Mike Kerr here into eleven. Wow, I'll be here till eleven.

Speaker 2 (01:02):
You're out of here. At ten NBA.

Speaker 3 (01:04):
Finals almost Indiana minus four tonight Game six against the
Knicks in Indianapolis money line minus one eighty two at
bet Parks for Indianapolis for Indiana plus one forty eight
for the Knicks in the finals mic Oklahoma City, regardless
of who they play, minus seven to seventy at the moment,

(01:28):
meaning you bet seven to seventy.

Speaker 2 (01:30):
To win one hundred.

Speaker 4 (01:31):
If they were playing the Sickers, what would they be
minus seventy seven thousand.

Speaker 2 (01:34):
They'd be a big number.

Speaker 3 (01:35):
Indiana at the moment is plus seven hundred to win
the title, whereas they ain't even in the finals yet
and the Knicks or plus fourteen hundred aka otherwise known
as fourteen to one.

Speaker 4 (01:47):
From what you saw last week? Yes, do you see anyway?
And I know we've covered sports long enough to note
that things happened. Yep, Okay, see just looks like and
do you know they're the youngest team to make a
fine I think since the Blazers team that beat the Sickers.

Speaker 3 (02:03):
That sounds right, you like they're talking fifty and a
half a century wow? Yeah, basically so yeah, you know
when you watch him play and and they have more
uh double digit wins in any team in NBA history.
They set a record for a point differential over the
regular season. I mean, this is really not that complicated.
They've been the best team all year long.

Speaker 2 (02:25):
They had one.

Speaker 3 (02:26):
Difficult series with the former champions in Denver, but when
they got the game seven, they ran them out.

Speaker 2 (02:31):
Of the gym.

Speaker 3 (02:32):
They ran Minnesota out the other night, and I did
run them out. It was a game was I turned
it over. I turned it off midway through the second quarter.
Since this game's over the long, Yeah, there's no way
to Sy're coming back. So yeah, they deserve to be
the heavy favorite. Or whoever they played, and they had
the best player. They had the best player. They have
the MVP, the coaches, nobody knows who he is, but
he's obviously doing a great job. Uh Mark Dagan, Old Dagonol.

Speaker 4 (02:56):
I don't even know what Pat Sga has a chance
to be calm if if he wins the finals m
v P. There's only three guys or four who have
won regular season m v P scoring title and finals MVPs.
Like Michael Jordan would be one, and I think Bird
might or no who Kareem I think was one of
them in seventy one, h Michael, and there was like

(03:19):
one other and I can't remember who the who the
one other was. I don't know if it was. I
don't know if Bird lending scoring you might have. Yeah,
I don't know that other question. That's why I like
about it. You come with these questions you have no
answers for Well, I said, there was not helping it.
Now I helped you. I got I could look it up.

Speaker 2 (03:37):
That's fine. Oh good.

Speaker 3 (03:39):
So tonight Jordan did it like three times. I'm sure,
no doubt. So Indiana minus four in Gamebridge Fieldhouse or
whatever the name of that Jordan is these days, I
think gay Bridge, it's not. That's Popper North, Indianapolis. Your
thoughts on the and we've got a lot of other
stuff to talk.

Speaker 4 (04:00):
Our good friend Deeddy Barkowitz, he does this little thing
on a website and he came up with this. The
last three times the Pacers have lost in the playoffs,
I think they've only lost four times. That's in the
next game they scored one twenty nine, one twenty nine
and one thirty.

Speaker 3 (04:16):
The over under, I believe is only like two twenty.

Speaker 4 (04:19):
It's in that way thirteen and a half at Bays
you have to take I mean, based on those numbers,
you have to take the over right, you know, because
the game you're.

Speaker 2 (04:29):
Gonna walk right in there and take the over.

Speaker 4 (04:30):
There's a lot of times when I should have done that.
Sometimes it would have worked out sometimes. But I'm just saying,
if the Pacers even get you know, one fifteen to
one twenty, and the Knicks aren't a great defensive team,
so it's not like neither team is no.

Speaker 3 (04:45):
So I mean, two thirteen seems.

Speaker 4 (04:47):
Light to me, unless maybe maybe what they're thinking is
it could be a blowout and at the end of
the game, nobody's playing. I don't I think the Knicks
are gonna show up. I don't think they're gonna pull
a Tea Walls. I just think the Knicks are the Knicks,
same South. They might not play well, but they're going
to play, and they're gonna play forty. Yeah, their starter
is gonna play forty forty two forty four minutes because

(05:09):
that's what they do. Town's played pretty well the other night.
For the guy that was questionable or whatever they said
about him, he'd played great.

Speaker 3 (05:16):
I mean, look, he just drove them all all night
and they couldn't guard him one on one and he
never passes. I don't know why they don't trap them mean,
the next pass he makes will be the first. It's
like I'm watching him. I'm going, Yo, where's the second
defender here?

Speaker 2 (05:28):
What do we do?

Speaker 4 (05:29):
By the way, had your main Randall doing the last
couple of games that he had a good year, Let's
be fair, he did.

Speaker 3 (05:35):
He had a good year. He was having a good playoffs.
Then he reverted to Dall being Julius Randall in the
last couple of amazing.

Speaker 4 (05:41):
Was the only one in sports though, like I think
A hardened. In the Boston Series, he won two games
for the Sixers. Ye, so I can't it's more than
Joe one. He did, but he reverted in game sevens.
They just revert to who they are and I don't
know will he takes seven shots?

Speaker 3 (05:58):
I think the game that they did they speaking speaking
of James Harden, I told make this story before we
started on the show. So yesterday I was up in
State College at the annual Penn State versus or Coaches
Versus Cancer charity golf Tournament's been going on for three decades.
A great event, raised a ton of money, and the
new general manager of Penn State Basketball is a guy

(06:18):
from Central PA. Named Scott Parrot. Scott was James Harden's
high school coach at Artesia in LA and then he
went to Arizona State as an assistant coach to Herb Sundeck.
And of course James then came along and played at
Arizona State. And I asked him, I said, Scott, I said,
what's James's relationship with Darryl Moorey these days? He says

(06:42):
they will never talk again. Well that's what he said, right,
And I said, well, what's the real deal here? He says, well,
he was made a promise and then when it came
time to pay, he said, we're not paying you. We're
not giving you a long term contract. So kind of
confirm what we all already knew.

Speaker 2 (07:01):
It's hard. I found that entry.

Speaker 4 (07:02):
It's hard not to hear the stories and hear him
when he and just not think that there's something. And
I'm not trying to paint because I don't know the guy.
I'm not in the room with him, but it just
it doesn't. And remember when the story came out about
Hard and then a couple of other players kind of
came out and said, yeah, I got like a similar story.
And look I'm sure that goes on a lot of

(07:25):
in the NBA and the end and all the leagues, right, yep.
But obviously he told James when they got we're going
to take care. And obviously at some point, whether it
was the owners that said, I don't think so, but
you know that, well, it's it's it's the Sickers.

Speaker 3 (07:42):
So your prediction for tonight is my game I would take.

Speaker 4 (07:46):
If I'm going to play a side, I would take
Indiana giving the four and I take the.

Speaker 3 (07:52):
I don't know that I have a strong opinion. I
don't even I want to. I want to say the
next one because I just want to say a game
shot in the Garden.

Speaker 2 (07:58):
It would be.

Speaker 4 (07:59):
Crazy, that would yeah, And I would say this to Indiana,
not that they can't win the Garden, because they did.

Speaker 3 (08:04):
You know what that would remind me of, You might
you might want to win the game.

Speaker 4 (08:08):
If if Indiana went back and won a Game seven,
you know what that is. That's the Hawk Sixers in
two thousand and win Game six on the road, go
but the Garden would what do you think the ticket
prices would be for that game?

Speaker 3 (08:21):
For the next to get to the finals for the
first time since like Patrick Williings.

Speaker 4 (08:25):
Days, but no, ninety nine.

Speaker 3 (08:27):
I think they made it.

Speaker 2 (08:28):
They did. Oh that's right, the one eight.

Speaker 3 (08:30):
Yeah, they were the eight seed, right, Okay, yeah, Youwing
made it in the.

Speaker 2 (08:35):
The Bronco Chase.

Speaker 3 (08:36):
That was correct.

Speaker 4 (08:37):
I was watching that from Pittsburgh at the US Open
and that was a Jordan not play year.

Speaker 2 (08:41):
Yeah there go.

Speaker 3 (08:42):
Also if in fact Indiana wins tonight, this is the
end of uh TNT's broadcast, is that of the NBA
uh It sounds like Chuck and Ernie and something just
going to ESPN. Yeah, but this, like, I mean, this
is this is a great It's like one of the
great broadcasts ever.

Speaker 2 (09:02):
Chuck.

Speaker 3 (09:02):
I mean, I love Chuck just generally because I've knowne
him forever. But when I listened to him trying to
analyze the game, he has absolutely no idea what he's
talking about it and he repeats himself like over and
over and over again. But I don't really care anyway,
because he's Chuck, and he says funny things and he
just doesn't care. And and Shack I can't even understand
half the time.

Speaker 2 (09:22):
But it doesn't matter. I'll never forget. It's just such
a cool brook he's.

Speaker 4 (09:25):
When when Chuck start doing the colleges and they gave him, like,
you know, two million dollars to do a month of
college basketball with yea, And I think he told Neil
Hartman once. I think Neil tummy, he said, Neil, I
don't know anything. It's obvious I don't watch college but
who care the whole year? Right?

Speaker 3 (09:41):
But no, but nobody cares.

Speaker 4 (09:42):
They like listening to him the shuck, I mean, and
and him and Kenny all right and Ernie they have
a really good they did they?

Speaker 3 (09:50):
Uh so, Chuck when Villanova wins with the Chris Jenkins
shot nine years ago, now, yes, it was think about that.
I finished one story like ten minutes after the Gangs.
You had to get it in, and the other one
you got like an hour to do something. Chuck, see
if you can do better the next time. I'm just

(10:12):
about finished and I'm ready to file, and Chuck comes
by and wants to start talking. So I'm typing, and
first I didn't have to listen to the tape recorder anymore.
I'm finished with that, and I'm talking to Chuck and
I'm on the last deadline and I'm setting this story
and Jack he would not stop talking. He just he
got the game. And who wanted to stop talking about that?

Speaker 2 (10:33):
Nobody? It was Chuck And you.

Speaker 4 (10:35):
Can't tell Chuck. Excuse me. I'm on deadline here, but
I'd like to see.

Speaker 2 (10:39):
It in Monday night in New York. That'd be a
perfect setting.

Speaker 3 (10:41):
Not that Indianapolis, which is a great sports town, a
great basketball place, is fine, but it would be fine
for t T to end in the garden with Chuck
going dessert on Monday night, regardless of what the result is. Man,
all right, you're our hockey expert here, Mia. We have
a rematch game one Wednesday night, Stanley. Two best teams.

(11:02):
Edmonton is the slight favorite with the home place there
minus one eighteen Florida plus one hundred. Both teams are
playing at a ridiculously high level.

Speaker 4 (11:16):
Your thoughts on the hockey First Canadian team to get
to back to back finals since the eighty seven and
eighty eight Oilers who won both years and had Grestban
is still there. They won in ninety without him after they.

Speaker 3 (11:30):
Traded trade him.

Speaker 4 (11:32):
Yeah, I mean, look, you and I have been saying this,
you know, just have a Canadian team win.

Speaker 3 (11:40):
How is that possible? It's their sport. What is going
What happened to Canada? What does the matter with distreague?
Florida is dominating? Yeah that they should Carolina think about this.
It should not allow Eastern Conference final. The Eastern Conference
Final was Florida Carolina. Yeah right, but that's where was
like Boston Tampa.

Speaker 2 (11:59):
Was good for Philadelphis play hockey.

Speaker 4 (12:01):
Do you know Boston out, Rangers, out, Flyers out, Chicago out,
the Islanders.

Speaker 3 (12:07):
Out like name name more teams.

Speaker 4 (12:10):
Toronto eventually out because always I didn't look. I think
this is this could be a great show for for
the NHL because he probably is the two best teams.

Speaker 3 (12:21):
Yeah, they didn't win.

Speaker 4 (12:22):
I mean Winnipeg had the most points and I think
Washington had the most points in the in the East.

Speaker 2 (12:27):
But I'm rooting for the Oilers. I don't know.

Speaker 4 (12:32):
I know the Florida Golie has been really, really good.
He's the second favorite to win the con Smife, which
goes to the m v P.

Speaker 3 (12:39):
You were saying dry titles. He went in the water.
Here's the here's a bet, right, So the con Smith
which is the m v P of the Stanley the.

Speaker 4 (12:45):
Whole play, the whole playoffs, right, that's why dry title
might be one.

Speaker 3 (12:50):
So McDavid is plus one oh five. All right, fine,
he's Michael Jordan.

Speaker 4 (12:54):
He's like the guys, although he hasn't necessarily been their
best player this year.

Speaker 2 (12:58):
Huh. Dry sitle is eleven to one.

Speaker 3 (13:01):
What if he goes nuts and has like fifteen.

Speaker 2 (13:04):
Goals in the in the series?

Speaker 3 (13:06):
I mean eleven it one is a pretty big number
for your second is split. Although and again I don't
know how they do this?

Speaker 4 (13:12):
Do they wait? How the guys have played the first
three rounds? I don't know this man. The one guy
just got hurt and he's out for the series, and
he had led them in.

Speaker 3 (13:21):
Goals and the only two names I know if I tried,
I'm making it up.

Speaker 4 (13:25):
But again, you know, and look they had last year
they lost, they were down three zip, they came back
to force a game seven. Brabroski threw a shutout in
the in game seven back in Florida.

