Speaker 1 (00:00):
Number one on your car radio preset hand the new
and improved Diehard Radio app WDAS and WD two seven
three D Philadelphia is Fox Sports Radio the Gambler, getting
you ready for all of the weekend. Zach shit, it's
sports here, there and everywhere with Dick Girardi and Mike
Kern Live in the Parks Casino Sports boad.
Speaker 2 (00:28):
Point.
Speaker 3 (00:29):
I just don't think that he's viewed as much as
we like him and think how good he is here
in Philadelphia.
Speaker 2 (00:33):
And I think that's just the fact.
Speaker 3 (00:34):
I mean, it's not something that us Philadelphia fans, I
think most of us, I think I speak for the
majority think is true.
Speaker 2 (00:40):
We know that he is a really good quarterback.
Speaker 3 (00:41):
But I just think that the national perspective is, well,
you know, Saquon helped them out a lot. You know,
how can he throw the football? You know when it
gets in clutch time situations. You know the you know
was in the in the last couple of minutes this season.
So uh, you know, we'll see. But I agree with you,
Mike about Zach Bond and that was the biggest surprise
to me.
Speaker 2 (00:56):
But he had a gree year.
Speaker 3 (00:57):
He did, and it's no surprise that he was a
big part of the defense. But I mean he came
out of nowhere and that's great. But I think consistency
is gonna be a big part. We'll see how he
does this year. But I thought that was a big surprise.
Hi mean, Bam was great, don't get me wrong. But
we'll see how he does this year.
Speaker 2 (01:08):
He went from unknown to twenty six. That's a that's
a big job. He went from a non starter.
Speaker 4 (01:13):
Yeah, nobody, nobody knew his name at this time except
and by the way, former Eagle.
Speaker 5 (01:19):
So he had a real good year he did. Yeah, absolutely,
it was a good goodness. The perception around the NFL,
and again rightly or wrong is if you put, if
you have to put the ball, and Jaalen hurts his
hands like some quarterbacks have to. You know, the guy
in Cincinnati whatever, he's a different kind of quarterback. They
got him Cincinnati. His name Joe Joe Burrow. I love
(01:42):
you the guy and well everybody that everybody knows who
they are. They've got one of the better tight ends
in football. Even though he's heard a lot. Last year
they had the best running back or second whatever him
or the guy.
Speaker 2 (01:54):
Uh, he was.
Speaker 5 (01:55):
The best Okay, yeah, the other guy that was Henry, right,
and forget all that they had the best defense in football.
The Super Bowl was not won by Jalen's I got
racis well look with yet no, no, no, no, no, no.
They won because it was thirty four to nothing in
the middle of the third quarter and the defense had
created two touchdowns that put the game away.
Speaker 2 (02:17):
And I'm not knocking with the offense.
Speaker 5 (02:18):
The offense did exactly what it had to do, and
that was the beauty of their team that the Eagles said, hey,
we can do this and we can win like this,
and people in Philadelphia're like, oh, no, no, no, you're
winning sixteen to seventeen. And it would have been seventeen
to seventeen if the quarterback had not got hurt against
the Commanders. So anyway, I mean, and we in Philadelphia,
of course, we're going to take that personally. Yeah, you
(02:41):
can't talk about Bryce Harper. You can't talk I get it,
you're designated here, might not win the MVP this year
when maybe he should.
Speaker 2 (02:49):
Now, maybe they'll surprise me and maybe he will.
Speaker 5 (02:51):
I've seen poles again, this is a lot of this
is ESPN, and they do I've seen one with schwarbur
was like sixth, and I'm like, I'm thinking, wait a minute, wait,
wait a minute, like who give me five better?
Speaker 2 (03:02):
You know? But they do and we we take it personal.
Speaker 4 (03:06):
Yes, anyway, the top from twenty to eleven will be
out next week and then the fuck you think.
Speaker 2 (03:14):
Top five?
Speaker 4 (03:15):
I would think, right, I mean somewhere, I mean looks
who's going to be number one?
Speaker 5 (03:20):
Mahomes I assume will be number one? Yeah, I mean
he wasn't great. I think he was great last Year'll
prove it on him to where he was. They won
fifteen games, So you got my home and they got
back to the super Bowl, right, exactly.
Speaker 4 (03:30):
Got Mahomes, You got Josh Allen left, he got Burrow.
I haven't seen Lamar Lamar Jamar haven't do him yet.
Speaker 2 (03:39):
I haven't seen. Uh, I don't. I don't think the
Chargers quarterback has been listened.
Speaker 5 (03:43):
Oh no, no, no, he might not make it because again,
if this is a regular season thing, which I think
it is, Mahomes doesn't really get credit.
Speaker 4 (03:51):
Here's my here's my other question. Wide receivers Davante Smith.
I love him. I think he's every bit as good
as Brown, But Brown gets the bigger hype, and that's who's.
Speaker 2 (04:00):
The list wide receiver, Like who was like number ninety two.
Speaker 4 (04:03):
Well, here's here's some guys that are in the top
hundred near like in the nineties. Drake London from the
Atlanta Fountain and I couldn't tell you.
Speaker 5 (04:10):
Lad mcconkee from the chart he had a really good year.
Jerry Judy Brown's yeah that sounds right, plays with no quarterbacks.
Speaker 4 (04:17):
T Higgins love him, seventy seven Elite Neighbors, the rookie
for the Giants. I don't know how he made the list.
Crazy they make it even throw the ball. I mean,
he's a terrific player. Terry McLaren from Washington.
Speaker 2 (04:31):
Is on the list.
Speaker 5 (04:31):
Really good, he's Harry Kill. Mike Evans is forty four.
I love Mikey. He's one of my really good. It's
been good for a long time.
Speaker 4 (04:38):
Poka the Coach, CD Lamb at thirty five, Nico Collins
from Houston at thirty two.
Speaker 2 (04:44):
But no Smith, he's not as good as I will
say this. I will say this, What am I missing?
If T Higgins is seventy seven, Yeah, I think T.
Speaker 5 (04:51):
Higgins is better than than are Live, than AJ Brown
then he no up burn aj Brown than Smith Burton Smith.
Speaker 2 (05:01):
But again for this.
Speaker 5 (05:03):
Team, he's perfect because he just does his thing on
his side of the field. And if they had to
throw the ball more, I remember last year he didn't
throw the ball.
Speaker 2 (05:12):
A whole lot. I think they ran the ball.
Speaker 5 (05:15):
There was a stat there that they ran the ball
more than they threw the ball in like eleven or
twelve of their games, which coach is insane, like nobody
does that.
Speaker 2 (05:23):
Should damn who Drake London?
Speaker 6 (05:27):
I mean, what am I?
Speaker 5 (05:27):
What am I missing here? Lad mcconti. I mean, do
we have their numbers? I mean, I know they both
were a thousand yard gusts.
Speaker 3 (05:36):
Maybe they're not the flashies names, but I know they
had good seasons. But I agree with you and Davante especially,
I mean, and I think a lot of it. I mean,
I know this is a regular season sad, you know,
as we talked about, but I mean his catch in
the Super Bowl, I mean you could say that was
the moment right there. And I know that that, you know,
brings us a lot of fond memories. But I agree
with you. I mean, you know, Smith in his career
has had a lot of big catches, especially when Brown
has you know, either been hurt, injured or or you know,
(05:57):
he's just been been covered really well and Smith has
come through and moment. So I think a lot of it, though, guys,
has to has to deal with kind of the flashiness
of the name.
Speaker 2 (06:04):
I mean, everybody knows who A J.
Speaker 3 (06:05):
Brown is, right, and I think Smith kind of is
that second guy regardless, And I agree with you, Dick,
you know the whole way.
Speaker 2 (06:11):
I think he's just as good as A J. Brown.
Speaker 3 (06:13):
I think we're going to see him continue to take
that next step, and I hope it does. But I
think a lot of it has to deal with just,
you know, the flashiness of the names. And I know
that's probably not what you want to hear, but I
think it's the other See.
Speaker 5 (06:23):
We see our guys all the time. We know what
our guys. We don't see Drake London, I couldn't yet whatever,
So we see and I've seen.
Speaker 2 (06:31):
I think I think he.
Speaker 4 (06:32):
Caught the winning touchdown when the Falcons came in and
the Eagles in week two is my memory.
Speaker 2 (06:37):
He might have the only thing I remember memory of
like a post corner route.
Speaker 5 (06:41):
And a thing I remember about that game is the
Barkley play So yeah, but again, and we've seen it
when AJ Brown doesn't play, doesn't I mean that playoff
game two years ago and he got hurting. They had
Now I'm not saying that they would have had a
shot had AJ play, well, they they probably would have.
But again, he's so good that Davante just gets overshadowed
(07:05):
a little bit. And that's probably just the way it's
going to be. And you know, there's not like a
whole lot he can do. But he's getting paid, he
got you know, he got his contract, he's going to.
Speaker 2 (07:15):
He's got a ring on his finger. Life is good.
Speaker 4 (07:18):
So here's some of the names that haven't been picked yet.
Do I think it got to be in the top twenty,
at least for me, they do. I'm on Saint Brown
from Detroit, I love that guy.
Speaker 2 (07:27):
Mike top player. Well, Jefferson from Minnesota, for sure, he's
sure top ten.
Speaker 4 (07:33):
I would say, yeah, the great white out whose name
has escaped me for Cincinnati, Oh.
Speaker 5 (07:38):
Damar Chase, Chase got to be Oh no, he's gotta
be top He might be top ten, right, I.
Speaker 2 (07:43):
Think Jefferson's a little higher, But I.
Speaker 5 (07:45):
Boy, man, people love close. They do, and they were
on the same team.
Speaker 2 (07:51):
With with Joe Burrow.
Speaker 4 (07:53):
So quarterbacks that haven't been taken yet Jackson Mahomes, Alan
Burrow all clearly going to be in the top twenty Barkley.
So that's eight names right there, and we can come
up with. Is a running back from Detroit.
Speaker 2 (08:05):
He's been he was like top twenty two to twenty three. Well, yeah,
he's good to be like twenty eight.
Speaker 4 (08:10):
Jamar Gibbs, Yeah, he's good a Jamaric Gips, Yeah, yeah,
he's on.
Speaker 2 (08:13):
The quarterback from Jacksonville, been on there yet.
Speaker 4 (08:15):
No Jansen will put him on there by thirty seven,
No Jared Golf And I assume if he's not on
by now he a getting on.
Speaker 5 (08:25):
That's that's a little surprise. He ain't gonna be a
great yeah, I don't think. Yeah, but he hasn't been chosen.
So if he gets picked like eighteenth, would that be surprising?
Speaker 4 (08:35):
Not a total shock. I mean, I like the team
that had the best oppens.
Speaker 5 (08:39):
I have a funny I have a funny feeling that
Gared's going to get on there and that our guy
is not.
Speaker 3 (08:44):
No, where would you guys put Josh Allen in the conversation.
Speaker 5 (08:48):
Yeah, top ten for sure, I have maybe top five. Yeah, yeah,
he'd he's uh. I mean, do you put him ahead
of Burrow?
Speaker 2 (08:55):
I don't. Personally I do it either.
Speaker 5 (08:57):
I agree with you guys, but he's really He's got
the m v P. Lamar's got two m vps. And look,
Joe's been to a super Bowl, almost won the Super Bowl.
I hadn't almost beat the Chiefs again like the next year,
So fuck that. To me, it's it's like, you like Burrow,
I like this guy. Yeah, they're all They're all those guys.
(09:19):
And there's no right or wrong answer to be on
Switcher because there's a lot of people who tell you
last year Lamar Jackson probably had his best year ever
and did win, and people were like, yeah, he was
the first team quarterback on the on the all on
the All Pro team or whatever they call that.
Speaker 2 (09:35):
YEP. I don't know.
Speaker 4 (09:36):
The theory was that he was playing with better players.
That was the theory. I don't know if it's sure
or not, but that's that was the theory. And I
think I couldn't name you a lot of players. David
named me some offensive players for the Buffalo Philps I
mean I.
Speaker 5 (09:49):
Know that Cook James Day they had one good wide receiver,
but that's I don't know why that's the.
Speaker 2 (09:58):
We all we all know a lot of guys. We
have a borrow.
Speaker 3 (10:01):
I mean Dalton they have chased, but not a whole
lot besides that in CINCINNATII.
Speaker 5 (10:05):
Yeah, but he's got chasing Higgins. But it goes back
from theory. It was back in nineteen ninety five they
gave tom os. Were ninety four, they gave tom os.
Tom Os were not won a national title. You know,
they should have been co NATD. Look you noticed the
air Penn state it was twelve and Iland.
Speaker 2 (10:23):
Did they both?
Speaker 5 (10:24):
They should have given both the trophy and sent him
on the Murray Way and that would have been it.
Speaker 2 (10:28):
It was Josh. It was Josh Allen's turn.
Speaker 5 (10:31):
Even though if you looked at the numbalas and the
reasoning was a you said, maybe he's doing getting it done.
Speaker 4 (10:39):
I think that was part of the theory. And then
he and that he hadn't won it yet. An important
personal privilege for me here today. Uh, when David came in,
he told me he became a horse racing fan because
his grandfather brought him out here to Parks.
Speaker 2 (10:53):
That's right.
Speaker 7 (10:55):
Pennsylvania Derby, Pennsylvania Derby. Does the name Ron turn mean
anything to you? Not off the top of my had dick,
To be honest, you're going to learn something.
Speaker 4 (11:05):
Ron Turcott passed away yesterday at eighty four. He was
the jockey of the fastest horce that ever lived. He
was Secretariat's jockey, and in nineteen ninety eight, and I've
just pulled the story up. I went up to his
home in New Brunswick, Canada to do a story on
him on the twenty fifth anniversary of Secretariat's Triple Crown.
(11:27):
It's one of my all time favorite stories that I did.
Actually read it last night and brought back a lot
of memories.
Speaker 2 (11:34):
And five years.
Speaker 4 (11:36):
After Secretary won the Triple Crown, and for the people
that don't know, he set the time record in the
Kentucky Derby, the Preakness and the Belmont Steaks and all
those records still stand today.
Speaker 5 (11:48):
Prenant the Preakness wasn't considered official or have they changed that?
Speaker 2 (11:51):
It's now a fish now fish.
