18:25):
He's a great player. I love him.
Speaker 6 (01:18:27):
You can't win with him being your guy. Milwaukee tried
to make him their second guy.
Speaker 5 (01:18:32):
And it's just they had the right guy and traded
they had.
Speaker 2 (01:18:36):
Yeah, yeah, you're right, they had the right players all
in the year that they won too. I mean Chris
Middleton was technically the number two guy for them. Yea
very very good player.
Speaker 5 (01:18:44):
And you know what, they want a title.
Speaker 2 (01:18:47):
I'll take that.
Speaker 6 (01:18:48):
Then let me stink for twenty years. I can do
that anyway.
Speaker 2 (01:18:51):
Yeah, yeah, we're doing that now, right, and we don't
have even a conference final.
Speaker 3 (01:18:56):
All right, final segment. We are going to pick the
games for today and tomorrow. I over the lines again,
what are you trying to I'm trying to.
Speaker 6 (01:19:05):
Say the people were across the board, are you are
you listening to surprised? James Harden stunk in game seven?
Seven points? So when is James Harden not stunk in
Game seven? He's lost game seven's with four different teams. Impressive,
(01:19:26):
that's impressive. And the one that could be a record,
the one against the Warriors successful, and the one against.
Speaker 2 (01:19:32):
The Warriors where the point guard got hurt.
Speaker 6 (01:19:34):
I get it, Chris Po, but he's stunk in that
game seven against the Warriors.
Speaker 5 (01:19:38):
That was the one where they missed like thirty threes
in a round.
Speaker 6 (01:19:42):
The sixers against Boston a couple of years ago. I'm
not blaming him. He was, he won, he was brutal
as the other night he took eight shots exactly.
Speaker 2 (01:19:56):
So this time he's on the Hall of Fame too,
with Draymond this time last, this week.
Speaker 6 (01:20:00):
Uh, if I could choose, I would take give me
the Derby winner, my worst run, second game seven Denver
winner over the Clippers at home.
Speaker 2 (01:20:12):
What were they given?
Speaker 3 (01:20:13):
Like a point and a half. That was like stealing money.
And then Golden State plus two and a half against Houston.
Speaker 2 (01:20:19):
I don't know how you did.
Speaker 3 (01:20:20):
I went to for two, but I didn't care about
that because I had already blown my day the turkey
that was irrelevant.
Speaker 6 (01:20:25):
I think I mushed somebody I came. I don't think
I did very well Houston.
Speaker 3 (01:20:31):
I didn't do very well, I think we all took
Denver we had no faith in the club.
Speaker 5 (01:20:35):
But I also split on.
Speaker 6 (01:20:37):
I also picked against Toronto in the NHL, and they
they won their first two games.
Speaker 2 (01:20:41):
I'm try you were giving at Florida took the Knicks
in game one.
Speaker 6 (01:20:44):
When the team hasn't won since I got free, and
Florida's good defending champs.
Speaker 2 (01:20:52):
We're gonna We're gonna pick these games individually.
Speaker 6 (01:20:54):
Here are the latch uh after three point thirty ABC
Boston minus six at the Garden.
Speaker 5 (01:20:58):
You think they're they're already lined up. They're crazy. You
see what the tickets are going for the thousand no no, no, no, no,
no more the good tickets.
Speaker 6 (01:21:07):
Yeah, twenty six thousand, twenty six thousand fouls.
Speaker 5 (01:21:12):
It's a super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (01:21:13):
It seems like the biggest game at the Gardens since
ninety nine. That's why they invented television.
Speaker 3 (01:21:18):
Ninety four eight thirty Minnesota minus five and a half
in San Francisco against Golden State tomorrow three point thirty
Oklahoma City, and I think it's still ball Arena in
Denver minus five and a half on the road, and
then finally Cleveland at the Fieldhouse, and then in downtown, Indianapolis, minus.
Speaker 2 (01:21:38):
Five at Indiana. This is UH adults all right.
Speaker 3 (01:21:43):
Game three in New York, Game four in San Francisco,
Game four in Denver, Game four in Indiana.