Speaker 3 (13:38):
So last year Florida led three to zero, then Edmonton
won three. And any team ever done that in the
nine in the finals, it's never happened. Flyers had done
against Boston, remember that at Islanders had done it. Way
back in the day, the second year the Flyers won
the title, and then some team had done it in

(13:58):
like nineteen forty two Toronto or so I am going
as far out on a limb, I'm giving Edmonton out
as a.

Speaker 2 (14:05):
Lock just on general principles.

Speaker 3 (14:10):
And my reasoning is I have not because if I
try to tell you, I know, literally.

Speaker 4 (14:14):
This would be like how can I put this if Okay,
let's say Boston had never gotten hurt or Cleveland it
never got hurt. This would be like this would be
like the Dodgers Yankees World Series. For these are the
two Maybe they weren't the best teams in the regular
season they have made which means nothing in hockey, but
they got here, which is you know, and it's you

(14:37):
get a repeat from last year. I think this was
the first time there's been like back to back years
with the same two teams in a long time. So,
you know, And and look, the whole Canada's rooting for,
you know, the Oilers because they haven't won it.

Speaker 3 (14:50):
And then there's the eastern half of Canada still interested
in Edmonton. How does that work? That's a good question.

Speaker 4 (14:58):
But I would think they can this expert, I mean
you know, I I would think if they care at all.
I don't think anybody in Montreal is rooting for Florida.
You don't think that's especially now that they don't travel
here anymore.

Speaker 2 (15:15):
That's right? Uh, what is the biggest.

Speaker 4 (15:17):
Event today in sports worldwide? It's the soccer game the
champion But your team won the one the counts for me, Liverpool?
See the guy they just signed here signing? So who's
it's PSG.

Speaker 3 (15:36):
Paris Centerment Is that the team that Milan? Who's the
star PSG?

Speaker 5 (15:40):
Is it?

Speaker 3 (15:40):
Is it the guy I'm thinking over? Well, they're bapa
is gone. I mean a lot of the stars.

Speaker 4 (15:45):
Yeah, they're just really good. Look they wasn't on that team. Yeah,
I think they had. They had a bunch of stars
at one point.

Speaker 3 (15:51):
So the four best UH club teams in the world
are Paris Centerment Enter, which they're playing for the title today.

Speaker 2 (16:00):
I believe this is in this in Berlin.

Speaker 3 (16:03):
Why do I think that where's interbased at Milan?

Speaker 2 (16:07):
Oh?

Speaker 3 (16:07):
Okay, okay, Barcelona which inter beat, and Liverpool which Paris
Center Man beat. And I still haven't figured this out.
I don't understand enough of that soccer. But they played
in the in the round of sixty PSG at Liverpool.
Liverpool had the best record and somehow PSG had just
barely gotten it through.

Speaker 2 (16:28):
I don't know.

Speaker 3 (16:28):
They must had guys heard or whatever. PSG is minus
one sixty seven inter plus one point thirty?

Speaker 4 (16:36):
Now is that for sixty minutes? Is that for ninety minutes?
For who wins the game? Okay?

Speaker 2 (16:40):
So ultimately penalty kicks? Whatever? Who's the chiang?

Speaker 4 (16:43):
Did they play the fifteen and fifteen of over until
the extra time again?

Speaker 2 (16:47):
Then they'll go to or overtime?

Speaker 3 (16:49):
Yeah, and then I'll go to penalties, which I don't
really want to see, but we see it a lot.
I've seen both teams, and I am a soccer expert.
Quotes not really. Uh, Paris Center managed one of the
best teams I've ever seen. They're unbelievably athletic. What time
is this on three o'clock on CBS.

Speaker 4 (17:10):
Okay, might have to tune in for the second time.

Speaker 3 (17:14):
In my life.

Speaker 4 (17:15):
Did you watch the watch that game Real Madrid Liverpool?

Speaker 3 (17:19):
You still really?

Speaker 4 (17:20):
Yeah?

Speaker 3 (17:22):
One shot?

Speaker 2 (17:23):
They got one? One shot?

Speaker 3 (17:24):
Liverpool had like twenty shots like the guy for Real
Madrid had like nineteen saves.

Speaker 2 (17:29):
It was like, why is this the.

Speaker 4 (17:32):
One guy There was one pretty big player this week
that came out and said our season's Oh no, no,
that was a different sport. I'm sorry, but they've said it.
In soccer, it just goes on forever. Right, It's almost
like no downtime.

Speaker 3 (17:46):
They don't be off, like they come back in August.
Most of the most of the serious leagues, I've dot
like this couple of months off. But yeah, I mean
most of the teams have been their season has been
over for a while, right because they Liverpool played last Sunday,
but they'd already clinched the Premier League. So where is
Why can I not find out where this game is? Spain?

Speaker 2 (18:03):
Maybe?

Speaker 3 (18:04):
Was it definitely not in Spain. I want to say Berlin,
but they move it around like it's it's.

Speaker 2 (18:11):
Munich, And I knew it was in Germany.

Speaker 3 (18:12):
So it's one of those things where I think it's
in the Olympic Stadium in Munich, Okay. From nineteen seventy two,
you were, you were in Nutstate, it was yeah, yeah
I was, indeed I was.

Speaker 2 (18:21):
But yeah, it's worth seeing.

Speaker 3 (18:22):
I mean, if you like high level soccer, uh, you're
talking about probably half a dozen of the best players
in the world.

Speaker 2 (18:30):
On these two teams.

Speaker 3 (18:32):
It'll be great theater and the cool thing is here
and you're watching it. You really you don't have any
anchors because you're going to carry wins. Well, you don't.
Some people did. Most of our people don't care unless
you've been on one of the squashed and beat parks,
which I would advise you to do.

Speaker 4 (18:46):
Yes, I don't know if I've ever issued before. When
you were there in seventy two? Were you there when
the hostage things?

Speaker 2 (18:51):
I was not there.

Speaker 3 (18:52):
It was it was happening. I thought it was going
to get called off. Most it probably should have been
called off. Should Avery brund Each Yeah, but no, I
came down after that. And but you were dire for
the basketball game.

Speaker 1 (19:04):
I was.

Speaker 3 (19:05):
I saw the last two games. US beat Italy in
the semi finals handily, as I recall, and then and
then of course the final game was the legendary piteous
game where they lost for the first time an Olympic history.

Speaker 2 (19:23):
Guy. Yeah, and Doug Collins.

Speaker 3 (19:27):
You know, I know very well thrust with three seconds
left to give the US the lead, he almost got crossed.
They ran him into the stanchion other was dead, and
then of course the Russians got three shot. Was after that?
It was before that. Oh, that was the last day
of the Olympics. This was the day of the basket.

Speaker 4 (19:47):
So the host thing happened. But you hung around for
the bank. I wasn't there yet. Oh oh, I'm sorry.
Hostage thing just in Germany.

Speaker 2 (19:55):
Correct.

Speaker 3 (19:55):
I thought it was going to be I said, well,
I guess what. This is not going to happen, and
then I said, well it is gonnapp So yeah, I went.
You could buy tickets, scalp tickets on the street. They
got Mark Spitz. Theholl out of there. Swimming, swimming was
long over, and then I was in. I was in
a stadium for some track and field. I saw the
end of the marathon. I saw some other events. I

(20:18):
remember being I think the end of the cathlon.

Speaker 2 (20:20):
I remember braining.

Speaker 3 (20:21):
But yes, I was at that stadium of course, sure
where I'm almost sure that's where the soccer is being.
Show must go on.

Speaker 4 (20:26):
We got nine people dead, but hey, we'll just.

Speaker 3 (20:29):
Yeah, I mean, there's a great by the way, it's
a great documentary out there on what ABC and Jim
McKay and all the people went through uh in them
was nuts. Yeah, however many hours it was from when
the host the Israeli hostages were first captured until the

(20:50):
final win, and there was different reports coming out of it. Right,
it's originally they saw every everything's fine, everybody's saved, and
of course nobody yeah yeah yeah, but it's it's worth
it's absolutely worth seeing. I want to say, it's on
h feet. Oh I should know it. I did watch it.
It was fifty three years ago.

Speaker 2 (21:08):
I'm aware of that.

Speaker 3 (21:08):
My God, Jesus, everything is going fast forward at this
particular point time.

Speaker 5 (21:14):
Gentlemen, let me add you to this one too as well.
September fifth. It's the name of the movie. Fantastic awesome. Yes, yeah,
thank you, Sean. Yeah, it's really uh.

Speaker 3 (21:23):
I would recommend it to everybody, especially younger people that
you know, we lived through it, Mike and I old
enough to remember it. But Sean, I mean, what did
you when you saw it?

Speaker 6 (21:32):
What?

Speaker 2 (21:33):
What what did you think? Watching it and going reliving
all exactly that?

Speaker 5 (21:37):
Well, and you know, I'm forty four, Dick, so just
just just the tab it before me, so and I
knew of it obviously.

Speaker 2 (21:45):
It's a huge deal.

Speaker 5 (21:45):
But you know, on the ins and outs, and then
the media side of things obviously applies to me or
appeals to me. So that was fascinating, and you know,
he had the sports side of things over there trying
to handle it. Instead you had people, the big wigs
back home say no, this is ours. So it was
really fascinating and of course, you know, just a sad

(22:06):
state of affairs that took place.

Speaker 3 (22:08):
No question, and beginning of like a long national, worldwide nightmare.

Speaker 2 (22:12):
I mean, people didn't really understand.

Speaker 3 (22:14):
At the times we lived in.

Speaker 4 (22:16):
Yeah, Vietnam War, Yeah, water d he was about to
seventy four that what you know what the Israeli thing. Sure,
I'm missing a couple of things, and.

Speaker 2 (22:27):
It goes on forever.

Speaker 3 (22:28):
But yeah, Sean to your point again September fifth, definitely
watch it.

Speaker 4 (22:31):
And one of the to Shaun's point, ABC Sports was
it was their show in the Olympics.

Speaker 3 (22:38):
Sure, but ABC News wanted to take over, and Ruine Arledge,
who then eventually became the president of ABC News, was
then the guy ran ABC Sports and no, people don't
know what you're doing.

Speaker 4 (22:48):
You know, we this is what we do. We know
how to do this. And there was this big turf War,
and that's what that's one of.

Speaker 3 (22:54):
The fascinating parts about that documentary is to see how
that all played out and some people made some terrible
decisions in the moment. In retrospect, easy to see that
you should have done it, but it's never easy when.

Speaker 2 (23:06):
You're in the moment.

Speaker 4 (23:07):
And showing me a moment like that, you know, it's
interesting showing about that too.

Speaker 3 (23:11):
It was twenty seven.

Speaker 4 (23:12):
Years after the end of World War Two and there
was a lot of controversy whether Germany should even get,
of course a games because of what had happened, you know,
with the Holocaust or that. And then it looked like
they were going to get through it, and it was
it was a great you know, celebration of marks, you know,
and then that happened and it was just like it,
you know.

Speaker 3 (23:31):
And in the end, the German government messed the whole pow.
I mean, it was a disaster, not an easy situation.
There's no handbook going how to do it right for
the people are listening to that don't know precisely what
we're talking about.

Speaker 2 (23:44):
Again.

Speaker 3 (23:45):
Black September, which was the organization basically took it, I
want to say, was thirteen Israeli hostages, Shawn athletes coaches
that they were all in the same building, thirty one Connolly,
wrestling guys, I think, a lot of wrestling, and eventually
they were trying to ferry them out of the country.

(24:06):
They were gonna take a plane and the helicopter ends
up getting just blown up at the airport. Every as
Mike said, Jim McKay at the end says, every they're
all gone.

Speaker 2 (24:16):
Yeah. That was one of the in an.

Speaker 3 (24:18):
Episode which is a precursor to so much of what's
happened in the last half century.

Speaker 2 (24:23):
That was the beginning of it.

Speaker 4 (24:24):
And showing you know, most of us probably I don't
know how long it lasted, was like a day, day
and a half, I'm not I don't remember, but it
was like everybody was watching. It was like when the
earthquake hit San Francisco and I watched TV for like
twenty four hours straight just to you know. And that's
how it was because that was kind of the first
terrorist incident we really that was it. That was so

(24:46):
nobody really knew what was going on or any of
that stuff.

Speaker 5 (24:49):
I caught this movie probably at like midnight one night
a couple of weeks ago, and yeah, it's one of
those movies that really get the juices going. I didn't
sleep very well that night, that's sure for sure.

Speaker 3 (25:00):
Go watch you can't off if you can find it.

Speaker 4 (25:02):
There's a couple of movies Raid Only and Tebby, which
happened a couple years after that, where they actually hijacked
like eighty people yep, and took them to what was
idiot means again Ganda and they and the Israels went
in and rescued him. They lost one lost one person.
But it's it's amazing. Yeah, it's it's really a beautifully

(25:23):
a shot that.

Speaker 3 (25:24):
It's a beautifully done doc and I definitely recommend it
to everybody. And it's a history lesson. It explains a
lot about television that it was fascinating at one point.
Remember they were having to barter sewn with some other
network for satellite time yep. Oh, like their satellite time
was up right, but they obviously needed to be live

(25:44):
and back then.

Speaker 2 (25:45):
It wasn't like it is now. There's it wasn't.

Speaker 4 (25:47):
Howard Cosell he was on the air during some of that,
I believe if he was, I don't remember him being
in the Doctor You showing No, I don't remember. Yeah,
maybe I'm wrong. I'm sure he was working for Abies.
I'm sure I'm doing the teams. Yeah, yeah, that would
make sense. But yeah, definitely check it out. But yeah,
I could see how that would be a tough night
to sleep after watching that though.

