Speaker 4 (01:04):
I just got a text.
Speaker 3 (01:06):
It says call me Wow Free Wow, Mike Karn Wow Sean.
Give him a call. I think he's in the Netherlands.
Maybe just let us know when he's on the phone.
John Kyle, how are you boys.
Speaker 5 (01:19):
I'm not in the Netherlands, so I can only be
as good as you know as I am here.
Speaker 6 (01:25):
But well, pretty good knowing that the Phillies at first
in the National League. Geese now and we have it's
finally NBA Draft week as well.
Speaker 4 (01:32):
Yep one Wednesday, the NBA Draft.
Speaker 5 (01:34):
Yes, the long wait is over to see how the
Sixers will botch this draft.
Speaker 6 (01:38):
Welcome to Philly, Ace Bailey. Yes, we love a head case.
Speaker 4 (01:42):
Yes, yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:42):
So the Phillies have the third best record in baseball,
detroited forty eight and twenty nine, Dodgers forty seven and thirty,
Phillies forty six and thirty. And last night they pulverized
the Mets. It was too too late, and all of
a sudden it wasn't it was tended to final.
Speaker 4 (01:57):
Mets have lost seven in a row. Change in a hurry.
Speaker 3 (02:02):
As I said, I just made a little bet here
at bet Parks at when the Orioles to win the
American League at one fifty and a little bit at
two point fifty, to win at all they started the season,
I mean nineteen and thirty six. They were brutal, but
everybody was hurt. They've won fourteen of their last twenty.
They beat the Yankees last night. They have, in my opinion,
(02:25):
the best set up closer in baseball with Cano and Bautista,
and now their guys are starting to get healthy. If
they're starting pitchers, get back the young pitchers. They're six
games out of the walk guard. Anyway, it'll be some
fun for us to track the rest of the way.
To me, the only team to really beat.
Speaker 4 (02:45):
Kurrent is on easy. Where are you? I don't know,
he's not in beautiful Ben Salem. I'll tell you that.
Speaker 2 (02:56):
Hey. First of all, let me apologize about last week.
I was in a bus on Yeah, I know, I
felt bad.
Speaker 4 (03:04):
I don't know I'm gonna hold that against you. Nobody
was here. I wasn't even here. What happened, doesn't Where
was she? He was with you? I was like, just
hang up on them, let's go hang out. So where
is my current today?
Speaker 2 (03:21):
I am in Amsterdam, all right?
Speaker 4 (03:23):
So, yes, are you in the red light district?
Speaker 1 (03:29):
No?
Speaker 2 (03:30):
But I passed a couple of coffee shops, which doesn't
mean coffee.
Speaker 5 (03:34):
Okay, And when you pass them, you mean you stopped
in for a bit, or you actually passed them.
Speaker 2 (03:41):
I was with my wife and our friends who were
so but.
Speaker 4 (03:46):
You know, both marked them for later.
Speaker 2 (03:48):
I got you, well, you could kind of you kind
of walk by, and you know, you walk by a
pastry place and you get the smell. Well, you kind
of walk by that and you get the smell. It's
kind of the same principle.
Speaker 3 (03:58):
Anything about that for the pe I haven't been to
the Amsterdam red light district. You walk by, there's a
picture window, at least there was the last time I
was there, and there's some women in there, and they
waved to you, and you decide if you want to
go in, and if they're not available, the curtain closes.
Speaker 4 (04:14):
That was my memory of it. I don't know, Mike,
I don't know how much it's changed.
Speaker 2 (04:17):
I how do you know I won't be in the
picture window.
Speaker 3 (04:22):
There.
Speaker 4 (04:22):
I don't think the whatever close under those there it is.
Speaker 3 (04:27):
But nevertheless, so where have you been so far? And
when are you coming out?
Speaker 2 (04:31):
Well, we it's been almost two weeks. We're getting home Monday.
Speaker 5 (04:37):
We are.
Speaker 2 (04:37):
And we started in Switzerland, which actually was pretty cool
because I had no idea where we were going, what
we were doing. I was just kind of long for
the ride, right in the check and it was cool.
We were up in the Apps, you know the matter
horn that I mean, we went up, man, we were
like nine thousand feet up, walked across across this catwalk.
(04:59):
Are you could be afraid of heights? I guess I'm
not afraid of heights anymore. And then we took the
Rhine River cruise up from the Rhine and got off
Today that's where it leftists in Amsterdam, and then we're
doing today and tomorrow and then I'm coming home and going.
Speaker 4 (05:15):
To McDonald Little Germany, Mike, on the way up.
Speaker 2 (05:18):
A lot of a lot of Germany, a little France.
You'll appreciate this though, guys being the first and I am.
When we were in Cologne they had a McDonald's and
they had five guys, but I you know, I took
pictures of it. But yeah. So they had a McDonald's
in Amsterdam. And I was walking back from the museum
and I said, you know what I'm going to? So
(05:41):
I got a Hamburger McDonald's in Amsterdam.
Speaker 4 (05:46):
What what what museum were you in? Mike?
Speaker 2 (05:50):
We're going it's apparently it's the nicest museum they have here.
It's it's like this, all these paintings that are worth
like a trillion dollars. You know, I'm so misplaced in this.
But that's okay. We're going tomorrow. I think it's called Then.
It's a short name that begins with an end. And
then we're going to the End Frank House in the afternoon.
(06:11):
But you're only in there for about I think fifteen
or twenty minutes. It's pretty quick. They get you in.
There's a Van Go. I could go and see, you know,
Van Go, there's a Heineken experience. It's all up in
the air.
Speaker 6 (06:24):
But you know, I always like to know when you
when you talk about food, any any cuisines, any good
cuisines outside of the other than the McDonald's.
Speaker 2 (06:33):
Yeah, I'm going to tell you something. I only did
the McDonald's as a prank to myself, but and it
tastes it like a McDonald's at home. So I ate
on this river cruise and even in Switzerland we ate
like nobody's business. I'm just going to tell you the
food was outstanding. It just was, you know, And of
(06:57):
course I partok.
Speaker 3 (06:59):
Sir, I'm Mark, are you going to the reich Museum
tomorrow is at your spot for the museum.
Speaker 2 (07:07):
It's right near the Vangu Museum. The Vang Museum in
this museum are like about a block or two apart. Yeah,
that might that might be the one we're going to.
Yeah a huge Oh yeah you got yeah. I know
all those guys Man Brandt.
Speaker 4 (07:23):
You know, from the all from the northeast, right.
Speaker 2 (07:28):
Father, father, Judge and Saint Saint Matt. Saint Matt's all right,
let's get hey women, women, Can I have a rant
from over here?
Speaker 7 (07:39):
Absolute international rant now because I've been trying to you know,
you pay attention as much as you can, and you
know Internet's a wonderful thing when it works, and so
you can keep up.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
I just got to answer you guys a question. So
I got to actually, but I'll start what is up
with Shor Sanders? Like you know, you went through the
whole thing with the draft and people were questioning you
and then okay, now I'm going to prove myself. I'm
going to go out, you know, I'm going to be
the first Cleveland Browns person thirty years to be good
or whatever? Can you do this twice in two weeks?
(08:17):
And I mean so now I'm starting to believe the
things that they were saying about. And you know, you
wonder why the guy dropped and calls himself. Now, look,
he might make all the money off, he might play great,
he might beat her quarterback, he might get that two
hundred and fifty million dollar contract in four years. But man,
this isn't you know? And if you did it once,
(08:38):
I say, okay, But he did it two weeks ago,
like dude, No, no, no, no, no, no, no.
Speaker 4 (08:47):
That's what It's just strange.
Speaker 2 (08:48):
You haven't heard from him, have you.
Speaker 4 (08:50):
Yeah, I had some physical problems. I know that he's
been kind of I know that.
Speaker 2 (08:54):
No, but I know that, and I'll give Diane every
every break because it's not him, it's his son. But
when when he wanted to tell you this, the door
wasn't a bad guy, he came right out and said
it didn't he like right away, And this doesn't This
doesn't mean he's a bad guy. It just means he's
using some really horrible judgment.
Speaker 3 (09:13):
Correct, Yes, what's some bad decisions? So the one was
one hundred and something, what was the other? Speeding took
a fs like.
Speaker 2 (09:19):
Ninety some yeah, well ninety and sixty five. See what
your door has to do.
Speaker 3 (09:26):
Yeah, if you're unless you're on an F one or NASCAR,
we got problems.
Speaker 4 (09:30):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (09:31):
And what your door has to do is come over
to the autobomb and they'll let him do that. Come
right over. I got another rant. This is a mini one.
You know, we've been waiting Rory mack Rory mackelroy, who
was one of my favorite I love Rory, right, we
all do.
Speaker 8 (09:48):
So.
Speaker 2 (09:48):
Two months ago he wins the Masters, It's like, hey,
Rory's the greatest guy in the face of the earth.
He owns guy.
Speaker 4 (09:54):
Yep.
Speaker 2 (09:54):
Two months later, like he comes out and says that
he's sick and media. He's sick, and that's fine. You
can be sick of the media. And I think some
of this goes back to that driver thing at the
PGA where it got leaked. But I think some of
this is just that he's had to be the face
of the PGA tour for like three years and he
thinks he got sold and that that's all well and good.
(10:15):
But why would you in two months go from that
worry to this worry. I just don't understand it.
Speaker 6 (10:23):
Well, you would think all the pressure is off now
he got the grit like he got it finally, and
then all of a sudden he just has completely lost
his mind.
Speaker 4 (10:30):
It's bizarre.
Speaker 2 (10:31):
I don't know what. I don't know all the circumstances
of what happened at the PGA, but what I'm what
I think I understand is somebody leaked it to the
press and he was upset with that, as he should be.
But things get leaked all the time. This is what happens.
You kind of handle it better than that. You know,
he wasn't the only guy. The British Open is coming
(10:53):
up next month at his home course, yep, and there's
gonna be a lot of pressure on him. You missed
the cut, but when it was there in twenty nineteen,
Shane Lowry won. Another Irish guy, but my god, Rory.
Rory was the most universally liked Goffler and he was
bigger than Scheffler. I mean, Sheffler was better, but Rory
was the best, like goffer And now you're look at
(11:14):
him and you're just like yo, man like so, I
don't know, I just I hope for his sake, it's
this is just like a speed bump and he kind
of gets past it. And because I like, I like
rooting for Rory and Mike.
Speaker 4 (11:26):
How long can you hang with us? What's your status here?
Speaker 2 (11:30):
Well to my phone, Ray, We'll try an hour, all.
Speaker 3 (11:33):
Right, Well, at some point in the second half an hour,
we'll get to the travelers in Cromwell, Connecticut, justin Thomas
leading among others at the halfway point. Scheffler right there.
Rory had a good first round, not so good in
a second, but we'll get to that in a minute.
From Mike's picks. Did you get a chance to watch
the end of the US Open last week?
Speaker 2 (11:54):
I Dick, to be honest with you, I'm trying about
because we're six hours of hey year. So it didn't
end proud We until one in the morning.
Speaker 3 (12:01):
In the morning, it was eight o'clock at night here
because there was a delay. It was a long rain delay.
It was almost dark by the time it ended, and
it poured at Mike, it was incredible theater.
Speaker 4 (12:13):
What a bizarre, bizarre finish. Yeah, just like I said
this to somebody the other day.
Speaker 3 (12:18):
Brendan Quinner Buddy covers golf for the Athletic The Major
Golf Sundays are among the greatest sports things ever, and
this year we had the Masters, which was incredible, and
this year was with JJ spawn who who was led.
He had the great first round and then he shoots
forty on the front nine. You go, well, he's done.
(12:39):
And then here he is com parting seventeen and eighteen
and finishes it off with a sixty four footer at
the buzzer. I mean, you can't make this stuff.
Speaker 5 (12:47):
And for a while, John Rahm was in the clubhouse
at four overright and everybody kept dropping.
Speaker 4 (12:52):
You're like, yeah, does he have a legitimate shot?
Speaker 3 (12:54):
And Mike had him at like twenty five to one,
and your other guy Hobblin only finished like two or
three shots back.
Speaker 4 (13:01):
Yeah, Like, it was amazing to watch live last Sunder.
It was awesome.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
I look, I've covered enough golf in my life to
know that sometimes it's boring. You know, sometimes it just
isn't exciting. Some guy you don't really care about wins
by three and you go, okay, But I'm telling you
that when golf and and Tager sometimes made it boring
because he just ran away and won. You know, there's tagging,
But I'm telling you, man, it's like I'm not a
(13:29):
horse racing guy. Dick per se But when you get
a race that's just you know, you're sitting there going
on and you replay it ten times because you want
to see how it happened. Now, sometimes GoF is like that.
And I read about the sixty four foot putt, so
the chances are pretty good. I guess he can three
put that right.
Speaker 4 (13:48):
Yeah, it's not out of the question, I mean.
Speaker 3 (13:50):
And what was really fortunate for him was after he
shot it, Hoblin shot it and was like a foot
behind him on the exact same line. Yes, and he
got to look at the line right before shut It
was almost like I said, my man, I'm going to
help you out here.
Speaker 6 (14:08):
It was.
Speaker 2 (14:08):
I was trying to follow along as best I could,
and I think when I went to bed the guy,
the left handed guy, ball guy, Yeah, yes, I really
thought I thought he was going to win. I really did,
because he could.
Speaker 4 (14:23):
It looked yeah, promising, you know. So spawn then again
he's out of it. He shoots forty.
Speaker 3 (14:28):
Then he gets a long birdy putt I think on
maybe twelve or thirteen, and then he's back in it
sort of.
Speaker 4 (14:34):
Then on seventeen he.