Speaker 5 (01:21:53):

(01:23:22):
eight hundred gambler Dick Jaradi long with my current John
Jansen and Kyle Nunnemaker Boston minus six at New York
in the Garden down two in a series where they
were about a ten to one one to ten favorite
to win it. In other words, you had to bet
(01:23:42):
ten dollars to win a dollar going into this and
now basically an even money game minus one twenty one
on Boston to win the series, plus one hundred on
the Knicks job. We will start with you Boston giving
the six, next getting the six.
Speaker 4 (01:23:58):
Yeah, and I think I'm pretty give it pretty much.
Get this one away. I'm all over Boston in this one.
The shots are going to go down, especially at three
point shooting.
Speaker 2 (01:24:05):
Uh. And this is what it's gonna look like at
times for Boston.
Speaker 4 (01:24:08):
So when you're you live or die by the three,
it's going to end up costing you games and maybe
games that you should win, but it's also going to
win you a lot, especially with the way that they shoot.
Speaker 2 (01:24:18):
I like Boston in this one.
Speaker 4 (01:24:20):
Again, I think they shoot well and I think they
win pretty big, So I'm all over the spread.
Speaker 2 (01:24:24):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:24:24):
So I watched all forty eight minutes of the first
two games, and I've never seen two games play out
exactly the same. It was just bizarre. And here's what
I don't understand from Boston. And I don't have a problem.
Speaker 2 (01:24:36):
I'm shooting them Bigan threes, but when.
Speaker 3 (01:24:38):
You're starting to lose a substantial lead, any points matter
at that and they they were giving them, they were
basically daring them to shoot layups. The next don't have
much rim protection. They have finishing players on the Celtics,
like all of them.
Speaker 2 (01:24:56):
Uh so I didn't.
Speaker 3 (01:24:57):
I was baffled by a right they're usher you to
the rim. You're up by nine, why not go up
by eleven? What's the difference between eleven and twelve? There
isn't any At that stage of a game, there's four
minutes left.
Speaker 5 (01:25:10):
Every point matters.
Speaker 3 (01:25:11):
That was just not an understanding time and score, which
just made no sense to me. Boston is the better team.
I will say this, the Knicks are a tough bunch.
Man proved they were tough last year against the Sixers.
I think they would have won that series with Indiana
if their whole team hadn't gotten hurt ended up losing
(01:25:31):
Game seven at home. Jaalen Bronson's phenomenal McHale Bridges makes
all the little plays he couldn't make. He hasn't really
shot well in the playoffs at all until he has to.
And Josh Hart is a revelation. He's another guy. Every
little thing you want that helps you win, he does it.
Kat has been okay, not great, but good enough, and
(01:25:54):
the Knicks role players had been better than the Celtics
role players. It surprises me, but John, you are one correct.
The Celtics are the better team.
Speaker 6 (01:26:06):
They basically dominated the two games and just blew both of.
Speaker 3 (01:26:10):
Them, and you give the next credit. I like Boston
minus six. I think they're kinda win by twenty today.
Speaker 6 (01:26:14):
Mike, the Knicks have played six straight games decided by
three points or less. There's no doubt the Celtics are
the better team. They beat the crap out of them
in the regular season. I get all that. I get
the Boston has to win this game and the next
probably in a certain sense, kind of do too. I'm
taking the Knicks and the six, and I just I do.
(01:26:34):
I think Boston's going to figure out a way to win.
Speaker 2 (01:26:37):
Probably.
Speaker 6 (01:26:38):
But I'll tell you what if that game is a
two point game with four minutes ago, I know who's
going to win the game.
Speaker 2 (01:26:44):
Yep. And you know, and.
Speaker 6 (01:26:46):
Boston has an held a twenty point lead in two games,
and I think they have a look in their eye. Now, look,
they might come out of it today. Porzingis might all
of a sudden they had that. I don't like the
look in Boston's eye, are it all?
Speaker 2 (01:26:58):
I gotcha?
Speaker 5 (01:26:58):
And how about using some shot clock when you're up twenty?
I agree, although and.