Speaker 2 (26:07):
Yeah, definitely. You know, like I said that, that appeals
to me.

Speaker 5 (26:10):
I always loved the media side of things, and sure,
and when I watched that was I knew of it,
but I wasn't prepared and it was really good, really good.

Speaker 3 (26:18):
Yeah, And again, it's fascinating to see and I didn't
I didn't even know a lot of this that behind.

Speaker 2 (26:22):
The scenes, that some executives are saying.

Speaker 3 (26:25):
Well, we're going to do this, We're and at one
point then did they did they announce that they'd all
been saved at one point? Yeah, which to be it
was completely wrong, right, you get And that's the mistake
you could never make in our business.

Speaker 2 (26:39):
You just can't do it.

Speaker 3 (26:40):
Just wait, there's certain things you cannot. Everybody wants to
be the first, right well, and they were always going
to be the first. Well that's true if they had
the access. But people panic in those kind of in
those days uh, CNN started with the late seventies, eighties,
when the hasty situation?

Speaker 4 (27:00):
When was the hostage situation? That's when they start doing that.
Oh no, that's Nightline. I'm getting that confused, Ted couple Nightline?
The other guy America held hostage? Who's the guy Wolf
Blitzer did the war?

Speaker 2 (27:11):
What war?

Speaker 4 (27:12):
The after game War? I guess maybe is that when
CNN started.

Speaker 2 (27:16):
CNN started in nineteen eighty eighty.

Speaker 3 (27:18):
Okay, yeah, CNN and ESPN started just about the same time,
and both were given no chance to survive. People said,
what is this twenty four hour sports du That's not
gonna work?

Speaker 2 (27:29):
What are the people crazy?

Speaker 3 (27:31):
They probably worked crazy at the time he had Ted
Turner started CNN and the guy named Bill Rasmus and
started ESPN and then ended up getting.

Speaker 2 (27:41):
Bought out for not all that much money.

Speaker 3 (27:44):
He did not make a good business decision, as I
recall some people don't.

Speaker 7 (27:48):
But anyway, how any good business decisions that I made
in my life, I can't think of anything other than like,
if I hit the right exact of the track, which
is I'll be playing a contest at Mammouth Park today,
So I hope I'm gonna make some good business.

Speaker 3 (28:01):
When we come.

Speaker 4 (28:02):
Since I'm leaving the ten to go to my granddaughter's recital,
I'm gonna do the golf right after the break, and
you want to give me a couple of minutes, I'll
tell you about.

Speaker 1 (28:10):
P V.

Speaker 2 (28:12):
Pine Valley. Y Oh, of course.

Speaker 4 (28:13):
Mike Kurrent got onto Pine Valley last Sunday morning.

Speaker 1 (28:17):
Yo.

Speaker 4 (28:19):
For the third time, Mike, Yeah, but first in about
twenty five years.

Speaker 3 (28:22):
Twenty five times.

Speaker 2 (28:24):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (28:24):
So I'll have a Mike Kerrent Pine Valley thought. After
the break, we'll have Mike Kurrent on that. My thoughts
they should make me a member, That's what my thought is.

Speaker 2 (28:32):
Break. Yeah, they didn't make you a member. By the time.

Speaker 4 (28:34):
If I played that course on a regular basis, I'd
probably give up golf.

Speaker 2 (28:38):
It's that hard.

Speaker 3 (28:40):
It is.

Speaker 2 (28:40):
It just makes no chance.

Speaker 3 (28:42):
I'll explain it. Well, that's fine. We'll get to that
well as I.

Speaker 4 (28:46):
Get to the Phillies, who were just in a disastrous
two games losing streak.

Speaker 3 (28:50):
At the moment, one wonders if I'll ever win another game.

Speaker 4 (28:54):
They better win a couple of games soon because the
fans will just get like they'll be whacked.

Speaker 2 (28:58):
Mike, I don't know.

Speaker 3 (28:59):
If you heard this new last night, but it's out
there that I know, you're gonna be disappointed that Josh
Huff is leaving town.

Speaker 2 (29:06):
Apparently they're going to trade him to the forty nine ers.

Speaker 4 (29:08):
You know where I knew Josh how and again as
if this OT stuff and all that these people follow
like like like it's it's made people like like coming.
But Josh was not at the OTA. Well, no, the
speculation was he's not there because they're you know what,
it didn't work here, Eagles won the Super Bowl.

Speaker 3 (29:28):
I don't care. They're gonna go play with Solo again.
They're gonna pay some of his salary. Yeah, and they're
gonna get a draft choice. But yeah, you know what,
when you make a bad business decision, you know what,
don't make it worse. How he rose works, not everything.

Speaker 4 (29:42):
How how he makes more good decisions than bad. So
he didn't draft Justin Jefferson. And then he said, you
know what, I'm gonna go get a j Brown and
draft Smith.

Speaker 2 (29:52):
That works.

Speaker 3 (29:52):
Okay, that's good works for me. So he got this
guy last.

Speaker 4 (29:56):
Year didn't work out, and he's gone, and the Eagles
had like three other guys that played pretty well.

Speaker 2 (30:01):
And he still gets a ring out of the deal. Absolutely.

Speaker 4 (30:03):
How about that, man, Josh, you didn't even drift for
you didn't even dress for the Super Bowl?

Speaker 2 (30:09):
Did he drive?

Speaker 3 (30:10):
How many holmes did he actually play?

Speaker 5 (30:11):
He played twelve? I want to say he suited up.
I think he had thirteen total tackles on the season.

Speaker 4 (30:17):
He had like one sacker thing right, one sack or
something whatever.

Speaker 3 (30:21):
That's that's like a game for some big players.

Speaker 2 (30:23):
Thirteen.

Speaker 4 (30:24):
And by the way, so Redick's not still on the Jets.
That didn't work out well for them. Yeah, that didn't
work out. Stuff happened. So right, you're listening to sports

Speaker 5 (31:49):
Harper spoke yesterday, given an update on his injury, and
this is what he had to say.

Speaker 6 (31:53):
Still super sore, obviously getting treatment and things like that.
I'm not sure when I'm gonna again. A pretty bad spot.
So yeah, I think just the swelling's gone down, which
is good. But like I said, it's a pretty tough
spot where he got me. So I just want to

(32:13):
be smart about it too.

Speaker 2 (32:16):
Well.

Speaker 3 (32:16):
The last time Bryce Harper got a hit like that,
didn't he end up in the World Series? Didn't he
come back in September? And that sounds right and had
the phenomenal playoffs and hit the home run that sent
him to the World Series?

Speaker 2 (32:29):
Do I have that right?

Speaker 3 (32:30):
In Sandy against the San Diego he messed a lot
of times, so maybe that's an omenal'll sit But yeah,
it doesn't sound like any time soon, may ye?

Speaker 4 (32:38):
I mean, see, if this is going to happen, you
don't want to happen.

Speaker 3 (32:40):
In lead September. A very good point, all right, Mike
karrn Uh? Should we start with Pine Valley?

Speaker 2 (32:45):
Sure?

Speaker 3 (32:46):
So, Mike, Sunday morning was in a foursome mid Pine Valley.
Tell us all about Yeah, I don't want to mention
your friend's name.

Speaker 4 (32:52):
We mentioned it, okay, Doc Doc Bonner, yep, Jim Bonner.

Speaker 2 (32:56):
Jim Bonner.

Speaker 3 (32:57):
And he was great. He was a great host.

Speaker 4 (33:00):
He's three years older than me and hits the ball,
he really hits it good. And so anyway, the whole thing.
We had the total soup afterwards, which was tremendous. But
the thing about Pine Valley is for I had how
kinds mysuff Pebble Beach, and it's where it's got right
in near Clemton State Park. My best my wife's best friend,

(33:23):
lives in the last house.

Speaker 3 (33:24):
Before you hit the gate.

Speaker 4 (33:26):
So let me and they give button, give that. You
got to give your host name and then they let
you show. Marion is unique, marian is marrying Oakmont, Pebble Beach, Augusta.
They're all unique. Pine Valley is unique in a different
kind of way. It's it was the only golf course
of this guy, George Crump built uh. He built it

(33:48):
apparently because they wanted a hard course. There's a story
behind it, and I'm not going to get old d
but anyway, they wanted a hard course.

Speaker 3 (33:56):
It is visually intimidating, like.

Speaker 4 (33:59):
You're you're constantly and you and getting off the T
is not that hard. You can get off the t.
The fairways are pretty wide. It's the second shot off course.
So I get on the first team and I didn't
even warm up. I'm talking with Jim for a half
hour or whatever. I hit this great drive. I just
piped one right around and they have me playing from
these forward tes that apparently you can only use on
Sunday afternoons to name the ransom tes for a former

(34:21):
club president who I guess had trouble playing from them.
No Jim plays. Jim played the sixty two hundreds. The
two kids we played with, I say kids are probably
like twenties. Hit the ball like so far and still
had trouble scoring, because that's kind of got. But you'll
hit a shot and then you'll get up to I
have some pictures and then you look and they're sand everywhere.

(34:44):
There's just sand every and there's force carries everywhere. So
like force carries, like let's say I have let's say
there's nothing on the course where I can run the
ball in the degree I can just hit a line drive.
If they're sand traps there or water are there, getting
that's a forced carriage. I got to hit the ball over.
I don't carry real trouble with it. I don't carry

(35:05):
the ball as far anymore. So for me, if I
hit this one shot, this par three, par five, it
might be the toughest hole on the course, number seven,
and you hit your drive, and then you had this
second shot over sand, and yeah, and I hit this
really good shot and hit the very top of the
bunker and can. I ended up making seven. So I
had three legit pars. Actually too early in the round.

(35:28):
I had another one on a par three on the back.
I had about two or three more where I took
a mulligan, you know, I took a second shot and
I wound up making a par.

Speaker 3 (35:37):
I didn't play that band, and I got tired.

Speaker 2 (35:39):
Do I have a score?

Speaker 4 (35:40):
No, that was I had like three double bogies. You
can figure it out whatever. But again, once you're taking
a couple, I probably broke a hundred, but no, I'm
sure I did. But I took a couple of mulligans.
But anyway, and it's just and by at the end,
I was kind of tired. I don't get tired very
often at the end of the rounds. But you're walking
the course. There's no car.

Speaker 3 (35:58):
Yeah, but I walk every day.

Speaker 2 (36:00):
You had a caddy.

Speaker 4 (36:01):
I had a guy, seventy seven year old guy named Leo,
whose father, apparently in nineteen oh seven, was named after
the other the last Leo Pope who died in like
nineteen oh four. And this guy apparently was a really
good golfer. And he's he's Doc's regular kind of caddy.
So he was with us. But it's just it's one
of those three and four bags and a younger guy

(36:22):
was carrying for the other two guys. You know, I'll
probably never get back. I don't know if I want
to get back there. Like that might have been good.
You're good now.

Speaker 3 (36:30):
Doc says he plays her two times a week about that.
What do we have any idea? What it costs to
be a member at.

Speaker 4 (36:37):
Have no idea? And then they don't want anybody. I
know it's not free. Can I assume it?

Speaker 1 (36:41):
No?

Speaker 4 (36:41):
But the thing is, like I've heard this with Augustin National.
It might not be as much as you think it is.
It's more the prestige of being invited that kind of
you get invited.

Speaker 3 (36:52):
I don't know.

Speaker 2 (36:53):
You got to know somebody to know.

Speaker 3 (36:56):
But they are.

Speaker 4 (36:57):
I think that they have national members, so they have
people that might be in California that could be a member.
Might only come in Deff cabins there on the on
the on the property, so.

Speaker 3 (37:05):
You can nobody lives there.

Speaker 4 (37:08):
There are houses on there, but I don't know if
those Doc was telling me some stories as we as
we went around, like about there used to be a
house here and then the guy died, they donated the
house and now it's a tea and.

Speaker 3 (37:18):
So Pine Valley is considered the number one course in
the UK.

Speaker 4 (37:21):
They started doing rankings I'm gonna guess, like in the
early eighties, and they do it every two years. Goff
died just does it or GoF does it, and Pine
Valley has been number one almost every year.

Speaker 3 (37:32):
There was a year they do it every two years.

Speaker 2 (37:33):
They do it.

Speaker 3 (37:35):
One year Pebble Beach got put number one.

Speaker 4 (37:38):
I don't think the people at Pine Valley, but like
Marion and Oakmont are always like six and seven. So
that kind of gives you an idea. Two weeks at
at Oakmont, which is really it's really good.

Speaker 3 (37:52):
I played that one time.

Speaker 4 (37:54):
And you know, a Gustin Nasal is always up there,
shinnecock Hills is up there, wing Foot is, yeah, the
usual suspects, but Pine Valley is just there's There's a friend.

Speaker 3 (38:05):
Of mine told me a story. I'll pass it on.

Speaker 4 (38:08):
He's playing over the guy, pretty good guy for and
he gets like the seventeenth hole and he's playing pretty
well and he says, you know this, of course really
isn't that far.

Speaker 3 (38:17):
And he's playing he was playing the back time.

Speaker 4 (38:19):
So he's on number eight, which is a short hole,
but I made a double bogey.

Speaker 3 (38:24):
Guy makes a nine a nine.

Speaker 4 (38:26):
He sculled the ball over to green and had to
go back, and then he scolled another one over to
green and then he made like an eight on the
last hole, went to his car.

Speaker 3 (38:35):
Never they never saw him.

Speaker 2 (38:36):
That was it.

Speaker 3 (38:36):
That was it, he was he was gone.