Speaker 3 (14:35):
Drives the green with an incredible like three hundred and
forty yard drive.
Speaker 2 (14:39):
I mean he took he drove seventeen.
Speaker 3 (14:41):
Correct, he did it, drove like a three hundred and
forty yard drive, Mike, And he had like a eagle Yeah,
and he tapped tap thirty. It was well like a
fifteen foot fifteen foot eagle putt, tap in birdie.
Speaker 4 (14:53):
That ends him in the lead.
Speaker 3 (14:54):
Now he needs a part of win because nobody can
catch him at this point because everybody behind him has collapsed.
And he hit his second shot. His first shot was dry,
was fine on eighteen. The second shot and it was fine,
but it was sixty four feet away. You know, you'd
rather be twenty feet away. Uh, and then you know what,
I need two putts?
Speaker 4 (15:13):
Why don't I just take one? Let's take the drama.
But yeah, just was it was?
Speaker 2 (15:17):
It? Was it moving? Was it moving fast as when
it hit the cup?
Speaker 4 (15:21):
You know it was moving, But I don't really know.
Speaker 3 (15:23):
I think judging by Hobblin's putt, it was probably gonna
stop not long after that you would have made. It's
probably been a four foot or uphill, it's my guess.
But yeah, he certainly would have I would, you think.
Speaker 5 (15:33):
But it's funny because you know you're watching and everybody's
just collapsing. And not only did JJ spawn all you
want to do in that back nine, in those conditions
at Oakmond, I mean, on a beautiful sunny day, it's difficult,
but with the rain, everybody's collapsing. Not only are you
trying to tread water and just not mess up. Yeah,
JJ spawn was the only one that legitimately made shots.
(15:54):
He while everybody else collapsed behind him.
Speaker 4 (15:56):
He wanted.
Speaker 3 (15:57):
I mean, look, Mike, you've covered enough majors to birdie
the last especially that.
Speaker 4 (16:04):
I was playing.
Speaker 2 (16:05):
There are not many people I will guarantee you. I
remember the one guy in twenty eleven, a foreign guy,
thirty last four holes of Augusta. But because he was
an unknown foreign guy, nobody remembers. Tiger had done that,
it would have been the stuff for whatever. But all
I know is this the US Open, you know, and
I know Wyndham Clark went nuts and trashed the club
(16:26):
how or whatever he did. The US Open is the
US Open. Cannot be the Masters or the PGA. People
have to understand this. When you go into a US Open,
this eight times out of ten, this is what it's
going to be. It's a torture chamber. And if you
don't embrace it, even Parr usually wins the tournament. And
(16:48):
all these people are trashing it. Yeah, but all these
people trash it. They're like, well, you know, it's hard.
Of course it's hard. It's the US Open.
Speaker 4 (16:59):
I mean, I think crazy because of all the rain. Mike,
they had what a two hour delay almost because it rained.
Speaker 2 (17:04):
Yeah during the round.
Speaker 4 (17:06):
I love watching the mass I think it's great. It's
great television. It looked like.
Speaker 2 (17:11):
But this is why we love the Masters so much,
is because Master Sunday is not that. Master Sunday is
about the guy either hitting it in the water or
making eagle. That's what Masters, and that's why we loved
it because it's the Masters and and hey, here comes
this guy, and but that the US Open. I'm telling
you it is the longest week of the golf year
(17:34):
and there's not even another week that comes close. And
you know, you either embrace it. I mean that we
Scottie Scheffler played pretty well last week and he finished
four over it.
Speaker 3 (17:45):
Actually it's sort of in the hunt late on Sunday
because everybody was calling yeah around him. But JJ spawn
is such a cool story because Mike knows this, and
you guys probably remember he lost a playoff in the
players to Rory. Uh he hit the ball, that's right, Yes,
the first playoff all he hit in the water. Yeah,
he just completely And then he comes back and he
(18:05):
was a walk on at San Diego State.
Speaker 4 (18:08):
He was he was got no no.
Speaker 3 (18:10):
Golf privileges at all in his life. It was sort
of a self taught becomes like a star golfer. Was
on the tour, was off the tour, almost was off
the tour again last year, and now he's on the
tour forever.
Speaker 4 (18:25):
Once you win the US Open, you have well apparently.
Speaker 2 (18:28):
If you're in I was reading, you guys might have
seen this. He was up the night before with his
daughter was sick. He was up at like three in
the morning taking medicine.
Speaker 3 (18:40):
Yeah, to Pittsburgh to the Open, CVS twenty four hours,
CBS to get some medicine.
Speaker 4 (18:46):
Who needs was smart.
Speaker 2 (18:49):
They would put a sticker on his they become a sponsor,
he'd be CVS have.
Speaker 4 (18:53):
It on his hat.
Speaker 1 (18:54):
No court.
Speaker 4 (18:54):
I think he stopped at McDonald's and got a hamburger.
I don't know. I haven't looked.
Speaker 3 (18:58):
I don't see how I didn't see how he how's
he doing with the travelers?
Speaker 4 (19:02):
Check it out.
Speaker 2 (19:03):
It doesn't matter, It doesn't matter.
Speaker 4 (19:06):
He was struggling when I was watching, Yes, or I
think it was like five over at we'll get the mics.
Four over, four over fifty nine.
Speaker 9 (19:15):
That's fine.
Speaker 4 (19:16):
You know what the great to make the cut, he's
probably gone four over is not going to make the cut.
Speaker 2 (19:20):
I don't think. I don't think there's a cut this week.
I think it's.
Speaker 4 (19:25):
Yeah, yeah, everybody.
Speaker 2 (19:27):
Yeah, they just played Sat and Kim. When a horse,
the greatest thing about this is wait, when you're say
JJ spawn never wins anything else in his life or whatever,
he will always get introduced as the US Open champion.
It's like when a horse wins the Kentucky Derby, right,
(19:47):
not that you're necessarily but you are a Kentucky Derby
winner forever.
Speaker 4 (19:52):
It just takes one that ball Moon, that's right, Yeah, Rich, straight, unbelievable.
Speaker 3 (20:00):
I want to tomorrow night, Mike God, this would be
a little two o'clock in the morning for you give
her take an hour, so it starts eight o'clock ABC
Game seven. I'll be fascinated to see what the the
last game seven. By the way, was Cleveland at against
Golden State in nine years ago, and I remember that
(20:23):
drew thirty three million television watchers. I'll be fascinated to
see what this does tomorrow.
Speaker 4 (20:30):
What a great rivalry that was. Yeah, yeah, thirty three million.
Speaker 3 (20:34):
Oklahoma City minus seven and a half at bet Parks
two hundred and fifteen is the over under money line
minus two ninety five plus two thirty five. A couple
other interesting bets. Halliburton is now thirteen to one at
bet Parks to win the MVP. Uh Siakama is three
and a half to one. Obviously, SGA is minus three
(20:56):
thirty five, a heavy fair. Williams is the second choice
for Oklahoma City. But I don't I didn't see him listening.
Speaker 4 (21:03):
Love TJ.
Speaker 3 (21:04):
He's been awesome. Let's let's talk game first. Last week, Mike,
you weren't You weren't with us, but col neither were you.
I said Indiana was four to one to win the series, remember,
and I said, I'm taking Indiana, not that I think
they're gonna win, but four to one is a ridiculous price.
At that point where we tied it two, I'm kind
(21:26):
of losing track where we were like, yeah, we were
tied at yeah, so I said, I said, give me
them at four to one. They they lose by eleven
in Oklahoma City. They hang in Okay See, makes a
million threes and then they come back and just annihilate
the Thunder The other night, I mean just killed by
a They want to win, went by like seventeen, but
(21:48):
they're up by thirty to end the third I turned
it off. Uh, Michael will start with you. Let me
what are your thoughts. I know you're not getting all
the your thoughts on this final game.
Speaker 7 (21:57):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (21:58):
At the NBA season, I thought before the series, I
really thought a good bet because I heard some guys
talking on the TV about you can bet the under
five and a half. You know that it wouldn't get
to a game. I really thought Indiana could win a
couple of games. I just didn't think they could win
the series because I just think the other team's better.
(22:20):
And it seems like, you know, the Thunders only lost
twice back to back all year, and one was in
a game that didn't matter at the end of the season,
and I think the other time was in November. So
this team does not lose.
Speaker 3 (22:32):
Yeah, here's their home record thirty six and six in
the regular season, ten to two in the playoffs. So
we're talking forty six and eight and the two they
lost in the playoffs they had giant leads over Denver
in Indiana.
Speaker 4 (22:44):
Yeah, they are.
Speaker 2 (22:45):
I think I hate doing this because I know it's
the bad bet, but I really think I would play
the money line and play them because I can. I mean,
if they lose. Can you imagine if you're Oklahoma City
and you lose this game, your whole season just got
flushed down the toilet.
Speaker 4 (23:05):
You know what you are?
Speaker 3 (23:06):
Golden You're Golden State in twenty sixteen and you had, yeah,
seventy three and didn't win the title.
Speaker 4 (23:12):
That's what you are.
Speaker 2 (23:13):
Yeah, but Golden State had won a title the year
before I got it.
Speaker 3 (23:17):
Yeah, yeah, they had the best record in NBA history
and they didn't win the chimpis.
Speaker 2 (23:21):
No I I lost. I think Indiana can maybe give
them a game. I'm not saying that it's going to be,
you know, but I'm telling I just cannot. And I
know that's a bad bet. I get all the reasons
why that's a bad bet, but yeah, but I just
don't see, okaysee losing them.
Speaker 4 (23:41):
So here's my theory. It was fascinating.
Speaker 3 (23:44):
So Indiana, you talk about adjustments, everybody's making adjustment. So
the whole playoffs, they're picking up full court. They're driving
teams crazy. Well, if you watch Game five, they solved it.
Oklahoma City solved it by having it. And I've never
seen a team do this. They were having the running
ball screens at half court where they were given SGA
(24:04):
or running and Williams a running start. So what did
Carlisle do after all these games? It's worked great? He says,
that's it for the full court. We're going back. We're
playing from the three point line and in And if
you watch the game the other night, it looked like
Oklahoma City was playing in an elevator.
Speaker 4 (24:20):
There was no room to move at all.
Speaker 3 (24:24):
So now, what is Oklahoma City's next adjustment back? I
will say this going into the game, I like Indiana
plus seven and a half. I think these teams are
very closely matched. Oklahoma City has dominated the games at
home other than the one they blew it in Game one.
So there is that, and it's a perfectly legitimate thing.
(24:45):
But I think these teams are really really close. And
when that happens. I'm taking the points, plus I already
took them at four to one last week.
Speaker 4 (24:53):
John, what do you go?
Speaker 6 (24:54):
I think I'm actually going to go with the thunder here.
As you just said, the adjustment was made by the Pacers.
I think Oklahoma City adjust but also they're just better
at home.
Speaker 4 (25:03):
They're incredible.
Speaker 6 (25:04):
Yeah, this is just kind of where the spot's great.
Oklahoma City, I still think is the better team, and
they're going to be at home, which they're thirty five
and six overall at home in the regular.
Speaker 4 (25:14):
Season, as you just mentioned, ten or two in the postseason.
Speaker 6 (25:18):
It's just all set up for Oklahoma City to take
this for SGA to get the NBA Finals MVP. A
great series by the Pacers, but this is this is
one of those games like they just I think they
gave their best shot in Game six. They had to,
it was necessary. But on the other side of that
is now you're going to get Oklahoma City's best shot yep,
and I think that's going to be a little too
much for in the end of it.
Speaker 3 (25:38):
So another thought on this, Now there's now something to
be won by both teams. This is a game for
the NBA Championship. This is a game for a forever
dame and teams. You see this more in the Final
four than an NBA because there just hadn't been that
many Game sevens in recent years. But sometimes that he
gets to one of the teams again, I've seen it
(26:00):
in final fours. They'll play great and all of a
sudden there's a trophy waiting. They go, oh my god,
there's a trophy. We could freak out. I don't know
which team, frankly that favors. Certainly the pressure is on
the home team.
Speaker 4 (26:11):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (26:11):
Right, they had this great regular season, they got the MVP,
they got it all going. They were the other day
they were minus two thousand leading up to the game
Game six to win the series.
Speaker 4 (26:22):
Well they're not minus two thousand anymore.
Speaker 3 (26:24):
I mean they were just like overwhelming, like they'll win
one of the two games, Kyle, your thoughts.
Speaker 6 (26:30):
Well, the best example, real quick of what you're talking
about with Game seven Mavericks and Sons. When the Mavericks
beat the Suns one twenty three to ninety. Mavericks are
ready for it. The Sons were absolutely shelf at home.
Yeah at home too, by the whole thing. They just
were deer at headlights the whole game correct and they.
Speaker 3 (26:46):
Again, there's no way Oklahoma City's as bad as they
were the other night.
Speaker 4 (26:49):
They've been too good of a season.
Speaker 3 (26:51):
And once the game got out of hand, there was
you know whatever, and they had it, couldn't miss, they
couldn't make a three, and you forget the score. It's irrelevant.
It's like the horse that loses by fifty. The jockey
stuffs trying, Kyle, what.
Speaker 2 (27:01):
Do you got?
Speaker 5 (27:02):
Yeah, I'm gonna lean towards Indiana here, so I'll split
the split the table. Yeah, I'll take the plus seven
and a half and I would not be surprised if
the Pacers win outright. I've been saying it all series long.
OKAYC on paper is the better team. There's just something
about this Indiana team where they're just resilient all the time.