Speaker 6 (01:27:03):
I get it, you got an ob shot. This is
what we do. And the shots may fall today, they
may fall the rest of the series, they may fold
the rest of the whole postseason. But you know what,
I don't like to look at it. And that garden
is going to be nuts today.
Speaker 3 (01:27:15):
Yeah, they'll they'll be great. I don't see that as
an issue frankly for Boston.
Speaker 5 (01:27:20):
In a million games.
Speaker 6 (01:27:21):
But I would say this one of the many reasons
they shoot all these trees beyond the obvious math and
they have good three point shooters is the volume of
threes also gives keeps possessions alive because you're more likely
to get an offensive rebound on a miss three than
you are on a miss layout.
Speaker 2 (01:27:35):
That's just the reality of it.
Speaker 3 (01:27:37):
But having said that, yo, guys get to the foul
can't make some layups. Jason Tatum and Brown, they're both
really good finishers. As whites say, that last play at
the end of the game is pretty good.
Speaker 2 (01:27:49):
Yeah, that was brutal.
Speaker 3 (01:27:50):
I mean, well, my man, Joe Mazzola, who I do like,
all right, we just ran a successful play.
Speaker 6 (01:27:55):
They ran the backscreen. Horford said it was perfect and
it got Tatum to the rem Well, you.
Speaker 3 (01:28:00):
The exact same thing. They just saw it. They started
it differently. They blew it up as the Celtics can be.
Speaker 2 (01:28:07):
They can.
Speaker 6 (01:28:07):
That's they won the title last year and they've done it.
They won sixty one games this year. Yeah, but again,
at some point, like you're saying, Dick, some point, maybe
have to sit there and say, okay, we're up nine
and let's run to play where we get a layup.
I would say this group, and they've been together for
(01:28:28):
half of the lot a long time. There's some of
that group.
Speaker 3 (01:28:32):
Tatum would be the number one guy that appear at
times to be entitled. Yes, absolutely, And they've done that
for a while and they got past that last year.
They played great sixteen and three in the playoffs at
an unreal regular season. They're playing like they're entitled again,
and I don't like that. That's because opposite of that,
(01:28:54):
they played like they want a title.
Speaker 6 (01:28:55):
They do. What is the over under and jailing today?
Points just curwenty seven?
Speaker 2 (01:29:01):
I think I saw I'll move twenty seven over.
Speaker 6 (01:29:04):
Jaylen Brunson is going to have between thirty five and forty.
Speaker 2 (01:29:08):
I don't know if it's gonna be enough. I don't
kyle what we got here?
Speaker 6 (01:29:12):
Next?
Speaker 2 (01:29:12):
Getting six Celtics giving six, Yeah, I'll I'll split the
vote here. I'll go with the Knicks as well with
the points and take it a step further. The Knicks
haven't lost a game by more than six points in
a month, wow against Detroit on April tenth, So and
if anybody to Mike's point, again, if anybody knows how
(01:29:33):
to finish games in a back and forth coming down
to the wire, it's the Knicks. I still lean Boston
winning this game just because even though they're playing in
title I could see ye their backs are against the wall,
So I think they'll find a way to win. But
I like taking the points here with the Knicks and
at home.
Speaker 6 (01:29:51):
Think about what they're telling you down and they're even
money to win the series. Yeah, so the betters are
telling you, and they dominated them right in the regular seat,
and they won all the games.
Speaker 3 (01:30:01):
I think, and again they led for eighty one minutes,
trail for ten. And but the Knicks are just a
lot of tough guys there. Look, they're what Villanova was at. Absolutely,
that's who they blest, who they play like. They're gonna
play to the finish line and you're gonna.
Speaker 6 (01:30:17):
Have to beat him because theyre not gonna be I
think a key guy in this game could be Cat.
Yeah if he has a bad game, and he does,
but if he can have a decent.
Speaker 2 (01:30:26):
Game of twenty ten kind of game.
Speaker 3 (01:30:28):
Like that, and the ports biggest thing hurts himself. Oh,
absolutely have no rim.
Speaker 2 (01:30:32):
Protection without him, and he looks like a shell of himself.