Speaker 4 (11:53):
They realized they had screwed it up at first, they
retimed it. So think about that nineteen seventy three. We're
talking fifty two years ago. He sets all the records
and they still stand. And Ronnie was the writer. And
five years after Secretary won the Triple ground, ron was
paralyzed in a horse racing accident. And I went up
(12:14):
there thinking, I'm writing this sad story about this poor
guy who's been paralyzed, and it's going to be Maudlin,
and I got everything wrong. It was exactly the opposite.
He was the hero in his town. He managed, he
was driving around a van. He could somehow do things,
do enough with his hands that he could find a
way to get places.
Speaker 2 (12:36):
And it was one of my all time favorite stories.
Speaker 4 (12:38):
And Ron Turcott, eighty four years old, managed to live
out the rest of his life in his native Canada
with his wife. In reading the story last night, his
wife was from a family of twelve and Ronnie was
from a family of twelve and.
Speaker 2 (12:56):
Her line was long enters, no TV.
Speaker 4 (13:02):
And I think everybody got the point of what that
was all about.
Speaker 2 (13:06):
Both from a family of twelve, but yeah.
Speaker 5 (13:08):
Just everybody's birthdays were in September and October.
Speaker 4 (13:11):
They got very uplifting story. And Rob Turcott an absolute
legend in horse.
Speaker 5 (13:18):
It might not notice, but too when he won the
Triple Crown, there had not been one since nineteen forty eight, correct, Yeah.
Speaker 2 (13:25):
Not just similar.
Speaker 4 (13:27):
Kerrent knows this horse racing in nineteen forty eight. Yeah,
citation who's a jocking in site? Wasn't Eddie or Kurrent?
Speaker 2 (13:34):
Was it Eddie?
Speaker 4 (13:34):
Another legend of the sport. But yeah, So the little
lesson for you, David, Ronnie Turkott. There's stories all over
the internet today about them.
Speaker 2 (13:42):
But I'll learned something today. Yeah, you got, That's what
That's what we're here for. We're heard to do stuff
like that. All right.
Speaker 5 (13:47):
Baseball is so secretary because I know Man of War
was he lost once? Right to upset, that's correct? But
his secretariat considered the best horse. I think if you
said every horse that ever raced at their very best,
John Henry was pretty good too, right or not remotely
(14:08):
about remotely in the caliber. Now all of the great
horses run their very best races.
Speaker 4 (14:13):
Nobody's beating Secretary. And of course the culmination of his
career was it wasn't his last race. He won the
Pelmont Stakes by thirty one lens I was pulling away, correct,
and Ron Turkotte. It's a famous photo, David. They're about
I don't know, maybe fifty yards in the finish and
he told me, he says, yeah, I look behind me,
(14:34):
and I couldn't see anything because there are no other horses.
So he said, you know what, I think I'll look
over to my left where you can see the toadboard
and you can see the timer clicking off, and he
saw two minutes twenty seconds with like fifty yards to go,
which in the horse is the whorld is about four seconds. Well,
he got to the finish line at two minutes twenty
four seconds, which is a world record, which also stands.
Speaker 2 (15:00):
Those years later. And I think I wrote my story.
Speaker 4 (15:03):
It was he was going after trying to beat the
other horses and the clock, and he beat them both.
Speaker 5 (15:09):
It was Ronnie let up in the stretch a little bitter.
I mean, he was still right the horse won't let them.
He wanted to see how fast.
Speaker 2 (15:16):
He could go.
Speaker 5 (15:16):
And when when Secretariat passed and they opened them up,
it turned out that he had a heart. Correct, it
was as big as really yeah, wow, that's that's the
reason he had so much energy.
Speaker 2 (15:28):
Yeah, it was just it was like crazy.
Speaker 5 (15:29):
It was so abnormal thirty one lengths to wow. Yeah,
thirty one lengths is like I don't know out the
street road. I mean really, it's just sitting. It was
pulling and everybody had the ticket was worth like two
twenty or whatever. You know, a two dollars ticket you want,
but people were like, they're throwing them up.
Speaker 2 (15:49):
But he was pulling away, he was gaining round.
Speaker 5 (15:53):
If they had raised another quarter of a mile, it
would be probably would have won by thirty five.
Speaker 2 (15:58):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (15:58):
In the first the first two legs of that triple
cran David the same horse rent second horse named Sham.
Speaker 2 (16:03):
It was a really oh yeah horse, I've heard the name.
Speaker 4 (16:06):
But by the third leg, sham It was ridden by
the great Lafitte Penkai. They went after Secretariat early. They're
trying to see who could break well Shambrooke. Sham finished last,
and I don't know, he's beaten like fifty legs. I
don't know what the numbers, like six or seven horses
and never raced again. There's five horses there. And as
I always tell my friends when they have a bad dass,
said you're twice a prince, They go, what do you
(16:28):
meet twice a prince.
Speaker 2 (16:29):
That was the horse that finished second, the Secretary beaten
by twy prince twice. A prince is the horse that's
exactly pay three, not a lot three. Yeah, I read,
but nobody cared it was. It was just that moment.
It wasn't about making money. I mean, how many people
they have there that day.
Speaker 4 (16:46):
I don't know what the number was, but it was
one of the great sporting moments of the twenty first century.
It's why in ESPN's Top one hundred Athletes of the
twentieth century, secretaryat was.
Speaker 2 (16:56):
Number thirty eight.
Speaker 4 (16:57):
It was the only none probably should have been probably
should have been higher, thirty eight, thirty six, whatever the numbers. Anyway,
tribute to Rod Turcotte, one of the legends of the game,
passed today.
Speaker 2 (17:08):
It was kind of up there in the northeast.
Speaker 4 (17:11):
Right, Yeah, as I remember it, Mike, I flew to
Boston and that then got on a plane where the
pilot pulled the door. It was one of those kind
of planes where there was like six of us on
the plane and we landed in some little town in
Maine as far north as you could go, and then
you turn right and headed into Canada. That was there was,
(17:33):
there was pangor would have been like New York City
compared to where we were.
Speaker 5 (17:37):
It was the middle of nowhere. I don't remember that
to get from there to the rental cars. Oh oh
you drove okay, rental cars. But you went in the summer, right,
you went when there was I went in March. Okay,
it was still cold, Yeah, it was still chilly.
Speaker 2 (17:55):
I was just gonna ask, Yeah, I was lucky it
wasn't like three feet of snow. Did we knew?
Speaker 5 (18:00):
When we were the daily news we did stuff like
that all the time. We would just are newspapers had
newspapers and they would say, hey, Ray did in Jiro.
Speaker 2 (18:11):
George Bretchett in three ninety.
Speaker 5 (18:12):
How about we go to Kansas City and do and
and we'll get another story like what else is.
Speaker 2 (18:16):
Going on out that way?
Speaker 5 (18:18):
And that's what we did, and that's, you know, kind
of what made us worth spending fifty was it fifty
cents in seventy five? I don't know, whatever, whatever, less
than it is now. So, David, what is it you
want to do in this business? Let's get into your
story here.
Speaker 2 (18:34):
Sure.
Speaker 3 (18:34):
So I'm the sports director for Villanova student radio station WXFU,
so our broadcast Villanova men's and women's basketball and football
very nice and I've been doing that for the past
three years. I'm going in my senior year, as I said,
and high school went to Holy Ghost Prep just few
yards away, and that's where I started our high school
TV station there did sports broadcasting and just fell in
(18:56):
love with it. So heading to Villanova, I knew I
wanted to continue that and take that as my career path.
So I've been fortunate to call games from Madison Square
Garden and different places around the country.
Speaker 2 (19:04):
So it's been great.
Speaker 3 (19:06):
And uh yeah, for me, just want to be, you know, broadcaster,
that would be ideal. Baseball is my favorite sport, so
I would love to be a professional baseball broadcaster. But
just love you know, talking sports, being on the radio,
being on the TV in any way possible.
Speaker 5 (19:19):
So it's so what was I doing when I was
a senior in college trying my impression?
Speaker 2 (19:24):
What was the experience? It has a voice now you
know you do. Thank you. I appreciate it. Thank you.
What was real? Quick?
Speaker 5 (19:30):
The experience in whole we goes because I saw some people.
My son we almost sent him there, but he just
wanted to go what was Is it really as good
as they say it is?
Speaker 2 (19:39):
I think so.
Speaker 3 (19:40):
I mean I've made some you know, this probably sounds cliche,
but I've made some really lifelong friends, and I'm very
thankful that.
Speaker 2 (19:45):
I think you do that a lot of different high schools.
Speaker 3 (19:46):
But it was really unique for me because going there
during COVID was you know, I started before COVID and
then during my sophomore year, COVID hit, So it was
really kind of a transition period, you know, going online
and kind of back and forth when we eventually came
back to campus. But my last two years that's really
how I kind of got into broadcasting. I don't want
to bore everybody with my story, but that's why we
(20:06):
During my my junior year, my principal basically come into
our library at Holy Ghost, which was, I mean it's
very school, a very small school for those that don't know,
probably four hundred and fifty students when I graduated, in
the entire high school, and we were eating the juniors
reading lunch in our library, and my principal walked in
and asked if anyone was interested in broadcasting the basketball
game that weekend, since you know, the parents and the
(20:27):
fans going to be in the basketball arena, and you know,
I love sports and I love to talk. I didn't
exactly know at that point that was where I wanted
to go in my direction. I don't think many juniors
in high school do. But you know, I took the
chance basically, and I say this to people, and I
think they think I'm crazy, but I basically sprinted up
to him and was like, I'm interested. And fast forward
a few days later that Saturday, I'm calling the basketball
(20:47):
game with my principal, which was a little nerve wracking
at first, but it was a really great experience and
I just, you know, really truly fell in love with
it from there. And but you know, Holy Ghosts really
gave me the opportunities to be where I'm now. I
think they prepare me really well for Villanova, which I'm
very thankful for. But just really thinking back about you know,
they kind of gave me, you know, let me drive
the car.
Speaker 2 (21:07):
Really in terms of the broadcasting program, I mean, none
of this was there.
Speaker 3 (21:09):
They're willing to spend money and help me, you know,
get behind the mic, and I'm very thankful to say that.
Speaker 2 (21:13):
You know, the program now is is.
Speaker 3 (21:15):
I mean, there is a legitimate broadcasting program at Holy Ghost,
which I'm very thankful. It's much better now, especially with
the equipment than when I left. But that's just great
to see that other students because I think broadcasting and
just talking and having conversations so unique. That's why I'm
here today. And being able to have, you know, high
school students be able to now do that Holy Ghost
and just for me to be able to be a
(21:35):
part of it is great.
Speaker 4 (21:36):
So in a couple of weeks, David, you will be
in Beaver Stadium calling Villanova.
Speaker 8 (21:40):
I will be.
Speaker 2 (21:41):
I will be. What do you think that's going to be?
Speaker 3 (21:44):
Well, I always say Villanova is a winning record against
Penn State and football. Now, most of those wins had
come in the seventies. All those wins, I believe came
back in the seventies. But I'm really excited to be.
Speaker 2 (21:54):
There Villanova and be Penn State in the seventies.
Speaker 3 (21:57):
No, No, I'll go back and shack noticed way before that,
way before eighteen seventies.
Speaker 2 (22:04):
Yeah, eighteen seventies. I'll go back and check this. Joe, Joe,
pa was was not losing. Now, it was a long
time ago. It was. It was a long time ago,
but I what do you think? I'm very excited. Have
you been up there?
Speaker 3 (22:16):
I have not been up there, heard good things se
so I'm excited to get up there and be with
the crowd.
Speaker 2 (22:21):
So that's it's gonna be fun.
Speaker 3 (22:22):
Uh, We'll see how it goes for Villano, but I
think it's gonna be a tough one, of course, but it's.
Speaker 4 (22:27):
It going to be a temporary press box this year
because they tore down one side of the stands and
they have like a because they're rebuilding one side of
the Beaver Stadium. But I'm sure they'll take good carry.
Go say hi to my man Steve Joes.
Speaker 5 (22:39):
You're sure I played for Tell him tell him you
know me, David, and he'll take good carry and probably
U maybe even take your U the creamery and get
yourself and.
Speaker 2 (22:50):
It's a must mustop I've heard. So I'm going to
go back to Peach. I think Mike current always on
top of stuff.
Speaker 4 (22:59):
Well, Teach, did you find the answer to that question?
Speaker 2 (23:06):
I'm going to go back. Ye, you're in the break
for it.
Speaker 4 (23:08):
We're gonna find out the history of Lenova, Penn State foot.
Speaker 5 (23:10):
Do you know when they played in twenty one, the
final was only thirty eight to seventeen.
Speaker 2 (23:14):
Yeah, they hung it. That was the year before I
started going to Villanova. Yep, Yeah, I don't think they're
hanging in this year. But we're gonna take a break.
Speaker 4 (23:20):
We got We're gonna talk some baseball, which is David's
favorite sport. We can see him broadcasting the Phillies hopefully
at some point when Tom McCarthy's ready to retire, and
we got Jansen coming up.
Speaker 2 (23:30):

Mister Jansen, Good morning.
Speaker 6 (26:33):
Sir, Good morning. How are we doing, guys? How are
we doing?
Speaker 5 (26:37):
It's week zero, It's week zero, so we're ready to
hear some of your selections for week zero and then
we'll get in a little baseball and we'll debate your
selections because we question in advance if you have any
idea what you're talking about.
Speaker 6 (26:54):
I do not, So let's let's get that out of
the way right now.
Speaker 4 (27:00):
Football first, Johnny, I bet this Kansas State in Dublin
at noon minus three and a half at bet Park's
over Iowa State, Top twenty five matchup in the Big Twelve.
Speaker 9 (27:12):
Yeah, this one has college football playoff implications because I
think these are two of the top.
Speaker 6 (27:17):
Teams in the Big twelve.
Speaker 9 (27:18):
I know Arizona State is looked at because of what
they did last year to be that team, but I
think they're actually gonna lose a lot with cam Skataboo
and the running games is not gonna look the same
as it did. So that's really up to Sam Levitt,
the quarterback, to kind of elevate his game.
Speaker 6 (27:32):
But I don't think he's that good.
Speaker 9 (27:33):
To me, They're like an eight to nine with Tea.