(27:23):
And it goes to your point, Dick, where one of
these teams might come out a little deer in the
headlights when when that trophy is, you know, shining in
their face. OKAC has had some major turnover problems throughout
the playoffs, and in this series, I could see that
rearing its ugly head in Indiana with how good its
offense is taking advantage of it and then next thing,
(27:45):
you know, the thunder or a little bit on their
heels in this game. With that being said, and I
know Haliburton's banged up, but Indiana has a good bench,
someone like TJ. McConnell's been stepping up. I can see
that happen again. And if it comes down to the
end and it's a close game, I can see Indiana
just kind of, you know, prevailing in the end over.
Speaker 4 (28:08):
Oksee, they've been incredible in close games.
Speaker 3 (28:10):
There's a couple other numbers, none of which probably irrelevantcause
we're talking about forty eight minutes and that's that's what's
going to be relevant tomorrow night. At one point of
this season, Indiana was sixteen and eighteen. They finished thirty
four and fourteen from January first on. Oklahoma City finished
forty one to nine from January first on. In the playoffs,
both teams are fifteen and seven at check this out.
(28:34):
If Indiana wins the title, if they win this game
tomorrow night, they will have beaten in the playoffs forty
eight win Milwaukee, sixty four win Cleveland, fifty one knicks,
and sixty eight Oklahoma City with the home court in
exactly one of the fourth series. This is going to
be an all time if Indiana wins.
Speaker 2 (28:56):
Can I ask you a question? Can I ask your question?
Speaker 4 (28:58):
Yeah, I'm gonna let Sean break the time. Then you
get ask, oh, okay, Sean.
Speaker 8 (29:01):
Go ahead the right thing, Bernardo, Yeah, this is one
that my head and heart are certainly split here. I
do think, like all my logic in the basketball sense
here does believe that the Thunder are going to get
their bounce back and turn this into a little bit
of a convincing victory. But there is something about this
Pacers team, so ultimately, from a betting perspective, I'm taking
the Pacers to cover.
Speaker 9 (29:18):
But I do think that the Thunder do get the
job done here.
Speaker 8 (29:21):
I don't like that they've played with their food a
little bit, but I do think they're the better team
and Haliburt and I do think it's a little bit
more injured than we fully know. They were able to
limit them to twenty three minutes in the last game.
I don't think that's going to be able to be
the case in Game seven.
Speaker 4 (29:32):
Yeah, and what.
Speaker 3 (29:33):
Happens a lot in these injury situations, A player could
do it for one game.
Speaker 4 (29:39):
That next game is a nightmare, and I'll give you it.
Speaker 3 (29:41):
For instance, Caitlyn Clark came back off her injury, and
I don't know if anybody got a chance to see it.
Speaker 4 (29:46):
She makes seven three.
Speaker 3 (29:47):
She was incredible in the game where people were pushing
her to the ground and all that crazy stuff which
we can get into at some point. She goes to
San Francisco, the night goes oh for seven from three.
Speaker 2 (29:56):
Yeah.
Speaker 3 (29:56):
The second game after layoffs and or injuries, the first
one you get on adrenaline.
Speaker 4 (30:01):
I see this as a racetrack all the time. Second
one not so good, Mike.
Speaker 2 (30:03):
What was your question, sir, No, I'm a couple of thoughts.
One is, what were the Pacers before the playoffs stuff?
Because I thought, I said on the show, there was
no chance they were going to lose to Milwaukee in
my mind. After that, I you know, and I love Halburton.
What were they just start the playoffs really like twenty
to one twenty? What were they?
Speaker 4 (30:24):
Probably more than that, that would be my guess.
Speaker 3 (30:26):
I mean, look, Cleveland, Cleveland dominated the East and the Celtics,
and the thing was you're gonna have to beat both
of them just to get to the finals to play.
I guess it's just about impossible on paper, but they
ain't on paper anymore.
Speaker 2 (30:45):
What I'm saying is if they lose this gift, the
Indiana loses, and I know that's not gonna make them
feeling but but imagine this one that they've had just
nobody thought, you know. And the only thing I keep
thinking about this game is SGA is better than Haliburton.
And that's what I think ultimately, especially now that Haliburton
(31:05):
maybe he's heard or whatever he is SKA. Yeah, SGA
is not going to have a bad game. Now. I
don't know if the other guy that scored forty the
other night what he's going to do. But SGA is
going to have around thirty five points. Is Halburton going
to do?
Speaker 6 (31:25):
You know?
Speaker 2 (31:25):
Can he have twenty some? I'm just not sure. And
that's what I think. The ultimate difference in the game
is going to be is their best player is going
to play a great game. And I'm not sure what
Indiana is. You know, it's Siakam. Maybe you could make
the argument he's their best player or their second best player.
That's I just can't see. For all the no case,
(31:46):
he's done this year to get to this point, and
they probably never thought that we'd get to this point.
But they're here. For them to lose, yeah, I mean
for them to lose this game. But we've seen it happen, right,
we've seen guys team.
Speaker 4 (32:01):
Yeah, we saw it up.
Speaker 2 (32:02):
Yeah, but it's not like that.
Speaker 7 (32:04):
Yeah.
Speaker 2 (32:04):
And they won in Golden State, right, they were in
Golden State when they won that game.
Speaker 3 (32:08):
Golden State won seventy three games, they had the home
court and if you remember, that's the year they barely
beat Oklahoma City.
Speaker 4 (32:15):
They were trailed in that series.
Speaker 3 (32:16):
That was the Durant hardened West or Duran in Westbrook,
I think was gone by that time, already to Houston.
Speaker 2 (32:23):
But that was the game where Lebron had the great
block and Kyrie made shot at the end of the game.
Speaker 4 (32:28):
Right, that is correct, that's exactly so looks like that.
Speaker 5 (32:31):
Before the playoffs started, the Pacers were plus sixty six
hundred sixty six to one.
Speaker 4 (32:37):
Yeah, fifty six to one, yeah, I mean that's the
right number.
Speaker 2 (32:40):
And there and they're in game seven. Oh my god, how.
Speaker 4 (32:43):
Would you like to be sitting on that? Yeah, right now?
And like you said, look, the pant they had to
take to get here.
Speaker 3 (32:48):
That's why they were sixty six to one, and they
look they avoided the Celtics. You know, the next weren't
easier beat the the Celtics, not that they were easy,
but easier of the two.
Speaker 2 (32:57):
Right.
Speaker 3 (32:58):
Yeah, there's there's a lot of I saw somebody with
a live bet on this the other day.
Speaker 4 (33:04):
Is guy's got the Pacers.
Speaker 3 (33:06):
He bet twenty five hundred on him at thirty five
to one way back when he stands to win ninety thousand.
Speaker 4 (33:13):
Wow, that's that was he bet this bet.
Speaker 3 (33:15):
When I let me see if I can see it's
a futures, I can't really see when he bet it,
but it looks like he bet it on.
Speaker 4 (33:22):
Oh, he bet it on May the sixth, so they
were already into the they were they.
Speaker 3 (33:26):
Were still a big There was thirty five to one
during the playoffs after the files had started, so yeah,
he didn't get them at the beginning.
Speaker 4 (33:33):
But yeah, it's he's cashing out before game seven. Yeah,
I mean that that's the one where you could definitely
middle it. Yeah, you could. You can get your bet
or take the take the just take the money line
with uh. There's all kinds of things you can do
with that. Got a bet sitting out there.
Speaker 2 (33:48):
Yeah, kick, you've seen You've seen a lot of basketball,
You've seen coaches, whatever. How good is Rick Carlile? Can
you put it into perspective? He's been around for a
long time, you want to tell you old, But I
don't think he's viewed as being you know that guy necessarily.
But man, I got like a new perspective on the guy.
Speaker 3 (34:08):
Yeah, I mean, look, he when he won in Dallas,
there were gigantic underdogs, the little broad, Dwayne Wade, Chris
Bosh heat, gigantic underdogs, probably similar to what the Pacers were,
I would think, yeah, and they want it so yeah,
I mean if he does it again, and especially the
way they have done it with these four in each round,
(34:30):
four impossible comebacks at different stations of the thing. But yeah,
it's just it's to me, it's absolutely fascinating. I hope
they get a great audience tomorrow because they deserve it.
The ball has been great. It'd be a great end
of the NBA season. I am absolutely looking forward to it.
And yeah, in one way, I'd hate to see Oklahoma
(34:51):
City lose, because man, that's brutal.
Speaker 4 (34:53):
If you end up losing this thing.
Speaker 3 (34:55):
I kind of root for that team in that spot,
but damn if Indiana wins, that would be and they
certainly they deserve it just as much. They have played
phenomenal and again since January first, they've been Oklahoma City
was the best team. Indiana had the fourth best record
in the league after January first, and obviously in the
playoffs they've been sensational.
Speaker 2 (35:16):
What did the Sixers have?
Speaker 4 (35:18):
Not as good?
Speaker 2 (35:18):
Mike?
Speaker 8 (35:19):
Uh?
Speaker 2 (35:20):
As good?
Speaker 4 (35:20):
Not quite as good. Now we'll get this.
Speaker 3 (35:23):
We'll get to some golf picks with Mike right after
the break, and a couple other thoughts on the NBA
Finals and anything.
Speaker 4 (35:29):
Else we got going on.

Speaker 4 (37:26):
All right, Mike, what have we got the Travelers Championship?
Or halfway through?
Speaker 2 (37:30):
Okay, before we get to that, can I do a
real quick We lost somebody this week to me, John Shirves,
who owned a third generation Bowie Kobasi place down in
Port Richmond. Shurves and if you've ever been down there,
it is the neighborhood. There are people like in Eastern
(37:52):
that line up around the block twice.
Speaker 4 (37:54):
What is is this place? Mike?
Speaker 2 (37:57):
It's called I'm gonna see. Oh, it's a Klebasi Parrogi sasages.
It has served, It has served. Fort Richmondson nineteen thirty eight,
his grandfather, I believe. Start. But anyway, and I was
over here and I did not notice. I see John
maybe about once every two months I go down. You know,
(38:18):
he's just he's one of those guys that if your
family didn't have any money, he'd be showing up at
your door to give you food. He did things like that.
And he passed away, uh the other day. Apparently he
had cancer and aggressive cancer, and I was totally caught
off guard. But I'm going to, you know, hopefully if
(38:38):
I get back in his viewing whatever, there'll be ten
thousand people there. I mean, it'll it will be nuts
and he will be sorely missed. So I just thought
I should say that, So no question I'm losing too
many people anymore. I swear to God. It's almost like
an epid, I know. But he's he was fifty, he
was fifty five, dick.
Speaker 3 (38:58):
I mean that's the way. Yeah, that'sz E r W.
Speaker 2 (39:05):
Yeah, but it's pretty yeah, And I always pronounce it wrong,
but I think it's pronounced sure. I think that's how
you pronounced it. And the Inquiry did a really nice
story on him, so if you get a chance and
you want to read it. In the Travelers, we have,
shockingly Scottie Scheffler tied for the lead with Justin Thomas,
(39:25):
who's you know, legit, and Tommy Fleetwood, who has sicken
always points out correctly has never won a PGA Tour event,
even though he's really a good gobblin. Uh. And in
one shot back you have Jason Day. So Scott is
even money. Justin and Fleetwood are five or five and
(39:47):
a half to one, Jason's twelve to one, and I'm
gonna I mean, look, if I was telling you who's
gonna win, Look, you gotta take Scotty. Your second pick
is probably Justin just because, but I'm gonna take Jason
Day at twelve to one. Jason hasn't one in a while.
He's a good guy. He shot two sixty sixes, so
it seems like he's playing pretty well. Probably doesn't have
(40:08):
enough to win, but I'm going to take a shot
at twelve to one that everybody will be looking at
Scheffler and Justin and maybe he can sneak in there.
Speaker 3 (40:16):
What's what's the number on my man? Kegan Bradley is
minus six?
Speaker 2 (40:21):
I would have to I think he was like sixteen
or twenty, somewhere in that range.
Speaker 4 (40:27):
A New England won the tournament.
Speaker 2 (40:31):
Whenever Scott is twenty guy, right, you can get some
good numbers on a lot of.
Speaker 4 (40:37):
People, right. If he doesn't win, the field is a
good thing at that point.
Speaker 2 (40:41):
Yeah, I mean, I'll tell you what. Last week, I
think Scotty had one bad, really bad. I think the
second there was a round where everybody shot four over.
My guy shot four over. Everybody's guy shot four over.
He played fairly well the rest of the week, you know,
coming off as PGA. So I don't know.
Speaker 3 (41:01):
So dnnys gooth is it minus seven Nick Taylor minus six?
Good group because it's as Mike said early, it's a
twenty million dollars events.
Speaker 4 (41:07):
All the heavyweights are.
Speaker 2 (41:10):
Warriors.
Speaker 4 (41:10):
Warriors are going there. He's like minus eight quarter back.
Speaker 2 (41:15):
He didn't play well yesterday, but war is the kind
of guy you guys noticed he could go out today
and shoot a real good number absolutely and put it
and he and he I think he was actually less
than Jason Day. I think he was eight to one
or ten to one. I'm not sure you're one eighteen
because he's good. He's that high. Yeah wow, but it's well,
you know what wor worried at eighteen. You don't get
(41:37):
worried eighteen to one very often.
Speaker 3 (41:39):
But you know you could get like you said, he
got you to sixty two today and he's going to
lead heat of the Sunday and who knows our couple
thoughts as we we are two and a half hours
or so away from the end of the NBA season
is actually going to end on Sunday at bet Parks.
We already have the numbers out for NBA champions of
twenty twenty five, twenty twenty six. Anybody want to pick
(42:01):
the favors at this point at that parks for next season?
Huh okay, see plus two hundred. Next at plus nine hundred.