Do you see whof some of the shots Wharford two
up there and they didn't even hit the rim. I
don't care. He looked old. He looked like six ers
wharfs did Dick's roight all of a sudden, hells well,
he is old. He looked old, right, he is old.
Brow seven and a half.
Speaker 3 (01:30:48):
Eight thirty tonight, Minnesota, five and a half at Golden State.
Speaker 2 (01:30:53):
Kyle will start with you, yes, yes, one to one. Yeah.
I blew the lead on this in the first, uh
first hour. I love Minnesota here. I think Ann Edwards
goes nuts, takes advantage of the Steph Curry injury, and
ultimately I think Minnesota wins this series. Job uh.
Speaker 4 (01:31:12):
First of all, breaking news, Derek Carr just retired out
of nowherew sore.
Speaker 2 (01:31:16):
Car no longer and.
Speaker 4 (01:31:19):
They drafted Tyler Show, who is going to be awful,
just awful, the guy gonna be the.
Speaker 2 (01:31:26):
Guy from Atlanta maybe comes into play here, Kirk.
Speaker 4 (01:31:30):
Okay, maybe maybe they didn't. They make a train on it,
but right now would be they drafted Tyler Show in
the second round of this draft. Did draft they should have?
Speaker 2 (01:31:37):
Instead?
Speaker 4 (01:31:38):
They drafted a like twenty five, twenty six year old
quarterback who's been in college football for seven years. People
who still does he talented but do some wildly dumb
things as a quarterback, And it's very Will Levis like
to me, it had other tools, but makes some of
the dumbest places.
Speaker 5 (01:31:57):
I can't wait.
Speaker 4 (01:31:57):
It's gonna be chaotic, but I'm going with Minnesota. I
think it's very simple Without Steph. I just don't think
Golden State has much of a chance game.
Speaker 6 (01:32:06):
I got no reason because I think Minnesota, to what
Kyle said, they should win the next three games. If
I'm taking Golden State getting six because I just think,
and maybe this is a Steve Kerr.
Speaker 2 (01:32:19):
Draymond Green, I don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:32:20):
If Buddy Heel goes up, there's no reason Golden State
should win this game. Jimmy Right, I forgot. I'm sorry,
I forgot about Jimmy. Look, I think just okay so
far exactly. I think if Golden State's gonna win one
of these two games at home, which they have to,
I almost think it has to be this one, and
I think they're gonna come out because if they lose
this one, then then Minnesota starts smelling the blood and
(01:32:42):
all that, and if they can win game four, then
it's over because you know they're not gonna win probably
back there without So I'm taking Golden State in the points.
So let's say when the next game is this series
not taking time off. Now it's Monday, they don't get
up making now Game.
Speaker 5 (01:32:56):
Six is what they're looking at for him, Curry Curry,
and that's back.
Speaker 2 (01:33:00):
That would be.
Speaker 6 (01:33:01):
Following Saturday, maybe following Sunday, Sunday, Game six, Game six,
Game six, that's a week from tomorrow.
Speaker 2 (01:33:09):
Yeah, this game six, that's when they're looking at his possible.
Speaker 5 (01:33:12):
Return if they're still alive. If they're still alive.
Speaker 2 (01:33:14):
Right, I'll take the Ann Edwards over twenty six and
a half too. It's probably not a bad play because
he's due. Yep.
Speaker 3 (01:33:22):
I don't have much of an opinion on this game,
but I'll go with Mike. Whenever I don't have an opinion,
I just take the points plus five and a half.
I'll take Golden State.
Speaker 4 (01:33:30):
So a little bit more of a reason why Derek
Carr retired, by the way, so he was ramping up.
He had a lot of injuries at the end of
the year, he was ramping up in late March to
try and start throwing again and get ready for the season,
felt something in his right shoulder.
Speaker 2 (01:33:42):
He got it, He got it checked out.
Speaker 4 (01:33:44):
Eventually, medical scans determined objectively that Derek sustained a labral
tear and also had significant degenerative changes to his rotator.
Cop that'll make you retire not good? So yeah, he
immediately a living Yeah right, there's going it doesn't know.