I say he's not that good, but not good enough
to elevate the way they need him. So really it
comes down to I would say Kansas State for me.
Two great quarterbacks in rock Obec for the Cyclones and
the Wildcats with Avery Johnson. Campas State lost a lot
on offense and defense, so they're trying to get some
production back from last year, or at least try and
(27:56):
elevate their production from last year. They only scored thirty
points per game, which is down from their previous year.
So we'll see Abray Johnson. It was his first year
starting in his second year starting now, he could be better.
But I'm actually looking at Iowa State. They have to
replace Jaydon and Higgins and Jaleen Nowell, they're two wide
receivers on the offensive side, but they bring in Jase
Soul from East Carolina and a couple of other transfers.
(28:17):
I just think this is gonna be a really rock
solid showing from Iowa State's offense and just Iowa State
in general.
Speaker 6 (28:23):
So I'm going with the Cyclones here. A bit of
an underdog at three and a half, but I.
Speaker 9 (28:27):
Like them to win this outright, So I'm taking them
on the money line.
Speaker 4 (28:31):
David, you got a thought on Iowa State Kansas State
today in the opener Week zero.
Speaker 3 (28:37):
I mean, I'm excited to have college football back. Just
had to say that. I mean, the weather's starting to
feel like it as well. But yeah, I'll go with
John here. With the offense of Iowa State. I mean,
this is gonna be a really good contest, you know,
as John said there as well, We'll see how Kansas
State does. It's gonna be a big year for them.
But I'm gonna go with Iowa State in their offense.
Speaker 5 (28:53):
Mike, I think betting week zero or even week one
sometimes just hazardous to my health.
Speaker 2 (28:59):
But most of the things.
Speaker 5 (29:01):
I've been reading trying to find out about people seem
to like Kansas State for whatever reasons.
Speaker 2 (29:08):
I don't. I think these, as John.
Speaker 5 (29:10):
Said, these are probably two of the better teams in
the Big twelve Top twenty five match although last year
the team that was picked to finish last when it
won the conference. So these two teams maybe could both
make it to the title game.
Speaker 2 (29:23):
I don't.
Speaker 5 (29:24):
The Big Twelve is one of those conferences you just
seem to have a tough time.
Speaker 4 (29:28):
Can anybody name the teams at the Big twelve? I mean,
that's the hardest part about it sports. It really is John.
Let's try John without looking let me hear it.
Speaker 9 (29:40):
I don't know if I can name all the teams.
I might need to ask Nick maclay for help. Who
knows more college football than.
Speaker 6 (29:45):
Even I do. He is very good on the board there.
But yeah, but what do we got? Cincinnati?
Speaker 2 (29:50):
Houston?
Speaker 9 (29:51):
Cincinnati, Houston, UCF, Kansas, Kansas State, Iowa State? Are we
missing Colorado? I know I'm a lot there.
Speaker 5 (30:05):
Utah Yeah, Utah, yep Utah, Arizona.
Speaker 2 (30:10):
Yepe Arizona State b yu.
Speaker 5 (30:15):
Yu.
Speaker 1 (30:15):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (30:15):
I always forget what neck are we closed?
Speaker 2 (30:18):
Do we have them all there?
Speaker 3 (30:19):
I think we got Texas Tech two Texas.
Speaker 4 (30:23):
We forget what are we doing? But yeah, I mean
it's West Virginia. May No, he said West Virginia. Did
I said West Virginia? Did he say West Virginia? I
thought he did. I thought he did too.
Speaker 6 (30:34):
But I will not forget about the Red Raiders this year.
By the way, keep keep an eye on them. The
Red Raider.
Speaker 4 (30:38):
Here one other league. Everybody has the name Mike. You're
not involved in this PAC twelve. Who can name the john.
Speaker 6 (30:49):
Exists?
Speaker 2 (30:50):
No, it shouldn't take.
Speaker 6 (30:51):
It around h Yeah, well I know Oregon State and
Washington State.
Speaker 5 (30:56):
That's league right there to play each other twelve times.
Speaker 2 (31:01):
New members next year including Kazata.
Speaker 6 (31:04):
Next year, right, next year?
Speaker 2 (31:06):
Next year.
Speaker 4 (31:07):
Yeah, I'm gonna look up the Big twelve here and
see see what I see? How close we came to
the actual league?
Speaker 5 (31:12):
Well, yeah, the Big ten ones go to like twenty
four teams that night. As year we forgot Baylor b White,
like the Cincinnati, Colorado, Houston, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State,
Oklahoma State, that we name.
Speaker 2 (31:27):
Them, I don't think so. I don't think TCU. We
definitely didn't name.
Speaker 4 (31:31):
T ucf Utah and West Virginia. How many took four six, eight, ten, twelve.
Speaker 5 (31:39):
Fourteen, sixty sixteen? Crazy six year?
Speaker 6 (31:42):
What do you get to the major conferences? Like the
Big Three?
Speaker 5 (31:45):
Like that?
Speaker 6 (31:45):
They're a wait of many teams at East Conference.
Speaker 4 (31:47):
It's it's hard, all right, I'm gonna say, let's let's
since we're into week zero, let's let's see if we
can do.
Speaker 2 (31:53):
I'm gonna pull it up. Can we do? The SEC?
Speaker 6 (32:00):
Who wants to start, they would take the whole segment.
Speaker 2 (32:05):
What are sixteen teams in two right?
Speaker 6 (32:07):
Yeah, there's like I think we're close to twenty.
Speaker 2 (32:10):
Yeah, there we go.
Speaker 4 (32:13):
You ready, Alabama, Arkansas, Auburn, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky. These are
all Stampon's l s U and Mississippi State. They've been
in the league forever. Here's where it starts to get complicated. Missouri,
Oklahoma in Mississippi, South Carolina, Tennessee five Texas, A and M
Texas and Vanderbilt coming off.
Speaker 2 (32:33):
Did you see their new stadium? How about Vanderbilt? I
mean it's commodore.
Speaker 5 (32:36):
Hey they beat Bama issueer, yes they did. They had
one of their great Missouri has been in that league
for like a thosand years. Yeah, it's I know, it's
you know, we say Missouri, but yeah, they've been in
it for a while.
Speaker 9 (32:46):
All its yeah, Diego is back for another year, so vandyke.
Speaker 2 (32:51):
My man, All right, here we go, here we go.
Speaker 4 (32:53):
We're have some fun here a CC ready, Temple, Boston College,
hal Clemson to Florida State, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Miami, North
Carolina State, North Carolina, Pittsburgh, s m U, Stanford, Sarah Can,
Virginia Tech and Wake for marg what is.
Speaker 9 (33:16):
Atlantic Coastal Conference members cal and Stanford in the Atlantic
Coast Conference.
Speaker 5 (33:23):
Makes sense to me? I got a segue for you. Okay,
Stanford is at Hawaii with coach who's the former regal coordinator,
Frank Frank, the interim heads getting two and a half.
Do you know that in each of the last four
(33:44):
years Stanford has won three games?
Speaker 2 (33:47):
Yeah, they've been that's.
Speaker 5 (33:48):
Temple and Stanford used to be. Remember there was a
time when Stanford was really good.
Speaker 2 (33:54):
Yeah, like when l Way was there and more recently
when Luck was there and then took show, did a
good job.
Speaker 4 (34:01):
Andrew Luck is now the general manager of Stanford Football.
Speaker 2 (34:04):
I think I'm liking Hawaii's in that game.
Speaker 6 (34:08):
I think I like the Rainbow Warriors.
Speaker 5 (34:10):
I think Warriors minus two. That game is seven thirty tonight. Timmy,
Timmy Chang's got to start winning some games. You're getting
a little disgruntled with Timmy. No, they are.
Speaker 2 (34:21):
Yeah, he's the head coach.
Speaker 9 (34:22):
Now, Yeah, he had that that was a that was
a brutal program when they when he took over, so.
Speaker 2 (34:29):
Be it and they lost.
Speaker 4 (34:30):
Three games by total of eight points last year. Can
you name a player on either team? And I know
you know more Timmy Chang, he's the.
Speaker 6 (34:37):
Coach I used to know. I haven't.
Speaker 9 (34:42):
I didn't dive deep into Hawaii, Nick, you.
Speaker 2 (34:45):
Got no I got no names on either of these.
You got nothing.
Speaker 5 (34:50):
Nobody from East Carolina transferred to Hawaii.
Speaker 9 (34:54):
No, No, I don't think so, I don't think.
Speaker 2 (34:57):
Just the refresher course, big ten. Everybody ready write this down?
Speaker 4 (35:02):
Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan State, Michigan, Minnesota, Nebraska, Northwestern,
Ohio State, Oregon, Penn State, Purdue, Rutgers, UCLA, USC Washington,
and Wisconsin.
Speaker 2 (35:17):
I mean, who could keep up with this madness? I can't.
Speaker 4 (35:19):
It's it's it's complete in Sanday, John, There's a couple
other games on the list today. I'll just throw them
out there. UNLV minus twenty seven against Idaho State apparently
they're not very good. And Kansas at home minus thirteen
and a half against Fresno.
Speaker 2 (35:34):
That game is at six thirty. I love Fresno in
that game. That's my best bet of the week. John,
You're gonna think.
Speaker 6 (35:39):
You know quarterback games for the President of State Bulldogs.
Speaker 2 (35:43):
I don't Oh, it's a temple guy. Now where is he?
Where do you go?
Speaker 6 (35:47):
It is EJ. Warrier?
Speaker 5 (35:50):
He is the guy at Fresnoday. All right, all right,
That's why I love Fresno. I've always looked that.
Speaker 6 (35:56):
That's why I love Kansas. He did what he did
a good job.
Speaker 9 (36:03):
I think he was say Rice in his last up
and he actually put up some decent numbers. But President
State is a new head coach, lost a lot of
players on defense, and they lost I think like seven
to eight starters on defense, and Kansas trying to rejuvenate
their offense. Last year was a bit of a down year.
Jalen Daniels a good two years ago. Last year did
not look as great. But I actually think with last Leopold,
(36:25):
he's a great coach. Uh it's gonna be a bit
more of an up year for Kansas. I think they
they kind of do a little bit better than they
were five to seven last year.
Speaker 6 (36:32):
I think they make a bowl game this year.
Speaker 1 (36:34):
Uh.
Speaker 9 (36:34):
So give me Kansas to put up some points on
a Fresno State defense.
Speaker 6 (36:37):
It's really trying to figure itself out. Early.
Speaker 2 (36:39):
Name name a player for Kansas, not Wilt Chamberlain or.
Speaker 9 (36:43):
Danny made Uh, well, I do know Jalen Daniels. He
is the quarterback there wait Kansas in basketball.
Speaker 6 (36:50):
Or no football and football like.
Speaker 2 (36:55):
A former player player on this team right now, your.
Speaker 9 (36:59):
Nick, I did know Daniels and Devin deal. But Devin
Neil's uh, he moved on to.
Speaker 2 (37:04):
The draft not playing.
Speaker 6 (37:07):
He's out. I'm playing, Nick.
Speaker 2 (37:14):
Do you know anybody on Kansas?
Speaker 3 (37:16):
Just Jayalen Daniels just because he's been there for God.
Speaker 5 (37:19):
There for six years Kansas.
Speaker 6 (37:23):
He has been there for a long time.
Speaker 4 (37:24):
Yes, he has any opinion on any of these other games, David,
any thoughts on these week zero games U n L V.
Speaker 2 (37:31):
Kansas? So I whatever, Honestly, no, I have to do.
Speaker 3 (37:36):
I do a little bit more researcher. I'll give you,
I'll give you some picks there. But I'm definitely gonna
pay a closetenttion to the Kansas State later.
Speaker 5 (37:44):
Week zero zero is we're not sick here?
Speaker 2 (37:49):
Are you serious?
Speaker 4 (37:53):
Since we won't be on till next Saturday morning, here's
some Friday games, uh for you, Mike Current Auburn minus
two and a half at Baylor and Georgia Tech minus
four at Colorado at eight o'clock on Friday night, Dion
without without his son, without Hunter or without I don't
know what they know.
Speaker 2 (38:13):
My opinion is I want to see somebody play before.
Speaker 5 (38:16):
I'm pretty before you're putting money on the line on
general principle, And I don't know. You would think Auburn
should be able to beat Baylor, but you know what's
Auburn done for me lately? I mean, you know there's
a reason why, right, there's a reason why they're only
favored by two and a half sec Big twelve game, huge.
Speaker 9 (38:36):
And yeah, and I'm just I don't know about Jackson Arnold,
who is a transfer was at Oklahoma big time a
cruit I transferred over to Auburn, Like I. He looked
not great at Oklahoma. And now there's a lot that
could be said about their offensive line and just weapons overhauled.
Speaker 6 (38:51):
It wasn't a great offense.
Speaker 9 (38:52):
But I think a lot of the problems do kind
of stem from him, and I don't know if it's
really going to get fixed in Auburn, where they also
deal with some problems as well on the offensive side.
Speaker 2 (39:02):
A great couch at all John John who I thought
it was, but I wasn't sure you freeze is there right?
Speaker 5 (39:09):
Yeah, a little bit of a bandit a little bit
you suggest a little bit.
Speaker 4 (39:18):
Are suggesting a success that all this was due to
something recruiting good student athletes.
Speaker 9 (39:26):
Also, Colorado, I actually think could played pretty well this
year despite a lot of a lot of pieces missing.
I just think Deon Anders is a good coach. They
do bring in Kayden Slater, Kayden P. Salter, excuse me,
who's got some talent? Comes in from Liberty. But the
problem is for their Week one game is Georgia Tech
brings back a lot of great players. The Yellow Jackets
are loaded on offense. It all starts with Haines King
(39:49):
and Jamal Haynes. Uh, two really big, two good speechers
out of the backfield. King is the quarterback, but I
think he was a track athlete back in high school,
so he's got a lot of speed.
Speaker 2 (39:59):
Uh.
Speaker 9 (39:59):
He's really great with Georgia Tech. And they've had a
great running offense for the past two years. Uh, and
I think that's just going to continue. They should run
all over Colorado. So Georgia Tech to me, is a
bit of a sleeper team when it comes to the
ACC I know Louisville and Clemson really just Clemson on
the two talked about teams and Clemson is probably the
overwhelming favorite, and I think they should be.