Speaker 4 (38:38):
And there's horror stories like that about Pine Valley, like
you know guy one guy that had the story goes
but it was sure. He was like four under parts
through like six holes, went past the clubhouse, decided to
go in and have a drink.

Speaker 3 (38:52):
Never made it out.

Speaker 2 (38:54):
That was it. That was it.

Speaker 4 (38:55):
That was it, just you know. So he holds the
record for the six hole record for Pine Valley.

Speaker 3 (39:00):
So I went, as I told you, I went there
one time.

Speaker 2 (39:03):
I was there with.

Speaker 3 (39:04):
Jim and you played the ninth the short course. I
was just walking the course with Jim and Butcher it
as a trainer of Aeron Parks, his brother Brian, and
doctor Richardson, who was the surgeon who operated on Barbara
after he was hurt in the freakness.

Speaker 2 (39:19):
And I want.

Speaker 3 (39:22):
To remember is that it's see if I'm right about this,
you could never.

Speaker 2 (39:27):
See like the whole next to you.

Speaker 3 (39:29):
The way it was built, it's all trees.

Speaker 4 (39:32):
You can only basically see one hole at a time,
which is but they're sand everywhere and no rakes because
it's just you kind of play it. At least I
didn't see any I didn't see any caddies. No, maybe
up by the greens there are, but like there's so
much sand throughout the course that you can always be
in sand.

Speaker 3 (39:53):
I think they call it natural areas.

Speaker 4 (39:55):
I'm pretty sure, but yeah, it's just, you know, it's
just one of those things that every golfer probably should
you know, do you know it's like every golfer in
a perfect world get we get to play Augusta once
or or I mean you can play pebble Beach if
you want to play pebble Beach.

Speaker 3 (40:12):
But yeah, it's.

Speaker 4 (40:15):
You know, so you you it was worth your it
was worth everything.

Speaker 3 (40:19):
It was worth.

Speaker 4 (40:20):
And again, like by the time I got through about
the sixteenth or seventeenth, I was little. Yeah, but it's
still you know, but again every shot you're looking at
every shot and you're like, my god, I got to
carry this, like I got to do this. There was
about three times doing around. This is how humbling it
is because it starts playing with your mind. I would have,
let's say, a one hundred and seventy yard shot to

(40:42):
the green. Well for me, that's hard because it means
I got to carry one hundred and sixty yards. So anyway,
Caddy looked at me and goes, Mike, I want you
to hit it about one hundred and I looked at
my said, but I'm one hundred and seventy. He goes, Mike,
if you want to hit it about one hundred, right,
and then that would leave me a shot after that,
which is what he was trying to do. And there
was one or two times where I just said the
hell with it, because I'm only going to be here once.

(41:04):
Let's just and I hit a couple of really good shots.
One whole we're playing, I'll never forget. So I'm I
guess it was my third shot on a par four
just sound right, or that might be anyway, I got
like seventy yards. I hit it, hit a perfect shot,
really good shot, hits in front of green, starts rowing, rolling, rolling,

(41:24):
It hits at the very edge and.

Speaker 3 (41:26):
Just teeters off that's it gone. I got up in
the down. No, no, in the like sand.

Speaker 4 (41:32):
But again, like I couldn't have hit it like any
there was nothing more I could do.

Speaker 3 (41:37):
And I'm watching these kids hit a ball. Oh my god.

Speaker 5 (41:40):
That that's the most humbling thing. Get thirteen year old
kids that you know aren't stronger than you, but they
hit it a mile.

Speaker 4 (41:47):
Twenty Yeah, these were like maybe twenty three twenty. I
don't know how old they were. They were nice kids.
We talked a lot. I mean when I say hit
it a mile, I mean hit it a mile.

Speaker 5 (42:00):
But again, I'll tell you what, guys, I was. I
was just at the truest couple of weeks ago. Fantastic
what what of course that was the cricket Club. That
perfect for what we were. You know, to be there
because you stop at a T box, you're watching Rory,
you look to the left, you're you see big names
on the green next to you is perfect. But it
was really cool to meet a lot of people in

(42:21):
the golf community and we had an opportunity to be
on the range. There were a few girls, few women
that were just driving the ball like I wish I could.

Speaker 2 (42:30):
It was unbelievable. To see them just the way that
they were swinging.

Speaker 4 (42:33):
You can learn more watching a woman because the men
just there in another strike.

Speaker 2 (42:39):
This girl. Look this girl up, Claire Hogle.

Speaker 5 (42:42):
She's one of those up and coming you know, influence
or whatever, but she can play well.

Speaker 4 (42:47):
They shot the shop right this this week is in
Atlantic City.

Speaker 2 (42:50):
Yep, I watched it, and you're exactly right, Mike.

Speaker 5 (42:53):
You know, you can learn a lot because they just
you know, at the end of the day, they're not
stronger than you, but they hit it three hundred you know,
our hundred yards passed your ball real quick. On this one,
I ended up meeting a guy who is doing some
big things with the world of golf, like uh, you know, Netflix,
Full Swing whatever. He played Marion and then the next

(43:14):
day played Pine Valley.

Speaker 4 (43:16):
And the US Women's Open, by the way, is this week.
And I looked in the leaderboard. I didn't recognize anybody,
but again that might be more of a toutament of.

Speaker 2 (43:26):
Chad Mole, I believe is his name. He is.

Speaker 5 (43:29):
He's like the director for this Full Swing Netflix. He's
a big name in the golf world. And Harry Mays
and yeah, Harry was Yeah, Harry's Harry's big into golf.

Speaker 2 (43:39):
We know that.

Speaker 5 (43:42):
She's got a beautiful swing and she's very, very good looking.

Speaker 2 (43:45):
But I promise you this, the swing is unbelievable.

Speaker 4 (43:50):
The time that I played showing that the one time
I played Pine Valley, I played it twice. I played
Pine Valley Marrion in the same week consecutive days.

Speaker 9 (44:00):
Wow.

Speaker 4 (44:01):
And one time at a British Open, I played Saint
Andrews in carn Newsport back to back days good and
that was where I could play. You know I could,
I could. You know, well, there are public courses. I
mean you could just pay and go go play to him.
It wasn't still you're checking the boxes.

Speaker 3 (44:15):
That's a I've checked boxes.

Speaker 2 (44:18):
I actually get that.

Speaker 3 (44:20):
Do we want to do to him? We got We've
got a couple mens before you're at it and then
sewn and I will take over from here. Memorial Tournament
Jack Nicholas's tournament outside Columbi Village. We're halfway through. A
lot of the big names are playing because it's Jack Nicholas,
some aren't. Rory's not.

Speaker 4 (44:39):
But what do we got? Well, we got and we
need a select. We got the US Open in two weeks.
They switched it this year. The memorial I think used
to be the week before. But okay, you got Nick,
Taylor and Griffin. Why can't Ben Griffin I believe who
won last week? Yes, are tied to seven on them.
He wanted these in first again, somebody's got these guys

(45:00):
do that.

Speaker 2 (45:01):
And he's been playing well. I mean he played.

Speaker 4 (45:03):
He won that tournament New Orleans with another guy where
you have a partner up and that.

Speaker 3 (45:08):
Was his first win. Last week was his first individual win.

Speaker 4 (45:11):
So then we got my guy Patilla two back.

Speaker 3 (45:16):
He's going to win one of these times. Does he
want a tournament, Yes he has, but is the lefty.

Speaker 4 (45:21):
But the guy you care about, Scottie is three back
and he's a defending champ. He successfully defended about three
weeks ago at Houston. I think it was then you
got Sam Burns got you got three interesting guys. Shane
Lowry's three, so it's one and back of shuffler speak
is three.

Speaker 2 (45:41):
And shaw Flee's two. Is this course this hard?

Speaker 3 (45:44):
That these guys are only minus seven? It's not an
easy course.

Speaker 2 (45:47):
This is not the normal peaching.

Speaker 3 (45:50):
They could take a major to this course if they
wanted to.

Speaker 4 (45:54):
And you got more cow also to So if you
want Scotty your plus one seventy five, which you know,
given the state of Scotty, when I can't do that,
you know, I'm not You could take Griffin, who's but
that he's only four to one. I don't like that either.
I would lean a couple different way one is. But
Tilla just because he's ten to one, Yeah, that's that's

(46:16):
the because he's ten to one and we've I've taken
him a couple of times and he's come close. I
think he finished second a couple of weeks ago. But yeah,
sure too. Lowry hasn't won a long we saw a
couple of weeks ago. He lost a real tough one
at Truest when he could have.

Speaker 3 (46:30):
Wanted to write in contention sixteen to one on Shane sixteen.

Speaker 4 (46:33):
Which isn't been, and Shortley is fourteen to one. I'm
not sure that anybody's going to beat Scotty. If Scotty
decides it's.

Speaker 2 (46:41):
My turn again, well it's always his turn. Well here's
here's what we're doing.

Speaker 3 (46:44):
What are we doing? We're taking sixteen to one and
ten to one. Okay, but Tilla and Lowry, that's fine,
We're going to take both of them because either one hits,
that's fine. We're betting like ten thousand on each one.
So you know, you go into the sports, you.

Speaker 2 (46:59):
Can take our money.

Speaker 4 (46:59):
I think Scotty to finish the top finishing the top five.
I think Scotty was minus fifty five hundred.

Speaker 3 (47:08):
I guess will be five hundred.

Speaker 2 (47:09):
Not good.

Speaker 4 (47:10):
You can't do that, can you. I mean, he's probably
going to finish in the top five.

Speaker 3 (47:14):
You can, but something have a larger bank roll than
we'll pretent we're hold.

Speaker 4 (47:17):
But it's even worth it when you have like a
big bank roll like that, like OKC is you're sayings
minus seven.

Speaker 3 (47:23):
Seven seven seven, right, bet bet seven seven to one.

Speaker 4 (47:26):
And I would say to you, I don't think anybody's
going to bet beat OKAC.

Speaker 2 (47:30):
But that's but if they do, you're taking one way
to hit.

Speaker 3 (47:33):
My betting theory on that has always been very simple.
It's like the old guys that can we call them
at the racetrack and call them bridge jumpers. They come
there's some horse that can't lose that they bet them
the show. All's gotta do is finish first, second or third.
And the reason they call him bridge jumpers is because
if the horse runs more than fourth, they want to
jump off a bridge. What do you do with a track?

Speaker 4 (47:51):
If you really like Secretary it's running at Belmont or whatever,
and he's you know, one the four only way if
the jockeys, do you bet that or do you look
for something to either pair with or do.

Speaker 3 (48:03):
I bet the exact I'll try to find if there's
going to be a second. But you're not betting one
to two shots like right, I mean almost never. I'll
tell you one time I would have done it, but
I just didn't get to it. So people will bet
you'll get you get five percent on your money. It's auto,
it's guaranteed you get two dollars and ten cents. So
there are people that will bet one hundred thousand to

(48:25):
win five thousand. My theory is very simple. If you
have one hundred, what the hell do you need five for?
You know, it's stupid, it's a dun't bet.

Speaker 2 (48:34):
Don't do it.

Speaker 3 (48:34):
You could put it in the bank for a sec
It's just insane and people have gone they've lost lots
of money. That's what they call bridge jumper. So it's
the only time I was prepared to do that and
then then well we'll get you out here in a
couple of minutes. And I do have one other question
for your golf question Breeders Cup flight Line. I remember

(48:54):
flight Line, legendary modern horse, one of the greatest of
the twenty first cent tree is in the final race.
He can't lose again unless the jockey falls off. And
I'm playing this contest where the object is to get
you start with seventy five hundred, the object to get
over one hundred thousand and then and then you can

(49:16):
there's prize money. There's three hundred thousand in prize money.
That's one of the incentives. So I was trying all day,
two days to get to one hundred, which probably wasn't
going to be enough to win. I was going to
take the hundred and bet it all on flight Line,
and it turned out he was forty four cents on
the dollar. So you're basically getting forty four percent back
on your one hundred, but in reality you weren't. Because

(49:39):
there was a three hundred thousand dollars first prize. You
were getting like six to one on flight Line. You
were getting that kind of money. It's not on the
poker players. What are you getting for the money you're
putting in? So I and the guy that won the
contest did exactly that. I just never got up to
the number. The big factor. I ended up having to
play trifecta'sn't exactly doesn't And what sent is Terry de Belmont.
I want to say it was two to fives. Now

(50:02):
I think it was less than that. It was only
a five horse feed, that's right. And the horse sham
who had been second in the first two, finished last.

Speaker 2 (50:09):
You'd have enough. He didn't want them because people.

Speaker 3 (50:11):
Were betting the ticket just to have a ticket.

Speaker 2 (50:13):
Correct. It's correct. Yeah, that's definite. All right.

Speaker 3 (50:15):
So golf questions you might before you get out of
here and go to the concert, Eric, what you recital recital?
Tiger Woods, Jack Nicholas. It's a debate that's been going
on forever. One one eighteen majors, Tigers were fifteen. He's
not gonna win any more, baring some miracle that we
don't anticipate. Is there a way to say which was

(50:37):
the better golfer?

Speaker 4 (50:39):
No, because you're always going to have It's like Lebron, Lebron, Michael,
you know you're gonna have your Michael argue. I would
argue Michael had the great greatest decade. Lebron's had the
greatest twenty one years. Now, whatever you want, so I
would say Nicholas. Nicholas had a twenty five year career,
well basically a twenty year career because the last Masters

(50:59):
was kind of happened. But let's say eighteen, he went
from sixty two to Okay, Tiger had the decade like
if you just take his ten years from ninety seven
to two thousand and eight and the the.

Speaker 2 (51:13):
Like the media are going.