We have two teams. This is a little harder.
Speaker 4 (42:13):
Oh Boston, no, wow, No, no, Tata Remember Cleveland.
Speaker 2 (42:19):
Yes, plus nine Wait a minute, give me holding, give
me secondary.
Speaker 4 (42:23):
Cleveland is one of them.
Speaker 2 (42:26):
Minnesota, No, the Lakers.
Speaker 4 (42:29):
No, No, the Sixers forty to one, Oh Sis, that's disgusting.
Next at nine to one, which I found interesting. Then Houston,
I don't think.
Speaker 2 (42:42):
I don't think the Knick should be nine to one.
Speaker 4 (42:44):
But yeah, no, it's the next. People like the best.
I'll pass on them. Those Houston's twelve.
Speaker 3 (42:50):
Lakers are fourteen, Orlando's fourteen after the Desmond Bane trade,
which was a great trade for them, Yeah, because they
had nobody that.
Speaker 4 (42:56):
Could shoot, and now they actually have somebody who can
really shoot.
Speaker 3 (43:00):
Boston is sixteen, Golden State twenty five, Clippers twenty five
Indiana is a dozen along with Houston, and you.
Speaker 2 (43:08):
Know it's going to be interesting, Dick. If Giannis ends
up with the team that's a contender, sure those numbers
will change.
Speaker 4 (43:15):
Right.
Speaker 3 (43:16):
If somebody thinks they have an inside on where Jannis
is going, then you bet or even Durant is right.
Speaker 4 (43:22):
You bet that team a couple of parlays for tomorrow.
Speaker 3 (43:27):
Tomorrow night, Oklahoma City on the money line Hartenstein over
six and a half rebounds, Indiana to score over one
hundred and three and a half and Nie Smith over
one and a half threes.
Speaker 4 (43:43):
It's eight and a half to one. I like that
anybody anybody.
Speaker 5 (43:47):
Wants some of that, Yeah, especially like Denise Smith over
one and a half threes. I think that he's got
to get them all. Yeah, Oh, I know you understand
parlay as you know how this works.
Speaker 2 (43:56):
I think I like it. That's an interesting barlay, especially
if you like Oklahoma City to win.
Speaker 3 (44:02):
Right, Oklahoma City should win. Hartenstein, if they're playing good defense, should.
Speaker 2 (44:08):
Get sets abounds.
Speaker 4 (44:11):
Although he's not as big as he is, he's not
a great rebounder.
Speaker 5 (44:14):
So in this series so far, as rebound totals are
nine to eight three six eight and four, So it
doesn't That's probably a perfect thing.
Speaker 4 (44:22):
Right right.
Speaker 3 (44:22):
That's why these guys, that's why these people at bet
parks are good. Indiana over one hundred and three and
a half. If they don't score over one hundred and
three and a half, they're going to get crushed. You
would think that is true. A Nie Smith over one
and a half threes. I mean, he can make two
in the first minute, or he could make none, but
I would probably stick over. Here's the other one. There's
a bunch of them at bet parks. Check them out
(44:44):
for tomorrow night. Indiana on the money line. Total game
total two hundred and seventeen and a half and it's
two fifteen straight up now, so they're making you. They're
making you buy a little more and making you buy
two and a half points. There Hartenstein over five and
a half points and Halliburton over six and a half assists.
Speaker 4 (45:05):
That's fifteen to one.
Speaker 3 (45:07):
Wow, So you're playing you're getting only your number, but
now you're taking a team that's so seven and a
half point underdog to wins straight up.
Speaker 2 (45:14):
Among other things, Hey, is the NBA Draft this week.
Speaker 4 (45:18):
Or next Wednesday? Wednesday? Just in times, so you get home.
Speaker 2 (45:23):
Well, can I ask you, guys, I've been reading stories
who would have six You're taken?
Speaker 4 (45:28):
Sean? What's the light? Yeah?
Speaker 8 (45:30):
V Day Edge Comb sounds like it's going to be
the guy is Ace Bailey has made it crystal clear
he does not want to play in Philadelphia, right, Yeah.
Speaker 3 (45:38):
You probably missed this, Mike, but he was scheduled. I
saw that, yeah, right, and he's and his agent and
he said, no, he hasn't gone anywhere.
Speaker 9 (45:45):
Yeah, no workouts.
Speaker 4 (45:47):
I'm a little confused, A is what what the strategy
is there? But yeah, he's setting himself up perfect here. Yeah, whatever,
I mean, I'll ask Benard.
Speaker 6 (45:57):
Is it like he isn't meeting with anyone, isn't doing
it any Does this mean he clearly doesn't want to
be with the sixers or he's just because sometimes the
NFL draft, NFL players will do this far they know
they're going to be like a top three to top
five pick, and they don't work out, don't talk with
anyone because like I guess that I already made everything available,
or like the tape speaks for itself kind of thing,
(46:18):
like I don't need to do anything. Is that kind
of what's happening here though.
Speaker 8 (46:21):
Yeah, he created the problem, So I don't have full
out sympathy for Ace here, but this is certainly a
case where it's a kid receiving some very bad advice
and listening to it. He's represented by Omar Cooper is
his agent, who is not one of the big time
agents and has very few clients. His son, Sharif Cooper,
is the only real other and NBA success story that
he had, and the relationship kind of from here to
spiral for Ace playing for him on his AAU team.
(46:44):
But the bottom line is he kind of has penned
him in as this clearcut top three guy, which there's
a legitimate case for talent wise, but there's still questions
with Ace, so I don't really understand what their game
plan is. He absolutely has heard his draft stock and like,
even if Philadelphia is not where you want to go,
you made the optics of all this looks so much worse.
Speaker 9 (47:01):
And I do think that that's going to stick to
Ace a little bit.
Speaker 8 (47:03):
So I don't think he's a bad kid by any means,
but definitely receiving some very bad advice currently, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (47:09):
Because you want to play for the Wings if you
want to play for the Wings.
Speaker 8 (47:14):
That seems honestly to be the case is it's either
a Brooklyn or Utah. He wants to go somewhere where
he can shoot the ball twenty times a game right away.
Speaker 4 (47:21):
He wants to score time. It sounds like.
Speaker 3 (47:26):
Maybe not as relevant. So at this point, Mike Cooper
flag we know is going to one. Dylan Harper's going
to even if there's a trade with San Antonio, He's
still going to that's not even in question. So Sean
tell Mike and austin the audience, what's the deal on
our man.
Speaker 8 (47:42):
J Yeah, he's really a cool player out of Baylor,
and for a dude that when we kind of talk
about some not character concerns, but I guess attitude concerns
with Ace Bailey, it's the exact opposite with VJ. Edgecumb
So he's a little bit smaller than ideal, like six
foot five he measures in, but a freak athlete, dude.
It's gonna be one of the top percentile athletes in
the NBA right from day one that he'll dunk on anybody,
plays incredibly hard as a defensive playmaker that's all over
(48:05):
the place on that side, of the ball, So they're
gonna have to get a little bit creative with the
guard rotations with Jared McCain, with Tyrese Maxe, Quentin Grimes
and all these guys. But this is a dude that's
been a high pedigree guy for his whole life. Has
been viewed as like this clearcut NBA guy for a
long time, and I think that there's a lot more
to him untapped than we were able to see him
one year at Baylor as well.
Speaker 4 (48:23):
I bet shooting what's what's his three point shot?
Speaker 9 (48:27):
He shot thirty five percent in college.
Speaker 8 (48:29):
His numbers in high school look better than this, and
they his coach has even talked about but he had
a little bit of a change to like the shooting
release at the start of the season, So you can
break down the splits the pretty promising the second half
of the year. I'm pretty confident that he's going to
be at least a good shooter at the NBA level.
Speaker 3 (48:44):
So every sense we're getting, assuming the Sixers stay where
they are, they're taking gets goo. That's what that's what
that's what we're hearing. We feel fairly confident about that.
Speaker 8 (48:54):
Yeah, I'm not going to say there's a zero percent
chance of a guy like Trey Johnson or Conkinepole here.
Speaker 9 (48:58):
But it does feel like that V is the heavy
favorite for sure.
Speaker 4 (49:01):
Okay, and do you get a sense Sewan that they're
going to hold the pick.
Speaker 8 (49:05):
I think if they can get a legitimate offer to
move down and pick up a couple of assets, that
they would do it. But uh, the other part that
I think is really the most detrimental about the whole
As Bailey conversation is he's kind of ruined their leverage
with those negotiation points, because you can't really fool a
team off if you want, as Bailey, you got to
come up and get them at this point.
Speaker 3 (49:23):
Yeah, yeah, that's a great point, because yeah, they will
have to be able to go to five or six
and still take edge coming right, But yeah, that becomes
less less of a chance. So Mike, you get home
just in time for the sixers and once they make
their draft pick, we'll all come out of it.
Speaker 4 (49:38):
The bet parks and better than forty to one to
win the toughs or for them, I think.
Speaker 2 (49:45):
Markel folks unavailable, Well, they could move up to get Markel.
They can move up to number two or something. Not available.
Oh god, I'm sorry. Have they said anything at all
about Joe now he had his surgery if I'm correct,
(50:06):
over two months ago.
Speaker 4 (50:07):
No silence, complete silence.
Speaker 2 (50:09):
Still they still lie to us, They still.
Speaker 4 (50:14):
They just haven't said anything. Yeah no, no.
Speaker 2 (50:18):
Did did they say they were going to give an
update though in like three weeks or a month last?
Speaker 8 (50:24):
The last update we got was like two and a
half months ago, saying that there would be an update
in six weeks.
Speaker 4 (50:30):
But you know, he had his.
Speaker 8 (50:31):
Surgery as it was, it was successful, all that kind
of stuff. But yeah, no, uh no updates.
Speaker 6 (50:36):
Well, there we are going to hear from Maury, I
think before or after the draft, So I mean it's
going to be asked.
Speaker 4 (50:41):
Honestly, I think that rather the silence than listen.
Speaker 2 (50:44):
To can I make the bet? Do you think Barks
should let me beck Joe does not play in the
first game? Can I make that bet?
Speaker 4 (50:57):
I was just I was just cruising around futures and
by fall, but I did not see that.
Speaker 5 (51:02):
I didn't see that either. I would probably place it
at minus twenty thousand.
Speaker 3 (51:05):
Yeah, I don't think that that's just they would get inundated, Mike.
I don't think Parks be Parks is looking to take
that play.
Speaker 2 (51:12):
Yeah, so you so you mean I would. I would
have to lay a lot, is what you're saying, Because.
Speaker 3 (51:17):
I'm saying off the board, everybody's it wouldn't matter what
the price was.
Speaker 4 (51:22):
Everybody dall Moore.
Speaker 2 (51:23):
But didn't Dalla Moore tell me he's going to be
healthy and he's going to be ready to.
Speaker 4 (51:28):
Go, And I mean as an eternal out.
Speaker 5 (51:34):
Come off surgery and play in their early thirties or
you know, that's some of the best years of their
NBA career.
Speaker 4 (51:39):
Go ahead, Mike, mark it down.
Speaker 2 (51:41):
Christmas or New Year's right around there, we will be
seeing our first Joel embiid.
Speaker 4 (51:47):
Sitan out of shape Jowell and be exciting.
Speaker 2 (51:51):
Well that I can't say whether he's going to be
in shape, but you're probably right.
Speaker 4 (51:55):
So how about so embi it again?
Speaker 3 (51:57):
Adam saying, we don't know if he's training, We don't
know if his health, we don't know, like we really
don't know anything.
Speaker 4 (52:01):
We don't know if he's alive. I think we can
surmised that he's among us. Okay, all right.
Speaker 8 (52:09):
I did see a picture of him holding a basketball
on a basketball court in the recent weeks, so we
do that as encouragement.
Speaker 4 (52:16):
That's a yes, the creating free throws or the mic
and drill.
Speaker 9 (52:20):
Yeah, it was a still picture, but he was on
a basketball court.
Speaker 2 (52:23):
Son Simon with Ben Simmons shooting with him.
Speaker 4 (52:28):
Is Ben Simmons a free agent here?
Speaker 2 (52:29):
Uh?
Speaker 8 (52:32):
Yes?
Speaker 4 (52:32):
One one is free agency start like July first or
after soon.
Speaker 8 (52:37):
Yeah, they do kind of the weird like where you
can have negotiations but can't officially sign period. But July
is when things will fully ramp up here. So we'll
get through the draft and then free agency. He'll be
right around the corner.
Speaker 4 (52:47):
The Sixers need a point gud, Do you think it's time?
Speaker 2 (52:49):
I'm telling you, I would pick him up in a second.
Just just see what's your reaction in Philadelphia would be.
I just want to see him.
Speaker 4 (52:58):
Doing the veterans them. Yeah, my lord, I wonder if
anybody assign him.
Speaker 5 (53:03):
I mean really, I mean, he hasn't even played a
whole season's worth in the last three years.
Speaker 3 (53:07):
It's amazing that they could go from well, I mean
we laugh at him now, but he was actually at
a time like an NBA all start. I mean he
was a good player. I mean yeah, yeah, he was limited.
He couldn't shoot, wouldn't shoot. But now he's just become
like the laughing stocks. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (53:24):
Just it's ridiculous. It's just silly, Micha.
Speaker 3 (53:27):
We're gonna let you roll enjoy your time in Amsterdam.
Is this just the final stop and then you fly
home from Amsterdam?
Speaker 2 (53:34):
Or what? Oh? Yeah?
Speaker 1 (53:35):
This this is this is it?
Speaker 2 (53:36):
Hey, do you guys know anybody that's a pulp fiction fan?