Speaker 6 (40:19):
But Georgia Tech to me, could be a sleeper in
the a SEC.
Speaker 4 (40:21):
Yeah, that game I believe is it's next Friday night
at eight o'clock, and I believe it's a forsome field
and Boulder, which is one of the great settings in
college sports unless it's a neutral game.
Speaker 9 (40:31):
You skipped the great Thursday game, a great rivalry match
up between the East Carolina Pirates and North Carolina State
wook Pack.
Speaker 2 (40:39):
How could I forget?
Speaker 6 (40:40):
How can you forget it?
Speaker 2 (40:42):
Does your squad have anything? Are they ever going to
win another game?
Speaker 1 (40:46):
Oh?
Speaker 6 (40:46):
Well, they sputual bowl game. They beat NCCA the bowl
game last year. They finished low. I think they were
eight and five last year, so the Pirates were okay.
Speaker 2 (40:56):
So that's the range game for State.
Speaker 9 (40:58):
That's what Yes, that's the problem I'm having is the
revenge game NC State. Dave Jordan, I think are looking
to have a bit of a better year than they
did last year. ECU loses a lot of skilled players
that they that they had last year. They were very
good for them. Roger Harris has moved on. He was
a senior last year. A couple of transfers from wide receiver.
(41:20):
They do have a couple of good ones. Anthony Smith,
I think his name is tall, quick guy, so a
really good vertical threat. But it's going to be tough
to replace a lot of that production. So I actually
kind of like the wolf Pack. Get the eleven and
a half.
Speaker 4 (41:32):
Yeah, minus eleven and a half for the wolf Pack,
seven o'clock ACC Network Thursday night, don't don't miss it.
We'll go through this quickly and then we'll get into
some baseball picks from John. Next Saturday, Week one, obviously
the big game Ohio State number three minus two and
a half at home against number one Texas Alabama minus
fourteen at bet Parks against Florida State.
Speaker 2 (41:52):
I believe that game is in Atlanta. I believe that's correct.
Speaker 5 (41:56):
Penn State minus forty four and a half, again it's Nevada.
Speaker 2 (42:00):
That's a three thirty star time.
Speaker 4 (42:02):
Next Saturday, Temple minus two and a half at U
mass and then that night taking.
Speaker 9 (42:08):
On what a riveting Week one game like that, That
to me is what college football is all about, fighting
out for the bottom of college football.
Speaker 6 (42:16):
I just I love it that that's the game to.
Speaker 4 (42:18):
Be absolutely Saturday night Clemson minus four l s U.
Speaker 2 (42:22):
That's a seven thirty start.
Speaker 5 (42:24):
Then Sunday, how about this game Notre Dame minus two
and a half in Miami on a Sunday.
Speaker 9 (42:29):
Yeah, well, no, I am all on the fighting Irish.
Give me the fighting Irish, give me the fighting.
Speaker 5 (42:35):
And hey, lentson line went up a little bit, John,
And then how about this game?
Speaker 1 (42:41):
Didn't talk about a lot?
Speaker 2 (42:43):
Yeah?
Speaker 4 (42:43):
Yeah, Monday Night football next week TCU minus three and
a half at North Carolina.
Speaker 5 (42:51):
The debut the Belichick Zill Belichick coaching college What do
you think of this whole thing?
Speaker 2 (42:57):
Is? What is up with this?
Speaker 5 (42:59):
It is?
Speaker 6 (43:00):
It is fascinating Belichick.
Speaker 9 (43:03):
He is He is definitely trying to take advantage of
the fact that he This is not an NFL like
professional environment, This is not an owner that is trying
to tell him what to do.
Speaker 6 (43:14):
This is his show.
Speaker 9 (43:15):
North Carolina made him the largest paid public public employee
of any school in that state, and he is going
to basically have like just say on anything.
Speaker 6 (43:25):
He can do whatever he wants.
Speaker 9 (43:27):
And I just think it's it's gonna end up being
a disaster just because it feels like he's trying to
prove a point in a point in his career where
I don't think he has some point to prove. So
it's just it's gonna be it's gonna be a mess,
I think in North Carolina, honestly, So I think Week
one is gonna be the start of that disaster.
Speaker 6 (43:43):
And give me TCU the horn Frost, I think.
Speaker 5 (43:45):
When there's another way of looking at that, though, John,
I understand exactly what you're saying, But this is Bill
Belichick we're talking about, and I get it.
Speaker 2 (43:52):
This is Bill bel This is old Bill Belichick.
Speaker 5 (43:55):
I think he can out coach a lot of the
guys he's going to be coaching against. Be wrong, but
I used to see him out coach guys in the
NFL almost every week with his defense what he did.
Speaker 2 (44:05):
So again, if he's even.
Speaker 9 (44:07):
Got with bad New England teams, he out coached a lot.
Speaker 5 (44:10):
If he's got even a little bit left in the tank,
and I'm assuming he's got fairly good assistance around him
or whatever, I'm not saying that, but I can see
them being like a decent team, like a six and six,
seven and five kind of team.
Speaker 2 (44:24):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (44:24):
My theory is he's stealing money on the way out
the door. Well that's David.
Speaker 6 (44:29):
That all just depends on, like how serious.
Speaker 9 (44:32):
I know he's probably gonna taket serious, but he's also
he's going on book tours. He did more interviews, and
I think I've ever seen Bill belichimp do.
Speaker 6 (44:39):
It's it's a little bit of.
Speaker 9 (44:40):
A different kind of Bill than we saw in New England,
and so I just I'm not sure if that discipline
is going that we saw in New England is going
to work its way into college.
Speaker 2 (44:49):
I think he's a bet against until further notice.
Speaker 4 (44:53):
Yeah, David, any any of these college football in general.
David will be doing the Bulova games with a student
radio station again, and bulldoga football, men's basketball, women's basketball,
any of these team slash games. Early on stick out
to you Week one. I just went over the big ones.
Speaker 3 (45:11):
Well, I'll talk a little bit about Belichick really quick.
I agree with you know what you guys were talking about.
You're seeing a little bit more personality from Belichick, which
is something that I don't know if the Patriots intentionally
tried to keep you know, closed, he did, he did
I agree, So you're seeing definitely a little bit more personality.
But I really like, you know, what Mike said about
you know, I mean, Bill Belichick is one of the
best coaches of all time. You could very well say
(45:33):
he is the best coach of all time, absolutely, and
I just think, you know, him against a lot of
these college coaches, I think that he has a really
good opportunity to take advantage there.
Speaker 2 (45:41):
But I think he's.
Speaker 3 (45:42):
Also going to use this kind of I don't necessarily
want to say his legacy tour, but I think in
a way it kind of is, you know, it could
be you know, his last job, and you know, we'll
see kind of, you know, what happens after this.
Speaker 2 (45:51):
But I think this is an opportunity.
Speaker 3 (45:53):
For him to kind of, you know, make a lot
of money and kind of show in a way his
personality because I don't think a lot of people have
seen a lot of that, and we'll see if he
can make more money off of it. So I think
North Carolina is going to start the season, we'll see,
it's all they do. But I think, you know, when
they match up a lot of these teams earlier in
the year, I think the main question is is going
to be, but what does Belichick do? And I think
(46:14):
just in the early part of the season, I think
the Belichick and UNC could start off the season hot,
just because I think he is kind of a mystery
card in terms of, you know, what is he.
Speaker 2 (46:22):
Going to do with the college level.
Speaker 3 (46:23):
You know, people know his playbook with the Patriots, but
obviously a much different story in North Carolina. So I
think UNC could start the season hot just because of
the fact that it is somewhat of a mystery of
kind of Belichick's whole plan being down there in North Carolina.
Speaker 2 (46:35):
His reputation further and Dick could be totally right.
Speaker 5 (46:40):
His reputation in the last three or four years right
has taken a hit. He's got six Super Bowl rings,
but people now, why, you know he only won because
of breed.
Speaker 2 (46:49):
Well, no, his defenses were pretty damn good.
Speaker 5 (46:51):
But I think he's got something to prove, even if
it's only to himself that I think the last thing
Bill wants to do is go to cal Line and
go three and nine.
Speaker 2 (47:01):
I just and again, he's not going to win the Aces.
Speaker 4 (47:04):
North Carolina has a pretty good tradition of pretty good football.
It's not like they're just short, right, and they've had
some very good teams since.
Speaker 2 (47:10):
I hate him.
Speaker 9 (47:11):
North Carol Guitar Heels stink, great players that never do
anything in college. They they never won anything. They don't
win anything ever.
Speaker 4 (47:19):
Did they beat the Carolina? Well, they win games, they
just don't win championship.
Speaker 1 (47:24):
They did?
Speaker 6 (47:24):
They beat these when I was there, they didn't beat
East Carolina.
Speaker 2 (47:26):
I know that that's awesome. Did you play him or no?
Speaker 5 (47:31):
Uh?
Speaker 6 (47:32):
Yeah, I actually was. I didn't personally play him. I
wasn't in the starting lineup that game, but I was.
Speaker 9 (47:38):
I was cheering in the stands in Chapel Hill as
East Carolina put up fifty five and beat the tar Heels.
Speaker 6 (47:45):
I think that was fourteen thirteen or fourteen.
Speaker 2 (47:48):
So all right, John, we got to help Minnesa.
Speaker 9 (47:50):
One thing I do want to say real quick about
Week one that's bothering me. So everybody's talking about Texas
and like they're inexperienced quarterback arch Manning, who, by the way,
like this third year, this guy has like built his body.
He's probably he's probably more mentally.
Speaker 6 (48:04):
Ready to go than any quarterback.
Speaker 9 (48:06):
He's thrown ninety something passing college football, which is more
than the.
Speaker 6 (48:10):
Other side that nobody's talking about.
Speaker 9 (48:12):
Julian Sen has thrown twelve college passes. What about his inexperience.
Why is nobody talking about Ohio State losing their starting quarterback,
their offensive coordinator, their defensive coordinator. It's all about Well,
arch Manning hasn't played that much. Ohio States quarterback hasn't either,
So like, what's the difference?
Speaker 2 (48:32):
Taking all day?
Speaker 6 (48:34):
Give me the long warns all day?
Speaker 2 (48:37):
What's the line on that game?
Speaker 8 (48:38):
Tha?
Speaker 2 (48:38):
Texas getting two and a half?
Speaker 4 (48:40):
Yea Columbus without nobody said and there in Texas defense
is really good?
Speaker 6 (48:51):
Absolutely?
Speaker 8 (48:51):
I agree?
Speaker 4 (48:52):
Yeah, John, you got a couple of minutes off any
baseball for us today.
Speaker 9 (48:57):
I'm all college football, though I got nothing baseball film.
Speaker 2 (49:00):
I do that.
Speaker 6 (49:00):
Can I do a go Phils today?
Speaker 1 (49:02):
Is?
Speaker 2 (49:02):
Yeah, you can.
Speaker 4 (49:03):
Is anybody concerned about Duran proving that he's human last
night he blows the save in the night inning, David,
you're our baseball guy or you concerned?
Speaker 2 (49:12):
Not at all?
Speaker 3 (49:12):
I mean there was a point last night where I
was watching the game after he struck out Garcia for
the first out of the ninth, where I really said,
I think it was one hundred mile power splitter again
where I said, really the Phillies should just put on
the scoreboard.
Speaker 2 (49:23):
Better luck next time.
Speaker 3 (49:24):
And okay, I jinxed it, I guess, but you know,
in hindsight, if JT doesn't throw the ball down the
third base line, the Phillies probably get out of that
inning with the game tied and have a chance to
win it. Sure, because Duran came back there in a
big way, but I mean he wasn't going to be you.
Speaker 2 (49:38):
Know, Brad Ledge.
Speaker 3 (49:39):
I mean, you know, everybody's human, yep, I mean just
being able to It's so hard to believe that Duran
with one hundred and three mile hour fastball, one hundred
mile power splitter is the Phillies closer of all teams,
the Phillies closer.
Speaker 2 (49:53):
I mean, what have we been through the last few years.
Speaker 3 (49:55):
I mean, Kimbroll, you know, Corey Knable a few years ago,
Brandon Workman. I mean, it's it's just been been brutal,
and he is the Phillies closer. I think last night
was just just a fluke. And look, the Nationals are
really pasky. I mean they beat the Mets in the
Series two or three in DC, but they spoke with
the Phillies.
Speaker 2 (50:10):
I mean they're a really tough team. I know that.
Speaker 3 (50:12):
You know, when you look at the win and loss record,
you know they're not good. You know they're in the
bottom of the division. But they're a really good team.
And they have a lot of young talent. I mean,
James Wood is going to be a really really good player,
and you know they're they're pitching. I think is gonna
come along to Gore kind of struggled in the second
half over the last couple of weeks, but I mean
he's a really good pitcher as well. So they have
a lot of young talent. Nationals are gonna be good
in a couple of years.
Speaker 5 (50:32):
Thats suck, and they will trade all those guys because
that's what the Nats do. So just and the Phillies,
and by the way, have won forty, like something like
forty five in the last sixty five against the Nets.
So I don't want to hear about the pesky nts
whatever they steak, but they've been.
Speaker 2 (50:54):
Whatever, right, they're the Pirates. It's just the Colorado Rockies.
Speaker 5 (51:04):
There the give me three more teams, Johnny, Yeah.
Speaker 9 (51:07):
The White Socks, White who one? Yeah? Interesting all very
interesting I talk last night's ninth inning.
Speaker 6 (51:17):
That's that's just that's just like it's a weird one.
Speaker 8 (51:20):
Uh.
Speaker 9 (51:20):
Like that David mentioned it was a really weird play
with real MutS throwing it down the third base line.
H just weird stuff happens in baseball, and that that
to me just felt like one of them.
Speaker 4 (51:28):
Man, John, it's been great talking to you. We'll talk
to you next week. Week one we won, We'll get.
Speaker 6 (51:35):

at the.
Speaker 2 (54:40):
Sports dour hot old. I love the today's world.
Speaker 6 (54:43):
I like it.
Speaker 2 (54:43):
I like it. Okay, let it be noted. Let it
be noted.
Speaker 5 (54:47):
Scottie Scheffler, who is five backer, won last week, won
five times this year, two majors. He's been in the
top ten in thirteen straight start.