Speaker 3 (01:33:59):
Three third tomorrow, Okay, see down one to two, Game
four in Denver minus five and a half.
Speaker 2 (01:34:09):
Wow over Denver, start with you, Mike, Mine just moved
the six too.
Speaker 6 (01:34:16):
Okay, look, okay, see might go win here and slay
them minus because Okase is capable and they, like they said,
their point differential this year was like all the record.
But I'm if I can get six with Denver maybe
to sucker bet Jokis didn't even play well, and.
Speaker 2 (01:34:33):
I'll take my chances with the six. I'm sorry, I'll
take my chances with the two. I'll jump the gun there,
I am as well. I really then I wouldn't be
surprised if they win this game. I'd have a weird
feeling about it.
Speaker 5 (01:34:44):
How about uh, how about the interim coach for being
the permanent coach.
Speaker 6 (01:34:50):
How about that, you're going right? If they win this game,
they could get the Steve Fisher.
Speaker 3 (01:34:54):
David Adam, David Adam, I will take I will take
Oklahom City minus is six.
Speaker 5 (01:35:02):
You just think they're they're they're going to I think
they're better, But they are better.
Speaker 3 (01:35:05):
I'm not if you tell me Denver wins, I'm not
gonna be shocked about it. Tomorrow night game four, Cleveland
now has their whole team. They are minus five at
Indiana last last night was not close. Uh And if
people didn't know Garland didn't play the first game, then Garland,
Hunter and Mobley did not play game two and they
(01:35:28):
blew game two anyway.
Speaker 2 (01:35:29):
They had the game one.
Speaker 5 (01:35:30):
By the way, why can't team could in bounds anymore?
Speaker 6 (01:35:34):
Then you guard a guy when he dribbles back to
the three point line to take a three?
Speaker 2 (01:35:38):
Yeah, like, what are you doing? That was just tough.
Speaker 5 (01:35:40):
The only way he lose is to give up a three.
Speaker 2 (01:35:42):
They give up a three.
Speaker 5 (01:35:43):
Stupid Cleveland minus five.
Speaker 3 (01:35:46):
I'll start Cleveland's better than Indiana by a substantial margin.
And I like Indiana. They're a fun team. They just
don't guard like Cleveland does. They don't have the big
guys that Cleveland does. Cleveland just better to me Cleveland.
I'll take Cleveland. Think they're gonna win bigger.
Speaker 2 (01:36:02):
Yet four points from Tyres, I'll second that, Dick. I'll
go Calves. I think they even it up here, and
then I think they have a potential to win in
six if if if they win tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (01:36:17):
John, Yeah, I'm going Cleveland as well. So we are
getting that trend of a lot of road dogs that
were winning. It looks like, for the most part, we're
going a lot of road favorites, and I think I'm
gonna continue that with Cleveland.
Speaker 2 (01:36:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 6 (01:36:30):
I mean, Mike and I took Golden State at home,
and you guys, Mike just took dogs.
Speaker 2 (01:36:37):
He doesn't care.
Speaker 5 (01:36:39):
I'm taking the dog in this game, even though Indiana
plus the five.
Speaker 6 (01:36:42):
Mike, well, last week when you asked just to pick
a team to win it all, and I've kind of
thought and I took Cleveland.
Speaker 7 (01:36:47):
Ye.
Speaker 6 (01:36:47):
I didn't realize three of their guys are going to
be out there right, Okay there? Well, hey, look it is.
Speaker 2 (01:36:52):
Injuries are what they are.
Speaker 6 (01:36:54):
You know, I'm going to take Indiana I think Cleveland
could easily win this in six. Like Ale said, Indiana
can't play that band. I mean they were like got
aful horrible. They probably stole game in Game two, right,
because they shouldn't.
Speaker 2 (01:37:09):
Have won that game.
Speaker 5 (01:37:10):
I'm gonna probably stall they stole.
Speaker 6 (01:37:14):
You know, there's been a lot of stolen games in
these playoffs and never stolen a couple. The Knicks probably
stolen a couple Indiana. I'm just gonna take Indiana again.