It is new. They eat okay, they eat mayonnaise with
their French fries. You can't they serve you. You get
the French French fries are really good, and they bring
you mayonnaise and they put it next to the French fries.
I'm like, well, what am I supposed to do with that?
And she just looked at me like, you know, well
(53:58):
that's what they do.
Speaker 8 (53:59):
Man.
Speaker 4 (54:00):
I heard so many great scenes and pulp fiction, would
you back?
Speaker 3 (54:04):
And I'm not a big violence guy, but my favorite
is when Travault and Samuel lr in the apartment with
us the sad sack drunk.
Speaker 4 (54:14):
You just you're looking already, boys, this is not going
to end well for you.
Speaker 2 (54:19):
And it did. Look at the big look at the
big brain, on Brad.
Speaker 4 (54:25):
Just just tremendous.
Speaker 3 (54:26):
I mean, all right, my man has made many great movies,
but pulp fiction is right if.
Speaker 6 (54:31):
Speaking of movies, I did watch one very sports related,
very sports broadcasting related. I watched September fifth. Oh, he
is about the nineteen seventy two Olympics and the terrorist attack.
Speaker 3 (54:41):
You know what, when I was on with Sean Brace
a couple of weeks ago, we had a long discussion
about that. Really and I had both seen it, and
I was at those Olympics. I was the re Really,
I did not know that I was. I got there
after all that happened. Oh it was hell, Yeah, that
was great. Crazy. Yeah, it's a great It's an.
Speaker 2 (54:59):
Old medal game Russia. Yeah, two or something like that.
Speaker 3 (55:04):
People that haven't seen it, is it on HBO or next,
it's on Prime Video, It's on Amazon Prime Videos.
Speaker 4 (55:09):
And it's it's good. It's an hour and a half.
It's it's really.
Speaker 3 (55:13):
It's basically following what ABC News and Sports were doing
at that moment as it was all unfolding, and it's
great stuff.
Speaker 6 (55:23):
I mean, it's absolutely everything happens in the broadcaster. It's
essentially like that's all you're getting. Yeah, it's amazing. It's
very cool, Mike. Have a great time over there, and
we'll see you next Saturday.
Speaker 4 (55:31):
Safe.
Speaker 2 (55:32):
I'll try to find I'll try to find my way
to Ben Salem next week.
Speaker 3 (55:37):
I think you can get here from the from Holy Fan.
Got to swim back over there. Yeah, I think I think. Okay, boys,
you next Saturday, all right, Mike, Mike current, everyone giving
us golf picks, giving us a couple of rants, and
doing my turn stuff which we missed last week.
Speaker 4 (55:55):
We only had it for what John I met two
minutes about. Yeah, we got two minutes until it was
I can't hear you.
Speaker 3 (55:59):
We could, we could hear him, he couldn't hear us,
But I don't know what that meant. The more important
thing was for the audience to hear Mike doing and
and he did. He picked picked Victor Hobblin at like
six to one. I mean he lost by three. I
think in the end, I don't know what JJ spawn
would have been. I don't remember what his price was
midway through, but I guarantee you his price when he
(56:20):
shot forty on the front nine on Sunday we locked.
Speaker 4 (56:24):
It was not good.
Speaker 3 (56:25):

Speaker 4 (58:12):
Guys.
Speaker 3 (58:12):
We saw him here in the city as the Sixers
started to get good as an undrafted free agent, and.
Speaker 4 (58:19):
We love TJ McConnell.
Speaker 3 (58:21):
He has just been phenomenal in these finals, off the bench,
making incredible steals in.
Speaker 4 (58:31):
The back court.
Speaker 3 (58:32):
You don't even know how he got there, driving, driving
everybody crazy because they're making a mistake because they don't
think he can make threes. So they've given him so
much space that he's getting a running start at every defender,
which are now backing up and that he pulls up
from eight feet and doesn't miss much and he sees
(58:52):
open guys, and I just love it. And it would
be so cool for him to win an NBA title
because yeah, he's a Western PA guy. Started at Duqueine,
went to Arizona, made the Sixers undrafted free agent, and
just got a big contract with Indiana.
Speaker 4 (59:08):
Maybe when ring before Joel, who would have thought I
met that?
Speaker 5 (59:12):
Remember when TJ first came here to he was just
like one of those laughing stock processed players and then
actually made a pretty decent career for himself. And then
now look where he's at. He's fifth best odds to
win finals MVP.
Speaker 4 (59:25):
Is he really?
Speaker 7 (59:26):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (59:26):
What's the number of plus eleven thousand? Wow? So I
probably wouldn't bet it, but I got it so years ago.
Speaker 3 (59:35):
Jim Linehm, who was a great point guard himself at
Saint Jose back in the day, made the Final four
a little before your time, guys, nineteen sixty one. It
was just before was a sophomore point guard at Saint Jose.
And Jimmy told me when he was with the six Ers,
and I might have said this on the show A
couple weeks ago he said he reminded him of Maury's cheeks,
(59:56):
which was really high praise. Yeah, just at how he played,
how he conducted himself, how he saw the game. And
of course he's never had an opportunity to be a
starting point guard. Yeah, how that would work playing thirty
two thirty five minutes a game. We're never gonna know,
because he's never going to get that chance in Indiana
obviously behind Aliberta Allos. Aliberta unfortunately gets hurt. Uh, but
(01:00:18):
good for him that he's carved out such a great career.
And you know one x six or is winning a
title tomorrow. It's either asaid Joe or t J McConnell.
And and we said, Jim okafor is on the Indiana
roster somewhere, not on the finals.
Speaker 4 (01:00:36):
Road he is, Yes, was he He will? He will
receive a ring right there we go.
Speaker 9 (01:00:41):
I believe he played three games for them this year, three.
Speaker 4 (01:00:44):
Games, three important game. Oh yeah, yeah. He averaged no points,
one redound and one Assistan on the board. That's all.
That's all here. He's on the scor s.
Speaker 3 (01:00:52):
Yeah, all right, so that that's uh, that's tomorrow night
at eight on ABC. And I wrote down, I think
I have this right. I can mention it before nineteen
and four in Game seven's the home team. Over time,
I can remember two road teams winning. Obviously Cleveland won
at Golden State and way back when I believe this
was Bill Russell's last ever game, the Celtics beat the
(01:01:15):
Lakers in the Fabulous Four. The other two could have
been in the fifties and the forties, or it could
have been the Fort Wayne Pistons, you know teams, the
Syracuse Nats, his squads from who knows when. But it's
the home team obviously. That's what you played for all year,
is to get to that spot where if you have
(01:01:37):
one game, you were home. And we mentioned Oklahoma City again.
This home record is just ridiculous. Counting the playoffs forty
six and eight pretty good, thirty six and six and
ten and two. But I think fact you guys were
around for all this the Phillies. The best run in
Phillies' franchise history came from two thousand and seven to
(01:01:59):
twenty eleven. Made the playoffs and seven after a long draft,
won the World Series, and eight we're back in the
World Series the next year against the Yankees. Then we're
lost to the Giants in the playoffs. Then they're playing
the Cardinals in the first round in twenty eleven. And
I want to say, the Phillies won thirty more games,
maybe some ridiculous number of games. And I'm out there,
(01:02:22):
it's a Friday, and all of a sudden, it's two
to two and Game five is going to be Saturday night.
Speaker 4 (01:02:29):
And I remember writing a story saying, you.
Speaker 3 (01:02:30):
Know what, that doesn't mean anything that they were thirty
games better, it's nine innings.
Speaker 4 (01:02:36):
It's baseball. And of course that was the one nothing game.
Speaker 3 (01:02:40):
Chris Garpenter, Roy Halliday, Ryan Howard's last at Battie Ters's Achilles.
Speaker 4 (01:02:44):
Then Hella, they give up a run in the first
inning and that was it.
Speaker 3 (01:02:48):
One nothing and the Phillies were never the same after that. No,
Ryan Howard was never the same.
Speaker 6 (01:02:55):
But you knew at the time that was like really
bad and this could be the endit. But then decades long,
a decade long kind of yeah, until drout.
Speaker 3 (01:03:03):
Until three years ago when they made the got to
the World Series with Price Arport, of that crowd, they
had midlifts and all that time, so all the all
the things about Oklahoma city.
Speaker 4 (01:03:13):
They're all true.
Speaker 3 (01:03:14):
It's it's clearly an advantage to be at home historically,
for whatever that means. But it's forty eight minutes and
you're dealing with this team that has keeps, has been
doing things for months now.
Speaker 4 (01:03:27):
Then you go, well, that didn't happen.
Speaker 3 (01:03:30):
That shouldn't happen, shouldn't happen, right, I'm being four different impossible.
Speaker 4 (01:03:34):
A couple of times if that's never happened, right, correct,
And you go, what so, Yeah, this is fascinating theater. Again.
Speaker 3 (01:03:41):
I hope everybody tunes in and they're not getting thirty
three million because it isn't Lebron James going against Steph Curry,
and I mean, I get all that.
Speaker 4 (01:03:48):
But it will be fascinating to see what happens tomorrow night.
Speaker 3 (01:03:52):
And we'll chat about a little bit next week, but
we'll be more interested in what happens Wednesday night. At
that point is everybody's eyes will turn to the NBA Draft.
All right, let's switch to baseball first before I get
to the Phillies. Anybody watching the College World Series, I
am not. I kept up, Okay, So LSU and Coastal
(01:04:14):
Carolina are playing.
Speaker 4 (01:04:15):
For the title. They're the only two teams left. It's
best of three.
Speaker 5 (01:04:17):
And whoever LSU beat before that? That heartbreak Arkansas, Arkansas. Yeah,
I feel bad for those kids in Arkansas.
Speaker 4 (01:04:22):
They had the game won. A couple of airs blunders.
Speaker 3 (01:04:25):
Yeah, one guy had a double play ball instead a
second a third, Yeah, and then the left fielder misjudges
a fly ball.
Speaker 4 (01:04:32):
LSU wins.
Speaker 3 (01:04:34):
So LSU is a slight favorite at bet Park's minus
one sixty seven. Coastal Carolina plus one twenty eight. You're thinking, well,
Coastal Carolina.
Speaker 6 (01:04:43):
Well they they're a great they're great base They won
a few years ago, twenty sixteen. There, yeah, seven years ago.
You're ready for this, she's you're ready for this. I
remember I was in college, but that wasn't a few
years ago in the nca Tournament.
Speaker 4 (01:04:56):
Like every year, LSU has been a baseball.
Speaker 3 (01:04:58):
Power for a lockdowns. Carolina has won twenty six in
a row in baseball.
Speaker 4 (01:05:04):
That is impressed. Twenty six in a row.
Speaker 3 (01:05:06):
You know what the longest streak in Major League Baseball
history is baseball twenty six in a row.
Speaker 4 (01:05:11):
You know when?
Speaker 3 (01:05:12):
That was set in nineteen sixteen by the New York Giants.
Twenty six in a row. They've now won twenty six
college games in a row. That's not the all time
college record.
Speaker 4 (01:05:22):
Yeah, college probably long it is.
Speaker 3 (01:05:23):
I want to say like thirty one, but I mean, seriously,
twenty six games baseball games that are thirty four is
the all time college record.
Speaker 4 (01:05:30):
I looked it up.
Speaker 3 (01:05:32):
But yeah, they won the twenty sixteen title. They're the
slight Dog and they have a number. They're Catcher's name.
I don't know is going to go really high in
the draft. I mean, he's a sensational player. I've watched
a little bit of it. But that starts today. It's
best of three today, tomorrow, Monday in Omah.
Speaker 4 (01:05:48):
And that looks like it's such a cool place to
watch baseball. Yeah, they built a new stadium for college baseball.
Is a lot of fun. I haven't kept tracing it
this year, but I have in previous years.
Speaker 3 (01:05:57):
And it's, yeah, just really sad to see what happened
or so you hate to see careers. And it was
kind of like the way Houston's basketball season and it's
like what just happened there? Like they you got the
game one and Arkansas was in the loser's bracket. They
were gonna and I don't really know the rules, but
(01:06:19):
LSU would have had a loss. I think that would
have been good for Coastal Carolina because maybe they would
have only they would have had to win one game
and the others would have had to win two. I
don't really know how that works, but whatever, Coastal Carolina,
L Shue, all right, Go on to the Phillies. Wheeler
pitches five inches last night. We threw almost one hundred pitches.
They took them out, and fine, timon Walker comes and
(01:06:40):
gives up two home runs.
Speaker 4 (01:06:41):
I assume they boot him off the mat. I the
game is on Apple, so I did not see it.
Speaker 3 (01:06:47):
But then the Phillies get eight and the seventh, and
they went ten to two, and and real Muto almost
runs over Castelados on the howdible is that?
Speaker 4 (01:06:56):
That was very funny?
Speaker 3 (01:06:57):
Uh So the Phillies are now States forty six and thirty.
They are a game ahead of the Mets, who have
lost seven in a row. And two weeks ago it
was the exact opposite. The Mets were hot, the Phillies
were cold. Detroit best record in baseball, then the Dodgers
and the Phillies. What do we think and they play
the Mets again tonight, and then it's on ESPN Sunday Night,
(01:07:19):
And I guarantee you all those ESPN people are rooting
for Oklahoma City at Game six, and it ain't nobody
gonna be watching Sunday Night at seven other.
Speaker 4 (01:07:28):
People here in town and in New York.
Speaker 3 (01:07:30):
Maybe that's the two markets I'm sure they would like
to have had for ABC. But yeah, it's some middle
of the season baseball game.
Speaker 4 (01:07:37):
It means nothing. Yeah, essentially, John, what are we thinking
about the Phillies? Very positive.