Speaker 2 (54:56):
That's insane.
Speaker 5 (54:57):
The longest street since Jack Nicholas in nineteen seventy seven.
Win fourteen and Scotty's probably going to make it fourteen
unless you know, his footballs off or something. What's if
that doesn't happen in the first round on Thursday. Yes,
he made three putts of over twenty five feet, first
time he's ever done that in a PG eight And
(55:19):
he's how far behind Mike five?
Speaker 2 (55:21):
All right? Which for him is which for him makes
him the favorite. So what do we got? What are
the numbers?
Speaker 1 (55:27):
More?
Speaker 2 (55:27):
You got more?
Speaker 5 (55:28):
He started the tournament Before the tournament, Yes, he was
plus one fifty, lowest price since Tiger Woods at the
two thousand and nine Tour Championship, which Tiger did not win,
but he won the feed. They did it different back then.
He won the Big budd and win the actually third
in the event. Phil Mickelson won it, so that's pretty
(55:48):
I mean, he's just like you've said a couple of times, Dick,
he's doing.
Speaker 2 (55:51):
Things sort of like Tiger did back.
Speaker 5 (55:54):
I mean, I wouldn't put anybody in Tigers whatever, but
he's having a hell of a row.
Speaker 2 (55:58):
Okay.
Speaker 5 (55:58):
Fleetwood, who is been trying to win his first event
for what a month now, he's and I'm rooting for
at late Leeds in a couple of Fleetwood and Henley
are tied to thirteen Cam Young, who has stick pointed
out to me he's been playing really trying to make
the Ryder Cup team. He's qualth right now that'll be
coming out later this week. He's eleven. Robert McIntyre who's
been playing really well the left hand. He's ten and
(56:21):
can't Ley's ten, Scheffler's nine or eight?
Speaker 2 (56:23):
No no s Shechffler's say. I wouldn't go any one
of those guys. I wouldn't go. And okay, let me
call it. What kind of price is the way?
Speaker 8 (56:31):
Wait?
Speaker 5 (56:31):
Man, I got to get it up because I lost
it in your hold on. I lost I on my phone?
Speaker 2 (56:36):
What does that mean? We've got Tommy Fleetwood? And how
do you lose a phone?
Speaker 5 (56:41):
I lost the app. He always does this, and he
wonders why I get up, sit and tell him again. Okay,
Fleetwood's plus two and a quarter. I can't bet that,
but I'm rooting for it. Russell is plus two forty.
I probably can't bet that. Scotty's plus five. I can't
bet that. Five to one on it, five to one,
(57:03):
not going for it. Wait a minute, hold on, I
got why is my phone? Why why am I?
Speaker 2 (57:07):
I don't know? I don't know either, but hold on,
write it down next time. I should have written it
down and I didn't, and that's my fault and I'm
an idiot. Well, hold on, that's that's well known.
Speaker 5 (57:16):
If you want to bet Scott you to finish in
the top ten, which of course you.
Speaker 2 (57:20):
Could be since he's done it.
Speaker 5 (57:21):
Yes, minus one thousand, eleven hundred, they go right, bet.
Speaker 2 (57:27):
Eleven hundred, one hundred. I'm not doing that.
Speaker 5 (57:29):
I ain't doing that either, but he ain't finishing out
of top ten?
Speaker 2 (57:33):
Top five? How about top five?
Speaker 5 (57:34):
Think you get a mad minus two fifty minus two fifty.
Speaker 2 (57:37):
That's a little bit. Who are you picking? Okay, give
us a bet.
Speaker 5 (57:40):
I'm rooting for I'm going to go here.
Speaker 2 (57:42):
You're rooting. I want to know you. Would you let
me talk? God, you want to pick one? Now you're there.
Speaker 5 (57:50):
I don't like anybody, but I would say the people
up there, I go with Robert Robert McIntyre at fourteen
fourteen to one fourteen you can get candle stops, can't.
Speaker 2 (58:00):
Le's played well in this thing. At twelve.
Speaker 5 (58:03):
I mean, look, anybody wants to bet against gott he
go ahead, he's given up five. I mean it's right there.
Would Tommy Fleet would please win? Yeah, don't boogie the
last hole. And by the way, my man Ludwig last week,
I don't think he cost me. I finished fifth in
that pool. Mean he doubled boogie the last good to
(58:26):
move down two spots might have cost me. I didn't
go back and figure it. I tell you he loves it.
Come on, man, double boom. On to the Ryder Cup.
Mike that this is the end of the PGA Tour season.
But the Ryder Cup is coming up next month. Yes,
uh on Long Island, right, total May total May. The
(58:46):
Americans got annihilated two years ago in Europe. They but
they won two to the last three in US. Suddenly, Yeah,
they never went in Europe in three decades. Yeah, they
can't win.
Speaker 4 (58:58):
So who is on the team and Keagan Bradley has
to decide the last six six are locked in, got
to call it up. He has to decide the other
six and he could pick himself.
Speaker 5 (59:08):
He's having, he's having and he and he got screwed
two years ago.
Speaker 2 (59:12):
They didn't pick him.
Speaker 5 (59:13):
They didn't pick him for reasons I'm not entirely sure of,
but it was controversial at the time. And the guy
they put on I think was Justin Thomas and play
that well instead of Bradley, instead of Bradley, Well, he
was one of the guys that got left off. Let
me call this up for the second rider, I had
it and then I was But Keegan is I think
(59:36):
eighth or ninth. And there hasn't been a playing Ryder
Cup captain since Arnold Palmer in uh nineteen sixty three.
That's a long time, a long time, and it was
a different world back then. The guys who were on
the team are Scheffler Softly, JJ Spawn, Henley Harrison was
from Bryson d Chambeau, Harrison English. He's a guy fifth
(59:58):
in the stad I've heard of a watch that's okay.
You don't have to watch a lot of gus. So
they're in their locked, they're in. The rumor is that
justin Thomas and more Cowell who are seven and eight,
they're in, are in.
Speaker 2 (01:00:11):
And then you get some interesting ones. And as you
said to me, Dick Ben Griffin who has.
Speaker 5 (01:00:17):
Really been playing well, he's ninth, Maverick McNeely who not
a lot of people but he's tenth, Right Keggins eleven,
Brian Harmon, who I believe was on.
Speaker 2 (01:00:28):
The team two years ago when he won the Breed,
was twelve.
Speaker 4 (01:00:31):
Then you've got worst Cam Young, Cam is fourteen, fourteen,
Andrew Novak is thirteen, Cantley is fifteen. And I would
wager to say it's not it doesn't always go, you know,
the first twelve and some guys.
Speaker 5 (01:00:46):
If I'm Maverick McNeely and maybe that's not fair. I
don't know that life is not life is not fair.
I think Patrick Cantley's got a pretty good shot of
getting on this team.
Speaker 2 (01:00:57):
He's playing well this week, so maybe can't Lee and
Young outside the top twelve might have a shot.
Speaker 5 (01:01:01):
Yeah, and Can'tley Cantley could like win this week. I
mean that's would probably put him in.
Speaker 2 (01:01:05):
I don't. Yeah, can you can you still move up
at this point? Yes? In the Ryder Cup, Steff believe this?
Oh you know what? Or is it locked in at this?
Speaker 8 (01:01:13):
You know?
Speaker 5 (01:01:13):
I could be wrong, It could it might already be
locked in. But if Can'tley finished his third this week,
I think somebody But if I was Keegan Bradley, and
I don't know all that goes into being a captain
and you have assistant captains and all that, and Tiger
turned it down in part because of all the work
that's involved. I'm picking myself, Okay, I'm sorry, because I
(01:01:34):
think he's earned it. You know, the only person who
has more wins than him in the last two years,
more wins than than kicking Bradley shefferd.
Speaker 2 (01:01:42):
That is correct.
Speaker 5 (01:01:43):
Wow about that. I wouldn't have known that. I wouldn't
have known an eater. But I think he's got four.
He's got three or four. Chaffey's only got two, but
they were both made significant.
Speaker 2 (01:01:53):
I would pick.
Speaker 5 (01:01:53):
Myself, but I guess he's got to talk to the assistant.
Speaker 2 (01:01:56):
Captains and are you are you a possibility for the
Ryder Cup. I could be an assistant captain if you
want to.
Speaker 5 (01:02:03):
Could you see me running around Beth Page now yelling
at the europe It would not be good.
Speaker 2 (01:02:09):
It would not be a good situation. I could see.
Would actually I could see you getting in a fight.
I would be very conciliatory. No, you would, Yes, I would.
It's not what you do. You're anger.
Speaker 4 (01:02:21):
Mike kurt on golf everybody for well, we'll have them
back on the the Ryder Cup, but for the time
being they Mike kurt On.
Speaker 2 (01:02:28):
We're taking we're taking taking a little break.
Speaker 4 (01:02:30):
But the good news is football is starting, So we'll
be doing college football for the first half of every
show in the NFL the back end of every show,
as we do every fall. All right on to baseball.
Speaker 5 (01:02:41):
Phillies lead the Mets by six over a couple of
games with the Nats.
Speaker 2 (01:02:44):
And then they play at City Field.
Speaker 4 (01:02:47):
David, is this over or do they need to put
the Mets out of their misery next week?
Speaker 2 (01:02:52):
Need to put the Mets out of their misery next week?
For sure?
Speaker 3 (01:02:56):
You know the bigger thing for the Phillies. I mean,
you want to in my opinion, you want to win
the division. I know people out there that would prefer
a wildcard spot just because of the not having a
buy and keep playing, you know, throughout the season, but
throughout the postseason, I should say, but you really want
to get that that number two seed and get the
buy and right now, I mean when you look at
the standings, they have a game and a half lead
over the Dodgers right now for that second seed. Yes, yep,
(01:03:21):
so you really want to get that number two seed
just because I mean, especially when you look at the
Phillies pitching right now. You don't know about Wheeler. Seems
like we're going to find out some news this week.
But Sanchez has been good throughout the whole entire season.
But Lozardo and Suarez look like they need some rest.
And I think, you know, Nolan needs some innings, but
also too, you just don't know, you know what you're
gonna get from Nol. It's a big start for him tonight,
(01:03:41):
you know when really two great innings in his last
start against the Nationals and the third could only get
one out ended up the Phillies blew a six to
nothing lead. But you know, I think that buy is
so important, not just because you know, you want to
have home field advantage at least, you know, what looks
like the Brewers are probably gonna get the one seed
as of right now. But you want to be able
to give your pitch some rests. I think that's the
biggest thing for the Phillies right now.
Speaker 5 (01:04:02):
We were pitches this year. Something's wrong. I'm not a doctor.
The man has a look Chris Bosh. Basically it ended
his career. Sure, okay, the guy, my guy from France
on the Spurs last year, Gmbiana.
Speaker 2 (01:04:21):
He talk. He it's a blood clot.
Speaker 5 (01:04:24):
These people who were saying, well, you know, we gotta
wait and see what the he had a blood clot removed.
Even if let's say three weeks from now or a
month from now he's doing better.
Speaker 2 (01:04:35):
Why would you risk that? Yeah, I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:04:38):
I don't know enough about this, but it sounds ominous.
Wait it was two words, blood clots.
Speaker 5 (01:04:43):
They don't sound it was bothering him, obviously clear a
couple of weeks before you know, you just say, shut
it down, shut it down.
Speaker 2 (01:04:51):
We'll see you next year. We're gonna try to win
without you.
Speaker 4 (01:04:53):
So David, the Phillies said they're gonna have some potential
have some news about that this week.
Speaker 3 (01:04:58):
That's what I've heard on social media. Yeah, find out more.
But I agree with him, Mike. I think it's very
doubtful that you see him pitch again. And I don't
think I mean, you obviously want Zach Wheeler, and the
most important thing is is his health in general, you know,
not not baseball wise. I don't necessarily think it's doomsday
for the Phillies if he isn't available. I mean, Christopher
Sanchez has really taken that next step. I mean, there
(01:05:18):
was a time a few years ago where I mean
Sanchez was being brought up as an extra man for
a double header. And now I mean he's getting made,
you know, a great amount.
Speaker 2 (01:05:26):
Of money, and he could be huge for them today.
Speaker 5 (01:05:30):
He's the X factor, and he's pitched well and playoffs,
playoffs before and and the other thing. Suarez has pitched
well and please got one of the best. I'm not
saying he's gonna be great. Here's what I would say.
Would the Phillies have a better chance with Weelre obviously
because he's Wheeler. He's the greatest postseason starting pitcher of
this era.
Speaker 2 (01:05:49):
Yes, and so you'd love to have him out.
Speaker 3 (01:05:50):
But he's one of the greatest Phillies free agent signings
of all.
Speaker 5 (01:05:55):
Yeah, and I wasn't for it because he had to
Tommy John River. If you wish me, would I rather
have Wheeler or the closer? The closer they haven't had
that in three years. That however, Thompson's been here. I'm
not saying it's a fair trade, but they have a closer.
If you can get to the ninth inning with the lead,
(01:06:16):
you got a pretty good chance to win the last night.
So again, I think they can still win. I think
it's always going to come down to they're hitting.
Speaker 4 (01:06:27):
That's the good news is Scott has starting to really hit.
Real Muto has been very good for a couple of months.
Speaker 2 (01:06:33):
But what have we seen in October? That's the problem.
Speaker 5 (01:06:36):
Their guys have been good at the left fielder has
they've been good the last month or two.
Speaker 2 (01:06:42):
Real Malto's hitting two seventy.
Speaker 4 (01:06:45):
Having a phenomenal back end of the season in a
contract year.
Speaker 2 (01:06:48):
It's it's amazing.
Speaker 5 (01:06:49):
But yeah, I mean, the Phillies are gonna have some
really tough decisions.
Speaker 2 (01:06:53):
But he's getting paid.
Speaker 6 (01:06:55):
All right.
Speaker 2 (01:06:55):
Let's go over the standings.
Speaker 4 (01:06:56):
Uh Toronto five clear of Boston five and a half
over the Yankees and the Al East.
Speaker 5 (01:07:02):
Yankees just lost two in home to the Sackeys. They did,
they got shut out last night. Second half so far, yeah,
sixty nine to fifty nine. They're only ten games over
five hundred Detroit, ten and a half over Cleveland.
Speaker 4 (01:07:13):
They have the best record in the American League by
two games over Or Dame and a half over Toronto.