Speaker 4 (51:15):
Across the sky to meter the same. If you want
to tell me Jack, that's fine. If you want to
tell me Tiger, that's fine. I got no problem with it.

Speaker 2 (51:26):
It's you know, I.

Speaker 4 (51:28):
Still think Tiger's greatest accomplishment.

Speaker 3 (51:31):
That's funny. His son just won his first Junior Tagers
this week.

Speaker 4 (51:36):
Was winning I believe it was sixth straight or five
straight US Amateur championships. He won the Junior Amateur either
two or three times. I'm not I'm gonna get it wrong.
And then he won the Amateur three times. You can't
have a bad day.

Speaker 2 (51:52):
That's a match plus.

Speaker 4 (51:53):
And he came his last two the one where you
and I were watch Scott the guy from fift He
was like six seven down and he came back and won.
And to me, that's the great It's because he couldn't
have one bad day or the other guy could just
have a great day.

Speaker 2 (52:09):
Sure. Yeah.

Speaker 3 (52:09):
Now to go back in time and I don't I'm
not sure what year this would have been like, but
he was playing Sawgrass his first US amateur Oh the wedge.
That's the one where I called you and I said,
I don't know who the hell this guy is, but.

Speaker 4 (52:23):
Look at seventeenth all. Yeah, I was watching I've never
heard of I said this this gid. He was like,
what seventeen at the time. Some way he's in short said,
I mean, they've showed the tape of it a million times.

Speaker 2 (52:34):
He makes this.

Speaker 3 (52:35):
He had the big hat on. Yeah, yeah, yeah, he
took a wedge.

Speaker 4 (52:38):
Yeah, like ninety thirty years ago, ninety four, ninety nineteen,
ninety ninety five, Yeah, ninety four he won, ninety four,
five and six, he'd beat Buddy Marouci to one. You're
up in Rhode Island. The local, great, great local play.
I would say this one thing that I think when
when you're looking at stuff. Jack played against better players,
and that that's no knock on Tiger.

Speaker 3 (53:00):
Tiger might have killed Shirt those guys.

Speaker 4 (53:01):
But I mean, he played against Pi, he was the
guy that took Palmer and and that's why people hated him.
Then he played against Watson, he played against Player, he
played against Trevino. I'm probably missing a couple of guys
in there. But again, that's just the circumstances of when
you play. It's not you know, it doesn't mean that
the Tiger would have won all those majors. Sure, and

(53:22):
I still think if Tiger doesn't get hurt, I think
Tiger's at twenty twenty one, twenty two something like that,
both of them at the prime. Manjus kind been fun
to say, right, Oh, let you know it's the Michael Lebron, Yes,
and I understand both sides of the equation.

Speaker 2 (53:40):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (53:40):
And my theory, and I know I said this to you, Mike,
was that in that decade period, Tiger Woods was better
at what he did than anybody has ever been at anything.

Speaker 2 (53:52):
Well, that's that's how I looked at it.

Speaker 4 (53:54):
It was invincible in a sport where you can't win
all the time because of the nature eleven majors and
in one in one span he won seven of them.

Speaker 3 (54:02):
Had and held held all four of them at the
same time, and.

Speaker 4 (54:05):
Almost was on the furge of doing it again, you know,
and again. But Nicholas had like moments.

Speaker 2 (54:12):
Wednesday, the US opened by fifteen fifteen.

Speaker 4 (54:15):
He holds the record I believe, in all four majors
for largest margin.

Speaker 3 (54:20):
He holds it in the PGA, he holds it in
the British Open. Is almost a secretary, that's real. He
is secretariat. Holds the time record in all three triple
crowd rights.

Speaker 4 (54:29):
And there was a time fifty two years when you
knew before the two I mean it's easy for us
to say now we knew, but you did. I mean
fourteen straight majors where he led after the third round
that was tied at the end of the third round.
Fourteen and zero, right, Mike number yeh, that's ridiculous. Mike
Current gone, Thanks Mike always nice saloons. Yeah, Sean and

Speaker 4 (56:42):
Gambler, Sean, let's talk a little Phillies.

Speaker 3 (56:45):
You had to cut on earlier from Bryce Harper where
Bryce said that he's quite a ways away from playing again,
still a lot of pain after the hit by pitch
the other day. From Stryder. Did they give it even
a timetable at this point or two BD?

Speaker 2 (57:01):
Term you had TBD and then you heard what he said.

Speaker 5 (57:04):
He just said it's sore and in look at the
end of the day, comes back to playing one sixty
two right, no.

Speaker 3 (57:08):
Rush, yep, yeah, exactly, get ready for the playoffs. Phillies
today four oh five fs one against the Brewers Phillies
minus one eighty two Milwaukee plus one fifty five at
bet Parks. He's this, Lozardo has been awesome ye five
and zero two fifteen era seventy seven strikeouts, sixteen walks.

(57:30):
He's going up against Chad Patrick for Milwaukee fifty one strikeouts,
eighteen walks, two and four record. But in the era
of two ninety seven. Your thoughts sean on the Phillies
and specifically Lozardo, who has been like the pickup of
the year.

Speaker 2 (57:46):
Yeah, he has been.

Speaker 5 (57:47):
And when all Phillies fans were, you know, screaming that
they didn't do anything in the offseason, here he comes
out of nowhere and this pitching staff has just been
tremendous and it continues. Well, look if Painter comes up eventually,
I know that, and spoke about that. He didn't expect
him to be up before you all start breaking. Why
would you need him at this point in time. But
they have an embarrassment of riches right now with the
starting rotation, and it's been a long time since we'd

(58:10):
be able to say that, going back to the four
aces days. But Lazardo today you have to like him
going up against this Brew Crew team. I know we
were joking Dick by saying the people are panicking losing
two straight, But in that clubhouse, I'm sure there is
a little bit more to this game, right, Like they
want to get back on the winning side, especially losing
at home.

Speaker 2 (58:29):
But we'll see again.

Speaker 5 (58:31):
You know, this is a brew Crew team that I
think is a little bit better than the record has
shown a little bit like the Braves as well.

Speaker 2 (58:37):
But you gotta like the Phillies with Lazardo at home today.

Speaker 3 (58:40):
Yeah, I don't even mind laying in this spot giving
out good the pitcher's been and you're right, the team
is going to want to win their own national TV
today for the correct context here Now, this time last week,
the Phillies had the best record in baseball. Now Detroit does,
but not by a long thirty eight to twenty. Phillies
are thirty six and twenty one. Than that's the Cubs

(59:01):
and the Dodgers are all thirty five and twenty two,
and the Yankees are thirty five and twenty one. So yeah,
it's all about just getting in a position. It's interesting, Sean.
As good as the Phillies have been, certainly lately really good.
They're only game ahead of the Mets. Yeah, and the
division does matter, right, you can play one less playoff
round that. This looks like it could go into September.

(59:23):
I mean, is there any reason to think this isn't
going to go for quite a long time. These two
teams look pretty eagerly batter and and Dick.

Speaker 5 (59:30):
I know from the from the standpoint of the Division,
I don't think we can put the Braves in that conversation.
But I looked at their schedule, you know, yesterday coming
up here at the end of June, and they get
the Rockies and then they get you know, a couple
of the other teams like the Marlins that the Phillies
were able to beat up on during that stretch. So
I'm not pouring dirt on that Braves team just because

(59:51):
of the names that they were rolling into that Batter's box.

Speaker 2 (59:55):
I was like, oh, I was quickly reminded how good
they are. But I agree with you.

Speaker 5 (59:59):
Look from the matt they've been playing, it seems like
they have something going up there. I'm not going to
refer to them as lucky anymore. They they got a
really good culture going right.

Speaker 3 (01:00:08):
Now, and it's been almost like full full year's worth
of good bestball run the last four months of last
year at.

Speaker 5 (01:00:14):
So they have good bats, quality bats to get the
timely hit, something that's played the Phillies in the last
year or so. But you have to believe that with
the pitching and oh, by the way, if the injuries
don't happen to the Phillies as we're dealing with Bryce
Harper right now, that they will win this division.

Speaker 2 (01:00:30):
But it's not going to be easy come September. No,
not at all.

Speaker 3 (01:00:33):
And it's speaking of the Mets, I mean at bet
Parks today they are home against the Rockies minus four
thirty five. See that's a number you just don't see
it baseball.

Speaker 5 (01:00:42):
It's incredible how bad the Rockies really are. It's just
it really is. At like twenty five twenty six games,
they're on pace to win this year.

Speaker 3 (01:00:50):
It's like, it's how can I mean, how can anybody
We could say that about the White Sox last year?

Speaker 2 (01:00:55):
Yeah, how can any team be that bad?

Speaker 3 (01:00:58):
I mean, baseball, the worst teams win one out of
three and they're not even coming close to that. And
what is what is their record at them? Oh my god?
Nine and forty eight.

Speaker 5 (01:01:10):
So they And the best part about that one, Dick,
is they had eight wins for those three games against
the Phillies. They didn't win a game when the Phillies
went out there, and then the next night they got
their ninth win by beating the Yankees.

Speaker 2 (01:01:21):
Yeah, now they've lost six in a row, so they've
been favored. I think I saw something the other day.

Speaker 5 (01:01:26):
They were favored in four games dating back to the
last two seasons.

Speaker 2 (01:01:30):
I want to say something like that.

Speaker 5 (01:01:32):
It's everything that you could imagine is ridiculous about that record.

Speaker 2 (01:01:36):
Yeah, it's as true as it gets.

Speaker 1 (01:01:38):
There.

Speaker 3 (01:01:38):
And I've not been to a game of that park,
but I've been right next to it. I've been at
Denver many times, and it looks like a beautiful place. Obviously,
Colorado's one of the most beautiful states we have in
the country.

Speaker 2 (01:01:49):
I mean, who's people are still going to this?

Speaker 5 (01:01:51):
Well, it's opposing fans that are filling up the ballpark. Now,
true story, Dick. It's hysterical that you brought this up.
So I've told this story a couple of weeks ago,
and the Phillies were out there, and so I went
out to Colorado with my wife that at that time girlfriend,
and we went out and you.

Speaker 2 (01:02:07):
Know, like you said, it was just absolutely gorgeous.

Speaker 5 (01:02:10):
And I'm obviously diehard sports fans, so I said, hey,
and the Rockies were in first place.

Speaker 2 (01:02:15):
They were taking on the Padres.

Speaker 5 (01:02:16):
It was a June game and they were out in
San Diego and there's this bar and it's similar to
Xfinity Live with the distance to the stadium down at
the Citizens Bank Park and there's a bar right next
to where the Rockies played coors Field and TVs everywhere,
Dick first place team, they didn't have the Rockies on.

Speaker 2 (01:02:39):
I had to literally as a.

Speaker 5 (01:02:41):
Guy from Philadelphia, asked them to put the Rockies on.

Speaker 2 (01:02:44):
And the ballpark is literally in their backyard.

Speaker 5 (01:02:47):
Yeah, they're not the biggest fans when it comes to
baseball out there. But it's a shame because that team
did spend money. They went out and spent money on
the wrong players like Chris Bryant. They had some good
pitching in the farms that they had expectations for hasn't
panned out. You just would like to see and like,
you know, why not throw the Rockies a bone.

Speaker 2 (01:03:07):
You'd like to see them be good. But they're not
exactly that. That's for sure nine and forty eight.

Speaker 4 (01:03:14):
So let's say that's fifty seven games, so they're more
they're a thirty. You're right, they're on pace to win
like twenty seven games.

Speaker 2 (01:03:21):
It's insane how bad they are. I mean twenty what.

Speaker 3 (01:03:28):
Yeah, that really should not be possible.

Speaker 2 (01:03:29):
All right.

Speaker 3 (01:03:29):
A couple of basketball parlay bets for tonight game six
Indiana Pacers minus four over the news Sean, how about
this one Indiana on the money line over fifty four
and a half. These are all at bet parks over
fifty four and a half points in the first quarter
and McHale bridges over three and a half rebounds plus

(01:03:53):
three thirty. I love and you know what people that
are and I would not recommend this. I would just
recommend taking a side. But look, I'm not going to
tell you not to go to bed.

Speaker 2 (01:04:02):
Parks because I'm spots.

Speaker 3 (01:04:04):
We love people to go to bed parks.

Speaker 4 (01:04:05):
But people love to bet these things.

Speaker 3 (01:04:08):
And they're very hard for a reason. Over fifty four
and a half in the first quarter. That's so basically
you're talking what twenty twenty eight to eight, twenty eight,
twenty seven on doing Indiana to win the game. They
are the favorite. They're minus one eighty two and McHale
bridges over five and over three and a half rebounds.
He's not a high volume rebounder. Your thoughts getting you

(01:04:32):
get three thirty plus three thirty three to one.

Speaker 2 (01:04:34):
Well, I'll start with the total. I definitely like that.

Speaker 5 (01:04:38):
I know that there's some people out there believing that
we're gonna see some defense, and that's why the number
was down just to tick here at two nineteen at
bet Parks. As far as the game total is concerned,
I don't buy that these two teams, especially when you
get out there in Indiana. I think we're gonna see
a much better performance from guys like Haliburt and Siakam.
We both struggled in that game five in the Garden.

(01:04:58):
I think we're gonna see a lot of points scored.
Again in that game four in Indiana, I think they
hit two fifty one after results said it done to
fifty one. Uh so give me the over on everything.
I don't believe we're gonna see a lick of defense played.
Ye and I like Indiana though, because this is you
can't go back to the Garden for games get the

(01:05:18):
job done.

Speaker 3 (01:05:19):
That would have done all the heats on you, because
if you blow a three to one lead and saw
anybody's gonna talk about and it would not be a
good situation for them at all.