Speaker 6 (01:07:44):
I know the losing streak was certainly a big deal,
and anytime that happens, you do question, Okay, what's going wrong?
How you fixed what's going wrong? But also still you
you don't have to panic too much because I don't
think there were many things wrong. I think the lineup
is good actually, and they're starting to get the bottom
of the lineup, like Brandon Marsh's heating up. That was
always my biggest question. It wasn't the top of the lineup.
(01:08:04):
It wasn't those guys. Schwarber's having a great year. Trey
Turner is probably gonna have the This is the best
year he's had his affiliate. It's probably gonna be his
career year as a Philadelphia Philly. And they're all doing
this without Bryce Harper. So the top of the lineup
is good. It was always the bottom that I was
kind of worried about because Bryson Scott wasn't hitting all
that well, Brandon Marsh wasn't hitting all that well. Max
Kepler was starting to not hit well. Now all those
(01:08:25):
guys are contributing in big ways. Bryson Stott had a
huge hit last night. Brandon Marsh has had continual big hits,
and especially against the Cobbs, was able to win one
with a walk off.
Speaker 5 (01:08:33):
You know, Brandon Marsh is hitting like three fours since
since the beginning of Awesome after we all trashed it.
Speaker 6 (01:08:41):
So for the year, the Phillies have been a top
ten lineup in baseball, and even in the last two weeks,
they've been a top five lineup in baseball.
Speaker 4 (01:08:47):
So to me, that is where they are.
Speaker 6 (01:08:49):
They're like the fifth to tenth best lineup in baseball
at any given time, and that is really good. The
starting pitching is what's going to carry them. The biggest
problem they have even during the last two weeks with
Jay have won a lot. Their bullpen ranks nineteenth in eras.
But to me, that is always I say it every
single year. That is the most fixable problem you can
have as a baseball team, because there are a plethora
(01:09:13):
you'll get it. But also Washington is the best example
of this. In twenty nineteen, they had the worst bullpen
in baseball going into the All Star Break. They had
one of the best bullpens in baseball after it and
won a World Series.
Speaker 4 (01:09:24):
Yep, it can change dramatically. On the Phillies, We've seen this.
Speaker 6 (01:09:27):
Craig Kimberl was carrying them through an All Star break
a couple of years ago and then it went really
bad and the bullpen wasn't good. Last year, the bullpen
was phenomenal most of the season. I know mosing Jose
Alvarado is a big deal, but I don't even know
if they need a bat at this point. To me,
they have It's not perfect, but the top guys are
hitting really good and you paid a lot of money
(01:09:48):
for that. And also now the moves that you've made,
you've already made the move to try and fix it
with Max Kepler, I don't know if it's the right move,
but you already made the move, and you're just hoping
guys like Brandon Marsha all them stay healthy, stay good
and form.
Speaker 4 (01:10:00):
Well, now it's just get the get the bullpen on. Yep.
Speaker 6 (01:10:03):
And I think they I think they'll be able to
do that at the trade deadline. But everything is, everything's
where it needs to be, you know. Yes, if there's
there's some problems, there's some flaws, but I think as
a team in June, the twenty first of June, it
is exactly what a great championship baseball team should look like.
Speaker 4 (01:10:21):
And you may have mentioned this and I missed it,
but this is all being done without their best player. Yeah, yeah,
absolutely in their line up.
Speaker 6 (01:10:26):
The last two weeks have been one of the best
lineups in baseball and they're doing it without their best player.
Speaker 4 (01:10:30):
Yep, Kyle, where are you on the Phillies as we
head into Lake June.
Speaker 5 (01:10:35):
Yeah, I mean I've been saying it for a month now.
I'm not gonna get too high. I'm not gonna get
too low. I like where they're at right now. Like
John said, how can you not be They're in first
place in the East. Are they gonna slip again throughout
the season. Probably there's gonna be times we're gonna be frustrated,
and then you're gonna get back on that high again.
I just want them to put themselves in the best position,
as I sound like Andy Reid right now, Yes, you
(01:10:59):
time yours? Yeah, come September, in October. Injury, yeah, injuries.
It's my fault, and that is getting a bullpen arm,
because that is their glaring issue. Their bullpen's not good.
Everything else. It's the ebbs and flows to the season
of a good baseball team, where you're gonna have some downs,
you're gonna have some highs, but ultimately you know they're
gonna be there in October and they're gonna have to
(01:11:21):
get a bullpen arm if they want to prevail in October,
where they have faltered the last couple of years.
Speaker 4 (01:11:27):
So look out for that trade deadline.
Speaker 5 (01:11:30):
After that, it's, you know, lock in your seatbelt because
we're in for another postseason either disappointment or come over
the top.
Speaker 4 (01:11:38):
And Harper gets his his World Series here in Philly.
Speaker 6 (01:11:40):
Also, I know he wasn't performing well, but still they've
been doing this without a healthy or a good Aaron
Nola's supposed to be their number two guy who's getting
a lot of money, and now all of a sudden
range of Suarez looks like himself again. Even his artis
some bad starts here and there, still good Christopher Sanchez,
it's amazing now. And Zach Wheeler is one of the best,
if not the best pitcher in baseball, maybe just behind Trees.
Speaker 5 (01:11:59):
Again, they're starting rotations rime for a postseason runing make able.
Who's given them some really good and really good starts,
Like the depth in the starting rotation that that always
plays well in postseason. Again, everything like all the necessary
elements of a championship team are there. I just think
there are some things to work on, Like there there
(01:12:20):
are some falls, but again, all the necessary pieces are there.
And it's funny to me how Philadelphia looks at the
Phillies and the rest of the baseball world thinks the
Phillies are like a top five team in baseball, and
sometimes it just feels like this city is is a
little bit more down. I guess it's the expectations of
this is one of the last years to do it.
This is like it's almost mismaking it all or nothing.
(01:12:42):
I mean, your windows only go so long before you
shut you got to start re evaluating your team. I
just think this is this is again, it's exactly where
they should be. Everything is actually lining up to be
pretty good. If you're getting career years, a career year
out of Trey Turner and you're getting I think you're
getting a career year at a colleg whoever, now it's
very close. That's your Your guys who are making money
(01:13:04):
are performing extremely well, and you still have one on
the way who was playing pretty well. And I think
Kyle Schwarper has been being talked about like he's better
than Bryce Harper lately. Bryce Harper is the best player
on the Phillip still and that that is a bat
that they do need. But Bryce Harper, once you add
that into the lineup, Yeah, all of your top guys
(01:13:25):
are performing the way that they're supposed to be.
Speaker 4 (01:13:27):
Sios has been the most consistent.
Speaker 6 (01:13:31):
I don't see any big huge problems othern't Bean Bullpen.
But again, Bullpen to me seems like it can be fixed.
But I've mentioned this before.
Speaker 5 (01:13:37):
The thing I will say and I do get concerned about,
is the bottom of the lineup come playoff time. Because
you can say they're they're hot. Better pitching, yeah, better pitching.
You know, the microscope is really on your your your deficiencies.
So we can't let two or three bats get completely
silent in the playoffs like they have been the last
couple of years.
Speaker 4 (01:13:56):
Yeah, it's fascinating too.
Speaker 3 (01:13:58):
And let's think about the bullpen fris second, Let's say
in the playoffs, you're usually get most four starters, right,
and maybe maybe not even that, depending on the circumstance.
Let's say Nola comes back and he and he's back
to himself. Well, now you have five good starters. Yeah, right,
what he make? Does one of those guys become a
(01:14:18):
bullpen playoff team?
Speaker 6 (01:14:21):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:14:21):
Would Mike Abel you would definitely move. Well, he's a six.
Speaker 6 (01:14:24):
Guy with right Lizardolazard is starting to Yeah, I would.
I would question Lazardo a little bit because Suarez has
done it and he's looking phenomenal.
Speaker 4 (01:14:34):
Christopher Sanchez, I don't know.
Speaker 6 (01:14:35):
The thing is, that's a great issue to have, sure,
And now when you talk about bullpen issues as well,
one of those guys moves into the ball. Yeah, you
can use you can, you can tend to use them.
One isn't open it for a couple of innings and
then use the rest for the next three.
Speaker 4 (01:14:48):
Years whatever it is.
Speaker 5 (01:14:50):
To Dick's point, I mean two of those guys moved
to the bullpen because you're only gonna have four starters
tops in the playoffs for the most part. Yeah, Mick
abel and and one of them Lefty's are going to.
Speaker 4 (01:15:01):
Move to the bullpen'd.
Speaker 3 (01:15:02):
I mean that's assuming obviously all are healthy, which is
a big assumption in this world. But yeah, I mean
you're not gonna Nola, if he's back to being himself,
is going to be one.
Speaker 4 (01:15:11):
Of your four eyes. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:15:12):
Yeah, And I think Ranger is probably gonna have to
be one of your guys as well. So you're looking
at Lazada or Sanchez.
Speaker 4 (01:15:19):
Sanchez's pitching, He's starting for me. I love that the idea.
Love He's been sensational. Again. It is a great, a
great problem to have. So, yeah, we're gonna get to
John's baseball pick. I mean, that's a championship problem to have.
It is a championship problem, precisely. Uh, John, We're gonna
get to your baseball picks after the break. But I
wanted to throw this out everybody. I think I mentioned
at the.
Speaker 3 (01:15:38):
Top of the show, but right before we went on
the air, I was over at the kiosk. Here make
it a little futures bet, futures baseball bet, so everybody
knows I'm from Baltimore and PAUSEI Orioles fan growing up.
I mean I went to a maiden games. I mean
I was a fan before I got into the business.
So the last two years they won one hundred and
(01:16:00):
ninety plus games and just didn't win a playoff game.
Stunk to joint out at the best young team in baseball.
Looked like they were going to be a contender forever. Well,
they start off the season so bad that the manager
gets fired.
Speaker 4 (01:16:14):
I mean they were horrible. At one point they were
nineteen and thirty six. But little by little, guys are
starting to get healthy.
Speaker 3 (01:16:22):
We're still waiting on the young starting pitchers which have
been out the entire year, Rodriguez and Bradish and they
have other players that haven't had a chance to play
a lot. Well, I've been watching them over the over
the last month. They're fourteen and six in the last twenty.
They went to New York last night beat the He
(01:16:45):
came from behind to beat the Yankees, which are slumping
and right now, the Orioles are six let me get
this right, six six games out.
Speaker 4 (01:16:55):
Of the wild card in the American League.
Speaker 3 (01:16:58):
And the teams in front of them what nobody would
describe as like the twenty seven Yankees or even the
twenty twenty five Yankees.
Speaker 4 (01:17:08):
They ain't that good. So I went in and looked
at the price.
Speaker 3 (01:17:12):
There are one hundred and fifty to one to win
the American League and two hundred and fifty.
Speaker 4 (01:17:17):
To one to win the World Series. So I got
a lot of the.
Speaker 3 (01:17:20):
American League and a little bit of the World Series
at one fifty and two fifty. And we'll be following
on this show every love it. We'll be following the
Orioles progress.
Speaker 4 (01:17:32):
But yeah, you could.
Speaker 3 (01:17:33):
And last night and I watched the whole game was
on MLB. I said, I'm thinking, I was thinking about this.
Let me watch this team play. What am I seeing?
What's the body like? What's everybody doing? As like I said, John,
I said, this team before the show started. I mean, hey,
I like the position.
Speaker 4 (01:17:49):
Guys are good. Rushiman didn't play last night. He's hurt.
Henderson came off the bench last night.
Speaker 3 (01:17:54):
Jackson Holidays everything they thought he was gonna be He
looking like a really good young Player's only twenty one.
He looked like he's twelve. If they get into the
playoffs and they have a late lead. To me, they
have the best set up closer combination of Baseball and Cano.
Speaker 5 (01:18:14):
And my Man Batista and Baltista was an issue last year,
right because he got hurt.
Speaker 4 (01:18:18):
He was out the whole year. Yeah, he got hurt
at the end of two years ago. He missed.
Speaker 3 (01:18:22):
Every the year they won one hundred games. He missed
the entire season. So they He's facing.
Speaker 4 (01:18:27):
Aaron Judge in the bottom of the night last night.
It's one out.
Speaker 3 (01:18:32):
Fortunately for the Orioles, the first guy didn't get on.
You know, want Judge up there with a jest to
tie the game. Well, he throws one hundred mile in
our fastball by Aaron Judge to strike him out. And
I'm thinking to myself, who's hitting this guy, And the
answer is nobody. He's unhittable. He's the best closer in baseball.
(01:18:53):
So if they can find a way to get back
in this thing, get themselves into wild card, that is
a dangerous squad.
Speaker 4 (01:19:00):
I got them at one fifty two fifty up first,
they got to get.
Speaker 3 (01:19:03):
In it, which is a long shot, but six games
with eighty seven to go is not.
Speaker 4 (01:19:09):
A huge number.
Speaker 5 (01:19:10):
They're to be honest, you you you placed that that too,
because they went out and got Gregory Soto.
Speaker 6 (01:19:16):
But their their record doesn't I think show what they
really I think their bad a team in their record,
and they're starting to show yes. So some of their
top hitters like Gunnar Henderson and Natalie Rutchman are starting
to hit really well in the muff of June, and
they're getting this like resurgence all of a sudden out
of Charlie Morton. They've got some really good games out
of so that it's it's all moving in a direction
of pitching was a big problem, and now they seems
(01:19:37):
like they're getting pitching from from places that I don't
think they really expected. And now the reason why they
were supposed to be good is now why they're playing well.
Speaker 4 (01:19:45):
In the line and the other thing to convince me
to do this beyond the price.