Houston lead Seattle by two games in the AL West.
Everybody else is out of it. Philly six over the Mets. Milwaukee, David, you.
Speaker 5 (01:07:30):
Just mentioned this, they have eighty one wins. They're eighty
one and forty eight.
Speaker 2 (01:07:36):
The funny party.
Speaker 3 (01:07:37):
Nobody thinks they're any good. Yeah, the funny part exactly.
And they don't have any flashy names. But they play
baseball the right way, play small ball, They move runners over.
Their pitching staff has been really really good this year.
What you think is surprising people. Milwaukee's a really really
good team. They're gonna be a tough out.
Speaker 2 (01:07:51):
Yeah, they look like they're a locked in home field.
Speaker 4 (01:07:53):
I mean there's seven basically seven clear of the Phillies
for home field. As we're heading to what we got
like forty games left, uh, forty eight.
Speaker 2 (01:08:02):
So twelve forty two.
Speaker 4 (01:08:03):
Maybe there's around there, thank it. We're more like thirty something. Really, yeah,
we're one twenty eight for the more did the Cubby
suit the Kubbies would be in the playoffs, they're seven behind.
I'll get to the walk card a second. Dodgers and
the and the Padres are dead heat at seventy three
fifty six in the West wild Card. For those interested
in such things, Boston is a game over Seattle. The
(01:08:27):
Yankees have a half a game over Seattle. In the
American League, Kansas City's three back, then Cleveland at four.
And in the National League, the Cubs, to Mike's point,
they're five and a half clear of the Mets, four
and a half clear of Padres, are four and a
half clear of the Mets, and the Mets are only
a game and a half over Cincinnati for the final
wild card.
Speaker 2 (01:08:48):
So they really need to win some games.
Speaker 4 (01:08:50):
They are sixty eight and sixty have had a brutal
I don't know, two months.
Speaker 2 (01:08:56):
They've been bad. It's been about that. Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:08:58):
Yeah, they had the one good for like two weeks
and then and that was like three or four weeks ago,
and then they've just been.
Speaker 4 (01:09:05):
They lost fourteen or sixteen at one part will point
out they are just horrible.
Speaker 2 (01:09:10):
The Phillies do not win.
Speaker 5 (01:09:12):
At that, can't hit, they have a tough time up there,
and how many were playing three Wednesday but then four
back here?
Speaker 2 (01:09:20):
In like another way, I think it.
Speaker 5 (01:09:23):
Look, if the Phillies win three of oh seven, I
think they're fine. If the Metsicans somehow win five of
them and maybe I guess, then you start to think, ay.
Speaker 2 (01:09:34):
But the Phillies closing schedule is like not the Twins,
and then that, yeah, they got nobody. I mean, come on, yeah,
it's bad.
Speaker 3 (01:09:40):
Can I tell a team that I think sneaky the
playoff race? American League? Kansas City, I mean, they're really
getting around. They're seven and three in the last ten.
Seattle is going backwards. And the biggest thing for Seattle the
last few years has been it's pitching staff. And their
pitching staff is just abysmal right now. I mean, you
saw them at you know, the Phillies at Citizens Bank Park, YEP.
Their bullpen has a hard time throwing st Their offense
(01:10:01):
is good, me Ao Haneo Suarez is good. They have
some nice pieces, you know, obviously Julio Rodriguez, but they're
going backwards right now. The Yankees are also going backwards
as well. So Kansas City, they're getting hot at the
right time. That's what it's about. I mean, you saw,
you know, Phillies a couple of years ago in twenty
twenty two and into the third wildcard spot. It's about
what happens, and you know a lot of part of
August and in September. Kansas City's playing its best ball
right now.
Speaker 5 (01:10:21):
Philly remember this in twenty two they backed into it
from the last day.
Speaker 2 (01:10:25):
They didn't.
Speaker 5 (01:10:25):
Milwaukee let him in basically, and then they had that
indn't even against the Cardinals when the Cardinal manager lost
his mind.
Speaker 1 (01:10:31):
And then it was just.
Speaker 4 (01:10:33):
Let's go, let's beat them, let's beat the Bridge, let's
beat them.
Speaker 5 (01:10:37):
Point out the Phillies in the series. And I was
at the one game against Seattle on Monday night. Yeah,
they had twenty hits in two of the games, which
I think they hadn't done in whatever. Their three starting
pitchers all had ten strikeouts, yeah, which they hadn't done.
Speaker 2 (01:10:51):
I don't know whatever. I mean, they annihilates, yeah I did.
It wasn't even.
Speaker 5 (01:10:56):
Like it was a series which surprised me a little.
Speaker 2 (01:10:59):
But there's a change. I could win the A L S.
Speaker 3 (01:11:01):
Seattle if they I mean, I think they are going backwards,
but there's a chance.
Speaker 5 (01:11:04):
I mean, I'm moving for Kansas City and Seattle and
the Yankees not maybe I want to like I shot
with the Yankees, Like the Royals. I like it when
teams like the Royals make the playoffs because they I don't.
Speaker 2 (01:11:15):
Know, because they're spending no money.
Speaker 4 (01:11:17):
The answers are paying Aaron Judge more than the Royals
are paying their entire roster.
Speaker 5 (01:11:20):
Prob Aaron Judge. I don't think I forgot they were
in the World Series. I said, I don't think they're
going to get rid of Aaron Judge. Even if they
don't get rid of Aaron Jokes.
Speaker 2 (01:11:30):
Is that even a question in New York.
Speaker 5 (01:11:32):
He's got like a million year contract. No, no, no, no, sorry,
Boom the manager. I don't think they're necessarily going to
go and get let go to manager.
Speaker 2 (01:11:41):
Just if the season falls apart, cashman is in the
hot seat, for sure. It's a tradition, fire the manager,
fire the gentleman. They don't do that anymore. If George
not not as his sons aren't like How's not like Jordan.
That's a fact. All right.
Speaker 5 (01:11:54):
Here's the futures World Series. Dodgers still the favorite.
Speaker 2 (01:11:58):
Of course.
Speaker 5 (01:11:58):
They are three to one, Brewers Philly seven to one, Tigers, Yankees,
Blue Jays ten to one, Mariner's eleven.
Speaker 2 (01:12:07):
And I'm with you, David.
Speaker 4 (01:12:09):
I think they have fraud potcho Padres twelve.
Speaker 2 (01:12:13):
I love their lineup. I'm not sure about their pitch.
Just to win the whole thing, Dick, correct, Not just
to get the whole series, win it all.
Speaker 4 (01:12:19):
Houston fourteen, Mets fourteen, Cubs sixteen, and then you get
into the Red Sox at twenty two, and then after.
Speaker 2 (01:12:26):
That, I don't know what the Cincinnati seventy five.
Speaker 4 (01:12:28):
Your Kansas City's are one hundred, one hundred to one,
and you think they got.
Speaker 2 (01:12:33):
A shot to get in the playoffs. If you're in
the playoffs, you know who.
Speaker 5 (01:12:36):
I let anything the Tigers at ten to one because
they're playing good now. They had their they had that
two weeks where they stunk. Every team does, and I
don't think the American League is a tough now could
they beat the National League?
Speaker 2 (01:12:50):
Clearly? Right?
Speaker 8 (01:12:51):
So?
Speaker 5 (01:12:51):
I mean Detroit maybe to get to the World Series
might be like four to one. I mean, the odds
would obviously be less. I'll tell you what, So who
would you bet? Would you bet the Phillies at seven
or the Milwaukee's at seven?
Speaker 2 (01:13:04):
It's a really good question.
Speaker 5 (01:13:06):
Uh.
Speaker 4 (01:13:08):
I'd probably take the Phillies because they have the postseason experience,
which Milwaukee's team doesn't. But you know what, sometimes just
the best team is the best team, isn't that interest
this was basketball, I would say Milwaukee probably is the
best team almost always wins.
Speaker 2 (01:13:22):
But this ain't basketball. Well, I don't know if the
best team.
Speaker 5 (01:13:24):
Rarely wins with the team with the best ract do
we know that Milwaukee? Oh yeah, I see what you're saying.
Speaker 2 (01:13:28):
I got you. They've proved it over along. Dodgers are
going to go down. I'm telling you the Dodgers are good. Good?
Speaker 5 (01:13:33):
What was San Diego? I missed that with eleven? What
did you take San Diego over to Dodgers?
Speaker 2 (01:13:39):
Twelve? Yeah?
Speaker 4 (01:13:40):
Twelve?
Speaker 1 (01:13:40):
Yeah?
Speaker 2 (01:13:40):
I would they might be better team. I think they
are the better team. Something. Just to go back really quickly.
Hear about Detroit.
Speaker 3 (01:13:46):
I mean Detroit is forty one and twenty two against
the American League East A good Division and the American
League Central twenty five and thirteen against the Central and Inner.
Speaker 2 (01:13:55):
League Play twenty one and eighteen.
Speaker 3 (01:13:57):
Yeah, so when they're playing better than their in the
National League, they're struggling.
Speaker 2 (01:14:01):
I'm a little concerned about Yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:14:04):
I mean they're they're a great team, don't get me wrong,
but I'm a little worried about it.
Speaker 5 (01:14:07):
But they shouldn't be ten to one. I don't think
how can the Dodgers be three and well? The San
Diego test player in baseball get it. The reason is
they're the hype team.
Speaker 4 (01:14:18):
That's right and that and look, all bet Parks is
doing is putting out and they're trying to gauge what
the they do. I still want to bet the Dodgers
absolute because they're they're If I walked.
Speaker 5 (01:14:30):
Up the window and I'm gonna you're telling me the
teams are in a day heat right now, Yes, and
you're one team at twelve, one team at three. Correct,
San Diego seems like the better Diego doesn't win.
Speaker 2 (01:14:40):
I still made the good player.
Speaker 4 (01:14:41):
Correct, and that's the object here. Put yourself in the
correct position to win money. It's what I love about
gambling in general. David uh it's not hard to keep score.
If you have more money than you're started with you didn't.
Speaker 5 (01:14:55):
It's not And sometimes, David, the worst part is and
tell you this, because he in whose tracy you can
make the right back.
Speaker 4 (01:15:02):
And look and lose and nature. It's just the way
it kind of goes. All right, David, I'm gonna show
you a picture.
Speaker 2 (01:15:09):
Okay, that's the picture I was talking secretary.
Speaker 4 (01:15:11):
From the nineteen seventy three Belmont Steaks. See the other horses?
Can you see that barely? Do you see the job
very right corner of the screen. You see him looking back, Yeah,
looking back to see if anybody's coming.
Speaker 2 (01:15:21):
We talked earlier about Ron Turky.
Speaker 5 (01:15:23):
Ron could have stopped. Ron could have stopped. Yesterday I
started again and won by three lanes. Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:15:28):
It's one of the most famous photos in sports. It
was taken on the.
Speaker 2 (01:15:31):
From the inside. Who did do you know who took
it was?
Speaker 4 (01:15:34):
It was the New York Racing Association photographer, guy named
Bob Conckleles.
Speaker 2 (01:15:37):
What do you think.
Speaker 5 (01:15:38):
I hope that won the wards? It did a lot
of them. Yeah, yeah.
Speaker 3 (01:15:42):
What do you think about the travelers today?
Speaker 5 (01:15:44):
It's the travers But that's Okay, the Travers steaks you're
talking about.
Speaker 2 (01:15:48):
I'm impressed that you know. There's the Travels Loses a
golf torn but it's close enough.
Speaker 4 (01:15:52):
Trust the Travers was named after God named Colonel Travers
from back in the day. I think I don't even
know anyway. It's the big steak race. It's called the
Midsumber Derby. It's the biggest race for.
Speaker 2 (01:16:02):
Three year olds outside of the triple crowd today.
Speaker 5 (01:16:07):
When Fox Sovereignty won the Derby and won the Belmont
is in against four other horses, three of whom have
no chance.
Speaker 2 (01:16:16):
And there's a horse name Magnitude.
Speaker 5 (01:16:18):
If you're watching the race, David, and Magnitude is on
the back stretch and like three lengths in front.
Speaker 2 (01:16:25):
He's dangerous.
Speaker 5 (01:16:27):
See the loan speed in the race. He could be
I'm not one hundred percent sure. There's not another speed
in the race that could keep him company.
Speaker 2 (01:16:33):
If nobody does, he can win.
Speaker 4 (01:16:37):
If somebody does, he has no shot.
Speaker 5 (01:16:38):
With Sovereignty will be I would think two to five Maybetheless,
what is his morning line?
Speaker 2 (01:16:47):
Do you know what will Magnitude go off?
Speaker 5 (01:16:50):
Magnitude be two to one, yeah, which is not a
great price.
Speaker 4 (01:16:52):
And the other three each others. Man, I forget the
other three. I mean one of them could be second.
If magnitude collapses, then one it could be second. But yeah,
if Sovereignty doesn't win, it will be one of the
biggest Well, it would be the biggest upset up there
since American Pharaoh got beaten the Travers ten years ago,
which is still I was there for that. It's still hard.
I wanted to play that even fox fox Yep, yeah,
(01:17:15):
fox Set will have the Travers to day. But thank
you for asking that question. Were NFL coming up after
our final break Thursday, September the fourth, Finally, Mike Karrent
will be happy.
Speaker 2 (01:17:29):
Have you watched one second of exhibition football?
Speaker 5 (01:17:31):
I saw that play last night where the guys saved
the overtime.
Speaker 2 (01:17:35):
G Were you watching this live? No? All right, you
saw you saw a replay. Why would I want?
Speaker 5 (01:17:41):
I'm just asked, David. Have you watched any exhibition.
Speaker 2 (01:17:45):
First the first game against Cincinnati? Did? Yeah?
Speaker 3 (01:17:48):
I mean, obviously you can't put much stock into it
as anybody not played again, No, he hasn't played. No,
McKee looked really good in the first game. I think
McCord played last night, and I think the second game too.
Speaker 2 (01:18:01):
I like McKay's a good player.
Speaker 4 (01:18:02):
Yeah, No, I mean I think he looks like a
lot of teams would like him as a starting quarterback
some day.
Speaker 2 (01:18:06):
You think New Orleans. New Orleans is starting Spencer Rattler,
he's their starter. I think I think they named him
as the starter. Good luck to good luck to Kellen Moore,
Richardson as well. He's done.