Speaker 5 (01:05:27):
Those Knicks fans, though, they are believing right now, that's
for sure.

Speaker 3 (01:05:31):
I mean, look, they played great the other night. It
looked to me in watching the game that Rick Carlisle
waved the white flag fairly early on the theory that
he's just gonna put that, gonna put everything into game.

Speaker 4 (01:05:46):
Sex.

Speaker 5 (01:05:46):
Well, it's funny you say that because I have a
Rick Carlisle sound that caught my attention. This was after
the game, and why he feels like they ended up
losing that game.

Speaker 4 (01:05:55):
Well, to start the game, we just didn't have the
right level of force, the right level of attitude necessary,
you know, in this environment.

Speaker 2 (01:06:03):
And so you know it was it was a bad start.
We never had a lead in the game.

Speaker 5 (01:06:07):
Yeah, they didn't lead at all in that game from
start to finish. And I think, like you said, Carlisle
saw that said you know what, let's wave the white
flag onto the next one.

Speaker 2 (01:06:15):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:06:15):
These veteran coaches that have been around and been in
a zillion playoff games, and obviously Rick won the title
with Dallas. They get a sense of what's happening early,
and then they just said, look, we are going to
be favored on Saturday night. It's our crowd, it's our moment.
And what am I going to send all of my

(01:06:36):
guys out here on a feudal exercise where we're about
ninety five percent going to lose? Anyway? Why not just
hold everything back for Saturday. But of course when you
do that, you better wear the day.

Speaker 2 (01:06:48):
Get that's true exactly, that you better be right about
what you're thinking.

Speaker 3 (01:06:52):
But it made sense to me as I was watching it,
and we'll see about tonight. So here's the other one.
This is eight to one. Uh, this is a fascinating part. Like,
so the Knicks on the money line, I gotta win
the game, all right, Towns over twenty two and a
half points brunts and over six and a half assists

(01:07:13):
and first half total over one oh nine point five.
So basically you got to get to one ten, which
is fifty five to fifty five or sixty to fifty
or whatever the number you might be. That's that's eight
to one to me. The bigger number the number that
I would be most concerned about would be Brunts and
six and a half is says not that he doesn't
pass the ball, but somebody's got to finish the play.

(01:07:34):
Have so much want on one with the Knicks, between
Towns and bruntson himself. Your thoughts on that partly eight
to one? If you like the Knicks to win, do
you really want to go and take a shot at
this thing?

Speaker 1 (01:07:46):
Yeah?

Speaker 5 (01:07:46):
That's that's the tough one where it's like, Okay, if
you think the Knicks are going to win, why you know,
dance with the devil with everything else. I think you're
calling your shot just with that suggestion right there. But
when it comes to Towns, he played his butt off
in that previous game.

Speaker 2 (01:08:00):
I don't expect that to change.

Speaker 5 (01:08:02):
I think we know who the Knicks are right by now,
we know who they are, what their strings are.

Speaker 2 (01:08:07):
And then the Brunton assist is interesting.

Speaker 5 (01:08:09):
You know, this guy has just been incredible to watch Defensively.
If you're the Pacers, you know you have to try
and get the ball out of his hands. It's difficult
to do so I'm I could ride with you in
the assists that to get five in the previous game.
I think we throw that game out because of how
it played out. Like we were just talking about, but
five assists last game, he can get to that number
tonight too.

Speaker 2 (01:08:30):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:08:30):
The question is can can Josh Hart make enough open
jump shots and bridges, because those are going to be
the guys that are gonna get the ball from from
Brunton when they run a second player at him. I
didn't Again, That's why I'm wondering what the Pacers were
up to the other night. I didn't really understand a
lot of the things they were doing the other night.
It just seemed counterintuitive, like why and I mentioned at

(01:08:50):
the top of the show, why are you not double
in Towns because he never passes ever? Yeah, if he has,
I haven't seen it. When he when he puts his
head down and he's dry, he's not giving it all.
So you know, where's the second defender? And I don't
know whether you should be that fearful of the Knicks
three point shooting that you're you don't want to run

(01:09:10):
a second guy at him and leave somebody open. I'm
more than happy to let some of their shooters try
to shoot a wide open shot.

Speaker 2 (01:09:17):
Totally agree.

Speaker 5 (01:09:18):
Yeah, it was very intriguing and what they did on
defensive side, and like you said, I think the game
got away from him and everything, you know, just kind
of blew up in their face really fast. Towns played great.
I want to give all the credit in the world
to the Knicks, but I think a lot had to
do with how poorly the Pacers played more than anything.

Speaker 2 (01:09:34):
And that's my big point too.

Speaker 5 (01:09:36):
Dick, forgive me if I already said it, but you
had Pascal Sia can play a terrible game. Yeah, Tyrese Halliburn,
who's been the player of well SGA, the second best
player in the playoffs, start to finish, and he played
his worst game.

Speaker 2 (01:09:49):
So I just I don't.

Speaker 5 (01:09:51):
Think the combination of all that is going to happen
again tonight.

Speaker 2 (01:09:54):
So I like the Pacers.

Speaker 3 (01:09:55):
Seems very seems very unlikely. I think they're the right side.
I saw this at two and a half the the day.
Now it's at four.

Speaker 2 (01:10:01):
So the money is coming in on.

Speaker 3 (01:10:03):
The Pacers because I mean they these are two Pacers
are an elite offensive team and the next frankly are
not far behind. Neither one of them is very good
on defense, which is ultimately going to be the problem
in the next series because the other team that they're
going to play is elite at both ends.

Speaker 2 (01:10:19):
How about numbers.

Speaker 5 (01:10:22):
It's insane that how much they're favorite. And I get
it when you look at their opponent, you start there.
But we are putting the Oklahoma City Thunder into the
conversation of like Shack and Grobe. Yeah, the greatest teams
of all time with these numbers.

Speaker 3 (01:10:39):
I remember the Shaq Kobe Sixers final. They were ten
to one favorite. You got ten to one on the
Sixers if you wanted to get through. And that was
the Lakers team that had I believe they had run
the table correct. They won every playoff game. The Sixers
got them in game one and then that was the end.

Speaker 2 (01:10:58):
Just give us that sliver of hope one time. And
in game two, technically Shot had a couple of shots.
I mean what came down.

Speaker 3 (01:11:05):
I mean I covered that series with for the paper,
a bunch of us out there. But the difference in
the series was the three point shooting. The Lakers made
him and the six Ers didn't. That Sixer doesn't even
try because Larry Brown never liked the three point shot.
Larry Brad, you'll love this show and Larry Brown had
the greatest line. It wasn't in this series, but it
was in another one. A couple of years later, they
played New Orleans, UH, and I was actually covering the derby,

(01:11:27):
but I was the closest one on the staff not
named Phil Jazzner to New Orleans. They said, go to
game I don't know this game water game two. So
Friday night and UH, Sixers win the game, and I'm
in the locker room afterwards, and Larry post to me
says this, man, I wish this was the NCAA tournament.
And that's exactly the case with the Lakers at Game one.

Speaker 2 (01:11:49):
That's hysterical.

Speaker 3 (01:11:50):
Give me, give me the NCAA tournament. You move it
automatically into the next round. So let's say it is
the Pacers.

Speaker 2 (01:11:57):
They do win.

Speaker 3 (01:11:58):
The NBA Finals start Thursday in Oklahoma City. I'm trying
to rem I don't know that this has ever happened
in the history of the league. To have a team
it was certainly well thought of coming into the year,
but it's not like Oklahoma City was the favorite to
win the NBA title.

Speaker 2 (01:12:14):
Win the season.

Speaker 3 (01:12:14):
Started to have a team this dominant in every way,
and then finishing off. I thought it was a pretty
good Minnesota team crushing Memphis in the earlier round, and
good series with Denver all the way to Game seven.
A team that's come this far, this fast, where they're
thought of as almost unbeatable.

Speaker 2 (01:12:35):
Do you ever remember that in this league?

Speaker 5 (01:12:38):
Not really, because the expectations that they are living up
to it's just incredible. You know, you always feel like
everybody thought that the Boston Hutterers were going to be
in the finals, right, there's always yeah, there's always that
slip up.

Speaker 2 (01:12:50):
And I know that they were.

Speaker 5 (01:12:52):
Pushed to Game seven against Denver Nuggets, and I think
that was probably the worst case scenario for everybody in
the league or every you know, people that are the
teams that were left in the West, and of course
who's going to face him in the East because that
woke them up. But they are so good from from
top to bottom. Sga is just a superstar. You have
great rim protection as far as with chet Holmgren, and

(01:13:14):
then of course the Isaiah Hart signed, who signed a
free agent. That's what plagued them last year is they
were dominated on the boards, and of course Caruso coming
into that was a great trade. They have just gotten
everything right and it's showing right now just the way
that they are beating down these teams.

Speaker 2 (01:13:31):
The Timberwolves, look, that's.

Speaker 5 (01:13:32):
A good squad, and they were, and they won the
one game I think that was a game that the
Oklhom City Thunder were waving a white flag.

Speaker 2 (01:13:40):
They lost by forty.

Speaker 5 (01:13:41):
But other than that, the t Wolves weren't competing very
much so in this series.

Speaker 3 (01:13:45):
And the one that put them over the top was
Game four when both teams played great in Minnesota. Yeah,
and Oklahoma said they had to make every correct play
for I don't know, twenty the last twenty minutes of
the game, and they did.

Speaker 5 (01:13:58):
Ok see, you know, they were talked about a lot
of people that in this world, Dick as far as
the Sports gamely Committee had okay, see, you know, better
team understood.

Speaker 2 (01:14:08):
But they have lived up to the hype and then some.

Speaker 5 (01:14:11):
And it's funny because I believe, if I'm not mistaken,
they had a nineteen game lead on Minnesota throughout the
course of the regular season.

Speaker 2 (01:14:19):
Who they faced in the Western Conference Finals.

Speaker 3 (01:14:21):
Yeah, in matchups are everything. Like last year in the
Western Finals, Dallas was the perfect or excuse me, in
the Western Semifinals. Dallas was the perfect matchup for Oklahoma
City at that point, Shawn. And to your point, Oklahoma
City just wasn't big enough, and that was Dallas. Their
front court was murderous. And then they did the same
thing to Minnesota because they just it was a front

(01:14:43):
court situation. Theirs was just better than Minnesota. It's why
I was so sure that Boston was going to crush Dallas,
because their front court guys were not going to have
to come out away from the basket, yep and cover
guys that they weren't going to be comfortable covering. And
it was a mismatch as it turned out. But that's
the genius of the people running show at Oklahoma City.
They said, art here's what we're lacking. We have a

(01:15:05):
a lot of really good young talent, but what we
don't have is a guy, a really good perimeter defender,
and they went out and got Caruso is as good
as anybody, and artistein just a guy who helps you
win games by doing all the little things, offensive rebounds,
not doing stupid stuff, not committing and if Towns commits

(01:15:26):
like any more stupid fun tonight, I'm gonna go. He
loves to do it, and I love that stan Van
Gundy calls him on it every time he did.

Speaker 5 (01:15:33):
You see did you see post game when Charlotte Chuck
brought it up to him, but he.

Speaker 2 (01:15:40):
Oh, it was fantastic.

Speaker 5 (01:15:41):
He say, hey man, you gotta stop causing those stupid fouls.
And Karl Anthony Towns like, yeah, you're right, and Shaq
was like, yeah, exactly what I was gonna say. You
can't do that, and they were killing him for it
right there on live television.

Speaker 2 (01:15:54):
It was pretty funny. Well he deserves it.

Speaker 3 (01:15:55):
I mean the one where he just decided, I think
I'll just push this guy at the foul. I work
like everybody will see it from the top.

Speaker 2 (01:16:01):
Row, the tired legs right a little bit.

Speaker 3 (01:16:04):
Yeah, I get it, but just fall down, you do something,
they try to draw a charge.

Speaker 2 (01:16:09):
Just what are you doing? Isn't it great?

Speaker 5 (01:16:12):
Just with these Seven Games series though, That's what I
loved because when they go back and forth and then
you got to change and then obviously these two teams,
maybe not so much with the Pacers and Knicks, but
and I'm sure you could speak about some of those
UH series from back in the day where there was
true hate for each other's teams.

Speaker 4 (01:16:28):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:16:29):
Yeah, and then we got to get and the Pacers
in the next room. They're at that stage. Although it's
interesting with the money that these guys make today, there.

Speaker 2 (01:16:37):
Are more friends than they're used to me. Let's put
let's put it that way.

Speaker 3 (01:16:41):
Yeah, back in the day, they were making I mean,
they were making good money, but they weren't making this
kind of money where they just Winning's fine, but guess
what if we don't win, We're still getting paid.

Speaker 2 (01:16:51):
But Doctor j and Bird were hanging out after the games.

Speaker 1 (01:16:55):
You know.

Speaker 3 (01:16:56):
Again, they made good money for the time, but not
not fifty million a year or twenty five million a
year or whatever some of these guys at the top
ends are making in the NBA now, which is where
the money goes. Fewer players, and it's not like football.
They can't cut you. They can't. Actually, we'll get to
the break with this football note. How upset are you

(01:17:19):
that Josh Houff is not going to be Are you
gonna get be able to get over this?

Speaker 5 (01:17:23):
It's funny because Bryce and Josh basically had the same
career with the Eagles.

Speaker 2 (01:17:27):
But yes, Bryce, oh you are right, Yes, no, you're
good no.