Same reason with Golden State, no good reason. They're home
and are getting points and uh, you know, I'm just
gonna take a shot. Interesting, Tyres, it's a shot of
the buzzer to win.
Speaker 2 (01:37:35):
That's it, Yeah, man, Tyres Haliburton. Yeah, who should have
been a sixer.
Speaker 3 (01:37:39):
But I wonder how many people that are listening even
are aware of that possibility that when they were they'd.
Speaker 5 (01:37:45):
Had enough of Ben Simmons the year Ben Simmons had
enough of them.
Speaker 2 (01:37:49):
And yes, right, he wouldn't play.
Speaker 6 (01:37:52):
Criticized for not dunking the ball at the end of
game seven, again not.
Speaker 2 (01:37:56):
Doing his job the one thing you should do as
an NBA player, right to shoot the ball, and he
didn't want to go to the fellon the coach kind
to throw him out of the bus and everybody else.
He said, I said, I won't play for you anymore.
Speaker 3 (01:38:06):
So they went on for like months and then finally
they had an opportunity to trade Ben Simmons by all
accounts to the Sacramento Kings for Tyrese Haliburton and something.
Speaker 2 (01:38:19):
Hal Garrison how Barnes.
Speaker 6 (01:38:21):
Haliburton's agent called Tyres said you're going well, he said
it on like a pocket to a reporter.
Speaker 5 (01:38:27):
He said, yeah, my agent told me I'm going there.
It didn't happen.
Speaker 6 (01:38:32):
And then about two months later, I think it was
in October when they got hard.
Speaker 5 (01:38:36):
That was during the season. During the season, right, well, yeah,
well into.
Speaker 2 (01:38:39):
The Kings considered offering players like Tyrese Haliburton, Buddy Heel,
and Harrison Barnes along with draft picks.
Speaker 5 (01:38:46):
I remember Simmons, that was still the value he had
at that point.
Speaker 6 (01:38:50):
Yea.
Speaker 5 (01:38:50):
And he hasn't been he's been worthless ever since.
Speaker 2 (01:38:53):
But he signed a contract for like whatever it was.
Speaker 5 (01:38:56):
It was semestra. They never never made.
Speaker 6 (01:38:58):
He was definitely Harrison Barnes and I don't even know
what they were giving back, but they didn't give as much.
Speaker 5 (01:39:03):
I don't think as they gave. But Morey wanted a stock.
Speaker 2 (01:39:08):
Kalid Barton is in a stock.
Speaker 6 (01:39:09):
He wasn't at that point right for sure, but unless
you actually watched him play, which he clearly didn't.
Speaker 2 (01:39:15):
Delm he doesn't watch.
Speaker 6 (01:39:17):
And by the way, by the way, was exactly what
the Sixers needed, and they wouldn't have had to give
up Curry. I believe who was their shooter, Yeh at
the time, and and whatever, Dre, I think they gave
up some. Did they give the Nets some draft picks
in that thing when they traded for Harden? I'm almost
sure they did. I could be wrong.
Speaker 3 (01:39:33):
I mean, Harden at that point was considered better than Simmons. Yes,
I don't help us that, John. What was that trade again?
Simmons and Simmons for Harden and all.
Speaker 2 (01:39:44):
I'm looking it up right now, Maeah, just it's not
clear Brooklyn received Simmons, Seth Curry, Andre Drummond twenty twenty
two first round pick, twenty twenty seven first round pick. Yeah,
so the six Sixers received James Harden and Paul millsaps that.
Speaker 5 (01:40:01):
The theory was that Harden was the better player at
that point, So.
Speaker 2 (01:40:03):
He was a superstar.
Speaker 3 (01:40:04):
I mean he was a star, of course, but again
that that's something he doesn't get criticized enough for the
general manager. But so he gets hard and he tells
hard and look, man, you're comment you're gonna help us,
and I'm gonna pay you.
Speaker 2 (01:40:16):
Except they didn't.
Speaker 3 (01:40:16):
Pay him, and you got a disgruntled Harden in a
shocking development.