Speaker 5 (01:18:21):
Daniel just one there, got acted by the worst team
in football and it's now starting for India.
Speaker 1 (01:18:27):
Yeah.
Speaker 5 (01:18:27):
But the guy, the Jackson Dart, apparently people are starting
to get excited about my main Jackson Dart.
Speaker 2 (01:18:33):
Who knew Russell's gonna start.
Speaker 5 (01:18:35):
Right, I think he will. But the other guy has
looked good. You know he has five jobs, five drop
balls the other night, and you know he in completed six,
so there was only one that he always liked, Jackson Dark.
I don't know what I know, big old miss fan.
Speaker 2 (01:18:53):
You know college, what guy's doing college? Who knows? Sometimes
does a computer.
Speaker 5 (01:18:59):
There's some big quote backs in this league. The real
we are. I mean, Thor Sanders can't start in Cleveland.
He was going to be the number one pick in
the draft, and now he can't start ahead of Joe
Flacco and the guy from Washington was.
Speaker 4 (01:19:12):
A game Oregon, dun Gabe, I mean left hander Oklahoma
the pick keeping four quarterbacks and they're paying another guy
the most money of all of them.
Speaker 2 (01:19:24):
That's true, you're that's where they are, five quarterbacks. Well done,
my bid. Talk about a clueless operation.
Speaker 4 (01:19:29):
All right, we're gonna take it one final break and
then we'll be back Grand Finale. The bet Parks Online
casino and sports book is the only I ever recommend,

app I recommend must be twenty one and an nj PA, Maryland,
Ohio or Michigan Gambling problem one eight hundred gambler Dick
Jordan with Mike curR and David Shapatsky joining us for
the first time, making his debut a winning one.
Speaker 2 (01:22:03):
And here's the good news.
Speaker 4 (01:22:05):
In twelve days, our long national nightmare is the Eagles
will take the field for the first time since they
demolished the Kansas City Chiefs in the Super Bowl. Final
score was forty to twenty two. The reality was the
score was thirty four to nothing. That's the only score
(01:22:25):
that should matter that anybody will ever remember. Mike, how
excited are you to get to watch the Eagles in
twelve day?
Speaker 5 (01:22:32):
Well, you know, we here in Philadelphia don't very often
get a chance to have defending champions. Yeah, I mean,
you know in eighteen we did for the first time,
well first time in the Super.
Speaker 2 (01:22:44):
Bowler the Phillies, you know, did it know?
Speaker 5 (01:22:48):
Nine and Phillies actually made it back to the World Series,
and you know, so that was pretty successful. I think
the Eagles are as good as anybody in the NFL.
Speaker 2 (01:22:59):
Now, last year.
Speaker 5 (01:23:00):
They were superior. I mean, the Chiefs had a great
year because they did it you know, a moxie or whatever.
They did it on. There was other teams that were very,
very good, but Eagles were the best team and they
almost lost the Rams. But again they basically swept the
field after the first four games.
Speaker 4 (01:23:17):
Fifty five on Washington, forty on Kansas City could have
been on.
Speaker 5 (01:23:22):
Now will the defense be the number one defense? Probably not,
But will it be like the seventh or.
Speaker 2 (01:23:27):
Eighth or ninth best defense? Well the offense.
Speaker 5 (01:23:29):
Will Barkley run for two thousand, probably not, But will
we run for twenty five hundred? The history history is
so much against him with the guys who have had
the number of touches he had last year to year.
But again, maybe he's Barkley Superman. Maybe he's that special guy.
We'll see the line.
Speaker 2 (01:23:47):
You know.
Speaker 5 (01:23:48):
We know some guys are gonna miss time because the injuries.
Lane always misses three games.
Speaker 4 (01:23:51):
Legendary running back for the first time in his life
behind one of a great offensive line and therefore add
it all up two thousand yards.
Speaker 2 (01:24:00):
So you're excited, but you want to see it. You'll
be there. I want one.
Speaker 5 (01:24:03):
I think come January the Eagles are going to be
in the playoffs and have a chance. You know, are
they going to be the best team? You know what's
going to happen with Detroit? What's going to happen with Minnesota?
They won fIF fifteen and fourteen games last year too?
Can the Packers get better? Everybody thinks the Packers? Well, Washington,
(01:24:24):
will they? Will they go back?
Speaker 2 (01:24:25):
Will they? Was that a one off?
Speaker 5 (01:24:28):
I don't think Jane Daniels is a one off? But
it is McLarens today. Simon McLaren still nuts and that's what.
And again, Parsons, who you thought you might see in
twelve days, you might not see twelve because Parsons not
practicing with the Cowboys practicing. I don't think he's practicing,
but I think they're saying, who knows?
Speaker 2 (01:24:49):
David? Your debut on sports chair there everywhere? Great?
Speaker 4 (01:24:52):
Uh, let's hear your thoughts. How excited are you? As
a guy I grew up around there? You're an Eagles guy?
Ale excited are you to see that play? I mean,
I'm super super excited. I mean, I'm pumped up. I mean,
I really think you described it really well, Mike. I
mean has filled up these sports fans. We go through
a lot of suffering and it's not often that you know,
you had this opportunity to be the defending champs and
(01:25:14):
really see how the season goes. But you know, the
weather the past couple of weeks has felt like football weather,
and it's just really getting you in the mood for
for Week one coming up. And who better to play
than your biggest rivals, the Cowboys in Week one, and
you know, especially if Parsons doesn't play, I mean, the
Eagles have a great shot. So I mean, I'm just
really really excited for this season. You know, I think,
you know, time will tell how good the defense will be.
But I mean, you know, Cooper Degen had a great
(01:25:34):
year last year. We'll see if he can keep that up.
I mean blanketship obviously in the backfield as well.
Speaker 3 (01:25:38):
But you know, when you look at everything, you know
offensively for the Eagles, well, really, I think one of
the biggest questions is does you know is Aj Brown healthy?
You know, and I don't think we're talking about that
a whole lot because I mean, this is a hamstring
injury that hurt him last year, that he you know,
I think there was a report out there, I don't
know exactly who was by, but that he was getting
a shot before every playoff game to be able to
(01:26:00):
play with the hamstring. And you know, that's a big
deal because we were talking about how good Devonte Smith
has been. But if AJ Brown is not out there,
Devonte Smith is no longer. I don't think as good
of a weapon as we know he can be because
teams are obviously gonna focus on a more. So that's
a big question I think heading into Week one, is
you know, is a J.
Speaker 2 (01:26:15):
Brown health?
Speaker 3 (01:26:16):
I mean, I think the Eagles have ever a great
shot regardless if he is, But I mean Saquon Barkley,
I'm excited to see him back there as well.
Speaker 5 (01:26:23):
The eighteen season fell apart right quickly because of the
quarterback problem with Wentz coming off the end whatever. I
don't think this season is gonna fall. But the Eagles
may only win eleven. I mean the numbers eleven five,
I think them Detroit, but they're like three to eleven
and a half, and that's about a good number. I think.
Speaker 2 (01:26:42):
You know, the Chiefs won fifteen games.
Speaker 5 (01:26:44):
They're not gonna win fifteen games this year, but they
might be a better team.
Speaker 2 (01:26:48):
What matters is.
Speaker 5 (01:26:49):
How good are you in January? When that's all sports anymore?
Just just about Maybe basketball not as much because the
best teams in basketball tend.
Speaker 2 (01:26:57):
To team in the best record, almost always tends to
be the best team. But again, can the Eagles.
Speaker 5 (01:27:03):
You know they're gonna probably have some injuries. We just
saw the Phillies get a dramatic injury when we didn't
expect it. They could effect I expect the Eagles to
beat there. Will they be the best team in the NFC?
Speaker 2 (01:27:14):
Maybe? Maybe not?
Speaker 5 (01:27:16):
Uh can If McCarthy can play for the Vikings, they're
gonna be good. Their rosters as good as any roster
in the league. Detroit last years, eighteen defensive players, the injury,
who knows, and they still won fifteen games.
Speaker 2 (01:27:30):
They did.
Speaker 4 (01:27:30):
They were the dominant team until they end til they
just fell apart.
Speaker 2 (01:27:34):
Washington.
Speaker 4 (01:27:34):
Yeah, at their defense of the playoff game? Are Eagles?
This is not change from the beginning. This line was
out at bet Parks months Ago minus seven against Dallas.
Nothing seems to affect that one way or another. Like,
I know you're on the losing the game or a
lock on.
Speaker 2 (01:27:50):
The money line. You gotta lay a number there on
the money line.
Speaker 5 (01:27:53):
Yeah, do you have a thought here, David Dallas plus
seven Eagles minus seven at bet Parks.
Speaker 3 (01:28:01):
You know, it's always so tough to just for me personally,
because I mean, it is a rivalry game, and I
think Dallas is gonna come big here in week one.
We'll see, obviously, if Parsons is going to play, and
I think that you know, in Dallas, you know, as
much as you know us Philadelphians aren't fond of them.
Of course, you know, Dak Prescott I think has a
lot to prove because you know, obviously the last couple
(01:28:22):
of years have not gone his way, and this is
a pivotal turning point in my opinion. His career is
how the Cowboys played this year, and a lot of
it is riding on him. You know, We'll see how
he does with the weapons that he has. But I
tend to think this game is going to come down
to the fourth quarter. I don't think it's gonna be
a blowout. By any means. I'll say the Eagles win
by three when it's all said and done, But I
(01:28:44):
don't think Dallas. Yeah, I don't think that's gonna cause
at least I want to panic if that's the result.
It's early in the season, but I think this is
gonna be a closer game.
Speaker 5 (01:28:53):
That Parsons doesn't play and the Eagles lose. They don't
think the lose. But here's when Dak has been healthy.
You go back to the last five or six years.
The Tech Cowboys have won twelve games all those years,
and he's had good They stink in the playoffs, you know,
that's what we remember. They've they've whatever, but their regular
(01:29:13):
seasons have been good. Absolutely, and the NFC East, of course,
in twenty one years, there hasn't been a repeat whatever
the Eagles should have repeated two years ago when they
were ten one.
Speaker 2 (01:29:24):
I don't worry about that.
Speaker 5 (01:29:25):
I don't worry about And but if Parsons doesn't play
for whatever, if Jerry screws this upard eight or whatever,
they've got a problem because then Sakuon might run for
two hundred in the first game.
Speaker 4 (01:29:37):
Because so speaking of Dallas, Mike, you don't have Netflix, Dude, No,
I do so eight episode series The Gambler and His Team.
It's about Jerry Jones and the Cowboys after he bought
them in the late eighties. His first year they went
one in fifteen, fired eight man, whether he fired Andrew
(01:30:00):
whad he got there and hired his college teammate.
Speaker 2 (01:30:04):
Jimmy Johnson from Oklahoma from Montmarket, one of the best
hires obviously.
Speaker 4 (01:30:08):
And then it's a fascinating series because even today and
the Cowboys haven't won a Super Bowl in three decades,
haven't gotten Sea title, haven't gotten the NFC title game,
and since the last championship, they're still It's a continuing
soap opera, which is what Jerry Jones likes. It's why
I'm convinced he loves Holdout, which his franchise worth eight
(01:30:30):
billion or ten the most of sports, right right.
Speaker 2 (01:30:33):
Yeah.
Speaker 4 (01:30:34):
And I mean he's a fascinating character himself. He's like
eighty six and you kind of watch him age during
this documentary over eight episodes, all the crazy stuff with
Michael Irvin and the what do they call it, the
White House, the place where they were near the old
the old practice facility where the guys just Wrent. They
owned a house and things happened there that were's supposed
(01:30:56):
to be have among other places. But eight men was
was raided. This documentary, Michael Irvin was sensational. Emmitt Smith,
I mean, these are three of the all time great
players in NFL history, but they've been they have just
been underachievers for three decades now. And the game and
they might They show this at length on the documentary.
Speaker 2 (01:31:19):
The team two years ago that.
Speaker 4 (01:31:21):
Caught the Eagles and passed them to win the NFC East.
All of a sudden, they have home playoff game. They
had like a fifteen game home winning streak. They're playing
the Packers. They're a big favorite, and they got housed.
They got a Nile.
Speaker 2 (01:31:36):
I was listening to. I was listening to game on
the road. In the game, doc threw have picked six
terrible And then last year was a disaster. What Prescott
got hurt.
Speaker 5 (01:31:45):
People don't remember when you win twelve games and win
the division.
Speaker 2 (01:31:48):
They don't care. Now, Uh, you know we're like that
here too.
Speaker 4 (01:31:52):
I mean, so are we buying Are we buying that
Dallas is a contender because they're not listed that way
on the future Bets at the NFL at all.
Speaker 5 (01:32:03):
This is the way I feel about And I know
how you say, Dick, that things don't mean when something
happens for twenty some years and it happened two years ago.
Speaker 2 (01:32:10):
Yep, when he was now thirty.
Speaker 5 (01:32:11):
And the Eagles should win the d They're probably the
best team in their division. But if you said to
me Washington or Dallas is going to win the division,
you wouldn't be shocked.
Speaker 2 (01:32:19):
I wouldn't be shocked. Giants.
Speaker 5 (01:32:20):
You if you're asking me, do I think Dallas is
a contender to get to the super Bowl, my answer
would be.
Speaker 2 (01:32:25):
No, Yeah, no, I agree. I just thought.
Speaker 4 (01:32:27):
I mean, and look, the history, as Mike points out,
is one thing, and maybe they're just not that good.
Speaker 2 (01:32:31):
Maybe they don't. And that was part of this documentary.
Speaker 4 (01:32:35):
Jerry Jones is not only owns the team, he's the
president and he's the general manager. And one of the
big bones of contention why he eventually Jermy Johnson part
of the ways because each wanted credit for winning the
Super Bowl.
Speaker 2 (01:32:48):
I mean, really, that's what it is.
Speaker 4 (01:32:49):
Well, he won't won with Barry Schwitz, I get it,
I mean, which is what he because he said, I
forgot this Mike. He said, any of fifty coaches gonna
won the Super Bowl.
Speaker 5 (01:32:58):
That's what cuts you years they thought, here's what he thought.
If Jimmy had stayed there, they might have won a
couple mores.