Speaker 5 (01:17:32):
You know, it's funny because he had a great season
with the Jets. He did and how he saw the
vision they wanted to get. Somebody remembered two seasons ago
that was the big issue. Well, there was multiple issues
for the East, but they couldn't get to the quarterback
and Huff had the stats. So I was fine with
the signing. But immediately, you know, and I'm not a
guy X is an O guy breaking down film like

(01:17:54):
Baldy or anything like that. But you're watching these one
on ones and he's getting thrown around and then all
of a sudden he's not playing, and then he's not
registering tackles when he's in there.

Speaker 2 (01:18:04):
It's like, all right, what's going on?

Speaker 5 (01:18:06):
I was surprised, Dick, when I looked up yesterday his
numbers that he played in as many games as he did.

Speaker 3 (01:18:11):
Yeah, me too, when you said he played at twelve
the other break, I was shocked because I never noticed
him on the field.

Speaker 2 (01:18:17):
What number was.

Speaker 9 (01:18:18):
That's a great question. I never knew, great tribunate. I
don't even know his first name. Come on, that is good,
That is good right there? Tell us you all you
need to know? Who is Josh Hoff?

Speaker 5 (01:18:31):
Joshuff was a receiver that Chip Kelly drafted. I forget
where he was out of and I think josh got
didn't he. I don't you know what? That might be
a great pull by you, and I want to say
he might have had some legal issues.

Speaker 2 (01:18:48):
If I'm not mistaken, I could be mistaken of it.
Out of Oregon. You nailed it, Dick, you nailed.

Speaker 3 (01:18:56):
It's a Bryce Off, not Joshaff is leaving. Joshoff is
already been gone from. Yeah, so it does. It's not
it's not been actually finalized yet. But the deal they're
saying is going to happen. He's going to San Francisco
be reunited with Robert Solo, was his coach with the Jets,
who's now the DC in San Francisco. And uh, the
Eagles will get a mid round draft pick.

Speaker 2 (01:19:18):
And some money. They want to have to pay him
all the money, just a lot of the money.

Speaker 5 (01:19:22):
Yeah, it's how we just don't even pick up the
phone and his name's on the caller. ID I get it.
You want to reunite him with Sala out there that's
where he had success. But I'm not buying it. I
just think that he doesn't have what it takes to
compete anymore. But we'll see, because there's definitely been players
that have registered nothing and then went back reunited and
had success.

Speaker 2 (01:19:42):
And I do want to put this out there. Yes,
he did have legal trouble.

Speaker 5 (01:19:46):
He got pulled over on the Walt Whitman, That's what happened,
for speeding and then he had a possession and X
y Z yes.

Speaker 2 (01:19:53):
Did they was that it was his career over at
that point.

Speaker 5 (01:19:55):
He went, He went with the Tampa Bay Bucks. They
traded him after it, and I don't think he played
much after that.

Speaker 3 (01:20:01):
Yeah, Chip Kelly Man, those who can forget those days.
He was going to revolutionize the game. It lasted for
like a revolutionise the sport. It lasted for like three games, right, yeah,
and that was it.

Speaker 5 (01:20:12):
You know, like I always, Chip couldn't help himself. He
definitely got things wrong. But it was interesting when he
came in here he went ten and six, ten and six,
right and then and you know what, And I want
to give him credit because I thought that he wouldn't
his ego would play in and he would not last,
but here he has. He went to u c. L A,
goes to Ohio State, wins a national championship. I don't

(01:20:34):
even think I heard much about him last year. Yeah,
he was pretty quiet, right, And now he's with the Raiders.

Speaker 2 (01:20:40):
Yep.

Speaker 3 (01:20:41):
He went back with his college quarterback Ryan Day at
New Hampshire and they won the championship together. And uh yeah,
now he's back in the where is he in the pros?

Speaker 5 (01:20:51):
He's with the Raiders because he was talking about dealing
with gent now the running back out of Boise State.

Speaker 3 (01:20:59):
Chip Kelly. So yeah, he was interesting character, that's right.
Oh yeah, I had to tell Dick. He had to
tell he would scratch the back of his neck when
he would lie.

Speaker 2 (01:21:08):
Yeah, which was often lie as it turned out.

Speaker 3 (01:21:12):
He would say somewhat somewhat in the vicinity of the truth,
but wouldn't quite all the way to get there. A
final break Final twenty five minutes coming up after the break.

Bryce said that he's quite a ways a while from
playing again, still a lot of pain after the hit
by Pits the other day from Stryder, did does they
give it even a timetable at this point or it
is just two VD term.

Speaker 2 (01:23:10):
He had TBD and then you heard what he said.

Speaker 5 (01:23:13):
He just said it's sore and in look at the
end of the day, comes back to playing one sixty
two right, no rush.

Speaker 2 (01:23:18):
Yep, yeah, exactly. Get ready for the playoffs.

Speaker 3 (01:23:21):
Phillies today four oh five fs one against the Brewers
Phillies minus one eighty two Milwaukee plus one fifty five
at Bete Parks. He's this Lozardo has been awesome five
and zero two fifteen era seventy seven strikeouts, sixteen walks.
He's going up against Chad Patrick for Milwaukee fifty one strikeouts,

(01:23:45):
eighteen walks, two and four record, but in the era
of two ninety seven. Your thoughts, Sean on the Phillies
and specifically Lozardo, who's been like the pickup of the year.

Speaker 2 (01:23:55):
Yeah, he has been.

Speaker 5 (01:23:56):
And when all Phillies fans were, you know, screaming that
they didn't do think in the offseason, here he comes
out of nowhere and this pitching staff has just been
tremendous and it continues. Well, look if Painter comes up eventually.
I know that Thompson spoke about that. He didn't expect
him to be up before you all start breaking. Why
would you need him at this point in time. But
they have an embarrassment of riches right now with the
starting rotation, and it's been a long time since we'd

(01:24:19):
be able to say that, going back to the four
aces days. But Lazardo today you have to like him
going up against this brew Crew team. I know we
were joking Dick by saying the people are panicking losing
two straight, but in that clubhouse, I'm sure there is
a little bit more to this game, right like they
want to get back on the winning side, especially losing
at home.

Speaker 2 (01:24:38):
But we'll see again.

Speaker 5 (01:24:40):
You know, this is a brew Crew team that I
think is a little bit better than the record has
shown a little bit like the Braves as well.

Speaker 2 (01:24:46):
But you gotta like the Phillies with Lizardo at home today.

Speaker 3 (01:24:49):
Yeah, I don't even mind laying in this spot giving
out good the pitcher's been and you're right, the team
is going to want to win their own national TV
today for the correct context here now time last week,
the Phillies had to being judge against the rematch of
the World Series. The fact that baseball, unfortunately on a
national level, is probably less popular than it's been in years,

(01:25:14):
at least by the numbers, by the TV numbers. Maybe
I'm missing something you told me if I am Sean,
I don't think I am. But the fact that we
have these two great players playing at the same time,
like legends of the game, Shorefire Hall of Famers, gonna
put up numbers that are going to be among the
best in baseball history by the time they're finished. For
guy like you, don't you know it doesn't go back

(01:25:34):
as far as I do, and seeing some of the
great from back of the day, to see these two
guys in this era, what is that like for a
guy like you?

Speaker 5 (01:25:41):
Yeah, look, you know when it comes to watching Judge,
I made the mistake a couple of seasons ago because
at Jans as a matter of fact, we were talking
about unicorns and I was like, Shoe Haes a unicorn,
and he was saying Judge was too. I was wrong
because he plays an incredible outfield as well. But you're
right because, like you know, just throwing one a comparison

(01:26:04):
out out of my head right now is Sosa McGuire.
We shut everything down for Sosa and McGuire. Why are
we not doing that now for a rematch of the
World Series. I get it it's being played in LA,
but I feel like it wouldn't be any different. I
was played in the Bronx. Like it should stop everything
in sports. The focals should be on Judge versus Otani,

(01:26:24):
bar Nunn.

Speaker 3 (01:26:25):
Yeah, and Aaron Judge. I think it was Humar nineteen
last night. He's hitting three ninety two.

Speaker 2 (01:26:31):
What yeah? I mean this worked.

Speaker 4 (01:26:33):
We're through two months a third of the season.

Speaker 5 (01:26:35):
He do you just pull up these numbers and what
he's been able to do over these last few seasons
and what he's on pace to do. He's on pace
to have a better year this year than he did
last year, which is incredible. He's minus, I want to say,
heading into last night he was minus six thousand at
bet Parks to win the AL MVP.

Speaker 1 (01:26:55):
Yeah.

Speaker 3 (01:26:56):
One of the cool things about when Sean played the
tape of the home runs last night, the call from
the Mets call was from my buddy Dave Simms, Philly guy,
one of the all time great guys. Anybody around Philly
knows Dave, who was the most recently the Mariners broadcaster.

Speaker 2 (01:27:11):
This year, it's his first year we have Philly guys.
Oh yeah, I did not know that absolutely. Oh yeah,
that's one of the all time good guys. I've known
Dave forever.

Speaker 3 (01:27:20):
But yeah, the fact that he's he actually lived in
New York for even while he was doing Seattle. I
mean he was out there during the baseball season. But yeah,
the fact that he got a Texas him after he
got the Yankees job, he was obviously very he took
over for John Sterling. Yeah, there forever and ever and ever.

Speaker 4 (01:27:37):
And I knew I knew John Sterling in Baltimore, where
he was one of the first guys I ever heard
Sean dus sports talk when I was growing up there.
Really Yeah, and then I don't know how how many
years he broadcast.

Speaker 2 (01:27:50):
The Yanks forever.

Speaker 3 (01:27:51):
Yeah, all right, Sean, it's that time. It's about twenty
minutes ago in the show. We'll see if we can
survive to get to the finish line. So you mentioned
to me off air before we came on that there's
this kind of revisionist history now now that Oklahoma City
and they've done it twice now that they got to

(01:28:11):
the finals with the Harden Durant squads, Westbrook squads. Back
in the day they lost to Miami and Lebron and
Dwayne Wade and that crowd, and now they're doing it again.
Sam Presty's the architect, and there are people around these
parts saying, if the other Sam had had a chance

(01:28:32):
to go all the way to the finish line, this
would have happened in Philadelphia.

Speaker 2 (01:28:37):
I'm a skeptic, and I know you are too. When
you're hearing that, what do you think it's funny, Dick?
Because they did.

Speaker 5 (01:28:45):
I was like, all right, let me pull some stuff
up from Dick Girardi back in the day. And I
wasn't aiming for anything sixers. I was just looking for
some earlier stuff. And then one of the first things
that popped up was an article that you wrote back
in twenty sixteen about Sam Hanky and in a local
blog took it didn't.

Speaker 2 (01:29:02):
Really believe in.

Speaker 5 (01:29:04):
Yeah, they weren't happy, but guess who was right after
was all said and done here in twenty twenty five.
Nice worked by you on that one. You know, at
the point, Dick, it really rubbed me the wrong way.
I always understood it didn't take a genius to realize
that was one of the things that irked me, is
like we made Sam Hanky to be like this evil
genius and oh, he's got all these bright ideas, Like

(01:29:26):
it wasn't you know anything that we weren't really able
to understand, to comprehend. Okay, they're tanking, you want to
get a higher draft pick, and it resulted in a
guy in Joel Embiid and it resulted in a guy
like Ben Simmons and I'm with you, I got it.
But man, as a diehard Sixers fan, those were the
worst three seasons of my life.

Speaker 2 (01:29:45):
Like losing on purpose hurt me.

Speaker 5 (01:29:47):
And I didn't spend money, I didn't go to a game,
I didn't watch them play, and in those days it
hit me a little bit different versus this year, where
I didn't watch just because I got so much going
on in my life. I'm like, I'm not gonna you know,
you can call me a fair weather fan this year.
That's fine. With the Sixers, I don't care. But back
in those days with Sam Hanky, look, I understood it,

(01:30:08):
and as I said, it resulted in a guy like
Jowell Embiid. And I think if Ben Simmons doesn't turn
into you know, the head case that he turned into,
I think they might end up getting to an Eastern
Conference finals or an NBA finals, or even have a
better chance at winning it all. But I think there's
a thing called karma that really does come into play
with those sort of things. Yeah, apparently it did with them, Yes,

(01:30:30):
and we've been snake bitten since.

Speaker 3 (01:30:32):
Yeah, it was a fascinating time in town to go
back with Sam got here when like a decade ago.
I'm kind of losing track of time.

Speaker 2 (01:30:40):
Oh man, it was like, yeah, it was twenty twelve
ish even further back.

Speaker 3 (01:30:45):
Yeah, Doug Collins had retired and then they needed a
new They were just basically got to start over. And
his first move where he waited months and then he
hired Brett Brown twenty thirteen yep, okay, so over a decade,
and I remember were when I remember this vividly because
we used to we did a thing and that's probably
one of those where we would do one or there

(01:31:08):
were days where we would do these four or five
hundred word during the day columns. We did that for
a while. Different people would do them, and and at
the beginning I was willing to listen and hear what
was going on, but I knew some people in the
organization who were telling me some stuff behind the scenes
that was happening back there.

Speaker 2 (01:31:26):
And nobody said.

Speaker 3 (01:31:27):
Sam Mickey was a bad guy, and I don't. I
don't think anybody has to this day. But there became
this cult status with him, like that he was going
to revolutionize the game, and this was the guy. And
there were a lot of people in town that jumped
on the bandwagon.

Speaker 2 (01:31:41):
And that's fine.

Speaker 3 (01:31:41):
Everybody's got an opinion. Sometimes they're gonna be right, sometimes
you're gonna be wrong. That's all. That's the thing people
love about Philadelphia sports. Everybody has an opinion. And I
remember thinking to myself and said, all right, if this
is such a great idea, And I might have been
written in this in the story you were looking at.
There was a great friend of mine, Roxy Roxborough, who

(01:32:03):
ran Las Vegas Sports.