Speaker 3 (01:19:48):
It's similar to why I like the Pacers last week
at four to one, even though they're not necessarily.
Speaker 4 (01:19:52):
The best team. They were they were in Tampa Bay
the other night, but Tampa's playing well.
Speaker 3 (01:19:57):
They let Tampa eight nothing after the third inning and
lost the game like twelve to eight.
Speaker 4 (01:20:03):
And they came back the next day at a one.
That told me a lot. And then they go to
New York and win.
Speaker 3 (01:20:09):
So anyway, we'll be following that. I have my tickets safely,
they'll be they'll be going into a safe place, and
we hope sometime in October we can turn them back
into the kiosk over here.
Speaker 4 (01:20:21):
Yeah, and you can frame those tickets and that'd be great.
It will be Uh, let's sput it this way. I
have one here for let's see what we got here.
Fifteen dollars potential payout two and sixty five. My conbet.
I love it and I don't have one. I don't
have one of them. I love it I have. I
(01:20:43):
will be rooting for Baltimore.
Speaker 3 (01:20:45):
Well yeah, everybody. Everybody goes to Chicky and Pizez over
and over again. Yeah, for quite a while. Food for
every Absolutely. If that baby comes comes through, be something
for us to root for it. Uh, through the through
the summer, told them, because we're done with hoops after
this week.
Speaker 4 (01:21:06):
Hockey, Congratulations to the Florida Panthers. Okay, it's almost all
baseball all the time.
Speaker 3 (01:21:11):
It'll be all baseball, a draft, a little draft, talktle
NBA draft, and then all baseball all the time, A
lot of baseball. And next week will be about what
two months from the beginning of the NFL regular season.
Speaker 5 (01:21:22):
And a lot of speculation, a lot of baseball and
THENTO speculators.
Speaker 6 (01:21:26):
When we're about sixty something days away, I think from
the college football.
Speaker 4 (01:21:29):
Season, what could be better? Again?
Speaker 3 (01:21:32):
Yeah, well, have Penn State ranked in the top five somewhere?
John right, any top three, top three start the preseason.
I got their entire backfield back on probably a ten
billion dollars backfield these days, I assume a quarterback Broun.
It's quite a bit of money.
Speaker 4 (01:21:47):
Yeah, they don't. They don't.
Speaker 3 (01:21:49):
It's not like a professional sports. They don't actually list salaries.
But I suspect all these guys got a substantial you
can project good for the Yeah, I think football at
Penn State's getting I think they they're getting about eighty
five percent of the of the twenty million plus nil money.
Speaker 4 (01:22:07):
So I mean you can do the math. Yeah, how
much it costs.
Speaker 3 (01:22:10):
And they're not the only ones obviously, Ohio State and
these other squads are spending a lot of money too.
We got half an hour ago. We'll be back with
John's baseball picks sports today. How many you got for us?
Speaker 4 (01:22:21):
I got about I'm still over a couple, but I
would say four or five, oh oh five picks today.
I might have some picks. Big day for John Chansy, Yeah,
big day.
Speaker 3 (01:22:29):

Speaker 4 (01:24:26):
John has been working hard. I think on baseball games
for today that he is gonna recommend.
Speaker 2 (01:24:33):
What do you got?
Speaker 6 (01:24:34):
So I'm gonna start off with I'm gonna take the Phillies.
I think they do take game number two against the Mets.
Really good spot here when they're playing great baseball, lineup,
sitting well, starting pitching has just been above and above
and beyond good, and they.
Speaker 4 (01:24:47):
Get a good pitching matchup.
Speaker 6 (01:24:48):
You know, Canning has been great for the Mets, but
Nick Abele also been putting in some really good innings
as well. You're getting the Phillies on a short money line.
They've been the better team as of late. For the
past two weeks, the Phillies have been one of the
best lineups in baseball. I think they continue that here
against Griffin Canning. So I'm gonna go with the Phillies
for my first bet.
Speaker 4 (01:25:05):
I will go.
Speaker 6 (01:25:07):
Then the Baltimore Orioles. It's just it's a struggling Yankees team.
They're getting a little bit better. They probably have the
better pitching matchup here too, with Schmid over Eflyn Evelyn
four point eight one ERA nothing too spectacular, But the
Orioles on up is hitting well, and I think it
is getting to the point where you could start looking
at some big plus money numbers with the Orioles because
(01:25:29):
they haven't been playing well this season, so you're gonna
get them a pretty good prices. I think it's worth
the shot. At plus one forty for the Orioles to
take another game against the New York Yankees. Go now,
I'm gonna pick on some of the worst lineups in baseball.
The first one I'm gonna pick on a little bit
is the Pittsburgh Pirates. Now you're getting that their favorite
(01:25:50):
minus one fifteen over the Texas Rangers. But you would go, why,
Pirates are definitely much worse than Texas Texas thirty seven
to thirty nine, But they're not Pittsburgh Pirates. Bad I
was because Rocker is on the mound for Texas, highly
touted prospect, not pitching so well though this season seven
point three to one RA. But the good thing is
you're going up against the Pittsburgh Pirates over the last
(01:26:14):
two weeks. The Pittsburgh Pirates, which by the way, one
hundred is about average for this number, it's called weight
runs created plus. It's the weighted runs created plus, so
WRC plus. Probably see those numbers at the ballpark. Now
one hundred's average. Pittsburgh is at sixty three, which puts
them dead last in Major League Baseball. For the past
(01:26:36):
two weeks, they have been dreadful at the plate, so
it's an opportunity here. Yes, the number is indicating Pittsburgh
probably a bit of a pitching advantage. They have Mitch
Keller in the mount, but he's one to nine with
a four point zero eight e RA. We have seen
with schemes it doesn't matter how well you pitch. Pittsburgh
has to hit, and they can't hit anybody. So I
(01:26:56):
really like that number. At minus one oh five, I'm
gonna go with this one. Moved a little bit just now,
but it looks like the Houston Astros are gonna be
minus one six over at bet Parks.
Speaker 4 (01:27:06):
Astros.
Speaker 6 (01:27:07):
They're pitching very well, they're hitting pretty well two yeah
third right now in ruts created plus over the last
two weeks, so Houston's pretty much the full package at
this point.
Speaker 4 (01:27:17):
I think they have a good pitching matchup as well.
Speaker 6 (01:27:19):
So I'm gonna take the Houston Astros over the Angels
at plus again at minus one oh six, and the
last time I'm gonna go with Cleveland's not been hitting
all that well.
Speaker 4 (01:27:28):
The Athletics are actually a little bit better than them
at the moment.
Speaker 6 (01:27:32):
The record doesn't indicate it, but at the moment the
last couple of weeks, it looks like the Athletics are
putting together a little bit more run production, even pitching
a little bit better than Cleveland. So I like the
matchup here. Athletics. They're at home. I don't know what
that means. There is no home field advantages. They're fifteen
to twenty five at home I've known, and they're playing somewhere, yeah,
some a little league field in Sacramento, I think, or
(01:27:52):
something like that. But the pitching matchup isn't all that
much of an advantage for Cleveland. Again, the lineups hitting
better than Cleveland at this point, Cleveland actually has been
pretty dreadful too. I mentioned the Pittsburgh's at the bottom
along with him at the bottom. Twenty eighth is Cleveland,
twenty ninth is the Los Angeles Angels. So Cleveland's starting
to struggle a little bit, and I think a plus
(01:28:13):
one of five numbers pretty good.
Speaker 4 (01:28:14):
Kyle.
Speaker 3 (01:28:14):
Before we get any picture you might have, I want
to point this up, Paul Schemes, this is this is
actually insane. Uh is s pitched one hundred and two innings,
is giving up sixty three hits, It struck out one
hundred and six walk twenty seven.
Speaker 4 (01:28:33):
His era is one eighty five. He's four and six.
That's impossible to do. So the Pirates lineup, you're saying
is not that great? What how is that even possible?
And your four and six? I mean he could win
to cy Young with a hundred record. I didn't Jacob
de Grum do that one year. Wasn't he like ten
(01:28:54):
and eleven or something? But he was on some pretty
bad teams. Yeah, that could have Grum did that.
Speaker 6 (01:28:59):
With the Mets, it's been a few times because they're
the win loss number has been debated at times, and
I think it was Jacob de Grom where they it
was really debated. Is that a number to even include
discussion like side games?
Speaker 4 (01:29:11):
Worst?
Speaker 5 (01:29:12):
I don't have any games. I do have a prop
in the Phillies game. We love you know, I'm I'm
I'm going for a long shot here Bryson Stott to hit.
Speaker 4 (01:29:20):
A home run today. You know he's hitting well, he
got getting well. Just missed an hr last night, he
just missed one. Debate last night. He's plus seven hundred.
Speaker 5 (01:29:29):
He hit one in the Marlin series, missed one by
a couple of feet least night.
Speaker 4 (01:29:32):
I think he's he's locked in.
Speaker 5 (01:29:34):
Five for his last twelve and going against the writing
and Griffin Canning, who is, as John mentioned, has been
stable in that metsal rotation, but it has been slipping
as the year has gone on. Four oh ninety ra
in May, he's up to five seven, four three stars
in June. Give me Bryson Stott to hit one out
(01:29:55):
of the park today plus seven hundred. You know, it's
seeing a little bit more of power.
Speaker 4 (01:29:58):
When I watch his wing.
Speaker 3 (01:30:00):
He's always had a beautiful swing. I mean, I'd like
his swing, but it's just for some reason.
Speaker 4 (01:30:05):
Yeah, he just well, you know, he hasn't happened for pitcher.
Speaker 2 (01:30:12):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:30:12):
I think it's four and a half pitches peron. He's
eating up as a lot of players do in baseball.
So it's a long shot, but I'm I'm here for it.
Speaker 6 (01:30:20):
Yeah, the Mets pitching is really the biggest problem they have.
I mean, lineup's a big deal as well. But in
the last five they're starting e r has been really
bad in this losing street. Yeah, they they gave they
gave up in the last five games. Gave up nine runs,
five runs, five runs, seven runs, ten runs, which was
last So yeah, it's a it's a lot of runs
at the game.
Speaker 4 (01:30:38):
That's a problem, all right, Sean, it's our time. We saved.
We always saved the best for a last.
Speaker 3 (01:30:45):
So all of a sudden, the Sixers went from maybe
not even having a draft pick right if if the
lottery had played out poorly, to having number three in
the draft. Edgecumbe, we talked about him a little bit
at the top of the show.
Speaker 4 (01:31:04):
Where is he? I know he only played one year, Repellor.
Where is he from? What is his background? What do
we know about this guy?
Speaker 8 (01:31:10):
I believe he's a California kid. I know he's been
sort of in the mix. Is one of these like
not generational prospects, but a guy that's been labeled an
NBA player since he was like in his early middle
school days. Like there's a pretty cool clip floating around
right now of him playing against Justin Edwards on the
Coe's currently on the Sixers, back when they were in
high school together and Edwards was the number one recruit
(01:31:30):
in his class and a guy. So there's a pretty
fun back and forth that shows each of them score
like twenty five plus points in the game, and we're
pretty competitive going at each other.
Speaker 9 (01:31:38):
Edgecumb like he checks all the boxes.
Speaker 8 (01:31:39):
As far as a competitor, a guy that I think
defensively is going to make a pretty interesting pairing with
the guard mix that they do have. So it does
feel like it's pretty conclusive that that's gonna be the selection.
If they stick at three, I still think they're gonna
make every attempt to move down if they can.
Speaker 4 (01:31:54):
So he's in the NBA, he's a two three or
he's strictly a what do we say?
Speaker 8 (01:32:00):
He can definitely guard up like you can guard guys
bigger than him, for sure. I wish he was a
couple inches bigger, so he could really fall into like
that wing arc type. But he certainly will not back down.
The guys that are bigger than I'm in head had
some success with them.
Speaker 3 (01:32:11):
Give us an athlete comparison, somebody in the NBA. We're
talking Anthony Edwards athletic ability here.
Speaker 8 (01:32:18):
You can certainly squint and see some Anthony Edwards in them.
I think like Victor Oladipo is probably one that I
would say is a bit more safer an accurate who
that's also not a bad outcome. If that's the case.
There's a little bit of Dwayne Wade love that people
will throw his way as well. Purely speaking on like
his movement. You certainly see Anthony Edwards influence here and
just the way that he can explode. The biggest like concern,
(01:32:40):
I would say, what would limit like him getting to
his ceiling? The handle is a little bit questionable to me,
and I do think that like that's the number one
thing that needs to improve. He's going to take this
like All Star leap, which I'm not ruling out, and
definitely think that's a possibility there.
Speaker 3 (01:32:52):
Sure, Yeah, it's interesting that sixers, you know, and again
it's so hard to even squint at this point and
see what this is going down. You know, Paul George
being where he is in his career, he certainly was
a guy that could beat you off the bounce for
quite a long time. I don't know, look after last season,
it's hard to know what exactly he is. MAXI obviously
can beat.
Speaker 4 (01:33:11):
Anybody off the bunt. I means he can finish as
well as anybody in the league.
Speaker 2 (01:33:15):
But so.
Speaker 3 (01:33:18):
When you watch his handle, is it that he doesn't
handle it a lot or he just doesn't look smooth
doing it Seawan as you're watching tape.