Speaker 2 (01:33:06):
I mean they had. It's the part of the documentary,
the unanswered.
Speaker 5 (01:33:09):
It's funny we talked about Jalen r I was just
thinking about this, jal think about Troy Aikman, Hall of Famer,
one great quarterback, but he was never kind of never
put Giants think about this.
Speaker 2 (01:33:21):
What did he have?
Speaker 5 (01:33:22):
Had a great offensive line, Their line was great, He
had a great, great running back. Then he had a
great receiver, Michael Irving, great tight end. Their defense was great.
Who's that?
Speaker 2 (01:33:32):
That's the.
Speaker 5 (01:33:34):
Jalen Hurts was at the running b. Jalen Hurts can run.
And the NFL has changed in thirty years. You couldn't
you know. Troy Aikman now is the guy in the
Chargers or the guy on on Cincinnati.
Speaker 2 (01:33:43):
But when you are surrounded.
Speaker 5 (01:33:46):
By great and usually great players are like I remember
when John Elway was on Denver and he kind of
elevated Denver to places maybe that they shouldn't have been.
But then they got pounded, and then all of a
sudden he had a running back. They ran for two
thousand yards, and all of a sudden they wanted to
super It's amazing how that happens, and.
Speaker 4 (01:34:03):
It's a futures NFL Eagles favored at six and a
half to one.
Speaker 2 (01:34:07):
We all agree that that they should be.
Speaker 4 (01:34:09):
I mean that that Ravens it Bills at seven Ravens
and Bills at seven, Chiefs at eight.
Speaker 2 (01:34:14):
I still find that a little weird.
Speaker 4 (01:34:16):
Detroit eleven, I agree, San Francisco's seventeen, along with Washington.
Speaker 2 (01:34:20):
I think San Francisco's Cincinnati and.
Speaker 4 (01:34:22):
Green Bay at twenty along with La Rams. Where's Minnesota
Denver twenty eight? Minnesota twenty eight to one. I'll tell
you Houston thirty Chargers, thirty Buccaneers, thirty Bears, forty, Steelers
forty five.
Speaker 2 (01:34:37):
What team haven't you heard yet? The Cowboys are fifty
to one. I'll tell you the one. I'll tell you
to one or less than the Steelers.
Speaker 5 (01:34:46):
The one on there I find really interesting, Yeah, is
the Vikings at twenty eight. Because the Vikings over under
number I think is eleven and a half. I'm not
totally sure that now again, they got.
Speaker 2 (01:34:56):
Their problem is the division. It's so brutal.
Speaker 5 (01:34:58):
The division's brutal year the division.
Speaker 2 (01:35:00):
Was well, it wasn't the Bears weren't.
Speaker 5 (01:35:03):
They won fourteen games. But again I think this is
like your coach this year. The team that it's setting
up for is Buffalo. Buffalo has an e for reasons
I don't understand. They have an easier schedule. They should
be able to get the top seed in the AFC,
which means, if nothing else, people got to come to them. Now,
(01:35:25):
Kansas City's going there and won. I understand that, but
that's a big deal because if Kansas City gets the
top seed and people got to.
Speaker 2 (01:35:32):
Go to our head, look, yeah, exactly, good good luck,
all right?
Speaker 4 (01:35:36):
Opening Week Eagles minus seven, Thursday the fourth. The next
day in Brazil, Kansas City minus three against Jim Harball
and the l A Chargers. Mike thoughts on that contest.
Speaker 5 (01:35:47):
I always lean to I like Carboy, I like what
we all thought he would because he Carbo wins.
Speaker 2 (01:35:52):
That's what you do. But man, I'm not betting.
Speaker 5 (01:35:54):
I never bet against Kansas City.
Speaker 2 (01:35:56):
That's just me.
Speaker 5 (01:35:56):
I like they're going to They're going to believe or Brazil.
Who the hell knows what's going to South America. I
think this is my opinion. Patrick Mahomes has a chip
on his shoulder. He's embarrassed by what happened. True, doesn't
mean they're gonna win it, but I think he's got
reasons to play, and they've got some of their parts back.
Speaker 2 (01:36:18):
They seem like they have.
Speaker 5 (01:36:19):
Everybody seems to agree they have a better team than
they had last year.
Speaker 4 (01:36:23):
Uh David, Kansas City minus three charges.
Speaker 3 (01:36:26):
Kansas City for me to three and a half seems
really low there for the Chargers. And I know, Mike,
you were saying the guy from from Los Angeles, the
guy in the Chargers. But Herbert just hasn't proven to
me yet that he can say, you know, consistently healthy and.
Speaker 5 (01:36:38):
Won seventeen straight one possession game. Now the Super Bowl
wasn't a one possession yea, it was not. It's a
five possession It was a twenty possession game. But again,
until somebody has to prove to me that Herbert can
go Aaron beat, so what Patrick Mahomes?
Speaker 2 (01:36:57):
Yeah, So why do you like? What's your what's your thing?
Speaker 3 (01:37:00):
Well, I agree with you about Mahomes. You know, the
chip on the shoulder I think is real. But also
I mean their defense. Bagnolia always has their defense ready
to go and playing good football. And you know, I
know that we didn't say we didn't see it in
the Super Bowl obviously, but the road there, I mean,
I think this team once again, I don't know if
the weapons around Mahomes are are good. I mean, I
think we can have that conversation again if if he
(01:37:20):
has enough weapons, but he's Patrick Mahomes, so I don't
think it really matters. But defensively, you know, Kansas City,
I think that's probably their biggest strength besides Mahomes. And
I just like their defense against the Chargers back in
this game. Like I said, I haven't bought in yet
on Justin Herbert.
Speaker 2 (01:37:34):
We'll see.
Speaker 3 (01:37:34):
I think he can be a good player, I agree,
but also there's been a lot of distraction around him.
Speaker 5 (01:37:41):
The last week's defense was not the reason they lost
the Super Bowl at all. I mean, the Eagles were
getting three and out free and out free and out
well sacks in right, it was only a thirteen, and
if my memory's right, it was a ten and nothing
or nothing, and then they got their shot and they
got the two interceptions.
Speaker 2 (01:37:58):
Back to.
Speaker 3 (01:37:59):
Something just to really quickly go back here about the futures.
San Francisco seems really hot. I think they're hot, doesn't it.
I mean, I know, I like them. I know that
the Packers in Minnesota obviously in the same division, so
that complicates things. But sure they're both better than San
Francisco in my opinion.
Speaker 5 (01:38:14):
So well, if if the quarterback for the Rams is hurt,
if that turns out, that means they probably have a
decian's chance to win that division because I don't think
much of Seattle or much of Arizona. But seventeen to
one for team, that's you know, and I get it.
Two years ago they were really good, and they've been
really good.
Speaker 2 (01:38:32):
But almost won the Super Altar.
Speaker 3 (01:38:34):
Yeah, I mean, but if McCaffrey's healthy, that's obviously a
game changer for them because when he was, I mean,
they went far. But similar to Herbert, I mean, party
just doesn't do it for oh.
Speaker 2 (01:38:44):
I like Party, I do. I think trash. I have
no problem.
Speaker 5 (01:38:48):
I got no problem with Purdy okay and the coach.
I got no problem with the page. He's been great
wherever he's been. He just hasn't been on the one
in the last game. Yet other than that, I mean
they were injuries. We talk about Detroit injuries. Yes, they
were just crushed. Other opening week games.
Speaker 4 (01:39:01):
The late Fox game on Sunday, opening weekend, Detroit minus
won at green Bay.
Speaker 5 (01:39:08):
Really good. Green Bay beat a good team late or
about to find out.
Speaker 4 (01:39:12):
Detroit loses the coordinators, but every all the defenders are back,
David Detroit minus one at green.
Speaker 3 (01:39:19):
Bay gonna go green Bay here. Yeah, I just think,
you know, Lambo is gonna be rocking.
Speaker 2 (01:39:25):
You know.
Speaker 3 (01:39:26):
Jordan Love coming back I think is big for them.
I mean you really have to remember, I mean the
start of the season last year for green Bay obviously
you know, didn't go the way that they wanted. But
Love also got hurt earlier in the season, and I
don't know if he was ever I don't want to
say fully healthy, but I don't think he was. So
if he is fully healthy, that's a game changer. And
I think Detroit, I mean, we'll see. Obviously, defensively, they're
(01:39:46):
getting you know, their stars back, which is great for them,
but still I think it may take Detroit some time
to get going again.
Speaker 2 (01:39:53):
I like green Bay in this spot, especially at home.
Speaker 5 (01:39:54):
Mike green Bay drafted the the kid from Texas who
apparently is everybody is real high on the receiver because
he's fast and he's and whatever, good be good. I look,
it's I probably would go with Green Bay. I probably
would agree they're so due to beat a good team
because last year they were like going five against the Eagles,
(01:40:16):
the Vikings and the and the Lions.
Speaker 2 (01:40:19):
So yeah, Sunday Night football opening Buffalo.
Speaker 4 (01:40:24):
Oh that home minus one and a half over the
Baltimore A great game or what I mean?
Speaker 2 (01:40:30):
That's the great first weekend. So why it's the NBC
is thrilled to have it last year? Right, I mean
if the guy catches the two.
Speaker 4 (01:40:36):
Points, Mark Andrews dropped dropped capacity and uh what do.
Speaker 2 (01:40:40):
You what do you think? Because bullying wore is your team? Yeah,
well that's my city.
Speaker 5 (01:40:44):
If you're city up there, I know, I know my
squad is whoever I bet on that way at some point,
because Buffalo and them are kind of the same team,
they can't quite get there. But I mean, at some point,
as Lamar, everybody tells me the Ravens uh Fosters as
good as anybody's.
Speaker 4 (01:41:03):
Yeah, I don't I don't know if it's as good
as the one they had two years ago, and they
clearly were the best team in football. Yeah, and they
gagged up the AFC title game at home against Kansas City.
Speaker 2 (01:41:12):
I'm not a big John Harball fan.
Speaker 4 (01:41:14):
I don't like how he coaches in big moments with you,
even though he has won a Super Bowl. It's always
helpful when you have Ray Lewis on your squad and
somebody twelve years I mean, I'm not you know he
beat his brother, Yes he did back back in the day. Uh, David,
you got a thought on this opening week Sunday night football.
Buffalo minus one and a half against the Baltimore Ribbon.
Speaker 3 (01:41:35):
I'll be honest with you, I am not as high
on Buffalo as I think both of you guys are.
Speaker 2 (01:41:38):
I know their.
Speaker 5 (01:41:39):
Schedules, He's not as high on me. Yeah, I'm just
saying their schedule is easier. Sure, sure, yeah, But for me,
I will go Buffalo in this game. I think that
at home they got an advantage. I do think Josh
Allen is a good quarterback.
Speaker 2 (01:41:51):
But something that you know is.
Speaker 3 (01:41:52):
Obviously very important to keep an eye on is last
year he really found a way to limit the interceptions
and that was not when you look at the back
of the back of the car, look at the stats,
that's not what he's done in his career.
Speaker 2 (01:42:05):
So that's one year to the rest. So we'll see
if he can keep it up this year.
Speaker 3 (01:42:08):
If he does, Buffalo is a good team and easier
schedule is big for them.
Speaker 5 (01:42:11):
Think about Lamar, Josh and Jalen last year, they all
never turned the ball, like all three of them who.
Speaker 2 (01:42:19):
Had had issues.
Speaker 5 (01:42:20):
I think I think Lamar had like four turnovers until
that playoff game where they had a couple.
Speaker 2 (01:42:25):
Terrible this game.
Speaker 5 (01:42:26):
You know what's interesting about this game too, And I
guess you could say the same thing about the Green
Bay Detroit game. This could have home field implications. Absolutely, Yeah,
that's a monster the winner, Yeah, the winner matters if
they end up with the same record. Some good games
Man final game Monday Night Football. Also in the NFC,
North Minnesota minus one and a half at home against Chicago.
Speaker 2 (01:42:50):
Are we buying the Bears hype?
Speaker 5 (01:42:52):
But I think I'm not dissold on them as some
people seem to be.
Speaker 2 (01:42:58):
Williams coach.
Speaker 5 (01:43:00):
Well, look the coach last year was harm I mean,
you know, now he's the Cowboys defensive quarterlass, which he
might be a great defensive coordinator, is a clown. I
gotta take Minnesota in that game. I'm sorry. I'm only
giving a point. I mean the coach of Minnesota. Everybody
seems to say he's one of the best coaches.
Speaker 2 (01:43:21):
And why. I mean that line should be three three
and a half, should it not. I'm a little confused
by that. Yeah, I don't.
Speaker 6 (01:43:27):
I don't know.
Speaker 4 (01:43:28):
That could be my bet of the of the maybe
this games in Chicago.
Speaker 2 (01:43:32):
It is in Chicago. That's why point.
Speaker 5 (01:43:34):
Okay, Well, my change otherwise changes it because the crowd
will be soldier field, the crowd will be nuts.
Speaker 2 (01:43:41):
I'm not sold on Caleb Williams. I'm sorry.
Speaker 5 (01:43:43):
And this coach is now coming out saying he doesn't
like the way his offenses. He ain't Detroit Man he had.
I mean in Detroit he had all the weapons Eagles have.
It was basically the same team they did. David awesome debut.
Speaker 2 (01:43:56):
Thanks, thank you so much. Go catch Man, Go catch
go Cats. So wilk who was the opener again?
Speaker 3 (01:44:03):
Cold Colgate Olgate yep, September sixth, I'll can I leave
one quick Philly slot? Yes you can, all right? Aaron
ol a big night tonight. I mean it's it's obvious,
but they really need him to pitch.
Speaker 5 (01:44:11):
Well.
Speaker 3 (01:44:11):
I know it's talking great about the Nationals earlier or
earlier in terms of their outlook in the future, but
Mike's right here. They're not a good team this season.
They can't lose a series at home.
Speaker 5 (01:44:19):
I'm big night sold tonight, Like, I mean, I just
want him to be good by mid September.
Speaker 2 (01:44:26):
Like, like, I don't know what.
Speaker 3 (01:44:28):
At some point you need to have him put together
some good starts. So I think the time starts now.
Speaker 2 (01:44:32):
But thank you guys. Yeah. Absolutely.
Speaker 4 (01:44:35):