Speaker 2 (01:40:21):
By the year or so later, could have cared less.
And one of them's two bench players that played key
roles in the playoffs, two first round draft picks for
James Harden and Paul Mills.
Speaker 6 (01:40:34):
Again, I will give Harden this and he won too,
and I can't take that away from him.
Speaker 2 (01:40:41):
And one of them Joe didn't play.
Speaker 6 (01:40:42):
Was that was that that year of the next year, No,
it was following year. The following they lost to Miami
the first round. They won games three and four and
everybody got all excited, and the games five and six
they played like doll do.
Speaker 2 (01:40:54):
Butler runs off the court saying they want as they
couldn't cover Gabe Fins.
Speaker 6 (01:40:59):
Once again in a big spot. Harden kind of disappear.
But he did beat Boston in Game one and four.
Speaker 3 (01:41:05):
But yeah, again that that's just I think it just
shows how out of touch with the rest of the
league that Morey's.
Speaker 5 (01:41:14):
Not a while he's figure it out that I mean,
he's about winning, Dick.
Speaker 3 (01:41:19):
I know Terrus Halliburton from Iowa State. He was a
sensational college player. And again, if you stayed up and
watched Kings games, he was really good. How many times
did I say Haliburton's name in last year? And but
again I'm not saying would have.
Speaker 5 (01:41:32):
Gotten younger rather than older, and they needed.
Speaker 2 (01:41:35):
A point guard. They don't have a point guard.
Speaker 3 (01:41:38):
He would have had a player that was going to
be thrilled to be with you. Yes, he's going to
be able to get the ball to your your star players.
Speaker 2 (01:41:45):
And allegedly playing with an m v P Joe. And
then you have Haliburton, Maxie, Yes, and then you still.
Speaker 6 (01:41:51):
Have Curry to make shots, and you still have Drummond
to beat the backup center.
Speaker 2 (01:41:55):
Which they didn't. Curry was big in that in that place,
he was good. That's all we could do. Shoot because
the guy from Atlanta killed him at the other end,
but he had timely shots.
Speaker 3 (01:42:04):
Yeah, there's a lot of mismanaged franchises and sports.
Speaker 6 (01:42:08):
I'm not saying the Sixers are the worst, but they're
in the.
Speaker 2 (01:42:10):
Phone, They're they're in the conversation. Would the Wizards be
in that conversation?
Speaker 6 (01:42:14):
The conversation and a team that's allegedly trying to win,
how can you make this many mistakes?
Speaker 5 (01:42:23):
But it'll all change, trust them. It wasn't not the
thing that lost us. It's going to change. Tuesdays.
Speaker 6 (01:42:30):
I want to see when Cooper Fla the newspapers and
the talk shows when they have the seventh pick, but
they won't have the seventh pick because Okay will have
the second.
Speaker 2 (01:42:41):
Then Milwaukee will have the seventh pick. Okay, see he'll
be in the conference finals with the seventh pick.
Speaker 3 (01:42:46):
I'd say next next Saturday morning, we're gonna be dissecting
the lineup of Paul George, Joe l Embiid, Tyrese, Maxie player.
Speaker 2 (01:42:57):
X, Jared McCain and Cooper Fla. Is in next week
the Freakness.
Speaker 6 (01:43:01):
It is Wow and it's the Preakness where the derby
winner will not be at the tenants, but I will
be will Breakness one fifty.
Speaker 5 (01:43:08):
I'll be driving journalism be there. Haven't said yet.
Speaker 3 (01:43:12):
I haven't said I would like him to show up.
I can't get my money back from last week because
he ain't gonna be three to one.
Speaker 2 (01:43:18):
This how many horses like seven or eight will run? Yeah,
something like that.
Speaker 3 (01:43:23):
At the moment, there's only one horse from the Derby
that's running in the Preakness, But which one?
Speaker 2 (01:43:28):
Where they finished? American promise promised a lot, delivered nothing.
Speaker 6 (01:43:32):
So your other horse that you had the nine horses
not running into previous is not Burnham Square.
Speaker 3 (01:43:38):

where he finished. But you all have been listening for