Speaker 8 (01:33:25):
Yeah, I would say, doesn't look smooth is a better way, Like,
I don't think he's probably ever going to be a
guy where when it's trying to make a breakup press
in the last minute of a game, that you're really
going to trust him being the guy to do it,
or have the ball in his hands, he's still good
enough to attack it downhill, get to the rim, and
there were flashes where the handle looked totally fine. Honestly,
when you dive into some of his Olympic tape where
he represented the Bahamas, which was on a team with
(01:33:47):
Buddy Heeled, Eric Gordon DeAndre Ayton, like a pretty legitimate squad, there,
you see a lot more of his like creation and
taking guys in a way that he didn't really showcase
at Baylor. So there is a world where there's more
that he hasn't fully showed off yet. But there were
definitely some during this season at Baylor where it looked
a bit inconsistent or he was a little bit just
not confident in himself off the dribble and.
Speaker 4 (01:34:06):
He and Mizell nineteen eighteen.
Speaker 9 (01:34:09):
Nineteen nineteen.
Speaker 6 (01:34:10):
Yeah, that's where I can kind of rely on the
Sixers because it feels like with McCain and Maxi and
some of the draft picks they've been able to identify. Okay,
maybe they're not doing this in college, but it doesn't
mean they can't.
Speaker 4 (01:34:20):
Sure, So VJ.
Speaker 6 (01:34:22):
Edgecomb kind of like the way a players used in
college maybe isn't necessarily the best way to use them.
It's just how they have to be used in that
system at that time, with the kind of players that
they have around them. So I think what you're saying, Benard,
does give me some hope for VJ. Edgecomb. If they
are able to get them, they could probably identify some things. Yeah,
maybe he didn't do it in Baylor, but he's certainly capable.
So it seems like he's capable of doing some of
(01:34:43):
these things, just needs to prove it a little bit more.
Speaker 5 (01:34:45):
And it's it's not a bad thing to have a
plethora of athletic guards surrounding joellem Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:34:50):
Either definitely turned it turns twenty on July thirties. Okay, Yes,
he's old for a fresh windows closing.
Speaker 8 (01:34:57):
Yeah, And I will say, like for all all the
critiques that we can certainly throw at the six Ers
talent evaluation and identification in recent years, has been really
a strength since Daryl Morey took over it, and one
of the things that he certainly has leaned on is
like the blue chip type prospects, the guys that come
in with high pedigree for their entire life. Both with
Maxie and McCain, it was guys who throughout their basketball
careers were more well regarded than was kind of the
(01:35:19):
case at their draft point. There that both those guys
were sort of expected to take large leaps than happened.
It's a little bit similar with VJ that there was
like a case to be made before Cooper flag became
the Cooper flag that we know that he was going
to be right in that same kind of number one
pick range. So I do think more it will be
all over it.
Speaker 3 (01:35:35):
So at Edgecombe, as Sean just said, born in the Bahamas,
played high school at Long Island Lutheran, which is obviously
in New York, and then at a place called the
Victory International Institute West Palm Beach, Florida.
Speaker 4 (01:35:50):
I don't know exactly much about that.
Speaker 3 (01:35:52):
Squad, but yeah, he's been one of those guys that's
been talked about four years.
Speaker 4 (01:35:58):
Played for good college school, which is good too, right,
He came to.
Speaker 3 (01:36:02):
The US and in ninth grade obviously to get seen
and get the get to a college spot, and.
Speaker 4 (01:36:06):
Then obviously the NBA people knew about him.
Speaker 3 (01:36:11):
But yeah, that's looking at senior in high school seventeen
three six rebounds for assist, two steals.
Speaker 4 (01:36:19):
When you're watching again, Sure, I haven't seen it.
Speaker 3 (01:36:21):
I mean I saw some of them this year, but
be honest, when I was at the paper, I knew
all these guys cold because I needed to do it.
Speaker 4 (01:36:27):
But now I'm more just running around to big ten,
which I need to know about. What does does he
see the game?
Speaker 3 (01:36:33):
Does he again, he's nineteen about to turn twenty. Does
he have a feel for the game, understanding of what
needs to happen when you watch him pluck?
Speaker 9 (01:36:41):
Yeah, I think he does for sure.
Speaker 8 (01:36:43):
I will say, like one sort of critique that I
found myself sort of judging about him throughout the season,
is it it feels like it hasn't quite clicked in
his head.
Speaker 9 (01:36:50):
How good that he truly is?
Speaker 8 (01:36:52):
Like I think he could have taken over at baylorir
of Wayne ways that he sort of didn't was a
bit too passive and he had his stretches where he
looked unbelievable, But I only he played as like in
attack mode is when he reaches his peak and fully
puts it together, will there. Defensively, he one hundred percent
sees the game and feels the game like his instincts.
Speaker 9 (01:37:09):
Those steals, he's gonna be a.
Speaker 8 (01:37:10):
Problem in the half court of generating turnovers getting out
in transition.
Speaker 9 (01:37:13):
He's pretty good on the fast break attack as well.
Speaker 8 (01:37:16):
So offensively he's probably not quite up to the top
end processing speed just yet. But defensively, I think he's
there and I am confident it will get there overall.
Speaker 4 (01:37:24):
Yeah, and for I was just looking back at his recruiting.
This is fascinating and again from the Bahamas, so people
probably hadn't seen a lot of them.
Speaker 3 (01:37:31):
He was originally made at one hundred and fifty third
at twenty four to seven Sports, moved up to the
top five following his performance in the Adidas Travel Circuit
as a junior in high school.
Speaker 4 (01:37:41):
Wow, and I'm sure and was offered by, among others.
Speaker 3 (01:37:45):
Duke in Kentucky before he chose bail or sit to
and he would have been that would have been Cooper
Flagg's class. So the flag flag actually reclassified him off
for another year.
Speaker 4 (01:37:58):
I mean Flag has only just turned eight.
Speaker 9 (01:38:00):
T Yeah, he should be a high school senior right now.
Speaker 4 (01:38:02):
Right Jesus, your imagine putting that in perspective is w Yeah,
that's crazy.
Speaker 3 (01:38:08):
So that's that's the other question I have as we're
heading toward toward Weinstein. And obviously there's no mystery about
what Dallas is gonna do, and that general manager's got
to be the luckiest guy on earth. Everybody was vilifying
him for the Dodget's trade and now it gets who knows.
Speaker 4 (01:38:27):
How good Cooper Flag is gonna be?
Speaker 3 (01:38:30):
Sean, give me a comparison to guys in the league,
and what's this guy's ceiling as you're watching.
Speaker 8 (01:38:36):
For Cooper Flagg or for VJ. For Cooper Flag, I
think Jason Tatum's the closest to me. I think their
games are slightly different, but the thing that I think
applies to both is they can kind of fit on
any team. And Cooper Flag is going to be a
more dominant defensive player than we see with Tatum. There's
a lot more of kind of the From day one,
I think he's going to impact the games like a
(01:38:56):
true anchor of a defense, some of his weak side
protection and shot blocking, his really absurd stuff. So Tatum
is the closest that I've gotten. There's some Scottie Pippen
in there that I see with him for sure. If
you're gonna throw one critique, it's I do see a
world where he maybe never grows into like the clear
cut number one option in a half court setting.
Speaker 9 (01:39:13):
But that's not gonna sell his impact short.
Speaker 8 (01:39:15):
He's gonna be an incredible basketball player, making winning plays
on every team that he's on. So somewhere between Jason
Tatum and Scottie Pippen would kind of be my comparison,
even though I think some people would say that's selling
him short.
Speaker 4 (01:39:25):
Yeah, I couldn't couldn't agree more.
Speaker 3 (01:39:27):
He should say, Well, every time I watched him play,
and I and and really what struck me was the
defense park.
Speaker 4 (01:39:32):
Could you imagine if san Antonio had won that top pick,
Oh my god, if he's who scores on that team,
I mean.
Speaker 5 (01:39:44):
Castle, I know Daron Fox would probably average twenty assists
a game, but.
Speaker 4 (01:39:50):
Uh, that would be shared a lot of dunks, and yeah,
very hard to defend.
Speaker 3 (01:39:54):
But yeah, it's fascinating to see how good he's gonna be. Yeah,
a lot of get hyped and it's it's ridiculous. But
all you had to do was watch us get play, yeah,
and you didn't have to watch them a lot to understand.
And I'd seen him before, Duke. I mean, I'd seen
high school tape, I'd seen different things, and I actually
(01:40:14):
looked up toward the end of last college season. I
looked up his last high school season where he was
on the same team with Derrek Queen, Lay McNeely from Yukon.
What's the guy from Georgia who was on the team,
Sean acel All and they went like thirty three and
(01:40:36):
oh and they and they were beating teams by like
eighty sounds right, not twenty, not thirty eighty.
Speaker 5 (01:40:43):
I mean, you just think of Derek Queen, the Cooper flag,
that the length and athleticism just from those two alone.
Speaker 4 (01:40:49):
Jeez, how do you cover that? Sean any other.
Speaker 3 (01:40:52):
Player beyond the obvious guys we generally know who's going three, four, five, six,
we don't know in necessarily the order of what's happened.
Is there somebody out there as you're following this that's
being undervalued that potentially somebody's gonna get a steal here,
somebody's gonna get Yannis or somebody late later in the draft.
Speaker 4 (01:41:14):
Does that person exists in this draft?
Speaker 8 (01:41:16):
Yeah, A guy I haven't seen get as much buzz
as I think he deserves is right here in Philadelphia
with Rashier Fleming the Saint Joe's Kid. I see like
such a clear path to this guy being like as
true of a power for it as exists in today's NBA.
And I think like the critiques of him or is
something that I think is a strength, which is he's
not gonna take guys off the dribble, He's not gonna
do too much with the ball. I find it like
(01:41:36):
comforting that he knows exactly who is a basketball player.
The shot release is super quick, he is a high
level three point shooter, and he's a monster defensively, so
he seems like he's slated to go somewhere in like
the early twenty ish range. I think he should absolutely
be a lottery pick, and whatever team walks away with
him is going to be quite satisfied with him being
a key part of their front court for the next decade.
Speaker 4 (01:41:56):
I'm gonna throw out.
Speaker 3 (01:41:58):
One here in the history of Penn State basketball, there
has never been a player drafted in the first round,
which tells you something about the history State basketball, but
I'm just pointing that out. They have a center from
this year's team from Switzerland kids named a seven footer,
ridiculous athlete, Janick Conan Niederes.
Speaker 4 (01:42:21):
He wasn't even on a draft board at all, Sean,
And I know you know this.
Speaker 3 (01:42:28):
He went to the G League tryout, he wasn't invited
to the Big Combine, the G League Combine, and he
killed everybody to the point where, wait a second, you
know this guy might actually be drafted, and he has
another year he could have come back to college, and
they offered him a ton of money at Penn State
to come back, and then he went to the regular
combine in Chicago and did very well to the point
(01:42:51):
where he is right now. He's mostly looked at his
early second round Sean, Is there any chance we finally
have a Penn State player in the first round?
Speaker 4 (01:43:02):
Could my man Yanick sneak it? Yeah? I mean I won't.
Speaker 8 (01:43:04):
I'm not gonna lie and say like I'm super locked
into his case specifically here. But it just takes one team,
is what I would say, and I think what probably
helps his case more so than ever before, is that,
like there's a lot of teams and players in particular
that are kind of controlling their story or where they
land and what draft slot. More so than ever that
I think there's guys such as in this case, that
(01:43:26):
those that are just looking for any opportunity or want
a chance to prove themselves are kind of getting those
chances at a higher rate. So I think there could
be a case where this is an opportunity where that
plays itself out.
Speaker 9 (01:43:36):
We'll be rooting for the kid for sure.
Speaker 4 (01:43:38):
Yeah, great kid.
Speaker 3 (01:43:40):
Obviously I got to know him in his one year
at Penn State. He was at Northern Illinois, and if
the Penn State did a phenomenal job of recruiting because
he he was essentially a non factor there. Great shot blocker,
really skilled, highly skilled, phenomenal athlete, finishes as a good passer,
you wouldn't have necessarily noticed. But he's one of these
(01:44:02):
guys that potentially, and it's always the word potentially, potentially
has a chance in a league where big men are
kind of lost these days. I would my best analogy,
and he's better offensively, would be Derek Lovey. He's got
some of that in as an athlete, and obviously anybody
would take that.
Speaker 4 (01:44:23):
But I was reading this is just fascinating me.
Speaker 3 (01:44:26):
I was reading these things from NBA scouts when he started,
they started seeing him, and they're going, we.
Speaker 4 (01:44:31):
Didn't know who he was. So wait a second. He
played in the big Tent? What are you doing? Look?
Did I expect him to be in this draft? I
really didn't.
Speaker 3 (01:44:40):
I thought he could have used another year, but apparently
just he played great toward the end of the season.
Speaker 4 (01:44:44):
But is it that your job to go and guys
in the big tent? It actually at a college like
Penn State School, it's hard to get to state college.
Speaker 3 (01:44:56):
Well, you could get to Detroit, to Michigan or to
Chicago or the question this is not that hard.
Speaker 1 (01:45:02):
But is that?
Speaker 5 (01:45:03):
What Mike Kerrn was doing out in Switzerland was scoping
out his hometown and that's exactly seeing his upbringing safety
no question, real quick before we get out of here, too.
Talked about Paul Schemes four and six, the year I
was talking about with de Gram. He was back to
back cy young winger winner, but the one specifically twenty
eighteen was ten and nine with a one to seven
(01:45:26):
R and he got to SIONG and he got the
Sion ten and nine.
Speaker 3 (01:45:30):
I think there was a picture for seattle To who
had similar numbers one year. His name is Escaping, a
great pitcher and same thing. It's just a different world.
I never would have had a chance back in the
day because there was always flints and losses. I had
fun two hours six years on the clock for Wednesday,
or they'll be on the clock at some point.
Speaker 4 (01:45:48):
Game seven can't wait for tomorrow night. Be fascinating.
Speaker 3 (01:45:51):