Speaker 5 (01:32:04):
What you know Roxy very well. What I just met
Roxy two years ago. He gave me a pen, Dick,
He gave me a pen. May the odds be with you.

Speaker 2 (01:32:13):
Lights up many days at the racetrack. He's in the
Hall of Fame out there. That's great.

Speaker 3 (01:32:19):
And his main lieutenant back with Las Vegas Sports Consultant
was a guy named Toni Sinisi from Altuna. It's Penn State,
Altuna Grad. Another great guy. He was a guy that
did all his college sports. And I spent a week
shown in two thousand and five Roxy had sold the
company with the people at Las Vegas Sports Consultants. They
were at that time making the.

Speaker 4 (01:32:40):
Line for every sport, for every race book in Nevada,
and I got to sit in and see how they
did it and wrote a story for the paper.

Speaker 3 (01:32:49):
It was absolutely fascinating. But the reason I brought up
Roxy in this context, he told me there was a
there was a place in Nevada.

Speaker 2 (01:32:58):
Got him think of it this second.

Speaker 3 (01:33:00):
But it was a new race book and they said
we're gonna we're gonna have fixed odds meaning we're gonna
give you an odd I don't care what the horse.
Horse can end up going off at two to one,
We're gonna give you twenty to one. And we think
you're so stupid because you're a racetrack person, that you
don't know anything, that we're just gonna take all your

(01:33:21):
money and you're gonna lose. Well, if, as Rochie said
to me at the time, he says, if this was
such a good idea, why wouldn't somebody have thought of
it before? Well, it turned out to be such a
bad idea because there's a lot of trust me and
I know a lot of them, there's a lot of
sharp people at racetracks. And when you have, let's say,
a first time starter at Monmouth Park and they're putting

(01:33:44):
them up at twenty to one in Nevada, who do
you think is going to know more about this horse?
The people around Monmouth Park or some guys sitting in
a race book in Nevada.

Speaker 2 (01:33:52):
Yep, they got wiped out, totally wiped out.

Speaker 3 (01:33:57):
In a couple of months, they had to close the place.

Speaker 2 (01:33:59):
They got shelled.

Speaker 4 (01:34:01):
So the analogy I used where Sam Mickey was if
this was such a great idea.

Speaker 3 (01:34:08):
Why hadn't somebody thought of it before? And I barred
the line from Roxy, gave him credit the story. And
I remember thinking at the time, and I wrote, it
was all right, you're you're basing everything on ping pong
balls going your way. In addition to that, you're basing
it on you then making correct draft picks and having

(01:34:31):
the year that you have these great draft picks, have
a transcendent player.

Speaker 2 (01:34:36):
And as it turned out.

Speaker 3 (01:34:37):
It only happened once in all those times, and I'm
not counting Simmons, he turned out to not be what
they were hoping for. They got one and then beat
and that was by mistake. The only reason they got
him is because he was hurt.

Speaker 2 (01:34:48):
That's true, because Wiggans would have been the guy correct.

Speaker 4 (01:34:51):
It turned out to be a totally and were they
unlucky at times?

Speaker 2 (01:34:56):
Of course?

Speaker 3 (01:34:57):
Did they make some hideous picks? Obviously Hanky made some
of them. Joel Oka four would be the most obvious one.

Speaker 2 (01:35:05):
Oh that there wasn't.

Speaker 3 (01:35:06):
I don't remember that. I don't remember who else was
even in that draft? Was that the Travy Giannis was in?

Speaker 2 (01:35:11):
Oh, that's a good question that.

Speaker 3 (01:35:13):
Anybody knew he was going to be this good. I
mean picked up in the middle of the first one.

Speaker 5 (01:35:16):
But you remember who was it in that district? You
had Oka for you had D'Angel Russell.

Speaker 3 (01:35:21):
Was it like a big name in that Well, yeah
it wasn't.

Speaker 2 (01:35:24):
Perzingis was the next pick.

Speaker 3 (01:35:25):
He went to the next Yeah it's been it's not
a good career, but it's been injured half of it.
But at the time, and again I think I was
definitely in the minority in the city. Sure, I just
said I don't see this working. And and at the
further it went along when there was no direction and
remember Okapo had that problem thank Thanksgiving in Boston. It

(01:35:46):
was just nobody in charge. Brett Brown had obviously had
no chance. They didn't want him to do well. They
wanted them to not succeed. And and I called it
and my new story you called up. I called it
a basketball posi scheme. That's what it reminded me of. Right,
it was always about, well, this is going to happen
down the road, right, in other words, you're gonna get
all this money you're investing now that we're actually not investing,

(01:36:09):
and you're gonna get it all back. And I got
to it was fat that for one kind. I think
I got like five hundred comments at the bottom of
that one. It was one of the ones I had
the most ever and emails. I mean, all the crazies
came out, which was fun. That's why they invented the
delete button, so it was all good. I never got
upset about any of that stuff. But it was a

(01:36:30):
fascinating time in this town. And here we are, what
a dozen more than a dozen years later, and they're
in this kind of no man's land where they're going
to get a high draft pick, assuming they hold onto
the pick, and they have an EMBD. We don't know
what his status is ever, and it's truly a shame,
because he's a phenomenal talent, right, just one of the

(01:36:54):
most skilled big man in history. I put him up
there with like a Lazran and Abdul Jabbar just for
strict best skeotball skills. And it just looks like it's
going to end badly. I wonder, I wonder what a
lot of the people that are saying, First of all,
how could you even say that you know what would
have happened if Hanky stay anyway to know that not at.

Speaker 5 (01:37:16):
All, you know, he was here for three seasons tops.
I think that was it, and you know, just the
guessing that went into it. And it's like, even if
you're going to give him all the right moves, would
that still amount to building a championship contender. I want
to give Sam the credit. Also, I would say, how
come he's never gotten another job?

Speaker 2 (01:37:36):
Yeah?

Speaker 4 (01:37:36):
Point Yeah, it's almost like he got blackballed. I feel
kind of.

Speaker 3 (01:37:40):
Bad for him because I only even met him once
he came on our TV show. He seemed like a
very nice, nice guy, an easy guy to talk to.
But one of the things my people had told me
that worked in the organization was he shut out all
of his scouts. Yeah, he basically didn't want to hear
from him. It was like he had all the answers. Well,
nobody's got all the answers. It's too hard.

Speaker 5 (01:38:00):
It's like Billy bean Ish, right, you know, like when
the lot put me in the room and with all
the numbers, and you know, it's funny too, Dick, because
I ranted about this a couple of months ago. And
maybe it's not hitting just now because they just got
knocked out, But remember we hit this panic button or
whatever button the tank button you want to say, because
of the fact that guys like Igodala and Drew Holliday.

Speaker 2 (01:38:22):
Weren't good enough.

Speaker 5 (01:38:23):
Oh, by the way, Drew Holliday just won a championship
last year, still playing at a high level right considered
one of the best defenders in the game. Inky Steph
Curry came out and because they just retired his number
in Golden State, yep and and Steph Curry said on
that night that they would never win on the Run
without Andrea Gadala yep and and Oh, by the way,

(01:38:44):
Josh Harris runs the Commanders, you know, like the things
that have happened to this franchise, he just can't make up.

Speaker 2 (01:38:51):
It's unbelievable.

Speaker 3 (01:38:52):
Yeah, it's I think Holliday was the very first move
he traded him for with the rights to like Neurlans Noel,
Do I have that right?

Speaker 2 (01:39:00):
Because that sounds about It does sound because Michael Carter Williams,
who well, by the way, just fought last night Box.
How did he do? He won? That's great? Yea I
saw I saw a story by Cordy Jog of the year. Yes,
he played well, he played well.

Speaker 5 (01:39:16):
I was a big fan of mcw and nerlans know,
well in that first job, like, okay, I like these guys,
you know, and and they weren't good enough.

Speaker 3 (01:39:23):
No, as it turned out, they weren't good enough, but yeah,
the hat and they didn't want a guy like Drew
Holliday because they didn't want a point guard that would
do the right things correct. It was literally part of
the process.

Speaker 4 (01:39:33):
Was to get rid of guys that can help you
win games, which is kind of counterintuitive, so ridiculous, but
that was.

Speaker 3 (01:39:40):
The whole theory there, and I never liked it. And
because there is some karma involved. And also as you're
first of all, you're giving the coach no chance, and
Brett Brown will never get you'll never get another head
coaching job. I mean, I was surprised a little surprised
that he didn't get the head coaching job at San Antonio.
He's on the staff. But maybe he just said not
I never want to do this, which I wouldn't blame

(01:40:02):
them for.

Speaker 2 (01:40:04):
But you have guys.

Speaker 3 (01:40:05):
Now you're drafting these young guys, and you're telling them,
all right, we're gonna lose, and you're gonna find a
way through this, and and at some point we're gonna snap.

Speaker 2 (01:40:13):
Our fingers and we're gonna go all right, now, you're
gonna wine.

Speaker 5 (01:40:16):
Doesn't work that way, and you're rewarding guys like Joelle
Embiid for losing yep. And I just you know, as
great as Jojo was and Ben Simmons, like that has
to be part of the deal. That went wrong with
Ben Simmons is you gave him that contract without making
him earn a thing.

Speaker 2 (01:40:34):
Yep. And and I.

Speaker 5 (01:40:36):
Just think that those have some ramifications down the line
that are going to poison you. And like you said,
you know, you don't want good players around and uh,
coaches are gonna be hired to be or hired to
be fired.

Speaker 2 (01:40:47):
So just an ugly time.

Speaker 5 (01:40:49):
And it didn't amount to an Eastern Conference final trip
and a bunch of second round exits and.

Speaker 2 (01:40:54):
Here we are now, Dick. I do like some of
the pieces on this team.

Speaker 5 (01:40:57):
I do like the guards, but it starts and ends
with Jojo and you can't depend on him.

Speaker 2 (01:41:03):
No, you can. That's it again.

Speaker 3 (01:41:06):
I'm hoping his career is not an end. I really
would love to see him.

Speaker 2 (01:41:10):
I have an.

Speaker 3 (01:41:10):
Opportunity to show on the biggest stage how great he is.

Speaker 2 (01:41:15):
But I'm not at all certain that's kind. We've seen
big men deal with these type of injuries and.

Speaker 4 (01:41:21):
It doesn't get How does it get better now as
you get older?

Speaker 2 (01:41:24):
Yeah, I don't see that. And Paul George is thirty
five years old. People, Yeah, and he's up there. But yeah,
it was fascinating.

Speaker 3 (01:41:33):
I saw the same thing you did this week with
people saying, hey, look Sam Presty, I if Pinky had
been given the same opportunity, it will be one of
those questions that lingers in the city. But to me,
the answer is fairly.

Speaker 5 (01:41:45):
I know, yeah, it wasn't gonna Also, last thing I'll
say is Presty remember had a ton to work with
over the years. You know, great players like Russell Hardened,
you know Durant so the capital that he got back
with those players was much different than what's them he can.

Speaker 3 (01:42:02):
I mean, look, Paul George is a turnout of his
the other day was fascinating. If the Pacers went tonight,
he's going to be the reason both teams are unbelievable.

Speaker 5 (01:42:11):
So maybe the six that's the key to the Sixers winning.
Just trade ball towards The problem is now nobody wants
nobody wants.

Speaker 3 (01:42:20):
The Pacers traded it for a bunch of Oklahoma City
for a bunch of guys that turned in guys to
the air Stars for them now, and then Oklahoma City
obviously got Yesterdy and.

Speaker 2 (01:42:29):
The crew from from the Clippers for Paul George.

Speaker 4 (01:42:32):
So yeah, Paul George will never make the finals, but
he'll be a major factor.

Speaker 2 (01:42:38):
And Oklahoma City at the Paul George Finals.

Speaker 3 (01:42:40):
Maybe maybe ABC should bring him in as a commentator
for the finals.

Speaker 2 (01:42:45):
It would be fun.

Speaker 5 (01:42:45):
I mean, he's doing the podcast and all that, right,
I think that that's a nice play. Somebody should be
on the call for him. Done a bad play by you,
Dick on that one. I like that, Like where your
mind's at.

Speaker 2 (01:42:55):
The Paul George NBA Finals? I mean, what what could
possibly be better?

Speaker 3 (01:43:00):
So anyway, Game six tonight, Thank Sean and I both
have the Pacers. I will be rooting for the next Obviously,
I'd love to see the Villanova guys get a shot
at the finals.

Speaker 2 (01:43:09):
Uh and I hope one day.

Speaker 3 (01:43:11):
I just just think player for player a little more
offense with with Indiana.

Speaker 2 (01:43:18):
But ye, who knows.

Speaker 3 (01:43:19):
Every time I think I've understood something in these NBA playoffs.

Speaker 2 (01:43:22):
I've been wrong, so I don't.

Speaker 5 (01:43:24):
Have I basically have no clue what's going on. If
they go out today and play their game. I know
it's cliche, but if they do where they're running, playing
with Jews, shooting at three pointers and and shooting. Yeah,
like the one game they lost, they made five to
three pointers, five for twenty five.

Speaker 2 (01:43:38):
So anything better than that. I don't see Indiana losing tonight. Yeah,
it seems unlikely.

Speaker 3 (01:43:43):
They just they have a little more than the next half.
That's just that's just the fact the facts, and we
shall see. It'd be fun tonight. Champions League this afternoon,
Phillies this afternoon. NBA Eastern Conference Final game six tonight,
So a lot of good action for everybody.

Speaker 2 (01:43:57):
